Carlino Restaurant in Vancouver

I ve been to a lot of restaurants and this experience was one I will never forget. Great vibe, amazing service, and the best food. My boyfriend and I did the tasting menu and got 6 courses for a very good price ($90) each, especially considering a plate goes for $40-$60 alone. The squid ink pasta with lobster and the steak with house-made gnocchi were the stars of the show. Please try it. The service was incredible, we never had to wait if we needed something and they picked up on everything immediately. Most importantly, we were never rushed or felt like the courses came too fast. We had a night I will cherish forever and will continue to go back.

Had such a nice time here celebrating an anniversary. The staff were amazing, and the food and drinks were so good! Highly recommend their seasonal chai cocktail and the ravioli. Also loved the atmosphere of the place with the live music

Ive had brunches here and they were ok but the dinner menu is truly Michelin star level. Decor is decent, great location within the Shangri-la on Alberni. You get to walk up the stairs lined by bamboo plants, which I always thought was mysterious and fun. Why the one star? Well it has to do with management. We walked in early on a Friday night and were lucky to get a table for 2hrs. The other party showed up 30min early and we had to be moved to the bar, which we happily accommodated as we were close to finishing anyways. Management comped one tiramisu for the three of us, which was a small but nice gesture I guess. But when I checked the $300+ bill next day, drinks we didnt order were added to the bill. None of us ordered anything new at the bar. I reached out to management politely next day and spoke about the issue, never heard back. Apparently integrity or doing the right thing doesnt mean anything these days. Too bad because the food was amazing, if it was just rating on food alone it would have been 5 stars. If you really want to try out the food (bone marrow, bigoli, lamp chops were all good) make sure you make a reservation and double check the bill.

Was getting tired of bland restaurant-grade food at home. This is a place with high-end home-grade cooking at a restaurant. A true rarity and comes very close to the calibre of my home cooking. 2024-Dec-14: Server was unable to sell me effectively on any of the signature cocktails, so I kept $25 in my pocket. Was quizzed with two questions in the beginning to give us a very shallow starting point that came at it from the wrong direction. Gnocchi would have a more elevated texture and flavour if it utilized snails instead of or in addition to mushrooms.

It was a good experience with work. The waitress forgot about us at the end, but overall, it was great. They have a huge wine selection as well.

The restaurant s setting is pleasant, with a warm atmosphere that creates a welcoming vibe. However, the overall dining experience was disappointing. While the service was friendly, it lacked attentiveness, and we were forgotten at one point. Additionally, we had to point out an issue with one of the dishes, which was promptly corrected, but this should not have been necessary. The food, though not bad, lacked refinement and failed to stand out. It s a disgrace because the place has potential, but there are still too many aspects that need improvement to make it truly remarkable.

Good food and service.

This is a god-like restaurant. Although the portion is a little small and the price is a little high, it is definitely worthy of its taste. There are resident singers on site and the atmosphere is very good. Unfortunately, I have other plans this time, so I just ate a main meal in a hurry. Next A must-try from the appetizers to the side dishes, I look forward to my next visit

If you have children simply don t go there! They don t have a kids menu but they told us they can prepare kids meals. Sure they did prepare kids pasta but the pasta came when we about to leave. I gave a star just because the waiter did everything he could to please us, but honestly I would not recommend the restaurant.

Had a lovely birthday dinner with my mom, Sarah was fantastic and did a great job of listening to my mom s embarrassing stories about me. A really beautiful room and the food was fantastic

We went to Carlino s for my wife s birthday. I want to appreciate Holly our host and chef Bryan. We had requested halal meat and a chicken dish which is off of their menu. Julien the manager even furnished a last minute request. An excellent experience. Good job guys and I will definitely be back for more.

Tasting menu was divine, and the sommelier s description of the wine was definitely a stand-out for us. Loved hearing a story about the wine maker and region. Great atmosphere.

This weekend my husband and I booked a suit at the Shangri-la Vancouver after our massages we ordered the rigatoni and the chicken. Was about a hour late and the pasta was cold and uncooked and the chicken was very small and the vegetables were burt. Unable to eat ..

Went there for brunch Sat with girlfriends they had live music. Our server service was above and beyond.

Lauded as Michelin recommended, easy to see why, absolutely beautiful in its presentation. Hostess was efficient, server was friendly and patient. Food was lackluster somehow, missing major components of texture, flavor. The salts and fats didnt hit right. Not impressed. The pasta, while I understand it is more to taste being fresh, was extremely chewy, without much flavor from the sauce. I had to confirm with the server -is it supposed to be that chewy- which was answered in the affirmative. Seemed unimaginative to need to wonder if something is meant to be that way, instead of it be presented in such a fashion as being able to enjoy the dish outright. Part of me wants to return randomly a second time, order the same dishes, as I wonder if that was actually how it was supposed to be that way. Either way has a ton of potential, is extremely beautiful, with good staff. Just extremely confused about the outcome on my visit.

Sad that such a beautiful place with such nice food is being served by clueless teenagers. Utterly graceless service.

Came here for a private dining event. The four course menu was phenomenal.

The seasoning could have been more refined, and the risotto was unfortunately overcooked. Portion sizes were on the smaller side, and the service leaned toward a casual approach, which felt inconsistent with the overall dining experience.

A bit expensive for just pasta but the raviolis here are totally worth it! Staff has been amazing with me every time I go, they do awesome recommendations too.

This thank you is well overdue. We were there back in mid October for a team dinner and had the privilege of Sarah taking care of us and she was incredible! Her knowledge of the drink and food menus and her suggestions second to none. The food was some of the best I have ever had! If you want a lovely night out in a lovely restaurant with great people and wonderful food - I highly recommend them!

A little delayed review but it s been 2 months and I m still talking about my amazing experience here ! From the management to the service to the food everything is top notch. Every bit of service of attention to detail and comforting. It felt like I got welcomed into their home I never once felt forgotten and they went above and beyond.. even with all our random requests. Carlino defs had everyone one on our party amazed!

Usually not very busy,nice for eating in a quiet place. Service is good and prices are comparable to similar restaurants. I found chairs were not very comfortable Parking: Uber drivers find it hard to locate the drop off location on the lower level, which is kind of hidden.

Terrible food, and its presentation is very bad. You can still see the plastic wrap poorly wrapped around the glass. What s worse the service is just bad. They have some weird sass and attitude. If you happened to stay in the hotel, it s better off to just not include the breakfast, it s not worth it. They count every other side order and give you a check at the end. Oh extra charge for side order? They didn t even warn you when you say add it. They don t have a regular check-up in the industry (like how s the food) and they make it like very transactional. Totally not recommended. Yes it makes sense extra cost extra money. However, it s ethics that you and your colleagues should warn about it and give us a heads up; instead of yelling to the customer you will be billed tmrw. This is just poor service. And with Michelin recommended this definitely is very very underwhelmed in terms of service and food. And what makes it worse is, it stays in Shangri La, a renown 5 star hotel, Carlino just made it look bad. :)

This restaurant is a hidden gem! So thankful we dined here. We had a group of 8 and I was a little hesitant about sharing plates, but after experiencing the different dishes, I would not have it any other way! The food was out of this world, with so much creativity, depth, and flavor. The service was outstanding - our waitress was Lisa who was so professional, knowledgeable, and personal. The atmosphere was perfectly elegant, and also spacious. We will remember this night and will absolutely be back!!!

I ordered 4 dishes, and after 2 hours, I just had one side dish for now. I think I might just starve to death here. Actually we are celebrating my wifes birthday here, we were happy at the begining and thanks for the experience here, we had a starving birthday. I know Im not qualified for a ITALIAN FINE DINING restaurant. I might learn Italiano and get a Italian PR to be qualified for this restaurant next time. Thanks from Italy.

Service was excellent for sure! Food was ok I expected better, iv had much better Italian food at other places . Atmosphere was ok, but again I somehow expected it to be nicer .. I feel like it needs an update.

This is my second visit to this Italian restaurant located in Carlinos at Shangri-La Hotel. The service is very attentive and considerate. This time I tried their scallop, homemade pasta, Lobster squid ink pasta, steak, duck breast. Fish, beef carpaccio, salad, dessert Tiramisu and American coffee. As always, the food is good. If you have children, they can also design alcohol-free cocktails just for them. Their ingredients are all fresh local and seasonal ingredients. The menu also changes frequently. The wine selection is on the expensive side.

The service provided by Sarah and her colleagues was excellent. The food was delicious and well paced. Over a week after arriving back in the UK this restaurant has made a lasting impression on me. The old fashioned with Woodford reserve is also a delight. Thank you Sarah for a memorable evening, where you made us feel special and served delicious food from your talented colleagues in the kitchen.

My first visit for brunch

We had a delicious evening meal here whilst on a 4-day stay in Vancouver. The food is clearly fresh, expertly prepared and full of flavour. Our server, Sarah, was attentive but not overbearing. The relaxed vibe of the restaurant made it even more special. We wish we were local so we could come back to try some of the other dishes!

In desperate need of some wholesome Italian food. Thought that any place attached to and hopefully vetted by, the Shangri-La Hotels would meet my expectations! Alas, the hamburger offering on the menu immediately questioned my choice of diner. More diner than Italian it was! Focaccia was a salted version of a Madeira sponge cake. The smattering of Burrata struggled to remain visible on top of a flaking radicchio and green salad. The rigatoni al ragù had a tasty sugo but the al dente request obviously fell on deaf ears. If you have to request al dente it can t be Italian! Mi dispiace, but don t anglicize Italian food in an attempt to cast your net wider - you cannot be a pasta, pizza and surf n turf!

Great selections, amazing staff a great time with family

Everyone enjoyed the food. Great service. Sunday night they had live music. Frico was amazing if you like fried cheese (who doesn t?). Cjarsons was a hit as was the rissoto funghi. Definitely will be coming back

We both have been very sick right after the restaurant, probably due to the lamb that wasnt cooked enough even though we asked for it to be cooked again after it was sent to us almost raw.. I dont recommend at all, food was mid, not good enough for a michelin restaurant.

I have enjoyed dining at this restaurant on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and professional, and the food and ambience are always on point. Great for groups and special occasions.

I m still dreaming about my feast at Carlino s. The steak sandwich was a behemoth of flavor and texture. It was like a juicy, tender love letter to meat lovers everywhere. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the bread was the perfect vessel for all that savory goodness. It was easily enough food for two, maybe even three, but I bravely soldiered on, determined to conquer this culinary mountain. And then there were the meatballs. Oh, the meatballs. I m not sure if they were made by angels or seasoned chefs from another planet, but they were out of this world. Tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, they were the perfect accompaniment to the already impressive sandwich. I m convinced Carlino s has a secret meat-loving wizard in the kitchen. I left Carlino s with a full belly and a happy heart. This place is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good food. I m already planning my return trip, armed with a bigger appetite and a serious case of meat cravings.

Here with a big group for a special occasion. They recommended we order more appetizers because apparently it wouldn t be enough for us. It ended up being too much for us. The appetizers were delicious but took away our appetite for the entree. The steak was great. The pasta dishes were hit or miss

Its suitable for brunch. Its a bit salty for Korean tastes, but for a light meal, its a good location and price within walking distance of lodging downtown.

Great breakfast! Awesome atmosphere!

We chanced upon dining at Carlino s for our weekend brunch. Food was very good, service was super, and we enjoyed every food and drink we ordered. At that time, we had a charcuterie, focaccia, and some skewers. I got coffee and the boys got their fruit shakes. We were serenaded with a live music. It s a place where if you want to find a quiet time on a weekend, this is the place to be.

We live upstairs of this restaurant, This is my 2nd time coming here for dinner. the ambiance is amazing - cozy romantic vibes. The food is delicious. Our servers name was Sarah. She was the sweetest, most amazing server we have ever had. She was very outgoing and kind. Her recommendations were spot on - also she really made our dinning experience. Felt like sitting in an entrance lobby, the space made much less sense than it used to. The chair was also uncomfortable, rustic shall we say. Service was good, quick, friendly and efficient, but the order didnt arrive as specified. The food was also, although flavourful, dripping with fat and (for the price) a bit limp and uninspiring. Stars of the show were the potatoes, but on the whole a downgrade from the previous restaurant in the space.

Holly was bar-none one of the best servers we ve ever been served by. She was extremely knowledgeable about the wine & the food to the extent that she was able to recommend a similar meal based on an Instagram post of a older lunch special. She knew just when to chime in, we felt well taken care of. The food and drinks were fantastic too.

Not the best Italian food. Mediocre flavours and noodle selection. Aside from the Vongole, all the sauces were very basic. I dont think Ill be going back with all the amazing Italian restaurants we have in Vancouver.

I wanted to love this restaurant as it was our first time trying it out but it turned out to be a mixed experience. We went for a family Fathers day brunch but the menu was not the same as was reflected online which was the reason we went. Upon seating, we were told it was a new menu ... not as appealing. Food was average, nothing special as we were not even asked how we would like our eggs on ordering and it came with no salt. My daughters gnocci dish was too doughy. Service was friendly and pleasant, although, we never got our dessert menu after I expressed that we would order and therefore did not order any and instead walked to Thierry to indulge. Atmosphere is very pretty and elegant. Sadly, will not be returning.

This place is not on the street level. It is signed along the street but it is actually on the third floor. Take the stairs or elevator up. It is worth the effort. A very nice decor with great staff. I had breakfast there and it was very, very good. Will say the Americano could have had more punch. Really enjoyed the quiet yet vibrant vibe.

Fantastic pastas, all made in-house daily! We ordered a few dishes to share and enjoyed the pastas so much we had to add another one partway through the meal. Highly recommend the Cjarsons, the sweet and savoury combination is excellent! Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu as well. Service was generally good, but we mentioned an alcohol allergy while we were ordering, so it was disappointing when the black pepper jus on one of the dishes we ordered was silently changed to a red wine jus. Would recommend caution if you have serious allergies! Parking: Asked the host about parking and was told that the parking in the building is only for hotel guests? Not sure if this is accurate since there is also an Urban Fare in the building, but we stuck to street parking anyway

Carlino was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Our reservation was at 5:00 p.m. We arrived early, so I had no problem waiting until 5:00, but they didnt seat us until 5:10 and then promptly told us that we needed to be done with our dinner in 2 hours. If youre that busy, seat us on time. The next odd thing was that they didnt ask if we wanted anything to drink. We had two different servers help us at the beginning of the meal and neither asked it was just odd. Most of the food was very good but we started with the scallops which were not good. They were fishy .My husband will eat just about anything and after one bite of the scallops he said, thats enough of that. The Sable fish, on the other hand, was fantastic and I would eat that again anytime. as the evening went on and the restaurant got busier, It got pretty noisy but it wasnt terrible. For me, Carlino did not live up to its reputation but maybe they just had an off night.

I come here everytime I go to Vancouver, we love the happy hour with free salumi board! Wonderful deal, beautiful atmosphere, and great service. Drinks are a tad sweet.

We have been loyal fans of the Shangri-La Hotel for over 10 years. We love the distinctive decor style and delicious food. The newly renovated Carlino restaurant is even more cozy and comfortable. What we particularly love about this place is not only the delicious food but also the exceptional service from waitress Vana. Every time we come here, we see her busy figure and smile. As citizens of Vancouver and long-time customers of the restaurant, we are especially grateful for the efforts of the entire team. We will continue to support Shangri-La as always.

One of the worst service encounters I have ever received at an upscale restaurant - will not ever visit again. Also, if youre gluten-free or vegan, skip this place altogether. In mid March, my family and I made a reservation to go here for my Fathers special 60th birthday. We were all happy and looking forward to eating here - however we were not greeted with the same level of joy. Some members of our family have gluten free dietary restrictions, and our server did not accommodate to our questions about the menu and dietary restrictions at all - he just read out the menu like we were stupid. The server and kitchen did nothing to accomodate any gluten free requests. We were overall in a happy mood and tried to have nice light talk with our server and he was just plain obnoxious and had no intent to treat us with any happiness. He had an attitude with us right from the get go and completely ruined our mood for the evening. Throughout the night, our servers changed and there was a lapse in service as a result and they did not even let us know. The restaurant made no effort to cater to our special evening (even after we mentioned and notified the restaurant it was our fathers 60th). They offered us a birthday platter at the end which ended up being 4 very hard crackers that were not gluten-free. I advised the server of our dissatisfaction and they told me the manager would follow up with me after I provided my number. I have yet to receive that follow up. The food was nothing to rave about - there are definitely much better Italian restaurants with much better service, taste, and menu accommodation for similar prices around. Not worth the time and price.

Had a great large group event here. The staff were so accommodating and responsive, the food was DELICIOUS, and I very much enjoyed the wine pairing suggested by the sommelier.

Overall experience was ruined by my main waitress. I went yesterday for dinner with a friend and immediately after entering I could tell that the waitress did not like us very much. She was rude and short off the bat when asking us if we wanted water. To other tables around us when she first came, she introduced herself, was all smiling, and explained what kind of waters you offered, however for us she simply came over and said hi ladies, is water to start off fine with you guys. Then when it came to ordering, she was able to explain in detail what the specials were for tonight, what she recommended, the different types and much more. In contrast, for our table she simply asked are we ready to order. This is my first time in any restaurant being treated like this. Besides that, it was impossible to get service from her. After giving us the menu she disappeared for 20 minutes and didn t come back to check up on us until my friend had to get her attention. When the food came, we also took notice to how cold it was. In total between the two of us we had gotten three mains and all three were extremely cold. But during our whole dining experience she also never came to see how the food was. After clearing our table, she also had no intention to show us the dessert menu, whereas the table beside us received seamlessly after their table had been cleared. At first my friend and I wanted to see how long she would go to not notice us, but after 20+ minutes we could no longer wait and had to ask a passing by waitress for it instead. However, our original waitress came back with it instead, showing that she does have the time to manage her section. Once she gave us the dessert menu though, without explaining it or what type of special dessert for the day she once again left without saying a word. In contrast to table beside us who upon receiving the menu from her, got an explanation. Again, after getting the dessert menu, we waited for quite a while (10minutes) before she came back and said oh tonight we have xxx special then left without asking if we were ready to order (which we were) which lead us to wait another ~10 minutes before my friend caught her attention before leaving the table next to us when we were finally able to place our final orders in. I hate to have noticed this, however it is to note that all the tables around us that she took care of were of Caucasian descent whereas my friend and I were clearly of Asian descent and much younger. I myself work in the culinary field and would be appalled if one of my servers had treated a customer like this. Food wise, I feel like it was also not up to the standards. The risotto was way too salty, was extremely undercooked yet some parts were cooked okay (meaning it was extremely unbalanced), and lacked the taste of mushroom. The same thing with the squid ink pasta, it was definitely not al dente and was undercooked as well. Overall I am extremely disappointed and will not be coming again.

Many of the dishes are laughably bad. I dont think its an acquired taste thing. The sauce of the Francobolli is bitter and completely overpowers the braised veal. The seasonal mushroom risotto was so salty. Yes, the place is Instagram-worthy and the waitress who served us was very friendly, but the food is terrible and overpriced.

Carlino Restaurant features fabulous Italian cuisine and the welcoming by the staff and the atmosphere just set us up for a brilliant evening the ingredients in each portion of our meal..the pasta made in-house was delicious and every single bite felt that the ingredients had just been delivered we made a reservation and were pleased to do this ahead of our arrival a special evening on my birthday

Carlino is a place I ve never quite experienced before. We got welcomed and taken to our seats and then the 5* customer service carried on through out the night. We got menu recommendations on how to get the best tasting experience. Starter, pasta and the meat dishes are all incredible. Food is just amazing best Italian in the city. Aiden, Georgo ( I think ) were attentive and gave us great service throughout. If you want top quality food, friendly and warm service this is the place to go. Drinks were amazing and the whole experience is just different to anywhere else. Would highly recommend. I ll be back!

The food was amazing (the lemon ricotta cheesecake was next level), but the service was the real star - they paced the meal to perfection and worked as a team to take care of our table. Will absolutely be back next time I am in Vancouver!

The cocktails were amazing. The wine was amazing. The food, also amazing. Not to mention its absolutely beautiful inside.

Fai Tu - recommend

This is the perfect place for an upscale, yet cozy and intimate dinner. I absolutely loved this place when I visited last year for the first time and have been back a total of four times since I figured it s time to leave a review as my experience has always been 10/10. The food and drinks are all insanely good. There s a great variety of meats, seafood, and vegetarian options, and they are great portions. I do suggest sharing so you can try more dishes! Must try s are the squid ink pasta, as well as the pesto pasta if you are a pesto fan. The sablefish is amazingly balanced in flavour and perfectly cooked. If you can fit in dessert, the tiramisu is melt in your mouth. As for service, the team is like a well oiled machine. Although the restaurant is usually full, the entire team on the floor is attentive to each and every table. Every server is knowledgeable of the menu and very friendly and easygoing. Lisa Lisa Lisa, special s/o to her as I happened to have her as a server each time I visited! She s the cherry on top to making my dinners a memorable experience here. Today, we had Ryan as a server, and he was on par with the service I now look forward to, beyond the amazing food at Carlino. This is by far my favourite pasta place in Vancouver.

We came in to celebrate my cousins birthday and it was one of the best dining experience that we had! From the warm greeting right when you arrive to the restaurant to the full service experience the entire time! Our servers are amazing and made sure our needs are met. We all ordered Fai Tu! I highly recommend it as you get to taste different dishes instead of ordering one big portion

When staying overnight in Vancouver, we usually have lunch at Carlinos before travelling back home. Although the quality of the food and service had previously ranged from good to very good, this time there was a noticeable decline in both. To accompany our antipasto, we ordered olives and bread. The olives were described on the menu as marinated in lemon and herbs, but were completely tasteless, as if the marinade had just been applied. In addition, the bread was stale. Our main antipasto was Frico, which although good in the past, this time it was far too thick and the distribution of potatoes was not even, with them being placed only in the centre of the Frico. The next two courses included gnocchi and then sablefish, both of which were so salty that it was difficult to appreciate the other ingredients in the dishes. For dessert, we chose a combination of gelato and sorbetto. When it arrived, we discovered that the one of the chosen flavours, yuzu, was inexplicably replaced with coffee, and so it had to be returned to the kitchen for replacement. The service problems included having dishes served to us without any serving cutlery, and new courses delivered to us while the dirty dishes from the previous course were left behind until we called someone back to remove them. Considering that this is the only restaurant in an otherwise outstanding five-star hotel, it would appear that some additional diligence is badly needed in the kitchen and on the floor to sustain an acceptable standard.

Me and my friend haven t seen each other in awhile we were looking for a fun elegant restaurant and unfortunately the staff didn t make this happen. First of all for the price range, the food was under cooked and when we told the manager he gave off a very rude and unsettling nature that made us uncomfortable. We mentioned that the pasta was hard and he was arguing saying no that s the way we cook it and I am the manager and I asked you how food was and you didn t mention this after he said that my friend quickly responded with saying we took pictures we haven t even tried the food when you asked that I m Italian and I can tell you that this was not traditional pasta That s probably why nobody was in here.

One of the best dining experiences in town! Top notch service and food/drink in cozy and intimate surroundings yet nothing pretentious . This place is truly a gem! Every dish was prepared perfectly possibly the best beef/seafood/pasta combination I ever had. Our favorites include Capesante Gratinste (scallop appi) Bigoli al Nero (squid ink pasta with robster) and Tagliata di Manzo (ribeye with marrow) It was a bit on the pricy side but not outrageous for a special occasion meal. Great wine selection and decent cocktails. Making reservation (the earlier the better) is recommended to secure seating and popular dishes even on weekdays.

Was a ok restaurant, aged steak is good to chew, but the sable fish is a little bit too fishy

Tried Carlinos as part of dine out Vancouver, and were not disappointed. All the items were presented beautifully and deliciously. The Artic char and frigo are amazing and highly recommended. Nice atmosphere, but can be a bit noisy if full, and service was quick and generally attentive.

Came to Carlino s during happy hour, beautifully decorated, great ambiance. Happy Hour is pretty good if you re solely coming for drinks as there is not many food options available. However you get a free charcuterie board with your happy hour drinks. Service was fast and friendly , price is good . Highly recommend the dolceamare drink !

Carlino never fails! Consistent of good food and services all these years. Our tummies are full and satisfied, always coming here. The lighting isnt ideal to take food pictures however.

Tried their 4-course Dine Out Vancouver menu at $65/per person. As we were a group of 2, we ordered 1 of each item and shared (as each course had 2 options). The antipasti portions were large for an appetizer. The Frico (fried cheese and potatoes) was a bit heavy as a starter, but the Cavolo Nero & Endive salad was refreshing. The Primi options were carb heavy as either a risotto or gnocchetti, but very tasty. The Dolci came as advertised, with enhanced chocolate and lemon flavours in both the tart and cheesecake. Our favourite dishes were the Arctic Char, Cavolo Nero & Endive, and the Ricotta Lemon Cheesecake. The selection did not disappoint, and we started getting full by the third course! We even packed one of the desserts to-go. The food quality and service was incredible. Our server was friendly and attentive, and changed our plates/utensils between each course. Quiet ambience with low light and surrounding plants. We did have to put down a $20/per person deposit at reservation, which is reversed from your card when you arrive, and does not get deducted from your bill.

I had a good experience here. The atmosphere is amazing with great decor and friendly staff. The food is a bit expensive but I think it s expected given the location. We got olives and focaccia for appetizer. Olives were fantastic but focaccia was a bit too dense. I got the mushroom risotto and it was very good. The basil was crispy which added great texture and the rice was cooked perfectly. I would definitely come again for cocktail and more food.

Excellent all around experience. Convivial atmosphere with a good choice of music. Highlights of our meal were the arctic char, saffron risotto and Tuscan kale salad. Portion size was very good as well. Very friendly and professional service from our waitress (an older lady) and the sommelier who was knowledgeable and fun to interact with.

Overall had a good experience, the food was great, and the servers were nice, knowledgeable and helpful, however, we spent most of the meal without drinks. We got starters before we got our first drink, then our main arrived, no one had a drink, and no one had taken a drink order. We were all keen to have wine with our meal but we had to flag down the server to take our order while we all had food sat in front of us. Celebrated my birthday dinner there. Loved the setting, ambiance, atmosphere. Really has a different space and vibe from other upscale restaurants in Vancouver. The waitress was very knowledgeable and considerate. We ordered the squid ink pasta linguini with lobster and the roasted duck with beets. Portions are a bit small but the dishes were very tasty. The mocktail was really good and enjoyable. Also ordered a tiramisu to complete the meal. It was decent, but maybe i would recommend something else for dessert if you ve tried a lot of good tiramisu if your life. Overall i would recommend this place and would definitely go back to try to more dishes on the menu.

I had an amazing corporate Christmas luncheon here with my colleagues. Loving the interior with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The service was absolutely phenomenal. Our server, Brenda, took good care of our group, attentive and professional. She provided the proper etiquette for service and good recommendations on the drinks. However, the food variety was limited due to the group menu. I will definitely come back again to try the food on the regular menu.

We came here for a Christmas eve s eve brunch with friends. The place was lovely and cute. Our server, Brenda was amazing! She gave us solid recommendations for food and drinks. Brenda was also super attentive and came by to check on us. We ordered the board for 2 and a gnocchi dish. The board was great and included a little bit of everything for us to try. However, the gnocchi was a bit bland. Nonetheless, we really enjoyed ourselves at Carlino and Brenda made it so much more fun!

Food was excellent as per usual. Service attentive, and very kid friendly (they had crayons and special menu for kids).

Great vibe: atmosphere, service, and design. We booked our reservation in advance and drove into Vancouver same day. If you like Cabernet/Pinot Red Blend then a glass of Poggione Rosso Toscana is a good choice. We ordered the ricotta for an appetizer wow simply amazing, it s freshly made everyday and it s so airy. Served on an apricot flavored bread with beets and I must say it s like having a lightly-flavored cake for an appetizer. The insalada di cavolo (kale salad with caesar dressing) was one of the best kale salads I ve had. They break down the kale really well and also accompany it with adequate amount of cheese and a nice, crunchy texture. My wife ordered the risotto funghi and it was really good not too heavy but flavorful. Unfortunately the branzino was sold out so I ordered the brodetto di pesce (fish stew) with a customized sauce due to my shellfish allergy. Everything was really good and we would definitely return to try some of the other dishes.

Enjoyed lunch and brunch here on a recent stop through Vancouver, and experienced GM Lisa s superb knowledge of Italian wine. When I mentioned my favorite (obscure) grape she immediately produced a bottle! 3 wine stores in LA did not have it. Service was superb and we stayed hours more than intended. The ravioli was my favorite lunch item and the baked egg for brunch. Lisa, thank you for the local knowledge and experience!

One of our favourite new finds for breakfast. Delicious food - baked eggs is a winner! We have always had excellent, attentive service and will definitely return.

I needed to find a place for Christmas morning and ended up having brunch here. There werent a ton of options that morning so I wasnt expecting much in terms of the food but I was impressed with the service--Brenda was great and had some good recommendations. Ill definitely be back to try more of them. Anyone working on Christmas morning should get a raise, but especially her!

A party of six arrived last night (Dec 29) at 8 pm. We were seated behind the reception desk. The service was extremely slow, with significant delays between placing orders and waiter returns. Upon paying, the waitress unilaterally added a 25% tip. We only discovered this when checking our bills upon leaving. We were aware that a service charge of 20% would be applied given that we were a party of 6. However, the service charge was not added to the bill as it is customary for restaurants to do this with large parties. If Carlinos decided to disregard this rule and wanted us to tip based on our preference, then the waitress should not have unilaterally added the tip. I, thankfully, paid in cash and provided a 20% tip. Another person requested change, intending to tip separately, but the waitress deducted 25% from the change given back. This is unacceptable and a major concern for patrons dining here. Consequently, I plan to inform the media about these unauthorized charges. Fraudulent.

Great place good vibes the food was nice

Visited on Dec 31/23 and it was my first time. The greeting felt cold. One of the pastas was almost room temperature and the portions, relative to the prices, are way too small. We dined at the lounge; their tables are too small and the chairs way too short, so that aspect also doesn t match the prices. Nothing particularly wrong with staff but considering the prices they should be more attentive and genuine. Napkins were missing at the table.

It was amazing, the food was perfect. Excellent service with our server he did a great job with food/wine/cocktail pairing. The ambiance is sexy. Would definitely go again

Cuisine featured northern Italian dishes. We ordered fai tu which is their tasting option. A few of my favourites were the potatoes, tagliatelle, risotto finished with nonna s tiramisu. Our server Alex was exceptional; super knowledgeable and suggested the perfect cocktails for the tasting. Perfect for date nights.

I was lucky enough to visit this location two years ago before the re-branding. It was a truly magical dining experience. Although Carlino is more approachable, the flavours and execution were perfect. Food

Booked a reservation here to celebrate my partners birthday. I noted on the reservation that it was her special day as well as her dietary restriction. When we got there, and were seated, we quickly placed our orders and for my partners pasta main, we reminder the server about the restriction. She came back a few minutes later to say the pasta wasn t possible to make dairy free and left us with that. Well, can you recommend something similar? Where is the interaction that s supposed to warrant a default 18% tip? In the end, I asked for a pasta to be modified with another sauce and they did it but it turned out to be pretty bland and had no substance. I also don t think they read the reservation details because no one wished her a happy birthday. In the end, I was hopeful given the Michelin recommendation but turned out to be a disappointments.

Such a wonderful first experience. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and she was also kind enough to guide us through the food and drink menu. PS carpaccio is a must! We really appreciated the extensive Amari list and with Roberto s help we tasted some of the best. Can t wait for our next visit!

Had a company board meeting lunch for 11 people here and the staff was great setting up what we wanted. They do have a policy for $20 per person reservation with larger groups. Which is totally refunded upon arrival at the reserved time. They accounted any food allergy requests and everyone left full and happy. We will definitely book here in the future.

Was one of my favorite restaurants. Nice interior. Good atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff. Good food. One of the best Pasta and Duck Breast dish Ive ever had. The non alcoholic drinks options were super yummy. I recommend the Basil one.

Got the Italian baked eggs for breakfast. Was not disappointed. Very nice looking restaurant. Good ambiance. There was a guy singing and playing guitar, he was great!

The Market Grill used to be our favourite weekend brunch spot. I was happy when I discovered that Carlinos offers brunch. They renovated the patio area and enclosed it. We met our friend there and he was seated in this area. I did not like the new decor and wished that we had been seated inside the space that used to be the Market Grill. We chose Breakfast allamericana, and Porchetta sandwich. After finding out that I dont like garlic, the kitchen decided that they would not let me have the sausage (even though I intended to give it away). I was disappointed with the food and the experience, it was not as nice as the Market Grill.

Visiting my daughter in university, and we decided to pop in here to get out of the rain . So glad we did! We enjoyed happy hour beverages and charcuterie, and then had the most incredible meal!! Impeccable service, beautiful portions, and outstanding flavour!! Definitely a date night spot even if it s with your grown kid! Thank you so much!

Delicious food! I recommend the Cjarsons pasta and the Tagliata di Manzo! My girlfriend I loved it all! And you cant skip out on the tiramisu! Our server Alex was very friendly and very on point! 10/10 would come again!

The place is super nice and all but the food did not impress me very much.

Food was very good, server was good but you had to warm up to her--the second one. Revolving door of servers didnt help. Flavourful meal, indeed. Hostess was abysmal. Couldnt care less about being there. Awful demeanor. The room is huge and awkward decor. Tables are closerthanthis. Far too close. Makes for zero chance of private conversation. If your doing business, forget it. By and large a good enough experience but not in the il Giardino league. Id go back but I wouldnt hurry.

Perfect ambiance!

Had an excellent lunch here on 11/23/23. Everyone in our party left full and happy. Black truffle crusted Salmon was cooked perfectly and the gnocchi were exactly as they should be - the right balance of firm and tender with zero chewiness. Also really enjoyed the focaccia and olives we shared as a starter, and Tiramisu to finish - something you can get at virtually any Italian restaurant, but happy to say Carlinos is above average, and a good portion too. One very (very) minor issue - jackets fall of the chair backs and couldnt see a coat-stand.

Dinner was fantastic- nice mix of unique options very tasty everyone really enjoyed their dinners - food envy of each serving that arrived- very helpful with wine selection - busy nice environment and great service

Pricy

Came here for my partners birthday after booking a reservation (recommended to book one). It was busy and we had to sit in the waiting room. After being seated the waiter was friendly and we order drinks. The drinks were marvellous but on the higher price. We then order on entrees. I order the ink squid pasta with lobster and my partner order the pesto burrata pasta. It took close to 40 minutes for our food to arrive. For the price you pay the food was alright. A little underwhelming if anything. In the summer this would be an enjoyable establishment. However since it s a small space and we were seated close to the door, every time it opened there was a huge cold breeze that would come in. Overall nice place but not worth the price in my opinion.

Excellent dishes and good service. Portions are small so ordering many courses is recommended.

Dec 2 we went to Carlinios for a company Holiday Party. Unfortunately right from the beginning it all went wrong. Our reservation was for 8pm and we had to wait 20min to be seated. We had a set menu so we didn t need to order except for drinks. The first appetizer came fairly quickly but after that the food was coming very slowly. Our waiter was a no show to ask what was taking so long. We eventually had to complain for the long wait. The food was definitely sub par as most of it was overly salted. Pasta was under cooked and the portions were very small. The waiter did end up giving us another pasta dish which was also salty. They had to give us our dessert to go because it was getting too late and we still had our party to attend to up in the hotel room. They gave us extra desserts for the troubles but the Tiramisu very soggy. The manager did apologize and blamed the issues on problems with the kitchen, but as we were leaving the waiter mentioned we didn t pay and gave us another bill. Again we had to get the managers to confirm the whole bill was paid. We finally left just after 11pm. For a restaurant with such a high rating I would think there is plenty of room for improvement. Just to follow up the Manager comped our meal which was an unexpected surprise. Thank You.

The ambience is awesome, we went on a Monday night and it wasn t busy which made it even more special. Lisa was a wonderful server and she helped us understand the menu, and offered a great wine pairing with our Francobolli. I highly recommend the Seppie alla Griglia (grilled humboldt squid) and the Capesante Gratinate (swimming scallops). There was also an amazing special, it was an agnolotti pasta with ricotta and halibut. I would say the portions are on the smaller side with the pastas, but nevertheless very tasty! P.S get the tiramisu, you wont regret it :)

A place to have a special breakfast in town! Went there around 10 am and got surprised by having a live show with an amazing calming vibe. The food was ok (large portions) and the staff were really welcoming and nice. Wheelchair accessibility: An elevator is accessed to enter the place.

As a fan of Carlinos in Vancouver, I make at least one visit when in town. This December was no exception. The restaurant still features a very relaxing atmosphere and the service is exemplary. On this occasion, I enjoyed a very good endive and field green salad, garnished with walnuts, apple and thinly sliced pecorino cheese. My choice for an entree was a perfectly seasoned soup with mussels clams, sablefish in saffron and tomato infused broth. The seafood was perfectly cooked. As for the broth, use a spoon to savour every drop. With the usual assistance of the sommelier, a good wine was able to complement both dishes. Carlinos combination of tradition and innovation is one of the reasons I value the experience. Staff are extremely helpful and the welcome is as warm as the ambience.

Lovely first visit to Carlino restaurant. Definitely a repeat. The risotto was delicious. As was the crispy duck and the swimming scallops. Started with a tequila cocktail with cucumber infused soda- so good! Great service. This is a new favourite!

I celebrated here my last birthday, and I couldn t ask for a better place! My girlfriend -as always- finds the greatest spot! And this was one of a kind for me! Cocktails and wine were fantastic! Every thing that we ordered was sublime! I almost cried for happiness! An authentic Italian restaurant! HIGHLY WORTH A VISIT, even if is a bit expensive. After all we paid with tips almost 300.
