Vietnamese-Cambodian institution draws fans with specialties including chicken wings & butter beef.
Other than fried chicken, I was pretty disappointed about the marinated beef actually :( Probably used to Italian/Spanish raw tartar beef style more, I think this dish is a bit too sour & salty :( Soup was okay, didn’t really like it that much My favourite is the deep fried chicken & coffee Saw online recommendation, maybe next time I should try couple items that others like 1. Garlic Squid 🦑 (deep fried) 2. Oyster 🦪 pancake 3. Fries mussels (clamps)
We were shopping for Chinese greens at the grocery stores across the street and next door and we noticed that there was no lineup for this restaurant (which is very rare) so we decided to shop later and grasp our rare opportunity to enjoy a meal here without having to wait. The last time we ate here was about 20 years ago and we were curious about how the experience would be compared to the last time. We were asked if we wanted our own table or if we were ok with sharing one. We were seated at a very large round table with 3 young, courteous East Indian collage students who were sharing a multi dish meal. The service was very prompt and friendly. My wife had the shrimp dumpling noodle soup and I had their version of hot and sour chicken soup. My soup came in a metal bowl and I was warned that it was very hot. Good idea because it kept the soup warm until I finished it. Their version is a more liquidy broth as opposed to the traditional thicker broth but it was very tasty. There were pieces of pineapple and lots of chicken and other treats in it. Complementary tea was served as well. An older Chinese couple joined our table and I think they were regulars because they knew exactly what they wanted and had quite an array of different side dishes that they added to their noodle soup. We were there from around 2 to 3:30 pm and if you want to avoid the lineup this would be the best time to arrive. Enjoy !
There is usually a line so prepare to wait. Listen to the reviews. We got the butter beef, chicken wings and the squid. If I was on death row and they ask what I want for my last meal I would want this butter beef included. The perfect dish with rich flavours it all just melts in your mouth. The wings did not disappoint either. The food came quick and the service was great. Can’t wait to come back here
Came here at around 2:30 and we had to wait only 15/20 minutes. Parking was a bit hard to find but we managed to park on another street. The food arrived pretty quickly. Starting with the chicken wings(crack wings) I’m not sure what the seasoning was but must have been msg/fish sauce made it unbelievably good. Ate two dozen of them. Next the jackfruit beverage also had a unique flavor and I’ve been unable to get jackfruit anywhere in the city. The beef luc lac is good but nothing too spectacular. I’ve never had this dish before but it kind of reminded me of beef and rice dishes from east Asia. The butter beef 100% recommend. One of the best dishes there. Also recommend #9 (forgot the name) but the sauce reminded me of some sort of fermented soybean paste mixed with soy and sugar. Very flavourful. Recommend everything but go for the wings — better than any you can get at wing restaurants, because of the seasoning.
Heard so much about this place and finally had to give it a try. Ordered the fried chicken wings for takeout and oh my goodness, it was incredible. It’s almost been a week and I’m still thinking about those chicken wings. Garlicky, savoury, crisp in a light way. Fried chicken tends to be very heavy usually but this one was almost refreshing. If you haven’t, you’ve got to try this Vancouver classic. I called ahead about 15 mins and they had my order ready when I got there at closing time. I want to try eating in one day but…They still had a line out the door around 7.45pm 😳
The butter beef carpaccio is amazing! Eat up all that sauce! The wings and prawns are good too. I didn’t love the beef dish we had - it was okay. Service was quick and attentive. Old school space and feels like you’re in a traditional restaurant. Will return to try more of their food.
This place was quite lively and we had to even line up to get in even before opening time for lunch. The food was quite good, the black pepper squid was excellent and the chicken wings were perfectly deep fried. The marinated beef had a relatively unique flavor to me and was quite refreshing. Unfortunately the durian moo shake wasn’t for me - mostly because i was unaccustomed to the taste. The coconut seafood curry was so-so. Overall the food was very solid and inexpensive and the service was good as well.
We were told about this much hyped Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Chinatown by our friend, none of us had ever been so we were pretty excited to go for lunch. Already very busy at noon on a Monday the wait time was 1 hr for a table. They take a cell # and text when one is available. Having already made our selections from the take-out menu, we ordered as soon as seated. The speed of the food arriving to the table more than makes up for the wait time. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious, living up to the hype. Of course we ordered the chicken wings, that if you walk by the tables almost everyone orders and even though I’m not a fan of anything raw, the Marinated Butter Beef was excellent and tasty. Highly recommend these items. Service is excellent. Credit cards accepted. Metered street parking.
Although I enjoyed my experience, I feel like the restaurant is not as good as the hype (or Michelin guide) would suggest. The good: Large portions, fast service, and good food. You get a lot for what you pay for and the flavours are rich and varied. Popular items include their wings, butter beef, and luc lac, but I have a soft spot for their Trieu Chau Fried Rice. The bad: Very few vegetarian options. Some of the food can be quite heavy and greasy, so order accordingly. The atmosphere is not particularly fancy, but they do have large Lazy Susans to make family style sharing easier. The tea they provide is also quite nice! If you really like meat dishes then this place is for you, but it is not for people who are picky. Vegetarian options: Very few vegetarian options. Most dishes contain meat.
Amazing experience at this Cambodian restaurant! Although we had to wait for 30 minutes, it was worth it. We tried their famous fried chicken, and it was absolutely delicious crispy and full of flavour. We also ordered the dry noodles, beef rice with egg, and fried lotus root. Every dish was packed with authentic flavours and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving a taste of Cambodia!
Garlic chicken is really delicious. I will visit again!!!
Good things come to those who wait. If you can wait for a table, the food is worth the time waiting. The chicken wings are the best but I also love their rice dishes.
Very authentic experience with super tasty food Kid-friendliness: We had a baby with us, and mamaged to squeeze space for a baby stroller Food : 5/5 |
Had a great experience, first time and all is as expected for a Michelin recommended spot.
Probably one of the best restaurants in Vancouver. Just go eat it.
I love this place. We always try to make it once when we visit Vancouver. This might actually be my favorite restaurant in Vancouver at the moment. I enjoyed their butter beef (raw marinated beef), string beans, chicken wings, salt and pepper squid is also good, everything is pretty much good here. Food usually comes reasonably quick. This place is packed, so come early a d put your name down. They do not accept reservations unless you are a group larger than 6 people. Parking sucks in this area. You need to plan for this and be ready to park farther and walk to this place! But its all worth it in my opinion. Vegetarian options: They have plenty of dishes where vegetarians can eat it!
This is ultimately my favorite restaurant in the city of Vancouver, and yes, it is SO busy. Be prepared for a long wait. Parking can be a pain, but you can always park a couple blocks away and just do the short walk. On the weekends, the shortest time Ive waited was about 30mins (possible if you arrive between 3:00-4:00 PM) but otherwise, its been more like 45mins - 1.5 hours wait. Once you are seated though, you can order quickly, and the food will also come out quick. Ive been eating here for over 15 years and the butter beef and chicken wings remain at the top of my list of must eats. Just writing this review makes me wish I was at the restaurant right now.
The food is certainly good, but it is not Cambodian food. They dont have any traditional Khmer dishes on their menu, and they dont even use ingredients central to Khmer cooking, such as Kroeung and Prahok. Prahok if you are unaware is often referred to as Cambodian cheese and is essentially fermented fish. I asked the staff about these ingredients and they were clueless of what Khmer food is. I do not think there is a Cambodian restaurant in Vancouver unfortunately. If you want Cambodian food you have to make it yourself, or know someone who is Cambodian. That said the food was still good. It is a very busy restaurant though and is VERY loud. Could barely hear my friends talking and had to do a lot of yelling. So the atmosphere was not for me. A shame I could not introduce them to Cambodian food here. Good thing I can cook.
Very good food.. had to try their famous fried chicken wings , which was excellent. Service was on point.
I went in with the expectation that I wouldnt see any bad reviews. Then, the taste felt similar to that of an ordinary Vietnamese restaurant... I thought the taste was pretty normal and I was very enthusiastic about the food, but this time it was really hurt. - Fried oyster cakes are quite thin and crispy - Marinated raw beef. Some of the beef is chewy and chewy, and the seasoning is not amazing. As the most popular dish, it has no success. - Sugar cane shrimp. I m uneducated. I really didn t know it was shrimp balls. The taste is just average. - Beef rice so-so
Phenomenal service
Get reservations whenever possible... Always a treat when I get to come to this favourite place for their fried chicken wings and their butter beef Consistently good food and service that has been serving Vancouverites and Vistors for many years and many more years to come Parking: Despite the Taylor Swifts Eras Tour concert night, and a growing line up of customers outside Phnom Penh restaurant, street parking was still available a block or two away from the location.
Nestled on a street in Chinatown is some of the best food! We ordered the chicken wings, beef luc lac and marinated butter beef. The chicken wings came with a lemon-y sauce, the beef luc lac came with fish sauce, and the marinated butter beef already had sauce on it. All of the three dishes were AMAZING and so flavourful! We arrived at 10:45am and there was already a small line outside. The inside has plenty of seating so if you arrive before opening you should be able to get a table. Once inside and seated, the service was incredibly quick. We were able to order as soon as we were ready and the food was brought out a couple minutes after we ordered (and this was with a fully packed restaurant). Our waiter was on the younger side, super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and how to elevate certain dishes (adding fish sauce to the beef luc lac). Overall, loved the entire experience and can t wait to return to try more items!!! Dietary restrictions: Items that are gluten free are listed as gf on their menu
The food and service here was lovely! I especially enjoyed the Lotus Seed Tapioca dessert - it was like a warm sweet porridge with lotus seeds and little tapioca balls, perfect for a chilly day. :) Vegetarian options: I didnt see vegetarian protein or entree options on the menu, but I also didnt ask - they might have had them. There were pea tips (greens that looked kind of like spinach) on the menu, and they were tasty (not sure if they were cooked in any meat broth, but they seemed vegetarian).
It was so lucky that we went there at 6:25 and only waited about one hour on Sunday! Always ordered dry noodles, fried rice and chicken wings!! It s really delicious!
Local favourite. Great tasting food in a casual dining environment. Location is in the heart of Chinatown.
We were there around 5 pm and there were 3 big tables available and we are used to sharing, because its always busy, but we were told that we only had an hour, so we opted to wait for a side table of 4 instead. 2 tables were going to be available, so I ask the man if we could have the table furthest from the door, he did not bother to reply. The food is getting to be very average, as they dont take the same care in preparation or presentation. It seems like since they received their Michelin rating, they no longer care about people waiting.
Really great food, worth it. We had: 1.Fried Chicken Wings; 2.Butter Beef; 3.Luc Beef. All of the dishes were delicious as well as the Vietnamese Jasmine tea.
Just go! Beef Carpaccio & Fried Chicken Wings,
Server didnt provide acceptable service and passive aggressively asked for the tip. LOL
I m a foodie and have tried over 300 Michelin 1-3 star restaurants and Bib Gourmand spots across more than 30 countries. I fully agree with Phnom Penh s high reputation, worth enduring garlic odor for two days after having their garlic chicken XD Haha~ So worthy!!! Butter beef is also one of my favorites.
Proper good food. Quick service. Recommend getting there before it opens. The long gets long during busy times. Butter beef and chicken wings are always a must. Almost everyone orders it.
Food was great and tasty. I would go back and try other options.
Eating here was an absolute triumph. The food was hearty and fulfilling. To put the cherry on top, when we asked the server about a missed order, he handled it perfectly. Excellent service with great food makes this place one of the best restaurants in Vancouver.
Food is BOMB! We got the #9 noodles, shrimp fried rice and small (7pc) wings. Couldnt stop eating! The pho was incredible with meat melting in mouth. Broth was phenomenal! Food
Food just so so Service is good staffs are friendly Worth the wait? No! Food : 2/5
All my friends from Vancouver recommended this spot and it didn t disappoint. Hard to get a seat but it s a testament to how good the food being served here is. A must visit!
Phnom Penh seriously has the best chicken wings in Vancouver crispy, flavorful, and absolutely addictive. The food is always great, and the service is fast and efficient. It does get pretty crowded on weekends, so I d recommend visiting on a weekday or during off-peak hours for a more relaxed experience. Overall, totally worth the visit!
Great food, must eat rare beef and fried chicken wings, viet coffee.
Great
Internet was right... The chicken wings are a must try! We went there about 10 min before opening, there was a line up but not too bad. We were able to get a table right away and the service is SUPER efficient so as long as you order quickly, even when the restaurant just got full with 1st customers, we got our food after a short wait only. The beef rice noodle soup (pho) is just ok. I liked the banh xeo, very generous with the fillings (shrimps, green/yellow beans, bean sprouts). Almost every table is ordering the chicken wings hihi! Its a nice place to order different plates and share with friends and family to try more flavors!
The wait to get seated was at least 30 minutes. All the dishes we ordered had a lot of sugar in them except for the beef luc. If you don t mind your food tasting sugary, then you ll enjoy your food.
As a first timer my friend and I went with some of the highly rated items being the Beef Luc, Wings, Squid + some Spring Rolls. Delivery or not the food lacked flavour. We were both expecting so much more from this highly anticipated spot but we re happy we didn t wait in line for hours to be disappointed. Needless to say its very overrated & pricey.
Worth the wait
Their chicken is must try! If more garlic sauce on top, would be much better!
The food is amazing. And so reasonably priced.
Everyone have to try!!! Very delicious food with big portions. Everything I ordered tasted great! It makes a lot sense that there was a long line and we had to do take out. Definitely will order again.
Warning About Food & Service Issues 1. MSG Content & Pricing: - The signature chicken wings are heavily seasoned with MSG. - Not recommended for those with MSG sensitivity. - Small portion size for $17 is overpriced. - Parents: Be aware of high MSG content if ordering for children. 2. Billing Concerns: - Experienced calculation errors with the bill - Original order: $34 - Tip added: $5 - Bill showed $50 instead of $39 - Strongly recommend checking all charges carefully. 3. Service Quality: - Inattentive staff - Poor customer service - Lack of responsiveness to customers
So. Damn. Good. And yes, the chicken wings ARE WORTH IT. Go ahead of time and prepare for a bit of a wait. Everything was delish.
Worth the wait ! Phnom Penh was PHENO-MENAL. Chinatown, Vancouver. Chicken wings (Highly recommended) Chives Pancakes, Garlic Prawns, Combo order with Beef, spring rolls, Prawn ball and noodles. Vietnamese coffee There was a 30min wait, order came out fast, staff was attentive and cleared out the table between plates. Definitely going back for the Beef Luc and Pho.
Went a bit after 12 noon. Quick service and tasty food. Good pho and wings will come back to try more of there items
Amazing food
I had high hopes for this restaurant. Everyone has been talking about it!! It didnt disappoint in a lot of ways. Butter beef was delicious(amazing), beef luc lac was really good as well (but not amazing), two kind of dry noodle??(forgot the exact name but this was just okay to mediocre imo) And people were going nuts over the wings but they were just okay. I forgot but had better wings(similar style too!!) In Ontario(I wanna say somewhere in marhkam) I am tempted to try again few more times to explorer to see if there are other dishes that would amaze me. If I can find one more like that, definitely 5 stars.
Foood wassss but you have to wait at least 1-1.5hrs to get the table worth it tho!
Great restaurant I returned regularly desde de nino. Their garlic fried chicken is still the best hands down!
Chicken wings were the best!
I usualy get seated pretty quick for 2 but if a group, I make reservations. We always get the deep-fried chicken wings and deep-fried squid and never disappoints. As well as the shrimp egg fried rice. So good! It is definitely a must repeat. Thank you!
We ordered their famous wings. $24.40 for a box of 10 wings. This is way too over priced. I have better places that I can spend this money.
It s clear why Phnom Penh will be celebrating 40 years of business next year. This restaurant is a cornerstone of the community, culture and the city. Nothing but stellar food and service. I wish you 40 more years of business
Consistent comfort food memories of Angkor cuisine
Super busy and packed place with an extensive wait time! Be prepared to wait more than an hour, but it s so worth it. Like everyone had said about the wings; they are out of this world. Words cannot describe the flavor they have, the dry seasoning rub that comes on them makes your tongue dance the minute it comes in contact. Crunchy umami exterior, with a nice juicy tender interior. We also got the beef stew with rice noodles. Big chunks of stewed beef that melts in the mouth accompanied with buttery cartilage, seasoned very well!
A little bit of a wait is to be expected but the food is well worth it! Noodles are super fresh, beef luc lac is as delicious as promised.
Recommend the butter beef and the fried chicken wings, very good food and well seasoned Cambodian/Vietnamese food.
Totally Phnom-enal experience. We only needed to wait about 30 minutes on a Friday night. Everything from the service, food, and atmosphere was incredible. We had the green papaya salad, the beef luc lac on rice with a fried egg, the fried black pepper squid, and the fried chicken wings. They also provide a fish sauce and a chili sauce for the table, along with a small bowl of soup each. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and I appreciate that he was very honest about what to order, how to order it and what not to order (not at all based on price, just by his personal preference) so we heeded his recommendations and were not disappointed. The bustling atmosphere was great, and the food service was so quick. You know that feeling when the food is so good, you close your eyes and go to another place? Where you catch yourself doing a little happy dance when taking a bite? This was our experience at Phnom Penh.
Its very average...the seasoning is more ambiguous than expected. It was not easy for me because it was almost raw meat.
Anthony Bourdain compares food to sex in his book Kitchen Confidential . This is the very type of food he was talking about. Enjoy delicious flavour around the best company. Sit among friends and loved ones, share this experience together. Get the butter beef, coconut curry and the chicken legs. This will bring your bill to $70, feel free to upgrade the chicken legs to the bigger size which would be a delicious decision you won t regret. (don t forget to tip!)
Great selection of good food for a good price. Good and fast service. Always order their large chicken wings. Yummy..
Finally, I tried out this popular restaurant. I can see why its so popular. Food was so tasty. Great family style meal.
Amazing food. You can add yourself to the waiting list and grab a drink at the pub next door in the meantime Food
Their Chicken wing is probably one of the best i ve ever tried in my life, and i have tried many chicken wings also their filet beef. Oh lord
Still busy after all these years and still serving up a decent bowl of noodles, chicken wings, butter beef, luc lac etc. Many of the broths are Cambodian style which is a bit different flavour profile. Not the best food in town but pretty good and still well priced. You have to decide if it worth a 20 to 60 minute wait tho
Good food, very busy. Cut above the rest, serves authentic Cambodian cuisine. Busy as its a Michelin guide institution. Be careful as its busy, so busy I wonder if its worth the wait. On fence as its no frills street food dining IMHO
At the risk of getting flamed (just kidding, who cares enough to flame someone for an opinion over food), my personal experience was quite subpar. Admittedly some blame may fall on me for ordering just pho and the butter beef. Although I didnt have high hopes for the pho, I did have high hopes for the butter beef, which honestly just tasted like beef I make at home drenched in balsamic vinegar and garlic. I came mid-day and had to wait an hour which was expected. The service was by no means exceptional and I found wait time for food long, which again expected for such a busy place. I think they also added a 18% gratuity to the bill.
Over rated. Perfectly fine food but dont go out of your way.
Ong choy dish need some work but the rest are ok. We didn t wait long for seat. Great value.
Absolutely the best! My favorite restaurant in vancouver hands down -- never had a bad moment whenever I introduce new people to this restaurant. Get the butter beef, get the chicken wings, get the noodles, try everything!
The food was great, staff was very polite and the atmosphere was pretty pleasing!! Would definitely be back
No vegan options available.
Phnom Penh lived up to the hype. The wait was approximately an hour on a Sunday evening, but you can leave your number to join the waitlist so no need to stand in line. The chicken wings are definitely some of the best you ll ever have. The marinated butter beef was also really delicious. But if there s one recommendation that I can make - you have to try the lychee smoothie. Overall, the meal fully lived up to our expectations.
Hands down the best food in town!
Your food has changed in a very bad way. I used to enjoy your dishes and often brought many loved ones to your restaurant. However, I think I won t be coming back anymore. You can clearly see the significant differences in the photos. The richness of the broth, the amount of protein, and the overall quality of the dishes have all gone downhill. The first two photos show what I got today, while the next two photos show what I used to get.
Bathrooms have some to be desired, that being said. Good lord was that amazing, seriously A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The butter beef, the wings I am weak just thinking about them. The durian shake was also fantastic. Papaya salad was ok Vegetarian options: Lots of plant based dishes
We came to this restaurant with high expectations, we liked the chicken wings and the buttered beef. However, very disappointed with the loc lac rice, the beef was too dry (probably due to the cut chosen) and the oyster pancake, uninteresting. Damage!
All three dishes were delicious and fresh. The staff were friendly and it was clean.
18% gratuities apply for reservations but worth it to not have to wait min 90 mins Butter beef was tough and cut too thick Chicken wings , squid were good but definitely has too much msg. Papaya salad had no flavour Overall staff were friendly and courteous but food is definitely over hyped. Probably would not go again.
Visiting from Australia, we were recommended this place and we have no regrets at all. Food is so good and delicious. Service is prompt . Word of advice ... , be early and reservation is a must. Such a good food memory for us. Highly recommend.
We came here on our honeymoon on the recommendation of a local friend and it exceeded expectations. The Phnom Penh Deep Fried Wings were the best chicken weve ever had. The Beef Luc Lac on Rice was tender and incredible. And the Phnom Penh Spicy Squid was also so crispy and delicious. The tea was also great, and the service was as well. Well worth the hour wait for a Monday night dinner.
Frequent order of wings from here and beef rice
Amazing beef carpaccio!!! Sooo goood! Worth the wait! I love the food here. I had beef pho, it was legit! Food
So social media was going crazy about this place. It was busy despite us being there at 2pm as we still have to wait for 35 mins. We had their best sellers which included the fried wings and the shami beef. Honestly we thought it was just okay, definitely good food but social media may have over exaggerated a bit. There are definitely other good/better asian restaurants in the lower mainland. I will still recommend this place and a must go! The servers were attentive and quick.
Great food great service.
First time ever visiting this restaurant recommended by a friend. When we arrived, there was already a line waiting and we were told our wait will be about 20 minutes for two. Host took down our name and number and suggested we take a look at their menu while we wait. While sifting through the menu for maybe about 5 minutes, a table was ready much to our surprise! We were seating cozily in the back. Tables, dishes, and utensils were clean with hot tea ready for us to drink. Everyone seemed to work quickly and efficiently which explains the speedy seating. As soon as our order was taken, they provided a bowl of fish sauce and a small dish of sambal. My friend and I decided to order their chicken wings (A MUST WHEN VISITING), shaking beef, and butter beef. Everything tasted amazing but their wings, which is what they re known for, stood out to us the most. It was fried very well with bits of garlic. It came with a lemon and black pepper dipping sauce as well as their version of fish sauce. Both complimented the wings well. It did not leave behind that gross oily taste in our mouths that fried foods usually leave behind. We ordered the small portion which had 8 wings but they also offered a large portion with 14 wings. If we didn t order other dishes, we would ve opted for the large portion. I am glad I don t live in the area because I can see them becoming addictive! The shaking beef tasted homemade and was very saucy. I believe it came with complimentary pork bone soup. We were pleasantly shocked because it did not state anywhere in the menu. The soup was a nice touch because of the rainy and cold weather. It was not salty compared to other places that I ve tried. If I wasn t so full, I would ve ordered and paid for another bowl! I recommend having the sambal with the shaking beef if you enjoy spicy foods. The butter beef was something we ordered just to try for the first time. It had its own flavour profile with a soy sauce base. The herbs went very well with it and the beef did not taste game-y despite being served raw. It was a nice and light dish compared to the other two. The washrooms were clean and toilet seats were not covered in urine like most places in Vancouver. Service was quick which was expected from an Asian restaurant, however, everyone who worked in this restaurant was kind and polite. Even though they had a line of people waiting, they did not push us to eat and leave faster. They allowed us to enjoy our food without being interrupted and only came by to ask if everything was alright and if we needed anything. Overall, our visit was great! We would definitely come back to try other dishes along with their chicken wings when we are in the area!
This restaurant is over rated.I havent been to this restaurant for more than 15 years.About 3 months ago,my friends brought me there, expecting to enjoy some good food.To our disappointment, the food and service were bad.The chicken wings were bland maybe they forgot the salt ,and the dry noodles were under cooked,n hard. Last Friday,I was there with my family (7of us)to celebrate somebodys birthday. We had to wait half hour even with reservation. The service and foods were bad.We ordered 7 dishes, all of which were quite small servings. The butter beef had too much veggies and vinegar, very little meat. The chicken wings were bland, the fried veggies were over cooked, yellow in color and cold.I think Popeyes and Churchs chicken wings taste better. Nothing spectacular about the food at all.And they slapped a tip of 18% on our bill without asking. There wasnt much of a service at all.Our plates were not changed and the staff were unfriendly and rude. For sure we wont be back.
Phnom Phen on East Georgia in Vancouver is truly phenomenal! From the moment you step in, you know youre in for a treat. To kick things off, the salt and pepper chicken wings are a must-try; they ll have your mouth watering and set the tone for a fantastic meal. My go-to dish is the beef luc lac with a fried egg. The savory gravy sauce complements the tender beef perfectly, and when paired with the fried egg and rice, it creates an irresistibly delicious combination. It s comfort food at its finest! I also highly recommend the beef tartare, which is equally tasty and adds a nice variety to the meal. With so many incredible dishes to choose from, it s easy to see why Phnom Phen is a favorite among locals. Just be prepared for a lineup, as everyone knows this place consistently delivers high-quality food. Definitely worth the wait!
Love the butter beef and chicken wings Parking: Street parking. Paid Food : 5/5 |
I recently visited this establishment for a birthday lunch, and I must say it was one of the worst dining experiences I ve ever encountered. The service was abysmal, our party waited 1.5 hours to get seated. Finally sat down and when out food finally arrived, one of our dishes was completely forgotten. The staff seemed disorganized. We brought a cake to celebrate the occasion and had to repeatedly request it be served, only to be completely ignored. When the cake was finally brought out, it was long after it should have been. To add insult to experience, the food was utterly disappointing. The chicken wings were not bad, however the raw beef carpaccio was so gross. Also The $26 papaya salad was not just overpriced, but also tasted revolting. It was inedible, and the entire meal left us dissatisfied and frustrated. The situation only worsened when we decided not to tip due to the horrible service. Instead of addressing our concerns, the owner sent an employee to confront us multiple times, demanding an explanation for our decision. Shockingly, after we left, the owner chased after us to inform us that we would not be allowed to bring a cake in the future a policy that was never communicated to us beforehand. When we informed him that we would not be returning, he rudely informed us that we were not welcome back. This level of unprofessionalism, coupled with the poor quality of both service and food, makes it clear that I will never return to this establishment. I strongly advise others to avoid this restaurant at all costs.
I accompanied a friend to this restaurant for a birthday lunch, and it was a terrible experience. The $26 papaya salad was disgusting, and the service was rude throughout. When we didn t leave a tip due to the poor experience, the owner confronted us multiple times and even chased us down after we left to complain about a cake we brought. Needless to say, we won t be returning, and I wouldn t recommend this place to anyone.
I recently dined at this restaurant and experienced some of the worst service I ve ever encountered. Food was mediocre at best. The staff was inattentive and disorganized, leading to long wait times and forgotten orders. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, the owner was not only dismissive but outright rude, confronting us multiple times. The way we were treated was unprofessional and unacceptable. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment.
Absolutely a disaster. The service was awful, with staff barely paying attention to us. The food was mediocre and ridiculously overpriced. Papaya salad was 26$ and it was so gross. The guy owner was super rude. I won t be coming back and wouldn t recommend this place to anyone.
Horrible experience, definitely not worth the long wait. Don t come here, trust me.
We visited this place around 3 pm and shared a table with another couple, but we did not encounter any waiting time to be seated. Foods was decent, yet I liked to dip my oyster pan with the source of marinated beef. I encourage everyone who loves the food here should take a trip to Taiwan, since the similarities but much better quality
It s always worth the wait! Service is always amazing and food are really good!
Came here on a Saturday for lunch, and the wait was 1.5 hours. We got the squid and the butter beef. I thought the squid was pretty tasty, but some pieces were way too salty. The butter beef was mostly tender, but some parts were chewier. The bottom is all sauce, so it was pretty overpowering. For the wait, I expected better with the food. The menu has tons of items, so maybe we just got the wrong items
Food is good, but experience is definitely rushed.
I saw on Netflix Seth Rogen bringing chief David Chang to try their fried chicken wing and now I understand why. It s totally worth the hype. I don t know what they are putting in their spices for it to be addictive but it was absolutely delicious. I went solo and regret to have taken the smaller plate As for the marinated Butter Beef, it was tasty and very delicious. Only thing is that I felt they did put a lot of coriander but it was still very good. Strongly recommend this place to anyone.
Foods are fantastic and the Services were good except we were put on the waiting list and was informed that we would be informed via text but this person phoned me instead under his name. Why not using Phnom Penh phone numbers.
A Bib Gourmand and an early line are fine indicators of quality, but hype can be a dangerous thing for the hungry traveler. Fortunately, this place is all that - we stuck to the classic butter beef and wings, both characterized by perfect flavour balance, with an emphasis on sweetness to cut through the herbs and salt respectively. I assume the butter beef gets its name from the texture, as this is totally addicting and some of the smoothest meat I ve slurped down. The wings were my ideal dry rub - perfectly fried and dipping sauce that I cannot get enough of. Topped off with a sweet and strong Viet coffee, I m already dreaming of my next visit.
Food is amazing, definitely worth the hype. Its crazy how busy and the wait time this place is, but its worth it.
The marinated butter beef and the fried wings are a must
Fried chicken and butter beef were standout dishes. We lined up at 10:55am before opening (behind about 6 other parties) and was seated immediately upon opening. Definitely worth lining up early to secure a table as we were quoted 90 to 105 minute wait at 6:00pm the previous day.
One of the best restaurants in the city, hands down.
Food was good overall. My only complaint is for the shrimp dish that we got. Why cut it open and not clean out the poop.
Take out only on covid 19
Food just shows up whenever, one drink came the other never did..... Food is average at best
Yummy, asian style food
Get there at 1pm, have to wait for 1 1/2 hours. The Garlic Crispy Chicken was very good. Beef with rice was not good and very salty, not recommended
Worth the wait! Get there early to ensure you get in. I thought this place was too hyped up, but it lived up to it. Highly recommend. Food : 5/5
Amazing food and service, But too loud Food
All the good was perfect, no complaints here. Went with mostly all the house favourites. And tried some of the other items. Definitely recommend try the -Beef butter marinate(sweet soy sauce with onions, ginger, a lot of cilantro/parsley) -Phnom Pheh pho was also good -Deep fried chicken wings. A nice sweet and crispy but also came with a good size portion of lemon pepper sauce to dip your wings in.
Cant go wrong with their chicken wings and squid.
Best wings in town
Overhyped. The famous wings are good but nothing special. The rare beef is tough and hard to chew. Ive had better viet places in Vancouver. that taste closer to what I had in Vietnam. everything was very mediocre. Not worth the 2 hr wait and it is overpriced. Will only go once, wont go back even if no wait. One of the proof that Michelin stars means not that much to Asian cuisines in Western countries
Very good restaurant in the Asian district of the city. Be careful there is a wait
Order the carpaccio; you are welcome.
Oyster omelette is da bomb! So are their signature fried chicken wings. Very unique taste to be found nowhere else Food : 5/5
Make a reservation! Or wait hours for a table!! We booked 3 days in advance. While we sat eating, lots of ppl standing out front waiting dont be a waiter. Highly recommend, lots of great tasting food and dishes. Lots of street parking available.
Came here with some friends to try this place because of the online hype. I ordered the stew beef rice noodles and we shared the marinated butter beef and Phnom Penh chicken wings. The stew beef rice noodles was good and had tons of beef. The marinated butter beef is definitely overhyped. It wasnt anything special. The only good thing was the chicken wings, those were delicious.
All about that Spicy Squid w/ lemon pepper sauce! Could be the best bite in Vancouver. The hot tea is a sleeper, very tasty. The papaya salad so refreshing. The lemongrass pork was also quite good, I want to try the beef next time. Always a good choice here, just put your name, wait the time its worth it.
It is a family restaurant with delicious food and well-served dishes.
$17-23 CAD per dish (even vegetables) is pretty steep for the area and it didnt feel worth the price. The chicken wings were pretty good but the butter beef was tough and chewy.
I was super excited to try this spot because I ve heard that they ve got michelin they were so busy and waiting time was around 30 mins The best one was the chicken wings which was super crispy and yummy! Please try!
This might be the best Asian restaurant in Vancouver! 5 stars
Lunch with 3 others. Had the butter beef, chicken wings, garlic prawns, kailan and shrimp fried rice. Two people also had pho and lemongrass porkchop woth fried rice. For drinks we had lychee crush, mango and durian shakes Beef and wings the stars, but all the food was very good as were the drinks. Service was quick and responsive. Food not all served together, but as each dish is ready. Arrived at 1120am on a weekday and waited about 20mins to get a table. We left at 1pm and there were lots of tables available. Very highly recommended if you are looking for south east Asian in Vancouver.
Must try the fried chicken wing & Luc Lac Beef rice with egg. Signature dishes. Food
The food was unbelievable, so much flavour in every bite. The service was funny and helpful! Very authentic atmosphere with a long line, we waited 30-45 minutes (with text notification) but it was worth every minute. Highly recommend!
Service has gone downhill over the past year. Servers just constantly keep coming at our table that made us feel we need to rush. They never gave us time to enjoy or try to enjoy the food. We did not even stayed there for 1hr, but they wanted us to leaved ASAP. The male owner or manager even came to our table giving us, their costumers, the eye look. Even 3 of the servers kept giving us those eye look. We spent lots plus TIPS, but they still wanted us to get the F out of there ASAP just so they can turn the table . There are more people who came in and were still sitting and talking when we left. Michelin Guide should really need to reconsider this place.
Food and service hasnt changed. I havent been here in a few years. Everything is still awesome. The only difference is they are super busy now and wait times vary from 30 mins to 2 hours depending when you get there. Its worth the wait though!!
Phnom Penh Restaurant is a gem for anyone craving delicious and affordable Cambodian cuisine in Vancouver. The menu is packed with flavorful dishes, and the Pho and Spring Rolls are particularly noteworthy. The casual, no-frills atmosphere makes it a great spot for a relaxed meal. Service is friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. If you re looking for great value and tasty food, Phnom Penh is definitely worth a visit!
I have a particular fondness for the chicken wings at that place, and the Luc Lac beef rice with egg and raw beef is also a personal favorite. While the service and ambiance may be considered average, the real standout is undeniably the scrumptious quality of the food.
Amazing food, get the chicken wings!
It was alright. Was it worth the 2 hour wait? Definitely not. Being from San Francisco we re spoiled with Asian restaurants, and ones that specialize in fried chicken wings (like San Tung which is amazing). Wings were lathered in MSG, noodles were ok, butter beef was good. Service was ok. Wait was just waaaaaay too long for this level of food. Sorry, won t be back.
Their chicken wings are really good, but the Bo Luc Lac was too sweet for me. Long wait even on weekdays!
Worth the wait and hype! We arrived around 5pm to already a huge queue and had to wait around 2 hours for a table. Be sure to put your name down as they dont take reservations. The atmosphere inside is extremely loud and reminded me of a night market type of vibe so be aware if youre looking for more of a intimate setting. Its basically a food over atmosphere/service type of restaurant which I love. With all that being said, the food is flavourful and the menu is abundant. Probably one of my favorite restaurants I ate at in my time in Vancouver.
I will start by saying the wait time is 90 mins long on a Wednesday night. I went there early (5:40 pm) to put our name down. Got seated around 7:05 pm. The service was not great, especially for a Michelin bib place. We were rushed to order and when we asked to keep a menu. The lady took all the menu and 10 minutes later gave us their take out menu that s a piece of paper. We ordered the chicken wings, marinated butter beef, beef luc luc and the dried noodles that has meat and shrimp in it. I enjoyed the food, and had the best butter beef ever, but overall other food items didn t live up the hype. While the group enjoyed the food, all of us felt very rushed by them to get outta the restaurant even tho there weren t any groups waiting anymore. 4 waiters came by in 10 mins asking if we were still working on our food or if they could clean the table. It was ridiculous. If you happen to find yourself there, I d recommend the butter beef and the chicken wings.
So delicious
Food was amazing. Absolutely delicious! We had the Butter beef, wings, pho and bun thit nuong. Came on a Friday at 6:30 and got in at 8:20 so suggest coming early to put your name down.
Phnom Penh is a renowned Vietnamese-Cambodian restaurant located in the heart of Vancouvers Chinatown. If you have the opportunity to dine there, make sure to indulge in their highly recommended specialties: the mouthwatering fried chicken wings and the delectable butter beef!
Best chicken wings in downtown Vancouver! And MICHELIN 2023 .plan your trip sometimes long wait 1-2hr. Not much street parking
Just try, it s amazing. The chicken wings are freaking good Food
chicken wings and squid goated wait is long, can only reserve if youre 6+ people, staff isnt so friendly Food : 4/5
This place may be a little hole in the wall, but the food is just phenomenal, the chicken wings are absolutely delicious, and the Beef tastes so FRESH, definitely recommend
Best in town.. bring your appetite when you come in here. Usually a lineup. A group of six or more to reserve a table.
Went around 6pm Thursday. The doorman said it was 1-1.5hr wait but we actually got called just after 20 minutes. The dining experience was extremely noisy and chaotic because it was packed. The soup noodles were alright and the beef luc lac was good. Nothing outstanding.
This spot has been on my to go list for around 2 years at this point since everyone hypes it up. After a 90 min wait we finally got a table in the loud, busy restaurant. And you know what, the food was worth the wait! Everything we tried tasted amazing, and I was very happy to order way too much and stuff myself. Would highly recommend the butter beef and the chicken wings.
Butter beef and the chicken wings is so amazing!!! I would come back just for that. The fried squid was tasty but over fried. Everything was just so delicious and the quality hasn t gone down even from many years ago. It s no wonder this place is always packed and an hour and half wait on a Thursday night.
Theres no denying this place is one of Vancouvers culinary icons, and snagging a spot even for a weekday lunch can be a real challenge, but its worth the effort. Their wings and marinated butter beef are my absolute favorites, though plenty of other dishes stand out too. Its definitely a spot best enjoyed with a group. While I wish it was easier to get in, I also wish them many more years of drawing big, hungry crowds theyve certainly earned it.
Definitely worth the wait. We went Monday night but was super busy with 2 cranky kids. We return early Wednesday and within 30mins there was already a people waiting. Definitely one of the best fried chicken. Food came out super quick. So many items to try. Toddler really enjoyed the beef luc lac with rice. Cant wait to return and try more dishes.
Amazing restaurant that never fails to impress. Their wings and butter beef are especially good. I have noticed that the wings are not as good as they used to be (perhaps they changed the marinade? Its not as flavorful) but are still very good. It is very busy and you should expect to line up for 1 hour without a reservation. You cant get a reservation here unless you have at least 6 people. The area is a little shady so dont stray too far from the restaurant. Getting donuts beforehand while you wait from Mello is a good idea.
Best Asian food experience I ve ever had and that s saying a lot. Worth the long wait. Best chicken wings I ve ever had. The Bo Lu Lac is the best Asian dish I ve ever had. The butter beef was also special. This place is a must if you visit Vancouver.
Bring friends and family here whenever we want a great experience and it ALWAYS delivers! Thanks to everyone at the restaurant for a great experience.
Waited an hour to get a table for 5 on a weekday. The chicken wings really are like crack. Worth it. Because of the waitlist, the server not so gently told us that we gotta go as soon as we paid. If you want to try their wings they have a satellite kitchen in Vancouver as well
Bib Gourmand restaurant. Long queue to reflect its quality. The raw beef is a must.
Discovered this on TikTok and it did not disappoint. Incredible food - the butter beef was amazing and my kids absolutely destroyed two large orders of their famous chicken wings. Wait was supposed to be 75 minutes but we only had to wait 30. Would definitely come back.
Must visit restaurant in Vancouver. Unique blend of Cambodian and Vietnamese food. Quick service, and tasty! Try the buttery beef, or bo luc loc. you won t be disappointed.
