Fanny Bay Oyster Bar & Shellfish Market is Vancouver's only tide to table restaurant and seafood retail supplied directly from our shellfish farms on Vancouver Island.
Delicious! Exceptionally fresh seafood at a reasonable price - and happy hour is a steal. Our server even went out of her way to help us get our order in before happy hour ended. We loved the various oysters, the tuna was spicy and fresh, and the truffle fries were fantastic! They've also got a tank with fresh oysters and shellfish you can buy to go. Will definitely be stopping by again.
Wonderful experience, not crowded. Happy hour oyster is perfect. Only CAD2. I like Fanny Bay and Olympics one. The staff is nice and helpful. The cocktail tasted good
Really good place to go...especially during happy hour. Everything was tasty and fresh. We had the fish tacos, mixed clam and mussels in a white wine sauce with grilled sourdough, truffle fries, fried sable fish collars, lobster roll, a dozen premium features oysters (fat bastards) and tuna tartare. The service was good and the other patrons were very talkative as well. Good social atmosphere. I will have to try the other menu items.
Had an amazing time eating more than a dozen oysters. Definitely recommend stopping by during happy hours. It was fun trying different kinds of oysters and tasting the difference. We didn't have to wait to be seated when we got there. Fast service, and fresh oysters. We even found a small pearl in one of these oysters!
This seafood restaurant absolutely deserves a 5! The food was incredible, featuring over 20 varieties of fresh oysters. Every dish we ordered was unbelievably delicious. The clam chowder had a slightly unusual flavor, but it was still very tasty, and I regretted not ordering a larger portion. The service was quick, and the prices were reasonable. We paid $130 for dinner for three, including drinks. Overall, a fantastic dining experience that I highly recommend!
Fanny Bay Oyster Bar is a seafood lover’s paradise! The freshness and quality of their oysters are top-notch, with a wide variety to choose from, all sourced locally. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and pairing suggestions. The atmosphere is relaxed yet lively, making it a perfect spot for both casual outings and special occasions. The rest of the menu is equally impressive, especially the chowder and crab cakes, which are packed with flavor. If you’re in Vancouver and love seafood, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
Fresh and delicious oysters paired with horseradish sauce. Highly recommend coming during happy hours, as the tuna tartar, lobster roll, mussels & clams, and truffle fries are delicious as well. Food came right away and there was very little wait time. The service was good but nothing special. Good spot for a quick bite or a light dinner!
Had early dinner here (6pm) with 2 others and ot was outstanding. Oysters were fresh and very very good, as were the tuna and the mussels. Pavlova dessert also very good. Our server was amazing and great at recommending what to get ( she is a big reason we ended up ordering a lot). Very highly recommended if you are in Vancouver.
Always delicious to enjoy a sunseeker.
Fresh n Tasty seafoods, Amazing people ! Seafoods Lovers Haven !
Super fresh, great quality raw bar. I popped in for happy hour, the oysters were lovely and nice wine selection. Definitely recommend if you are looking for fresh seafood in Vancouver.
We came here for dinner on a girls trip and it did not disappoint. The drinks, oysters, caviar, and seafood dishes we had were amazing
Happy as always
Happy hour !!! The local oysters are must-try . Also staff are so kind . Only thing can be better is the shooter could be more chilled. But It s still very refreshing!!! Food : 5/5
Great spot for fresh oysters! Less one star as we went in for a late night snack after reading on the website about the Night Tide menu but they dont provide that anymore.
The food was overall very delicious, but the clam chowder was overly thick, which I didn t quite enjoy.
Great food, not so good service
Oysters are amazing. Staff very attentive and knowledgeable. Great drinks
I did not enjoy my experience at this restaurant. Portions were very small. Nothing was outstanding. Prices were high for what we got. Lobster roll dry with little lobster. Scallops were overcooked and tough. CA$44 for a very poor meal.
The food and service were excellent. The fresh Geoduck sashimi was superb, made better as we had not seen it before. The oysters and oyster shots were fresh and tasty and the horse radish had a nice zing. Reimer was our hostess and she was fun and gave us great suggestions.
Good place for seafood, staff are great. The fettuccine, though, was a bit weird. It was black and had a black licorice taste to it, so I only ate the good stuff and left the pasta, everything else was delicious. Go on happy hour to save some cash but be early as they dont take reservations and the wait is long if you are late.
The absolute best oysters I have ever had. The Bartenders were awesome and the Lions Mane cocktail a hit! Will be back
This place did not disappoint. Fresh sea food the uni shooter was delicious I ll definitely come back.
Loved this place! Great vibe, amazing fish and chips, and the lobster poutine was so rich and delicious.
We had a wonderful dinner at Fanny Bay on Cambie last night. The seafood was fresh and well prepared, service was also extremely good. Highly recommend the fresh oysters I the half shell.
Great food. Much better than blowers and graffton. Happy hour oysters.
They have the freshest oysters and great selection of other seafood
Black snapper Gumbo was very hot! I could not eat this, and the level of spiciness was not mentioned in the menu. They don t have coffee, just drip coffe! If the restaurant mention in Michelin guide you should have real coffe!
I ve been coming here since 2018, and the oysters are always a delight. Although inflation and making it on the Michelin s guide has caused the prices of the oysters to get incrementally more expensive over the years but you still can t beat the wide array of selections they have at this spot! Everything is so fresh and delicious. They also recently renovated to accommodate for more people, as they are always packed whenever I visit. Would definitely recommend making a reservation at least 1-2 weeks in advance. Happy hour selections are more limited, but still a great deal for the price. My personal favourites are: Kusshi s 9/10 Fanny Bays 10/10 Kumamotos 8.5/10 You also can t go wrong with the umami bomb if you want something a little extra. They used to have fried oysters which I really loved but have since been on and off the menu. Overall dining experience 9/10!
They have a great variety of delicious oysters. Im sure youll find one that suits your taste palate.
We have dined here many times, always been exceptional! We were told the executive chef is working at another restaurant. Last night was probably our last time at one of our favorite restaurants, our group of six all agreed and feel the same. The menu has changed and not for the better. The tuna stack changed in size and ingredients, thumbs down. The calamari over deep fried and hard ..disappointing. The pork belly and scallops, the pork was over cooked. I wanted to order the only pasta dish on the menu and was told they were out of pasta! Who does not have enough pasta for a 7:00 seating on a Saturday night dinner in Vancouver! Two lobster gnocchi dishes were ordered and complaints followed, one was half eaten, this dish missed the mark on so many levels. The bouillabaisse for one is now for two .why not offer both? They have taken the Crème brûlée of the menu also, another mistake. Too many points lost for a once top notch restaurant and I truly regret posting this review as this was a hidden gem for us all. The service and atmosphere has not changed and is still great. Management/Ownership should seriously make some changes as the Michelin shine is fading .
Oysters and mussels were so good I would highly recommend
Awesome experience, amazing oysters, great service! Must see if you re in Vancouver
Brilliant oysters and wonderful seafood. The produce is clearly very fresh and the team provide excellent guidance on the differences between all of the different oyster types. I d highly recommend the Lobster Poutine!
While the food and oysters specifically are always great the service needs some serious improvements. The server was very short and didn t seems to care, like he was in a rush to get out of there. The way he slammed the dishes on the table took away any grace or elegance from the culinary items we were trying to enjoy. The octopus dish, which we unfortunately didn t find tasty due to being served cold, he took away practically untouched and didn t bother to inquire why, as one would expect in a Michelin recommended restaurant. I don t mind paying for the dish I ordered but the lack of care in this beloved joint was very disappointing. After I notified the server we were all done with our food he just slammed the bill on the table. I told him we would like to share the dessert and it was dropped off by the food runner before dirty plates/cutlery was cleared. No clean cutlery, no sharing plates. No server for the bill either. He disappeared so I had to flag down another girl who brought the bill and helped to settle. Food was great but service absolutely terrible.
As good as it gets in terms of raw Oysters. Truly the best. Variety and knowledge since they raise the oysters. The Olympias are not to be missed.
An excellent time! We enjoyed the heck out of happy hour and everything was excellent!
Amazing oysters and uni
Fabulous! Seacuterie, bouillabaisse, and shuckers dozen enough for 4 hungry people. Smoked old fashioned? Recommend without question Parking: Busy night for parking. Ended up in library parkade
Service was great. Friendly and made us feel welcome. Food was absolutely consistent and fresh. Clam chowder one of the best Ive ever had. Definitely returning on my next visit to Vancouver.
Quality oysters and condiments to go along with the lobster poutine was a bit small and disappointing. Happy hour oysters really worth it. The wine list looks good too
I always like to come here for raw oysters. There are more choices on the menu. Good eating place for seafood. Happy hour is very popular.
Raw Oysters the best rest average
Great atmosphere and oysters were yummy! I appreciated the service. They were very attentive. We got truffle fries which were your typical fries of the truffle variety. Tasted like truffle fries. Had a great time and will definitely be coming back!
Knocked down two stars for service. Front host guy and waitress said we couldnt have the normal seating (had us sit on bar stools), because they are for older folks and their policy (policy for older people seating!?!!). Guess what, everyone sitting there after was kids and regular young/middle age folks. We have asked for the regular seating as we were there for happy hour with our baby, guess they dont give a damn about babies, but 4 year olds and everyone else, no problem.
Freaking delicious as hell!!!! Great oysters!!!!
Enjoyed Happy Hour...clam chowder fish tacos and calamari were very good
Seriously unimpressed. This place is ridiculously overpriced. Their gumbo was FLAVOURLESS. Not just lacking spiciness. Literally lacking flavour. It was sooooo bland!!! I was really disappointed. Service was incredibly slow. It was a super busy Friday night, and they had a skeleton staff. I originally wasnt going to review this place at all, but Google prompted me to provide one.
The raw oysters are very fresh. The steam clams are ok The octopus are delicious Food : 5/5
Come here to eat during Happy Hour. There are two types of Featured premium oysters. The small ones on the left in the picture are more delicious, while the larger ones below are more fishy. The lobster burger was surprisingly refreshing and delicious, but the green onions took away the flavor a bit.
This place definitely was an experience. I one hundred percent recommend them.
Soo loud. It is just a step above a fast food place for atmosphere. The food was fine but the atmosphere was terrible. The staff was rushed and did their best considering. We didnt feel like we were the customers but just a source of revenue. Loud loud. Skip it.
Awsome absolutely great uni bomb A+++
Fresh and happy!
It happened to be happy hour when I went. The oysters are very fresh. I will go there again next time.
Just perfect!
Bad server, did not really introduce the order and charge us more than it use to be as a dozen
Poor customer service. Did not explain Did not explain the option I can choose or not properly.
Terrible service, theres a lot of miscommunication and the server didnt seem like she cares at all. She should take time at the table, explain the menu and giving us the dish info instead of just be there and taking order and asking for 18% on tips without proper service.
This is my go-to place when I am in Vancouver. Oysters are always fresh, and the selection is great. Atmosphere and service always top notch.
This is a place you got to try if you want to get the best oysters and seafood around DT. Fun fact is they supply their own oysters from their own farms!
The food was was really good but, didn t blow our minds. The lobster bisque was not hot. The oysters were great, love the vibe. Excellent service!
Lots of glowing reviews here so not sure why our dinner was so disappointing last night, maybe a bad night. The oysters were good and same with the scallops, no complaints there. However the crabonara and the special, which was a ling cod, were just....bland. absent of any flavour so that was disappointing which becomes very disappointing when the bill after all is said and done was almost 300$. Most places these days will ask if you are celebrating anything. we were, but never asked. My drink was empty for longer than it should have been and had to ask for another when table was being cleared of appies. Wouldnt go back unfortunately.
A word of warning to customers: unprofessional server and the worst management. I dined here on September 29th at 7pm, and the experience was an extremely disappointing one. I was served a napkin with a large, noticeable stain (bigger than a toonie) that looked like it was already used. When I pointed this out and asked for a new set of napkins and cutleries, the server brought a new napkin only and didn t apologize. Moreover, she only removed the dirty one after I asked her to. Her attitude felt dismissive. When I brought this up to the manager, he asked me to go to the front. Instead of addressing my concern, he was more focused on defending the server and putting it off as a misunderstanding, saying She is the sweetest girl I know and Im always going to take the side of my staff and attributing the issue to her ethnicity and language barrier. What is ironic is that I share the same ethnicity, and that should never be an excuse to ones aptitude or attitude - which made his response even more disheartening. While I remained calm, he raised his voice during the conversation, which was disrespectful. How a very simple request to replace the dirty napkin could be a misunderstanding, to put the blame on the customer, and not a mistake of the server, is beyond me. Unfortunately, this ruined what should have been a special occasion. I hope the owner takes this feedback seriously to improve their customer service.
Delicious dishes with many seafood offerings not available other places and fantastic service. Heading back for happy hour.
We ordered featured oysters, fish taco, lobster gnocchi and lobster poutine. Highly recommend the lobster poutine and the gnocchi though the gnocchi is a side dish so the amount is small. The fish taco is refreshing. Overall this is a restaurant that I will definitely come again!!
Great friendly service. Took the advice from my server and had a delicious variety of oysters & special seafood dishes. Tried the sablefish collars and uni sashimi, both were fantastic. Highly recommend Happy hour there as well.
Went there tonight. I had the oysters (fantastic) and chowder(quite nice) and scallops starter (overcooked). My wife had the lobster gnocchi and fish tacos (both nice). There was some confusion over our wine order. We ordered a chardonnay which was lovely (soft / buttery and flavoursome). We ordered a second and it wasn t the same colour, smell or taste. We interacted with the wine person but couldn t get what we originally ordered. We think the first order was wrong and so there was no way of matching it. They were pleasant about it but someone stuffed up.
Great place for oysters. The happy hour (2-6pm daily) has pretty good deals with $2 and $2.75 oysters. The truffle fries and mussels and clams are also pretty good. Service is good and there is a nice atmosphere. Overall nice spot!
Best oysters in Vancouver. good and friendly service Vegetarian options: Present
Freshest oysters possible in Vancouver. Absolute best
Always good oysters here. Reasonable wine prices. Staff are efficient and on top of things. A good solid place.
Stopped in for happy hour oysters. $2 and $2.75 each seemed like a great price. Employees were friendly and food was fresh. Absolutely delicious.
One of the few joints left in town that have a proper happy hour oyster price.
Went during happy hour and it was a good deal, but I accidentally ordered too much.
Great food. Great selection of fresh oysters. Had some great drinks there also. Leaving full and satisified
If you re a fan of fresh, West Coast seafood, Fanny Bay is the place to be, and their happy hour is unbeatable! From 2-6 pm, they offer an incredible selection of oysters, clams, and other delights at a fraction of the usual price. The oysters are fresh, briny, and perfectly shucked you can really taste the ocean with every bite
Not my first time, not my best time and not my last time here. It was all pretty good this last time I went but I have had a couple great meals here in the past. It s my go to for great raw oysters. Good selection. Fish tacos were a pretty generous portion for the price.
Staff was very dismissive with customers when their computer system went down. Had 15+ tables open and would not take paper orders or seat anyone waiting on their system to come back up. There was no greeter to explain anything to people with reservations. Disappointed
I recently visited this restaurant and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the food. The oysters and all the ingredients are incredibly fresh, making each dish a delight. The seafood, especially from the West Coast, like the mussels, oysters, and crabs, was outstanding. You can truly taste the freshness in every bite. The attention to detail in the preparation and presentation of the dishes is commendable, and the flavors are well-balanced. Overall, a great spot for seafood lovers!
Unbelievable. Only ordered a half crab , clam chowder and plate of mussels and clams. The chowder was out of this world. I ve never had anything Iike it. The staff was attentive and everyone actually looked like they enjoyed working there. If someone asks me for a hidden gem in vancouver this is now my answer. Fantastic on all counts.
My date took me out here for dinner last night. It was great :) oysters were delicious!! I recommend date or family nights even
I visited Fanny Bay Oyster Bar during Happy Hour, and while the food was generally good (the Fish & Chips were excellent), the service was disappointing from start to finish. A few of the mussels from the Mussel & Clam dish had a strong fishy smell, which I understand can happen due to seasonal or harvest conditions. However, the way the staff handled the situation was far from professional. When I mentioned the issue, the server at the bar simply took the dish and told me, The kitchen said it s the same as usual, and even if we make a new one, it will be the same. While I understand this explanation, it lacked any customer service care or attitude. Throughout the meal, it felt like the staff were just going through the motions. No one checked in on us, asked if everything was okay, or refilled our water unless we flagged someone down multiple times. Everyone behind the bar looked busy, but it seemed like they were more focused on avoiding customers than serving them. We felt rushed from the moment we sat down, with dishes being taken away quickly and the bill being brought without checking if we were finished. It genuinely felt like they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. I had heard good things about this restaurant, but with such a lack of basic service, I m not sure I would recommend it or return myself.
I have been looking forward to dine in here because I just always drop by here to buy shellfish. I was so disappointed with my experience today. I came here with my sister for my birthday celebration. I ordered a 20oz lager but then I got a 16oz so upon realizing, the server gave me a little cheeky. We also ordered mussels and clams with red coconut curry broth but white wine broth was brought to the table. We also ordered a dozen oysters for $40 but were charged per oyster. Other than that, food is great! I was just upset with this experience because I was really looking forward to it and I know that this is a Michelin recommended restaurant. Just disappointing.
We sat at the bar area where they had hooks for our stuff. The staff was friendly and the food was great.
We were here for my birthday, the atmosphere here is lovely, the place is clean. The servers were really nice, and the food so fresh - a bit small portions tho. Food
Amazing
Yanks give thanks, what a fantastic place! Great food, great service, lively atmosphere and creative coctails. We had a dozen mixed oysters, Shuckers Choice; the Seacuterie Board which was loaded with goodness and a couple of Old Fashioneds with smoked rye whiskey. Super!
Food is great service is great. It s just a bit too noisy for a chatting and relax Food
I dined at Fanny Bay tonight and ordered oysters. One of them had an unpleasant taste and odor, I would say stink flavor, which made me concerned about its freshness. After I informed the staff, they promptly provided me with two replacement oysters, However, the experience was still disappointing, as the initial oyster shouldn t have been served in the first place, given the potential health risks of consuming spoiled oysters. I looked at the reviews and noticed I am not the first one who had spolied oysters. I will not come back again. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and improves the quality control of their seafood to ensure a safer and more enjoyable dining experience
Oysters were fresh and delicious. I wasn t greatly impressed by the mains or wine selection.
We came here based on a friend s recommendation and we could not have picked a better place. Fanny Bay Oyster Bar is located just south of Queen Elizabeth theatre, in a quiet area of downtown core. The restaurant has both table and bar service. We decided to cancel our dinner reservation as we came earlier during happy hour. Fantastic food. The sablefish collars, OMG!! This was in August so mussels and oysters are in season. Easy on the bubbly drinks as we could have eaten way more had I not drank too much fizzy drinks. Parking: There are plenty of paid metre parking outside. We lucked out and found a spot right in front of the door. We just extended our parking for a few hours after dinner so we walked off to digest the feast we just had.
We started our visit with a virgin Caesar, served with a freshly shucked oyster, a pair of olives and a wedge of lemon. Our first taste was the tuna tartare. It consisted of fresh, firm yellow fin tuna, avocado with a maple-soy glaze served with wonton crisps. It was excellent. We then had a shrimp cocktail, with beautiful, large shrimp. The cocktail sauce was your run of the mill. On the platter was a dozen Shigoku oysters and a dozen Kusshi. The first being very creamy, the second nice and firm, a little bit sweeter. The freshly shaved horseradish was a nice touch on the tray. We had uni sashimi which was the best I ve had. Fresh, didn t dissolve when I put the spoon to it, but melted in my mouth. We also tried the cherry stone clams. First time trying raw clams, they were good.
Parking: It is all about the timing for parking in the area of the restaurant! Restaurant is Fabulous the parking is bit of a problem that being said the restaurant is worth going to despite the parking hiccup Food
Had to wait forever for water, service was very bad, got the Cajun Boil and needed water, also this dish did not even come with bread, paid extra for bread and it didnt even come with butter
Came for happy hour (2-6pm). Ordered oysters, stable fish collars, tuna tartare, lobster rolls, mussels and few more items. Would order the oysters and mussels again. Everything else was nothing to write home about. Stable fish collars were fried and a bit too oily. Tuna tartare lacked flavor. Lobster rolls were fine, just not amazing. Might be the style of the restaurant but don t expect 5 star service. You have to pour your own water. Extremely busy place with what appears to be not enough servers. Had to flag down our server few times.
Oysters here are amazing the location is great and the service was very good .
Super busy restaurant which is well worth it. I would recommend arriving early or getting a reservation because once we sat down we saw a huge queue forming. The waitress that served us was excellent and recommended us to try the lobster macaroni and gave a nice breakdown of the oysters they had that day. The atmosphere was lively as its very open concept where you can see the oysters being shucked. 10/10 would recommend!
Came here for the happy hour and had two dozen oysters. They were fresh but 1 out of every 3 had bits of shell in them, which is unfortunate for an oyster bar. Please train your staff to be more attentive when shucking the oysters.
Fun and great food particularly oysters. Very busy and popular !!
The servers were really nice and they had good service, the oysters were fresh and delicious. I would definitely come back
Fresh oysters, good enough food. Youd be pretty crazy not to order only oysters and drinks here.Great service from our waitress. Attentive and efficient. Cant say the same for one of the taller older white server though when we first sat down though. Walked straight past us while staring me down, not acknowledging us at all. Bit of a menace. Other than that though, highly recommend!
If you want to come here , you probably have to ready enjoy them 0 server and all waiters is poker face talked with you,I told waiters I don t seat high table , but she still arrange a high table for me , that reason is because I m one person , they re don t want arrange low table for me .and their oysters nothing special, happy hour s oyster price looks nice but pretty small actually. Only 1 kind oysters is good , other oysters is bad and little bit smelly.
Absolutely one of my favourite eating spots in Vancouver. Fantastic atmosphere, the best fresh shellfish in the city. Always friendly service and a good wine selection. Oh and let s not forget the price, great value whether it s happy hour or regular service. Love taking people here from out of town . Keep up the good work!
The food was fine, but the prices were too high for the quality. The service was not the best, even our neighbors told us more about the food than the staff that we asked. I would say its probably not worth the money.
Always a pleasure to eat here. Amazing oysters, good value and very friendly service!
Fanny Bay Oyster Bar is the first restaurant choose when we arrived at Vancouver. We ordered a lot of food here, all of them are so fresh and delicious. Fresh oysters plate is briny and succulent, these ocean-fresh bivalves burst with flavor. Served on ice with classic mignonette. Lobster bisque is so rich and velvety loaded with tender chunks of sweet lobster meat. Shrimp cocktail is also well will order at any restaurant to test the taste and freshness of the shrimps. We also rendered a pretty huge size of Crab , this 2.8 pounds crab perfectly steamed and pre-cracked, the crab meat is so sweet, flaky meat pairs wonderfully with drawn butter. Grilled oysters is so smoky char enhances the oysters natural brininess. Topped with garlic herb butter for added richness. Octopus linguine tossed with tender grilled octopus, cherry tomatoes, and a bright lemon-herb sauce with fatty clams. Everything is perfect and definitely a good start of our tip in Vancouver.
Very fresh oysters
We visited Fanny Bay for the first time based on friend recommendations and it did not disappoint! Incredibly tasty oyster selection with great seafood entrees! Although it was an expensive meal it was also very satisfying. The service was also great considering it was a packed house!
My go to Oyster Bar one of the few places I am willing to drive into downtown Vancouver for. Always incredibly fresh seafood
Very loud place.
Super noisy, we sit at the end, in a room. We didn t like. The food was very good. The fish tacos were too little.
The oysters are not SALT WATER oysters that you may except. It does not have that sea breeze flavour and acidity to wake you up . In general has 10% of the sea salt oysters. Not worth it at all. Save your bucks. Service is lower than Canadian average, all the time miscommunications even though speaking in English. Indifference, poor understanding and high prices for what it is and sizes.
It keeps getting better
A great local place for oysters! You cant beat their happy hour and service :)
Solid spot for your oyster fix. Biggest recommendation, follow the advice of the staff. East and west coast oysters were on offer, we had mostly west coast oysters even though our server recommended the east coast. They were so right. Forgot how seasonal oysters can be and the west coast oysters in September are a little milky and not as crisp as the lot east coast cousins.
Very fresh and very good variety seafood
Unreal food, unreal vibes, unreal service
Tried eating here at Happy Hour. Very unprofessional and told us If only you had been here 5 minutes before you could have gotten a table . They told me no reservations for Happy Hour and it was well before dinner time and yet the next 5 groups of people behind us all were given a seat to eat. It felt like they didn t want us eating there for some reason and left us with a bad impression.
Food was fine at best. My cocktail was undrinkable. The service was non existent. It s also the loudest restaurant I have ever been in.
Came all the way from Toronto and it was a wonderful experience. Busy night but attentive service, our server was so great explaining the menu and providing personal choices. Food was impeccable, fresh and just delicious. It was a real treat and I look forward to visiting again in the near future. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance!
Food was amazing, super fresh oysters and lots of options!
Just go. Oysters on the half shell - perfect. Had crab-o-nara with crab meat and trout roe and it was a revelation. Wife had scallops with grilled pork belly. Superb. Came on a recommendation from our son, we owe him one but you can have this recommendation for free
Delicious variety of oysters accompanied by fresh horseradish and served by friendly and attentive shuckers. Outstanding!
The happy hour oysters were so unpalatable, so fishy and bitter. The firm ones Ive tried were all terrible, but the sweet select ones are just okay. The attitude of the male service and manager is very bad. Friends who like grilled oysters should not go there. The kitchen is right next to them and they dont cook them alive. Thats ridiculous, arent they a restaurant? If I want to buy raw food, I might as well go to Fishermans Wharf. If you are alone they will force you to sit at the bar. I won t go there next time, it s expensive and uncomfortable.
Great variety and fresh oysters. The staff is cordial and attentive. Is on the pricey side but the quality is obvious, you can taste it. I 100% recommend it.
Lilly was the most patient and excellent server! We ordered more than we had intended to because of the amazing recommendations. This was the hi light of our meals. The Sea Star drink was a hit too!
Meals are available Very bad service
We had 12 happy hour oysters & 2 orders of mussels. Nam is the counter server. He shucks like a Ninja! Sweet, delicious, fresh bay to table oysters. Mussels were so creamy & the portion was generous. We went there for the oysters & the mussels were a bonus. Dont go anywhere else in the Vancouver area!!!
Great oyster collection! They also stock my fave rose whispering angel.
Great spot for fresh oysters! Splurged on the uni which was delicious, I d recommend trying daily options.
My friend and I were really looking forward to our dinner at Fanny Bay. I had read some previous reviews about the air conditioning not working and was hopeful the issue would be resolved by the time we arrived. Unfortunately, it was not. The service was wonderful, and the staff were very attentive and polite, despite the understandably hot and uncomfortable conditions. Though, We were also a little disappointed that there were no collars or Uni available when we ordered (not the staffs fault!). When we inquired about the air conditioning, we were informed that it is shared with the hotel next door, with the hotel receiving priority. This means that if the system gets overloaded, the restaurant is the first to lose access. For a restaurant that serves fresh seafood, this is a little concerning. I hope that the owners will take the concerns of the patrons seriously and address the lack of air conditioning, as it is affecting the level of service delivered. Fanny Bay is amazing and deserves that Michelin star, but they wont achieve it if the patrons and staff are uncomfortable and suffering.
Excellent range of oysters and other dishes. Staff very knowledgeable and engaging. We ordered 16 oysters (variety), caviar and accompaniments (pickles were incredible), tuna tartre and shrimp salad special and fish collars. Everything was excellent and at a very reasonable price (happy hour). Absolutely worth a visit.
All around a great place and excellent experience. The oysters were perfect. Good selection of smaller and bigger dishes and very good kids menue.
Fantastic Food... However, personally I would recommend it to more people if it had a better Relaxed Sit & Stay Atmosphere with more high end furnishings and comfortable seating... Although, with high rents in downtown Vancouver and other overhead factors they probably make better profits with turning the tables faster... Shame that makes it only 4 Star
We went to a happy hour and enjoyed delicious food including Lobster roll, Lobster poutine, oysters, and a whole steamed crab (not part of the happy hour menu).
Delicious food and fantastic service. The Kumamoto oyster in particular had the best flavor with a punch of umami. Highly recommend the sea cuterie smoked seafood platter (get the beet smoked salmon, there s nothing like it). Completed the meal with a delicate and unique earl grey brulee for dessert.
Dietary restrictions: GF Food
Amazing food! Stopped in for some oysters and mussels on our way to the airport, and they did not disappoint! Also enjoyed the tuna tartar and a rye old fashioned. Would 100% recommend.
We adore Taylor s so had to try this place while visiting. In a random building. They have a good happy hour menu every day for the early eaters. Parking: Rather surprised there was street parking on a weekend.
Its a good place to have fish and chips. We enjoyed the scallops at our first try but the second visit they were a bit chewy. Sable fish was a bit disappointment. Not a typical dish you would get in other fish restaurants. It was mostly its tail end and also received less piece amount than advertised on the menu. When we checked with our server, kitchen told her that they were out of it. It was a bit disappointing that kitchen were not upfront with us. Server took care off us when we brought this to her attention.
Great food and service, had 2 year old twins and the staff were very accommodating.
Cant begin to understand the rave reviews after our current experience. We attempted to come on another trip to Vancouver and couldnt get in. Made sure to get a reso this trip. Cant tell you how let down I was. From the lack of service, to the wait time for food, to the undercooked vegetables/potatoes and under seasoned seafood.. Never again. I buy Dungeness crab at Costco that is cooked better, and tastier, when I reheat it than the one I had tonight. Oysters were good, but all they had to do was take off the top shell. Also advised the wait time was due to the extra large crab I got and how long it took to cook. Ok. I asked for a steamed crab, those in the tank were 1/2 to 2/3 the size of mine, I was willing to pay whatever the cost (as it was market price and no estimate was offered, and fair enough), . Just not a good experience all around.
Came in for happy hour. Since I don t eat oysters, got the 2 fish tacos. The piece of fish in each taco is less than 3 long (tortilla was probably 5 ) and less than 1 in diameter. Which means, I really just got cabbage and sauce tacos. NOT worth $14.
The oysters were clean and very fresh. The cherry stones were large in size but weren t very fresh. The servers weren t rude, but they were not welcoming either. We were being ignored most of the time and service was very slow, although there aren t many customers on a weekday afternoon. Overall food quality was alright, but the dining experience was certainly disappointing. The server was very quick only when we ask for the bill and being friendly while we were paying and entering the tip amount though
Ordered oysters and the blackened snapper which was delicious!
Fresh, delicious seafood. Nice vibe. Good champagne by the glass. Highly recommend eating here. Make a reservation for sure.
Good atmosphere. Good for seafood lover. Everything fresh. But its not quite comfortable for old people like me because all seats are high chairs.
Happy hour oyster is great. It s more expensive than other HH oysters downtown but they are all fresh and clean and none of the oyster smell fishy or slimy like some other cheaper HH.
One of freshest oysters I have ever had. Very interesting and unique selection. Would love to be back again!
Oysters, collar, and seafood plate and ceasers. All was great.
We came for happy hour and the service was quick and efficient. Ordered a couple rounds of featured oysters and that came out quick, which is always a nice surprise! We also ordered a few happy hour dishes (clams, fries, salad, tacos) and they were all generally excellent, especially the lobster poutine (gooey cheese all the way to the last bite - that s hard to come by!) Our server was great. Super friendly and checked up on us even though the place was slammed. The host (or perhaps manager?) was not friendly at all so luckily he wasn t serving anyone. We had a baby with us and we all enjoyed our quick experience here.
Highly recommend the oysters from the fanny bay production area Every dish is very delicious The chocolate tart tastes very similar to Ferrero Rocher, because it is not sweet, and it is particularly delicious when paired with vanilla ice cream. The seafood in the seafood boil is very fresh and sweet Vegetarian options: Vegetarian meals available Dietary restrictions: Will ask about dietary restrictions Parking: There is a parking lot at the door
Extremely delicious dishes. A revelation!
Very meaty oysters Must try Pavlova and pasta I wanted to try poutine Food : 5/5
Yum yum yum yum great service great food. Clam chowder was delicious. Fresh oysters! The best! Will be dreaming of my next visit
The food at Fanny Bay Oyster Bar & Shellfish Market is truly exceptional everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. However, the service could use some improvement. While the staff was polite, the service was a bit slow, and it didn t quite match the high quality of the food. The atmosphere was decent, but it felt a little lacking compared to the dining experience. Overall, it s worth a visit for the food alone, but I hope they can enhance the service to match the great quality of their dishes.
I unfortunately did not have a good experience here. First of all, our food took over 30 minutes to arrive. The table next to us, who got sat after us, got their food first. And they had about the same number of people and similar types of entrees. Second, the crab-onara pasta I ordered was very small and expensive. $32 that I ate in less than 5 minutes, and Im a very petite person. And it was moderately warm and not well crafted in a way that would warrant such a small portion. Everyone at my table felt bad for how little food I had and gave me some of theirs. Third, we asked for plain hot water to drink because we were cold (since they dont have tea), and they were unable to make it because their hot water maker was broken. I dont understand why such a nice restaurant couldnt figure out an alternative means of boiling water for us. (Pot on a stove? Microwave?) The waitress was apologetic, but it was still very disappointing considering how much money we spent there.
Literally the worst service I ve had in YEARS. Don t waste your time here, go to Rodney s.
Very cool spot and a great seafood experience if you re staying in Vancouver. We sat right at the counter which was a fun experience as you get to watch the staff chuck oysters and prepared the various dishes. The oyster are the highlight. Fresh and tasty. We then enjoyed a unique seafood take on the traditional charcuterie board, they call it Seacuterie . Not everything on the board is bragging worthy. It was especially disappointing to find out that they serve canned mussels instead of fresh. However, we were super impressed with all of the pickled veggies. Really tasty and a great compliment to the rest of the protein. We also got the truffle fries which was served cold. So that was disappointing and takes the review from a 5 to a 4.
Been comming here for years, always a delight. Wonderful selection of oysters for both dine in and retail
Fannys oyster bar was amazing loved oysters thanks to the bartender for letting me know about the beer batter for the kalamari even though the taste was great and great recommendation for the sable fish this was a great first try will be back for the paella thanks also for the complementary oysters they were great will be back
If you want to try some Oysters this is the best place
Nice selection of fresh oysters. We had the cold Dungeness crabs, and it was the best weve had in Vancouver. Get the paella, squid ink pasta, both were delicious. Skip the clam chowder. Service was a bit slow, and host wasnt the friendliest, but Id definitely go back again for the food.
Great restaurant in downtown close to BC Place, avoiding the very busy area. Fresh oysters and delicious lobster poutine.
One of the best places for oyster happy hour in Vancouver.
Food and service were amazing. I sat at the bar and had a lovely time.
My favourite seafood restaurant in Vancouver. This place celebrates seafood, tanks of oysters and crabs await you. The service is accommodating and friendly, even though we arrived 10 minutes before closing, the restaurant was still bustling. I was only missing the Dungeness crab scotch egg that is no longer on the menu. This will always be on my list when I visit Vancouver.
Solo diner, went at happy hour opening, ordered 3 dozen oysters (2doz of the $2 sunseeker and 6&6 of the $2.75 smth and kusshy) and the lobster poutine. - The lobster poutine is fine, very cheesy with big chunks of lobster, but i think the money and appetite is better spent chowing down more oysters - The happy hour specials change by the day, but if you have sunseekers for the $2 special, just stick with that (I enjoyed them more than the $2.75 premium ones of the day). I m used to happy hour oysters being the wimpiest malpeques lacking in flavour, but these sunseekers were deep-cupped and creamy, such good value. I m from Toronto and sunseekers would normally be $4~$5 a pop, if they re on the menu at all. - Oysters were well shucked, only 1 had a small piece of shell amongst the 36 I slurped down - Service can be a bit slow as more parties fill up the sizeable venue (there s only 1 shucker I could see) - My bill with tax and tip was over $100, but I left full with my oyster cravings well sated.
Decent food and great service. Tried all of their local oysters - pretty decent! Also had their crab-onara: not my favorite and portion size was slightly small but fresh crab and nicely al dente pasta.
The place was a letdown. The atmosphere: The atmosphere felt unfriendly. For the first hour, there was nothing but rap music filling the restaurant, often with frequent swearing in some songs, The loud volume and songs felt uncomfortable to listen to. The song choice changed an hour later. The service: The staff did not provide cutlery before or when serving dishes. The waitress took away a dish holding cutlery but did not replace it. It was disappointing the waitress offered no guidance on the many dishes found on menu. The food: The dishes had great decor. This was the best part. The taste was ok for some dishes and not another. The lobster poutine was lacklustre and had little flavour to it. By the end of it, I sorely regretted not choosing a different restaurant.
Great value for fresh oysters. Warning, its a little bit hot here because there is no AC.
The sable collar here is outstanding . All the food is great but the collar is the best thing I have ever eaten
Great selection of oysters and seafood. On que service and drinks. Yes if you want local seafood this is the place. Food
Service was amazing!!! And the tuna tartare was incredible :)
The food was fresh and, amazing with a wonderful service by Lily who was serving us very helpful and knowledgeable getting us the best stuff. Will defo come back!
This is THE place for oysters and shellfish in Vancouver (so far ). Great selection of oysters, a varied fish and shellfish menu and decent prices. A pretty relaxed atmosphere with room for all. Food : 5/5
We came in from Calgary today and had our friend from Whistler meet us at Fanny Bay because I had heard such great things. Arrived and was greeted and seated right away during their happy hour. We sat for awhile before the server came by to say hi. When she arrived she shared the specials then said she would give us time to look at drinks - we were ready. We had been waiting for her. We ordered 18 of the happy hour oysters and then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally after 30 minutes a server walked past and I asked her if our oysters were coming and if I could get another drink because my drink had been empty for awhile. She told us our server was on a break but she would check. Turns out no one pressed send on our order. The manager came over and apologized and comped the oysters. The oysters were okay. Because there is no AC in the restaurant the oysters were almost warm. Unfortunately our server never came back to check on our oysters or to get me another drink that I would have appreciated in the heat of the restaurant. Normally I would be forgiving of the initial mistake but after you failed at service once you think you would get it right after. I had another glass of Prosecco down the street.
We came for happy hour on a Friday and ordered the lobster rolls, lobster poutine, premium oysters and regular oysters. The lobster poutine fries werent very crispy but there was quite a bit of lobster on there. The lobster rolls were pretty good. The bread is crispy on the outside. Good amount of lobster on the inside. Not overcooked. Not too much seasoning. The regular oysters and premium oysters were very different. I would recommend ordering both. I preferred the regular but my dinner date preferred the premium. It depends on your taste. One was creamier than the other. The service was okay. Not the fastest and most attentive but good enough. Overall the food was okay. Happy hour menu wasnt overly extensive but it did the trick. The price for what you get is also okay.
