The food is delicious and portions are huge! Well worth the price. The flavors are so rich and tasty...everything we had was so good. I ordered the vol-au-vent and it was really good. The pastry was crispy and the mushrooms were cooked very well. The only thing was that it took a really long time for the food to come out and the server had to be reminded to fill my hot water (it sat empty for long period of time). But overall, A+!

Parisian vibes in the centre of Vancouver! Alouette was a lovely surprise when I walked in, it's such a romantic, dark aesthetic, very sultry and chic. Beautifully decorated if you like aesthetics like me. The service was incredible, Fehmi was the best! Executive table group always has really experienced and professional staff, and it feels like a really high end experience. The bone marrow was delicious, my fav main dish was the squid ink pasta, that was incredible. Desserts are fancy and a spectacle, the crepes have a liquor poured over them, that's alight. Cocktails, I loved the french tart, it has a grapefruit flavour, beautiful presentation and grey goose vodka of course!

I celebrated my birthday at Alouette Bistro for a date night, and the experience was fantastic! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, leaving a lovely note for my special day. They even surprised me with a complimentary dessert, which added such a thoughtful touch. We got the St. Tropez margaritas, escargot, and steak frites—everything was absolutely delicious. The drinks were excellent, and I absolutely loved the vibe and interior design—chic yet cozy, perfect for a memorable evening. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great service and a warm, inviting atmosphere!

Server was a little bit awkward and made us feel uncomfortable at times. She came back too early to try and take our order a couple of times and we felt like we were inconveniencing her. We were so stuffed that we asked to get our food packed up. Again, we felt like we were an inconvenience and like we were being rushed. A second male waiter came around twice in a matter of 1-2 minutes, asking if he could pack up the bread that he could see me eating.. I felt awkward so I let him take it away. We ordered the escargot, bouillabaisse, the lamb rack and received a complimentary dessert, craquelin profiterole (star of the show) for my boyfriend’s birthday. While the food was good, it was nothing super special and we sadly tried nothing that would bring us back. However the portion sizes were definitely insane for the price, and they had a nice wine selection. The ambiance was also unmatched. I’d still recommend others to try this place out, maybe it just wasn’t for us but as they say - different strokes for different folks!

Perfect for a date night! The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the service is top-notch. While the cocktails were enjoyable, they didn’t particularly stand out. However, the appetizers and main dishes more than made up for it. The duck was incredibly tender, and the Pasta Provençal was absolutely outstanding!

Very intimate atmosphere, sophisticated and elegant. The food presentation is fantastic and it tastes even better. The servers are attentive, nice but I wish they were friendlier but I’m just being picky. The wine selection from France is great and highly recommend trying a couple. If you plan ahead ask for the very private and romantic tables in the mezzanine.

A delightful experience in this French bistro. Food was on point, we had the ratatouille and halibut, as well as the chicken. The service was kind and attentive. The dining room has a warm and charming interior, in complementary aesthetic to the cuisine. They also have a special half-price offer on wine bottles on Thursdays (best to ask beforehand to ensure it’s still being offered).

Excellent French bistro in downtown Vancouver. The food was oh so delicious. Every course was beautifully plated with bold flavors. Good portions too. Paul was a wonderful server, very attentive with great recommendations. He knew the menu well and could easily accommodate my gluten free requests. Many items on the menu are either gluten free as is or can be slightly modified. They even brought out GF bread with the escargot for me (and left off the breadcrumbs, of course). Several vegetarian items (maybe vegan too). The staff was so good at refilling our water glasses and being available for everything right away. Stellar service all around. Highly recommend.

The service was great but the food was a bit underwhelming. The escargot had a weird after taste, very different from what I had compared to other places. The foie gras was overcooked. Mussels were not plump. They were very tiny and not juicy although the portion was huge. I was hoping the food would be better than this.

We were rudely interrupted during our meal when the server brought the credit card machine and asked for payment. The food was mediocre at best, with my dish duck cassoulet tasting like canned soup. I would not suggest this place to anyone.

Tried it out after seeing some great reviews on TripAdvisor. The food was good, and the space was beautiful and the lighting warm, but it felt very cramped, our table was right at the door. The music was too loud to be able to hear anyone at the table. We wanted to share a bottle of wine but didnt know which one, though we wanted to keep it low cost (there are $6000 bottles on the menu, we wanted <$80 which had a handful of options). So the waiter brought the sommelier and it felt very tense because we didnt know what we wanted and didnt have the expertise, we just wanted a reasonably priced bottle that was a great overall wine generally speaking. We couldnt hear the sommelier at all cause of the music too which made it somewhat awkward. The sommelier was offering to start with champagne and progress into multiple bottles but it felt overwhelming. The chosen wine was very good though! But the sommelier insisted on pouring wine for our pregnant guest who said no thank you and it felt awkward, as if its not normal to say you dont drink (which is very acceptable for any person). Also, 2 of us were celiacs and put gluten free on the reservation. When I asked about gluten free options, the waitress offered to just pick anything and they will check with the kitchen. Typically for gluten free there are usually a few recommendations based on the capability of the kitchen, so I was hoping for any guidance but given none. So then when I asked about one of the menu items, the squid ink spaghettini, the waitress was shocked that I asked that and didnt understand that it could be gluten free (i.e. gf noodles). So I asked about the duck cassoulet and that was feasible, but when the food arrived it was pretty cold. The other gluten free person in my party also ordered a beef tartare which was delicious and came with gf bread (even though the waitress said they dont have gf bread?), but when we ordered it we asked for it to also come with regular bread for the other guests, and they forgot (we felt too petty to ask again). Then, another member of my party ordered the squid ink spaghettini, but ended up with tiny bits of clam shells in his mouth (maybe they werent shelled properly)? Overall, Im happy to pay this price point for a dinner but didnt feel like the food, service, or atmosphere qualified the pricing they were charging. Ive been to quite a few other restaurants at this price point which excel in all three areas comparatively. I dont write this critique to be malicious, but rather to provide some constructive criticism for possible improvement. Thank you. Dietary restrictions: Challenging for celiacs, options unclear. Waitress not familiar with kitchen ability.

After thinking about it for a long time, I decided to write this review in Chinese. Mainly because I feel that there are enough English reviews for reference. Maybe native Chinese speakers will have similar eating habits (?). Let s use it as a reference. My background is a combination of Chinese and Western. I have spent several years in Europe, North America and New Zealand and Australia. I am not 100% Asian or 100% Western. I personally feel that the decoration and atmosphere of this restaurant are very normal. I don t think it is particularly good or bad. It is probably because I have been in Europe for a few years and similar decoration/style/atmosphere is quite common. , objectively speaking: I think it is quite satisfactory, and the details that should be paid attention to are also fulfilled. However, the accompanying friend did not have long-term experience in North America or Europe. As a tourist, I highly praised the decoration/style/atmosphere of the entire restaurant. From the moment I entered to the moment I left, I felt very good. I think the quality of the waiters is at a certain level, and they handle advancements and retreats quite appropriately (but some people think this is how it should be?), and my friend is very satisfied. As for the process and speed of serving food, there is really no problem for me. We arrived at 6:30 and checked out at 8:00. I think based on the French tradition of taking a long time to eat, the speed of my friend and I is considered It was a bit too fast, but I did notice that there was a period of time between the appetizer and the main meal. But I personally enjoyed it. I ate slowly and chatted, but my friend was a little hungry. , so I feel it s a bit long and a bit difficult. The deliciousness of the food is really a big deduction! For appetizers, we ordered Escargot and Beef Tartare. There was no problem with the flavors of both, but we felt that we ordered the wrong ones. Both are foods with strong flavors and can easily affect each other, so if they are shared, It is necessary to drink a little more water between two foods to dilute the taste in your mouth so that you can truly taste the original taste of the food. But the staple food was really not good at all. We ordered Rainbow Trout Almondine and Squid Ink Spaghettini and were really disappointed. First of all, for the Rainbow Trout Almondine, the menu description says cauliflower, braising greens, tomato, almonds, capers, brown butter sauce. The price is CAD$52 (before tax). I don t know why. It may be because of different perceptions. We really I didnt expect that what was served on the table would be fried food. Yes, the fish was fried. I was really stunned for a moment (is it the fine dining version of fish and chips?) As for Squid Ink Spaghettini, the menu description said spaghettini, clams, humboldt squid, fennel, leeks, tomato, spinach. However, I secretly expected it to be black noodles with black sauce. Unfortunately, it backfired. It was black noodles. , but there is no black sauce, it is paired with a slightly yellowish transparent sauce (a small amount of butter, olive oil, garlic...etc.), and there is no aroma of cuttlefish noodles at all (but if this is garlic olive oil pasta If so, I think it s done well) And these two staple foods are delicious. salty. of. Can. Afraid! ! My friends and I were shocked by the saltiness. It was really too salty to the point where we felt it was unpalatable and we couldn t even eat it (the first and second bites were okay, but we couldn t finish the whole portion later). The waiter really came to refill the water too many times. I felt that the waiter was a little scared when he asked How do you like the food? (after all, the customer drank so much water), but I really couldnt stand it, so I told the waiter that he felt When you are too salty, apart from regrets and apologies, you don t get any services or actions that can improve or solve the problem (but because you don t have any expectations, you don t have any special feelings, but you should be reminded of expecting the problem to resolve ). People who are solved will feel better if they relax.) This is also the biggest reason for giving three stars. The deliciousness of the food really takes away points. I hope I just accidentally ordered it, or it really just doesn t suit my personal taste

First time dining here. The service and atmosphere were great but the food was not. French onion soup is one of my faves and I ve never had it oily before especially where it didn t mix in with the broth. The Brie was also extra oily and not just the normal cheese oil. It was like high dishes were doused in olive oil. Highly doubt I will try it again.

Just ok. Went here yesterday for a business dinner and our server was friendly but not very attentive. Water glasses were filled initially and then only when we asked for them to be refilled. Appetizer came out after the mains. Food was ok, but for the price, I expected better. They provided some good recommendations for wine for our table, but the non-alcoholic cocktails were overpriced and just so-so. I personally would not go back. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian mains for two of our group.

First I want to say I dont recommend this place if you are allergic to gluten. I made very clear to the waitress last Saturday I was allergic and she assured me she would make sure the food was all gluten free or modified to be and later that night i woke up more bloated then Ive ever been..gasey, in pain, brain fog the whole nine yards of a celiac eating gluten. Im guessing they didnt clean there pans or cutting board or something, maybe the red wine jus had wheat as the thickener. Regardless i was not impressed. Im not rich and to pay 250$ for my girlfriend and I to have a nice night out just to get gluten attacked is not a great night. I would love to rate this place well but I cant, yes the atmosphere is great and food was good but unfortunately i wont be back

This was our second visit to this restaurant, and we had a great time on both occasions. We made a reservation, and since it was my girlfriends birthday, they put a happy birthday card for her on her seat. Got a few visits from the manager to see how we are doing and to congratulate her. The atmosphere and vibe are absolutely lovely. Its a blend of french and North american bistro style inside of a hotel. The food and service are pretty good. I would say its not fine dining, but for sure, if you would like a more relaxed environment but with professional service and French food, this place would do great. Love the lively atmosphere and staff are young and energetic and professional. We tried the coq au vin, the steak and fritts, a couple of different salads, bread and butter, the moules et frites. Tried a few glasses of french wines and a couple of cocktails. Everything was tasty and well prepared. My favorite was the coq au vin and steak frites Would love to come back to try the breakfast one day.

This place is a classic example of how the ambiance of a restaurant can play a big role in the perception of it being good. The decor and everything else in regard to that pillar is very good. Well thought out. Nice lighting. And the chairs are comfy. But it ends there. The food was meh. The bennys were too well done (after asking for otherwise), the toast was bland and so was the omelette. I would give this place a 2 star rating but the dessert was good. Probably will not be going here again. Copper Chimney - which was the restaurant prior to this was much better. It s a shame that it closed down.

Picked this restaurant to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary after reading the reviews online. My wife is really into French cuisine so this place appeared to be perfect. Booking the reservation was easy (I booked about a month in advance to get the time and date I wanted) and was excited to celebrate. We arrived on time and were quickly brought to our table, which had a nice note greeting us for our anniversary. Our server, Wanita was eager to welcome us and provided us with a treat and genuinely appeared happy to take care of us. There s a lot of things on the menu we wanted to try but since we re meat lovers, we decided to go with the Le Grand Plat, which is a huge steak with a variety of sauces, bone marrow, roasted garlic and bread and we added some foie gras (it was really worth the addition). Given it was a huge plate, we were told it would take while to prepare so we waited for about an hour for our food to come. We also figured we could take home the rest if we couldn t finish it. The drinks we ordered were really good so didn t mind the wait and it gave us more time to build up an appetite. When the food finally came, the meat was a little tougher than we expected and needed a little more flavour. We also asked for medium rare and it arrived a little rarer than we preferred. It comes with 3 sauces, peppercorn jus, bearnaise, and chimichuri (this one really lacked salt. It was pretty much parsley and olive oil. Thankfully, the roasted garlic added some much needed flavour). We finished a little more than half and asked for the rest to be packed for us to take home. It was quite disappointing to open the container today to find that no sauces were included and the meat was drowned together with the fries, which made the meat extra greasy. The food is understandably on the expensive side, but it appears the finer details were either missed or overlooked. Overall, I think it s a decent place to go to with good food and very good service, but in our experience, the expectations we had for the prices paid were not met. I would have given the place an overall 2 stars but our server Wanita was quite attentive so I think it s only fair that it counts for something.

We had high expectations and were unfortunately disappointed. The location of our table wasn t ideal as we were seated behind a wall, which may have contributed to the lack of service we received. The food was good. My fiancé ordered the lamb and said it was cooked perfectly. I ordered the Coq au Vin, and although the chicken was delicious, there wasn t much to it aside from a small amount of potato puree (which tasted delicious, and I was disappointed there wasn t more), as well as some mixed root vegetables that tasted fine. After we finished our meals, we waited at least 15 minutes before asking a different server to clear our plates so we could order dessert. No one asked if we wanted anything else to drink either. When it came to getting the bill, we had to ask another server. In total, we had four different staff members helping us, and only because we had to ask since our original server was assisting everyone else except for us. I really want to recommend this place to others, but I m not sure if I can confidently say we enjoyed our experience. We ended up going to a different restaurant afterwards down the street, and regretted not eating there instead.

Inconsistent...party of 12 for brunch. Almost every one ordered an Eggs Benedict...every egg on every plate was different...one poached egg was a medium poach and the other was a hard poach. One guest has a food allergy. Requested that there is none of the allergen be on the plate, after already waiting over 45 minutes for our brunch the food came out with the allergen. Plate was sent back. Finally a new plate was served. After eating the first eggs Benny that was over poached, they came to find the allergen again in the second Benny. Very silly. They did comp the Benny at least. What is frustrating is with the price we are paying at these places to eat and the 18% gratuity already added to the bill, there is a level of expectation. This place did not meet that expectation. Inconsistent food across the table and across each plate. From portions to the cook on every egg. Highly disappointed. I understand times are tough for everyone, for the seller and the buyer alike, but if you are going to charge the prices you are charging and tacking on an 18% gratuity before the customer can even decide if its worth it to give is not fair. Since you are doing that you had better make damn sure that food is worth every penny of the price tag plus that 18% you are assuming that you are entitled to. As your customer the price was way too high for what was served. Alouette Bistro did not meet the expectations. I had high hopes.

My husband & I were seated upstairs right up against a wide black pillar & felt like we were shoved into an oddly placed tiny table that shouldn t be there. My menu didn t have a menu inside (not a huge deal) I used my husband s menu. Our server seemed stretched very thin and took a while to greet us once seated. We ordered our drinks and our server brought me the wrong drink. My correct drink arrived about 20 min later, 1/2 way through our meal once I was ready to just drink water. The escargots were overpowered by herbs, and the bone marrow was disappointing compared to other places I ve tried. However, the Tea for Marie, a gin served in a teapot with charming presentation and exceptional mix, was a standout. The fromage du jour, a cheese board with a variety of cheeses, almonds, and grapes, was delicious even for a blue cheese skeptic like me. Service was good and accommodating, though a bit more attentiveness would have been appreciated. Overall, while some dishes missed the mark, the unique cocktails and cheese board made the visit worthwhile.

Originally, it was supposed to be an enjoyable double date night. To be honest, the appetizers were great, fresh, and delicious. However, we waited an hour for the main course, and the steak we ordered medium came out rare. We sent it back twice, and the first time it came back exactly the same. The second time, the manager told me that this is how they serve medium steaks at their restaurant?? Not only did the server disappear halfway through, but their attitude was also terrible.

September 23, 2024

I had a disappointing experience at Alouette Bistro recently. We had to endure an exceptionally long wait for our food for about 30-40 minutes, which was frustrating enough. When the steak finally arrived, we had requested it medium rare, but it was served rare. When we mentioned this to the staff, they insisted it was medium and not even medium rare. To make matters worse, our server was missing for half of our time there, and it was nearly impossible to find any staff when we needed something. The overall service was lacking, and it felt like our concerns were not taken seriously. I hope they work on their service and quality control to improve the dining experience.

The experience at this restaurant was just average. While the staff were friendly and the food wasnt bad, neither aspect truly stood out. Our table was situated on the mezzanine floor, tucked away in a back corner. I believe dining downstairs or at a table overlooking the lower level would have provided a better atmosphere. Oddly, when we requested mayonnaise for our fries with the main course, we were informed that they only offered ketchup. Additionally, the morels that accompanied the lamb were gritty, which we mentioned to the staff. When it came time to settle the bill, we found ourselves as the only table left upstairs, with no staff in sight. After waiting nearly 10 minutes for someone to attend to us, we had to go downstairs and ask for our bill on the way out, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, the experience was just okay, but I wouldnt be in a hurry to return.

From as soon as we entered the hospitality was superb. We really appreciated the attention to detail for our anniversary - from the acknowledgement from the manager, and the complimentary glass of bubbles/dessert, to the table card congratulating us on our anniversary. All very thoughtful touches. The food was also divine! We enjoyed the tableside steak tartare. Our mains were incredible too. Our server had a great balance of reading our table - coming over at the right time and making thoughtful recommendations. The ambiance and decor were beautiful. We sat on the top floor and remarked on how it was lovely to be able to have a conversation without loud music blaring, or hearing others around us. Well be back! And well also be telling our friends about how enjoyable the experience was.

Came with a friend for a casual dinner for two with a reservation on a Thursday . We were seated promptly at a well-placed, intimate table. Choice of water offered immediately with menus and introduction by our waiter, who was very helpful and suggested a great wine. My friend ordered the Trout that was exceptionally well cooked, skin on, and extremely tasty! I had ordered the beef tartare and salade au lardons. Seeing the tartare was au gueridon (tableside), I was excited, however it was very disappointing. Meat not properly cut, with long strings of beef. Dijonaise lacked dijon and was more a mayo. Plate lacked acidity and salt. Salade au lardons was ok. Presentation, while lovely, caused the flavours to pool at the bottom, away from salad. Digestif cocktails were tasty. All in all, a pleasant evening due to the nice service, wonderful atmosphere and great drinks. However the food seemed lacking. All the components were there for an exceptional French meal, just need refining.

Alouette in Vancouver offers an unforgettable culinary experience. The chickpea fries were an unexpected delight crispy on the outside, tender inside, with a subtle, savory flavor that paired perfectly with their tangy aioli. The garlic mussels were a highlight, served in a rich, aromatic broth that was perfect for soaking up with the fresh, crusty bread. The cassoulet was a hearty masterpiece, featuring tender meats and perfectly cooked beans, all simmered to perfection in a deeply flavorful sauce. Their pasta dish, a standout on the menu, featured handmade pasta cooked al dente, with a sauce that balanced richness and freshness impeccably. The service was outstanding, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who ensured that every detail of the meal was perfect. Alouette is a must-visit for anyone seeking exceptional dining in Vancouver.

I went to Alouette Bistro last night with my 7 year old son after 7:30pm. We were super tired and hungry after the long day at Playland. They welcomed and served us really nicely. We started with Escargot and French onion soup were the best Ive ever had and the price was reasonable(both less than $20). The server was very accommodating, providing some bread and butter for super hungry us. Even though it was a busy evening for them, they approached multiple times to check on us. I will definitely come back next time I visit Vancouver! Kid-friendliness: The only thing I want to mention is I wish there was a plastic cup for children. The table was rather small, and I was a bit worried if my son will drop and break the water glass(wine glass).

August 23, 2024

I have always enjoyed Alouette and have spent significant amounts of money there over the years - the blonde waitress I usually get is always phenomenal. However, my most recent visit was dreadful and embarrassing due to a simple error that the staff refused to acknowledge. I was served an unusually pale and weak Aperol Spritz. When I mentioned this to the server, she awkwardly insisted it was made correctly. The manager then came out, aggressively reiterating the same stance. Instead of attempting to resolve the issue, they chose to argue repeatedly. I even offered to pay for an extra ounce of Aperol to make the drink acceptable, but the manager insinuated it was irresponsible to serve more alcohol, revealing a lack of both bar and customer service skills. I had just returned from Italy, where I had even just visited the official Aperol bar in Venice, and never in my years of enjoying Aperol Spritz have I ever had an Aperol Spritz served like this before. This experience turned what was meant to be an enjoyable lunch for my out-of-town guest into a farcical display of poor service. I will not be returning to Alouette.

Then afterward, I had a crepe suzette with peaches that had been flambayed in bourbon, and I would say it maybe had a bit too strong of a bourbon tast but was still excellent. The atmosphere was amazing and I was seated so I had a good view of the bar which was beautiful and they were playing an old movie. It was truly a 10/10 experience, and I would happily have a James bond style fight there.

My wife and I dined at Alouette Bistro last night and were highly impressed by the wonderful service we received from Morgan and Michael. It was our anniversary and we were greeted by a Happy Anniversary postcard and two flutes of complimentary sparkling wine. Off to a wonderful start! The appetizers were tasty (escargot + mussels & frites) and the rack of lamb & duck Cassoulet looked delicious. The Cassoulet was fairly good, though we had to add salt and pepper as it wasnt very flavourful, but the problem was with the rack of lamb. The portion was generous, but it was about 40% fat. One of the three pieces was perfect, one was pretty fatty and the other was mostly inedible. We didnt dsicover this until well into the meal (the fatty piece was the last we dug into). I suppose I could have sent it back at that point, but we were 2/3 through so we savaged a couple of bites from that piece and mentioned it to our server. He checked with the kicthen and came back with mild apologies and asked if I wanted to register a complaint. The evening had been wonderful overall, so I just accepted the result. For the price point of the entree ($66) and given that about 40% of the lamb was left on our plates, a small price reduction or complimentary dessert seemed to be in order, but when we not offered this, it wasnt that big of a deal as our experience had been quite good overall. We will likley be back as the service is wonderful and the ambiance is lovely. Just wont be ordering the rack of lamb again.

Been meaning to try Aloutte Bistro for quite some time. Stopped by for weekend brunch in mid January and it was pretty busy but we managed to get a table without waiting. Interior is well appointed and service is attentive. Its connected Le Soleil and appears to have a second floor but we sat in the main floor dining area which has high ceilings. You cant help but look up and stare at the the large light fixture hanging from the ceiling. The duck cassoulet ($37) was piping hot when it came out and had a creamy concoction of white cannellini beans, carrots, and sausage. On top of that was perched a perfectly cooked duck confit. Fat was nicely rendered to give the delicate skin a nice crispy bite while keeping the meat moist and juicy. Wound up taking a lot of this home as its quite filling. The French onion soup ($17) had a nice cheesy pull and had a rich beefy flavour. The moules frites ($28) was served with a white wine broth with fennel, leek, tomato. We were surprised at how large and plump the mussels were in this bowl. Definitely want to come back and try more of their menu. UPDATE Jun 2024 - Revisit to try their Coq au Vin and Moules Frites. Food was still good. Interior can be a bit dark depending on which table you get seated at. Washrooms are located outside the restaurant (in the attached hotel).

Reserved in advance, I arrived to be shown a lonely table at the rear, situated behind a huge pillar that removed any view of the advertised grand hall and remarkable windows -- actually, it removed sight of everything. For starters I chose the Baked Brie, a whole cube that was baked with herbs in a rare syrup, and hardened such that it was beyond the power of the knife supplied. The entree, my frequently chosen Rainbow Trout arrived in a flattened non-succulent state, swimming in an ocean of brown sauce. Certainly, not deserving of my often used adjectives. Throughout the whole time of my visit I felt ignored by the staff ... well, I was carelessly out of sight !! In particular, the barman/server/maitred who, in one brief moment, was seen to abruptly chastise the Japanese trainee server for being slow. As I prepared to leave, the whole restaurant was deserted by all staff and, happily, there was no one at the door to wish my return. Note; I present the single star to the silent Japanese trainee.

In one word, tasteless food and ultra slow service. Though the servers were attentive and pleasant. How could a hotel establishment in downtown Vancouver allow such poor quality bistro, thats a question beyond my understanding. Duck confits were bland & overcooked and soaking in a bed of mushy beans. My Pasta Provencale was boiled in some watery sauce and absolutely tasteless. Crepes Suzettes were served reheated from the freezer. French cuisines are meant to be prepared from fresh ingredients and served in mouth watering aroma and layered tastes. This place is most likely catered by a group of chefs trained by McDonalds.

Our waiter, Guillaume was very accomodating. My wife had the St.Tropez Margarita but it was tooo spicy for her, so I asked Guillaume if he could change it..for a regular Margarita which he did without hesitation. We did have to ask the other server to hold off on the tartare until we finished cocktails and starters. The food was very good. The escargots were excellent and our friend loved her Salad Lyonnaise and her Coq au vin as her main. My wife just had the escargots and the tartare which are her favorites. Ron, also enjoyed the escargots and the Vol-au-vent. I had your Duck Cassoulet which was very tasty and the duck quite nice but was a bit disappointed in the lack of sausage. Lovely setting and kind, considerate servers who are efficient and knowledgeable. Excellent wines and a very good shrimp cocktail which seemed cooked to order. Shrimp were perfectly poached and well seasoned with a gazpacho like cocktail sauce. A refreshing difference from the overly firm freezing cold pre-prepared prawns you sometimes encounter at other restaurants. A solid frisée salad. Mussels and frites were marred by excessive tiny broken shells in the broth which was otherwise a nicely balanced blend of tomato, fennel, wine and thyme. Mussels were very small and the deep bowl they are served in makes it rather awkward to enjoy. Both orders of frites arrived cold, hard, and broken into tiny pieces and the steak (filet) while cooked medium as requested was rather tough. Perhaps we ordered wrong as other guests seemed to be enjoying their meals. I left disappointed that bistro standards fell so short.

Upon a trusted recommendation, we ventured to Alouette for their dinner service while in Vancouver, and the experience was nothing short of delightful. The restaurant s decor is a feast for the eyes, setting a tone of romance and elegance that enhances the dining experience. From the moment we were seated, the service stood out as exemplary. Our server, attentive and considerate, ensured every aspect of our meal was perfect. He even went above and beyond to craft a personalized mocktail based on a few ingredients I mentioned liking, a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the evening. Our culinary journey began with a selection of appetizers: escargot, bone marrow, and French onion soup. The escargot was tender and flavorful, a classic done right. The French onion soup, with its rich broth and perfectly caramelized onions, was one of the highlights of the night, warming and comforting with each spoonful. The bone marrow, however, fell a bit short. While the flavor was there, the bread accompaniment was too dry, and one of the bones was disappointingly sparse in marrow. For the main course, we chose the bouillabaisse and the lamb rack. The bouillabaisse was a triumph, brimming with fresh seafood in a fragrant, flavorful broth that transported us straight to the coast of Provence. The lamb rack, though cooked slightly over our preferred doneness, still delivered a deliciously savory experience, tender and well-seasoned. We concluded our meal with a classic crème brûlée. It was executed to perfection, with a satisfyingly crisp caramelized top giving way to a creamy, velvety custard beneath. It was the perfect sweet note to end on. Overall, our dining experience at Alouette was memorable and enjoyable, with only a few minor missteps. We left with satisfied palates and a desire to return on our next visit to Vancouver. Thank you, Alouette, for contributing to our unforgettable evening in this beautiful city!

We decided to go to Alouette for our final dinner in Vancouver and what a great decision that was! Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. We began our meal with the baked Brie. It was superb. The flavors of the Brie, maple syrup, bacon and pear were tantalizing on our taste buds. Our two main courses were the vol au vent and steak frites. Both were presented well and taste amazing. Would highly recommend. Great quality for the price! Vegetarian options: I had the vol au vent filled with mushrooms, fennel and mascarpone. It was excellent

Chose this location to entertain out of town guests based on location and menu. All dishes (Coq au Vin, cassoulet, steak frites), including desserts (crepes Suzette), were truly outstanding. Nice second floor table overlooking the main dining area. Neg: service. When asked if there were specials, told there are NEVER specials.

I just stumbled unto this place as I was walking along downtown. The interior is very much pleasant and I am considering inviting friends and family here because the experience I had was very much superb. The escargot was exquisite! I can say this without exaggeration and it is definitely something worth having because it is now my standard for the dish. The taste of the Café de Paris was spot on. I love the way it complemented the texture and the taste of the escargot which did not have any unpleasant note at all. I was ecstatic at how the taste of the ingredients activated different parts of my palette. The sensation of tasting their mixture made my day. The waiter, Guillaume, was also very helpful and obsequious. His vigilance towards diners needs is most welcome and appreciated. It is clear to me that his standard of service and training set a high benchmark. It was a most pleasant experience for me to dine here and I will definitely be back for more. Thanks, Guillaume!

The foie gras was not seared as we expected. French onion soup was too sweet, the manager apologized and removed it from our bill. The salt shaker s bottom came off and spilled all over the table so they moved us promptly to a larger table. Service is great, atmosphere is good, a bit on the dark side. But the foods need to be improved.

So we our family went last night (7 of us) to celebrate our mum o0th birthday. So say I was blown away with fine details from staff is an understatement. Without asking they took us upstairs to private room to make it quieter and special. Our server Guillaume was truly beyond exceptional as were the others who helped ( forgive me for not acknowledging them as I did not get their names). He was so attentive, so understood the menu and wine menu inside and out with any hesitation. He made our 90 year mum feel like she was the only woman in the room and so special with a smile that lit up the room! Our mum was in heaven. We did have one plate sent back, but they made it right immediately and I have not one complaint about it and it came perfect and they also tooknit off the bill like professionals. In the end we end, we were all looking at the dessert menu and Guillaume came in with beautiful French plates and a brand new table setting of cutlery and whispered to me I have something special for you all......and he very thoughtfully bought out a huge board of one of each dessert with candles for our mother and sang happy birthday and did and tables side flame for her crepe suzzete! The manager Jose came in to check in we were happy and make everything right after the mistake and to apologize. Very professional and thoughtful. I will go over and over again because of this experience. Food was great. Thank you for making my mum so happy.

Our group of 6 visited for dinner. I previously went to the Toronto location and loved it so I was excited. The atmosphere was mediocre. Decor was unremarkable. They share washrooms with a hotel. The menu options were uninspired. The food was truly awful. Painfully bad across the board. Shrimp was freezer burnt, wine selections were low end, pasta was bland and served in a pool of liquid, steak was charred, frites were all broken into tiny bits, scallops were overcooked, hamburgers were undercooked, and the side truffle pasta was also bland and swimming in oily goo. The panisse was decent. The crepe, a french staple, was lumpy and undercooked. The service was good - professional and attentive. But when a restaurant bombs almost all dishes, they deserve a poor rating so diners are not disappointed, and we certainly were. The food at Alouette was among the worst Ive had, and it was $200 per person. Time for an overhaul folks.

We have had the pleasure of dining at Alouette several times now, each time being so well looked after by Samira. The food here is beyond delicious, and as far as we are concerned, there is only one restaurant in the whole of Canada to go to for the best meal you ve ever had: Alouette Bistro. Everything on the menu is delicious, however, we can t ever visit for breakfast without ordering the eggs Benedict, which is served on a warm croissant with delicious hollandaise sauce and crispy potatoes on the side. Close your eyes as you take a bite of a delicious French meal, close your eyes while you listen to the calming French background music and be transported to the Champs-Élysées! Thank you to Alouette and in particular, Samira, who always looks after us with such kindness, generosity and sincere happiness. The food, decor and ambiance is unbeatable, but Samira is the real reason we keep coming back! Merci beaucoup!

Follow up review: Thank you so much Krista for reaching out regarding our experience. Your sincerity, kindness and hospitality is deeply appreciated. You are amazing! Initial review: We enjoyed a nice lunch at alouette. Our server was friendly and polite. All the dishes we ordered were nicely presented and pretty tasty. I would have liked to give alouette four stars but unfortunately they totally dropped the ball on our special celebration. I spoke with alouette s front of house staff on Thursday and enquired about any special arrangements that could be made for our lunch. Front of house staff acknowledged over the phone that they have noted our request, she also acknowledged that she saw the notes I wrote when I made the online reservation. To my delight alouette s front of house staff mentioned they would provide a couple of glasses of bubbly as part of our celebration. Unfortunately this was not the case and I felt it was pointless to mention anything further. Being attentive to small details makes or breaks the experience for customers, especially when the restaurant was not busy at all during lunch time.

We had the bone marrow and french onion soup for appetizers, which was well done, the bone marrow was decently sized and delicious and the soup was also good. For entres, we had the lamb rack and duck confit. The duck confit was a little underwhelming, as even if it was made well the duck itself did not have much of an aroma. The lamb rack, however, was excellent; the first bite had me a little worried, as it was overcooked and a little chewy, but the rest of it was done perfectly (I asked for medium rare but it turned out closer to medium but it was perfect that way), it was juicy, a perfect layer of fat that melted in your mouth along with a tender piece of meat that was full of lamb flavor but not overwhelming so. I would recommend anyone to try their lamb rack, though I would be interested in their other menu items for I certainly will return again on my next visit to Vancouver.

Gem of a restaurant nestled in the boutique Le Soleil hotel right in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Atmosphere is warm and cozy. The dark wood, open kitchen and bar makes for a very inviting dining experience. It s a French bistro but I had their Le Burger. The description was too tempting, hand-cut brisket, raclette, dijonnaise, butter lettuce, caramelized onions, on a brioche bun. The patty was generously oversized, nicely seared crispy outside and juicy inside. A very nice French interpretation of an American classic. Highly recommended. My wife had the salad nicoise with pan-seared tuna which was a nice balance of flavours. Service was excellent. Our server Samira was very attentive. They finished off our lunch with a nicely presented off-the-menu birthday dessert. Overall a great place for a special meal or to entertain guests. I ll be back for sure. After a very long journey, we spent a very relaxing evening in the bistro. Very good food, fine wines and great cocktails. The breakfast in the bistro is very good, attentive service. Unfortunately, after my third visit to the restaurant, I have to downgrade the service: Ordered exactly the same cocktail (its called punsh) and got something completely different... Very annoying, we were really looking forward to it. But if the same drink is made completely differently at the bar on two days, something is wrong... But the food has always been great...

We made a reservation here to stop by before a Wanda Sykes show at the QE. My wife had eaten here before but it was my first time here. When you enter it seems like a small, intimate bistro. Once you look around and see the stairs on either side going up to the 2nd floor you realize it is actually much larger. The vast vaulted ceiling in the middle adds to the grandeur. So the atmosphere is great before you even try the food. The service provided by Michael and others was amazing! From bringing around menus to refilling water everyone was very attentive. They were out of the Baked Brie so we ordered Duck Poutine, Shrimps Provençal and Moules et Frites (Mussels & Fries) to share. The poutine was rich, creamy and the fries crispy and nicely seasoned. The lemon, butter & garlic sauce with the shrimp was amazing and I soaked up much as I could with the bread. The mussels tasted wonderful in their sauce as did the crispy fries. All the food was delicious! My wife had the house rose to drink while I had their cocktail special. It was similar to a French 75 but perhaps with grapefruit instead of lemon juice. It was very refreshing. For dessert we had a Decadent Hot Chocolate. It had wonderful whipped cream, chocolate flakes on top of the melted dark chocolate which was very creamy. There was a raspberry & chocolate macaron and biscotti to dip in the hot chocolate. It was incredible and a perfect way to finish off the meal! We ll be back! Parking: There is paid street parking and paid garage parking options nearby. We re a 15 minute bus ride from downtown so we took that option instead.

SERVICE here IS 1000% TERRIBLE and I think my sister and I have been RACIALLY PROFILED by this particular server on the 29th February 2024 at 3Pm (We went for happy hour). I don t know her name but she s an older white lady with white/blonde hair. The food was great but this lady didn t even give us the chance to enjoy it. She came back to our table for almost 10 TIMES to ask if everything is okay. Every time we take a bite she s at the table asking if we like it or is at the distance looking at us. No privacy at all and I noticed she was NOT doing the same to other clients. It was clear that she particularly targeted us. At the end when it was time to pay, she brought the tab and stood right on me staring while I was looking for my card. I was so uncomfortable which made me struggle to find my card so I just paid in cash. I ve been to a numerous restaurants in Vancouver and this was BY FAR THE WORSE EXPERIENCE I VE EVER HAD.

Was here for two of my friends birthdays. My steak was overdone, it took 20 minutes to get someone to get a chair for our friend, and they forgot my Old Fashioned order (I never bothered re-ordering it as my friend ordered the same and it was watery and as he put it, tasted like they tipped a bottle of bitters in it). However, full credit to management. When we brought up these concerns, they were very gracious and thanked us for the feedback, then comped dessert. It was quite crowded and Id never seen Alouette that full so maybe they were just understaffed that evening, but it was just one thing after another. So, just okay. Not worth it at that price point.

At this restaurant upstairs, there are 2 tables like balcony seat in very narrow area at corner and me and husband were made to sit there. Other table very end was still not used which is worse (by the window in very dark spot) so I was very unhappy to eat there since I could see downstairs in my sight and didn t feel safe and table was extremely small like for one person at cafe. I mentioned it was for my birthday and I felt like discriminated like cafe in Paris. On the other hand, server was polite and friendly though he didn t fill water until we asked but that s fine. Escargot was extremely delicious and rack of lamb was a lot, huge! so we became so full and couldn t order dessert. Seared foie fras was tiny but tasty as well. We enjoyed the food but probably won t go back.

IS THAT A FIDDLEHEAD???? Yes. Yes it is. And there is the fennel, and the corn, and thin-as-hell bacon. It s all there. In a DELICATE broth. So delicate it is the opposite of all caps. But it wouldn t read the same. Get a spoon. What IS that? Toasted quinoa?!!!! I think? I ve had puffed quinoa, but this deep brown dark toasted little nugget adds ALL the smokey. So smokey these tiny nuggies. Delicious. I still can t figure out the corn. In season they do the dish with halibut, I hear. Halibut would be so good. The Ling Cod adds a salty, briney, fishiness that halibut lacks, so you taste the cod. Halibut would be flaky, buttery, gentle goodness. I d eat it. Just eat it. Ling Cod at Alouette. I need to remember to take photos BEFORE I devour the dish. Vegetarian options: Of course. Kid-friendliness: No. Your kids will not like it here and there isn t room for my 3 yr old to hang out.
