Has a strange smell. Chalk dust on some of the seating. Long delay before mains came out.

My experience happened at the smaller location but want to everyone aware of the owners behavior. I have a working service dog and have been many times, good food and friendly service. On a recent occasion I was denied access because of my service animal. I was told the individual denying access was the owner. I explained this was a direct violation of BC code and he was uninterested. I m filing a formal complaint for discrimination and can no longer recommend.

Very disappointed in this place. Came for my dad s birthday and was very disappointed by the service we received. They first sat us at a booth and came to pour our waters. Two minutes later we are told to move and that there s a reservation at this table when there were multiple booths and tables available. Keep in mind on the website they say no reservations, first come first serve .We move to a table by the window and we mention it s his birthday. No happy birthday. Nothing. Very rude and very cold staff. When we go to order drinks they say they cannot make a caesar due to it only being on the brunch menu and the bar would be very unhappy to make it? What? It s a bar? Why is making a Caesar not smth they can do at a bar ..? We mention it s my dad s birthday and he was really excited to have one of their Caesar s and he completely dismissed us and continues to say it would make them unhappy. We decided to just leave and take our service somewhere else where we will be more accommodated and have a good birthday instead of dismissed. We will not be coming back.

We loved Sunday brunch. The food is tasty with a nice presentation. Well come back again.

We had brunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon and it was delicious and the service was excellent. A great atmosphere in this restaurant. You can tell they are all there to make it a great experience. Ive been here a few times in the last year and I really want to love this place! But its a hit or miss each time in terms of service and food. The portions are quite small. Last time we went for brunch, the food took so long (pretty sure they forgot our order). I was disappointed with the duck confit salad, which had only tiny bits of duck, was all frisee and drenched in sauce. The buckwheat waffle is my favourite, and tasty, but that dish (with cheese, egg, ham) was served cold. The hot drinks are delightful and come with a small cookie. The creme brûlée is also good. Service could be improved; apart from one waiter, I dont feel particularly welcome there. One time, we told our waiter that they got our drink order wrong. He insisted that it was the correct drink and that it was made like that. After asking him again, he finally took it back and admitted that it was the wrong drink... and half-heartedly said sorry.

Excellent quality and unique dishes. Also loved the selection of authentic French drinks. Nice atmosphere.

Came in on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. Theres a waitlist. I asked if theyll need my name, phone number or something. Was told to just wait outside while waiting for a table. Another group came in, saw them asking for a name and was written down in a board for the next table. I finally asked why I wasnt asked for my name and was just told to wait outside. Server didnt apologize and just wrote my name down on the board. Finally got inside after 32 minutes, placed our orders and food came after 57 minutes and 35 seconds (yup, always sets a timer and took a long time) the burger and the pork belly was good except the steak with a weird gravy sauce. I dont know how long the foods been sitting on the counter, but it was cold. But you know whats colder? The servers, the atmosphere. Reviews about the service and the servers are pretty accurate.

The daily soup is smooth and full of flavors. The outside of the steak is crispy and soft inside. I recommend serving the salad and steak with different plates so the steak can serve with a hot plate.

When I ordered, the server asked me if I needed milk (because I ordered americano), so I said yes, but he didnt give it to me. Then I asked again, but he said okay and didnt give it to me until the end. And we were still eating, and the same server asked us three times if we had finished eating, even though we had half the food left. It was my first weird experience(there was no waiting list) It was a very inconvenient service. But I paid tip cause I liked coffee and the desert. Its for the kitchen

Came here today for brunch. Food was very salty and the service was not that great.. we had to keep calling the waiter for several things instead of him coming to ask if we needed anything. Called him over for condiment, called him again to order a beverage, and then called him again to get the bill.. I love to support French businesses as it reminds me of back home (Montreal) but not sure I ll be back here

Great place for a nicer meal. The steak was perfect and the duaphne potatoes melted in my mouth. The duck was also excellently prepared.

Discovered this place last week. Staff are amazing and food is great. The one off putting thing was when I had a brief interaction with the manager. It s funny how he was busy training his servers to please the clientele and yet somehow he seemed to have the most abrasive attitude with me as a customer. I will give him a second chance but honestly I don t want to have any interaction with him again. Regardless I will return for the fantastic food and all the other servers who were top notch.

Eggs were overcooked and they told us that s not how they re meant to be but too many customers complained about runny eggs who complains about runny eggs? Sounds like a gaslight to me

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The staff were rude and unfriendly. To make things worse, I found a hair in my food. The bad service and the hair made the experience even worse. I wont be coming back and wouldnt recommend this place to anyone

I adore coming here. They only hire French servers and cooks which means the service is spicy and the food is incredible it honestly feels like having brunch or dinner in Paris.

Wife and I enjoyed my Birthday Dinner Date here. The French bistro delivered an exceptional experience with its fresh, seasonal dishes prepared to perfection. The veal was outstanding, and the foie gras, simple yet flawless, showcased the kitchens confidence and expertise. Every flavor was precisely balanced, and the service was just right a truly memorable dining experience!

I did not have a good experience and I do not recommend this restaurant. We were looking for the best hamburger and the review of this restaurant was very good. We went to this restaurant and ordered a hamburger. The hamburgers were pink and uncooked and very greasy and salty. The fried onions full of oil on the greasy undercooked burger was inedible.

Wife and I went there for a drink and dessert. The staff were so helpful and nice, The wife got a strawberry tart and a glass of port wine. She was happy with everything, I got a Belgian beer which was great and loved the vibe of the place. Its somewhere you need to go if you are into French style places.

Stopped in here to get out of the heat during the Khatsahlano street party. I didnt get any food, so I cant comment on that. I can comment that the drinks and service are impeccable though! The food did look and smell good though! Sat at the bar and ordered a few drinks. I asked them for a drink they dont normally make, they listened to how I like it and made it perfectly. Good banter with the staff while sitting there. Overall, standup place with a great staff. Ill come back to try the food next time!

They definitely have to work on their customer service, Iv never had such a terrible experience. The waiter ( Jerome) was so rude we ignored his rudeness but after he started moving chairs behind me and hit my back , I said you couldve asked me to move or be careful! Hes response was No I didnt ! Didnt even apologize. Anyway I dont recommend this place if you want a nice and enjoyable experience:)

Wonderful place for brunch. We ve been here several times and have enjoyed it each time. The two window seats also have wonderful people watching along 4th. We especially recommend the omelettes!

If you are looking for a French culinary experience, you are in the right place, the menu is simple but qualitative with the classics of Parisian bistros. The food is excellent (get the foie gras, its incredible) and the prices are affordable. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and truly reminiscent of the classic bistros of Paris with the possibility of eating on the terrace. The service is very good with very courteous and friendly waiters. I highly recommend

Had brunch at this restaurant, thought this is gonna be good but turns out to be very disappointing. Portion is ridiculously small and the quality is not even up to standard. Will never come back again. The restaurant has almost no customers but the server never paid attention to even bother looking at our table for placing order or getting the bill.. hows it possible to have 4.5 rating.. sometimes Google review can be deceiving.

Yummy! If anyone has ever visited France and miss the food and the atmosphere - this is the place to come. It is so quaint, lovely service, authentic and delicious food (ps:and desserts). Au Comptoir has been in my list of places to try for a very long time. Finally made it out to this French bistro for lunch recently. First off... a bit of production value for the hot chocolate as they pour and mix the chocolate out for you. While I liked it, it didnt stay hot very long so probably best enjoyed quickly instead of trying to savour it slowly. Well made croque madame... not overly heavy and the salad helps to lighten the dish. The assiette au comptoir has soft shirred eggs cocotte (baked), house made sausage, bacon, duck fat and thyme potato rosti. Loved the bacon and rosti.

One of Vancouvers culinary gems, this French restaurant captivates with its refined flavors and impeccable presentation, making it one of my personal favorites.

I moved out from the neighborhood almost a year ago but still love to visit them once in a while. If you love the French bistros vibe, you will definitely love Au Comptoir.

This place is a good reason to come to Kits sometimes. Soft steak with blue cheese sauce was excellent. Duck salad was great as well.

Dont get lured by outdated menu pictures. The prices have been jacked up by a lot (40$+ for a main). Had the cassoulet: Beans were undercooked and almost crunchy whereas they should melt in your mouth, and the portion was too small. My friend had the entrecôte frites for 55$. The entrecôte must have been 200g at most. It was super thin. They charge 9$ for a bottle of sparkling water. This is also the kind of place which has the audacity to set 18% as the minimum for tips. Strongly recommend to avoid. There are definitely better options in Vancouver... And for all price ranges.

The welcome, the service, as well as the food is truly a true immersion in a Parisian brasserie. If conditions permit, taking a table out front on the street improves the experience. (I was in Paris during my time there this afternoon for a late sunny lunch at the terrace!) The manager and Sasha are incredibly welcoming. If you are passing through Vancouver, stop at Kits (the flank steak with Roquefort sauce is super good )

Wanted to return for a meal for my nephews birthday after a very pleasant meal a few years ago. Arrived for lunch but they wouldn t seat me at a table until everyone was present despite my saying he was just parking the car. Told me to wait outside in the cold for an approx 20 min wait time. When we were all together we once again entered and still they wouldn t seat us saying the table they had had avail for three they split into tables for two and there would be another 20-25 min wait time!!! No reservations is fine but at least let people sit. Order an appie and drink while they wait for friends or family to park and join. Won t be back again. The staff was very unaccommodating and snobby to deal with.

are you vitamin butter deficient? are you feeling down and low? what you need is a good dose of fresh food prepared well with a healthy dose of vitamin butter everything was delicious but the salmon was particularly perfect highly recommend ordered 3 mains + 1 side of fries (over salted) + 1 mushroom side 3 adults totally stuffed to bursting no room for appetizers or dessert Kid-friendliness: two families brought small kids and they were enjoying themselves

Always great and memorable

Came here during lunch with coworkers just after Christmas. No wait time for us coming at 12pm. Food order though did take a bit longer, around 20-25 min or so. And their reason being one of my coworkers ordered a medium steak. Interesting answer right? I ordered a duck confit and it s good but lacking some flavour as expected for a high end restaurant. I believe it s in the sauce that s lacking some red wine body to it. We also ordered dessert. A crème brûlée and a chocolat mousse, as well as couple cappuccino. Presentation is great but mousse is a bit coarse in taste. Crème brûlée is just perfect. So overall it s worth trying just with some minor adjustments it would have been a great visit.

Excellent food flavours and drinks. The missing atmosphere star is because I found the restaurant to be quite loud, but I also appreciate how this adds to the mileu. Perhaps not the place for a quiet date. The staff were fun, funny, prompt and helpful. Looking forward to my next visit.

The two of us arrived at a busy time, but it was not a long wait and definitely worth waiting for. It was my first time there, but my brunch companion had been several times. She had her favourite omelette and I had the best burger I think I ve ever had. Simple/classic patty made with obviously high quality meat. The bun was a delicious little brioche cloud that soaked up all the juicy goodness from the meat. The fries were perfection. Fresh and crispy. The service was quick and efficient, but also charming and friendly. Definitely finding an occasion to go back for dinner.

If youre very into French food specifically, youd probably be a lot more keen on this place than I was. The brunch was just ok for me. They are very committed to the illusion of being in a Parisian cafe, all the front of house staff are French. They also dont offer non-dairy milk alternatives for coffee bevvys. The fries were really good.

Nice atmosphere, and great knowledgeable service. You can tell the staff care about representing the food as best they can, and make sure to recommend the best accompanying wine. Foie gras and the wagu beef tartar were excellent. It s worth noting that the foie gras was particularly great, both in value and authenticity (it s not just a terrine that they call a foie gras - it s actually foie gras).

Soup of the day was recommended. Always ordered the foie gras and beef tartare here. Atmosphere was very lively. Waiters are attentive. Was seated immediately since they don t do any reservations. We got lucky!

Authentic French food in Vancouver

Pretentious. Went in for croissants. They told us they only made some to fill orders for other restaurants and that none were ready for customers. We leave. Five minutes later we see one of the regular customers who always sits outside with his dogs. He is somehow able to get a croissant which he enjoys outside. Cool.

The best French restaurant you can find in Vancouver. Once you are there, you feel like in France, especially in a brasserie from Paris. Au Comptoir is not only reflecting a nice French vintage look by its interior design but offers also a fantastic menu. At your first bite, your palate will feel an explosion of flavors like a firework in your mouth. Every time I go there, I close my eyes in tasting the first bite of my dish. This makes me travel in time, bringing me back to my grandmother and her delicious food. Thanks to Maxime, Julien and their team for creating magic.

Super 10/10 authentic French food

Absolutely fantastic food and superb service, I have loved the food every time I have been here. The restaurant is a bit cramped if it is busy and can feel a bit tight between the tables.

Kitsilano has been a low-key French restaurant for more than ten years A small, very cozy French restaurant. The waiters are very handsome Just like the waiters in Chinese restaurants who speak Chinese better than English, they are French Canadians The manager introduced and recommended to us very gentlemanly Menu, I feel like when the epidemic is over, I will come back and visit various old places I don t want to go overboard. One of the best meals Ive ever had.

Had a lovely weekend lunch at one of my favorite bristro in Vancouver! It has a relaxing atmosphere with attentive service and good food with reasonable price. The egg cocotte - French way of slow baking egg in a water bath with cream and cheese, is very soft and tasty. It paired with the pork and leek sausage which has lots of flavor yet does not feel greasy at all. The bacon and duck fat thyme potato rosti provide texture contrast in the dish. Next time I would like to try the crispy fried duck wings which look delicious on the table next to us.

Been meaning to check this place out for a while now, but was putting it off due to not being able to make reservations for dinner. But finally decided to just go for it by heading there a bit early before the dinner rush. We got there at around 6:15 and it was already filling up. By 7:00pm, people lining up were getting turned away (so I do suggest coming early if you want to get a spot). Now onto the food... We started off with 2 appetizers. The beef tartare and prawns served in between 2 puff pastries. Out of the 2, the tartare was my favourite. So much so that we ended up putting in a second order. Ive never tried tartare with fried bread but surprisingly, it was delicious. All the flavours blended perfectly together. Especially with the whipped horseradish. My main course (Bavette Valoyau) was out of this world. Usually, the steaks I get are served with mashed potatoes, but THESE potatoes (pommes daupines) are insane. Biting into them, theyre warm and soft. Probably softest potatos Ive ever had served up in a restaurant. Next time, will be back for brunch!

Came here for a late brunch. Wasn t sure what to get so opted for a burger. That was an amazing juicy and rich burger, surprised at how good it was! Great friendly service as well.

Had the duck and the cod, it was underwhelming. The fish was bland, the duck was fine but the sides were a bit of a joke, basically some raw carrots that still had brown on the exteriors. The value for the price is not there.

If youre wondering where the best French restaurant in Canada is, look no further, its in Vancouver. Au counter is a superb restaurant in the Kitsilano district with a real French team. The price is very reasonable given the quality of the products and dishes, youd think you were in France! Speaking of dishes, I ordered a cheese omelette. The first bite of it reminded me of the Parisian brasseries of the early 20th century. One bite and all of Paris and French gastronomy appeared before my eyes. Its as if Paul Bocuse was feeding you with a spoon, its amazing! Next to me, Antoine opted for the plate at the counter. He finished his dish faster than his beer, to tell you the feat. Same for his dessert, he didnt leave a crumb on the plate. I think he never had the opportunity to taste this kind of dish in his mountains where their greatest pride is having 3G. The bartender gave him very good advice in offering him this dish worthy of the greatest restaurants in the country of the language of Molière, we must thank him for that. Regarding my dessert, I let myself be carried away by the chocolate fondant. The latter was exquisite, it warmed my heart and cooled my veins like ice #zoo In short, this meal was an unforgettable experience that we will not soon forget. It would be exceptional to open the same restaurant in Toronto, so that Canadians could taste real dishes at least once in their lives!

The staff was not friendly and a lot of attitude. There was a couples a ahead of me. After he seated them, he did not acknowledged me. He then proceeded to do some serving, answered phone call. While I patience stood at the door and hoping to be seen. After we got seated and water severed. No one came over to introduce themselves nor took orders over 25mins. We flagged down the same staff and I told him we have been waiting for a long time. Where is our server and if we could place the order with him. His response was yes you can order with me. As you can see we are busy. Note, the place was only half filled. We ordered a burger, and guess what he had to say Are you in a hurry, it will take a long time?! I was flabbergasted.

Yes, I went to a French restaurant and ordered a burger... but they put foie gras on top so Im not sorry LOL. Delicious! The service was great and in the authentic French style, because the staff is actually French. They even had French gin (Citadelle) for my martini! Great experience, highly recommended.

I was mad in love with my white onion soup. Everything was good too but my soup stood out the most.

Our meal was absolutely delicious. We started with Hugo Spritzes, I had a Guafre Saumon, and we ended with Chocolat Chaud. Sitting on the sidewalk, café style, was lovely and evoked memories of our recent trip to Paris.

I just love that place!!!! Food is incredible, service is great. We usually sit at the bar, the best place in my eyes!

I dined here end of may so a little late but absolutely had to leave a review. This place is absolutely amazing. We arrived 5 of us and even tho they didn t really have a table for us they allowed us to squeeze into a booth (which we were happy to do). Right from the beginning I loved everything, from the servers, atmosphere, food, desert cocktails. I have been to many restaurants in Europe especially in France and I can say this is the absolute closest I have ever found. The food is absolutely incredible, the duck was immaculate, cooked perfectly, even the presentation was on point and the lava cake is absolutely indescribable. The service was some of the best I experienced in Vancouver, without a doubt. Truly this is an ABSOLUTE must if you are anywhere close to this place in Vancouver. I was already reading about this long before my travels to Kits beach and they absolutely blew me away. Everyone here is doing an amazing job. I work in the industry and if you like good food/cocktails and real service atmosphere this is where you want to be.

Drinks are phenomenal

Good food, bad service. Cocktails are subpar. My cocktail was made extreeemely sweet. I asked the bartender to top it off with something to dilute it and I was told well no, this is just how we do it. Our friend who joined later never got service/was never approached to place an order. Never again.

It was my first time to visit. Everything was perfect. I ordered a burger, it was tasty, and the service was good as well.

Worst service ever!

Everything here is perfect! People, you need to eat here. Food is so so so tasty. I am really picky about food and if I dont like it I dont eat it all, but here I eat everything! Chef always smiles. Service is great, no fake politeness-so natural. I dont have pics because I was busy eating... I tried gaufres au saumon, cake baba au ruhm and home made hot chocolate which they make in front of you. Try to say orders in French, they are happy to hear you try.

We so enjoyed this delightful place. We enjoyed. a late brunch by the window. Our server was charming and helpful. Our food was delicious. My cafe crème was superb. Just a little afternoon feeling French and spoiled.

Amazing smoked salmon waffle. And the coffee!

Good vibes, good food, nice variety of drinks

Very quickly became one of my favourite places. Atmosphere makes for a great date spot for the wife and I. Been there 5 times now and always love it. The food is delicious, everything Ive had from the bavette with the dauphinoise potatoes (drooling) to the pheasant, even just their whipped butter is superior. I could go there just for their wine, cheese and salume platters. Cant say enough good things!

It was pretty bland

Felt very unwelcome the second me and my partner walked through the door. Even when I opened the door to come inside, one of the servers just walked through it before us without even saying thank you or acknowledging us. Then we waited a while to be seated or even be talked to even though the servers saw us. When we were finally assigned a table, the male waiter was acting very rushed and spilled water all over the table and the menu, and didn t even say sorry or care to clean it. He also served my partner s glass less than halfway through. We ended up leaving before ordering as we were made to feel unwelcome. Really, really, rude service and i m surprised it has such great reviews, it makes me think it was personal. Will never come back.

You feel like youre in Paris (except with much better service!) What can I say, been here twice and the food is amazing, great care and attention in all aspects. Mon resto français préféré à Vancouver !

A little taste of France in Kitsilano. The ambiance is dim and cozy while the dishes are all delicious. Great service by staff.

Various dishes are solid but service can be slow.

I came here for brunch and ordered the Saucisse et légumes. It was a heavier brunch than usual but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was cooked well and combined together perfectly. The flavours and juices of the pork belly were absorbed by the bed of lentils; combining this with the broken egg yolk of the poached eggs really brought everything together in the most delicious way. I will definitely be back to try more in the future.
