Lively bistro for classic French dishes like duck confit & steak frites, plus local & Gallic wines.
This is one of my absolute favorite spots! Can never go wrong with this place! Menu is always on points, servers are super friendly and the ambience is perfect! I highly recommend if you’re looking for a treat spot!
Amazing restaurant with phenomenal food and service. Exactly like the wonderful hole-in-the-wall restaurants you find in France. It is a very european dining experience so I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re in a rush— take your time and really enjoy the food/drinks :) Our server, Bruno, was so warm and kind. I will definitely be back next time i’m missing France!
This was my first time visiting this restaurant, as it came highly recommended by a friend. However, my experience was extremely disappointing. There was a 50-minute gap between my appetizer and main course. The worst part was the highly recommended steak and fries dish. The portion of the steak I received was drastically smaller than what I had seen in pictures—my steak only covered about less than a quarter of the plate, and the rest was just a huge pile of fries. I brought my girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday, and the entire experience left me feeling embarrassed. This is the first time I've ever left a negative review on Google Maps, and I will never come back or recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Awesome food and friendly service. Pear salad was a refreshing gem, and squid was perfectly tender. Onion soup was rich and comforting. Mains were perfectly seasoned.
I had to pleasure of visiting Les Faux Bourgeois twice in a month. The first time for an anniversary dinner and the second for a friend's birthday dinner. Both times, the food and service were spectacular. I'd always be happy to go back again!
I’ll give 10 stars if I could. Reservation is recommended. Onion soup is heavenly delicious. Beef tartare is also delightful. The entree duck breast is soooooo tender. Creme brûlée is good, but nothing special. We just finished the food and wanted to go back again the next day. That’s how delicious they are.
My partner and I had a lovely Tuesday night dinner here for our anniversary. Bruno was absolutely amazing as our server for the duration of our stay -- very kind, funny, and personable. I had the duck while my partner had the steak frites, and they were both succulent and flavourful. French is my favourite cuisine, and I'll be honest when I say that this is my favourite French restaurant that I've been to (I used to live in Toronto, I just moved here, and this tops everywhere I've eaten there). 10/10 will come again. xx Sade
Came here for an anniversary - reserved online, and staff was able to accommodate a special request to allow for more table space due to an injury - much appreciated. Food was delicious with great service. While it's hard to go wrong with any of the menu choices, the onion soup and the duck confit stood out in particular as highlights for the night.
The moment you walk in, you can feel the vibe. It s cozy, warm and filled with ambience. It was really busy so we didn t get service right away but Bruno made that up. He s really friendly, explained the menu and their daily specials and offer some of his personal favorites. We ordered the onion soup, cheese & charcuterie plate, hanger steak and mushroom risotto. I would say, aside from the charcuterie, everything else was very good!!
Came here for our anniversary and really loved the food and ambiance! The mulled wine was delicious and comforting. A great spot for an intimate date night!
Highly recommend Les Faux Bourgeois. Excellent atmosphere, food and service. Bruno made the night very enjoyable. Will definitely return.
It s a favourite it s especially nice to sit at the bar where Chris (bartender) adds to the relaxed and warm vibe.
Never disappoints. Great food and service.
We made a reservation over the phone several weeks ahead for our staff Christmas dinner. Being in the same neighbourhood we like to support fellow businesses. Upon arriving we were told there was no reservation made for us. No apology, no empathy just told that the protocol wasnt followed as they did not receive a confirmation for the reservation. We were never sent a confirmation to reply to. When I called to book the staff dinner I spoke to the same person on 2 occasions that day. The first was to find out if there was a set dinner menu or if we would be ordering off the regular menu and to inquire what the corking fee would be to bring in our own wine (was told $30 per bottle corking fee). The second conversation was to confirm that we wanted book for 12 people & that we would be bring our own wine. I was told we would be seated in the café side of the restaurant as we had more than 10 people in our party. The night of our dinner we were made to feel as if we were in the wrong as the hosts here know to follow the protocol & they would have sent the reservation confirmation. The manager was quite indignant, unapologetic & down right rude. We will make sure to share this experience with all of our clientele as many of them also reside in this neighbourhood & also like to support our local businesses.
The featured mussels main course is excellent . The friendly service and cozy atmosphere are surely appreciated as well.
Super cute spot. Food was amazing and service was great.
Best French spot in town! My girl and I had a great time. Bruno, our server, was great and friendly. Highly recommend!
At Les Faux Bourrgeois, the atmosphere, its like going back to a small French town and enjoying an amazing dinner. The wine, service, and price are spot on.
I hate leaving a review because this is my favourite french restaurant in Vancouver and I dont want to be out of a table! The food here is exceptional. Some of my usual favourites include the paté, grilled squid, tartare, escargots, and the steak frites. The service is also always excellent and they do their best to accommodate any request you may have.
Tonight was my first dine in experience at Les Faux Bourgeois, and I have to say that everything was amazing. I sat at the bar and had a great chat with one of the regular, who told me he comes here multiple times a week, for the great ambiance, food and staff. Speaking of great staff, I want to personally thank Valentin, my server, who I got to speak french with, and was so kind, efficient and professional throughout the evening. I also want to thank David and Andreas, for giving me the chance to have the best dining experience I had in a while. It is the PERFECT ambiance for a date, a friend gathering or if you want to do like me, come sit at the bar (no reservation needed) and enjoy the conversations with other customers or your favourite bartender! Thanks guys, I will be coming back here on my next date !
Had a delicious seafood mix in tomato broth. Would go again
Although the atmosphere of the restaurant and the service that Bruno provided us was good, the food left me somewhat disappointed as it did not meet my expectations. I was in France and expected to find similarity in flavors, but I found something very different despite being a French restaurant.
I really wanted to have a great evening here and I will preface this review by saying the food was the standout. However, our service experience left much to be desired. When we arrived, our table was reserved right next to the host stand. Not a bad spot but an awkward one as instead being shown to the table, the host merely motioned leaving us to seat ourselves. If this was all, it would have been forgotten about but it was our server who plummeted the atmosphere of the evening. After dropping off menus, we didn t see him for a drink order for over 20 minutes. At this point we looked around and while most tables were full, they were two-tops and there were at least four servers on the floor plus a bartender. The room isn t huge so we could see our server floating around, stutter-stepping as he went. He might have been new, I don t know, but after coming for a drink order it was long enough for us to notice he hadn t been back to the POS and the bartender hadn t started on drinks (a glass of wine and an Old Fashioned). They were delivered as ordered, followed by bread with the server dropping the butter on my wife s back. Eventually, we put in our orders for the charcuterie to share and a couple of the seafood dishes. When the charcuterie came there was no description about what kinds of meats or cheeses or anything were on the plate. Just a Here s the charcuterie and then the server waking away. Fortunately, we don t have any allergies or immense dislikes but, again, this dropped the atmosphere of the evening. It was like being served at a cafeteria and not a very highly recommended sit-down restaurant. Mains arrived more than an hour after we initially sat down. By this point, I shouldn t have been checking my watch as often as I was to note these times. The lack of flow with which regular service goes meant we couldn t settle into our evening as there was this looming sense we had been forgotten about. When the mains arrived, they were delicious. The portions were generous and went far beyond what I could make at home. But if I just wanted good food, I could ve ordered in. Finally, after having to get our servers attention to get another drink, we were given dessert menus. We were out celebrating that night and when dessert arrived was the first mention by anyone on staff of our occasion. By that point, it was like putting up chicken wire to stop a mudslide. The desert was tasty, nevertheless, and by the end of the meal neither of us felt bloated. We had to ask for the bill and left over two hours after we were originally sat. Again, if we re just talking about the food, this place was excellent. It clearly did well at being a French bistro with a menu that reflects the history and is made to a high quality. But when you spend the entire meal craning your neck wondering when the next part of the meal will come, feeling like you ve been abandoned, and then met with the minimum amount of interactivity, it sours what should be a savoury, warm, and homey night out. Perhaps if I lived in the area, I d give them another shot but given the prices of Ubers these days, it s unlikely we ll be back.
We asked for a birthday candle on our dessert plate over the phone and we did not get one. It was super disappointing and awkward to ask it again. The experience and the moment ruined my birthday.
I love this place. The vibes are awesome, food was very good (I just didn t like the onion soup - otherwise I loved the salad, escargot, steak, and mushroom risotto) Best part was the service. Everyone that works here is so cool and so kind. Our server was Bruno and I hope I get him again when I show my husband this restaurant.
Food was incredible! I HIGHLY recommend the salmon. I will mention it might not be for you if youre going for a quiet date as the tables are tight so it was a little noisy. Great place for catching up with friends and making good memories.
We had a good time at nice French restaurant. We got the duck confit and the steak frites, which was a bit on the salty side. Still tasty, however. The french onion soup and escargot was solid as well. The creme brulee was good but nothing special. We would go again. Came out to about 100 per person, as we got a couple glasses of wine.
I was there before covid with my niece and nephews The waitress was very pretentious. She forced us to sit in a certain way. We didnt have a good time. The food was over priced and the taste was not that big of a deal. The waitress made the experience worse. I did love French cuisine but after that experience, I started to not care. I didnt do reviews back then. I started doing reviews of the places that gave me the strongest memories. Good or bad. What kind of response is this? Horrible response. Shows alot about the establishment. I wasnt wrong about my review. The person responding might be the waitress from before.
Vancouver is so lucky to have this restaurant. The food, the atmosphere, and the service (merci, Bruno!) was 10/10.
First introduction to beef tartar... Loved it. Duck confit and muscles were not bad, but I think Im just not into French food. Loved the vibes and the staff were great. Ill be back.
The baguette was the most tasty food at the restaurant. Duck confit was soooo dry and hard to bite. The duck confit supposed to be slow-cooked and the duck was submerged in duck oil, it should taste very tender with a sweetness of duck meat but nothing like that at this restaurant. Steak and frites are so-so that the fries were definitely overcooked and both the steak and the fried came out a bit cold. The waitress pretended to be friendly but not really. The salad came with the duck confit has goat cheese which I missed seeing it on the menu. I told the waitress that I can t eat goat cheese and whether I can exchange with mixed greens. She said she can ADD some mixed greens but not substitute it. I didn t want to pay extra for mixed greens. Hence, I left the whole goat cheese salad on the plate untouched. The waitress saw it without saying anything because she didn t care. A good restaurant will never let it happened. Obviously, the customer was unhappy about the food that they will leave the food on the plate untouched. The waitress simply didn t care. Overall, I am extremely unsatisfied with this restaurant about their food and service. I am not sure why they still get so high rating compared with other much better French bistro in town.
Bruno was our server and was excellent!! Very attentive and friendly
Loved this cute place, ambience , busy, amazing service from our host Bruno. Food was really good. Duck, grilled squid, loved the crème brûlée! For sure will be back! Merci!
Ive been to this restaurant a few times and thought the food and service were good. But after my recent visit for an early thanksgiving dinner I was very disappointed with the service. Our table ordered quite a bit of food and werent able to finish one of the main dishes the beef tartare. I asked the waiter for a take out box, to which he informed us that we can not take this dish home due to food safe reasons. I was very confused and insisted that Id still like to take it home & would refrigerate it right away, as it was an entire plate of beef tartare that we didnt eat. We are paying for this dish so we should be allowed to take the food we paid for. The least they could have done was take this dish off our bill. But unfortunately the waiter didnt do anything to mitigate the situation.
Unfortunately I need to update this review from five to 1 star Being one of my favorite restaurants in vancouver now has been removed from the list. It was SO disappointing. Im sure something happened during the pandemic, they must have changed the chef, the menu changed, the flavors changed drastically. We asked for one of our favorite starters and the lady said: oh yes many people ask for that one but we dont have it anymore (if many people ask for it why you took it out of the menu???) We had mushroom risotto, chicken, mussles, hanger steak and NONE was memorable as it used to be. The quality and the flavour dropped drastically. I cannot recommend this place anymore. I really hope they consider to get their old chef back Being a foodie, this was a huge loss!
It was my first time dining here and it was still a full house after 8:45pm but luckily there was a table and a lot of seating at the bar. Outstanding service, beautifully plated food, a generous sized side salad of fresh greens & microgreens with my main, a great drink selection and only sad I didnt have room for dessert. I never write reviews but I really loved the energy the owner has put into this place! I will definitely be back!!
Everything here is amazing. The steak frites, the salmon, the Tartar even the salad that comes with the steak is unreal. I ve had many dreams of their French onion soup which is the best I ve ever had. I once ate so much I couldn t even move and didn t regret it for a second. My favourite French restaurant in the city and a must try!!
The food was delicious and worth the price. Our server Bruno was also very attentive and friendly.
Lovely dinner tonight. Amazing food and great service. It was a birthday and dessert came with a candle. Amazing chocolate mousse. Seafood chowder dish was amazing. Steak frites awesome too.
Every dish is fabulous and tasty. Definitely a come back bistro.
Every place is finger licking good!
Mario was kind and attentive server and the food was real authentic french food. All the dishes were beautiful well done! Cant wait to go back to try other
Ive visited this restaurant five times and love their steak frites. The steak with the red wine jus was delicious, but my most recent experience had over-salted and stale fries.
I used to enjoy this place, but my experience last Friday was disappointing. We were seated on time for our 7:30 pm reservation, and the appetizers came out quickly. However, things took a turn for the worse after that. We waited over an hour, and the main courses still hadn t arrived. Looking around, I noticed that no other tables had their entrees either. I flagged down a server, who mentioned the kitchen was swamped, but I pointed out that no tables had been served their mains. He seemed irritated and explained that all the tables seated at 7:30 had orders for around 30 main dishes at once. About 10 minutes later, our meals finally arrived, but out of the four dishes, two were lukewarm. By then, we just wanted to finish dinner as it was nearing 9 pm. To make matters worse, my mom found the air inside stuffy and stepped outside for fresh air. She noticed that the coffee shop section, which had been empty when we arrived, now had a large party that had already finished dinner and was packing up leftovers. It became clear that the kitchen was prioritizing them. I understand running a restaurant is tough with this economy, but overbooking and poor service like this can hurt your business.
always consistent. free parking nearby. great staff. interesting location. prices decent.
First time here and pleasantly surprised. Service was very good and food delicious. Onion soup was a 5/5 and fantastic. Steak frited was one of best I have had in Vancouver. Fries were almost perfect and steak was tender and in a great wine jus. Wine prices are very reasonable and seem to be marked up by a set amount. They offered a very good selection of Pomerols on the menu. I was lucky finding parking in front and I suspect that parking might be an issue in this area. Creme Brule and lemon tart pie were a hit for dessert. The bread served could have been fresher and was the only disappointment.
Reminds me of the French cuisine we had at Michelin restaurant in Paris!! Bruno s service was 5 star and the dish recommended by him was amazing!!!
Awesome service and delicious food.
It was my first time to try french restaurant in Vancouver We took a bar seat as we didn t make a reservation The food was great and flavorful
Excellent selection of appetizers, mains and wines. If youre lucky youll be served by Bruno, a formidable host. Highly recommend for date nights, great pricing for quality of food & atmosphere.
Never gonna lie is really good place
Parking is tricky. I enjoyed the escargots, but one of them was not cleaned, the rest was great. The duck confit was too salty for me, but still good. Parking: Limited parking at front. May need to walk a couple of blocks
Because I delayed my reservation, I could only walk in, and it turned out that there were only outdoor seats. However, I felt that it was quite noisy indoors. Most of the food was delicious, and the service industry was very good. It is worth trying!
Very good French restaurant. As a French person, you feel a bit like home there with comforting dishes. My husband loved the onion soup au gratin. I really liked the mussels marinière which are very meaty. A real pleasure!
One of my favorite restaurants in the city is this cute and unassuming French bistro. The tiled floors and wood-paneled walls exude a cozy yet elegant feel. From the owner to the bartender to the waiter, the service is consistently excellent and contributes to the experience. However, my favorite aspect of the restaurant is undoubtedly their ability to provide gourmet food at reasonable price point. Come visit on a rainy night. Order steak frites with a bottle of red. You wont regret it.
An unassuming french bistro with dimly lit ambience around Kingsway area that intrigued me from the perpetual queue. Felt like food was alright (I found most of the dishes overly seasoned/sauce for some reason) but desserts were good. Pretty good cocktail and wine list with decent service. Overall not bad, but won t be in a hurry to return Mushroom Risotto ($26) 6/10 Pretty standard risotto with spinach, sage, and parmesan. Texture was okay but this dish was unusually salty. Tartare de Boeuf ($28) 7/10 Beef tartare with capers, mustard, shallot egg yolk served with fries. I like the fact that it was flavourful and fresh, however I felt like they went overboard with the seasonings would have liked to taste the beef more. Canard Confit ($31) 7.5/10 Probably the best dish out of ones we ordered. Really enjoyed the confit duck itself, my feedback would be that the warm salad (potatoes, arugula, goat cheese, and port jus) had too much dressing. Grilled Squid ($17) 4/10 Served with shaved fennel salad and sauce vierge. Not a fan, squid was really tough to eat and had chewy texture. Creme Brulee ($10) 7.5/10 Really good fresh creme brulee. Rich and decadent in all the right ways. Chocolate Mousse ($8) 7.5/10 Personally prefer this over the creme brulee as I am more a chocolate person. Not too sweet with strong chocolate flavour.
Haven t been here for several years, used to love it but honestly it s clearly under new ownership/ management, the food was mediocre at best. Probably won t be back unfortunately.
Very busy even on a Monday night. The steak and compound butter were great. But I had to skip the frites as they use canola oil to fry. They should really use tallow or something similar then it would be 5 star. Canola oil or other seed oils should not be used in any selfrespecting French restaurant.
Went there for birthday dinner, was very tasty and memorable for me. Standout dishes were boeuf tartare and duck confit
Excellent duck and risotto and the special tarte appetizer and crème brûlé!! Our server Bruno was very nice
Excellent french restaurant nestled in the suburbs of Vancouver. The grilled octopus was good but the endive salad was extremely tasty. The mushroom risotto was awesome and the streak frites with peppercorn was stand out. Get place for a date or to take out the family. Keep it up.
Went here for my one year anniversary and it didn t disappoint. The server Bruno provided incredible service and the food was amazing! The steak frites and french onion soup was the best!
Love coming here for a casual bite. I like it because the steak frites is affordable in comparison to other places. Plus you can get moules frites as well, which is our second go-to, and a creme brulee to end it off. Service is fantastic and friendly every time. Its a joy to be here.
I visited Les Faux Bourgeois with my partner. We very much enjoyed the no frills, but delicious, meals in this restaurant. We ordered the snails and pate to start which were both delicious and what I would consider perfectly decent-sized portions. We were actually quite full going into our dinner! For main, the Duck and Steak dishes were both very tasty and deliciously tender. Actually, the fries were the best I ve had in a very long time - perfectly cooked, crisp and just the right amount of thickness. The pepper sauce on the steak was gorgeous - very simple, as most of the dishes were, but perfect. I also loved the salad that came alongside the duck (which I believe contained goats cheese) it was creamy and very tasty. Dessert was a chocolate mousse (which wasn t the nicest I ve ever had but still good, can you really go wrong with chocolate mousse?) and a 10/10 crème brûlée (I am not a fan of crème brûlée but our server mentioned that it was elite and, to my surprise, the nicest I ve ever tasted. It was so creamy and I adored the custard-y texture). The service was excellent - everything arrived at exactly the right time. The wine was ok and a little overpriced in my opinion but this could be down to the type of wine we chose. We were extremely full and satisfied leaving this restaurant and will most certainly return to try other dishes they have to offer. I am docking one star for atmosphere as the restaurant is a little dated. We were sat beside some herb plants (basil etc) which smelled a little stale.
Incredible food, attentive and friendly staff, and overall just a wonderful experience.
My SO and I went here for our anniversary - weve both been going here at least once a year save for COVID times over the last decade and it was great to come back again and see that it remains excellent. Although the menu hasnt changed much, it doesnt feel stale. We branched out from our staples and grabbed the salad special and the squid, both were excellent, as was the faithful steak frites and the side ratatouille. Prices have gone up a bit, but its not the same insane inflation that other restaurants in town have hit -- and compared to similar quality spots, its very affordable (at the end of the night our bill was only slightly above when we go out for dinner and drinks at one of our local pubs, except we had a much more memorable experience).
This restaurant used to be so great, but I suppose they have new management and it shows. Service has gone downhill, and so has the food. Sadly I won t be back.
Was here for birthday with our daughter. The food here is always excellent but the staff is better. Our server, Shelby, always made sure our water glasses were filled and was lovely and engaging and knowledgable. She was fantastic! Hope to come back more often!
One of my favourite restaurants! Parking: There is street parking outside the restaurant but fills up quickly. Food : 5/5 |
Its been 3 times already visiting this place. Their steak never disappoints me
A great meal. I especially liked the kale and endive salad, Wonderful!
Our server Bruno was wonderful, he was really nice! We had the tartar, mussels and mushroom risotto! The mussels were delicious, we dipped the bread into the sauce and it was really good! The mushroom risotto was a little hard but the taste was good. The fries were too salty but their salad was really good!
We have good experience with bruno! and we are ready enjoy the food were recommend steak
Good food, very good!
Though I can not say I loved everything I find myself having trouble finding any fault in this restaurant. The service was unreal (thank you Bruno) the food had my girlfriend closing her eyes because the taste was worth cutting off a sense to focus on even closer. The atmosphere was good but my only complaint was I was seated with my back to a window which is just generally uncomfortable no matter where but that s hardly a real issue. The only thing I recommend is not driving to the location if you can help it as parking is the opposite of ample.
I lived in Paris for 20 years and I havent found a better rendition of a Parisian bistro in Vancouver. The food is absolutely fantastic and very fairly priced, to the point that I would be hard pressed to find better alternatives in Paris itself. Every dish Ive had the chance to try was great. I dont think you can go wrong with anything on the menu but I am very partial to the duck confit. The atmosphere and service are fabulous as well. It hits the sweet spot between casual and formal and you will feel comfortable bringing in a date or just reuniting with an old friend. And kudos to the waitresses and waiters, being ever helpful and attentive yet discreetly and tactfully so.
Food was just alright , environment old , service only delivery food that s it nothing service even I paid tips but totally not worth it. Don t know why so many good reviews
Our server Bruno was extremely friendly and was very attentive to all of our tables needs. It was some of the best french food I have tasted in vancouver. Steak frites cooked perfectly to order (most places overcook rare steak).
The food and ambiance was absolutely perfect. The hanger steak was cooked to perfection and their drinks were so delicious. Shoutout to Bruno who made our experience so much better by providing us with top notch service.
Nothing faux about this place! Perfection! And Bruno was fantastic!
@ bucket list
We rang Wednesday ,Thursday and Friday of last week ,each time to be told the place was full for Saturday night but come early(5.30) and sit at the bar and have dinner . We came across town only to be told you cant have dinner at the bar we are too full?? Maybe make the too full decision Wednesday not on the night and save us the cab fares ,there are heaps of great places to eat in Vancouver that we dont need our time wasted ? Having said that and in full disclosure I ate there with my daughter (obviously because we had a booking ) 2 weeks prior and it was wonderful food and service.
As a French person, I must say the food did not blow my mind. The beef tartare had a strange pork taste and did not taste like tartare. The duck confit was good but the salad that came with it was soggy with way too much garlic which sort of ruined the whole dish unfortunately. The overall atmosphere is lovely and the service was great. Advice to the chef: simplylify your dishes, go easy on the garlic and the sauces overall.
Brilliant food, one of the best Steak Fries Ive ever had in Vancouver, or ever. The waitress made great suggestions for appetizers and desserts. Will definitely come here again to order the things I didnt get to this time.
My sister chose this restaurant for her birthday dinner as three of us in our party have studied French extensively and she thought it would be a nice chance to have the full French experience . We were disappointed to discover that none of the staff spoke French. I found it to be a dingy atmosphere with old furniture void of character. My chair was wonky so I tried to trade it for another chair and that one was wonky too. The mirror along the wall had been poorly cleaned and had a very long smoky gray area of swipe marks. The drink cooler had no light bulb and made the bar area look more like a two-bit strip joint than a French restaurant where the average meal is $30. Shortly after sitting down we were reminded the table would be needed 7:30 so we should order soon. When we hadnt ordered 5 minutes later we were reminded rudely, again, you may want to order soon as there is a time limit and as we get busier it takes longer for the cooks to get the food out. I was surprised as the only way to dine at this restaurant is with a reservation, so you think they would know how many people they were cooking for and be prepared for that. We had reserved for four but there were only three glasses of water on the table . My friend finally had to ask for a glass since the waiter had not noticed in his three visits to the table. The next disappointment was sliced bread with butter. Yes, it was a baguette, but it was not warm, nor even room temperature, and neither was the butter. I was expecting the bread to be crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, in true Parisian style. We ordered escargot and paté appetizers for the table to share. The escargot was tasty, yet typical and poorly presented. The paté was nice but very salty. Both were served with Melba toast. Our waiter came by after we had tried both appies and asked about them. We told him they were both good but the paté was very salty. As he was in the process of leaving the table when we were answering, he just acknowledged, and continued on his way. Two of us ordered the duck confit, and while the duck was rather mediocre, the veggies were palatable. The risotto got a very good review from our friend but I have never before seen liquid in the bottom of a risotto dish. I ordered the mussels special with fries, and when he put it down in front of me, I got a large waft of dirty diaper! I tried a mussel dipped in the broth and it was terrible! I ended up eating the mussels on their own, and then I tried some of the ingredients in the broth separately from the mussels and they were good too, but did not work well together! The french fries were heavily coated in salt, like they had been rolled in it . When I told the other waiter and asked him asked to exchange them, he gruffly took them and marched away. We had brought our own doggie bag containers, and ended up taking some things home to tweak. The birthday girl asked if they do anything about birthdays there. The waiter said that they put a candle in your dessert. I asked so we need to order a dessert? He said yes. So the birthday girl said so what you do is you give us a candle? He replied yes, and we kind of chuckled. Many times, it was not just what he said but also his delivery. We looked at the dessert menu and decided to go somewhere else for dessert. When he came to get our dessert order, we told him no thank you and we joked with him that we would still like the candle LOL. He returned shortly after with an empty dessert bowl with a birthday candle lit in the middle. We joked and thanked him, but we werent sure if he was being funny or condescending. We didnt really have any positive experiences with the waiter and we felt uncomfortable as he repeatedly tried to remove dishes with food on them. The birthday girl spoke with her friend on the way home, and sent me this text. She and I were talking about how rude and condescending they were. I always try to look for the positives but when I really thought it over I was not impressed. NEVER AGAIN! Parking: There is a tiny parking lot that fits three cars just around the corner. The street parking is in the Suburbs behind the restaurant.
Duck confit and beef tartare is perfect. Vibe here is great
Food ia always decent, but service is brutal at my recent experience. Tiffan our server must of had a bad night, or perhaps the team was down a server. No quality check on appietiser, drinks were empty for 10 plus minutes. She seemed annoyed with the slightest request. We tried to flag her down for 15 mins plus just to request more bread at which she seemed annoyed by. She slammed the bill and pos system at the at time of payment and then left with a final rude remark to my wife and me and left abruptly. Perhaps leave the service industry for folks who are better fitted?
Unfussy restaurant, classic French staples on the menu. Not sure salmon pairs naturally with brussel sprouts though. Overall, food was ok with good service
Had our anniversary dinner at this french restaurant, they were really accommodating to our request. Food was amazing and the price was reasonable for a french food night out. Five star.
Food was incredible, excellent wine selection, and my table was well taken care of by Bruno. Definitely an experience I would recommend!
The food was amazing and our server, Bruno, was excellent. Me and my partner were here for our 1 year anniversary. We often hold hands across the table at restaurants. Bruno noticed this and, when he gave us a bowl in preparation for our main course, he moved it to the side to make room for our hands. Top tier service.
Had a phenomenal time with Camilla as our server. Very special time with family made even better with great ambiance, food and service. Highly recommend for any small gathering or dinner. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Amazing duck breast and vibe
This discreet restaurant is a must stop for all steak lovers. The steak frites accompanied with the mustard butter and peppercorn sauce were the ultimate combo. The staff were very friendly and quick I ve been here twice in the past week and will be coming again! 10/10
Great food and amazing service!! Bruno is the best!! Definitely visit again!!
Honestly...the Steak Frites is to die for. Still epic
Amazing restaurant. Food and service is above par and very reasonable prices.
This is my first time experiencing French cuisine, and I love it. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night, and I barely got a table. The atmosphere is a bit too dark for my liking, but the food more than made up for it. The Escargots de Bourgogne had an excellent crunchy texture and came with a rich butter-garlic-herb sauce that complemented it perfectly. In fact, the sauce was so good that I finished an entire bread basket with it. The Salade niçoise has a very good mix of flavour, but it seemed to use canned tuna and a lot of other canned ingredients instead of fresh ones. The confit de canard is a highly delightful experience. The crispiness of the duck skin contrasts delectably with the juicy leg meat, all seasoned in a way that preserves a hint of the ducks natural flavour. The duck sat upon a mound of leafy greens saturated with a tangy vinigrette, which I found to be pleasant enough to dip another full bread basket into. Lastly, the fresh Crème brûlée tasted far richer and creamier than anything pre-made. The hard caramelized shell was fun to break as well. However, it is not very sweet, which is fine for me. Overall a highly enjoyable experience.
We (3 adults and 1 kid) ordered 2 appetizers and 3 main courses, the portion is biiiig enough for four of us. All of the dishes are well made, fresh and tasty. Personally I love the green salad came with confit duck, well seasoned and lots of fresh green leaves. My son was obsessed with beef tartar. His favorite French cuisine so far. Price is reasonable, service is wonderful. Will definitely come back again with friends and family.
Good food and drink. Didnt seem to take any of my reservation requests in mind when I arrived though, so be warned that even if the restaurant replies positively to your reservation requests, they may not do anything about them (I asked for something special for a birthday, and a good table and received neither).
I hope this place never shuts down. Its so tasty and pretty good value too these days.
Wonderful, cozy restaurant with the French food and ambiance! Was packed with the customers which is certainly a good sign. Food was great , service - prompt and efficient.
Amazing food, My husband ordered steak and it was delicious , we ordered burule for dessert, Oh my goodness! Awesome!
Good. Nothing exceptional.
Amazing food, the onion soup was definitely the best onion soup Ive ever had. Will definitely be back
Perfect spot for date night! We had the steak frites with peppercorn sauce and the desert special (dark chocolate terrin). Food was excellent and server Bruno was lovely. We can t wait to come back!
great service, great food. Vibes and atmosphere are smooth
Great overall
Nice, cozy atmosphere, really good. Food is good and friendly staff. Bit of a wait for service however.
Food was excellent, service was a bit slow due to lack of staff but it was ok. You must make a reservation because the restaurant was small and I saw people being turned away because they didn t have reservations.
My partner and I had a very memorable experience at Les Faux Bourgeois. Our server, Bruno Jupiter , gave us an enjoyable dining experience with a great sense of humour, charisma and exceptional service.
Food was excellent, and service was fast. Bruno was our server, and he was friendly and great. The atmosphere was relaxed and not too loud. We got the salmon and it was delicious.
Great service and authentic French food. The beef tartare and onion soup are great. Steak fries is a bit salty and dry. Creme brulee is ok as the top sugar crust is overdone and too dark.
Fantastic service, fantastic food. I had only been here once in my life, well over a decade ago. I kept remembering the wonderful food and thinking I had to come back. Im very glad I did. I only wish they still had the cassoulet I ate back then, but thats a little much to ask! The place isnt very large, and even on a Tuesday evening, they were quite full, so I would strongly recommend a reservation.
Service was very good. Place was nice and quiet.really great place for a date night . Food was delicious, and the price shocked me. I was expecting a big bill but it was so reasonable that I will be coming back here a lot more! Highly recommend Food
Excellent as aways
I enjoyed the salmon. It was perfect! However, the grilled asparagus was kinda burnt.
Its a quaint, busy place with excellent Alsatian dishes made contemporary. Great wine recommendations from the bartender too. Presentation, service, portions and the quality of the meal makes the place a good value. I highly recommend and look forward to going back.
I ve never had a bad meal or experience here. Service is always friendly, knowledgeable and on-point. They have best steak tartare in the city, hands down. Every dish we try is always amazing. Our favourite date location by far. It s always got a full room but it s never too loud. I noticed they have an outdoor patio now too. Can t wait to try that out next time!
Food was good. Very fairly priced for a Vancouver restaurant. Nice classic French bistro menu and vibes. Hostess was nice, we made a mistake with our reservation but luckily was able to fix it and have us seated. Our server, Dave, was very friendly and helpful through the service. Squid was very super tender and tasty. Duck Confit was pretty good, the goat cheese salad under was great and was a very generous portion. Hanger steak and frites was nice. I prefer the mustard butter over the red wine jus. Very generous portion of fries too. Would come back to try more.
Excellent service. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. However the dishes tasted pretty standard. Actually the beef tartare was a bit disappointing. It was mixed in with so much spice and sauce that you could hardly taste the beef at all. Made you wonder the quality of the beef itself. The dining room was too hot/stuffy, I was pretty much sweating by the end of the meal. I would suggest not to come in the summer especially before 8pm
this place is as amazing as the first time I went there
Havent been here in a while but it was great to be back Kid-friendliness: My daughter asked for a virgin drink...she got an amazing treat. Thanks Food : 5/5 |
My favorite petit bistro tucked away in Mount Pleasant just off Fraser & Kingsway. French cuisine classics, well curated wine & spirits, and a simply elegant atmosphere. Been coming here for 7 years now ^_^ 10/10
Taste in all our dishes, it s a pleasure!
the beef tartare was good. i don t recommend the charcuterie board unless you can appreciate a bitter taste (there is no fig jam). its prices were pretty good for a french restaurant - you get what you pay for. the steak was tender but i personally think it should ve been served with mashed potatoes to complement the steak. there are better restaurants.
Been a few years since Ive visited and so glad the restaurant survived the covid times with everything still living up to expectations. We brought our kids and were seated on the patio. The food is still amazingly delicious. Cant wait to visit this gem again soon
I enjoyed the mussels but the space was too noisy. It was really hard to have a conversation.
Nestled snugly in the corner of McAuley Park This cozy little spot has nothing faux about it , the food and atmosphere are incredible. The staff are warm and welcoming , every dish is expertly prepared with generous portions, if you love butter and garlic this place is for you ! The wine and drink list has an excellent selection that pairs perfectly with any plate on the menu , and the prices here are so reasonable you forget you are in Vancouver. One of the best most underrated places in the city.
Food is decent but definitely not 5 stars. Our server didnt come around very often had to look for him many times. Food
Amazing food, great service, and fantastic ambiance
Great space, great food, and great service! Very approachable and not pretentious, will definitely return!
Food was great, just too salty in my opinion. Menu is not updated (I just updated the new prices I saw on August 27th 2023)
My wife and I loved it here. We made a reservation a couple of days before. Call early to secure your preferred time. Anyway, we splurged because it was our anniversary and it was worth it. The pate was a wonderful start to the evening. The canard confit was magnificent. Make sure you get the rattitouille or some other add-on. Pair with any of their wines. Will go back to try their coq au vin (4 years ago). Follow up: Just recently revisited Les Faux Bourgeois again. Quality was the same as last time, but this time I was with a group. They shimmied around the tables in order to fit in the customers who were supposed to be after us. They then told us that we could stay a bit longer, so we ordered dessert (which did not disapoint). 1 person in the group didnt know if he could make it due to an emergency, so we ordered for him and our server suggested that they plate his food to see if he comes, and the kitchen could easily pack it to-go if needed. Service could not be better. Our server was attentive, chill, friendly and professional all at the same time. Similar to pre-pandemic, make sure you have a res a few days before coming here.
Small French restaurant in east Van close to Kingsway and Fraser. Menus is limited to a few dishes in seafood and meat. Taste is decent but not great either. Portion is reasonable, deco is strictly homey. Servers are efficient and polite. Overall not bad but no urge to go back anytime soon. Small home style eatery.
Loved this restaurant and recommended it to many others but my most recent experience was terrible. We had a reservation for 730 but was not seated until 7:45. This would have been completely fine if the starters had not taken an hour. The server also mixed up our order and the mains did not arrive until 1 full additional hour after the starters. We overheard another server explaining the situation in the kitchen and apologizing to their table however, our server was completely apathetic when we initially checked on our mains. Rather than acknowledging the delay, he simply stated that mains usually come out after starters and that he would check on our order now that we were done with our starters. This is not a valid or respectful explanation as an attentive server would either address the delay or proactively ask the table if they would like the starter and mains to come out together. We checked on our staters again at 9:20 and only then did he apologize for the delay. I understand that unexpected circumstances can happen especially with staffing however, the way you treat your guests in these situations can completely make or break the experience. Unfortunately in this case, it was the latter. When the mains finally arrived, we were unimpressed. The duck confit had been my favourite as it was always cooked well with perfectly crispy skin. This time, it was dry and the skin was undeniably soggy. The dish was rushed and the quality was not there. Very disappointed and will not be returning. We did not leave the restaurant until 10:25pm due to the long wait. There are definitely better French restaurants in town.
The food was surprisingly sub-par for such a popular restaurant. Atmosphere is good and the staff were attentive and friendly, but everything we ordered was not great. The free bread we got at the beginning was cold and stale. Will not be going back.
Horrible experience, have never ever been to a restaurant where I had to cancel the mains before coming out. The squid was so slimy that I felt like I was going to throw up eating it and my husband had to rush off to the bathroom to throw up. I have had many squid dishes before and never had anything this bad that made me feel sick. The beef Tartare was also very average, also wasn t really handled very well by staff. I very rarely write bad reviews on places, but this is well deserved.
It was the worst dinner I have ever had in my life. I made a reservation for 7:30 on a Thursday night to celebrate my best friends birthday. Despite arriving at the restaurant 10 minutes before our reservation time, we were seated at around 8:30. The appetizers took another 45 minutes to arrive, even though we had ordered cold appetizers, which were the pâté and beef tartare. By that time, our wine bottle was empty, and we had only been served complimentary bread. Shouldnt they have brought at least one appetizer within 15 minutes? All the dishes were far from tasty. Some were too salty, while others had no flavor at all. The worst part was our server. She lacked professionalism entirely. If she had shown a nicer attitude, the birthday dinner might have been somewhat salvageable. She should not have displayed her anger or frustration towards us. We will never, ever return to Les Faux Bourgeois!! Kid-friendliness: I do not recommend bringing children at all. Its just not fair to make them wait for such a long time.
Great food and delicious wine in a fabulous little venue
Great selection of dishes, all made exquisitely French.
This was our second time visiting because we had such an incredible meal the first time. We got the onion soup, beef tartare, and one of the puff pastries to start with. Everything was exceptional but the beef tartare stole the show! For our mains we ordered the duck confit and the steak frites, both cooked to perfection. We ended our meal with crème brûlée and it was divine. The crème brûlée at Les Faux Bourgeois is the best I ve ever had. Our server Shelby recognized us - even though the last and first time we visited was four months ago. She was knowledgable, insightful, witty and a wonderful guide as we navigated our meal and drink choices. We will definitely be back as this has quickly become one of our favourite restaurants.
Fantastic French Belgian Bistro food at the right price. Book in advance.
Considering that this is upscale place, I was disapointed by Onion Soup, which was way to cheesy. Wrong technics applied while prepared. Duck was way to dry. Lemon cake was average but very nice serving. However stake was excellent. Thanks to our waiter Douglas, for recommending right sauce.
Great quality/value ratio. However for an upscale restaurant the food was NOT good enough. Therefore very good service. Thank to Doug Food
Very cozy and friendly atmosphere and no doubt one of the hidden jewls of Vancouver restaurants. Food is phenomenal and I mean that for every dish I tried so far. Duck Confit and Steak Frites are my favorites but you will definitely love every item on the menu. Every item on the dish is perfectly paired and tastes pleasantly unique and insatiable. Always busy so make a reso.
Delicious!!
Very delicious!! Tiphaine excellent service Vale la pena!!!
My favorite place
Great daily specials without breaking your bank. A must try.
Salmon tartare, le steak frites and creme Brule. Each bite was magnificent. Words dont do it justice
Superb place to eat French. Very good evening thank you
Amazing Value, was my favorite restaurant in Vancouver when I lived here 10 years ago, returning was everything I expected and more!!
We really enjoyed the food and the service was top notch.
The food was excellent and service great by our waiter Dave. The ambience was wonderful the back ground music was loud enough to be able to hear but not loud enough to drown out conversation. Will visit again
Romantic ambiance, great authentic French food and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend for date nights away from downtown Vancouver.
Delicious meal Outstanding service A good moment.!! To try
Food was very good. Lovely atmosphere and good service. The goat cheese salad was phenomenal! The beef tartare was also very good, though not exceptional. I had the steak frites with peppercorn sauce which I would easily recommend to anyone.
Food was really good, we ordered a number of different dishes and all of them were well made and tasty. Place has a good atmosphere and wed probably go there again. Service was a little on the slow side but they were fairly busy so I wont hold that against them.
This place is very good at its price point. We spent $138 (+tip) for one drink, two appetizers, two mains and two desserts. I asked for a recommendation for a drink with some characteristics and the bartender improvised something delicious! Our server was very attentive too. We started with the onion soup and the goat cheese salad, we continued with the duck confit and the beef parmentier (special) and we finished with the crème brûlée and the lemon tart. We especially liked the salad and the crème brûlée, the rest was ok.
Very trendy bistro. Great atmosphere, staff very friendly and attentive. Would definitely return when in Vancouver again.
Was really looking forward to going, and was mostly happy with the result. I am posting in the hopes that someone else doesnt experience what I did. I ordered the steak and frites - get the salad instead! The salads are wonderful and the fries are good, but dull by comparison. The steak though ... I didnt know it was cooked in direct flame. The streak was black on top and bottom. I dont mean blackened chicken black, I mean fully charcoal black. The meat was cooked perfectly inside but the outside...ugh...the acrid taste of the burnt meat ruined its taste. I am not being precious about it; send me some tasty grill marks along with caramelization sure...but not fully black. When I inquired my server checked and reported back that it was within parameters of flame grilling. I dont understand, but caveat emptor I guess. Such a shame because I am sure I would have been happy with some other choice. They later offered me a free dessert, but I declined. Excellent service, great atmosphere (but pretty close tables and seating so dont expect privacy), and great food. Would still recommend overall ...I hope it goes better for you.
Thank you to Les Faux Bourgeois for the fantastic anniversary night, the food was delicious, the service was exceptional, very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. Definitely a restaurant to recommend and to which I will return! Thank you very much to all the team!!!
I had my birthday dinner there tonight and they assigned us at the private section which was very exciting first because it felt like we closed the place. Everything was delicious as always, I enjoyed my beef tartare but I also Ordered risotto to accompany my tartare, I was so excited to have the Risotto because I kept on talking about it all day, but even though we ordered everything at the same t home, risotto never arrived. I ended up cancelling the risotto However, this made me feel unworthy on my birthday because we were the only table on the private section. The server brought me Crème Brûlée with candle for my birthday and I wish it was not on the bill. We didn t mind paying for the brûlée but I wish they did do something for the forgotten food, like comping a small item. I like their food but I don t recommend the private room since it didn t feel like Les Faux Bourgeois experience. It was very isolated and cold there as well. I gave an extra star because we enjoyed our food as usual, but the service needs to be improved which was used to be
I love this spot! The cocktails are excellent, the food is absolutely delicious every time, and the service is always amazing. The crème brûlée is a must have for dessert. One of my fave spots for dinner in Vancouver.
This restaurant doesnt seem to be run well at all. They ran out of the special duck so early in the night at 8pm, youd think theyd plan for enough on a Saturday night. Our appetizers arrived over an hour after we ordered them, then our main food an hour after that. No apologies from the staff for the delay or effort to make sure we werent waiting long. We ordered the steak Frites, mussels, tartare. Food was ok but there are much better French restaurant options in the city.
Ive been here already 3 times in the 2023 year and omg, this restaurant will forever be my favourite spot for a simple dinner with some close friends. Every single time I am here, it is consistently amazing!! This year, I have tried all their daily features, and each time I have had it, it is always delicious. And on top of that, their service is fantastic, and I have been served by Dave for the past 2 times this year and he has been extremely friendly and nice to us. This is for sure the perfect date spot as well. The ambiance is perfect for it. It has low lighting, romantic atmosphere, and on top of that, it is cozy and comfortable. I really love how their cocktails are extremely affordable as well, and they taste delicious too! Their food selection has been the same for the past 10 years, they have the iconic Beef Tartare and it is always memorable. Their meat to cracker/bread ratio is perfect, and that is very rare for most tartares. On top of that, they always have the iconic escargot. It is perfectly baked and cooked to a perfection that isnt too chewy and deliciously buttery too. This place is special for their steak frites, as I have always walked off with some take home for the night. They have so much steak and fries in that kitchen to bring home it is perfect. On top of that, their daily features have always surprised me with something delicious every time. Their chefs know how to do a proper meal and it is always warm and hearty. Anyways, I do recommend this place every time my friends want a subtle and gentle place to eat. It is low brow and it does carry a good weight for the past years it has been at this location. Well done LFB.
Service was awesome and food was good. Youll enjoy!
Perfect atmosphere. Suitable for dating and celebrating. But the table a little bit dirty as it s sticky, I guess it s not about cleanliness just the table too old.
Great restaurant feels just like a brasserie in France It brings me home everytime Great food great people will be back again for sure! Food : 5/5
Amazing food and atmosphere! Bruno was very friendly and patient. His sense of humor really lighten up our nights:)
Friendly staff and the food is spectacular, I had a mushroom risotto as a main course and it was great.
This is a hidden gem! Daily specials, reasonable prices and good wine. Bruno went above and beyond to make sure we are having a good time. Food
