Named after Chef Francisco’s mother, Ophelia will specialize in authentic Mexican cuisine prepared with a refined, elevated approach. “Given my strong connection to Mexican cuisine, we saw an opportunity to take advantage of my knowledge and passion and do something truly unique here in Olympic Village,” Higareda explains. “My mother inspired my love of cooking and it will be a true honour to return to my roots and pay homage to her and my country at Ophelia this spring.” Ophelia will also offer a fully licenced bar serving handcrafted cocktails made with premium tequilas and mezcals, along with local and imported craft beers, and New- and Old-World wines.
We had a wonderful dining experience with friends tonight. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent and the ambiance was lovely. The seating was so comfortable with beautiful lumbar support pillows. It has been a long time since we have found a restaurant with the right music volume such that one can enjoy the music as well as hear everyone at the table. Will definitely return and highly recommend this restaurant.
Very nice interior and atmosphere. Guacamole appetizer was good. Molcajete presentation was very nice but the meat was not edible, maybe the toughest meat I have ever had. Told the waiter but did nothing?? No credit or even complimentary dessert. Very disappointing. Enchilada's were very good and the Flan dessert was exceptional. After dinner the plates were left on the table for over 20min. Would try again but service needs to be better and at least do something, when there is a legitimate issue.
Date night with the Mrs. I had the bone marrow tacos and the beef was tough and chewy. Lots of flavour though. Usually the dish comes with 1/2 bone but they said there wasn’t much marrow so they gave me a whole bone. Good cocktails and service was on point. Wife said her fish tacos were tasty.
I recently had the pleasure of dining a **Ophelia**, and I must say, this place exceeded all my expectations! The atmosphere is absolutely incredible – I fell in love with the interior design the moment I walked in. There's a stunning artwork on the wall that really catches your eye, and it’s become a signature piece that everyone associates with the restaurant. As for the food, it's nothing short of **delicious**. Every dish was bursting with flavor, and the presentation was top-notch. If you're going, you absolutely must try the "Taco de Arrachera Y Bone Marrow" – it’s an unforgettable dish, cooked to perfection. Overall, Ophelia offers a perfect blend of amazing ambiance and outstanding food. I can't recommend it enough!
First time to check out this restaurant and we were absolutely very impressed with the food, drinks and the ambiance. I have to say this is the best Mexican food I have ever had in Vancouver. The elevated approach definitely brings elevated experience. Will come back again! 👍👍
Another Michelin-guide restaurant, Ophelia serves Mexican dinners with weekend brunch options. I’ve visited twice to try out both menus and have some mixed feelings. Would say that their seafood options>beef for me. Really like the gothic and dark ambiance though it can be hard to talk over dinner (brunch was way more quiet). Service was pretty friendly. Chicharron de Rib Eye ($24) 6/10 Ribeye with guacamole and Habanero refried beans, served with corn tortilla. I have mixed feelings about this one. Love the guacamole and refried beans, however steak was pretty tough…. Volcanes de Arrecharra ($22.5) 7/10 Despite also being beef, this one was somehow more tender (wish I had gotten this one instead). The corn chips and pickles also helped make the dish lighter, balancing the cheddar cheese. Pulpo en Mole Blanco ($44) 8/10 One of the better octopus dishes in Vancouver. Crispy crunch from the corn batter, paired with fragrant cilantro rice and creamy white mole sauce. The chorizo, kale, and zucchini also managed to complement the whole dish. Grilled 16oz Cache Greek Ribeye ($74) 5/10 The chorizo and cheese potato tasted great for the first few bites, and afterwards got really overwhelming. Steak was okay…. Happy they cooked it correctly to rare but wasn’t anything special otherwise. The villa amuhada sauce was great, but I would say get their non-beef menu. Tres Leches Cake ($10) 8/10 As a fan of milk based desserts, I never missed a chance to get tres leches cake, which was soaked with three types of milks and rum, served with berry compote and lime whipped cream pistachio crumbles. Since the actual cake was extremely sweet, the zesty berry and lime actually worked really well to cut through the richness. Prawn Ceviche Tostada ($18.25) Didn’t try since I’m allergic to shrimp. Heard good feedbacks from people though.
Can’t complain about anything here. Food was delicious and service was great! The weekly Monday drink special was delicious as well. Would definitely visit again and already looking forward to the next time :-)
A really disappointing experience sadly. My friend and I went today for the first time - in fact, I had this place on my list for a good while and I was really excited to eventually check it out. Unfortunately, other than the nice ambience and the polite staff, the main thing - the food - was extremely disappointing, especially considering the fairly high prices. The presentation of the dishes was good, but other than that, the actual food was poorly made. The octopus was very dry, the pork belly poorly cooked. Except for the appetizer, which was pretty good, everything else was bland.
Excellent experience. My old friends from Joe Fortes have done an amazing job with this place. In from Dallas and stumbled across the restaurant and learned who the owners were.
The marrow is the best and the hoe tacos
Beautiful decorations. Love the cocktails and interesting mini tacos
Very clean and classy! Their food was spicy as chosen and it was quite delicious. Service was slow with the drinks and we had our apps come long before they came.
Friendly server. Good balance of sourness and spiciness in taste.
Food is good, service was pretty good, nice enough decor, fairly loud.
This place is set up so well inside and paired with the warmth of their staff and the delectable food, it was a wonderful dining experience!
Great expeirence with some fantastic tacos and margaritas!
Great meal. Bone marrow tacos were a highlight. The guac is a basic but delightful starter. The octopus left a little to be desired but still enjoyed it. The molcajete was great; so much food and flavour. Make sure to eat the steak first though as it go tougher the longer it was in the hot salsa
Unfortunately was asked for a $1000 minimum spend (before tax) in a very passive aggressive way by the manager Andrew for a group of 13. With some people just ordering the tacos for $24 and no drinks, this number hovering over our heads would create a stressful environment at dinner so we cancelled after the manager insulted me. Wish I couldve tried the food.
I ve been a loyal customer for years and promoter to friends and colleagues (getting gift cards to Ophelia to the point our friends expect it) but the last few times I ve been have clearly slid in service. Our most recent visit was the worst and for a special occasion I told them ahead of time about. So I think we re moving on to supporting some other restaurants in town. Food is good but that s about it. It s really too bad.
Great place, has got a good weekend vibe, great flavours in the dishes we tried, we ll be back.
The food, the music, the service, everything here is 5 stars
Pork belly was delicious! Service was amazing and atmosphere was very nice.
Jorge always takes great care of me when I come, the food is always on point and the drinks are always class
Ophelias has a great vibe and good food. I had the enchiladas - portion size was quite large.
I visited Ophelia Restaurant for my birthday, hoping for a special experience given its Michelin rating and all the positive things I had heard. However, we left extremely disappointed with both the food and service. The ambiance was lovely, but issues arose quickly. Our waiter forgot the complimentary salsa and chips until after our appetizer arrived. The Aguachile Negro was overly citrusy and imbalanced, with just one scallop and too many prawns. For the main course, the Molcajete de Arrachera y Camarón was a letdown. Mine was missing avocado and lime, while my friend s lacked chorizo and had hot, mushy avocado buried under the dish. The dishes were overwhelmed with too many onions, and the chunky salsa verde, ruining the balance and didn t complement the dish. For $42 dishes, we expected way better. The waiters apology and offer for a complimentary dessert felt hallow since he had already promised it for my birthday. A shot of tequila was appreciated but didnt make up for the meals poor quality. It felt more like a standard gesture than genuine compensation. The bone marrow taco stood out as the best dish of the night, but service continued to disappoint requests for extra salsa were partially fulfilled, leaving the rest of the table without. What makes this even worse is the lack of accountability. I emailed my feedback twice before receiving a response. Someone assured me they d follow up, but it has been a week, and I ve heard nothing. This lack of follow-through adds to the disappointment. This negligence is unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one with a Michelin rating. I had high hopes for Ophelia, but this experience has left me disappointed. I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously to meet the expectations associated with a Michelin-rated establishment.
The bone marrow is a must trial. Best margarita. Amazing salsa. Only complaint is my seat is super dark. Almost went blind when try to dig in to the bone marrow. Other than that , all great
Update: I visited again after a year, and this time the music volume was perfect, which made the vibe even better. The service was great, but the only thing I would comment on is that our waiter kept coming back to check if we were ready to order, which felt a bit rushed. Even though we were told we had the table for 2 hours, it felt like there was some pressure to order, eat, and leave early. However, I wouldn t remove a star rating for this alone. The steak, bone marrow tacos, and cod taco were all delicious. Overall, thank you for a great time! We had a great time here. I had the halibut and it was really good. Everyone else at our table ordered different type tacos and they were all happy with what they got. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the music was so loud that we could barely hear each other. I noticed people who were sitting on the patio didn t have our problem, so I guess if you would like to enjoy a conversation make sure you get a table outside.
I had an incredible evening at Ophelia. The staff were kind, friendly, and offered great suggestions. The molcajete was fantastic as were the cocktails. This is a top notch Mexican food experience!
We ate lunch on a Sunday and it was extremely quiet. Food very tasty with some interesting twists on traditional Mexican food.
Please, I beg you, try the mole - I had no idea there was so much to it. Cant wait to go back
Kid-friendliness: Very easy with a stroller Food
Probably the worst Mole I ever had. Over cooked chicken, salty and the mole sauce nothing special. This is not gourmet Mexican at all
Love this place! Every dish and every cocktail I ve had here has been amazing. On more than one occasion we ve had Alec as our server and he s always wonderful! It s our go to place for birthday celebrations
Great place however the price point for the food I would say is a lil much but great staff and area!
Nothing but good things to say Ophelia a drinks and food are superb. The service we received from the staff was some of the best my wife and I have ever had. The ambience was great as well. Would recommend to anyone. Oh, if you re like seafood, try the Octopus!
Very good food and cocktails (not to miss the Tuna Tostada and the Puerto Escondido Sour)! But what made the whole experience unforgettable is the service I received from Alec, amazing professionalism and kindness! Absolutely first class!
I am not the type to leave a review for a restaurant but I HAD TO! We were here for a birthday celebration and it got 10/10 on all fronts. Food was spectacular. Chef made some adjustments for my dietary requests, portions were generous, and service from our server Connor was unbelievable! He did so many small things that made our entire experience feel like we were being treated so well. Will 100% be coming back here over and over Vegetarian options: Vegan tacos were amazing
I absolutely enjoyed eating here. Amazing service and amazing meals. Plus the environment was my kind of vibe. Ill definitely be back.
Good service, food tasted not too bad, good flavor and reasonable pricing
My husband and I ate our way through Vancouver for a week and Ophelia s was so great we came back a 2nd time before we left. From the moment we arrived, the service was wonderful, thank you Alec you were so good- attentive without being obnoxious. We had the most amazing appetizer- the tuna tostada (incredible & so fresh), the tacos de pescado (also very fresh) which provided the perfect amount of spice & calm with the creamy quac. We both loved our drinks- a skinny margarita for me & the quatros chiles margarita for my husband & churros for dessert. Great atmosphere and a perfect meal to begin & end our trip. Highly recommend Ophelia!
EXTREMELY average food. As a Mexican, it s a shame that this is considered one of the better Mexican restaurants in Vancouver. I ve given it three chances, every time I leave disappointed with a stomach ache. If you want a real Mexican food experience that is properly priced, eat elsewhere.
Best Mexican food in Vancouver! Everything is top notch .
This is not the place to go if you have multiple dietary restrictions. I found it hard to order something as the chef wasnt willing to accommodate the dish I wanted. Even then, I felt off after eating the only two things I could find to eat. So, if you have both dairy and gluten allergies, this is not your place. Server was lovely, atmosphere pleasing. Dietary restrictions: Items are marked vegetarian or gluten free
The salad we had was good, the tacos were very greasy and the octopus dry and too spicy.
Octopus dish is a must try. So yum!
Service was great , but I was a bit disappointed of the octopus dishes . I got attracted by their IG recommendations and went a head to give it a try . The octopus was very disappointing. I did not expected 3 skinny octopus legs. Pork belly was ok and skin was crunchy.
Heres a quirky one for you theyve got the most incredible vegan tacos, and Im a meat lover! (I mean, seafood is my jam too, and that octopus is fire.) Plus, their margaritas are top-notch. Dont forget to cap off the perfect date with a massage at Enhance Arts Spa around the corner
Delicious. Flavourful. MUST TRY.
Looks like a high end place, however I did not have a very pleasant experience here. Requested to waiter if chorizo in another dish could be replaceable as I don t have it and he came back saying the cook said no. Ordered a ling cod which I did not like as it was super gooey. The bone marrow was delicious and hence the two stars. Overall ambiance was good too but the food and service was okayish.
Went there over the weekend and had made reservations. As soon as we arrived, the hostess mentioned that there were reservations in two hours (which we didnt have an issue with to start). Took 20-30mins after we sat down before someone came to take our drink order and then an additional 30mins after that before someone came to take our food order which is where the issues started coming up. If youre telling us there are reservations in 2 hours then we would assume that the service would match according to that timeline. Someone came around with an appetizer that was not ours and then we also saw what we believe to be our appetizer brought to someone elses table - a minute later, he came back with our appetizer (not from the direction of the kitchen, but from the direction of where it was dropped off at someone else table). Bone marrow was good, however, small but the prawns and chorizo in my dish was good - hence the 2 stars, however, the skirt steaks in all of our dishes were so chewy we couldnt bite or chew it (poor quality). I would definitely not order anything with the skirt steak again nor would I recommend it. We had finished our meals and dishes pretty empty and no one came to check in to see if they could take anything away/clear the table as it was nearing the time of the next reservation so as the hostess is looking at the time, she then comes rushing to clear the table in a hurry. My friends wife had mentioned to the waitress when ordering our meals that it was her husbands birthday (sitting next to her). They rushed to bring us the free dessert and placed it in front of my husband instead (10 mins before us having to leave the table). The whole experience just felt off putting which was unfortunate as we were really looking forward to having a good time/experience and meal and our group felt as if we were not welcome and was an inconvenience upon the staff there.
Great service, great food! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Food : 5/5 |
The food was good, but I was expecting it to be even better. That said, we still really enjoyed our dishes, and I must mention that the customer service is outstanding!
Amazing food, good wine, great atmosphere
Nothing short of transcendent. Impeccable cocktails, the tacos are a true religious experience. Huevos Divorciados to die for. Lovely service. We sat in silence, devouring and savouring authentic food.
Very tasty and a bit pricey but the happy hour makes it a sweeter deal. Chill environment, good service. Lots of space inside.
Very modern and cute Mexican restaurant in Olympics village. We had Tuna tostadas, prawn ceviche tostadas, octopus, vegan tacos, and margaritas! The food is 10/10, delicious + pretty! The staff were super friendly and helpful providing us good recommendations when we order. Will come again!
food was incredible! service was fantastic! but music was very loud.
Tuna tostada spilled by accident on our friend s lap as it was served. The tuna was a little on the salty side. The prawn tostada was pretty good though.
Skirt steak tacos w bone marrow are to die for.
This place is amazing. Love the mole chicken so much its hard dot order anything else. The ceviche and steak appetizers are amazing
Great happy hour options! Everything we got was super tasty and pretty reasonably priced for the portion size. Would recommend the vegetarian taco!
I expected more from the food at the price-point but it was a decent dining experience overall.
Pleasant dinner, good food, courteous staff and cozy environment.
Went for Happy hour and was not disappointed. Great service and food
Had the margarita, salad, octopus and pork tacos, very good. If you happen to get an octopus that s not tender, should definitely ask for a redo (didn t happen to us)
What a great ahthentic mexican restaurant. Food was amazing! Tasted like home! Food
We had a rather disappointing dinner. Those in the party that had the enchiladas thought there were okay. The fish tacos were flavorless. The taco trio was greasy. The ceviche was a little strange, though the appies were the best part of the meal. The street corn was awful. Our party had two. One was cold and both were old corn. I just bought some very fresh corn this week so I know it is out there. Needed more flavor. At least they comped it. Cocktails were alright and on special as it was Margarita Monday. The best thing about the place is that it is a short walk to Ernest Ice Cream.
I need to have another serrano margarita & enchilada
Unique and delicious food, Great prices and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended. Kid-friendliness: Everyone welcome.
I wouldn t recommend go to this place. Cannot believe the octopus costs $44 with this little portion even it tasted not bad, but average. The bowl is very salty also cost more than $40 and taste not good at all. Tacos are fine.
I used to rate Ophelia 5*, but now downgraded to 3*. The food was very good that kept me wanting to come back. Last night, I had the tuna tostada and pollo mole en dela casa. Both dishes have failed to impress me this time. The chicken was overcooked, and dry. The meat was not coming off tendee from the bones unlike before. The tostada was too hard and it was brittle, not crispy at all. Luckily, they brough new tostada to the table which was better. It still wasnt impressive given how much we eat out, I cant help but compare. Id say that Mexican restaurants with no Michelin recognition even tasted better than Ophelia that evening. I hope theyll improve and also make new dishes for their menu as it is now getting so boring. Love the location as it is very close to home.
One of the best and most authentic Mexican restaurants in Canada visiting from Toronto, we truly enjoyed our food last night (chicken enchilada, chicharrón ribeye and bone marrow) drinks and service were amazing too will be back 100%
Food was so so, the server barely attended to our table. Waited for 20 minutes to just get the bill. (Rushed ambient as servers are running all the time because of lack of enough staff????)
Exceeded my expectations! Their tacos are worth it! 10/10 would recommend Food : 5/5
Got the bone marrow tacos At first the bone marrow was extremely solid, but after I mentioned to the staff they were very quick to change to a new one, once I got the bone marrow in the tacos it was an amazing experience, extremely flavourful tacos Also thanks for the staff for helping me get another bone marrow that worked free of charge
Excellent. Food is very authentic. Service was wonderful. We will definitely be back.
Elote was really mushy, and tacos were super soggy.
Thankfully we had great company. While the food was fairly good, the service was as lackluster at best. We were not offered additional drinks past our first cocktail nor were we offered dessert. There was very little engagement from the wait staff. Because we were with a group, the gratuity was automatic, but they could have made more $$ with a small amount of effort and offering additional drinks and dessert.
Ophelia Kitchen offers a delightful dining experience with its vibrant atmosphere and excellent service. The menu is diverse, featuring delicious dishes that are both beautifully presented and flavorful. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. The only area for improvement would be the wait time during peak hours, but the quality of food makes it worth the wait. Overall, a great spot for a memorable dining experience in Vancouver
My son told me this is the best Mexican food hes ever had... and WOW ! ! ! . . .
I m a returning customer. It s great food, awesome margs and great music. Stays consistent and is always a reliable place to eat.
Upscale Mexican food, happy hour was excellent. Margaritas were genuinely top tier. Chorizo Queso and tacos were great, even if the corn tortillas fell apart almost immediately. Guac/steak combo was solid too. Service was slow but fine. Will be back.
The food , staff, and entire experience was amazing!!! The bone marrow tacos were perfect!!!
The service was really lovely at Ophelia, we had a great waiter that was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The food and drinks however were really quite disappointing. I purchased the Lingcod at $34 for the entree. The lingcod was laying on a large bed of salsa verde that was very bitter. When asked about it, it is supposedly supposed to be like that due to the ingredients. After a few days of pondering about it and coming to terms that I have had many salsa verdes before, if it was going to be that bitter, I think it should warrant a bit of a heads up as it overpowered everything else on the plate and left a strong and bitter aftertaste. I also ordered the Dragonfruit Margarita which had no other flavour incorporated aside from straight tequila. While it was beautiful and nicely presented, at $18 per cocktail the flavour of tequila mixed with a small bit of sugar water was not worth it. The atmosphere was decent and if it was paired correctly with great food I could see it being worth the return
Food
The atmosphere is good and the location is great. The service is very nice, but the food still has room for improvement. They seem to be aiming in the right direction but failing to score. The tostadas are great, but most of the other dishes need some work. I hope they improve soon.
I had high hopes for this place . I flew in from PR to celebrate my girlfriend s birthday, had reserved weeks before what a disappointment. Since the moment we walked in the hostess couldn t care less . I had written requests in open table app for her birthday and they just did not care . They forgot we were even there . Finally had water on the table 25 minutes later. No explanation of the menu , no warm welcome and food was alright . Don t waist your hard earn money and time on this place .
Taste, presentation and service were good.
Beautiful place, very tasty food and excellent service. Recommended 10 out of 10
Outstanding restaurant proudly serving Mexican cuisine; in order words, not just any old Mexican restaurant. The servers are very helpful, friendly, and enthusiastic about the food. The food was so good, it was memorable I mean the mains, not just the dessert. If you like octopus, you must try their signature dish!
The food, drinks, and service here are exceptional. Our server Andrii was so attentive and had great suggestions for cocktails without hesitation. In a time where service across Vancouver is often mediocre at best, I was super impressed by him. Highly recommend this place!
The tuna tostada and volcanes de arracherra are literally to die for. I would totally come back just to order two of each and leave happy. The bone marrow tacos were also really good. We also ordered the pollo en mole which was super filling and the enchilada which didn t wow us. A couple of negative things was that every other table got chips and salsa etc when they first sat down but me and my friends didn t? We also had zero cutlery at our table even after our mains arrived and our waiter didn t bring one of our desserts which I think was an honest mistake. So idk it was a very mixed experience.
Incredible food, great service! This place should be at or near the top of your list when in Vancouver.
Holy Mother of God how delicious this is...
We tried Happy hour and it was better than expected experience. Good dining and wines with reasonable price. Cheerful atmosphere with kind serving. Money well spent
Delicious food. Really beautiful decor.
My partner and I really enjoyed eating here. Would definitely come back. We found Ophelia on TikTok and wanted to try it because of the bone marrow tacos. The service was good, though our server was a sweet soft spoken man, so occasionally it was hard to understand what he was saying. He showcased the wine properly, by pouring it slightly, letting me smell and taste it first, then filled the glass. I was very pleased with that, as a lot of restaurants now just bring you the glass already poured. I got the Verdejo, which was spectacular. The only downside about our meal was when my partner recieved his bone marrow tacos, there was barely any marrow and was more just leftover oil on the bone, instead of the soft marrow that typically comes out. It was probably just a bone that didn t have as much as other ones. Hopefully when we return there will be more in the bone! The tacos were outstanding though, and well prepared. I got the trio tacos, and he the marrow tacos. I also recommend the ceviche starter, so fresh and decadent. We both really enjoyed the wonderful pops of flavours, and the presentation was nice. Overall, I would return. Thank you Ophelia!
Amazing food! Great service! Will return for the other items on the menu!
This place is amazing! Brunch is 10/10! Elotes must try!!! Food
Place is super cool
The food was incredible here. Would 100% order the Bone Marrow Taco again.
Stop whatever it is youre doing right now, and make a reservation here. This place is so good that we all left the restaurant furious with ourselves that this was our first visit. We ate here last night for my wifes birthday and it was the best choice we could have made. Everything was spot on: staff/service, atmosphere/decor, and the food was incredible. We all agreed that the octopus was the best we have ever had in our lives. All of the moles were impeccable. We brought our own wine and they decanted it and served it perfectly. One of Vancouvers best. Were making Ophelia a regular spot and you should too.
Oscar was my bartender, i have never seen someone so into their job as much as him. The way he makes drinks and talks to his customers is very top notch! Drinks were made to perfection and Oscars hospitality was on point! Thank you for your great service!
Love it great food and very nice service!
As an enthusiast of Mexican cuisine, I was eagerly anticipating my visit to Ophelia in downtown Vancouver, fueled by the rave reviews and buzz surrounding the establishment. However, my recent dining experience left much to be desired, evoking a sense of disappointment and disbelief in light of my high expectations. Lets start with the positives: the Tuna Tostada was a winner, offering a satisfying mix of flavors and textures that hit the spot. Plus, the drinks were good, adding a nice touch to the meal. The atmosphere was also inviting, contributing to a pleasant dining experience. Now, onto the main event the food. While the Pollo en Mole de la Casa sounded promising, the mole sauce didnt quite live up to its reputation. It lacked the depth and richness that make mole so special. The enchiladas were also a miss, lacking the authentic taste and flair I was hoping for. Despite these disappointments, the spicy chips and salsa provided a glimmer of hope, delivering a much-needed kick of flavor. Its just a shame that the rest of the meal couldnt follow suit. In the end, while Ophelia has its merits, particularly in terms of ambiance and drinks, it fell short in delivering the authentic Mexican flavors I was craving. Whether its a matter of culinary expertise or a difference in taste preferences, I cant help but feel a bit let down by the experience. Nonetheless, the staff were friendly, and the vibe was enjoyable, so theres certainly potential for improvement
Came here to celebrate my birthday! Drinks were good, and so was the food. Only issue was the steak in some of our dishes were very overcooked which made the meat kind of chewy. It wasn t like this the last time I was here, so maybe it was a one off time. Other than that, I really enjoyed Ophelia.
The food was amazing. Drinks were awesome. Loved it
This is a great go-to spot for casual business meals and date nights. They offer finger food that is packed with fresh ingredients and great flavor for pretty decent prices considering the quality. As you can see from photos of their tacos, their tacos are loaded with meat which makes them more filling than tacos from other similar spots. They have a good selection of alcohol too. Certainly worth a visit if you are interested in having good Mexican food in Vancouver!
it was ok
This was our second time at opehlias, it was absolutely delicious! The tacos de arrachrrra y bone marrow was SO good. Service was on point! Big thank you to my waitress Bethany, she was polite and has amazing service!
A great place to go for a date or to meetup with friends or coworkers. The food is delicious, especially the tacos, and the service is great! The drinks are also very creative and tasty!
One of the best restaurants I ve been to in Vancouver. The bone marrow tacos might be my favourite dish in the city. The octopus was also really good. Will definitely be visiting again!
Food is 10/10 Edit: I come all the time now. Old review: I won t raise this to 5 stars until they hire more people. I be been 3 times in 2 weeks and I am absolutely shocked how little I see a server or get interacted with ..
Good food. Tacos were nice.
OMG! This restaurant deserves Michelin stars and a perfect score! After dining there a couple of times (The white mole is to die for) I decided to spend spring break in Mexico city. I went to highly rated and recommended restaurants. The best mole is still at Ophelia. Food
great place to hang out with friends. enjoy the cocktails and appetizers.
Outstanding on all fronts! We loved the tuna and skirt steak appetisers, the chicken entree, and the pork tacos (all three variations). Service and atmosphere also great
Amazing food, amazing drinks, I definitely recommend this place, the place and the music is a vibe too! Next time will try pork belly , definitely recommend to try the chicken
Had a great time here celebrating with my friend! The food was amazing! Every dish we had was full of so much flavor! We got the prawn ceviche tostada to start, definitely a new fave! I got the enchiladas and my friend got the pork belly! So tender and delicious! We got the tres de leche cake for dessert and wow was it good! Will definitely be coming back!
Really good dining experience. Lots of balanced flavours . Food is sublime.
The food was amazing, their presentation is beautiful. Loved the pleasant atmosphere, the interior is beautiful and they also have patio sittings. Our hostess was very nice and got me a free desert as was my birthday. Prices are high, so would say it s like more of a special occasion kinda thing. But would love to visit again for sure.
The elote was a little bland and the bone marrow didnt have much marrow. Aside from that everything else was really good. The Octopus was particularly memorable, would definitely go back just for that.
The prawn tostada is excellent
This is the ultimate luxury Mexican restaurant. Not only the interior but also the menu and taste are luxurious. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is nice. If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant with a nice atmosphere, this is it. We ended the last Dine-Out of 2024 here on a grand note. I will visit again next time
The bone marrow tacos are incredible. Drinks were good, service is great but those tacos...oh man.
I was excited to eat here , as Id heard many excellent comments from different people. I will qualify that I am half Mexican, so I do have a strong understanding of mexico and its food.Over all the food was under whelming, my mole sauce was ok, however the chicken was cooked separately leaving it rather dry and flavorless. A prawn dish I had , tasted closer to an Asian dish. Lastly the trio of sauces where watery , lacked salt, flavour and unforgivably, heat. Over priced for what essentialy felt like something youd get at an all inclusive.
This restaurant was so underwhelming it was sad. I was excited to try this restaurant as Ive heard a lot of really good things and it was just not good. I ordered the prawn ceciche torta to start. It was underseasoned and had very little flavour. My main was the chicken enchiladas. They were layered - stacked like pancakes instead of rolled. Didnt add anything to the flavour or appeal. The chicken was dry even though it was drenched in sauce. And lastly the tres leches cake was dry! How?? A tres leches cake is supposed to be creamy and sweet. This one was dry and bland. Also, our server was bewildered. Kind of crept up on us and acted like she didnt really know if she should be there. Overall really lame and underwhelming experience.
Great food with great presentation in a nice atmosphere.
This place is just amazing, the food is really good, the drinks 10/10, this is one of my favorite restaurants here in Vancouver.
Really enjoyed our birthday dinner here! Especially the bone marrow tacos Would definitely come back!
Really amazing room, rich, cozy and inviting. Just an fantastic bar. Good drinks and excellent service. The food is good, well worth it but not exceptional. Great happy hour. Love this place.
Tried the dine out menu and everything was delicious. The portions were good and the ambience was great. The tres leches cake was really delicious!
I genuinely can only begin to describe how delicious this food is. I got the bone marrow tacos as well as the taco trio and each of them was the most delicious version of the taco Ive ever had. It was so rich and filling I was barely able to put a dent in my plates, I took so much home and I am excited for the leftovers. Service was solid, could have been slightly more attentive given how few people were there, but friendly and service was just fine. Seating is very comfortable, not too jam packed and definitely larger body friendly. Highly recommend this place, easily the best Mexican food Ive had in Vancouver.
Our experience at Ophelia s was incredible, amazing food like always and such good atmosphere!!! Shout out to our server Alec for the amazing service and for making our night that much wonderful!! Do yourself a favor and order the pork belly and the guayaba margarita! Will be recommending to everyone :)
Wow. This was a very disappointing experience. So much hype and so much waiting for the proper opportunity. Then big (and I mean big) disappointment. Ok. I get it .. it is a popular and busy restaurant but that they greet you with the two hour maximum stay is just plain bad taste. But ok.. it is a famous restaurant.. let s see: The place is busy and noisy and our reservation gave us a nice hidden corner.. so not great. Then the cocktails: we ordered the hibiscus margaritas which were tasteless to say the least. The shared dishes were the Mexican corn which was old and dry.. full of watered down mayo. Really bad. The guacamole was just plain and simple ordinary same as the bone marrow (which came with cold tortillas). The mains were also very very sad: the green enchiladas were very bland with not even a sparkle of great flavour. The tacos were average same as the super dry potatoes with the cod in green salsa. The dessert was even worst: in any third tier restaurant would they ever offered you a tres leches cake as dry as this one. Tasted lake a coffee shop lemon cake with whipped cream on top.. one thing for sure: it was not by any stretch a tres leches cake. The chocolate flan cake was mega average and honestly flavourless. We would never return to this place. Service is good though.. I suggest you better find one of the many Mexican offerings Vancouver has.. this one lost the mark. Never again.
I came here with a small group of friends and we all loved the food and the drinks, the only down side we had was two friends ordered the bone marrow and one very clearly had more bone marrow meat than the other. The staff happily changed out the dish for us though which was great. Other than that, it was such a splendid time. I got the octopus and we all had some of the chips and dip as appetizers altogether. The drinks were fresh and boozy, I highly recommend the octopus, the trio tacos and the Ling Cod!
Good mexican food. Feels like home.
-always consistently top notch flavours -lovely, polite, and knowledgeable staff -bone marrow (need I say more).. -MOLE = * YUM * -got room for dessert? If not, make some
The pork belly with mole verde was amazing! Highly recommend the tacos with arrachera and bone marrow. The chicharrón was a little disappointing but still okay. We also tried the tres leches but didn t love it.
I felt that I was a regular customer that was my first time I thought it would be expensive but it was very well priced and the quality was awesome
After having a great experience here a while back, I came back with my partner for my birthday on a Thursday night. The octopus was amazing but my partner ordered the fish tacos which did not taste right. Service was very slow and we weren t able to order a second drink since no one came by until well after I had finished eating. I really wanted to try the tres leche cake but after our meal, we were left sitting for a long time. When our server finally came by, we weren t offered desert so we had to go elsewhere for it. I wouldn t come here again for a special occasion.
Bone marrow tacos are a must! The octopus was great, but not as big as I initially thought it wouldve been-still very satisfied. I would recommend this place to my friends
The meal was excellent just a little small.
So many reasons why this is a brilliant location! For being a more luxury experience, the prices are very fair, the staff and managers are great, the food is a great quality but the DRINKS are what make this place stand out. Try the guyaba and habenero. One do the best cocktails I ve ever had! The place is very intentional, they play great music and the decor, lighting and colour scheme is well thought out. Awesome place
Really frustrated with our latest order from Ophelia. It took so long that two Uber drivers canceled on us! The avocado in the tortilla soup was just bad check out this photo. And they mixed up the broth with what seemed like sauce from the pollo en mole de la Casa. The chicken in that dish? Undercooked here s a photo. My daughter, whos a budding chef, suspects it was boiled, not pan-fried. Zero flavor on the skin. We know it was peak time, but this was disappointing. Well definitely try them again and report back, fingers crossed for that excellent experience we know they can deliver!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. What else can you ask for? Took my family to Ophelia on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised how everything we ordered from the ceviche to the steak was perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Mexican restaurant.
We arrived early for our reservation (3 of us waiting for 4 more to arrive) and were greeted warmly and seated. We then waited 20 minutes before asking someone if we could order a drink. Thinking they may have been waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, we excused this. However, the service only got worse from there. We had to flag down a person for every step of our meal. The server was not friendly, informative or helpful and seemed indifferent to serving our table. Perhaps because there is an automatic tip added to larger parties? Used dishes and glasses were not removed as the meal progressed and we asked for table clearance when we were eating our dessert as we still had a menu and dishes from our appetizers on the table. Things were very crowded. At one point, they served a dish on top of a menu. Unacceptable service anywhere and especially in an establishment this fine. We expected much more. Atmosphere gets a 3 star because though the decor was nice there was a table near us that was taking photos of the food using a high volume lights and cameras and it was not a great vibe. Perhaps if the restaurant had known they could have been seated in an area not in the center of the restaurant? Food was delicious.
Great restaurant and food is amazing
Came here with friends for dinner. Great food and services. The octopus is definitely a much have, highly recommend! We had the tres leches cake for dessert and it was delicious
Went there for a late-night bite with my girlfriend a couple of days ago. Ordered 2 drinks, 2 appies, 1 entrée and a dessert. All to share. We both spent the entire night on toilet and our stomachs haven t been the same. Extremely disappointed for a Michelin starred restaurant. We definitely won t be going back.
Order through delivery service. Took such a long time for the restaurant to make the food
Create atmosphere, great service and excellent food. Only note, the molletes were a little dry and not enough chorizo so I couldn t taste it properly. Enchiladas were amazing, mole extremely flavourful. Bone marrow was great and tres leches cake very refreshing and a beautiful end.
Great food, excellent cocktails.
Sending email for group reservation past 3days no one reply speechless
Had my birthday here with a large group of people and it was fantastic! Food was so good. Hard to even choose a favourite because it was all so good. Great portions too. Service was amazing and staff were so flexible and helpful. Great atmosphere too.
Called them before come here from Whiterock. Been told we can order dinner menu before 3. When we get here the server told us we can t and ask us decide to leave or not. Been here 3 times before. Won t come here again.
Good food and friendly attentive service!
Great food, great atmosphere, and the staff were all very kind and pleasant. We sat on the patio but we were warm and dry despite it being a cold and rainy night. They also provide blankets at every seat in case you get cold. The food was delicious and served very quickly. I ordered the tacos, my friends ordered the quesadillas and chicken. They were all amazing. Ill definitely be back to try and chicken and tomato rice next time. Even though the food was delicious it did feel a bit expensive compared to nearby restaurants of similar quality, but not outrageous.
Flawless and fun. Cant miss this one!
The octopus was really good: crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The bean sauce was actually sweet so it balances out the saltiness of the octopus. I also enjoyed the small side of cheese risotto, very cream and not overly cheesy. The steak tacos were also AMAZING, but it was a bit chewy (very flavourful though). Sadly I didnt get any dessert
Love the food here in Ophelia! Tuna tostada and corn crusted octopus are recommended!!! Atmosphere is great too Food : 5/5 |
Hands down THE most authentic and delicious Mexican food Ive ever had in Vancouver (coming from a ). Beautiful place, wonderful ambience, good prices as well. Very recommended.
Finally made it to Ophelia, I could type for days about the flavours and the service. All of it was fabulous. Dont wait as long as I did.
Great food and great people. This is fine dining level food at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is awesome. What really differentiates this place is the people that work here. The culture comes from the top. Very friendly and hospitable staff. Thank you!
We often go for happy hour and love their margarita s. They know how to make a proper Marg at all times. Food is great and the service is top notch and friendly.
Last time I came here we had a wonderful time here, great food, awesome service and truly unforgettable experience. However, my recent visit with my family there wasn t that much pleasant. The lady at the door doesn t have a smile and wasn t kind at all. Our waitress at the table was decent and well-spoken though. Even though the food was too salty and we ended up drinking tons of water after the meal, I gave the waitress very high tip. Overall, I wasn t satisfied about the service we got other than the waitress. Maybe they change their kitchen staff and the taste wasn t as good as previous. Hard to say if we would pay another visit in the future.
Good cocktails and excellent food!
Loved it! Great food, and just overall fantastic. Would definitely go again.
