Classic French dishes served for dinner in an intimate, casually elegant setting.
The restaurant has a menue with four plates, for each there are two options. We st at the bar, which was fun. The food both looked and tasted great.
We reserved for the tasting course to celebrate my birthday and St. Lawrence was amazing. Every dish is cooked to perfection, harmonious taste and texture. However I found my dessert is a little bit too sweet.
Service and atmosphere are fantastic. The little additions to the tasting menu were fun surprises that I really enjoyed. I'm not sure if the food was good enough to justify price for me personally. Nothing was bad, but nothing blew me away either (besides maybe the squash soup!).
Finally found some time to book St Lawrence. Heard and read may good review and the hype is real. The small interior reminds me of Montreal style bistro. We got chef counter seat and it was great to see the action and also speak with the chef and his crew who took the time to describe each dish. Plating and taste was spot on. Service was attentive. Highly recommend for any special occasions just have to book a month out in advance if you want weekend and the chef counter seating
We celebrated my wife's birthday at St. Lawrence Restaurant, and it was an exceptional experience! This small, charming French restaurant offers a simple 4-course set dinner with a variety of add-ons, making it customizable and special. The cocktail selection was impressive, with plenty of creative options to choose from, and each one we tried was fantastic. The staff, especially our waitress, was friendly and attentive, recommending their signature add-ons and drinks to enhance our dining experience. As for the food, everything was cooked with incredible attention to detail. The dry-aged beef was a standout—it was tender, flavorful, and extraordinary. I loved every bite. Another highlight was the crispy bread—a juicy piece of chicken wrapped in bread and deep-fried to perfection. It’s a must-have item that left us wanting more! Overall, St. Lawrence is a perfect spot for a special dinner. With outstanding food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere, it made for a memorable birthday celebration. We'll definitely be back!
Overall, every dish tasted great and we had a memorable experience. The place is quite small, but I loved the ambience. The staff were all kind and professional. The neighborhood is sketchy, so I'd recommend getting there by car. On food -- The canelé was provided as a welcome appetizer, and it was cakey and savory to my surprise. The second welcome dish was a creamy corn soup, which was really good, too. For the first dish, the beet tart was amazing. The horseradish sorbet on top added a nice kick to the dish, each flavor blended well. I preferred it to the squid noodle. For the second dish, the steamed mussels tasted great. Its white wine butter sauce was amazing. The rabbit ravioli was good too, but I preferred the mussels. For the main course, the veal tasted amazing. All the three components of the dish were well curated and complemented each other well. The salmon was cooked medium-rare, which made it soft and tender. For dessert, the pistachio ice cream was so good! It was nutty and not too sweet. Every dish tasted great.
This was one of the best French tasting menus I’ve ever experienced. Each course was meticulously prepared with a perfect balance of vibrant colors and complex, yet harmonious, flavors. The presentation was stunning, with every dish plated like a piece of art. The ambiance of the restaurant felt like being welcomed into someone’s home in Quebec—warm, inviting, and filled with hints of nostalgia. The intimate yet casual atmosphere made the experience even more special, allowing you to feel comfortable while still enjoying a refined dining experience. Service was exceptional, setting a new standard for attentiveness. Little touches, like returning to a freshly folded napkin, showed the care they put into every detail. The dishes were incredibly unique, with flavors that were both balanced and thoughtfully complex. It was an authentic, memorable experience that transported me to the heart of France.
The presentation and the design of the courses were superb. The vegetable presence was elegant and refreshing, sliced tomato, shredded eggplant and the tower of yellow beet. The restaurant was small but intimate, and the restaurant arrangement brought back the history but not corny. The service was a hit and miss. Some of the server lacked patience for explaining. Loved the food experience here!
Good, but not what it used to be. Their $135 tasting menu is quite expensive for what you get. The pork chop for two people to share was quite small, and nothing compared to the St Lawrence pork chops of the past. (think Oka cheese melted on top of a bone in pork chop). I cant fault the food overall, its really well prepared, but it just didnt wow me like my first few visits. As for the service, I found the staff to be slightly impatient with a touch of arrogance. Maybe it was just me.
I had high expectations for this restaurant, especially since I chose it to celebrate my girlfriends birthday, but it turned out to be a complete disaster from start to finish. Even though we arrived on time for our reservation, we had to wait 10 minutes outside due to their poor management of reservations. Once we got inside, we had to wait another 10 minutes for our table to be ready, which was incredibly frustrating. When we finally sat down, things only got worse. The food was absolutely terrible. Every dish we ordered tasted bland, and some had an odd, stale flavor. It was embarrassing to sit there watching my girlfriend try to enjoy the meal when it was so obviously bad. The lack of care in the preparation completely ruined what was supposed to be a special evening. We ended up cutting the dinner short and asking the server to pack our dessert to go. We didn t want to spend another minute there, only to be disappointed by the final course as well. For the price they charge, I expected far better quality food. This place is not worth your time, money, or trust, especially for a special occasion. I will never come back here again and strongly recommend avoiding it. The only good part was the service the servers and hostess were really nice and professional.
I was pretty disappointed by this restaurant. The dining room was beautiful and the food was good, but I wasn t blown away. We got 2 tasting menus, 2 cocktails, and a bottle of wine and the bill was $650 after tip . The portions are extremely small so we had to go get another meal after. We sat at the bar and no one asked how we were enjoying our meal. As someone who has worked in the industry I would say this definitely is not worth the amount of money. You will pay over $500 to leave hungry. The food was above average.
Beautiful experience, innovative menu and cocktail menu (the Max au Max was delightful for a dirty martini lover and very unique), and wonderful service
I had one of my most memorable evenings ever last night at St.Lawrence. It was as if I d travelled to France without jet lag! Delicious food and wine, fabulous service, authentic decore. Merci St.Lawrence!
Quite good if somewhat overrated. Cocktails are silly and unsuccessful. Wine card interesting but confusing. We were planning on ordering a bottle of Champagne but with so many small growers it s very difficult to keep track. Whenever we order a bottle we are inevitably disappointed, so passed (most are in the mid 200 s, a bit too much to gamble on). The food? Courses range from awful (limp overly sweet pork rinds dressed in a spice mix that was mostly garlic powder) to delicious (chicken consommé). The sole pithivier (fish pie) had a tough crust and was rather bland unless you got a hit of basil wrapped between fish and crust, which overwhelmed the delicate fish. The accompanying bisque-like seafood sauce was sublime however. Apple tart was disappointing, chocolate dessert much better. Service was spotty- great, then very slow, then good again when more staff appeared. St. Lawrence is very nice in the way that many French restaurants used to be. Is it worthy of a Michelin star? Not quite, but it s good to very good. Tables are very hard to come by so reserve early and plan on spending $200 per person, more if ordering a vintage wine, plus gratuity.
Absolutely incredible experience at St. Lawrence! We had seats at the Chefs Counter and it was fascinating to watch them work back there. The food and service were outstanding and we couldnt have asked for a better dinner
Me and my husband went to the St. Lawrence for my 44th birthday. We were very upset when we received our bill which was $450 because the food was actually horrible. There was nothing that came that blew us away out of that four horse meal that we had we were severely let down and the $450 price tag attached to it was even more of a letdown the food that Michelin star I don t know what is for because nothing they served us Was worth $450. Will never eat at Saint Lawrence again. One thing I will give it, though the service was extraordinary. It was extraordinary.
Magnificent
Excellent food and service, but the restaurant is quite noisy. You ll need to speak up for others at your table or the servers to hear clearly. If you re looking for a peaceful, quiet dining experience, this might not be the best choice.
Top notch and everything youd expect for a Michelin star restaurant. We tried one of everything on the tasting menu. When I say there were no stand outs its because everything was fantastic.
We went for my birthday, staff were wonderful but the food was good, but not the best. Our favourite dish of the night was the escargot
My partner and I have been trying out all the Michelin star restaurants of Vancouver. Saint Lawrence DOES NOT disappoint. This was one of the best experience I had so far. The vibe is so homy and welcoming, really made me think of some of my favorite restaurants from Montreal. The food was so well thought of and executed.Simply delicious. We were seating at the bar and I enjoyed being able to watch the kitchen create the plates in such a focus and calm way. I highly recommend.
Delicious and innovative food, enthusiastic staff, chic decor and honestly quite reasonable prices. We came for my wifes birthday and left happy, full and satisfied. The 2nd course, Moules Marinière, pommes de terre rôti & aïoli au saffran, tasted like the ocean melted in my mouth and coated my tongue. We didnt want steak this time, but I regret not getting their Pont Neuf potatoes. Its definitely one of the top 5 most delicious things in all of Vancouver. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
Fantastic Michelin Star experience, all the dishes were amazing. Duck main course was the star of the show
The Service was good and the atmosphere was nice, the Food was good but for a 1 Star Michelne Restaurant it should be better on the seasoning,
Food was good but portions are tiny, just a nice bite. Very strange and inconvenient wine list, lot if unconventional choices, all very pricy. Good for business, bad for the customer. Theres no nice and cosy seating in this restaurant , rubbing shoulders with everyone including waiters. Places by the door are terrible, drafty and noisy, other places are just noisy. Terrible location with strange characters passing by the windows and observing dining crowd. And on top of that, its very expensive. Doesnt worth the money at all. Extremely disappointed
Fantastic service and food
I have been to multiple Michelin star and Michelin bib restaurants in France and Italy so i have certain degree of understanding... This restaurant is a tiny restaurant with uncomfortable sitting no matter where you are. Horrible location. Definitely not the place to evite your date- no matter where you look out of the window, you will see homeless people sharing a needle or preparing for a night. The food is excellent, but the portions are tiny (as if its a tasting menu with 12 dishes, not the a la carte menu). Cheap wine with expensive price tag (if judged by vivino, the wine rated 3.8 will cost $120 and up at this restaurant; the rating 4 in Vivian, will cost you $165 ). My husband is level 3 WSET, but it was hard to choose the wine because how unconventional this restaurants wine choice is (off grid). I guess to rip you off more...
Was it worth $480 for two people? Absolutely not. The food was just mediocre, certainly not worth the high price. The server was a bit passive-aggressive when I mentioned one of the dishes was too sweet. She responded with the next dish will be dessert, do you still wanna try? Overall, we left feeling disappointed and overcharged. I wouldn t recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or any time youre looking for a quality dining experience.
Definitely a Vancouver institution and lovely place to dine for excellent French cuisine. The atmosphere is charming and intimate. The service is excellent. The tasting menu was great but our favourite dishes were the menu staples that you add ala carte, such as the foie options, escargot, and the pork rinds. I d you re treating yourself at St. Lawrence, I definitely recommended adding on a few of these additions- they make the meal!
The food truly exceptional. One of the best meal in Vancouver. However, the service didn t quite match up. At a more casual restaurant, these issues wouldn t bother me, but for a Michelin-starred establishment, I expected more consistency. Other tables received more detailed menu explanations, including the origins of certain ingredients, which we didn t get, leaving us feeling slightly overlooked. Additionally, the service started strong, with synchronized plate serving, but became less coordinated later in the meal. This shift in service seemed to happen once the staff were certain we weren t food critics At the end of the meal, while waiting for our coats, we were asked to step outside into the cold to accommodate someone with accessibility needs. While we fully support accessibility, the situation could have been handled more thoughtfully, especially given the temperature. Overall, while I would gladly return for the food, the inconsistent service gives me pause.
Came here for a birthday celebration. As expected, St Lawrence never fails to deliver as a Michelin Starred restaurant. From the food, service, and atmosphere, St Lawrence is really a unique experience youve gotta try at least once if you live or are visiting Vancouver. I finally got to try the Pork Rinds (Been here 3 times already). Honestly a must order. If you enjoy eating pork rinds, youll be surprised with how St Lawrence does it.
Best restaurant I have ever been to, exceptional service, outstanding food, and atmosphere was stunning. Highly recommend going!
Fantastic experience, both quality and presentation of dishes. The wine pairing was incredible as well.
The food was ok, nothing tasted bad, but I was expecting more of a wow factor for such a highly-rated restaurant. The service was not very attentive and the space felt cramped, albeit authentic I suppose. For the price point, I didnt think it was worth it. Tiny portions also.
My boyfriend booked this place for my birthday. He had a 8:15pm reservation for us, we arrived exactly then. The host told us our table wasn t ready and they were behind, which was fine.. we hung outside and chatted. We went back in 20m later to check in, and the host told me I believe the table is just having 2more bites and then paying the bill . That could mean anything. Who knows if that table wanted to get another round of drinks, or if they wanted to be rushed out after paying $300-400 We asked her if we could sit at the bar and drink and the host said we could. She offered to let us know when our table was ready to move, I don t think we heard back until another 20-25m . At this point we had already ordered food and just decided to stay where we were. Me and my boyfriend are both industry people, neither of us were mad and were understanding for the wait, and didn t mind sitting at the bar after. But after making a reservation, waiting 20m outside and another 20-25 to hear about our table, and it being known it was my birthday, they could have at least comp round of drinks or SOMETHING . It felt like there was absolutely no acknowledgment or sense of apology regarding this. Something we didn t expect in a restaurant like this, almost snobby. Our bartender was attentive, great and funny, no complaints about that service. But the food we ordered was honestly so underwhelming it s decent, but , that s it. Just decent, not great or delicious. Seems awfully cheap portions the amount of money he spent. We got the Veal and it s literally 4 of the smallest pieces of meat on a spate with just sauce and a piece of onion. Don t understand the Michelin star. Wouldn t come back to this place. $300 and me and him got fast food on the way home because we were so hungry and nothing else was open on a Sunday night.
A nice local gateway to French-Canadian cuisine in a vibrant part of town. The cocktails here are on point - definitely try the Komura if you like dirty martinis. The Est-Ouest is another great cocktail, and the restaurants rendition of a manhattan. I got mine in a rocks glass. Food portions and pacing were good. Was a bit disappointed in that the server offered to give us a listing of the wines for the wine pairing but we never got it after the meal. We upgraded one of our entrees to the dry-aged steak, which was a good sized sharing portion and flavorful cut of meat. Overall, worth a visit. Parking: Don t leave valuables in your car
This is a 1-star Michelin French restaurant. It s a pretty small and dark restaurant. The ambiance and plating didn t wow me like other Michelin restaurants. The dinner is a 4-course meal with a few extra bites throughout the meal. You also have a choice to add on extras to the meal. We opted to add on the escargot, which was amazing and was my favorite dish of the night. The escargot was perfectly cooked and wasn t too greasy. It went so well with the small, flaky tart. For the 1st course, I got the squid noodles, and my bf got the beetroot tart. The squid noodles were unique and had a good, chewy texture. I also enjoyed the beetroot tart. The pastry part was so good. For the second course, I got the shrimp crepe, and my bf got the stuffed pasta with rabbit. The crepe was just ok. It wasn t particularly tasty, and it was also lukewarm. For the main course, I got the trio of veal, and my bf got the halibut. The veal was quite tasty. The veal tongue was super tender. The halibut was flaky and tender and smooth like butter For dessert, I got the the berry clafoutis, and my bf got the meringue. The texture of the clafoutis was great, kind of like a bread pudding. I don t particularly like meringue, but it tasted solid. There were a few extra items from the chef. There was a cheesy pastry bite that was sooo good. The extra dessert bites came with 1 sour dessert, and 1 fudge. I didn t like the sour one, but the fudge was delicious. Price per person was $125. The escargot was an additional $20. Overall, I enjoyed most of the items in the meal. Portion sizes are kinda small, so you won t feel stuffed if you go really hungry.
Such a huge disappointment for a Michiko e star restaurant! The son dish -- aged steak -- was tough, other dishes mediocre. This was our 50th wedding anniversary, and I was ready to pay the exorbitant $400!!! What a rip-off!!!!
I have been going to this restaurant since they opened & they really deserve the Michelin star and they have been outstanding since day 1. I was there last night and realized I have never given them a review. Such an exceptional restaurant. Food service ambiance music presentation & staff all superb. Last night was another delicious journey and the food was divine. Foie gras parfait is so tasty as well last night the horseradish sorbet was so good. As well they have amazing cocktails & make some of the best martinis in the city :) thank you for another lovely evening
We had a birthday here and sitting next to the chef and getting an explanation on every dish made the experience wonderful the dishes were hearty and beautifully prepared with many taste surprises it was a tour de force.Highly recommended!
We sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen. It was great fun observing the staff pull together their artistry. The food was outstanding, service impressive and wine list perfect. A great culinary experience.
Beautiful food and service. Well presented and super delicious. Intimate romantic space. Best tasting menu Ive ever had. A great evening
Unparalleled service, food, ambience & wine. Fine dining normally isn t for me, but it s refined yet unpretentious. It helps that the food is incredible! Such a treat for special occasions, would really recommend the paté to start.
Beautiful set menu, great service. They were able to do gluten free dishes for me. Nice cocktails. Quite pricey. Dietary restrictions: They can accommodate gluten free diet, but with limited choices
THEY COOOOOOKKKKKEEEEEDDDDDDDD
My best meal in years, including multiple Michelin starred restaurants. The service was excellent and he explained everything about the food, wine, and any other questions we had. Not cheap, but a great value compared to other restaurants of similar quality.
Vegetarian options: At least 48h notice are necessary for the chef and his team to modify the menu. It is worth it. Food
The staff here are pros. They know their stuff, and are clearly passionate about what they do. Food is absolutely fantastic, however for over $200 - was left quite a bit hungry after the four course dinner. Otherwise, everything was perfect.
Incredible place, the food is a delicious experience and Brynn was charming and super attentive to us. We will definitely return for her and the food.
tasting menu (128) / éclair with duck liver mousse (21) / garlic snails in queen bites (20)
Overrated. One of the worst Michelin star restaurants I ve dined at.
Came here for my birthday and it was a very memorable experience. Parking: Parking is in a sketchy area Food : 5/5 |
You will feel at home at this gem which is St.Lawrence: excellent food, service and ambiance (former japanese butchers shop in an heritage house). We really love the combination of french and eastern (Québec) /western canadian cuisine. It is not pretentious and so elevated at the same time. Une étoile Michelin est recommandée ici. One of the best restaurant in Vancouver for sure. Just go and experience it. Merci encore.
Really good food and professional service. You get the feeling that even the servers are glad to be there. I appreciate that they didnt try to upsell me on the wine. The duck mousse dish is the stuff of dreams.
Food: The taste is fine, but not worth the price. Atmosphere: Tables are too close together. Overall, would not recommend.
The service is great, but the restaurant is small and crowded. The food is okay, but I saw one chef lick the spatula and put it back in the utensil holder without washing it. I puked after eating.
It was a nice dinner but I expected more. Some dishes were not good. Its too complicated and bad taste from mixing too many ingredients. Very good service, but overall, they can do a better job for such a well-respected establishment. I wont be recommending this to anyone.
Excellent food! Definitely worth a visit when in Vancouver. Best restaurant we visited during our week in Vancouver
First time here and wont be my last. From the moment I walked in to when I left..exceptional food, service, wine pairing and experience..especially for my birthday. Had some amazing food, from the ravioli, to the raspberry dessert, the best pamplemousse cocktail.
The food was disappointing. We had committed to splurging because of our 50th anniversary. The main dish-- aged steak--was tough. The cost of the meal was outrageous for the quality.
Definitely a must visit in Vancouver. Brin was just the loveliest mix of a waitress and sommelier that we could have asked for! Order the rinds!
Excellent, absolutely amazing. When I made the reservation the menu was not posted online. When I was able to view I noticed a couple items that were not preferred. I did not want to be that person and make revisions/substitutions and called to cancel the reservation they ask about our preferences and said they could happily accommodate the request. We sat at the bar started with the fried pork rinds, eclair pastry and drinks then proceeded with the tasting menu, we also elected to go with the wine pairing. The wines paired perfectly with the dishes. I highly recommend if you get the chance to dine here.
One of the best french and innovative tasted resaturant in Vancouver. The oyster motoyaki with french styling is great. The Baguttee right before main course is great. The appetizer of french food is great. 4 course menu with 2 extra small bites is a great set. The hind of sour taste in the escargo is excellent idea; the appy taste have multiple layers. Single glass of 4oz wine is bit stingy; service is michelin standard. No complain about food. Only downer is the food fly circling my wife during the meal. Dietary restrictions: Excellent for celebration
We looked online for somewhere to go for a birthday dinner that wasnt a chain restaurant. We have noticed that a lot of the good eateries have moved out of the DT core. We love smaller, independent venues. There is a limited set menu that didnt disappoint, the service was amazing, staff are friendly and attentive. I loved the energy and the atmosphere, it reminded me of some of Londons (UK) restaurants I used to go to. If you are a foodie you have to go. To reserve a table you pay upfront then any additional drinks etc get added at the end of the night. I quite liked that system. I tend not to take photos of our food at certain restaurants as I want to enjoy the moment and take in the atmosphere. Particularly when its this good.
Food was hands down beating expectations. I knew it would be amazing for a Michelin star restaurant but I actually thought it was better quality than just a 1 star.
Drinks were great and food was excellent in terms of uniqueness and combination of flavours and textures. It left me wanting more! However, there was no more :( Portions were way too small for the price; don t go here if you want to feel full after. Service was good I appreciate the attention to detail from the staff.
The best restaurant in Vancouver this year! A small Michelin star restaurant in a questionable neighborhood. Food was amazing, and the service was good. But, they kept my wine glass empty so I had to ask for more wine multiple times. The place reminded me of Montreal neighborhood restaurants with great vibes.
We visited St Lawrence to celebrate special milestones and everything was perfect! Not only was the food incredible, the staff were friendly and welcoming. It was cool getting to watch the chefs at work -- THANK YOU for the tastiest and prettiest food!!
Food is delicious! Vibe is fine dining / cozy. Superb service. We got the tasting menu and it did not disappoint! We loved everything, but our fav dish was probs the warm bread and butter melted in our mouths
First and foremost prepaid reservations is 20% auto gratuity (we were a party of 2) Just heads up to anyone booking, I just can t really get on board with restaurants who charge this, at 20%, for any booking. The food was pretty good for the most part. Every dish was quite delicious, with no particular standouts, but the foie gras eclair that was fantastic. The service itself was good, everyone was kind, and courteous. Only one thing is that they forgot one of our dishes, which we reminded them towards the end of our meal and got after we ate dessert Overall, not a bad experience, I just expected a bit more in terms of the service if we re being auto gratted.
Simply one of the top three meals I ve ever had in my life, and the only one I ve eaten at a restaurant that shares my name! They had one seat at the bar available on short notice on Friday night and I was visiting Vancouver, so it was a natural fit. The food was spectacular, the cocktails were wonderful, and the wine pairings were perfect. The bartender, whose name I can t remember, was friendly, skilled, and always willing to take the time to answer any questions. If I m ever back in Vancouver, I ll be going back to St. Lawrence. If you go, make sure to add the maple MTL spice pork rinds.
Did the chefs tasting menu at the counter. The space was cramped a bit, on top of that, the waitress kept changing dishes and cutleries from our right side with her right arm - touching my left shoulder every damn time when she served my husband sitting on my left. That was weird ! Foodwise, we had a good experience! The chefs were working diligently and creatively - inspirational.
I had the best restaurant dining experience here last night. Whoever said the their oyster dish is too fishy should never have seafood again. Who ever said their portions are too small should just loose some weight. From initial greeting to the exit, I never had an experience where there was not even a one off. My girlfriend and I shared their feature cocktail to start, and let our server lead us into the wine experience. From the amuse, to petit fours and the dessert, there was not a single component of the dish, that was not meant to be there. Every single component of each dish, complemented each other, and worked as a harmony, and with the perfect wine pairing from our server, it was an absolute impeccable experience. Throughout the dining, you can see the chef and the cooks are in a zone, synced with each other, and every front of house positions, are always paying attention to detail, and will anticipate your needs. Each table touch was just so on point. Any aspiring cooks, or restaurant service staff in Vancouver should try the experience at St Lawrence, and I promise you, you will learn something. Thank you to the whole team for such an inspiring dinner. True legends in this industry.
We dined at the St. Lawrence on Sunday night and certainly enjoyed our meal. Was it worth $625 plus drinks for four people? That is where I felt the experience fell short. The food was good but not mind-blowing. The service was very good but a bit stiff. The room was good but not great. It was a bit noisy and the atmosphere was nice but not great. In a nut shell I expected more for the price. We also resented being forced to pre-pay the meal in full to make a reservation PLUS pay a 20% tip before we had any idea what the service was like. Giving a tip is a reward for good service not a mandatory fee. This experience would be 5 stars if the meal was less than $100 per person. The tip was based on the quality of service and the reservation was free with no strings attached. As it stands now, not good value and we would recommend some other choices in town over the St. Lawrence Restaurant. Parking: We were able to park within the same block as the restaurant which was a good thing as it is located in a very rough section of town.
The food was delicious 10/10 and the service, thanks to David for explaining everything to us so well and making us feel at home. If you go to Vancouver and want to enjoy a good dinner, definitely you have to go to this restaurant.
Everything was absolutely sublime. Every new dish was better than the one preceding it. Great wine selection, too. Big shout out to the staff - incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming.
My wife and I recently went to St Lawrence to have their tasting menu. In my own personal opinion, this restaurant serves not just well developed flavors, but moods and feeling with each dish. To start with, a light fluffy cheese filled inside a ravioli shaped cracker. Next, a light and airy oyster soaked in sauce and foam - this is the best oyster I ve eaten, and I live in the PNW. Next, an incredibly light thinly sliced scallop on top of a sunchoke with the delicious minced texture. Another standout dish was the sablefish with lentil and a a red wine sauce- if you ve never had anything like this, all I can say is that the sauce has a flavor so warm and rich, you feel like you re tasting warm sunlight. The beet terrine with preserved lemon and horseradish ice cream is the type of thing you would find at a French Michelin star restaurant in that it s a combination of flavor and art. For me, these types of dishes feel like something I ve never tasted before and push my boundaries. The staff went way above and beyond to make us feel welcome and they were very accommodating. I won t spill all the secrets but if you want a taste of high French while also feeling casual and relaxing, this is a great place to experience new things for your palette. Would recommend.
Second time here. First time was awesome Sucre Cabane festival celebrating maple sugar in January. Tonight s tasting menu just delicious: everything was the right balance. Came here for early Mother s Day dinner. Highly recommended.
Genuinely one of the best in BC with no exaggeration, Ive gone at least once a year since open. Similarly priced menus in New York, Washington leave you wanting in comparison as the flavours and textures here are always on point. Ive only had comparable in California. Ive gone less since the price increase, but you will absolutely leave comfortably full despite small portions for each course. Everything is good, but dont visit without having the fois gras and game meats. I could eat a small pools worth of it. The space is quite small which doesnt make it ideal for wheelchair users and parking can be questionable.
Excellent experience!
I don t typically like to leave restaurant reviews unless I feel slighted by an experience. I had been recommended to St Lawrence many times in the past and I was really excited to give it a go! With the set menu and 2 cocktails the total came out to $360 (for 2). Going to a restaurant like St Lawrence you expect to pay top dollar, but you should also expect greatness. Service was great, cocktails were solid but the food mostly missed the mark. The tar tar was average, the mushroom dish fell flat and the lamb was a 7/10. The small piece of bread they gave us before the main course was the highlight (emphasis on small). I think the most disappointing part of the experience was the portion size for each dish. I came to the dinner hungry, spent $360 and felt like I needed to stop for food on the way home. Both my partner and I left hungry after each after both having 4 course meals. It seems as though the Michelin star has affected this restaurant in a negative way. As much as I would like to, I do not recommend St Lawrence.
We were greeted immediately and everyone was extremely friendly. The tasting menu we went for was exceptional, were the drinks. I highly recommend this restaurant as it was a very unique and beautiful experience.
Fantastic place, delicious food, service impeccable. Recommend 200%. Do not miss if youre in Vancouver.
Excellent restaurant. The dishes offered are of great finesse with quality products. The service is very professional with a lot of sympathy. Special mention for the excellent welcome from Christophe.
Just because you have a Michelin doesnt mean your food is good. I do not recommend, I hear people comment how it was better before they got their star. So sad... Also, we left still hungry. Cmon! How you gonna make us spend $300 and still be hungry!
St. Lawrence has been on my list of restaurants to try for years! I m so sad that we left disappointed and hungry. Curse of the Michelin Star maybe? The restaurant is beautiful, service was good but the food was mediocre and portions were small (I m making sweet potato fries as I write this). Oyster amuse-bouche was a tad fishy, Gruyère stuffed pasta lacked seasoning, and the grilled cod entree was very underwhelming. Redeeming bites were the beef tartar, demi-baguette with brown butter, and the rice pudding and chocolate mousse desserts (doesn t look like much but delicious)! Will not be back and would not recommend.
It was a mind blowing experience! Ive never had food prepared so uniquely and deliciously. The chefs are true artists, and the staff were exceedingly professional and accommodating. They never left us wanting for anything.
One of the best restaurants I ve been to around the would. Grazi Food : 5/5
(menu from March 2024) Good, but less incredible than in other restaurants of the same level. They forgot to introduce me to the last service, I realized this when reading the menu shared as a souvenir after departure. Alcohol-food pairings are good, but the salt/sugar level of the dishes needs to be refined and a little more lightness would be welcome during the meal.
the location in the midst of the Vancouver homeless crisis, and also the tiny cramped dining space, are shocking failures
We booked a table for our anniversary and we did enjoy our food there. Our menu consisted of a series of smaller plates, almost 7-8 in total if we count the pre-amuse amuse, the actual amuse and the post-desert, i.e. the mignardises (which I really enjoyed, especially the truffle-chocolate). Dishes were balanced and complex flavor-wise. I would have preferred the bread from the bread service to be a bit less sweet from that glaze and a bit more fluffy, it was quite dense. Since this is my 24th Michelin Star restaurant, I have to say that portion-wise, the entire meal in total was on the barely-enough-food side. I have rarely had this experience with restaurants of this caliber and I usually make fun of people who say that in fine dining portions are small, because for most degustation menus, you rarely leave a place hungry. Unfortunately, I left St. Laurence almost hungry. My delicious caramelized onion tart was barely a bite, my amazing pasta dish was barely two bites and my duck breast main had literally two tiny pieces of duck. Even for the bread service I was never asked if I want more than a tiny bun that was supposed to serve two. To compare French cuisine with French cuisine, at Le Bernardin, a three-star restaurant in the heart of NYC, the bread service is impeccable, the bread is of a higher quality all together, and you can have as much as you want. If you visit for lunch you get probably 3 times more food than St Laurence, for the same amount of money approx. So, while I enjoyed the flavors and the service was good, I really did leave the restaurant almost hungry, and while my palate was highly entertained I felt that the restaurant could afford to serve slightly bigger portions. In other words, I felt a bit cheated, as if I should be satisfied with less food because (insert a make-believe explanation here) Btw, we did add extras to our menu and still the food wasnt enough. Also, for a French restaurant the wine list is just unacceptable. Very few choices really. It will take me a while to visit for those reasons.
Exquisitely good.
Go celebrate my wife s birthday! Very good experience. Food and service is amazing! Highly recommended
I had a wonderful first experience at this exceptional establishment. The atmosphere was welcoming, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely divine. I highly recommend paying a visit to enjoy the same delightful experience.
Delicious. I wish you could order a la carte though. Prices are insane considering you cant choose, however it is an experience and I understand the concept.
Great food and service, definitely a place we will go back to.
We went in February this year. The staff are so kind and attentive. The food is very rich and heavy. If you select the wine pairing with the set menu and mix in other alcoholic drinks you may have a very upset bloated tummy! Its an experience, but not one my stomach could handle again.
One of the best restaurants in Vancouver! They really deserve the star, by the way its a 5/5 But I removed a star because they made us share a baguette between two hahaha, one baguette per person is not too much to ask ;) Get the wine pairing, its worth it
One of the best meals Ive ever had. The tasting menu is eloquent, but very approachable. Every staff member in the building was incredible and very welcoming. I will definitely be back in the future!
This was certainly the best meal I have eaten in my life. I opted for the wine parings and they are a must! There is nothing that I didn t like and I wouldn t even be able to pick a course that was my least favourite. Service was absolutely impeccable! I work for a luxury hotel chain in the city and it showed me the service I need to strive for when I am assisting a guest. When I left to go to the WC I came back to my napkin folded again which was a very nice touch. Finally, the atmosphere was nothing less than astounding. It was a laid-back more casual feeling yet refined and elegant. It felt like I was transported back to France. The best part was this was not done in a way that came off as pretentious or inauthentic. Dietary restrictions: I was sitting at the chefs counter and I did not have any restrictions. However I overheard conversations about the restrictions to be implemented for a table. Wheelchair accessibility: Street level entrance and would accommodate a wheelchair if request.
Came to St. Lawrence for the April 2024 tasting menu ($148 per person). To cut to the chase, do I recommend? No. But this is very much a personal preference. Let me explain/review. Amuse started with a small pastry filled with cheese (tasted like cream cheese). It was literally bite-sized foreshadowing the rest of the meal to come. Appetizer scallops and oyster. This was delicious! Cooked perfectly, interesting flavours and easily the best dish of the night. Salad beet and horseradish ice cream. Beets were ok. Horseradish ice cream was surprisingly refreshing. Sablefish and lentils this is where things started to go sideways for me at St. Lawrence. Sablefish was cooked well but was bite-sized (about a square inch big). Felt like I was being teased with another amuse-bouche, but this was supposed to be a main dish! I like lentils, but nothing about these really stood out. Baguette and butter good. I just wish they gave us more than one piece of bread (literally) to share amongst two people. Lamb trio I like lamb and this dish was ok (perhaps a bit mushy/under seared crust). Again, it felt like I was eating tiny bite-sized morsels of lamb that I would feed to my small pet. Berry salad a light refresher offered just before the dessert. I liked it but my wife did not (intense blue cheese flavour). Dessert apple pie and ice cream. This was very good and not too sweet. Probably the second most memorable dish after the scallops. And that was it! I get that this is a fine-dining experience which is about the cooking technique, flavours and presentation etc. But my wife and I both left hungry and dissatisfied with the experience. Let me put it this way at $148 per person, plus a couple of drinks, plus tax and tip (which by the way is a minimum 20%), the bill is easily north of $400 for two people. If we had $400 to spend at a restaurant (which we are fine to do if we love the food there), would we go back to St. Lawrence? Absolutely not. And that s where I will leave this review this is not a restaurant that we will be going back to.
Favourite restaurant in the city, by far. Been about a dozen times now and each time is a great experience. Cant wait for my next visit and cant recommend enough.
One the best in Vancouver. JP s food it spectac
A reasonable experience. I feel that perhaps it s more about hype than actual performance food-wise here. I would consider most of the courses more as amuse-Bouches. I didn t find value in the tasting menu for the price point I did enjoy the wine pairing. It was decent. The truth is that we left disappointed.
What a memorable, delicious, and exquisite meal. We did the fixed menu with add ons and the pairings. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. To enjoy a delicious meal with friends with zero decision making and incredible service is PRICELESS. We were 3 friends reconnecting over food and the experience was perfection. Chris and his team took incredible care of us. We had a few sensitive tummies for beverages so 2/3 of the pairings needed augmentation and they were able to accommodate and exceed expectations. We will 100% be back. What a delightful evening.
Great food and staff. Highly recommend for special occasions.
Went there twice. Dec 22 and Dec 23. As a French person, I fully endorse their menu. Among the 10 or so dishes of the tasting menu, all of them hit the right notes. If you have never had French haute gastronomie, or youre missing that, its the best Ive found in GVA The portiy size is ok but a tad more wouldnt hurt. Youre not going to walk out starving but you better not make it the only meal of your day either, which is fine kinda. I think the pricing went haywire though. It literally doubled up in the span of 1 year. I know theres inflation but surely the Michelin star got a detrimental effect to the value us customers get. I still think its a fantastic place, and probably a staple in the Vancouver food scene if you want to celebrate an anniversary or something like that... That is: when money becomes a secondary concern. The atmosphere and service are both fantastic so theres that. In short, if youre price conscious, you will probably want to consider other venues. If you want the absolute best French food/service/atmosphere without regard for the price then by all means go there.
I ve been meaning to try this place for a while and I m glad I finally did. Bringing in Quebec-style cooking to the west coast in a wonderful marriage of flavours is what you can expect here. Definitely get the pork rinds as the add on, they re tasty and addictive! Service was attentive and fantastic. Food came at a decent pace, depending on your dining style. Overall, very impressed with the food. Make sure you make a reservation ahead of time! Parking: The free spots are in the not great areas, the paid spots are on the main roads. Pay for the parking to be safe and not have to walk to your car at night after.
For the amazing main dishes + really delicious desserts, I have to give it a five-star review.
We did the cabane à sucre tasting menu. Every course was absolutely delicious! The foie gras mousse was the shining star. Amazing service. We left very very full. The drink pairings were nice. I d only change the fact that they mixed too many types of alcohol. We had a cocktail, orange wine, beer, sparkling wine, red wine, a shot of hard alcohol, and then dessert wine. All were delicious (except the red wine pairing) but it made for a bit of an upset stomach and rough morning. If you have the opportunity to go, definitely do so! I cannot wait to eat there again.
Great experience, we ve tried a tasting menu! Foie gras is from another world
Absolutely phenomenal. The February sugar shack menu is out of this world and the friendly, on point service rounds out a truly delightful experience.
Outstanding food and service. Informal. Sadly not the most glamorous part of town!!
We have eaten many times at St Lawrence over the years and it is our favourite Vancouver restaurant. We prefer the previous a la carte menu over the current preset menu. The food is still consistently spectacular, but the overall experience is not as enjoyable as when ordering a la carte. Perhaps just a bit too much food on the preset menu compared to being able to regulate it personally on a la carte. Will affect whether we continue to frequent St Lawrence if preset is the only choice.
First of all it s not a French restaurant and this was my mistake it s Quebec cuisine and it s very different. Second, I had high expectations considering Michelin star and ratings as well as pricing. To be honest the food was not bad but it didn t quite live to those expectations. The duck dish was totally botched but the rest was ok, not much fantasy there as you would expect. Regarding the service it was great but the servers continue to bump into my back all the time. I know the place is quite small but they should leave some space for walk through. Overall I m not coming back because the food is not on par with the hype this restaurant gets - it s overpriced too.
Had a fantastic prefix dinner experience great freindly staff and amazing food it was about 7 courses all delicious
I have been meaning to go for 8 months - pleased that they were able to move around my reservation - very appreciated. However! You need to pre-pay for dinner! And the pushed wine pairing - was never! Explained for price and was over 300 extra dollars just for two people! The worst was when presented and responded to the bill - well of course? ! Very arrogant restaurant! There were bits that were good regarding food - but the blob of Boursin cheese for amuse bouche and the very gamey ! Lamb and the other deep fried item - were way too rich that one couldn t eat and I have eaten a lot of French and Quebec food. It wasn t the best French food in Vancouver as Le Crocodile is far superior. One server was lovely but another was way too rude and arrogant. The delivery of the 300 plus bill for wine pairings was so so terrible that my Mom became quite upset and their response ruined any experience of the evening. - all they had to do was explain the extra plus 400 dollars prior to ordering ( wouldn t have added !) The arrogance of the staff is coming out and the place won t last with such an attitude. Go to Le Crocodile for good French food! And you won t have to pay outrageous prices for wine pairing.
February tasting menu. Every thing was very maple syrup forward, many courses too sweet. Told pretentiously We. Do. Not. Have. Vodka as if it was some sort of dirty spirit unfitting for a martini , only botanical gin . As if fine vodka is not made in both Quebec and France. I will not rush back.
Small restaurant with only tasting menu but definitely live up to its Michelin star reputation. Apart from the tasting menu, we also ordered a couple more dishes for sharing. Every dish was a real treat and tasty.
Best place Ive ever been to. The tasting menu at St. Lawrence was incredible. The way they created each dish and presented them to their customer was well done. Every single ingredient they used in the dish complimented each other, providing a burst of flavors you would not generally experience. The server was attentive and provided excellent service. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys new experiences and adores food.
Thoughtful food I went there at the end of December for the tasting menu to treat myself for the year. I didnt take photos for the food because it would neglect the greatness of the delicacy and the dedication of the chefs team. The menu was presented at the end of the meal.
Best Birthday dinner ever;!! Highly recommend if you have a special occasion.
I celebrated my sisters birthday at the restaurant with my family. We were all pleasantly surprised with a cozy bistro setting and elegant french cooking. My favorite dish was the Flan de foie gras. I usually dont enjoy duck liver but it was very refreshing to enjoy it with the maple syrup aspic. We were then served with a few fish courses and our main was smoked venison. Well executed but familiar taste. My least favorite dish was the amuse bouche (palate cleanser) after the venison which was artichoke ice cream with sturgeon caviar. I have never had caviar after a heavy meat dish. Overall, i really enjoyed the meal and would say it is worth the $149 tasting price.
Dinner at St. Lawrence was a really fun experience for us! The servers were all very friendly and attentive, and they made sure we were content after every course. This restaurant only has a tasting menu, and every course was a surprise so we had no idea what was coming next. It was amazing how the servers would explain everything in so much detail (including the food and drink pairings) to us so we knew what we were eating/drinking. The courses also arrived rather quickly, even though the entire experience took around 2.5 hours. The only thing for us was that the food didn t fit our personal preferences although they certainly offered new flavours. Atmosphere-wise, it wasn t as formal or fancy as other Michelin stars, which we really enjoyed, and the restaurant gave off a really friendly and welcoming vibe. Eating there was a new experience and I d recommend this restaurant for those who want to try something new!!
Amazing food and service. The best French cuisine Ive had in Vancouver. Will definitely keep this restaurant on my list for my next special occassion.
For meals that cost more than 80$ a person. This was the worst one food wise I have had. My meal was 120$ plus a mandatory 20% gratuity for 2 people which is kind of weird. I enjoyed 1/4 of the dishes. The rest were bland and underwhelming. For being at the price it is, good reviews and having a star, I dont know how it went so wrong. Service and presentation was excellent but its like putting lipstick on a pig.
Our friend Invited us (my husband, daughter & I) to dine here, and it was quite an enjoyable experience; the food was exquisite and the presentation super, also the wait staff was very attentive to our needs. This restaurant has a Michelin star and we think is probably one of the best in Canada. Vegetarian options: Poached Salmon in Court Bouillon was delicious. They have several vegetarian options. Parking: It is located in downtown east side, be aware that you are a little bit close to a part of Vancouver that doesn t have too much appeal.
Everything was soooo good. Honestly I am not a big fan of french food in general but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service was here. I m normally very picky with the way my dishes are cooked but my first visit was very impressive that I went back and celebrated my birthday here. I will definitely be back again as their menu locates very frequently!
Pretentious
The average Google rating of 4.7 based on 1000+ reviews speaks for itself. Great place to enjoy a memorable night over two hours of delicious small Quebecois dishes arriving at the table every 10 minutes or so. The service was naturally as good as one can expect for this Michelin starred restaurant. We told one waiter that someone in our party was celebrating his birthday, after which every server greeted him with a happy birthday during the meal. Everyone was happy to strike up a casual and friendly conversation as well. If you want a great night out over French/ Quebecois food, this spot is a perfect choice!
Absolutely amazing dinner great atmosphere
We enjoyed thoroughly. Restaurant always busy. Lots of street parking.
Took my mother here for a 70th birthday and being no stranger to a Michelin starred restaurant I had high expectations, which I m happy to say were met on every level. Located in a pretty rough area of the city but once inside (they will make you wait outside if you re early, so arrive on time) the food is exquisite. The tasting menu offered a superb mix of modern French dishes with a few updates on classic recipes, as well as a few house specialties. Flavours were all top tier and service was impeccable with friendly and knowledgeable staff, just attentive enough without being pestering. Overall a flawless meal. No advisories.
We went to St. Lawrence for a friend s birthday and left absolutely enthralled with this restaurant.
What an incredible experience. The food was fantastic and even beyond what youd expect from somewhere with such accolades. Our server, Chris, was charming and funny, but more importantly, he had the perfect recommendation to pair with each course. We put ourselves completely in the staffs hands, and they did not disappoint. It was a truly exceptional dinner, and we cant thank the team there enough.
Empty .. as a for the area was beautiful Food
Birthday for my husband. They were informed that twice, but no candle on any dessert. Disappointed. Also when we book the table online, were forced to pay 20% tips upfront, we expect better service.
I came to this restaurant exact 2 years ago. It was my birthday too. So I had a deep impression, I remember the food was quite good when they had a la carte on the menu. This time, they have the set menu and we had to prepay WITH the 20% gratuity, the server at the bar shouldnt have served us. He is not capable to serve clients when he needs to make drinks. Food: the small dishes were actually better. We ordered both selections from the menu so I can share with my wife and taste more. But the main course wasnt up to standard, Once they got the Michelin, their quality dropped.
As if this place needs my review. It s fantastic. Food, atmosphere, ingredients, recipes and service check, check and check. First time I ve been served the palate cleanser before dessert though and not before the main. Super weird, but it was good nonetheless. I have to say the desserts were not the strength of this place in general. There is no disappointment here though. The experience is wonderful.
I came in weary, after a very long day, and sat at the bar. What a joy to be taken care of by true masters of their craft: from the chefs, the sous, the bartender, to the host Everyone exuding world-class pride and passion. So proud that St. Lawrence exists in Vancouver. Don t listen to the rubes who complain about the service charge, or whatever else. It s standard practice now for many restaurants who care about their employees. Thank you for a beautiful evening. Consistently, every time.
Hands down the best restaurant in the city. The food, the service, the atmosphere - it cannot be beaten. And this is someone who has gone to the other Michelin Star restaurants. They are all great, but theres something undeniably special about St. Lawrence.
Amazing, delectable food! Went here for my boyfriends birthday and we were well taken care of! Highly recommend. Will definitely be coming back, taking my mother here for her birthday.
A true fine dining experience! My husband and I spent the holiday weekend in Vancouver and this dinner was the highlight of the trip. Our server was knowledgeable about each dish and selected ideal wine pairings for us throughout the meal. The depth of flavor for nearly every bite was incredible.
service from staff was awesome as expected from a Michelin starred restaurant. Chef Poiriers creations were incredible. came in thinking i was getting a three-course meal but ended up with that plus several other incredible side dishes. the fermented tomato tart was absolutely amazing. my experience was expensive but absolutely worth it. id highly recommend and would definitely come back next time im in Vancouver.
This place felt like we were over at someones home and they cooked our food with love! Every single bite was delicious! The staff was very knowledgeable and suggested excellent wine parings. The cocktail menu is small and well curated. Fabulous place for a special date night or just a memorable meal.
One of the best restaurants in Vancouver! The food is a delightful mix of French and Québécois cuisine. Everything was absolutely perfect, and I was pleasantly surprised by how exceptional their offerings were. I highly recommend trying their cocktails; they are truly unique and unlike anything you can find elsewhere in Vancouver. Tips for those coming from outside of Vancouver: I recommend arranging for an Uber or taxi to get to this restaurant because it s a Vancouver special gem. With all due respect, this restaurant is a must-visit, even in this special area.
Food was good, theres a long wait between each course tho
Amazing food, drinks, and service. I can see why this place has a Michelin star!
St Lawrence did not disappoint, a small intimate restaurant with friendly and professional service. 3 course menu with a number of specials and add on dishes avaliable. French cuisine expertly prepared and with some serious skill. The quality of produce and flavours produced in dishes won me completely over.... Cant wait to go back.
A wonderful dining experience, excellent food, impeccable service - now move the restaurant to a better area of the downtown!
Such a special & yummy experience. Highly recommend! The menu is uniquely curated and extremely delicious. We rave about our experience!
favourite restaurant in the whole city hands down. We go every year on our anniversary, it never disappoints
They do tasting menu only for dinner. Great experience and excellent service.
I will start this review by saying that I would have awarded 5 stars before they received the Michelin star. It feels like after they got the Michelin rating, the owner is expecting more money for less. It used to be you get a 4 course meal for a fixed price and you would be full of food. Now you get a 7 course dinner, but the servings are so small that you will still be hungry by the time you have paid the bill. And by the way, the cost per person has gone up as well. So basically you will pay over a hundred bucks for this culinary experience, but youll want to order a pizza by the time you get home because youre still hungry. Im not saying that the food was bad - in fact, it was delicious - but customers should consider what their money could buy them at any other restaurant.
Arrived a bit early for my dinner reservation and was asked to wait outside because the restaurant was jam packed. Got kinda pissed as I had to wait out in the rain for about half an hour...totally ready to deduct stars from my review later. Yet, the food was so exemplary it took away all of my resentment and replaced it with awe. They serve a 7 course tasting menu which seems a lot, yet the portions are adequate and easy to finish... The appetizer including the lamb and consommé was truly divine and the foie gras accompaniment took my breath away. Have to say, the best foie gras Ive ever had! The vegetarian course involving rutabaga, however, didnt live up to my expectations, it tasted bland and took me some effort to finish it, but I can overlook that. The scallops were artistically shaved and served with garlic oil, the duck was well made too, reminded me of my visit to Paris. The dessert with a decadent pumpkin cake was wonderful! I recall wanting to cancel my visit after a long day at work but Im glad I didnt :)
This was not dining out. This was a culinary experience. Highly recommend.
Offers a set course meal inspired by Québecois and French cuisines. The dishes have a lot of thought put in and changes with the seasons, offering a unique tasting experience. Dishes are revealed with each course of the meal and explained by the staff, and a menu of the dishes you had for the meal is presented at the end. The dress code is not very strict (the restaurant aims for an elevated-yet-approachable feeling) , but it wouldnt hurt to dress up for the nice occasion. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and we had a lovely time! Arrive on time - you are able to be seated early if there is ample space, but in the case that there is no space there is not a lot to do close by. Parking is mostly street parking, as well as a paid lot belonging to another business across the street. I will only share a photo of the outside to not spoil the dishes you may get. Treat yourself to a nice meal here!
The best mocktail drink pairing experience in Canada
Four of us visiting from OR and Texas had an amazing experience. The food was exceptional and delicious. The entire experience from service to explanation to taste was outstanding! Food : 5/5
The environment and service are both very good. However, the food is not amazing and doesnt hit my mark... overall its pretty good.
Exceptional tasting menu and a wonderful experience.
One of our favorite restaurants. The menu changes monthly. The food and service have always been exceptional
An absolute treat! We had an absolutely wonderful experience. Between the impeccable service from our wait staff (Chris I m pointing to you buddy) and the delectable entrees/wine, we couldn t have been happier.
The menu, ingredients and flavours were perfect for this time of year. The amuse Bouches were also delicious. Service was friendly, attentive and all the dishes were explained well. The food came out at a good pace, not rushed but also we weren t waiting too long for the next dish to come along. A really nice atmosphere which was cute, and elegant without being stuffy. You re given a copy of the tasting menu to take home with you, which is nice. I won t post a photo so the surprise isn t spoiled.
Honestly .. Reasonable food but nothing to write home about. Very scripted service. Nice enough people and ambience but would not recommend. Price is irrelevant , but certainly not great value.
This place is incredible. Weve made the trip several times from Seattle just to visit this restaurant. While the neighborhood its in is rough, the ambience, food, and service are all top notch. Ambience: Quaint and homey. It feels like a small, French country house inside. It probably seats no more than 40-60 people at a time. At night its fairly dim but not too dark. The option of dining area to chefs kitchen to bar is nice as each offers a different experience. For a more intimate setting choose the dining area. For a more food centric area choose the chefs counter. For a more interactive experience choose the bar. Weve been enjoying the dining area recently but our first experience was with a Frenchman bartender at the bar who was delightfully interesting to speak to and made great food recommendations. Food: For us, theres no better French (technically Quebecoise) food in the northwest. There is, simply, nothing like St. Lawrence in Seattle. It strikes a wonderful balance of technical, delicious, and fulfilling. Many high end restaurants touch on an extreme element of cuisine but rarely bring it all together. Yes, the food is technical but, as an average foodie, I dont feel out of my element eating it. Its like something my grandmother would make but with the skill and ingredients of the very best chefs. Service: As expected for a restaurant of this caliber. Its not Vegas ridiculous where youll have a sommelier addressing your $1k+ wine needs but thats expected given the price. I prefer it this way. The good but not absurd service adds to the local, realistic vibe to the restaurant (but you can still get a $1k+ bottle of wine). While its always subjective this is my fiances and my favorite restaurant. We drive across the border once or twice a year and always hit St. Lawrence when we can grab reservations. Weve been to some of the most expensive restaurants in the U.S. (Eden Hill, Barrys, Hay-Adams, etc) and none of them have impressed us like St. Lawrence. Highly recommended.
Hello - Was really looking forward to our meal at the restaurant last night after paying ahead $300. My wife, whose birthday it was, was expecting something out of this world. She is from India and has a great deal of culinary experience. She thought from the web-site and the Michelin Star rating that we would be treated to a heavenly meal, but we were sadly disappointed. Although the quality and taste of the food was superb the quantity was so low that even after the full Chefs Table meal, we were both still hungry. I dont understand why there is a trend among certain restaurants to give you such tiny dishes - all looking terrific - but not enough calories to fill your belly! We came home and had some chicken thighs that we had previously prepared and opened a 2nd bottle of champagne in order to feel more satisfied. I have no complaints about the quality of the food or the service which is very good. The issue is with the amount of food served. ITs not likely that my wife and I will come to the St Lawrence for special occasions in the future - much more likely to try Joe Fortes or even the Banana Leafs 7 course dinner. Disappointed! Michael and Jeroo
Perfect!!
Dinner at St Lawrence is fabulous.
St. Lawrence provides a five-star dining experience and lives up to its Michelin rating. We felt like we had been transported to Europe as soon as we sat down, and it only got better from there. We were served a surprise multi-course tasting menu that was executed to perfection. My partner has some dietary restrictions, and they were able to accommodate her with advance notice (48 hours notice required for any dietary restrictions). Our amuse bouche was a delightful puff pastry with Boursin cheese. A warming squash soup came next, which was followed by a kanpachi crudo with the most delectable uni sauce. The main was a grilled striploin with smoked beets and porcini puree. We concluded the meal with an excellent French toast dessert. We received a complimentary goodie bag, which included a sampling of mignardises and a dry BBQ rub. We really appreciated this final touch to our meal. We opted to do the beverage pairing with our tasting menu, which was an additional $75 per person. We thought the beverage pairing was good value for money; we received approximately five wines plus one cider each. The beverage pairings were thoughtful, and enhanced the tasting menu. We also noted that the beverage menu contains multiple non-alcoholic/mocktail options (including the option to do a non-alcoholic beverage pairing with the tasting menu). The interior of the restaurant also deserves a mention. It is warm and cozy, with vintage art and classic Bistro-style wooden tables and chairs. We thought the interior really complimented the food and overall vibe of the restaurant: classic, warm and unpretentious. Last but not least, the service was exceptional. Our service was personable and extremely knowledgeable about wine. She ensured our glasses were never empty, and had amazing recommendations. This was a true dining experience, and easily one of the best meals weve had in Vancouver. Dietary restrictions: They were able to provide a fully pescatarian tasting menu for my partner with 48 hours notice. If you have other dining restrictions, we recommend emailing the restaurant to inquire prior to booking.
5/5, 10/10, and 100/100!! Best dinner out weve had in a looong time! Delicious and seasonal food paired perfectly with beverages. A+++ service makes this cozy and friendly little place a MUST DO in Vancouver! Food
We were fortunate to secure a last-minute table while on the waiting list, and serendipitously, we were seated at a spacious table, providing an extra level of comfort. The restaurants cuisine was outstanding, featuring meticulously crafted and innovative dishes. My husband chose the wine pairing with the tasting menu, enhancing our culinary experience. Our young waitress, whose name unfortunately escapes me, was truly exceptional. Her attentiveness and kindness played a pivotal role in the success of our evening. She was remarkably attuned to our needs, contributing significantly to the overall memorability of the night. A heartfelt thank you to her and the restaurant team for creating such a delightful atmosphere.
The way various courses were served, the expected two-hours window didnt allow for cognacs / coffees after the dinner. We were asked to leave our table, and were ushered to a small counter by the door. The optional foie gras course didnt arrive as an appetizer but was served just before the dessert. The main courses - trout and striploin - were superb.
My partner and I had the tasting menu. Ive had tasting menus in many restaurants across Vancouver, and this was the first time I left one still hungry, which is disappointing for $125 plus tax and gratuity on top per person. Despite the small quantity, the food was good, and was as you might expect from a fine dining French restaurant. Service was excellent otherwise. I was very disappointed in our seating arrangement. My partner and I were at a small table for two, with another small table for two just inches away from us. When the party of two at that table joined a few courses into our meal, they were quite literally shoulder to shoulder with us, and we were left hearing every word of each others conversations. That spoiled the evening, and was far more disappointing than the small quantity of food served in the tasting menu. It seems as if our tables arrangement was unique in the restaurant, as no one else was like ours, and Im not sure if that was an off night or just a generally terrible choice by the restaurant.
Unbelievable dining experience! Everything was wonderful. Great service, fabulous food and a charming location.
Beautiful tasting menu featuring creative French cuisine. The pacing was good, not rushed. Although if you intend to chat a lot during the meal, be aware that seating times are limited to a time limit. Mostly delicious and on point with the cooking and presentation. Service was impeccable, both friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend and will try again when the seasonal menu changes.
Always a lovely time when we go! Staff are very friendly and welcoming and service is great. The restaurant is so cute and I love the decor. Food is exceptional. We have loved each dish we have ever had here. The most recent visit tonight with the new tasting menu format wowed us! A must visit for sure
Size of the food is small but the price is high
The quintessential Quebec experience. Michelin-starred restaurant that fully deserves it. Incomparable; the service, the atmosphere and of course, the dishes are perfect. An unforgettable experience that reminds us of Quebec with a British-Columbian touch.
Don t forgot the cook book. I got an autographed one. Easy recipes and fancy ones. Amazing food. Caviar on sunchoke ice cream? Such great wine pairing. Don t skip
Update 2023 -tasting menu - despite the concerns I had with the Michelin star awarded, the restaurant has maintained their stellar quality and pursuit to excellence in terms of their combination of ingredients, sourcing, and adaptations. If anything I think they have done even better in terms of their service and food quality since the last time I had visited (pre-michelin). Pairings of wines were fine, and the food progressions have been better. There has been moments where I would have wished for a touch of acidity, d/t the heaviness of many of the dishes. Other than that, the meal was excellent, and am looking forward to the next visit. Tldr: amazing service, with great ambience and tasty food. The key thing is that service is just top notch. Not only are you being helped by your main server, but also other servers and staff. As for the food, some of the highlights included the sauces (sauce normade, charcutiere sauce, and bouillabaisse) and the garnishes (pickles, tenderness of the seafood, and Joel Robuchon pomme puree, homemade breads). However, some dishes were slightly unbalanced in my opinion. For example, the escargot were tender and earthy, but was overly heavy due to the puff pastry. Another example is the salt level, especially in the quenelle dish (I found the quenelle a bit too salty for my liking...which wasnt helped by the country ham on top). Things I would recommend for sure is the pork chop and the bouillabaisse. And definitely dont forget to add the pork rinds...they were just amazing. Overall, a great dinner that reminded me of a bit of Montreal.
