Located in Vancouver's South Granville neighbourhood - close to downtown and Kitsilano. Farmer's Apprentice proudly supports BC's organic farmers, fishermen, and purveyors. The vegetable forward menu seeks to support sustainable food systems. We strive to source ethically raised poultry and livestock. We offer low intervention wines and local craft beers.
Had the tasting menu with a group of 5 - all of the dishes were great and unique. Service was excellent and extremely attentive.
We waited until our anniversary to try out this restaurant - it has looked so promising the last year we’ve been following it online. We wanted so badly to like this place, but sadly we found it quite disappointing. The atmosphere was a bit off - didn’t have the expected “buzz” and I couldn’t help but watch the kitchen staff from my seat, they seemed uninterested, not really talking to each other, it felt a bit odd. Servers were fantastic - that was the saving grace! The menu felt uninspired and lacking variety - our fault I suppose for not checking the current menu before going, but we literally could not find any mains we wished to order (there was so few options and the ones they did have were uninteresting to us.) There was a tasting menu, but at $125 each it wasn’t a menu we were excited about. We ordered a few drinks (they were fine), and a few appetizers - the homemade bread was bland and gummy/undercooked, it came with a flavoured butter that was good but not anywhere near enough to cover the slice. It also only came with 1 slice, cut in 1/2, which felt skimpy. The potato rosti was a single bite, and honestly tasted like a breakfast hash brown. Smoked olives were fine, nothing special and smoke flavour didn’t come through enough. Nothing was BAD, but we simply found everything so underwhelming, very small, lacking flavour/complexity, and overpriced considering those things. We decided after the appetizers to not order a meal, and we went elsewhere for our actual dinner. We weren’t interested in the options, and weren’t willing to risk the high cost considering we didn’t like the appetizers. Sadly for us, this didn’t live up to the hype and so much so that I’m unsure if we would be willing to give it another shot. Again, servers were lovely.
While we were unable to participate in the tasting menu due to my myriad of food allergies, they were very accommodating and let me know what dishes were able to be modified or that were safe for me to consume. We ordered the house sourdough with seaweed butter, celeriac tartare, chicories salad, and each had our own main. The celeriac tartare was definitely the surprise dish of the meal with crisps and truffle pecorino. We both really enjoyed it as it had slight sweet elements along with the savoury celeriac.
Delicious food! the oyster mushrooms with rice were amazing. The service was great, very polite and fun.
Very nice work done 👍🏻 We can tell the chefs have been put out so much heart into the dishes! Every one of them is a piece of art! Taste is good and just right! Most of the dishes are light and not heavy but we were full by the first main dish. The weather is hot so as the restaurant! They tried to open the back door to get the air flow but not very efficient! They don’t have any pop or juice for my children, but they have one mocktail for nonalcoholic drink! It’s an open kitchen condition, so you will expect to have some smoky moments from time to time. The waiter and waitress are very nice 👍🏻 They change our plates from different dishes, just wish they would change our cutleries too!
This is a very cozy and atmospheric little restaurant. The ambiance makes you feel right at home, and the service is exceptionally warm and friendly. The dishes are fresh and flavorful, making for an enjoyable dining experience. While the prices are somewhat on the higher side, the quality of the food justifies it. Among all the offerings, my favorite has to be the smoked olives, which are simply outstanding.
Wow wow wow! What a hidden gem💎 Strongly recommend the smoked olives, caviar, smoked cauliflower. Gnnochi was good but not the best! But the others were very unique and interesting taste. We were able to sit right away with reservation, but seemed like there are long waiting. strongly recommend to book in advance.
We ordered the family style menu for the table. I would say it’s sufficient for three people dinner. 7 to 8 different small portions including appetizers, main dishes, and desserts. Everything was so fresh and tasty. The fact that everything is local made it even more pleasant. Staff are super nice and friendly. I love this place ambiance and decorations.
The manager was plain rude. Walked in to see if possible to order take away. Guy saw us walk in and Just left us standing waiting. The kitchen staff had to come out to talk to us. Then said would have to wait the manager to see if they willing to let us order. We just left.
Loved this restaurant. Great food, great service.
What an amazing food tastes, forget what it is, just randomly pick 2 dishes per person and share. Vegetarian options: Yes
We found the food delish, especially the spiced sea bream, and the plum + mascarpone desert. All the dishes had a nice balance of flavor, and a refreshing variety of texture as well. The service however was fairly lackluster considering the price of the meal, and the portions also left something to be desired.
Amazing meal.
We had the tasting menu, and it was the most unique, unexpected, and delicious meal. The food and wine pairing were both incredible!
Probably one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. This restaurant claims to be a Michelin one star. Don t be deceived. The food comes in very arrogant small courses. The taste profile is confusing. Please do yourself a favour and give this one a pass.
Delicious farm to table style restaurant. Wonderful food amazing and knowledgeable staff. Causal and welcoming atmosphere
The server was rude. There were fruit flies everywhere. One of the fruit flies went into my girlfriend s wine and the server didn t help out at all. She told us to fish out the fruit flies from the drink. Worst service. They really need to clean the restaurant the ceilings have 2 inch layer of dust. Food was mediocre I can see why they haven t gotten the Michelin one star yet.
We just finished tennis in the area and stopped for a drink. The man hosting looked disgusted upon our arrival in semi athletic/casual dress and after asking for a pint, he told us they dont do walk ins, while the place had about 30 empty seats. Youre not that type of restaurant pal. You lost several customers after that display.
Awesome food!!! It s a true experience
I was very disappointed with the food. We tried the tasting menu and I found only a couple of the dishes to be good, most of them were rather bland and nothing special while some were not to my taste at all. Every dish had a very acidic tone, which sometimes complemented the flavours, but more often than not it was intrusive and unpleasant. I was not happy with the wine pairing either. Some of the wines were interesting but none of them will be my favourite and I didnt find them to complement the dishes well. The portions were also extremely small, all courses combined were about half the amount of a normal main course in a restaurant. With gratuity I spent $250 and I left very hungry and dissatisfied.
Wonderful meal. Ask for the chili sauce - it s homemade and fabulous! It goes beautifully with their dishes.
This restaurant have menus that change all the time, dining here feels like rolling the dice. When I decided to visit Farmer s Apprentice, I rolled a bad dice and got a subpar meal. The atmosphere was makeshift and service was so-so. The Yellow kingfish was decent, and was the only dish that had balance. The caviar sando and mushroom rice were good but quite salty. They also went out of beef and served an unimpressive piece of pork shoulder - a rather cheap cut of meat - as a substitute. I hope their next menu rotation will be better.
Just go. With an open mind. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was stellar. The wines were so intriguing and paired perfectly. We also had a cocktail before dinner. It came out in the cute fever tree bottle. I did the G&T and he had the daily one. I heard about how amazing the cocktail was all night. To be fair, there wasn t anything we did love. Thank you, team. It was truly an experience of a life time. Dietary restrictions: We had the tasting menu and I m a pescatarian. They made awesome accommodations. My date actually liked the mushroom dish they prepared for me over the chicken.
We had a fantastic experience, the flavors, the service, the attention to detail, and the ambiance. small and quaint. very intimate. I would definitely go back
Amazing place with great vibes.

With its commitment to sustainability, impeccable service, and mouthwatering dishes, its an establishment that will leave you with lasting memories and a desire to return again and again..
Great food amazing service! Cute little spot!
Farmers Apprentice Restaurant is an extraordinary establishment that offers a culinary experience like no other. The menu, curated with a dedication to using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, brings out the best of farm-to-table dining. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, creating the ideal setting to enjoy the carefully crafted dishes. The staffs nowledge and passion for the offerings further enhance the overall experience. This restaurant truly stands out as a destination for those seeking exceptional cuisine in a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
a deliciously wonderful and unique dining experience.
Good food. Made me stink the whole night. Would repeat. 10/10. Remember to keep the door open so you don t stink your partner.
This place is so special! Every dish we ordered had so much thought and creativity put into it, they really nailed it all around.
very good, regional
Homey atmosphere and a weekly cycling menu, amazing stuff at a reasonable price. Long established restaurant.
Ok - I found this spot on the Michlin guide app. and decided I had to pop in. We didn t have a lot of time but I was hoping we might get a spot for a dish or two to try. When I explained to the staff- she sat us right away and brought out wine and two of her favorite selections to try. The roasted cabbage and the endive salad. WOW! We were so blown away. Grateful to this amazing chef and staff for making a quick bite memorable. I ll be back for sure!!
This is a fun spot with an ever changing menu. Dive into something local and different. Meals are great to share and exceptional explanations of what you are about to consume. Hats off to the cocktail list with glass shapes.
Food was amazing! What a hidden Gem!
The food is out of this world, really amazing!!
Many others have shared their wonderful experiences, and mine was just as lovely as theirs (tasting menu). The daily soda was perfection (pineapple, chrysanthemum) - I know, all this delicious food and the first thing I m mentioning is a drink?! As a non-alcoholic (and sugary) drink connoisseur, I just felt heard. The dessert? God dang, I could ve ordered another on the side. This might be the first time in my life that I m thinking about veggies after dinner - and am looking forward to what spring/summer brings! Thank you for the delicious meal!
Incredible experience. Truly special. Every dish was a surprise and truly delicious.
The family style menu was perfect for a date night for me and my wife. Each of the six (or seven) courses were unique and delicious, full of tastes that got our taste buds woken and conversation flowing. Service was very attentive and a surprisingly nice cocktail list too! With all of the restaurants in the city to choose from, this is one that we will return to again and again.
I had a quite unpleasant experience at this restaurant with my friends. We ordered the family style tasting menu between three of us. The food taste mediocre and are mostly small portion vegetable dishes. When we questioned on the fifth course if this is a vegetarian tasting menu, because all the dishes are vegetables, the server was very rude and gave us a horrible attitude. She responded there are some fish eggs in one of the dish so clearly is not vegetarian lol. All dishes came in one plate, we kindly asked if it can be split in three portions cuz it s quite difficult and awkward to separate between three people and the server rejected with an attitude. The whole time the server had a very mean and passive-aggressive attitude towards us, when we thanked her after she bringing the dish multiple times, she did not respond or even look at us. The food is mostly vegetables dishes with mediocre taste which certainly does not match the price or even close to Michelin level. Don t waste your money on the food or service. We will not come back again.
Lovely restaurant with incredible food!
Great spot for dinner and drinks. Lovely atmosphere. Unique flavours and pairings.
Ruined our Valentines day. They wanted us to sit outside on their patio in 5 degree windy weather to eat. I knew it was a patio booking, but I expected it to be a heated or semi-enclosed area. They didnt even have their heater on when we arrived! Table was not set, not even a tablecloth. They didnt bother to enclose their patio at all. There were no lights or candles close to the tables. Their hostess was condescending and rude to us. If they knew we were arriving at our reserved time, why didnt they heat up the table and area before we got there? My girlfriend left crying. Absolutely BRUTAL.
Always delicious
Great burgers! Will come back for those.
Great little place. Food was amazing, small but good selection of wine and very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Theres not much to say about The Farmers Apprentice. These people know food. Perfectly balanced flavors, wonderfully cozy atmosphere, and a non pretentious approach to finer dining. Local seasonal ingredients and lovely wine. Our service was top notch and friendly. Blends laid back and serious perfectly. Love this joint. Eat here if you can. Come with an open mind and empty stomach. I highly reccomend the tasting menu meal.
Wonderful experience! Food was phenomenal, service was outstanding and they were very accommodating to my dietary restriction! Will return for future celebrations!
Many small portions of unique and different flavors are incredibly delicious. Pricey but worth it if you want something new, you never try before. Excellent service and super friendly staff.
Some great vegetarian options!
We loved the family tasting menu and cocktails we had. Super yummy and fresh. We snagged a spot on the patio which was very special.
I had a delightful dining experience at Farmers Apprentice Restaurant! The ambiance was charming, and the service was impeccable. The dishes were exquisitely prepared with fresh, local ingredients, making each bite a true delight. While the prices were a bit on the higher side, the quality and creativity of the food made it worthwhile. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a memorable culinary journey!
I have been fortunate enough to come here twice now, and the quality of the food and service has blown me away each time. For drinks, I recommend that at least one person in your party get the daily soda cocktail it is always so creative and absolutely delicious. This time, we got the country bread, seasonal pickles, charred snap peas with lemon labneh, tomatoes and peaches, roasted cabbage, and nixtamalized corn gnocchi for dinner, and the tocino de cielo and cherries with cherry pit ice cream for dessert. We didnt get the fish or lamb this time, because a member of our party was a vegetarian, but the first time I went we did get some non-veg items as well and they were delicious. This time, my absolute favorite was the nixtamalized corn gnocchi so comforting! I also absolutely loved the charred snap peas and roasted cabbage, and the cherries and cherry pit ice cream was a huge hit. Everything they make here is so creative and special, and the entire staff in the restaurant is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Incredible experience every time! Vegetarian options: Their menus always include a variety of vegetarian options, we came with a vegetarian and they absolutely loved it, we were able to order entirely vegetarian for the table and did not feel like we were missing a thing.
Love the idea and the ambience, but the food wasnt amazing. It was good, but pricier than youd expect for that level of goodness. The mocktail was kind of bland, although it got better towards the bottom of the glass.
Creative menu with very well executed dishes and knowledgeable service. Would absolute come again next time I m in town!
The dishes and service highly surpassed our expectations. Will definitely be back soon. True farm to table with a perfectly intimate feel.
A wonderful birthday lunch and culinary experience! We came for the Basta BBQ and tried a variety of starters and mains and were not disappointed. Staff were very warm and friendly and the seating environment was perfect for us.
During my recent visit to this restaurant, I had the pleasure of enjoying its charming pet-friendly terrace. The service was impeccable and genuinely delightful. However, regarding the tasting menu, even though the dishes were meticulously crafted from high-quality local ingredients, I had hoped, given the prestigious Michelin recommendation, for an explosion of flavors that didnt quite meet my expectations. Furthermore, the price of the family-style menu is somewhat high compared to the culinary experience I encountered. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but perhaps not quite in line with the expected level of quality.
I am shocked this place does not have a 5 star rating. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. The best food Ive ever had in my life, I was not ready for it. My girlfriend and I went with the family dinner plate (chefs choice) which they also catered to my partners dietary restrictions. All of the dishes were very sophisticated and well put together. The server said they were just awarded a Michelin star which went without saying based on their delivery. 10 out of 10, make sure you get a reservation.
We tried the family style tasting menu and we were delighted by each course! Our server was friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our evening. Nice quiet spot with a quiet ambiance that feels very intimate. Perfect for a lovely night out!
This restaurant was Michelin Recommended, which definitely caught my eye, and unfortunately did not meet my expectations. Note: I tried single items from the menu selected by myself. And did not try the course meal. Food Taste: The main concern was the food taste, which was not bad, however it always felt like something was either missing or just not mixing well together. Resulting in a strange flavor combination which was far from exceptional . The most important aspect for Michelin recognized restaurants for me is trust in that every dish you would pick from the menu will be amazing at least. However in this case I would double check with the waiter to see if it would 100% fit your taste before ordering. Food Pricing/Expectations Ratio: This did not really affect the rating that I gave, but was the main reason this review exists. You would think that to have a filling portion for 40$+ per main dish is expected in a framer s style restaurant, but you would be in for a one and a half appetizer at most. Again would have no complaints if the taste was exceptional. Extra minus points for charging for bread. Please just include it in the price of the main course, looks cheap to see a bread charge sold per piece. Presentation: The presentation of the dishes that I tried was great, and fit the concept of the restaurant perfectly! Wine/Drink pairing: great variety of drinks in the menu to choose from, including cocktails, wine, and other alcohol options like sake. Service (5/5): was pretty good and friendly. We always had our water refilled and plates changed. All our questions were answered, and suggestions as we needed them were made! While serving, the dish was presented highlighting all the components and flavors. Atmosphere (5/5): nice and quiet, with a little bit of music playing in the background. Beautiful interior design which nicely blends in with the overall concept of the restaurant. Vegetarian options: Great variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options to choose from.
It was extremely hot inside the restaurant, we went end of summer, no ac, and you could tell everyone was feeling uncomfortable, the food was underwhelming, the service was strange and our server had bad breath which multiple people from my table commented on when she wasnt near. Im so disappointed because i had this spot in my want to go list for quite a long time now. They also advertised a special cocktail of the night, but then just came out with a bottle of some premixed drink that we poured into a glass... we felt misled and we left hungry... :(
I love all the dishes I got. Its great for friend gatherings, dates, etc. They deserve a five-star review!
Why does this place not have a michelin star?
Portion was too small for some dishes which were $30. Had to go another place for sandwich after
Please try smoked olives and egg yolks &potato sando. Best dishes in Vancouver. They change the menu seasonally Don t miss them Recommended dishes Egg Yolk & Potato Rosti Sando
Best tasting menu I have had in years, food was creative and delicious. A lot of different flavours.
Nice little find. Excellent happy hour. The G&Ts came premade and the food was good and different.
Despite years of rave reviews, Farmer s Apprentice failed to live up to its reputation during our visit last night. My partner and I have been doing monthly fine dining dinner dates for a decade and for the first time, we left feeling more than a little underwhelmed. The restaurant is small and very cozy; service was warm and friendly and our server was attentive to little details like waiting to bring cocktails to the table until my partner was back from the restroom, and keeping a watchful ear to music volume when the restaurant was relatively empty. The cocktail list leaned toward classics but featured a collaboration with the soda shop next door which was cute (and the featured drink was tasty!). The wine list was fantastic, especially as a lover of interesting and skin contact varieties. That said, the food predominantly fell flat. Bread is listed on the menu for $3, which turned out to be $3 *per piece* for an average slice of sourdough with a small serving of lardo to share. While we are happy with adventurous flavour combinations, we felt the asparagus and cucumber starter and the apple and rhubarb kimchi were poorly seasoned and generally boring. Plate choices for appetizers that were served in thin sauces (soup?? sauce??) were confusing and seemed to prioritize aesthetic over taste and cohesion. Much of the menu was vegetarian but lacked carbohydrate and protein components, which culminated to a meal that felt largely unsatisfying by the end. The corn gnocchi was the star of the show - but being served a heartbreakingly overcooked halibut (for $42!) right after dulled the experience entirely. Pairing such a delicate (and expensive!) fish with a mostly generic tasting and heavy curry sauce was disappointing to say the least. To add insult to injury, dessert was a few tiny pieces of rhubarb (once again served on a flat plate despite having sauce/soup as a highlight) with a dollop of mascarpone, again overpriced and entirely underwhelming. With more than a little room to spare we walked to Cheesecake Etc around the corner when all was said and done. Perhaps the challenges of local and seasonal this year create a prison of Farmers Apprentice s own design - regardless, we won t likely be back any time soon.
Food is great, wine is great, Marissa is the MVP - she gives you the best descriptions of food and wine. Would definitely recommend
Amazing overall. Food was unique and delicious without being pretentious. Servers really cared about what they were serving. Go!
Why does this have 4.3 stars? It should have 5. Update: I m still mad, how does this still only have 4.4 stars? It should have 10. Truly one of the best dining experiences in Vancouver.
Dropped in for quick drink with a friend without reservation around 6pm. Understood that we had limited time at table before evening reso s arrived and appreciated this fact .. Under watchful eye of waiter, had food and drink unceremoniously delivered with hardly the time or effort made to make us feel like anything more than an inconvenience. Food was nice, drinks were fine, but behaviour of staff was poor! Left restaurant shortly before our time was up with many tables sitting idle . Why the rush, why the attitude and why the incivility this place exemplifies No Fun Vancouver perfectly. Do better please and stop taking yourself so seriously, Life is short and opportunities to do nice are always worth an effort!
I experienced the worst service I have ever had dining at Farmers Apprentice. Our waitress clearly did not care whether we were enjoying ourselves at all. Spoiler alert - we didnt. For starters, when I asked which of the entrees was more popular (between the two most expensive entrees on the menu), our waitress replied with, Im not going to tell you which is more popular, and Im not going to tell you which is better. It depends on what youre feeling. That useless reply certainly didnt do much to help me make up my mind. To make it even worse, she also failed to mention that the most expensive items on the menu were not much larger than a small appetizer at most restaurants. I will admit, the food was presented well, however in no way would I classify this experience as fine dining. I certainly would not have expected to spend what I did coming here and still end up going to Triple Os afterwards for a burger because I wasnt anywhere close to being full. On top of all that, we were literally never asked how our meal was. Not once. Not even while we were paying! When it came time to pay, our server just dropped off the machine, took a couple steps back, and stared at the ceiling until we were finished. The only redeeming factor was that my friend really liked her gnocchi. The duck I had was average. All in all, a horrendous experience. Avoid this place!
Farmers apprentice at its current state is a try-hard rustic/hipster place with a lot of fluff and not much substance. I had high hopes for this place but was overall left very dissatisfied. The service was less than stellar. However my biggest problem was with the food. The food is frustrating... Because there are glimmers of great flavours. However, always the food is paired incorrectly. For example the Chaat had amazing spices and chutney however it did not pair well at all with the roasted rice puffs the after-taste of the burnt rice puffs ruined the dish. The food here feels more focused towards presentation then actual flavours. The vibe and the aura of the restaurant is great but the food leaves you wanting more. Its sad because there is a lot of potential here but its wasted on fluff. I would really hope the kitchen and chef can redifine the menu again and really pair the ingredients better for overall satisfied experience.
Grossly inattentive service for this type of establishment, lack of care for guest experience. And food was just meh. Wont return or recommend.
The picture can tell a lot. I took this picture at 7:39pm dinner time. There were only two tables including mine. I had really bad experience in this used to be famous restaurant. The food was mediocre. The server came checked on our table about the food, we told them the food was too sour to our preference he was so ignorant and just replied with oh and left. I guess they are too famous to take care of their customers.
Having dined in many a restaurant around the world, I must say this establishment is up there. The basic table setting to the open kitchen...magic!!! The staff, fantastic....the food was sublime.... truly an experience that can not go unmissable....thank you from a very happy English man and his family...well done!!!!
Opted for the family style menu for six people. Everything was delicious. The fish was some of the best I ve had. We were able to experience ingredients that we ve never seen or heard of before as well. I m rarely impressed by restaurants and think this place is severely underrated as a few other reviewers mentioned.
Nice little spot but the server seriously needs an attitude adjustment. When you re selling a sausage on a little bit of rice for $42 at least pretend to care under your mask. Sat without a drink for a while multiple times. The bread was nice and the other server friendly but simply not worth it. Very disappointed.
If you dont love this place, you arent a foodie.
Would give it a zero if I could. Service from start to finish was sleepy. Food was ok and overpriced. overpriced menu Come here if you want attitude. But the water was good
Highly recommended. Genuinely some of the best food ive had in the city. Interesting and original dishes, great service and excellent wine list. A hidden gem.
We planned on going to grapes and soda but ended up waiting for a table at Farmers apprentice and were very glad we did. indoors was full but the server was super nice and prepared a table outside for us + turned the heater on (this was late October). While the menu is small it has great quality items and we really enjoyed everything we shared and the cocktails were also good (we wished the Martinis had been more classic and dirty but they were still good). It is important to highlight that the portions are quite small but you can taste the high quality of the food. We had a good server who was engaging throughout the dinner, the service was a bit slow but thats expected as it was a busy Friday night and they were packed inside.
Very cute place but the food is overpriced in my opinion. I understand it all comes from local places/farmers but I was hungry after and yet spent over 80$ (including 2 drinks). Overall not great value.
Overpriced prix fixe menu. $85 pp, 6 courses and all very underwhelming. Left starving. Absolutely boring fare. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging this much.
Walking into a very earthy and calm environment, you are immediately treated as a guest. We were attended to well and given a full instruction on the very eclectic wine list. The food was delicious and healthy for you, which is a real bonus after the increase in my waistline during Dec 2020. Small restaurant but well served and very comfortable. Enjoyed it.
Cool room. We basically ate the whole menu. We let your the owner order everything for us and we loved everything that came out. The best meal Ive had in the last 6 months. Ill be back often.
Amazing staff and great menu!
Everything here is delicious. Like, beyond delicious. The staff is super friendly, too. The wine they have is fantastic. Can t wait to go back again!
Excellent local sustainable creative dishes and wonderful service. Also try Grapes and Soda next door.
highlight of the meal was when the chef walked next to our patio table to snip some fresh herbs. crispy sugar peas and sourdough was delicious, and we also loved the daily cocktail!
The place was cool. My friends loved their food. I got 21 day aged pork belly. Not my favorite as it made me feel a bit weird after. The taste is good but maybe it was my fault to order it as it tasted really fatty and oily to me. I know it is pork belly so I should have expected it. Still, when I walked in the restaurant, the smell of oil was very pronounced and not my jam. Maybe others would like it. The dish cost 40$. Personally I don t think it should have cost that much as it wasn t that good. I ve paid 40$ for dishes that were definitely more mind blowing. This wasn t blowing my mind. Still, the vegetables that came with the dish were good. I tried my friends food as well and it was good. The menu for this place is on the smaller side, there were gluten free and vegetarian options but there s no adjustments as well as no options for desserts. As cool as it is, if there are people who couldn t find what they want to eat, they ll just be left hanging. I m sure in other times with different curated menu, it would have been good for others who come here. But maybe check the menu before you go to make sure you like the options they have. In conclusion, I m not sure I ll come back here. It s a cool idea to partner with bc farms and bring farm to table cuisine. I might have expected too much and left disappointed. The place itself is very cool. Just wish the menu is a bit bigger, more fresh dishes to choose from and flexibility in adjusting them to meet the need of picky eaters like me. Thanks for the food.
One of the best dining experiences my wife and I have had. Incredible from start to finish
Quite a good experience. Good food and drinks. I really enjoyed their pork belly which I thought was wonderfully flavoured and cooked just right.
Always impressed by their new dishes!
Fresh, well balanced and harmonious culinary experience. It was an absolute treat. Strongly recommended.
Delicious. Absolutely delicious. Every plate was delightful and fresh. Well definitely be coming back again.
Came here for happy hour. They have happy hour from 3:30 to 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. We had the bottled daily cocktail which was delicious. It had calamansi and grapefruit soda. Would definitely recommend it if you want something light and refreshing. For snacks we had the blistered padrons and cauliflower. The blistered padrons went really well with the horseradish aoili. They were very smokey and meaty. Strangely addicting. The crunch of the almonds paired really well with everything and balanced out the bitterness of the padrons. The roasted cauliflower with the walnut muhammara was equally as delicious. They cooked the cauliflower so that it made it somewhat meaty and gave it some bite. Both snacks were great and paired well with the drinks. The service was also great. We sat for around 1.5 hours and werent rushed out or anything as the dinner reservations started to come in. Would definitely recommend them for food and drinks. The place isnt very big so make reservations or come early
This place has a great home feel with a menu that is driven by its fresh seasonal ingredients!
Another great spot for sharing food. I love the atmosphere! It has a farmhouse hipster vibe. They have house-crafted bottled cocktails. I had the Empress gin and tonic. We shared most of the items on the menu. There was a heavy vegetarian influence. The menu is small. We tried everything I was intrigued by and find no reason to go back. So, hopefully they change the menu regularly or you may only need to go once for the experience.
Delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. We loved the story behind the food and their focus on sustainability.
Small but tasty brunch menu. As the name might indicate local ingredients and many items offer a home made or local touch.
We decided to let the chef decide what to bring on the table tonight. And what a surprise! Every single dishes taste so good. My favourite one was the salmon. It s so crispy outside and juicy inside. Oh love the salad too!
I tried their takeout during and it was great. I got their Red Fife bread with gochujang butter (which was awesome...sweet savoury spicy), the pork rice bowl and egg sandwich. All the little details bring the food to life. A little costly, but I m happy to support local business during this time.
This place is legit. The set menu was the bomb. Wine did its job. There were only a handful of people there. Id go again just to eat the rest of the menu.
Yes! really liked this place. Great food.
Kitsilano Brunch Restaurants
The dishes are delicious and the service is great but the prices are far too high given the very small quantity of food. We paid 150$ including tip for a small piece of salmon (maybe 100g), 1 zucchini, maybe 100g of snap peas, 1 dessert and 4 drinks. Dont go there if youre starving ;)
Kitchen is always on point with changing seasonal dishes!
Delicious food, excellent wine, wonderful service. The chefs table was diverse, anchored in local and regional offerings, and kept us tantalized to the last dish.
This is one of our favorite restaurants ever!! Definitely plan on going back soon
Delicious food, great and cozy decor and friendly staff. What else do you need ?
Love this place. Great cocktails, well thought out food. Beautiful space and nice staff.
We did the family dining experience and the food was delicious. Per person it is a bit pricey but we were completely full. I would say the only disappointing thing was the wine selection. A few things with that. If you are going to charge $15 for a glass it should be bigger than a 4 or 5oz pour. Also, given the price the selection was not very good or at least what I like. Missing a crisp sauvionon blanc, a lovely southern b.c. Meritage or a hearty cab sauv. The name Farmers Apprentice suggests farm to table and I would include wine in that. So a better selection of BC wines by the glass would be a good idea. I understand though why they have the wines they do. Bill $275 for two people with 1 cocktail each and 1.5 glasses of wine each. A tad too high for the experience but terrific food.
I love the cozy size of this restaurant, the service is exceptional, and the food speaks for itself - incredible local ingredients that are plated into works of art. The natural wine list is the cherry on top. We really enjoyed the prefix menu too! What a relaxed way to eat dinner.
I have been to this place a few times and food is not bad. But very disappointed the last time with the service and portion. My friends ordered the demi menu of the aged duck dish and the plate contains 2 thin slices of duck breast and a small part of duck meat. We thought it was a small portion and even make fun how good they are with the slicing skill and they would only need 1 duck breast for the whole night. It was ok as the food tasted good until our neighbour tables started to have their plates of duck dish arriving with doubling the portion of the duck breast. We were surprised and asked the server about if the smaller portion is due to we ordering the demi menu. But the reply was they should be the same. We asked why my friends have only 2 slices instead of 4 compared to other. They started to say they should be of the same weight and all that (which we are certain they were not), and why didnt we say anything earlier. We told them that we didnt know until we saw what was served to others. At the end, they were very defensive and pretty much ignore our table after. We werent taking pictures type and regretted not doing so. It ruined my friends birthday celebration. Very disappointed and will not be coming back to this place especially there are so many choices out there.
No decision paralysis here, amazing set menu with each new course coming as a surprise.
Amazing cocktails, very nice atmosphere! Love this place!
Honestly one of my favourite food experiences in Vancouver. Everything right, wine pairing fantastic (nature & organic) and service on point. You have to go
Fantastic place...initiate fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere with amazing food and music
I do not get how this place isn t a solid 5 stars. I get that it s a tasting menu in a town used to choosing. I get that it s expensive. Any person going here should know that. What I didn t expect was the freshness and clarity of the food and wine. I had the omnivore menu which didn t significantly change the menu by much, but the salmon with nori purée was the highlight. The natural wine pairing was spectacular. Every choice was smooth and complimentary and a totally new experience for me(which I crave). All-in-all, it was a Sunday night with 3 people working (!!!!) and you would have thought I was in a full service 10+ service restaurant. I wanted for nothing. Everything came on time, and the staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. This was some of the best service and exciting menu I ve had in a while. Will come back!
Amazing place. Price around 70$ per person, food quality was incredible with every dish being a whole experience of so many ingredients. Best of it? They change the menu every night! Id love to have more. Staff was extremely nice, helpful and we met people from the other table. Great experience!
Interesting dining experience. We enjoyed all of the set meals. Apparently the menu changes daily and is never the same. That s impressive. Many reviews state the portions are small and they are but after five courses we were all full and the restaurants policy is to not have you leave early based on feedback from them to another reviewer. I do recommended this place the meals are unique with ingredients you wouldn t normally think would work based on a description but they pull it off.
My favourite place to eat in Vancouver! X
What a gem! This place offers great brunch, with a small and well thought menu. Its said to be $$$ but honestly its not any more expensive than any other local brunch place. Staff is nice, ambience is great.
This quaint establishment has excellent food and outstanding service. The food and drink is of the highest caliber. The music is provided from an eclectic range of vinyl LPs on an warm sounding system. I would recommend highly for a romantic night out, or special evening.
Very nice. Fresh, inventive and tasty dishes that were delicious and well cooked. Quick and friendly service too.
Rich wholesome food, delicious combinations using local fresh ingredients, all guided by the inventive talent of Carlin... Thank you, Farmers Apprentice!
We had brunch, small+large+dessert. It was delicious! Best coffee, good cocktails. Small place with good ambiance. I had the sour broth with mushrooms and the noddles. Made a reservation, Friday morning was slow but you might need one for the weekend.
Nice place. Superb food. Beautiful service. A bit on the expensive side but truly worth it...Very nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.
I wish I could give a 2.5. This place is a hit and miss. When its a hit, the food is amazing, when its a miss, youd wish you didnt spend so much on such poor tasting food.
This place is the best. It has such a cool vibe, a great patio and the food is delicious. Also has a great selection of natural wines which is something that I love personally. If you are into any of that stuff you will love this place.
Great atmosphere, small, friendly and farm fresh. The menu is always changing and everything made in house. Watch out for their tasty doughnuts, made fresh and only 8 at a time. They are made rarely as the chief feels the need. Last month only 3 batches for three days were made! 4.6!!
Best restaurant in the city.
We have been going here for brunch and dinner since they opened. Today we went for brunch and the place felt different (new ownership a couple weeks ago). The table that sat next to us after we arrived, were done eating and on their way out the door and we hadnt yet received our food. When our server noticed this discrepency, she was very apologetic and went to the kitchen immediatelysaying that perhaps our order had been misplaced. Our food came a few minutes later. The manager told us they were slammed and brought us a piece of overly sweet cake that we had already told our server we didnt want. Over-all, the food was mediocre at best, the service was a mixture of great effort and awful. I think I may be done here. Too bad, it has been a favourite for years.
Delicious - fresh & yummy!!
Very tasty brunch and biscuits!
We visited Farmers Apprentice for our date night out while visiting Vancouver and had a nice evening there! We did the demi tasting menu, which is 4 courses rather than 6, with the wine pairing. The tasting menu consisted of a salad, a main course (duck for me, stuffed pasta for my dinner buddy), a vegetable (asparagus for us), and the dessert, along with freshly baked bread with smoked paprika hummus
We returned to this restaurant after not having been for a couple of years. We liked the set menus in the past, but the options on the a la carte menu were good too. Meals were presented beautifully, but a little expensive for the quality. The ambiance in the restaurant is enjoyable, but the service is just average. Our server was nice enough but didnt pay much attention to making our experience an enjoyable one. There was little effort to connect with customers on a personal level. Also, my husband inquired if a small change could be made to a dish and the response we receive was a flat no. The server didnt even attempt to inquire if that was a possibility for the kitchen. We had a nice evening there, but this probably wont be in our regular rotation given the service and price points for the quality of meals.
Service is good, courteous but not personal -- which I actually prefer (I really dislike fake chit chat/small talk when paying). Memorable dish: their summer vegetables appetizer. Plating was beautiful, ingredients were fresh, and the price reasonable. Cocktail: a bit pricey for the quality
A very good restaurant the good is excellent
Spectacular on steroids! Tastebud dance party that one must experience. Without question one of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Gather your friends and family, book tables, order family style and let the fabulous team take care of the rest. Very thankful and grateful for the experience.
The Farmers Apprentice combines an original menu with delicious farm to table ingredients. There are dishes for everyone, we tried the chefs tasting to sample as much as we could ( 6-7 items on the menu including dessert) and didnt regret it. We left full and satisfied. The staff is very knowledgeable both on the food as well as the wine pairings. The food is well priced especially considering the quality of the produce and the dishes themselves. In short this is an excellent restaurant with a beautiful setting. I highly recommend the chefs tasting as it was an amazing value and opportunity to get a full glimpse of what the restaurant has to offer.
Amazing vegetable-forward food. Worthy of multiple visits.
Terrible food. Waste of money. Nice service
Love the seasonal rotation menu with a wide selection of both vegetarian and non vegetarian meals. The lunch special is the best deal around
Really wonderful place. Smart food smart kind service yummy complex food.
It was such a wonderful surprise as we found the place accidentally. Its cosy, all fresh organic farm products and very yummy. Their soup and bread is a must!
If you want to spend $200 and 2 hours of your life sitting in a restaurant starving, this is the place for you. A few yeas ago and it was wonderful. Last night and we spent two hours sitting in hunger, with each course of the ominvore s menu so miniscule, it failed to satiate. Such sad joke! Carrots on the menu means one baby carrot cut in half on your plate. Apple or poached pear is similarly 1/8th of a piece of fruit. The main which was beef, was just enough to drape across your fingers, so thinly sliced that it couldn t have been more than 2oz. We literally had to go home and make dinner. How does this place still exist?
