Southeast Asian specialties with a kick & tropical cocktails in a welcoming, colourful atmosphere.
We dropped by this place after we did biking from Stanley Park. We ordered 2 sets of 7-course tasting lunch for 3 people. The portion was smaller than what we expected. The beef stews were kind of surprising and it tasted really good.
During our short visit to Vancouver, we passed by this restaurant and decided to try it based on Google reviews. This restaurant Is great. The food is delicious, the service is awesome, and the ambiance is nice. The waiters are very attentive, friendly, and caring. We ate twice at this restaurant, and we can’t wait to go back to Vancouver to eat there again.
Straight up good authentic Malaysian cuisine. Service was prompt, courteous and professional. We had Singapore Laksa, papaya salad and the green beans. All were tasty. Tuesdays they have half off wine bottles so we ordered a regional Pinot Gris. Paired well with the food.
Absolutely amazing Malaysian food at Banana Leaf. The dishes were very good and tasty. The staff very friendly and gave some great recommendations as this was our first.
Had dinner with friends here. What a lovely atmosphere. The service was amazing, felt like we had our own private server though he was serving a number of tables. The meals were served quite quickly and everything was delicious! This is a must visit restaurant for me now whenever I'm in Vancouver.
Absolutely love this place! Dishes were so flavorful, and spicy. Their eggplant fries were an unexpected treat, crispy and delicious. All their dishes were bursting with flavor and with generous serving. My favorite was the char kweoy chao.
Great Malaysian food! Cant go wrong with any dish, as I liked everything I tried. Everything can be changed to vegan/vegetarian which was great. There is also nice outdoor seating in the shade. All the servers were very friendly and checked on us frequently.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️My experience at Banana Leaf on Robson was absolutely incredible! From the warm welcome by the staff to the impeccable quality and flavour of the food, everything exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend trying the beef curry—it was delicious! I also enjoyed a refreshing beer and mojito, followed by a perfect coffee and deep-fried banana with ice cream for dessert, which was a delightful ending to my meal. A special shout out to Oscar, who provided top-notch service and made my dining experience truly five-star. I can't wait to visit again and explore more of their menu. Highly recommended for anyone looking for exceptional Malaysian cuisine and outstanding service!
Dropping a line because I read in one review that the lunch tasting menu was too little food. My pregnant friend and I just had it it was delicious and we are too stuffed to move.
Popped in for lunch today. Service and food was outstanding!
Best food best service recommend !!
We were excited to try a taste of home while we are visiting Vancouver (we are from London, UK & Penang, Malaysia), but were ultimately disappointed by our meal. While we understand some changes are made to suit local taste buds, there were a few things of well-established culinary delights that should not have been tampered with. Lets start with the good! The char kuey teow was nearly spot on, from using the correct noodles for length and texture, to the right amount of seasoning for taste. Add some lap cheong (Chinese sausage) and a bit more wok hei... perfect! The Ipoh hor fun was also very nice. The satay (we had lamb) was nicely cooked, but could have done with more marinating for extra taste. The Malaysian lamb stew was woeful. All the lamb shoulder pieces were overcooked; some chunks were so dry, it was inedible. The stew sauce itself was grainy, as if the spices were not fully cooked out and rough. The sambal green beans lacked flavour. The tomatoes and bell peppers were the cause of the sambal losing its taste in the dish when it is meant to be the star. The bell peppers were also unexpected, as the menu doesnt mention them nor are they in the online menu photo, and two of our guests have a mild intolerance to them. The Singapore Hainan chicken was dry. Despite the dark soy sauce poured over it, the meat was overcooked. The accompanying chili sauce was watery and sweet, and not the correct type or style. We had to order the rice (which should be served alongside as standard) separately, and that was the most disappointing part. The Hainan ginger garlic rice had no ginger or garlic taste at all, and it resembled yellow pilau the rice had too much turmeric added for colour. Not Hainanese chicken rice at all; a complete mismatch from what was described on the menu, and the photo in the online menu (which is the correct colour). We also had the caramelised fish fillets and Nyonya calamari, but both lacked depth. The fish were overly sweet, and the calamari were heavily under seasoned tasting just of the light but flavourless batter. It may have been open for 29 years but either the cooking has changed or theres just a mismatch/misconception of how things should taste and what is then produced to please an unknowing audience - not the audiences fault btw, just unfortunate that theyre missing out on really good authentic Malaysian food.
Amazing food and incredibly friendly service. Our go to every time were in town! Never fails to disappoint!
We went there for Saturday night dinner. Pineapple fried rice which was served to us had 2 hairs in that. That was such an unprofessional and disrespectful act towards customer.
This franchise is doing some funny business and needs CRA to look into the way they conduct business....we were visiting from Toronto, we requested a table for 6(4 adults and 2 kids). When we finished eating, we were given a bill with a mandatory 18% gratuity... we were never once informed of this practice in advance. They also had the gratuity portion hand written on the bill... when I asked for the receipt from the register with my gratuity added to it... I was told they will be adding hst on the 18% gratuity! I will definitely be reporting this to CRA for further review.
mussels are so good , tom yum was delicious
Food is amazing, best meal we have had in Canada, beef rendang was superb, portions were big and staff were so friendly and helpful. wish we had discovered this place earlier
I ordered nasi goreng, laksa and roti. It was my first time eating it and it was very delicious! The server was so kind as well. When I paid, he was like Koreans always order the same menu Oh and if we go to lunch time, we can eat it at a discounted price (11:30am - 3:00pm) good
Food was really good and our server was amazing! Highly recommend!
Great restaurant amazing service very welcome customer service
Tastes authentic just like the food in Malaysia.
i celebrated my birthday and i felt bad no compliment slice of cake or just even a slice dessert at all i am so devastated id rather celebrate in a fine dining next time
The food is really delicious. They serve really good quality Malaysian food that exceeded any mamak I ve tried. Will definitely go back to try their other menu items. Service is also fast and their staff are friendly.
Had the 7 course lunch special. Amazing value at $29 pp and very very tasty!
We had lunch at Banana Leaf on Saturday, and it was my favorite meal of the weekend. This was my first time eating Malaysian food, and I loved it! My friend and I each got a 4-course tasting meal, and we shared each others dishes, so I got to try lots of different dishes. My favorites were the spring roll lettuce wraps, sambal green beans with shrimp, and the coconut panna cotta. Our servers were friendly and gracious, and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. Next time I visit Vancouver I plan to dine here again so I can try even more of their dishes!
Amazing food. Best food i have had in so long!!
Me and husband we are foodie and we love to try new places, different culture foods. It was my first time to this restaurant, so me and husband were looking at menu and we asked some questions to the server about some items. We felt like we were not welcomed at all. Because all other customers were taken care off very well. We felt like we are not a good fit to be at this place. Discrimination feeling. Sorry no star to service.
we casually ended up here for dinner some evening and then we came back two days after because we liked it a lot the place is really nice itself and the staff is nice as well the food is delicious: beautiful to see and even better to taste and the portions are quite generous we especially recommend the nasi goreng if you wanna go for the rice (the pineapple seafood fried one is really tasty too), but generally speaking everything we tried was really good well happily come back if well be in vancouver again in the future!
Banana Leaf at Robson is the most delicious thing Ive ever tasted. The food is delicious, with several gluten-free options, making it perfect for people with dietary restrictions. The service is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere of the place is cozy and pleasant. You cant miss the Pineapple Seafood Chicken Fried Rice, a unique combination full of flavor, and the Chicken Satay Skewers, simply spectacular! A culinary experience you cant miss in Vancouver. Highly recommended! Dietary restrictions: gluten free
Absolutely perfect meal! Highly recommend
Service was prompt/courteous though the food was not good. It reminded me of a mall food court though at 3 times the price. One of our dishes was, unfortunately, inedible, which Id informed the staff, to which nothing was done. I am only posting a review as I wish I wouldve had this review prior to sitting and eating here.
Great food with great vibes.
Its really so delicious. The price is reasonable too. Im planning on taking the course next time. The staff is friendly and the store is clean. Above all, its delicious. Totally recommended
We had an excellent experience at this restaurant. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. In particular, the young male server provided outstanding service. We tried to use a coupon we found in front of the store, and he explained it in detail and even gave us a new one. They also packed our leftovers carefully. We will definitely come back again.
I got the beef curry and it was delicious!! The curry was spicy and the beef was super tender. Would recommend coming here for lunch as their lunch specials are a great deal!!
On a recent trip to Victoria we revisited this fun Malaysian restaurant and we re happy to report it is just as good as we remember. We started with an order of Roti Canai, warm flatbread with a curry-based dipping sauce. Delicious and very light. I kept with the curry theme and went with the chicken curry which has a little spice to it but not overpowering. The star of the show though was the coconut rice that comes wrapped in a banana leaf. Wow! I am not a big coconut fan but this stuff is addictive as well as beautifully presented. For the second time we were too stuffed for desert. I guess I will have to go back.
Good place.. good food.
Service at this location is usually bad, but today we were 7 people so they say that they include an 18% tip, so I guess that s why it was ever worse than other times. Also they charged us 20% tip without even asking. Not coming back to this location ever. I rather go to Davie. Dirty silverware, very slow service, never checking on us and any needs, all food came at different times and delayed. Never asked for more drinks or desserts, some rude responses as well.
Maybe they dont cook so well in Malaysia either
We are in town for 2 nights and wandered by this restaurant and decided to stop in. Sooo glad we did. We had the $59/person tasting menu and it was incredible. I don t think I ve had Malaysian food before but I m hooked. One of the best all around meals I ve had. Try it out, you won t be disappointed.
Authentic Malaysian food. Strongly recommend. Will return.
This is the some of the best food I ve ever had. Very delicious and tasty flavor from east Asia and I ve never had fried rice this good. Amazing and I am very surprised this only had a 4.2/5 rating. I would come back here if I lived in Vancouver. Places like this make me consider moving lol! Also, service was amazing, especially from James, who made sure we had an unforgettable experience. Had amazing fried rice and also chicken curry. My wife said this is the best chicken curry she ever had.
Good food! They said only their lamb is halal. As a malay, i hope one day all of the food can be halal!
Surprising Malaysian chain serving up some typical and atypical dishes. The eggplant fries were the unexpected winner at the table! Delicately crispy outside with a melt-in-your-mouth inside! The Satay skewers were our honorary mention because theyre typically underwhelming at most restaurants, but were quite good here.
We found the food to be ok, the eggplant fries were not crispy and seem small for its price. The calamari sauce was delicious, but again the calamari were not crispy as expected. Mee Goreng was delicious. The Char Kuey Tuew was good too but in terms of shrimp and tofu ratio to noodles it seems too pricey. The service was great and the atmosphere was amazing.
We need to review the staff more often. Its not just about the food. Service counts. Banana Leaf is known for great food. Lets give the great staff the cheers they deserve. Vegetarian options: They offer it. Case closed.
All around winner here, nice cool dining inside on a hot day. Enjoyed the BBQ pork lettuce wraps but really loved the Coconut Panna Cotta. And its vegan so my sister could eat it too!
I love laksa so much their laska is wonderful
We sat very nicely on the cozy terrace on a warm summer evening in the shade and enjoyed excellent food brought to us by a super friendly staff. A really enjoyable evening.
Best Malaysian in Vancouver! Papaya salad, roti canal (best curry came along with it) and chicken skewers were amazing ! The Mango passionfruit drink and the triple layer milk tea were super great! Excellent happy hour specials as well. Friendly service :)
One of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver. Eggplant fries very good. We have been coming here 7 years at the time of this writing, always top bar updates (6.29.24) more AAA+++ ty
Delicious food, nice ambiance, didn t have to wait long for the food
We had a phenomenal time here! Some of us got the 7 course tasting lunch (only $29!) and every dish was delicious! The satay especially was absolutely incredible - tender and very well seasoned. We also got the char kuey teow which was good though its a bit closer to chow hor fun style rather than penang char kuey teow. Still our entire party really enjoyed and the service was also excellent!
Delicious !!! Great atmosphere and very attentive service.
Just had the most amazing meal here. I could not believe my eyes having a cold pilsner in downtown Vancouver for half price on Wednesday. Well I had 3. Sure the cheap high quality beer was an amazing surprise but the food.... The Abundant seafood was delish with banana leaf wrapped coconut rice, and so was the egg noodles and fried calamari. Ive been living in Vancouver for 10 years and now I feel like an idiot for not coming before. Fernanda, our server, was also very efficient and pleasant to talk to. Great service and smiles all around. easiest 5 stars Ive given.
Overall a great lunch here. Had high expectations for the roti canai; however, it felt like they didnt cook it long enough. It was crisply on the outside but a tad doughy on the inside. The coconut curry was also bland...which is a bummer for this dish. Other than that, the Singaporean laksa, char kuey teow, and nasi lemak was delicious
Tried out the $29/person thing for two. 1. For this price the amount of food was hardly enough for a couple people - you can stuff yourself with food thats similar in a ton of other places around Vancouver. The taste was good, but its overpriced and not worth it considering whats being offered. 2. Walking into the restaurant around 3:30 PM on a Sunday the waiting staff member was busy looking at his phone and we stood for a solid 10 minutes wondering if hes going to come up to the front to get us a table. 3. The waitress slammed the card machine down on our table while we were talking. We looked at each other wondering if this just happened - it was a lot like a youre done with food so please leave kind of vibe. On the way out we said thank you, and of course didnt hear a thank you back. The minimum tip was 18% but I would have preferred to tip 0% Overall the food is okay, the service needs an overhaul, and the value compared to equivalent restaurants in Vancouver is not up to the mark.
Excellent flavors! If you want a healthy and cultured meal in Vancouver then go here. We had the mango jicama salad, eggplant fries and the chicken satay.
Oh Boy! Sooo good ! The eggplant just melts in your mouth. We had several dishes and they were all tasty and yummy. Very friendly and smilie waitresses. Highly recommended!!! Sooo yummy
Amazing menu, reasonable prices and outstanding service. We tried 8 courses dinner for two - delicious dishes with exotic spices. We will be back to explore what we did not taste this time. Highly recommended!
OMG. So darn good. Wish I had this Ontario. One of the best meals Ive had.
Best ginger beef ever!
Had Malaysian food after 2 weeks of travelling around Canada, and you guys were amazing! Big shout out to Ken who served us tonight. You were so kind to us and ensured our kids had a good time too. Wish you all the very best Ken. Delicious food and amazing service!
We loved the meal. Favourite dish by far was the egg plan in mushroom sauce, mussels and hainin chicken also great, with the ginger garlic rice. Vegetarian options: Plant based options marked on the menu
Great spot! We sat on the patio nice vibes a highlight was the vegan basil eggplant dish, super flavourful tablemates also enjoyed the cumin mussels and the cold chicken dish also the green smoothie drink, very refreshing lovely server as well highly recommended Vegetarian options: Lots of veg and vegan options
I love Banana Leaf! They always have amazing service and delicious food. They have such a varied menu, you can mostly find something that everyone will like. I appreciate the gluten free options too!
The food is really good. The problem with these restaurants is that their portions are not big. Sometimes I feel hungry after eating in such nice places. I dont think it is because I eat a lot but it is the vogue in these restaurants to have small portions. Or maybe they think we are birds!!
Good food, but make sure you ask them specifically what the price is if youre ordering out from their lunch menu because there is a discount if you order before 5. If they dont think you know that, they will charge you full price. Im sure its not personal and just how they do business but it just happened to me and was nearly fooled with an alternative 10% takeout discount instead of the lunch hour special thats cheaper. When I called them out on this they quickly fixed the error and kind of brushed it off. When I asked why no more 10% takeout discount, the girl said its already too much now, which is interesting because the price for the food I ordered should have nothing to do with whether I should still be eligible for a takeout discount. Not a fan of shady business practices and just feels like they were initially trying to keep me from realizing that Im paying full price by distracting me with a takeout discount. The special price for the kai si pho I ordered is also what the regular price should be ($19). Its absolute madness that anyone would spend $25 for that soup at full price when you compare the average price with the other restaurants that serve pho in the neighbourhood.
Highly recommend the mussels and clams appetizers. Service was great and I enjoyed eating outside with the pretty flowers in the flower boxes. Second day in Vancouver and loving the diverse cuisine from so many different cultures. So happy!
Very good flavour. We tried the 10 course sampler and it was so good! Friendly staff and nice decor/atmosphere.
It was amazing- great atmosphere and eye opening food. The solo adventure was amazing. My fave was the panna cotta out of that seven meal course~ Atmosphere: 4.5/5 Food: 4.8/5 Price range: $-$$ Comeback rate: 100%
The food was so bomb and the service was excellent
Its a nice place to have a dinner. We ordered lamb and cold chicken. the quality of food was SO disappointing.
Laksa was an unforgettable taste. Everyone was very welcoming, service was kind and fast! I think this is the best Malaysian restaurant :) Food : 5/5
I don t like the food
Tried the $59 tasting menu figuring why not as I ve never had Malay Cuisine before. Sadly I was greatly disappointed. Out of 12 items only 3 I d consider decent. Satay Chicken was cooked well but the sauce that accompanied it was borderline lacking Curry Beef was tasty but only had 5 chunks of Meat Coconut Rice Rest of the items just lacked flavour or taste. Flavours were quite muddled. Similarly drinks were not good. Singapore Slings were too sweet, and the Negroni was awful. One sip and I was done. Had the The Tarik but that too tasted like it had been sitting in a pitcher for hours. Flavour was watered down. Service wasn t steady. We had 3 plates show up and then waited 20 minutes for the next round. Meanwhile our neighbouring table kept getting their plates all at once. Seems like a lack of refinement. Don t fall for this tourist trap because of its proximity to Stanley Park.
Good food. Seafood curry plate was very good. Mango tiger shrimp was a bit sweet for our taste. Mai tai and sangria delicious Food : 4/5 |
The mussel we had is not fresh at all. We told the waiter about this issue. He said it was purchased in the morning and that was it. I did have diarrhea after dinner!
We are very satisfied with this kitchen. We just got shells at this establishment that were mostly empty. Only shells
My brother and I stopped by on our way out of Vancouver for dinner. Ordered Assam Tofu and Char Kway Teow. The food wasn t as flavourful as it looked. Lacked a bit of spice and a kick. I ended up adding some chilli oil and lime juice. The lime juice really helped. Overall an average experience. Service and atmosphere was good.
The food was overwhelmingly sweet, to the point where my friend couldnt eat most of their meal. I too struggled to finish the prawn in the mango and prawns dish due to its excessive sweetness. Additionally, the service left much to be desired.
We ordered pineapple fried rice, mango papaya salad, and wok-fried clams. This combination worked just right for us (2 ppl). All of them were great! Just clams had some sands in it, which was annoying but the sauce of it was perfect. The happy hour in this restaurant is really friendly too. It is 11:30-5:00 EVERYDAY! I can feel they truly want you to enjoy their meal with a good price! Highly recommend! Love this place.
Yummy food and great service!
The place is extremely expensive, the food prices that they charge you are almost like a resort restaurant. Ambience is 2/5 at most with cheap IKEA cutlery. Most dishes start at $25 and then they expect a minimum 20% tip at the end.Easily 90-100$ for 2 people.
The food at all Banana Leaf is consistently delicious and fun. My favourite location is Robson as its charming. Make sure to try the sampling menus (there are a few with different selections and number of courses) as theyre great value, you get to taste all the best dishes that Banana Leaf offers. This is one of our most favourite food in Vancouver!
James is the man! Thank you so much
The food is always amazing! My favorite.
8-courses menu was not so impressive. I feel like we got so much veggie dishes compared with other 9 or 12 courses. I prefer the location on Davie for the better food taste. Food
Got a reservation and came in 20mins early. Tons of space left but the hostess told us to wait for a big table as we are early. As 30 mins passed. Another group came and the hostess immediately said the table would be ready shortly. And gave us a different table than what we were told. The table was open since we came in. Food was sub par. More Thai than Malaysian. The atmosphere was okay.
The owner and chef are Malaysian Outfield from Hong Kong Open locally for at least 27 years Super authentic Nanyang cuisine
This Malaysian-style restaurant is opened by a boss from Hong Kong. From appetizers to desserts, every dish is delicious.
I was very disappointed last time ! Food was fine but when I order Mai Tai - it was 1/2 club soda and 1/2 some juice- I didn t feel any alcohol or any taste. Really upsetting drink for $15 !!!
My friends and I have been here countless times; the considerate and cool servers make the visits great every time.
I was serve by this Brazilian server and she was absolutely lovely, I don t remember her name but she gave me an amazing service. She recommended this peach Bellini and made it very quickly and even gave me the little extra from the blender, it was fantastic. 10/10 will definitely comeback if the service is always like this!
Split two tasting menus among four people and youre golden.
I came back to this restaurant after a few years being away and craving the Kung pow. I was very disappointed as were my guests in the high vinegar content of the sauce, I asked for a sauce on the side, and it was the same very disappointed. Must be a different recipe than years ago.
This is one of the first Malaysian cuisine that opened in Vancouver BC. we used to come to this location along Broadway to dine growing up in Vancouver . We still do whenever we are in town. The food is authentic. The atmosphere is good all of our picky eaters actually like the food. They like fast foods to my chagrin. They love the baba chicken, an appetizer, it s basically fried chicken. it comes scorching hot from the fryer. It no longer is on the menu, but one could request it. The kids also like the satays, the roti canai and the curries. I am thankful that this restaurant has been consistent and lasted through the decades. It speaks for the food and service quality in this city with so many restaurants. Kid-friendliness: Fried chicken and roti
We tried this restaurant and was impressed with the quality of the food . And the service was as great.
Good Asian food with a variety of dishes.
Exquisite Malaysian cuisine with set menu, super delicious and unbelievable price
Always fantastic food at the Robson St location, one of my very favourite dining experiences.
The WORST restaurant Ive ever been in my life. The food is not even edible, I was trying so hard to eat it, but it was impossible, literally I just could eat 10% of my plate because besides the horrible taste, I found a large black hair. I wouldnt come back even if I was paid for it. Words cant describe the bad experience I had there. Zero recommended.
ANOTHER 1 star review, not because I was unlucky enough to eat here again but because I just had the second worst experience at a restaurant ever, truly AWFUL, almost inedible with horrible service and it STILL wasnt as bad as Banana Leaf.
Good service. Normal food. I was looking for a real Malaysian restaurant but this resto isn t. I don t recommend : Singapore Chili Lobster Tails , what tasted like the lobster version of sweet and sour pork. Recommended dishes Pineapple Fried Rice
Excellent food, authentic and delicious! Generous portions that we were able to share and enjoy a variety.Highly recommended the Roti , Beef Curry , Mango Prawns and Pineapple Fried Rice. Service was also great, everyone very friendly and nice.Definitely will be back again.
We came to this place last year and had the 12 courses tasting meal and the food were awesome! We came back again this year, it was changed to just 11 courses, and the fired oyster was replaced with calamari. The mussel, rendang and scallop were great however everything else was just too sweet (so sweet that we could hardy taste the flavour of the main ingredients) for some reason. Have there been a change of chef? The service was still 5 stars though. We really love to come back again I hope the management can take note of this. Apparently we are not the first one complaining about the food being too sweet.
I tried their Davie location before, and it was really good. When someome recommended the Mee Goreng which it supposed to be a fried noodle, I decided to try another location. Unfortunately, I was dissatisfied with my food. First of all, the noodle was soaked by some kind of sauce unlike how it is featured. It wasn t fried at all, and they told they don t serve crispy ones! Then how come it s called fried noodles?? Secondly, it supposed to be spicy I ordered just for that, but it was sweet! I do not recommend anyone to go to this location.
Dined in with family. Professional service and we enjoyed the food.
terima kasih !! Casual fine Malaysian grub at reasonable fare, hosting a semi-authentic menu with plenty of vegetarian options. I got the Singapore Laksa on a lunch haul, not as spicy at all compared to what I have hoped l and lacking any type of vegetables, but pretty yummy and plenty of protein packed in there. Staff are really friendly and catered to amending it to a vegetarian option with Tofu, it tasted extremely coconuty to a traditional Laksa but not half bad. The joint itself is dope, super nice atmosphere and vibe for a casual laidback feast. Support local businesses!
Nice place if you miss Malaysian food. Ambience is nice too
Lovely staff, great space, wonderful service. Plenty to choose from on their lunch menu for $17/dish otherwise can seem a little pricey for portions that you get. Mee goreng was our favorite of what we tried.
If you are looking for something light and refreshing, this is the place to go! I like their papaya salad and sambal vegetables the best. And don t forget to try their cocktail as well as 3 layers milk tea!
Had bday party here on a Saturday night. They managed to give the entire upstairs to our party. Service was good, quick, attentive, and food delicious. James and another server brought out our cake, sang louder than us, and knew the bdays persons name too! Thank you for the amazing night!
The food was good. The server actively embarrassed me when I paid the bill. The table was separated into two bills one for the food and non-alcoholic drinks. The other was alcoholic drinks. I paid the first bill 150.00 with a small tip on that bill. That is when the server made a loud rude comment about why I was unhappy with everything after I said everything was great. The other bill paid a tip generously. But I should not have done that in hindsight. I will not go back.
Food is great. And the service is always great. I keep coming there for years. Parking: I always find parking on the street Kid-friendliness: They dont have kids menu, but my daughter loves roti canai and chicken skewers, they do have high chairs and are very friendly towards kids.
Yumm Chicken Satay and Pineapple Fried Rice. Family liked prawn curry. Kids drank fancy coconut water. Must go.
I d like to share my experience with this restaurant with everyone who wants to try it. I went there with my family and I ran into my friend and her friends. We order some drinks and food witch we didn t like the stew and the rice! The amount of food was too small and too pricey. Their customer service was normal as a casual dinning, so we all decided to skip the tip; OMG when we wanted to get out the server stop us why you didn t give us tips I didn t know what I should answer him!!!! He was too rude and mad at me which was inappropriate. I won t recommend it to anyone to check it out. Probably it doesn t worth it to wast your money and time!
Loved the place, the service, all the food including the speciality- Singapore Chili Crab & Ginger Sable fish.
Expensive restaurant, low quality of food, I didn t want to give them tip because of nonsense expensive bill with low quality and also my son didn t have his food and didn t like it. The server got mad at me that why i didn t pay tip and he said we have to pay to the kitchen staff and he also said you must add tip!!!! I can t believe it
I dont recommend this restaurant, the food I ordered had a bad smell with dry and old rice which was so bad. The menu is pricey, quality is not good. NOT RECOMMEND
If you want to enjoy the fresh and tasty seafood then I dont recommend this restaurant.
Dined in April 8, 2023 - This was not the banana leaf cafe experience I had at the Broadway location. We got the lobster tail singapore chili & rice special. It was awful - one lobster tail cut four ways bathed in the worst sauce that was sickeningly sweet, while overly salty and zero spice for $33. Avoid this dish. We also got the sablefish carmelized ginger for happy hour. Sad to learn that the fish is fried. Overall so disappointed as a previously loyal customer. Not worth the price point.
Very tasty food! And excellent service
I ve tried the roti for the first time and it was delicious!! The service was excellent too the servers were really friendly.
I love the roti and satay here. The chicken wings are also really good. Great service as well. The lychee mojito is really refreshing Food
Friendly staff, really helpful. First time having Malaysian food and it was amazing. Must try the lobster tail
Really delicious food. Came here at 10pm on last call and happy hour. Left the place feeling full and nourished.
Ordered the mussels and clams, both were horrible and definitely not fresh. Even my 6yr old who loves mussels was like these taste funny .
Very good food, nice ambiance, very friendly staff. Love the rotti canai, chicken stay, char kuey tiaw and braised beef. Ambiance was very nice too. Would go back again
Food was not very tasty ...
The food was great and the brazilian server was super friendly! Highly recommend
Their roti canai was delicious. We ordered a beef curry and had some beef with roti (from the roti canai) - the combination was out of the world. Outdoor seating could be improved by adding some space heaters and a little shade.
Everything was tasty. Glad they had a tasting lunch option to try the different dishes.
Awesome tasting meal & excellent service
This is a revised downgraded review for lack of consistency on my second visit. Original: The food here was unexpectedly fantastic. I ordered the Thursday special Assam Seafood Curry and it was surprisingly good. A good balance of Seafood including fish, mussels, shrimp, squid and scallops mixed together with vegetables such as okra and aubergine. For such balanced nutrition i thought the Thursday special was amazing. I might go every Thursday. The customer service was also very good.
This place was wonderful! Authentic Malaysian food in a classy environment. Worth the drive from Seattle
West End staple, really good.
Food was delicious. Serving is a good portion to satisfy a hardy appetite. Service is attentive. The owner was there and gave particular attention to guests.
William is an excellent, immaculate guy, very good customer service. Always attentive to his customers. One of our friend was vegetarian, we mentioned to remove egg and other meat from the dish, Chef mistakenly added egg, they replaced the dish for free. I would highly recommend this place. Thanks William.
This Malaysian food has some of the most delicious array of mouth watering flavours, and every dish I have tried has not disappointed! My absolute favourite are the Beef Rendang, the Sambal Green Beans and the Roti Canai. It is on the pricier side, however well worth it.
Amazing Malaysian food, delicious drinks, great service, reasonable pricing.
Their beef randang is so good with the pineapple fried rice! My girl and I crave for this place all the time! Soo bombs! Go try it out for yourself!
First meal when me and my family visited Vancouver for my birthday vacation. It was quite good! I Took a chicken based dish with rice, egg and nuts. It was a little dry and could use more sauce/seasoning but it tasted really good still. Otherwise, we had eggplant fries as an appetizer; by itself it was a little bland but it had a nice sweet sauce accompanying it. Overall I recommend this place for dine in the dishes were pretty creative, the inside atmosphere had a cool tropical tiki theme and the quality of the food is up there.
Food is good but what overpriced for what it is. I totally understand the lease in this area is nuts and staff need to be paid and profit needs to be made but I would not come back here unless someone else is paying. I look at value and dont mind paying a lot but it needs to be worth jt. Cheers!
Food is delicious service is very good a comfortable place to dine in.
Great place here. Waiters were great and food was delicious! Tried the Nasi Lemak and for drinks had a pitcher.
There wasn t a lot of people there but the food was good the fried rice was amazing Vegetarian options: We can take meat out of stuff
Service.....great. Food.....great. Atmosphere....great. Loved their lamb skewer sharable for lunch. It was tender, juicy and tasted deliciously bbqd. Their Chicken Curry was also amazing.....tender juicy chicken with creamy curry, okra, eggplant, green beans and yellow peppers. The Roti Canai was exciting. I say exciting because I love my bread, and this was light, fluffy, freshly baked and it came with a side curry to dip it in, and the combined tastes blew the roof off. Honestly....my mouth is watering while Im writing this....and I just ate. Moving on..... The service was great....attentive, friendly and professional. If youre into Malaysian - Thai style food...you wanna check this place out. Loved it. Will definitely be back.
The food taste nice and ambience is also pretty good. The drinks were very refreshing.
They use the bait and switch scam. Outside the restaurant they have a sign offering a 7 course meal for $27. When entering the restaurant after 4:30 it changes to a 9 course meal for $49. The outside sign never says it s until 4:30. When asking the manager, he was extremely rude and raised his voice while pointing at us. The service here is horrible and I will never return. Many other restaurants to try
Fantastic food and very prompt service. We went there for lunch and yet the place was full. We sat outside on the patio. The restaurant was very accommodating with our allergies. All the items we ordered were amazing and had unique tastes and flavors. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to try Malaysian food
We love Malaysian food. Banana Leaf on Robson St in Vancouver certainly did not disappoint us. Excellent food, appropriate portions tendered by superb service. Vegetarian options: Good choices
Really tasty food and amazing nonalcoholic drinks! Could have more vegetarian dishes.
Amazing foods ! best coconut water ever!!
This place is phenomenal. I really slept on Malay cuisine but I think its time awake from slumber... Food was A1. The service was really friendly and quick. The washroom was clean. I literally have 0 reasons to complain. Big ups!
I keep wanting to with this place but it is really lacking. The older server is particularly rude when we have come. Serving too long I think, the girl we had this time maybe fench canadian(not that it matters just explaining who it was)I am not sure gave such basic service it felt like McDonalds. Seeing the 30 percent tip option was hilarious. The meat overall was tough each time and the pork belly app especially was terrible. Absolutely rubber and the other dishes so much oil it was crazy. Our last time here. We love Malaysian food but there is better food and service elsewhere. Perhaps pass on to the staff to stop chatting at the bar and go quality check and chat with the people they are expecting a tip from. Spend your money elsewhere. There is no line for a reason I guess on what is busy Sumner evenings for everyone else downtown.
The food was delicious, and the interior was great. I definitely had a great experience, and the staff were professional!
A fantastic experience! I normally don t write reviews, but this restaurant really blew my mind. I went with my family and we shared their sharing menues which were absolutely delicious. The staff was very attentive and helpful throughout our whole meal. Can definitely recommend.
Tasty menus! Service was ok, was kind of hard to get servers attention despite having gone during the slow hour.
Avoid at all costs if you are a vegetarian!!! I ordered the kung Pao cauliflower and said it very clearly and upon arriving the server even said heres your kung Pao cauliflower. I took some bites and realized it was chicken and definitely not cauliflower. I had not eaten meat for almost 10 years so this was devastating and made me feel terrible. When the server was told of the mistake she made it my fault for not telling her I was vegetarian which shouldnt matter when ordering a clearly stated vegetarian dish. She would not own up to her mistake and kept making it my fault. Terrible service and would never recommend anyone with any kind of dietary restrictions to eat here.
The meal was very excellent and well spiced. Good value for money!
Superb Malaysian food at a very reasonable price. The service was impeccable. Our server, Jen was friendly, courteous, and advised as well on the specialties of the house. Kudos to her and to this restaurant. I highly recommend it. I will definitely be going back.
My husband wanted to try out this place and compare it to what we have tried in Malaysia. It delivered. We walked in on a busy evening but still were welcomed in and did not have to wait for a table. They even moved us to a better table when it opened up. We tried a few things on the menu and absolutely loved the food. The service was exceptional not only from our server but every employee that walked by our table checked in with us. Can t wait to come back for some more roti canai.
Absolutely the best! Super friendly staff and the food is incredible, we had the $26 dollar a person special and left both full and satisfied.
Classic Malaysian flavor, warm service, and a very nice atmosphere Vegetarian options: Tofu and vegetarian pancakes are all authentic
Got the mango sticky rice to go. The rice was still hard and uncooked and the block of rice was so hard that the fork could not get thorough it. I would not recommend!
Not bad for Malaysian food during lunchtime. The mock tails is good. Two good drinks I can recommend is three layer milk tea and passionfruit mango. Nasi lemak is not bad almost the same as I had in Malaysia except the sambal sauce is a bit spicer at Banana Leaf. One complaint is the chicken spice should be quarter chicken instead of chicken wing pieces. Char kuey teow is good dish. This noodle dish has fish sauce taste but it does not over power the dish. Al dente noodles with a bit of bite. Lamb stew is okay as not much taste. Two sides is roti and skewers. Out of the two sides, roti is better as freshly cooked and with coconut curry dipping sauce. The chef/s made the roti perfectly as it was crispy and flaky. Skewers was the weakest side as it was cook too long and dry. Even sauce cannot help the skewers. Overall good place for Malaysian food.
First time to a Malaysian restaurant and loved everything we ate! The host could be better but he seemed to be family so definitely not going away. Our waitress was pleasant but when we asked for recommendation she said everything is good. The older staff made up for the lack of service from younger ones.
Super slow service for average Malay food. I always try Malay food, esp. ROTI Canai if I can find it since I used to live in Singapore. I can tell you this was just below average. You can find much better Canai in Canada. My complaint relates to the curry they serve it with. Roti 6/10, Curry 3/10.
I promised the waitress that the five-star review from the Czech republic is on the way... and here is: We ordered beef rendang for me and curry boneless chicken for my wife, together with four Red Truck Lager beers. Pros: - very quick delivery of the meals - quite large portions of meat - extremely tasty courses with a perfect harmony of spices - very pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant - affordable and reasonable pricing Cons: - we found none The final result: We made a new reservation for Wednesday here:-) Thank you for a such superb service!
Exceptionally kind service, delicious flavourful hot food, quick accommodating seating. Thank you so much!
This restaurant never disappoints, delicious food and amazing staff!
Our first meal in Canada (visiting from the UK) and it was truly amazing. We ordered the 7 course tasting menu and all the dishes were absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. The crisp fresh salad, roti, beef rendang and the green beans were all full of flavour and perfectly balanced. Our favourite dish was the fish with the ginger and lime sauce - it was the best fish dish I have ever had! The panna cotta was also very refreshing and a perfect end to our meal. The staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. If you are in this area then try this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Banana Leaf Malaysian Cuisine in Vancouver, and I cant say enough good things about this place! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and attentive service, setting the stage for an exceptional dining experience. Now, lets talk about the food. The Beef Rendang at Banana Leaf is an absolute must-try! The tender chunks of beef were slow-cooked to perfection in a rich and flavorful coconut curry sauce. Every bite was a burst of savory, aromatic goodness. Another standout dish was the Roti Canai. These flaky, buttery, and slightly crispy flatbreads were an absolute delight. Served with a side of curry dipping sauce, they were the perfect combination of textures and flavor! I would love to try their mango sticky rice, unfortunately it was unavailable that night. I will make sure to try it next time
Good food, reasonable prices, and lovely service. Appreciated that it was cozy and no music playing. You could have a conversation and enjoy your meal. Food : 4/5
Amazing food!
Delicious Asian cuisine. Everything tastes great, the dessert is so so good. Will come back again. 7 dishes per person tasting course is awesome !!! Food
Authentic taste of Malaysian/ Indonesian food. Great atmosphere.
Tastes real good. Not near Malaysian authentic cuisine much but good food. Tried the Nasi Lemak and the sambal was bit too sweet, expected spicier. Overall nice food. Would definitely visit again.
An authentic taste of Malaysia! I headed here for lunch, hoping to satisfy my cravings for good quality Malaysian food and was not disappointed. The service is really friendly and attentive and the restaurant has touches of traditional Malay wood carvings throughout. I went for the Beef Rendang, Roti Canai (layered flat bread) and 3 layer tea with gula melaka (palm sugar). All dishes hit the spot. The rendang was just as I used to have it when I lived in Kuala Lumpur, superb. Make a point of visiting, you wont be disappointed.
If you go to Vancouver, be sure to try a delicious dinner at Banana Lief. Wonderful service, atmosphere and food. Service was wonderful.
Food is delicious and the service was very kind and attentive! I strongly recommend your visit there when you come to Vancouver!
We had the tasting lunch for two people, and it was a top notch experience. I highly recommend.
Totally stunning food!! Prompt, helpful service as well. The nasi goreng is VERY good, and the roti was a surprising favourite! Beautiful restaurant.
I loved the place, very tasty food, wonderful service! I recommend it, I will always come back!
The set of 12 dishes was excellent and delicious :-)
Food is just ok, but a little pricy.
Good taste, good place and good price for the value you get. Definitely I recommend a visit if you are in downtown Vancouver. Parking: Outside the places there is parking (Public and paid) Kid-friendliness: You can come with kids, but the place doesn t have space for them to play. Still, you can bring them.
Absolute recommendation! We had the 10-course tasting menu, it was an absolute taste experience! Each dish was prepared to perfection, very tasty sauces, good portion sizes and very friendly staff. Gladly again.
We visit 2 - 3 times per year. The ten course tasting menu for $52 is wonderful. Very high quality, delicious and more than enough. I did the good food waddle all the way home.
Had the $52/person 10 course tasting menu, plenty of food for 4 people. Quality and taste surpassed expectations. Highly recommend!!!
Great for both fairy and gluten free. Interesting cocktails. Get lots of rice because the sauces are delicious. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free labeled on menu.
Ive been walking past this restaurant for over a decade and was always curious about trying it out. I got the 10 course tasting menu, and it was below average at best. Servers kept taking the dishes away even before we were done. Unlike serving a tasting menu, they brought 4-5 dishes at the same time and wont even tell what the dishes were. Their menu prices advertised outside the restaurant door are different than the prices they charge inside.
I m just in love Keith shrimp&chicken noodle Sooo tasty Food
We found this place online and we loved the meals they were displaying and wanted to try it out. So we decided to go visit it tonight for date night and we were welcomed immediately on arrival and given a nice table by the window. We waited a little long to get our drinks and order taken but once we got the order in, things kept rolling pretty efficiently. Food was really tasty and well presented. Service was friendly and food was fresh. Eggplant fries were delicious. We will certainly be back for more tasty treats. Parking: Paid parking in street and across road at Safeway parking
