Since opening in 2008, Café Medina has carved out a niche as a truly exceptional breakfast, lunch and weekend-brunch destination that effortlessly blends eclectic bistro fare, connoisseur-savvy coffee and sweet nourishment via the city’s best Belgian waffles.
Pretty yummy! The first day we tried to come, the wait was going to be an hour so we came back the next day right as they opened! It was worth it to wake up early to come. Our server was absolutely lovely and we had a great start to our morning despite the heavy rain outside. I had Les Boulettes spicy Moroccan meatballs lamb meatballs with house made focaccia bread. The bread was SO good! My husband had the Fricassee which was braised short ribs. He gave them a 3.5/5 while I gave mine a 4.5/5 so we averaged it out to 4.
Overall super cute and cozy venue with delicious food and drinks. Went for breakfast. The matcha latte was beautifully made with a nice creamy flavour. The braised beef in the breakfast fell apart in your mouth. The tomato-flavour overwhelmed the dish in my opinion.
Incredible! No wonder this place had a line of 15 people out the door on a weekday. The atmosphere is comfortable and our server took time with us even though they were so busy. The raspberry caramel latte sounded like an odd combo to me, but when I tried my daughter's I was delighted at the flavor from the little red granules, and the caramel went surprisingly well together. The "Fricasée" was recommended by our server and stayed piping hot in a cast iron pan, full of deliciousness with spice and flavor, and with a generous portion of tender beef under the eggs, it was very filling. This is exactly what you're looking for when you want something fancy and delicious for a breakfast out.
I would like to introduce "Cafe Medina", one of the delicious restaurants in Vancouver. It's a restaurant that takes pride in coffee. Waiting is necessary for meals. Waffles are also so delicious. Have a delicious meal!!!
Amazing place for brunch. The waffles are their speciality, so I had one, then had to order another. The Cassoulet was delicious and my friend had the avocado toast with an egg and the granola, which were amazing as well.
Bumping breakfast spot - waited about 30 minutes for 4 on a Friday morning. We got a bunch of different skillets. The best was the assorted mushroom version, which was very rich and flavourful, but the others were a bit more muted - good ingredients, well cooked, but just lighter on seasoning than I prefer. Coffee was also a touch weak. I did enjoy the liege waffle though!
I came here with some out of town guests. I wanted to make sure we were able to get a table ASAP so I did pay for the $10/person reservation charity donation. It was pricey but I think because of this they gave us a huge table. We only had a table for 4. If we weren’t in a time crunch we will wait in line this is generally a first come first serve place. I was here a few years back and the service and food is as I remembered it. Top notch. The waffles and dip was yummy. I’m a huge fan of lavender so I did order the lavender latte along with the lavender chocolate dip with my waffle. Or order the beef sandwich. It was a tasty meal and service was prompt. We were all delighted and it’s worth the visit if you have out of town guests.
Wow, the line at Medina Cafe was long! We listed ourselves and ended up waiting for almost an hour. It was definitely worth it, but if you have hungry kids with you, I’d suggest going somewhere else or planning ahead by reserving on their website. One of the best items we tried was their Liege waffle—absolutely delicious. We also had the Wolves Breakfast and Fricassée, and everything was perfect, especially when paired with a mocha. Coffee was great. The atmosphere can be a bit noisy and busy, but if you’re looking for a great breakfast spot, this is the place to be. Just be prepared for a wait or plan ahead by making a reservation on their website because specially on the weekends, there will always be a long wait rain or shine.
Cafe Medina is a standout for brunch in Vancouver. The menu offers bold, delicious dishes alongside healthy options, all served in a stylish, inviting space. Their waffles and tagine are must-tries. Perfect for a memorable start to your day highly recommended!
Everything about this experience was truly exceptional, and I highly recommend visiting this beautiful and charming cafe for brunch. To begin, I must emphasize that the ambiance and design of the cafe were remarkably pleasant and filled with positive energy. The space not only provided a calming atmosphere but also created a thoroughly enjoyable experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the taste of everything I ordered. The only minor aspect that stood out was the slightly runny egg yolks, though this is merely a personal preference of mine, as I prefer them a bit firmer. Nonetheless, the taste was absolutely delicious. The service provided by the staff was both attentive and kind. Overall, every aspect of this experience was flawless, and I will certainly return in the future
Great place. Had two Liege waffles with the salted caramel and the white chocolate pistachio rose water topping. Both toppings are amazing. The white chocolate pistachio rose water topping is uniquely tasting and delicious. the salted caramel is also some of its kind i have had. Got the Paella and the fricassee. Both were very good too. Service was very friendly and attentive. Overall a very nice little gem tucked away in between a bunch of big buildings.
Absolutely amazing place Super tasty and great presentation Of the food The beef was tender and juicy Coffee was fresh and rich and they kept refill the coffee for me Servers super friendly and attentive Their machine set tip starting at 20% to start There s option to change but considering such great dining experience definitely worth the money We lucky there s no line up today on a weekday around 11 am
One of the best breaky/brunch places to go for- - A grey cozy warm vibe! - Sweet smiling and helpful staff - Great Food (including vegetarian options) - Amazing and tasteful COFFEE! They have the famous Revolver coffee in-house machine - The best fresh Belgian waffles of the perfect portion - great portion size (esp if you are watching your weight) - Nothing is overly sweet nor oily or deeply buttered. Well balanced flavor - one of the very few places where even the fruit bowl was super fresh, had variety and a seasoned pear with cinnamon! Overall, just go! We had to wait for 20 mins and it was still worth the wait! Vegetarian options: Fresh fruit bowl, roasted potatoes with sauce and aioli dip, avocado toast (without egg), veg salad, Belgian waffles with variety of toppings and syrups to go with, great coffee Dietary restrictions: They will customise most of the food options on the menu to your preference and restrictions! Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Great atmosphere Great food We enjoyed the avocado forsch With the real tomato sauce . Food : 5/5 |
Not my style for brunch dishes like sweet meat! But someone may enjoy it
I love this Cafe!!! Food is amazing, waffles -yummm, coffee is amazing as well. I always go there. I love their Paella, so delish! They are very busy on weekends, so plan ahead and expect waiting!!
Gorgeous food, amazing flavours. Also absolutely LOVED the coffee here (best weve tried during our time in Vancouver). Fabulous service too :)
We enjoyed a delightful breakfast of hot chocolate and fruit juice, concluding with a particularly satisfying main course; it was a memorable start to the day with my family.
Went there after seeing some nice reviews. Walked in and put our name in for 3 people and was quoted a 45 min wait. Gave my number and waited outside for a text. After 40 mins I went in to check and they had apparently lost my name and number, giving us a quote for another 25 mins to be seated. Waste of time. Not sure how they messed up, but was dissatisfied with their response and their apparent disorganized reservation system.
Love the food! But make sure you have time to wait in line. Somehow my name was erased from the system, but luckily the host was really nice and got to it right away!
Pre-planned this brunch spot prior to my trip to Vancouver and was really excited to have gotten to taste the food, matcha wasn t strong enough for my taste but the barista/server was more than happy to make it stronger for me, i ordered the fricassee and the portion was perfect for me, beef was cooked to perfection, the egg however was overcooked (i asked for over-easy but it was more medium). I recommend making a reservation because i didn t and was stuck squished at the bar lol
Best brunch ever. I see why they got them Michelin thingies. Service was slightly slow but the house was literally bursting with patrons. Very accommodating of allergies. A Vancouver must. Gotta try the liege waffles too, mind you its limited stock. Parking: Very busy, few reservations, mostly walk in and wait.
Food was fantastic as well as the coffee. I had one of the shakshuka looking dishes with lamb meatballs and added a side or merguez sausage. Thought the food was pretty authentic. One thing that threw me off was the medina bacon for obvious reasons. Medina is a historic Islamic city. So you would think it was halal or non-pork, right? Nope! Straight pork. Would give this place 4.5 if possible because of that alone, cause the idea of halal bacon sounds diabolically delicious. Other reviews say the host is racist and rude and I m not discounting that. I m a tall, melanated American chap whose ancestors hail from West Africa. I didn t notice any racism or rudeness. Dude even helped me with the menu (the bacon question) while I was waiting and even gave me a pat on way out. I d recommend this joint for sure. I d just appreciate it if they changed the name of that bacon.
We tried numerous places around VC for brunch - this place blows em away it s a cool well run cafe with awesome delicious alternative flavoured breakfast . Real Tea - perfect coffee and Belgium pancakes to die for. Def recommend the Harrisa burger Food
Very good food, I was by myself so didnt have to wait to be seated at all and got a spot by the bar. Paella was very tasty and the waffles were the perfect dessert. I wished they had pour over coffee to make it even more delightful experience.
Service and atmosphere were great. My breakfast was tasty but the eggs mentioned by the waitress come runny. When I cut into the eggs and they were med hard well thats disappointing. I cook runny eggs all the time at home and find such enjoyment cutting into them once your meal is ready so it was a let down. Also the meal was lacking in seasoning. Really I just dont think they tasted it before sending it out. Very obvious it needed some salt. It was disappointing because I could taste other yummy spices but without salt it all dies down. Maybe they were having an off day. We are all allowed one
The food here was flavorful, and the atmosphere was nice. The servers were friendly and attentive, which made for a pleasant experience. However, the portion sizes were way too small, even for someone like me who doesn t eat a lot. If you re a big eater, this probably isn t the best spot for you. Overall, great taste but disappointing portions.
The fricassée is fantastic, great coffee too. #ContestEntry
Second time visiting! Overall is good!
Amazing food!!! Highly recommend the Leige waffles!!!! The cafe can be pretty busy but the food is definitely worth the wait!
Literally sitting at the bar arms touching both sides of strangers. Squeezed to a point I couldn t finish food. Waitress never smile looks like we own them money. Not even tressed professionally either. Wearing t shirt from bed ?
Great food take in consideration a long, long wait to get there once you re in, do not miss on the waffles :)
Delicious food. Excellent service. Can be a long wait but always worth it. #ContestEntry
Was pretty good, not sure its worth the wait or prices though.
This might be one of the most overrated places in all of downtown van. As an out of town visitor, I was recommended this place quite a bit so I came in with relatively high expectations. Food 2/5 The first time I came here I ordered the Poêlée de Champignons which was small and had little to no flavor. I was extremely disappointed with this dish so I came another time and tried the Les Boulettes. Once again I was disappointed as the dish was nothing exceptional, the meatballs tasted fine but everything else about the dish was extremely bland. The only thing I actually enjoyed here was the liege style waffles. For two dishes more than $20 each though, I was not happy. Service 3/5 Service was fine but I do not appreciate the default tip being 20%. This is absolutely ridiculous, no restaurant should ever have this as the default, you are asking for a custom tip. Overall 2.5/5 I am never coming back here. There are plenty of better options in downtown van.
Very good food - we had the fricasse and the tagine. And very warm and friendly staff. The food took a bit longer than we expected to arrive but definitely did not disappoint. There is a good reason this restaurant is usually busy! The food is well worth it!
This place is a must go. The food was fantastic (I asked several other patrons, all agreed). The drinks were lovely!! I had the spicy lamb meatballs option on the breakfast menu- magnificent! Will to again before I leave Food
I was very excited to try this place as I was visiting. I went to this place and let me share my experience - totally bummer. First of all the host was very rude and she was least bothered it seemed. Even after I received a text for the table I was made to wait for 25 mins outside the restaurant. This was not it. I was told that 20-25 mins of waiting for the food is pretty normal at this place. I was convinced and the food came in next 5 mins. Later while I was eating my food - to my surprise I saw a human hair rolled in the avocado slipping out of the bread. This is very startling and not expected from a place that was told to be a fine dining by one of my acquaintances. Not done :;
I visited the restaurant yesterday and i took a friend of mine with me who was visiting the city The experience was great !!! food, drinks, details and service, Keersten was so nice and recommended us the fricassée and it was delicious!!! Great experience !
Medina is obviously delicious and excels at elevating EVERY ingredient (possibly the best potatoes I ve eaten in my life?) but I have to leave this comment as it was our first time taking our extra-rambunctious two year old son with us and Chef Chris was BEYOND wonderful. He let Luca ring the bell a hundred times, answered his endless refrain of what s that? to every visible ingredient in the kitchen, and was so lovely and warm that I felt zero need to apologize for his continued curiosity. Thanks Chris! Our service here has always been great but today it was even better than the food.
Line up for famous stores! But there happened to be a seat at the counter so I didn t have to wait for long. Lucky Delicious food and unique seasonings The last waffle seemed to have been sent to the wrong one, but the waiter discovered it on his own and sent the correct one, so I ate a lot of dipping sauces with different flavors, and each one was delicious. Highly recommended!
Perfect place for a Brunch. Emily was so nice and kind. The meals were delicious.
Visited this place as our first stop from Toronto and loved everything. The food was wonderful the staff was so friendly. The ambiance was amazing 10/10 recommend.
This is not a breakfast it s an experience! thank you for making memorable!
Tried the waffles and also salmon avocado dish, very delicious. Great environment and service!
I almost missed it the first time I came here bcs its not too obvious. But I love their brunch items! I got the waffles and theyre so nice and fluffy but also have the perfect amount of crunch. Would come again if I have some time!
Awesome, unique food. Had made reservations before hand as the lines are quite long. Enjoyed the Sauman Fume and Sandwich au porc.
Great service and very good food. Love the service by the staff.
The hostess is so rude. They literally let come in other people that arrived after us. At the first time he told us the waiting time was 1 hr but it was 2 hrs at the end. Seems like he had something against us. When we gently ask him how longer we need to wait he laugh at us and told us 30 minutes more. So bad experience. The worst customer service.
Medina Restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and amazing food, but Kristy s exceptional hospitality truly made our morning unforgettable. She brought a personal touch to our dining experience that made us feel valued. I highly recommend visiting Medina Restaurant and hope you re lucky enough to have Kristy as your host she s a gem! The flavors of the dishes are incredible, very good prices, you have to go try them.
Café Medina is a Vancouver classic for brunch! Their waffles are a must-try light, crispy, and come with unique toppings. Cozy atmosphere and great food make it worth the wait #ContestEntry Food
We enjoyed our brunch very much and the service definitely matched. We will be back.
The Fricassée was amazing! I was very full at the end of my meal.
amazing food, amazing service & amazing atmosphere! great energy spot, great music . from the hostess, manager, bartender and food runners . loved my time here. shoutout to the best bartender , Claire- such a warm vibe and very skilled @ what she does . hope to come back and visit ! thanks for playing usher for us (getting ready for the concert) - your washington dc friends unfortunately i don t have pics to share of the food because it was tooo good but the harissa and the meatballs *chefs kiss* waffles duh
Great food, not so great service. We were waiting in rain for about 1 hour (45mims is what we were told) then found out they had indoor waiting area the whole time.
Wow, great breakfast food and not the usual . Service was attentive without hovering. My only issue was the comfort factor. Too long a wait and cafeteria style seating. An old guy perspective. Worth the wait in the end. Price was reasonable for the quality.
This is our second time enjoying a breakfast at Cafe Medina, and it was absolutely fantastic. The highlight of my meal was the Le Complet and the Waffles with caramel. The caramel sauce was rich and velvety, adding a sweet, indulgent touch without being overwhelming. Not only was the flavor outstanding, but the presentation was also on point. The dish was served beautifully, making it feel like a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds. The service was warm and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to start their day with a delicious and visually stunning breakfast. Definitely a must-try!
A brunch institution. The liege waffle with milk chocolate lavender is all you need. The fricassée is also delicious. #contestentry
We came for a late breakfast and only waited around 20 minutes. I got the poêlée de champignons (mushrooms with potatoes and eggs) and added bacon on the side with some balsamic glaze on top. Also had the iced lavender latte and asked to add some salted caramel and they accommodated me with no trouble! While taking my order the waitress asked if we had allergies and I told her gluten and she made sure to switch my bread to the gf option! The food was so good and became my favorite breakfast spot while visiting. The staff from start to finish was amazing! I can t wait to come back! Dietary restrictions: Gf and dairy free options
Brunch with a twist! At this establishment, I witnessed a remarkable impromptu (job-interview-like conversation) unfolding right at the front - exclusive access for the more....hmmm...how do I put this diligently, selectively visible guests. As the visible group, I got the full immersive experience of waiting in serene silence, unacknowledged and unnoticed, while the host engaged enthusiastically with a particular applicant. The level of attention paid to certain guests and not others is, frankly, next-level. After five chilly minutes of being treated like background décor, I realized the tables must be for those who pass the vibe test, or more accurately, the look test. So I left, albeit reluctantly, since such an educational brunch is hard to find. Five stars for the sociology lesson, and not sure how to rate the food that I never got...
Five stars across the board!! Cafe Medina is the perfect downtown brunch spot! They have a great menu with tons of options for everyone. Definitely make sure to order one (or a few) of their signature waffles. Be prepared for a lineup, but its definitely worth the wait!!!
Visiting from so cal, food was good, the male host was unmistakenly rude/racist. After letting him know my name was Nick, he referred to me as Miguel. There was a clear disregard for my correction of him regarding my name which signaled racism. Visited 11/13/24 around 11:30 am. Gave 2 stars for service considering the service at the table was good.
Busy spot but worth the wait! We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for a spot for 2. The paella was very flavourful and yummy. #ContestEntry for ShopDTVan
I stopped by Cafe Medina recently, and it s a nice little spot with a rustic vibe. I only had coffee for the run, but I ll definitely come back to try their brunch next time. The coffee was great, and the place has a relaxed feel to it. #ContestEntry Service : 5/5
Perfect and consistent every time we go here. My favourite is the braised short rib with the 2 eggs and get fresh brewed coffee with the house made spike. Food
Amazing waffles! Definitely their specialty dish #ContestEntry
We had the cassoulet, avo toast and a waffle with their berry compote. Everything was so good - highly recommend.
Everything about this place is wonderful and worth the visit. It can get busy so keep an eye out on when you go.
To be honest I think this place is a little overrated and pricey. Friccasee - 7/10. The tomato is a bit sweet. The content is small for how much it costs. Liege Style Waffle - 9/10. A bit pricey for what it is. The berry compote is really good. The waffle is also very soft. Harissa burger- 6/10.
Michelin brunch, the waffles are really delicious, but the sauce has to be paid extra, the meals are good, you have to wait during meal time, but there are many seats, just wait in line, the coffee is a bit ordinary.
The absolute best brunch in Vancouver
I found this restaurant on a list of top breakfast spots in Vancouver and came in to dine solo while here for a work conference. I ordered an iced latte with salted caramel, the Saumon Fume with a Liege-style waffle with maple syrup. BEST BREAKFAST OF MY LIFE! FANTASTIC SERVICE! WARM VIBES! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Note: I did arrive on a weekday shortly after their 8am open, so I can t comment on crowds/wait times. It did seem to fill up quickly.
Great food, great atmosphere really enjoyable breakfast place.
There s a reason why this place is popular and packed. The food was an absolute delight as was the presentation. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff were amazing. Definitely recommend this place and try to reserve ahead of time as it is always busy!
Definitely worth coming here to try the waffles~ The service staff are professional and friendly!
Rudest hostess I ve met in a long time. Took about 1 minute for her to look up and acknowledge us. Afterwards she mentioned 1hr 30 min wait, we asked to sit at the bar and she relayed the same message about the wait time. We asked if we could be added to the wait list and she gave us a huge stink eye .um, we re sorry?!?! She seemed so bothered and annoyed to take our phone number .its too bad, we were really looking forward to the experience but after being treated so rudely we decided not to bother
Worse service with different race, allow random walk-in but required 2 hours waiting for reservations
One of the best brunches I ve had in a while. We were visiting from California and heard great things so we had to check it out! Delicious Bloody Mary with TEQUILA! We had the mini waffles, pork belly sandwich and short rib w/eggs. Everything was delicious. We def plan on returning! I recommend making a reservation via their donation system ($10pp), worth it to avoid the long wait and for a good cause.
Good experience Avocado Toast with Egg & a Waffle with Milk Chocolate Lavender was totally fire. A little noisy but other than that solid.
Not authentic Mediterranean or middle Eastern.
Service was great! Coffee was awful, came out cold sent it back it came out warmer but still wasn t good! Food was okay noting to brag about! It s a cute little cafe and good prices! Food : 2/5
Ultimate brunch with a Mediterranean twist. Everything tasted great. The 30 min wait was the only issue on a Tuesday.
Amazing service, ambience and the food is worth coming back for again and again. They only serve brunches and they do it all well! to start with I got the hot chocolate with white chocolate lavender - never had this before and didn t think I would enjoy it so much - I am a fan! The avo toast with their tomato salsa was delicious! Husband got the salmon toast. Everything about the plating, taste, the drizzle of oil on top, the salsa etc was perfect. The salmon dish came with a salad - had sweet pepper drops and wow that was amazing! We finished it off with waffles with mixed berry compote and the white chocolate pistachio rose water dip - LOVED IT! Our server was Cassandra and she was lovely - her recommendations for the waffles/hot chocolate hit the spot. Thank you for such a memorable brunch before flew out of Vancouver.
Wednesday morning brunch with clients. Awesome spot. nice and friendly staff, food was great. Worth a visit!! JP Arora| Realtor/Builder
Had the Fricassee and the Paella!! The Paella was over-seasoned in my humble opinion but still good. Highly recommend the Fricassee!! The Iced Matcha Lattes were unsweetened and a little bit chalky
Every single thing we ordered was amazing! Food was yummy, fresh fruits, coffee is on point and their mimosa is made from fresh pressed juice! The service is fast too! Highly recommend!
Very tasty plates and waffles Easy to wait for a table, you may need to arrive half an hour early
Great brunch spot. The waffles are a must.
Met a girl who was moving to Europe and it was her last day. I was attracted to her more than the food
Most lovely and caring staff, service on point. Breakfast was a smoked salmon sandwich with agrugola. Nice portion, good cappucchino. A bit crowded in the mornings, but a nice place to be.
We had a wonderful and very tasty breakfast at Medina! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and we were immediately greeted in a friendly manner. The service was excellent and they made time for a chat several times. Really super friendly and attentive staff, you feel completely at ease
Our party of 9 went here for Saturday lunch and we were all disappointed by the food. We had the Harissa burger, many had Les Boulettes, and the mushroom dish. They were all bland. No seasoning or saltiness. I had Les Boulettes and the best part was the focaccia of all things. The mini waffle isnt anything special for the price and the milk chocolate lavender sauce was too floral, but a good sweetness for my taste. Service and atmosphere were good. 20% minimum tip is ridiculous. Do not recommend.
Looks great, interesting flavor and seasoning, but in the end of the day, didnt wow any of us.
The ambiance is nice. However, the food is just average for me. I was looking forward to have lunch here so was a bit underwhelmed by the food selection. Still worth a visit when you re visiting downtown Vancouver and looking for a fancy place to eat brunch. The waffle is good though!
Cafe Medina was close to our hotel so went for breakfast and despite not realising its popularity, got seated immediately at the bar. Loved the food and coffee but particularly loved how the staff worked happily and seamlessly together. A great experience!
We went here twice it was so good! The food and team were great. Would recommend booking.
The restaurant was busy and crowded. We went there at noon on a Tuesday and queued for half an hour. However, the waiter was very nice and the order taker was also very patient. Highly recommended. The lavender dipping sauce in the waffles was very delicious, and the lavender cocktail was also delicious. Two people ordered a set meal, two waffles, and two cocktails and they still havent finished the meal. The portion is quite large.
Awesome food and warm welcoming place ,Larry is definitely A+
The food here is absolutely delicious, everything was tasty. The atmosphere is the restaurant is very pleasant and staff are friendly. There may be a slight wait time.
Good healthy food but so overpriced omg. The vibe is really good and I think thats what is creating the demand. Had to wait close to an hour to get a table which I dont think is worth it. Vegan and vegetarian options are a handful and the taste was above average. Personally I would say the place is a little overrated.
Love the hustle and bustle of this spot. Attentive service, really enjoyed the paella. Palate pleasing, and pleasing palette, with teal stoneware and violet cocktail. On my to return list.
Best brunch!
Loved everything, but the waffles in particular were incredible
Great option for breakfast. Healthy options! Great service.
The food is good but kind of average. Good coffee and ambience. I might have given a higher rating if the line wasn´t soooo long.
Wolfs breakfast is excellent
10/18/24 sublime
I just gave it 3 for the food. Not for my taste! The only thing I liked was the waffle, and aide potatoes! The service was great.
I visited this cafe on Sunday. I had to wait more than 40 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. Friendly employees, fast service and delicious food. The portions are not small and very tasty. I recommend it!!
Had brunch here yesterday and it was amazing! The waffles were incredible crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and perfectly sweet. Great atmosphere and friendly staff too. Highly recommend this spot for brunch!
Great breakfast spot, but make sure to make a reservation. We came at 10am on a Tuesday and it was packed. Liege waffles are amazing, especially with yoghurt and passion fruit creme- it was heavenly!! Food
Cafe Medina exceeded our expectations! Despite the long queue, we were warmly greeted and seated. The menu offered a vast array of options, making it hard to choose just one dish. My husbands Wolves Breakfast and my Fricassée Champignon were absolute treats! The food was exceptional, and the service was top-notch. Our server was warm, friendly, and relaxed, giving us ample time to enjoy our meal and the vibrant atmosphere. The bustling ambiance only added to the experience, making it feel like a special treat. We didnt feel rushed, and the staff took their time to ensure everything was perfect. Overall, Cafe Medina is a must-visit for breakfast in Vancouver. The food, service, and atmosphere make it well worth the wait. We highly recommend it!
Amazing food, one of the best breakfast places. There is a long waiting queue so be there earlier than opening hour if you want to have a table
i fear this place is insanely overhyped. the food was just okay, definitely something i could make at home for less money.
I had high hopes for Cafe Medina when we went this past weekend ending a girls staycation downtown but unfortunately, I was highly underwhelmed and one experience is good enough for me. We went on a Sunday around 12.30pm and told it would be about an hour to an hour fifteen wait, which we were reluctantly fine with even though we were hungry. We had to go to the mall anyway so off we went to a couple of stores. We came back and we finally did get seated at the bar. The feel and vibe of the place makes you want to come inside and eat but I wish I could say the food matched the ambience. I ordered a Lavender Latte and my girlfriend ordered a tea which arrived in cool tea press. Unfortunately there was some back and forth about the type of milk they had as I wanted a skinny latte and when I did get it it was cold and when I said something they said they couldnt heat it up as there was no microwave and because I had already drunk from the cup, they couldnt use the machine. Instead they said they would take it off our bill. Sooo, I drank a cold latte. We ordered the Fricassee and 2 waffles along with maple syrup and creme de fruit passion. Now I give the waffles 5 Stars. They were lovely and fluffy and I would definitely order them for takeout. What I wasnt happy with is the fact you have to pay extra for the maple syrup! The other sides I can understand but truly you think the waffles would come with maple syrup without any additional cost. When the Fricasse arrived, we did order the eggs over medium but they came over-well and honestly a bit rubbery. The short ribs seemed a little overdone. It tasted okay. We werent wowed even by the braising sauce and wouldnt order it again. The service was pretty good overall. We did inquire about their Coffee Spikes and were intrigued and asked if we could buy one to go and they said they couldnt do that. We werent interested in having it ourselves, but my girlfriends husband enjoys bourbon ad we thought we could buy it for him. Instead we were left disappointed as they didnt really want to make the effort of giving us one in any packaged form. Anyways, We wouldnt really come back again and not sure its worth the long wait to eat here and I wonder why it was even mentioned as a Michelin hopeful. There are so many dining options to choose from. Grab a waffle to go and eat elsewhere.
30 minute wait for seating, mostly worth it. Latte was good and so were the waffles. Cappuccino and the salmon avocado toast was mid.
it plays loud music. The minimum tip is 20%. food is just so so and not enough for me with total price $70. I have to wait 20min before get in and wait another 30 mins for my order. No idea why there are so many people. I will never be there anymore. One star is even overrated.
Good food good service
Their Liège Style waffles are incredibly delicious. I ll be dreaming of them for the next several weeks. The other food was great, but the waffles were the shows star. They have a few brunch happy hour drink items daily from 9 to 11 AM. The service was terrific. Everyone was so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. What stood out was how they cared for a local senior gentleman living nearby with some accessibility needs. He sat on the patio, and many staff members came and said hi to him. Then, a team member took the time to help him with the door into his building.
Not a kid friendly place . They don t have anything for kids other than a tiny waffle. Do not go there if you are looking for brunch with kids. For adults too the food is not worth the wait.we waited 45 minutes to get to a menu which had nothing for kids.
Worth the long wait. Delicious! Can I swim in the white chocolate/pistachio sauce I ordered with my waffle?!
Please visit this place you will not regret. We loved the food the service the place , if you are placed on a waiting list is worth the waiting. The coffee was excellent the fresh orange juice excellent, then yes we will definitely return to this place.
Very busy, make sure to go early or be prepared to wait
We tried to get brunch on a Sunday morning and had to wait 30-40 mins for a table. You can t reserve a table unless you donate $10 pp to charity so be prepared to queue for a while. The food was really good though and you got a big portion for a not so terrible price.
I often have brunch here the dish with champions is very good and you have to try the waffles
We came to this cafe and after two days of lining up, we finally were able to get a seat on the second day of lining up only to have the host tell us there are seats at the bar and to follow him. We told him we wanted to sit on a table and we saw an empty table out on the patio, so we asked if we could be seated there. He left and came back and said No, I m gonna actually hold off this table for the family behind you because they have a kid . In a very rude attitude and without any regard for the fact that we waited and it s a first come first serve basis. If priority is given to different people then why are we lining up? While I do respect there is a family behind us, it shouldn t mean that he gets to pick and choose who he seats and where because the policy is clearly seating based on availability. And as a paying customer I should have the freedom to choose where I want to sit he kept pushing the bar option on us or that we would have to wait 45 minutes for a table to open while the family behind us gets to sit right away. However, the way he handled the situation and with no respect or even a sorry was what really upset us. Today is our last day in Vancouver and this is what we will remember. I hope the manager or owner trains this host better on how to treat and handle guests.
no idea how this is a Michelin recommended restaurant. all the food is salty and service is poor except for the guy at the reception who was very kind. the minimum tip option is 20%, which I thought was ridiculous. in all honesty, the appropriate tip for this type of service is 10-15%.
This place is a gem ! The food is fantastic and the service is top notch ! 5 stars all around
I had it at 5 stars. Food is still good. The restaurant needs a new host though. Can share details in private message as I d rather not do that in public.
Late to drop a review, visited last month, but wanted to highlight yet to find a place with a better mini waffle and the indulgent selection of dipping sauces! Friendly staff! Long wait time usually, so factor that in during your plans!
Michelin recommended brunch, and we were lucky enough to go in without queuing. There were other places on site and they were kind enough to change seats for us. Soft yet chewy waffles , an amazing wolf meal.
Service was good but it s a crowded little place and did not feel relaxing or comfortable as they crowd in as many tables as possible. Food was not vibe and just not overly great. Food
Great food. Great service. Worth the wait. Their waffles are really good.
We had breakfast here today, and everything was perfect. The food was full of flavor and spices, and the staff were very attentive. We will definitely come back.
We waited 2 hours to get a table on a Sunday. The place was packed and had a long waiting. In my opinion it s a bit overhyped. Food was ok but nothing worth our wait. Service and ambience were great.
Had to wait 25 minutes for a table. It was worth the wait as both the coffee and food were delicious. Great atmosphere. Food : 4/5
Great food!
Great menu with many options for brunch. Line for entry was long, but this is normal for anywhere worthwhile. We saw a certain celebrity at this restaurant, which was a cherry on top for our experience. Food was delicious. I recommend asking to be seated at the bar if you want to be seated faster.
We stopped in for brunch on a busy weekday, and were able to get seated at the bar without a wait. We each got lattes and a mini waffle, accompanied by a main, and were so happy with everything. The bar staff were very friendly and we got our food and drinks very quickly. It was a fairly quick, but very pleasant, visit to Cafe Medina.
Its close to the hotel, so I went at opening time, wrote down my name, and stayed at the hotel before leaving. There wasnt much to wait so I went. Its a good photo, but its Dottegi Market itself. As for waffles, selling Belgian waffles in Korea is cheaper and better. Its not worth investing 5,000 won including tip for a piece of this... Paella, as the name suggests, is a sausage pasta made with rice-shaped pasta. Its a huge amount of money... Lamb meatballs are much more worth eating. The amount of tea is only a small amount.. Its a hassle to refill water.. I heard a lot of people recommend the salted caramel latte, so I ordered it and it was too small.. I lived in Canada until 2012 and visited every year until 2015. I went to a lot of brunch places, but it was the saltiest and most expensive thing Ive ever eaten. If it were me, I wouldn t bother waiting to eat it. Looking at the restaurant sign, it looks like Ive been there before, but I dont think it tasted like this...
Really good eats at a fair price. It s a nice atmosphere to boot.
Prepare for a lot of wait. I had the Wolves breakfast and according to their instagram, it s for 2 people. I dunno. Seems like they lowered the portion sizes. The steak looked like it was meant to be twice as big but they cut it in half. Underwhelming to be honest.
Delicious food and great service. My friend & I stayed a bit longer but the staff were so patient with us! As for the reservation system - Although it s for charity, to pay for a reservation per person that doesn t count towards the food is off putting. Id rather choose the charities I would donate to and get the tax credit right away. If we come back, we won t go through the reservation system again.
One of the best brunches I ve had!
prob one of the best brunch places I ve ever been to here in Van! The vibes were immaculate food was amazing and our server was so sweet! She looked like Emma stones it was crazy. Definitely coming back
Excellent food and service. Great for brunch.
It was worth the wait, the food was incredibly tasty!
It is my fav breakfast place but you gotta make your reservation to avoid long lines The food quality is AMAZING and Staff is soo sweet I always enjoyed my ordered here They are pretty consistent with their quality and prices are very reasonable for what you are getting Highly recommend this place Especially for authentic food lovers
We ordered Harissa Burger and Le complet, Le complet was perfect, properly cooked steak and roasted red peppers focaccia was phenomenal. On the other hand Harissa Burger was bland, something was missing, it was like fried eggs on crispy pita bread with tomato sauce with a hint of ground beef! Nothing like A ! Finally, the side dish of flat bread was good and mascarpone with honey+black pepper was an exciting combination! Recommended
I usually like milk tea, so I drink 2 cups a day, but it was the best London Fog I had in Vancouver :-) I also had waffles, and the raspberry caramel sauce was delicious!!
Was good but nothing special, not worth the wait. Think there are several other places with higher or equal quality brunch without the excessive wait.
The food is very good, its a shame about the delay in serving and the waiting list for almost an hour to get in.
Excellent place
My favourite brunch spot in all of vancouver. Beware of a long wait if you dont go early! The waffles are the best I had in my life (and Ive tried a bunch in Belgium)
An easy review when the coffee is excellent, breakfast delicious and the waffles the best! Be prepared for a short wait during busy times. They dont take bookings Vegetarian options: Good options
Always busy, for good reason. Book ahead or try your luck for a seat at the bar. Personable service and delicious meals. Don t forget a liege waffle with your brunch!
Let me tell you this is THEE best breakfast restaurant I have been to in Canada and I have been to many. The service and ambience are amazing as well. I came with my family, we had different dishes and all tasted amazing. We had to come back here a second time before we left vancouver. You need to go early because it gets busy but good thing is you are on a waitlist that doesnt go more than an hour. Its all worth the wait. If i plan to visit vancouver anytime soon it would solely be because i want to eat at this restaurant again. Amazing amazing amazing
Medina Café is a very popular breakfast café in Vancouver. The prices are a bit high, but its worth having breakfast there. I had a very tasty granola with fruit and yogurt, my husband had a focaccia with egg and salad. The coffee is very tasty. Service extremely friendly!
Super
Love this place
Amazing breakfast fare for a good price in a charming atmosphere. Also, best waffles Ive ever had in my entire life. Enough said.
Good food. Maybe a little above the average. Service was okay. I didnt see anything that justifies all the hype about this place tho. There are many others just as good in Vancouver. I would go again if theres no line, but not worth if you have to way more than a few minutes for a table.
Incredible waffles
I don t have a sweet tooth but the waffles here are amazing. Perfectly fluffy and slightly sweetened, we went back for seconds even before we were done with the first round.
Friendly service and awesome brunch!
This was a highly recommend spot so I wanted to swing by. Usually need a reservation but I walked in and quickly got a seat by the bar. The waffle with white chocolate pistachio rose water topping was really good. Main was the Fricassee was ok. It was good but not so memorable.the staff was really attentive, and the restaurant is bustling!
The waffles were delicious and the avocado sandwich was more ordinary than I expected. There will be a bit of a wait if you dont make a reservation, and the coffee isnt very good, but its pretty good so its worth a visit at least once.
Firstly this sucks to write, I first visited cafe medina in November 2018 when first moved to Vancouver and had an awesome experience. Since then I ve recommended this spot to several people and visited around once a year since then. This most recent experience however was so poor I feel it is important to share. My partner and I arrived around noon. We were greeted by an employee at the front of house who informed us it would be around a 35-45 minute wait. Although there appeared to be several open tables we deemed it reasonable and waited outside. Over this time while we waited we saw countless people appear to go into the restaurant and get immediate seated. We had assumed that they had all already joined the waitlist and were returning during their window this was until a two person party approached us to ask if we were in line. We replied no you have to go in to join the waitlist only to see them enter and get seated immediately. We continued to wait for our seats, where most concerningly we noticed a trend where certain ethnicities were seated immediately when others would be told we will text you in 35-45 mins. When I went in to complain I had conveniently timed it perfectly as our table was now ready. Later on I asked a table next to us who had been let in 15 mins earlier whether they had been put on the waitlist or not; which they hadn t. I should note I am unsure whether the profiling of customers is the under direction of the restaurant or just the actions of the employee who was working at the front of house. I think I overheard his name was James however that may not be accurate he was a taller guy with a receeding hairline. Once we were sat we ordered coffees. Both mine and my partners drinks were enjoyable. Our waiter was nice enough. We ordered food which took around 25 minutes to arrive which felt long for some advacado toast and some waffles. My partners food was also served several minutes before mine leaving us unable to eat at the same time. When my waffles did arrive I was shocked to immediately notice a hair underneath one of my waffles. Due to its positioning there is no possibility that it belonged to myself or my partner (see photo). I noticed it as soon as my plate was placed but my waiter had already left so I had to signal to another waiter to have them exchanged. When I did finally get to eat the waffles they were very tasty but by this point the visit had been wholly unenjoyable and I was ready to eat as quick as possible and leave. My partners advacado toast was very tough to cut leaving a mark on her finger from the knife as she had to press so hard (see photo). Her toast did taste okay as she put it. The next table over who had ordered the same thing described theirs as bland. Overall I left this most recent visit sad. My perspective on what had been one of my favourite brunch cafes in the city has totally changed. Despite finding hair in my food none of our meal was comped, which I didn t really care about but maybe speaks to how little customer experience matters at Medina Cafe. Do not recommend. :(
Delicious weekday brunch. Busy with people waiting for tables but we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Fast service, never hurried. Food was prepared to perfection and so tasty. Recommend!
TLDR; lovely spot for a casual brunch We came in on a weekend at around 9:30 and had to put our names on a waitlist. Thankfully, we did get a table much sooner than the 20 minutes they promised. Between the two of us we ordered a cappuccino, an iced mocha, avocado toast with egg, leige waffles with berry compote and dark chocolate, and a paella. The iced mocha and the waffle with berry compote were the star of this meal. The paella was pretty good too. The avocado toast is just ok. Service is friendly and fairly quick too. Vegetarian options: Menu says that most items can be made vegetarian. Parking: Street Parking is quite expensive around the area.
Delicious food. Nice variety, with a Middle Eastern - Mediterranean twist and Belgian waffles. We went when it said less busy than usual and it was still a 40 minute wait for a table. Luckily you can put your name down, give your phone number, and go sit across the street on the corner in the public atrium to wait.
Great place for brunch when you have a moment! Vegetarian options: Various options available Food : 5/5 |
This breakfast/Brunch Cafe sits in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. Walking in the door of this trendy place, you notice the Waffles right away. They serve these ala carte and this reviewer would recommend saving room to have at least one. There is a full bar with specialty drinks and sitting at the bar as a single patron was just as enjoyable with personable barristers. This is one of the best breakfast places I have been to so far. Go and dont miss out.
Best Coffee ever! The avo on toast is to die for.
Great food and great service
I came alone at 12:30 on a weekday and was seated right away at the bar without waiting. I ordered London Fog Tea, Paella, waffles + maple syrup. Although the dish was a bit salty, the portion was generous and the overall taste and balance was good. The waffle wasnt crispy, but it went well with the syrup, and the tea was moderately sweet and not too hot, but at the right temperature to drink. I was worried that the bar staff would talk to me because my English was poor, but I was thankful that they only asked me what the food was like and what the tea was like. I want to come again next time
Came here for breakfast on a Tuesday. It was very busy, but we left our name, and it was only a 15 min wait. The service was very friendly, attentive and quick. The food was delicious. The waffles were great, but the toppings were even better. I recommend the white chocolate pistachio. Also had the hot chocolate in the sand flavour. Would go back for just those alone.
We waited for about 90 minutes on a Sunday morning at 10:30am, so it turned out to be a lunch outing rather than brunch. Food was good, not spectacular. I set the bar high for the waffles, but they fell short. The five stars go to our amazing waitress, who was helpful and really friendly. I probably won t come back because that wait was way too long for the level of food we received.
very slow waiting is too long
Nice cafe with super tasty coffee and good food (I had the granola). I would go there again and again.
Fabulous food, you feel like you are eating at home. Super friendly staff Food
Loved the brunch here. Came in at the right time so no long wait!
- Wait time: We came on a Sunday morning and had to wait almost 2 hours to be seated. We came for a late breakfast but it turned out to be a lunch for us. - Food is good. Not amazing for the wait, but it was pretty good. I would not wait that long next time for sure. - Not much kid options - kid did not like their waffles, and we thought they were not great as well.
Betti was amazingly sweet and looked after me incredibly well. Both the lavender latte and pork belly were phenomenal! Thank you so much Betti!
Tagine: 4/5 Pearl Couscous: 4.5/5 The Complete: 4/5 Pan-fried Mushrooms: 4.5/5 long wait, but good service
Popular busy place for breakfast. Very nice menu with a French and Arabic/Maroccan touch.
Food tastes authentic, if you like French cuisine you should stop by! Everything is seasoned and flavored well. It is worth the wait food does not take long to come out.
