1665 3e Avenue, Val-d'Or, QC J9P 1V9, Canada
Straightforward hotel with modern rooms, offering free breakfast, WiFi & parking.
The hotel’s response to my original review is off the mark and doesn’t address the real issues I had during my stay. So I deleted that review because I want to now mention concerning details that I did not mention before because I felt assured that the hotel would address their inhospitable ways. Their reply to my past post indicated they wouldn’t. (I have original review and their reply saved in case someone wants it) Instead of owning up to how unprofessional the manager was, the response just seems to misunderstand or ignore what actually happened. From the moment the manager knocked on my door, her approach was unsettling. It wasn’t the polite knock you’d expect from a hotel staff member, this one felt authoritative right off the bat. It put me on edge, and I didn’t even open the door immediately because solely based on the knock, I wasn’t sure if they were friendly or not. When I did open it, the manager’s tone was immediately insistent instead of politely requesting, and instead of asking for my side of things, she immediately told me to go to her office with her. If I were managing, I’d have called the guest’s room first and kindly asked them to come to the front desk at their convenience, but that wasn’t the approach here. When she continued to act in this inhospitable manner, I asked her, “Why are you acting like this?” because I couldn’t comprehend why she would treat me in such a way. She suddenly took two steps towards me, literally crossing the doorway of the room, to come even closer to ask “why am I like this??” Her tone and body language felt way too aggressive, and I physically took a step back when she took those steps towards me. Her colleague was there too and didn’t say a word throughout the whole interaction. I made sure to look at her and point out that the manager’s behavior wasn’t right. Honestly, it felt like a public disagreement between strangers, not a professional interaction between a guest and hotel management. Before posting my initial review, I mistakenly posted it on the Rouyn Comfort Inn location. Their response was professional and showed hospitality, a stark contrast to the reply I received here. The worker even provided a contact number, and once I realized I had posted at the wrong location, I called him, explained my mistake, and apologized. The Rouyn worker actually apologized to me for the way I was treated by the Val-d’Or Comfort Inn management. He was truly professional and hospitable. Which makes the response from the hotel owner even more frustrating and frankly, baffling. They’re accusing me of telling another guest to move, which is completely untrue. My partner simply informed the guest that the parking space was taken, and there was no hostility involved. We never “demanded” anything. The parking situation itself was confusing because even the front desk wasn’t sure about the hotel’s parking policy. So how are we supposed to know what the “rules” were when the hotel didn’t even have a clear one in place? In the end, this whole experience boils down to the manager’s unprofessional and confrontational behavior. Instead of trying to handle the issue calmly, it felt like she was more interested in asserting authority. When the hotel owner responded the way they did in my past post, it just confirmed that they weren’t addressing the real problem. I stand by my original review and am disappointed and honestly concerned that the hotel refused to take responsibility for how I was treated. I’m honestly concerned they will continue treating guests this way and especially worried about Indigenous patients who may be more vulnerable.
Got a email check in for 2 pm , I arrived and they said 3 pm , also room smelled like cigarettes
The location is awesome. However, the rooms smelt like cigarettes, they're were only cleaning once in the 5 days I was there and they only give you one room key that needed to re programmed every day. Wouldn't be a bad place for a fair price but not at $220 a night.
The staff accommodated us with a ground floor room after a couple of discussions. We were originally placed on the upper floor. Room was musty and the carpet felt somewhat damp. Otherwise okay. Seemed pricey for what we got. Recommend you shop around before booking.
I'd say you get what you pay for, but at $200 a night I would have at least expected grounds that were mowed, signage not dilapidated, more than 1 key card, breakfast that was hot as described and not wrapping up at 9 am. Spend a few bucks more and stay at a nicer hotel. Or spend less and find a better place.
Rooms always smell very bad, no coffee all the time in the room. No tissues except in the wc. In two weeks stay, they did not clean the room even once. Had to ask them and they always answer short on stuff. No pen or paper to write. The hotel manger is a ****. Stuff are very rude, Eating breakfast and the kitchen lady is stearing at the guests all time. Breakfast is good there by the way, have a lot of varities.
Dirty floor in the bathroom full of short little hairs, exposed wires on the heater and the room we booked for accessibility was not available. Not pleased at all! No security. Back door unlocked. And our room key did not work. They told us to come get them when we wanted to open the door.
Checked in late, parking was stolen by some jerk. Reception had one other room with parking available, so they moved me. I had trouble with my door, but they were quick to provide a means to lock it. Very good rate, nice rooms, and great service!
France provides excellent service, I recommend it to everyone!!
We spent one night at this hotel and enjoyed it immensely. The rooms are incredibly comfortable: the mattress, the pillows, the sheets - everything was first class and more - I would like to get the same. The place was quiet. We slept very well. The welcome at reception was also very warm. We have adopted this hotel and will return. Rooms: The rooms are incredibly comfortable - thats what makes me classify it as a luxury hotel: the mattress, the pillows, the sheets - they were more than perfect - I would like to get the same ones!
Hotel lousy on all counts apart from a bit of lunch which was a bit acceptable, hard bed, pillow too soft, no cleaning done for 4 nights I had to ask for towels and toilet paper, smell of the. disgusting carpet, I had to turn on the air conditioning even though it wasnt hot....never again
Phone line is busy all the time
Honestly, its the worst place Ive been in Abitibi. First, there were 3 of us, in 3 different rooms for work. My colleague sat down in his office chair, it immediately overturned, because 2 of the 4 casters were broken. He could have gotten hurt, but a chance, more fear than harm. He asked to have it changed. They said no problem, and they never came. The 2 evenings we were there, the magnetic cards were deactivated, for the 3 rooms. In the 3 rooms only one heating system (or A/C) worked, in the other 2 rooms the system did not work at all. Impossible to air condition or heat. Again, they were notified, never came. Lunches included. Well yes you. The 2 mornings, there were no more eggs and no more breakfast potatoes. We asked for some, and they told us it would take 30 minutes to reheat some. So lets see! Put them on the stove to change them as they run out! The stoves containing the food were too small for the number of customers, we were forced to eat elsewhere. Seriously, a disaster this place. Never again for us.
Staff are rude and possibly racist, another reason why Crees shouldnt spend money in valdor.
Good luck getting someone to answer the phone when you try to call!!!! Personally, I had reservations to make for clients, and each time, although I called and called back more than 6 times, I was never able to speak to anyone. I ended up booking it myself online.
Very dirty rooms. Better sleep at a campsite or in our car.
The room was not very clean. Clumps of hair and fur in the shower, long black hairs all over the sheets. Dried fishy substance on the computer chair. Definitely not impressed or interested in going back.
Disgusting!!! Bathroom worse than dirty, a white and pink crust on the tap. The microwave unwashed. Whitish coffee maker. Dirty carpet with calcium stains. Fishy smell despite purchasing a product to change the smell. I have two weeks to spend here for work and the front desk doesnt seem to know what to do. There is dirt everywhere. The only positive thing is that the sheets are clean and no bugs are present on the mattress. A chance!!! Food and drinks: Basic lunch included.
Its right off the Hotel is up to par in renovation friendly staff
Rooms are clean employees are kind
Kind and courteous staff, cleanliness leaves something to be desired. The included lunch does the job. But the price makes no sense, $490 for 2 nights for a small, dirty room, no heating and dirty. I realize that all the hotels in Val dOr are too expensive but I stayed at the Hollyday In in Belleville which is a thousand times better and cost $125 less.
Rooms not clean at 5pm
Rooms: Vétustes... Rooms
Beautiful, clean place, welcome with a smile and delicious lunch.
Tuesday April 18, 2023, one night. Planes booked a few days in advance price with tax $208. Returned on the 18th, surprise price $278, with taxes (disappointment). Defective magnetic keys, used and noisy heating system. Personal, very good service
Good location, but we found hair in the bathroom, the carpet hadnt been vacuumed, there were suds, candy wrappers and a pill. We asked for them to come clean while we were shopping. When we returned it was better but they didnt remove the hair in the bathroom. Be careful if you lift the toilet seat, it is dirty below the seat. Really disappointing.
Price too high for the quality of the hotel and without room service included at this price.
They dont have much budget for maintenance and customer amenities. Motel in loss of investment. Owner probably in difficulty mode. Employees do their best with very, very few resources. Go elsewhere if possible.
TOTAL disappointment! We reserved a room a week ago with a BOOSTED price. They took advantage of a busy period to outbid each other and increase the price of their 2-star hotel from $180 to, hold on, $885 for a non-refundable night. It was for work and we really needed a room so we booked it. Arriving there, my workers learned that they had taken too many reservations and that they no longer had any rooms. WHAT??? They gave a little letter to my workers with a phone number for our next reservation. Its certain that Im going to forget the Confort Inn banner for a long time. Its really ridiculous to laugh at people like that. The next time Im going to pay $885 for a night it will be in New York or Paris, certainly not Val dOr...
Always clean, good lunch.
The entire hotel smells like moldy carpet. The rooms are obviously washed very quickly, really not clean. Unless your only option is a park bench, avoid
4 star if you rent your room and 1 star if you rent your room over the internet there were 5 rooms to rent on the 1st floors there were 10 auto ds parking then the mdm at the reception told me I have no rooms 1st floors pk It is reserved for the customer who does not reserve anything on the internet!!
Mediocre hotel, smell of moldy carpets both in the corridors and in the rooms. Smell of cigarettes mixed with humidity in the room. Housekeeping half done. A closed patio door with a piece of wood and a broken toilet. at $280 per night, any other hotel would have been better.
Great location. Very friendly staff. Hats off to the weekend breakfast staff. Made the breakfast a delight.
Friendly staff in the kitchen! Great breakfast! All liked it. I recommend))) Rooms : 4/5 |
They changed me $435 for 1night and the room reeked cigarette smoke and I couldn t sleep all night. I m glad I didn t have to pay the company did.
Nice place to go, and a lot of business along the way. Quit my job there due to racial discrimination from employeers and employees. So, enjoy and peace out
No Internet and heater didnt work well. Oh well
Superb room with huge shower, the staff is very courteous. I will definitely go back
Great room and great staff
Perfect, nothing to say about our rental.
Great service
Good service and good breakfast in the morning
First time in a Comfort Inn and certainly not the last! What more can I say about the professional service received from the manager Céline during my reservation by telephone as well as throughout my stay, a professional and friendly person as well as the lady who takes care of the lunches (I forget his name) and the gentleman who was at the night reception. Thank you all for the excellent service received!
Nice hotel in the Val dOr area
If I could rate it less then 1 I would. It was overpriced, old, my non smoking room smelled of smoke, the bed was small and uncomfortable (and smelled). It was a step up from a slum motel (but just), but far below what I expected from a cheep hotel, let alone a Comfort Inn. The room was not worth the $250 price tag. Breakfast was basically gone when I got there at 7:30, and the kitchen lady was more focused on stock delivery.
The last two time is stayed here the room key would not work. I had to be let into my room anytime I wanted to get back in. Avoid this hotel.
It was very great very quiet I really enjoyed my stay
Not the best Hotel, and I feel they ripped me off @ 175$ for one night with pet (+25). Sketchy place, worth 1/2 that price at best.
The woman at the front desk cant even check people in. 30 min to check in because shes confused on my last name and cant figure out the computer. Like wow how do people like that even have jobs Brain dead people cant organize a one man race to the outhouse
good customer service
Very good service and very warm welcome
Good service! The attendants are very friendly!
The staff is poorly trained.
No laundry service on site :(
Great staff, super welcoming and right in the heart of Val DOr. Steps from everything, short drive to everything else. Clean rooms and very affordable.
Good but Room had cigarette odor
The lady at the front desk was very rude and wouldnt check us in.
We had made a mistake on the reservation date. Although there was no vacancy in the city, the lady at the front desk called her boss and worked something out to get us in for the night. Fantastic Service!!!! Way to go!
Free Wifi you say. Yes, its lucky that its free given the quality. The other comments say a lot about the place, yet nothing seems to improve. I wonder if its worth talking about.
Usually, I respond to the survey online, but I did not receive one here. Disappointing hotel (I usually go to Comfort Inns for work and I would not recommend this one). Cold welcome, very noisy heating in the rooms, no recycling, no green policy (plastic in abundance), bad and industrial breakfast (you have to do it to miss a cheese omelette, no real fruit, no yogurt , etc.). My colleague found hair in her bathroom.
Via Expedia: and another $220 for the room above reception? How much is a 2 bed ground floor room? $300?
Quiet and comfortable bed
A very good place. Very polite good service. Thank you very much for the extar bed cover. Thank you sir for a peaceful weekend.
Have a very nice weekend, very good reception and service. Recommend for everyone. A1
Great service with a smile
No way to talk to the clerk without being cut off. I will choose another place to sleep next time. It was just on the phone, I guess in person.
There is a hick these more hotel worker so morning a lot of noise
Very comfortable
Affordable, good location. On our second day, the AC stopped working but management quickly moved us to another room free of charge.
Clean and nest, did the job for a place to crash while driving cross country
Hotel that is getting old and is in need of change. Smell in the room, very noisy. Otherwise, for the rest it does the job, that s all!
Comfortable.
Warranty service
Comfortable bed but not so clean!! Run away with your hair on the floor near the bathroom behind the scenes of I dont know what in the shower shower fan noisier than a coffee grinder remaining food in the freezer etc for $170 per night with supposedly hot breakfast in the morning... In short n No matter where its going to be better!!
Slightly abrupt welcome The rooms are clean Unfortunately, increasingly noisy customers and the reception do not seem interested in reacting if they are notified...
Very clean room, courteous staff
Everything is perfect
Clean and comfortable but outdated rooms (no renovations since opening), OK service no more at reception, no time to try the lunches.
I really liked my stay
Comfortable and clean
Quiet
Perfect welcome, very clean room, decent breakfast, worth a 4 star
Always a good place to stay with reasonable rates.
Very good service with a welcoming smile from the employees thank you
Love the breakfast
Nothing to say
Comfortable place for resting and relaxing
Nice place. Own.
good service and very good stay
Late lunch and rooms not made
The room didnt smell very good
The staff here is very patient, helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfy. The internet, however, was laggy and unreliable.
Carpet in room not clean
Thanks to you
Good
Very clean and upscale
I am a regular customer of the hotel, lunch is good, rooms are clean. I have no complaints at this level. Recently I had a stay, I had a room with an adjoining door leading to another room. My neighbors were people from the middle of the oldest profession in the world... the soundproofing was terrible, I could hear everything! They refused to change my room because I had unmade the bed (I had left my luggage on the bed), this is their procedure. So a little advice, when you arrive, before getting into bed, if you have an adjoining room, be sure to check that your neighbors are not too unpleasant. I will obviously return to stay at this hotel which has never disappointed me before but lets say that I will take certain precautions in the future. Very disappointed with their room change policy and very disappointed with their problem management policies. I wouldnt wish such a painful experience on anyone, I couldnt really sleep. I am also very disappointed that we accept this type of clientele, I believe that there are hotels more appropriate for this type of activity.
It does the job of sleeping through the night
Very clean. Very nice staff.
Very nice in all places and a clean room helps when you arrive tired.
Good place to relax and enjoy the good times...
Clean room
Nice beds, however watching prostitution deals going on next door in the adjacent room left me very concerned for my own health and safety
Price quality was good.
We are well received and the service is very good
Good but lack of truck parking.
Quiet well located
Clean and comfortable beds.
Nothing special, place for a night on the way. However what makes me really sad and angry, is that only disposable tableware is used. Is it still the 1980s? Have you heard anything about waste prevention, plastic polluting the oceans? Get a dishwasher for gods sake!
Super
Clean and spacious rooms. Parking lot is safe. Breakfast is good, and staff members are helpful and friendly. Price is OK
Affordable price and you sleep well, breakfast included in the room price
The most helpful hotel even if you are not a customer. Thank you for your help!!!
Super good service... Thanks to the gentlemen of the evening
good stay and good lunch
Was ok
Below choice expectations especially for the price. Bad choice of TV channel, no recovery. Fortunately, the staff is friendly and welcoming.
Very welcoming staff, attentive to their customers! I really liked my stay!!
A big scam, they give you a price on the phone and then when you leave the room it costs you twice as much as expected. During your stay, the room card no longer works. You must return to the desk to reactivate it. Lose wifi because they change it without giving the new code. No courtesy on my last day, a double bill was slipped under my room door. Never, ever will I refer this place again without mentioning the little renovations to be done since the maid made the bed but never changed the sheet. A big 0 across the board. Dont go there unless youre in a bad situation. Request a return call from the manager who never responded. Even with a memo from his employee. I have photos that I need to post. I want my call back ms. Stay at the beginning of September 1 month without return call. I find it pathetic that you dared to respond over the internet and not on the phone or in person.
Very good is prop
Bon service
Alright...
Ugh. For $140 Im convinced theres better. This hotel is still old. Carpets, old look, breakfast included but fairly flat choice and always the same. Theres better in Val dOr.
Nice rooms
Good hotel friendly service
Was a decent stay. Room was clean. Internet a little on the slow side (sub 5 mbps). Missed the intercontinental breakfast (was cleaned out by 10 am. Juice left though)
Needs more hospitality for guest
Good welcome. Own. Comfortable bed, iron & ironing board, hair dryer provided. Hot breakfast, self-service , scrambled or cooked eggs, bread, croissants & danishes; coffee and tea, juice. Cereals, pancakes or waffles, and a lunch manager on site. Reasonable price. Great chain! Thats basically my assessment.
