This omakase restaurant is a true gem! From the serene ambiance to the chef’s impeccable artistry, it delivers an authentic taste of Japan. The variety of dishes was outstanding—each bite showcased fresh ingredients and traditional techniques. I loved the cultural touches, from warm greetings to beautifully plated dishes and detailed explanations of their origins. It’s more than a meal; it’s a journey through Japanese tradition. Highly recommend for sushi lovers or anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience.
Incredible experience at Okeya Kyujiro. The waitresses are all attentive and knowledgeable. The food was out of this world. Also the music created a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommend visiting if you get a chance.
It was an amazing experience. For each sushi, the chefs showed the fish it is made from. All dishes were amazing. I particularly enjoyed uni sushi, sabe sushi, and hotate chawanmushi. The staff was kind and very attentive. I would definitely visit again.
This is another Michelin-starred restaurant in Vancouver, with three locations across Canada. Overall, my impression of this restaurant is that it offers a comprehensive dining experience. The meal begins with all the courses being introduced at once, and a black curtain covering the inside of the U-shaped counter. To start, they chant a Shingon Buddhist sutra, setting a unique tone for the experience. All the waitresses wore traditional Japanese kimonos, and they played birthday music on a traditional Japanese flute to celebrate one customer's birthday, which added a special touch. As for the food, I can’t recall exactly how many dishes were served, but it was a lot, and the quantity was more than satisfying. What stood out was that they often mentioned the origin of the ingredients, which were mostly from Japan. However, when they didn’t mention the origin of the otoro (fatty tuna), I asked, and they told me it was from Mexico. Generally, tuna is considered better when it comes from cold oceans due to its higher fat content, but the Mexican otoro was still quite good. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed their comprehensive dinner show. It was a new and unique experience for me.
It was a good and interesting dinner with some meaningful act by the chefs and crew team Atmosphere was great. Very cozy and clean and nice environment where I guess can seat total 14-15 people if needed Performance will start at the dedicated time So pls come on time as a respect to the chef and other customers as they only start when everyone seated All Japanese crew and well served Quality is very good and combining the whole journey of the course, its value to enjoy and tasted the variety of ingredients they prepared The menu is seasonal so u may taste different food or fish next time Be prepare that it has lots of food I guess around 25 small plates for each person. For the customer who cannot eat too much, can request less rice or reduced portions This one in Vancouver serve 2 dinner section so come on time and outside pay street parking is limited as this is located in a busy neighborhood, so be prepared I can say value for money. Should come enjoy the show and food if u around.
This is an omakase spot I've always wanted to visit. The entire experience is not just about dining; it includes various performances and has a strong sense of ceremony. Each dish is exquisitely prepared, featuring not only sashimi and sushi but also grilled eel skewers and a wide variety of small dishes. They even showcase different types of fish, and serve Japanese-imported Hami melons. If someone is celebrating a birthday, the chef will play the violin. It was an amazing experience, and I will definitely visit again.
I have been to multiple three Michelin star restaurants around the world, and I thought my experience at Okeya Kyujiro could've rivaled any of them. To be fair, the price did compare to the restaurants I ate in Italy. The ambience was fantastic, with lovely furniture and waiting room. The wait staff had kimonos and made me feel like I was in Japan again. Similarly, they managed to sync the music to some of the rituals which was interesting. And the food was amazing. Most of the 20+ plus courses were a hit with me, offering intricate and layered flavors. The sweet shrimp sashimi and the otoro were especially succulent. But the menu does change, so just enjoy the meal. The only qualm is that most of the ingredients are sourced from Japan, which makes sense but do bring into question the carbon footprint of my dinner.
I'm not a religious person, but I feel like I met God tonight. The food was amazing and every dish was unique and exciting in new ways. The presentation was outstanding. This meal was worth every penny. Grab a reservation and prepare to experience greatness.
Artful and delicious dining experience. Ingredients of incredible quality and everything served with genuine hospitality.
Incredibly delicious sushi. A beguiling evening event with 25 rounds of the finest snacks! Everything prepared directly at the table and made with the highest level of craftsmanship! An absolute recommendation for anyone who can afford it!
The dining experience was pleasant and it s like watching a performance in a front row seat. The service was excellent and they did pay attention to those who were left handed which was rather surprising considering a lot of omakase places I have been did not notice. They even offered a little celebration chocolate plate for special occasions and singing for birthdays. The downside would probably how chaotic it was to watch the chefs bumping into each other since the stage wasn t big enough, it s like seeing a lot of people doing different things at the same time and you had no idea where to start; secondly, our head chef wasn t professional at chopping vegetables and filleting the fish, as he would cut mushrooms and slice the shima aji unevenly which produced quite a bit of waste . For a Michelin star restaurant, I d expect more skillful chefs and their performance was rather disappointing but all in all, it s a very delightful experience to have once in a lifetime.
The best omakase experience! Highly recommend
A theatric experience with amazing food.
The theatrics of this Omakase is not a gimmick, the sushi here is very good. Perfect place to come for a special occasion or if you love sushi and want to experience something unique and memorable.
Really good omakase sushi, full of ritual, very healing
Honestly, no words, this places is beyond amazing. Really enjoyed and all the recommendations where stunning. Thank you so much
Let s cut to the chase because everyone will ask the same question: Did they earn their Michelin Star? The answer is hot damn, yes they definitely did! It s dinner and a show here as you watch the premium ingredients prepared in front of you. They take great pride in their work and even show you what they ll be preparing for you next. The servers are fiercely attentive and will remove the dishes and refill your drinks between courses before you can even realize they are by your shoulder. The ambience is great and their background music sometimes matches their prep work on the sushi which is an amusing touch. This is the best omakase I ve had in years. You definitely need to try it!
Great place for anniversary or birthday, thanks to all made my friend s birthday so special! Food was great so does the show. Really enjoyed it.
Expensive but such a great overall experience its worth trying at least once!
Phenomenal! Its more than just the food. Its art, its theatre, its a culinary experience.
All of the food was amazingly delicious, but it was also such a unique experience! The super-friendly staff give you a warm welcome as they lead you to your seat and explain how the omakase works. As the chefs serve you each course, the staff give a detailed description of the ingredients and how they are prepared; for many of the dishes, the chefs actually go around and show the raw ingredient (e.g. fish, vegetable, fruit, etc.) that will be used to prepare the course. The Otoro nigiri was absolutely delightful, and there were some pleasant surprises with unexpected ingredient pairings. There is a variety of dishes ranging from small appetizers such as chawanmushi to nigiri, tempura, wagyu, and even ramen! Besides the food, the atmosphere is truly unique. The experience starts with the lights dimmed and a set of partially see-through roller shades draped over the chefs area; when the music starts to play, these dividers are promptly rolled up as the staff introduces the chefs and they begin preparing the first course. During the dessert course, each patron celebrating a birthday-decorated dessert, and one of the staff members even pulled out a mini wooden piano and played happy birthday! The night wrapped up with a matcha tea ceremony and a short outro from the staff, thanking everyone for coming. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone who enjoys Japanese food and omakase to give this restaurant a visit. Okeya Kyujiro was one of the most extraordinary dining experiences Ive had in a long time, and no written review can do it justice.
Went for my gf dinner and will go back again and again. One of the best restaurants in Vancouver
Truly phenomenal. There is no word to express how impressed I am. It s quite expensive but definitely worth it. The best dinner ever!!!!
Great restaurant, food is delicious, service is excellent. I really enjoyed the way the chef prepared the food in front of us.
Incredible Omakase. Expensive but worth it.
Amazing experience! We come from Ottawa and definitely will come again if get a chance. Thank you for the meal!
A really special gem. First tried their Montreal location and this lives up to it. Very unique omakase experience that transports you to Japan for 2 hours.
Absolutely incredible. The first thing you notice is the service. The wait staff was amazing. Once the omakase starts it doesn t stop. They are always preparing something and you get to see all of it. The food is super fresh and delicious. We went for dinner and it was 25 courses including dessert and a tea ceremony. We also had their plum sake which was really good. Overall an amazing experience and totally worth the price.
Go for the experience and presentation
Absolutely the best restaurant in Vancouver! We tried many Michelin-starred restaurants during our visit this week, but nothing compares to this one. That s why we re back for the second time within a week.
Such an amazing experience and staff! was a great experience overall !! Food
The music in this omakase restaurant was very loud and tacky The decoration flowers on the table were fake flowers. The food was not bad considering that we are in North America and eating something mimicking Japanese omakase .
My friends and I had dinner. The moment we walked in, there was a sense of ceremony. There was chanting and curtain raising. It was more like a show than cooking. Throughout the meal, the staff tried to pile up various Japanese elements to please the guests, but the order of serving dishes was chaotic. , dizzy and busy, but essentially lost the original intention of cooking people. Its an insult to sushi to try so hard to show off its oriental style. The photos show that every time the general is photographed, people feel that he is impatient, has no sense of service, and is very rude.
Went for the lunch omakase and was very impressed! Over the 15 courses we were brought on a journey of different flavours and we enjoyed every moment. Excellent food, service & atmosphere. Will come back for the dinner omakase.
I visited this restaurant primarily because of its Michelin one-star rating. To be honest, the freshness and meticulous preparation of the food do live up to the one-star standard. However, the prices are more akin to what you d expect at a three-star establishment, which might be due to the rising costs in Canada. When compared to dining experiences in Tokyo, the difference is stark. In Tokyo, you get incredibly fresh and affordable food with excellent service. One highlight here is the chefs performance, which surpasses what Ive seen in Japan. Its quite dazzling, but it feels like its more about putting on a show than focusing on the food preparation, which can be distracting. Another major downside is the ventilation system. It s quite poor, and combined with the lack of timely extinguishing during the grilling process, the small space becomes filled with throat-irritating smoke. It can be seen that there is no range hood above the pot, causing the entire room to be filled with oil smoke, and every lamp reflects the smoke.
What an absolutely incredible experience. Ive been to many restaurants round the globe and this is without a doubt one of the best ones Ive been able to experience. The food, the atmosphere, the service, it was all excellent and just on point. I would definitely love to come back. Thank you so much to everyone at Kujiro Okeya for a wonderful experience.
One of the best meals and experiences of my life. We were presented with a total of 25 beautiful courses, mostly sushi, and every morsel was unique. Absolutely impeccable service, from the meticulously curated performance in front of us to the attentive servers who made sure our sake cups were full and we never had to ask for a thing. This was my first omakase experience but won t be the last. They also made my husband feel so special for his birthday!
Truly exceptional experience dining here for my birthday. From the atmosphere, service, tradition, 25 course meal and piano playing Happy Birthday, it was the dinner of a lifetime. Every single morsel is crafted to perfection. I tried over 20 different kinds of fish! All impeccably prepared with traditional methods and modern design. Absolutely spinning from the experience!
Very good atmosphere and whole experience was like a food show! I hesitated a bit before when I saw the price ($300+ pp) but as it got Michelin certified I still want to give it a try. I love how the girls wearing Japanese clothes and great you with very comforting manner. The decoration was also making feel like entered a Japanese theater. All the chef work fast and they accommodated my allergy. Definitely recommend for your special night, they played piano for a birthday girl, I believe it would be a memorable experience.
Probably the best edomae style sushi in Vancouver. Shari is a bit vinegar forward, each nigiri piece is expertly crafted, fish and rice melded harmoniously. I was skeptical given the price point, but I can say its actually worth the splurge for the quality youre getting. In this beautiful space youll actually forget youre not in Japan for a couple of hours.
Just WOW, what an incredible experience! Celebrating my birthday at this omakase restaurant was truly the best experience I ve ever had! We were both overwhelmed with emotion by the surprise they prepared for us. Every detail was absolutely beautiful, like a work of art. This is an experience we ll never forget. I can t recommend this place enough!
If there was a way to rate this place 6 or 7 stars, i would!!! Best meal of my life, exceptionnal service, the chef is simply amazing!!! The simplicity is mastered, the complexity is an art form at this level. Food : 5/5
Went there for my birthday celebration. Food was very delicious and the services were top notch. The waitress played happy birthday with a mini piano which was super sweet. It s my first omakase experience so I don t have anything to compare it to, but it definitely made me want to try more omakase in the future.
Incredible. What an experience. 10/10
This spot is truly a gem in the Vancouver dining scene. Each dish I had during my visit tasted phenomenal. Many of the ingredients were rare ones imported from Japan, each incorporated in a dish with a taste and texture unique relative to the others. Even the standard fare such as tamago, steamed egg, and rolled sushi, were very clearly expertly made and incredibly delicious. The service was attentive, professional, friendly, and patient - it is no coincidence that they won service-based awards on top of their food-based awards. This restaurant is exceptional and must be on your list if you are looking to have excellent Japanese dining in Canada.
Very good service and nice atmosphere with the background music. Very relax and nice to see the whole show in front of you. Will recommend to arrive 15 minutes early to get the front seat also you can have time for yourself to prepare the show.
The most sublime Japanese dinner experience ever. Chef nailed every single dish in a chefs table format, with perfect execution!! A must try for Vancouver!
Had my first omakase here with my hubby for our birthdays this year. Overall experience was excellent. Really enjoyed our date night here. 25 course meal wasn t bad. They were very professional.
I had a Wonderful experience, a great service and tasty dishes. It was such an entertainment that you can enjoy everything!! Must go and strongly recommend it.
Incredible sushi, delicate yet packed with umami. A production for sure.
Food was great! Only complain is maybe too much fried food ?
The best quality of sushi I have ever had. Amazing!
At its cost, the experience was surprisingly impressive the service was friendly, they presented a great show, and the omakase didnt disappoint. I lean towards a more traditional experience with additional nigiri, so this was just right. The location in Yaletown is convenient. We also visited Enhance Arts Spa afterward for a foot massage, making it a perfect date night.
We had omakase in Japan and other cities before. Food ar this place is very fresh and delicious, impressive verities, service is great. Overall an amazing experience. But, my 3 little pet peeves, 1. The exhaust fan was not working great, so the place smell a bit fishy oily, left with the smell on my hair and jacket. 2. The little wagyu beef piece has old oil taste, I told the pretty lady there but she probably assume that I don t know wagyu suppose to be oily. 3. The Atmosphere was a bit awkward, the chef only shows the knife skill, shows the fish and all the introduction were by the ladies serving customers. We had better conversation with the chef at omakase in Japan even though the chef didn t speak good English. The price is definitely high for that each piece is very small. There are plenty of amazing sushi places in Vancouver, sorry I won t be back to this one and probably would not recommend it unless you have cash and try to impress someone to a Michelin restaurant.
This was an unbelievable experience. We ve enjoyed many great Japanese restaurants over the years, here and in Japan, but this was very memorable. The quality, presentation, and care that s gone into the entire experience is absolutely worth it. Thank you so much!
Great experience for all your senses!
Vancouver is called the ``Sushi Capital of the World, but lets be honest: Its not easy to find an authentic Japanese restaurant here. After all, the North American version of sushi restaurants, many run by non-Japanese people, have made so many compromises to local gourmets that many people have forgotten what real Japanese food tastes like. Masu. Of course, another important reason is that the variety and quality of seafood in the North Pacific is inferior to that in the Sea of Japan and the East Sea. Therefore, offering Omakazes Japanese cuisine in Vancouver is quite difficult to beat, even when compared to Toronto to the east, not to mention compared to mainland Japan. After all, without fresh ingredients, its difficult for even the best chefs to create top-notch flavors. However, it can be said that Kujiro Okeya is putting in a lot of effort. Vancouvers finest Kujiro Okeya has been awarded one star in the 2024 edition of the Michelin Guide. This restaurant can be considered the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine in Vancouver, as there is no restaurant in Vancouver with more than one Michelin star. Kujiro is a small but very elaborate restaurant with only 12 seats. The seats are arranged like a stage, and during the early stages of preparation, the curtains are closed and the lights are dimmed, just like before the opening of a major play. When the appointed time arrives and everyone has arrived, the curtains slowly rise to the sound of bamboo knots, the lights brighten, the chef appears, and the show begins. It has a sense of dramatized ritual. We ordered a 15-course lunch, which may differ in quantity and content from dinner. Includes 3 types of appetizers, steamed eggs, 7 types of sushi (one dish each), sea urchin, soba, rice with crab and fish roe, otoro maki, tamagoyaki, and dessert. Overall, the variety is a bit monotonous and there arent many special dishes, but the best were the Aburi Otoro Sushi and Otoro Maki, which is largely due to the excellent quality of the ingredients. The seasoning of the Miyazaki A5 soba was good, but my beef was surprisingly a little dry, which was a bit disappointing. Sushi sauces can be a bit bland and salty, which can sometimes take away the natural flavor of the ingredients. The service was very good. Especially when I communicated with them in Japanese, I felt closer to them, and for a moment I felt like I was back in Tokyo, which I hadnt been to in several years.
One of the top dining experiences in Vancouver. The food is thoughtful and prepared with great skill and care. A truly exceptional experience.
I loved the entire experience. The food was amazing and the they always explained what type of fish or food it was. I also enjoyed the tea ceremony at the end.
Authentic omakase experience! All of the staff are from Japan. The most important thing is their ingredients are very fresh. The chefs are definitely skilled and ready to put amazing flavors on your palate. Apart from the incredible food, I love the culture components they integrate in the whole immersive experience from the beginning to the end. It felt like I was in Japan. Will definitely go back.
Omakase concept, very tasty food and excellent experience. Everything from the decor to music to how they paced the dishes were great. Menu is seasonal based on whats in season, 100% will be back!
Was brought here for my birthday as a suprise from my wife. Incredible experience, top notch food and service! Will definitely be back.
It was amazing experience that eating authentic in Vancouver.
Brought my sister in for her birthday dinner and it was such a decent experience! Both of us have never had omakase before so everything that was served to us honestly blew our minds. Not to mention all the chefs and servers were so attentive as well. 10/10 would recommend for special occasions!!
Best restaurant I have ever tried. 2-1 ratio of staff vs customer. Service and food was the best. Flavours was always enhanced cleanly with fresh and unique ingredients. Must go and try.
Sushi Okeya Kyujiro scores top points for ambience, service, location, and presentation. When you enter, youre welcomed in by very kind front house staff (all wearing kimono) and directed to a separate and quiet waiting room. When your seat is ready, youll then move into the main open dining area. Theres a partially open kitchen and the sushi chef team are located in the middle with bar seating surrounding them in a U shape. Sharing the omakase experience with others is nice and the front house staff provide excellent detailed course descriptions throughout the meal. The whole experience is extremely well coordinated - the music and lights add extra drama to the experience and the chefs are constantly in motion and theres no break in the food service. For the actual food itself, the ingredients are high quality and tasty. However, there were a few choices that didnt make the food a 5/5 experience for me. Okeya does a wide variety of raw and cooked foods (nigiri, don, chawanmushi, wagyu beef, tempura, miso, ramen). While the variety in textures is nice, I personally prefer omakase meals that focus on nigiri and sashimi versus noodles and other cooked dishes. Also, while the ingredients are definitely fresh, there are portions of the menu that are more showy rather than prepared fresh in front of you - for example while theres a hairy crab and crown melon on display (the chefs will also hold and display the ingredients so people can get their photo ops), those just stay on display and the actual prep is done in advance in the back. This by no means I dont trust the skill of the chefs - it just made the whole thing feel a lot more showy to me. For $300 + tax and tip, youre definitely paying for the Okeya show and experience over just the food. Id recommend going to Okeya if you want an easy and friendly omakase with a big focus on the show and whole package experience rather than just focusing on the food. If youre feeling nervous or stressed out about dealing with a strict/formal omakase experience, Okeya has the same vibes of going to a fancier Western restaurant. I personally wont be going back as I like to focus more on the food and for a similar price point, there are other local omakase restaurants that will fit that for me.
My favourite omakase in town for special occasions. Skilled chefs perform on front of you. Yes, it s fairly expensive at $300 pp before alcohol. I highly recommend for birthday and anniversaries. Everything tasted amazing except the aged tuna which was a little chewier. Waitress are friendly and nice too
I just wanted to say, thank you, to the chef and his team for an amazing meal.
Amazing. Must try!
Absolutely entertaining Omakase sushi prepared expertly by the sushi master right in front of you.
Best and most special dining experience I ve ever had! Incredibly beautiful meal and worth the price
I used it for my sons birthday. It was a restaurant with more Japanese flavor than Japan. (Offerings to sutras, altars, etc.) The menu of ingredients is very picky from the owners taste, and is full of delicious ingredients from Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Miyazaki in the south. Its very entertaining and you wont get tired of watching it. I also had a birthday song played for me, making it a very nice birthday. The budget is over $300 per person (excluding drinks, tax, and tip). The price is reasonable.
best sushi omakase in Vancouver. hands down no one can compete
Not your traditional Omakase experience in VANCOUVER. I will start with stressing that Omakase in Japan vs Omakase experience in Vancouver are two totally different experiences. This is the best omakase experience that I have had in Vancouver. Great sake, great service, great chefs, and amazing food. Also, this aint your 10-15 courses. We had a total of 24 separate items when we went. Im 58 170lbs and I was very satisfied. I didnt need to have a burger after this Omakase. Okeya Kyujiro is ]focused on taking your palate on a journey around Japans prefectures to enjoy the delicacies. Check their website for costs. There is no menu as their will focus on seasonal freshness.
Fabulous omakase in Vancouver. Food was amazing while the staff were friendly and very attentive. Perfect place for the special occasion!
Such nice and unique experience. I have been try lot of omakase places in Korea and here and Japan, but this place is really performed well. Their welcome service and serving is reallt traditional way and all ingredients are fresh and expensive too. You are sushi lover and never tried omakase and this place must go place. Quit expensive (dinner mostly) so prepare well. But you wont regret it. Such a good place.
It was truly an amazing experience to see our meal prepared from start to finish, with prime ingredients, many of which were from Hokkaido. With only 14 seats in the entire establishment surrounding the chefs, everyone seated was able to get a good view of the process. it was a truly intimate dining experience with exceptional service. The bluefin courses were exceptional, and I was very happy to sample wintermelon. My only small piece of feedback is that the donburi portion could have been a little bit bigger (I left about 80% full). Regardless, wonderful experience and one of the best omakase experiences in Vancouver.
An interesting experience for a surprise dinner or a special occasion, albeit quite pricey. I found the food extremely salty, which reduced the quality of the experience for me. However, the service was impeccable.
I ve had omakase everywhere in Vancouver, New York and Japan. This might be my favourite omakase in North America now! I loved the variety in dishes, raw, nigiri, tempura, cooked fish, ramen etc. I rarely leave omakase stuffed and I definitely was after this meal. The highlight of this meal for me might ve been the toro, that night it was better than anything I d had in Japan. I will be recommending this omakase spot to all my friends. Only one critique would be that there weren t a lot of non alcoholic beverages available. Would ve loved to see a sparkling yuzu drink.
We came with a group for their weekend lunch seating with the $180 set menu. The food itself was very high quality, but we all left hungry. It was a 15 course lunch, but some of the courses were very small and came in a set of three - when we came to the end of the courses, it caught us by surprise. There were around 6 pieces of nigiri that included the hits like blue fin and spot prawn, but it would have been good to have a couple extra pieces to honestly just fill the stomach. There was a lot of theatre around the experience with a tea ceremony at the end, but they also rushed us out at the end to prepare for dinner service even though we were only there for 1.5 hours. For that price, it didn t feel like good value and it didn t help that we couldn t even stay a little longer to enjoy our drinks. Maybe the dinner service is better, but would not recommend the lunch experience here.
One of the better omakase restaurants in Vancouver. Service and presentation was top notch. Overall all the dishes of the meal was good. I felt there could have been more sashimi dishes or at least an option to order some more pieces of sashimi a la carte at the end of the dinner.
Food meets expectations comparing to the price. Services and environment are outstanding.
It was a very interesting experience. The ambiance was very unique. Gave food 3 stars because the portion size. Had omakase in different places, the quality is definitely superior but portions a bit too small. We had lunch there and felt the price is $$$$$ compared with other restaurants. The service was for sure top by none. Go for the Japanese hospitality experience.
We had an absolutely incredible experience at Okeya Kyujiro. The omakase journey was like a mesmerizing performance that not only satisfied our appetites but also ignited our senses and emotions. The top-notch omakase course dinner was a masterpiece in itself. Watching all the moves in the kitchen was truly akin to witnessing a complete theatrical play. Highly recommend if you want to spend a special time with your special people.
This restaurant is not just a food restaurant, it is a show restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing and well worth the anniversary I had with my wife. Every single bite I took had me and my wife gasping in awe and talking about every bite, it wasnt until we had the wagyu when we were so stunned by the immense flavor, that we were speechless. I also went in expecting to be hungry and go for seconds somewhere else, but I didnt need to. I ended the night incredibly fulfilled and taken back by the immense care that this restaurant provided. At the end of the show, they said they add new menus every season and I will make it worth my while to go back every season.
The food quality is excellent and the atmosphere is great. The dinner was delicious.
It was great!! Not only did you come here to eat delicious Japanese food, but the process of serving each dish was so elaborate that it was produced from beginning to end, making you feel like you were watching a show. The material is also first class. The presentation was beautiful, it was fun to watch, and the taste was amazing .We had a wonderful time together. If you are traveling to Canada, please make a reservation and experience this show and meal!
The food and service were excellent. Not only was the food delicious, but each item was beautifully presented and a feast for the eyes. You can see all the cooking happening behind the counter, and the process flows so seamlessly that it feels like youre watching a series of shows. The staff was also very attentive. It was a very good memory from my trip.
The store that left the most impression on me during my trip to Canada! The movements of the chefs cooking in the kitchen inside the counter are so cool! As you follow the movements with your eyes, a dish with extra care will appear in front of you. I was very impressed with my first experience at a shop that I could enjoy with all my five senses!
I could watch the performance for a long time without getting bored. The taste is amazing, and even though Im Japanese, Ive never had Japanese food this delicious! I will definitely go eat there again! !
I Came here for my birthday and It was an amazing experience. Def worth every $$$ you pay. If you have the chance please go and experience it yourself!
We had a fantastic (and emotional!) experience! We thoroughly enjoyed the beautifully-presented food, which was made with the freshest ingredients, and splurged on an absolutely delicious bottle of sake. It was a treat to watch the team working efficiently and effortlessly together behind the counter, preparing each dish for each customer with the utmost care. Love this place!
I went there to eat on a trip. The unique atmosphere of Japan is being recreated, along with a very authentic entertainer show. Each course meal is delicious. It was great. She explained all the ingredients to me along with the product, and I was able to see the food being made up close, so the two-hour meal was over in no time. It was an entertaining show that captivated me. If you go to Canada, definitely check it out! Recommended.
It was easy to eat as it was a bite size. The private room where I waited until I was guided and the interior of the store were also nice. They were very helpful in accommodating my food allergies. It was a great memory for my family in Vancouver. thank you very much. I would like to visit your store again. Although there were only a few seats, it felt special, and I was able to enjoy the food and the performance at a leisurely pace.
My wife and I had the chance to taste the delicate cuisine of Okeya Kyujiro. Top quality ingredients combined with an immersive theatrical choregraphy makes this culinary experience worth every dollar. There is nothing else like it around and it truly was a memorable experience. I recommend Okeya Kyujiro Vancouver for anyone who is seriously interested in tasting authentic Japanese cuisine.
Very cool! Great value for money! It s like watching a movie and it s very Japanese culture!
Fabulous experience. Thanks so much
Nice atmosphere :) Friendly staffs!! I will come back again for the mini ramen and different sake !!
I went to try this omakase after it shortly opened earlier this year. I was highly impressed after trying a few omakases around town, I would say the experience here was very memorable. I found the staff very personable, presentation and taste of food excellent, and the overall experience very theatrical compared to others. The price is very reasonable as well.
I can t even being to describe what an incredible experience this was! The food was immaculate, the service was exceptional, and I ve never been more impressed with the atmosphere and talent that went into the evenings meal. This really was dinner and a show! The chef should be so proud of his work and his staff. Brilliant!! High quality ingredients combined with a beautiful presentation! A MUST SEE when you re in Vancouver!!
yummy
Everything was perfect from start to finish. Great attention to detail, fantastic traditional tools and methods used. Service always attentive, pacing was perfect.
Just an AMAZING experience! The food taste, quality, presentation, appearance, i cant say more! Every thing was amazing! Would cost about $400 per person. Before booking we advised them we have shrimp and shellfish allergy, chef removed shrimp from the whole menu for tonight! And some of courses were made separately for us! Amazing service and very responsible! The owner was the main chef, very experienced
It is an honour to write the first review. This was the best dinning experience Ive had. The hospitality, the attention for details, the music, the decor, the atmosphere, everything was excellent! We felt special from the beginning to the end. What a gastronomic journey! The food was delicious: we were served imported crown melons, fish, crab, wagyu and more, that were so fresh, tasty, and felt as if they could melt in your mouth. #Umami! This culinary experience is a must, I recommend it a million times! Thank you to everyone at Sushi Okeya Kyujiro.
Omakase and a SHOW! This is fine dining Edomae Japanese omakase elevated to a theatrical art form showing traditional cooking styles with a modern twist. Expect top quality ingredients imported from Japan and around the world turned gourmet right before your very eyes.
I had an incredible experience at Okeya! From the beginning to the end. The atmosphere, hospitality, the staff, the chef, the fresh food... Honestly, one of the best experiences Ive ever had. I truly recommend it.
Ive tried most of the omakase sushi places in Vancouver, including Sushi Jin, Sushi Bar Maumi, Kiwami etc. I am NOT a food blogger just a regular paying customer that loves omakase. I wanted to highlight this as I see a lot of the raving 5 star reviews are by sponsored food bloggers. If this is your first omakase experience and you have never experienced Japanese culture and tradition, this is a good option. The environment, ambience, and service embodies everything Japanese culture has to offer. There is a good variety of raw food, cooked food such as tempura/wagyu beef, and even ramen noodles. However, in terms of food and value, the most similar experience you can compare Okeya to is Kiwami. In this case, I think Kiwami is superior in terms of food just based on value. The portion sizes are much larger with the same quality of cuts. For example, the dessert provided by Okeya was a mango icecream, whereas Kiwami provided Uni Icecream. I was also disappointed that the Don provided by Okeya was only Bluefin and Ikura, no Uni in sight! If you go to Sushi Jin or Kiwami, their Don always included Uni. Personally, when I spend the money to eat omakase I want the focus of my meal to be nigiri and sashimi, not cooked food. If you are like me, I suggest Sushi Jin or Sushi Bar Maumi. Okeya is good for a one time experience for a special occasion. Unfortunately, I would not return based on the price point and value provided. The total bill was around $700 for two people with tips and tax. You are paying for the show not necessarily the food.
Amazing experience! One of the best omakase experiences in Vancouver. Excellent service. Amazing show. Delicious food!
One of the best food experiences in Vancouver! Service was excellent!
A true experience. The show begins with curtains down with a prayer and introduction of the culinary staff. You will be enthralled by an exquisite curation of seasonal sea food prepared to perfection. The attention to details and ambience are unparalleled in Vancouver. Chef Matsuda-san has brought this incredible experience in Vancouver and I am delighted to have witnessed it. Looking forward to the next time!
A very unique and excellent sushi experience! 5 deserving stars across the board. Recommend booking online well in advance. From memory, there are 14 seats (counter only) and 2 seatings per night. The concept is omakase or leave it to the chef, so there is no food menu. Would not be suitable for vegans or vegetarians as most dishes, if not all, had some form of seafood in it. When ordering sake, the sommelier will ask you about your preference and recommend a bottle based on that. For pricing, food was $300 per person before tax and tips and our bottle of 700ml sake was $180. From the onset upon arrival to the restaurant, you are greeted by the hostess and head chef outside the front entrance. Once inside, it feels like you are transported to a fine sushi establishment in Tokyo. There was a waiting area for guests to sit in before the show starts which is a nice touch. The show as they call it was a few minutes of ceremonial rituals and I loved that the chefs were all individually introduced by name. The omakase is seasonal so the food offering is always evolving based on timing of year. Honestly, everything we tried today was excellent. Each ingredient and dish was expertly prepared (and explained). You can tell that they take great pride in their sourcing and preparation work, and no shortcuts were taken. Before serving each dish, the main ingredient in its raw form is shown and explained. Not surprisingly the head chef selected many of his favorite fish and other ingredients from his hometown in Japan. I would describe the omakase as a sushi and kaiseki experience. Half the dishes were cooked (i.e. deep fried or tempura, steamed, grilled, soup, noodles) and the other half were nigiri/sashimi, and there were about 20 dishes in total including dessert. See photos (November 2022). Highlights for us were the shirako tempura topped with uni sauce, lobster tempura, grilled unagi, smoked fish sashimi, and all of the nigiri sushi. Wonderful meal and I would come back in a heartbeat. Would not hesitate to recommend Sushi Okeya Kyujiro to friends, family and out of town guests. Special thanks to the restaurant for being super accommodating and understanding when we had to cancel our previous reservation last minute due to an elevator incident.
