Dropped by to try their lunch set menu which seemed like a pretty good price for 3 courses at this well-known restaurant. The salmon gravlax was actually my favorite dish, a really light and fresh appetizer with a delicious creamy sauce. The duroc pork was good; there wasn’t anything particularly wrong with it other than a portion of the pork tasting slightly dry, but I suppose I was expecting a bit more from the reputation that this restaurant has. Again, it was good, but it didn’t do anything out of the ordinary that may set it apart from another restaurant in my opinion. The ice cream and bread pudding was good in terms of the ice cream, which was very tasty and I would definitely enjoy a large bowl on its own. The bread pudding however tasted cold and “gummy” in texture, which I didn’t particularly enjoy. I haven’t had many bread puddings however so maybe this is how it’s supposed to taste, but personally I wouldn’t order this bread pudding again. I think that the lunch set menu was good for the price point, and I’ve heard that the lunch set menu rotates, so depending on the change in selection, I might be interested in giving it another try in the future. Overall however, I’d likely be more interested in returning to their sister restaurant, Nightingale, as I’ve been there several times and enjoyed many of the different options each time.
Immemorable and overrated. Might as well name it Pidgeonsworth — any customer here is prey to the whims of a man with a grandiose sense of self-worth, otherwise known as the eponymous head chef. Joey serves better food and for cheaper, and I say that as a fan of fine dining. 3* because the food is certainly edible and the atmosphere/service is nonetheless great (the cocktail lounge is quite nice). I came in November 2021 and vowed to never come back, there are many better options within the city where you can support good people as well. From giving the middle finger at the first Vancouver Michelin ceremony to being a general prick at his tennis club, I don’t see how anyone supports him. I am glad he won’t receive a Michelin star.
Came here on a saturday night at 5:30, place was pretty crowded already especially with the bar area having happy hour guests. We opted for the tasting menu. Everything tasted great, food were fresh and flavours were done very well. Shoutout to the desserts, they were simply phenomenal. However the portions are on the smaller side, with only a few bites for each course at its decently high price point, we left craving for more. The service and environment was a little disappointing. Some, not all, servers made some careless mistakes, and did not feel entirely welcoming for such a fine establishment. Explanations of the dishes could be done better, and more care and finesse would make the whole dining experience a lot better. Overall, the whole experience didn't quite hit the mark for our expectation for a fine dining experience, but the food was incredible. Depending who you get for service, the time of day, and where you are seated, your mileage may vary. TLDR; Amazing food, smaller portions for tasting menu, highly varied service and dining environment.
3 years since my previous review and I have added an extra star. We had an early lunch reservation and we started out with a glass of Champagne in the bar. The friendly, professional barman asked if we were celebrating and word soon got round the serving staff. Seated at our table several staff members congratulated us and at the end of the meal we were presented with a complimentary selection of petits fours. As for the meal, the food and service were at the highest level. If you have wide tastes then the chef's choice/no selection "prix fixe" lunch is an amazing bargain. The sommelier was happy to suggest individual wines by the glass with no pressure to buy a bottle. The service was both correct and friendly. The food was beautifully plated and delicious. I can't wait to return.
First time at Hawksworth and it will not be my last. Decided to treat myself on Sunday morning. Had the Brunch Prix Fixe. Great value. What a wonderful start to the day. All the courses were delicious. The Eggs Benedict was awesome. The eggs were poached perfectly. So luxurious. Fabulous service from Roman. Thank you!
My new favorite Happy Hour in Vancouver. They call it Cocktail Hour, but it's really great. The drinks were great and as expected. However, the burger is the best I've had in Vancouver! When they ask you " how would you like it cooked?" You know you're in the right place. Everywhere else in the world you can have your burger cooked to order. But here in Canada, they MUST cook it well done to comply with moronic "serve it right" regulations. I had my burger medium rare, and it was fantastic!! I'll be back, for sure! Thank you Hawksworth!
Lovely service and good. We had the octopus, foie gras, pork& scallops and the halibut. All of them tasted amazing! Wish there were more octopus than potatoes and the halibut wasn’t so salty. We got good recommendations for wine and they treated us to some bubbles when they found out we were celebrating our anniversary. Special shout out to the pork and scallops- we may come back for it.
Great old fashioned’s, great burgers, and great service. Wonderful happy hour at an upscale place in downtown Vancouver. Had a great time with family before the recent Rolling Stones concert. 10/10 would recommend. The daiquiris are also great and the ribs were fall off the bone. Thanks!!
Came here for a nice dinner and overall everything was ok but not great. I had higher expectations for a fine dinning establishment. I ordered a good amount of appetizers and mains however, we left feeling less than satisfied. Ordered the sable fish and salmon. I felt the portion size for both items were on the smaller size. The salmon was also little bit dry. The burrata and the goat cheese appetizers were both very good. I highly recommend both items.
I am a lover of fine dining and have visited most of the best Michelin-star restaurants in Vancouver. However, last night was my worst fine dining experience ever. I had planned a wonderful Christmas dinner with a friend, but from the moment we walked in, we felt completely ignored and profiled. The server was not attentive and, quite frankly, dismissive. He only came to our table three times, and that was when I had to call his attention. Meanwhile, he attended to other customers politely and warmly. We ended up ordering appetizers because the service was so poor, which ruined our Christmas dinner. The food was late; we waited almost 25 minutes for two pieces of lobster tails. The server got our order wrong and deliberately avoided our table. At one point, I thought he might have been off his shift until I saw him attending to other customers again. I had to call the manager about the lobster tails, and suddenly they arrived. The entire experience was despicable. When I tried to reach the manager at the end of the night, we waited almost 10 minutes, with the excuse that the manager is busy. However, I had seen him just a few minutes before we were leaving the restaurant. When I explained our experience, he completely dismissed it, almost as if he was annoyed by our complaint. He supported the server and said, He is the best server in the restaurant, expressing uncertainty about what we were saying. He reluctantly offered us drinks as a gesture. Having lived in Vancouver for years, I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant before. In my opinion, if you dont want to feel dismissed or profiled when trying to have a nice dinner, be warned. I will never return.
What was once one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver is now one that I will likely never visit again. I dont often go out for fancy dinners so after making a reservation two months before our evening, myself and the other guests were excited. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting over half an hour to be seated, by which point we were all extremely hungry and getting more and more upset over the lies that the Hostess was giving us. All while never once apologizing. Thank goodness for the lovely GM, who tried her best to make it right. To note - she was the only one who seemed to care. The service, once seated, was not top quality service and the meals were sub-par, at best. I had to send my risotto back, as it was completely inedible and ended up not eating anything for dinner. For the price, we all decided that we would rather have a fun evening at Cactus Club. Sorry Hawksworth, but youve gone downhill since you opened and there are far too many other wonderful restaurants in Vancouver to ever visit your establishment again.
Our server Sarah was amazing.
Too crowded - tables jammed so tightly, that when a waiter visited a table next to us, a waiter s ass was 6 inches from my face as they served a table right or left of us. This was happening every 60 seconds or so. Next- the decibel level was measured up to 92db leaving it very difficult to have a conversation with my wife. Next- extremely hot in the restaurant dining room making it quite uncomfortable . The food was very tasty coming in at $318 including wine and sparkling water. ( I wanted to try the Hawksworth burger but was told that was not available in the dining room. ) All in all, not a fine dining experience with servers bums inches from your face continuously, the extremely loud and crowded ambience, and again the very hot dining room.
Interesting food only got a chance to have an app, worth trying again
Very good
M eh. Lots of hype for not a whole lot of substance. The hosts at the front aren t super accommodating, and the general vibe is you re lucky they let you dine there. Happy hour menu is decent, but I ll give the rest a hard pass.
Service was great, and dessert was stellar. I don t dine at this level often but definitely a place to go twice
Ive been here a few years back for dinner and enjoyed it so I thought it would be a great idea to turn for brunch. Something must have happened because the service has gone down quite a bit and not what one would expect. Our water was constantly empty and we had to ask them at least five times during the course of the meal for them to refill it. It was rather slow, close to two hours. Note that they also charge for plain hot water, $4. The ambience wasnt what you may expect as well. The table next to us were extremely loud and you may expect them to be a bit quieter or perhaps for the staff to speak with them. The coffee that came was also lukewarm. Not sure if Ill be going back anymore... Im quite disappointed.
Saturday 6pm supper. Catching the tail end of the happy hour crowds and the beginning of the dinner crowds on their way to the Taylor Swift concert. The place was hopping, with a bustling, jubilant atmosphere! Food was out of this world and the wait staff were plenty, knowledgeable, and personable. There were 2 of us, for my daughter s birthday. We each ordered the Chefs tasting menu; she had one cocktail, I had an ice tea. The price tag was $300 without tip! Not for the faint of heart. Parking: Valet parking for a 2 hour supper was $40. Wheelchair accessibility: From the valet parking, route to restaurant is up an elevator and through the large hotel lobby. However there are 2 steps up half way through the lobby.
Awesome food and incredible service. We would definitely go back!
Adult, smart ambience. Came here for happy hour and was impressed with the drink and food selections. You know it s a good spot when the bar tender will put a drink on hold so that you can get one more drink in before happy hour ends. They know what s up!
Jenna our server was excellent. The whole atmosphere was fantastic. Great place.
Took my significant others here for an advertised oyster deal & a special occasion. Everyone was welcoming until waiter took our order. We declined ordering (paid) sparkling water and ordered advertised oysters. We werent extremely formally dressed. Waiter was visibly judgemental that we didnt order main dishes, probably assuming he would get less tips. At first, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but turning to my significant others I can tell he felt the mood was off too. Unfortunately, the oysters were rather sandy too. We felt extremely unwelcomed, and shocked at the judgemental attitude of our waiter. So much so that we left within 30 minutes and had dinner at another restaurant.
This place has really gone downhill. The service was not good at all the waiters don t seem professional. The food took forever to come out and was sub par. The ambiance was whatever and people were wearing sweats inside. Not the upscale dining experience it used to be.
Excellent happy hour. The staff was great.
This is a review for the Hawkesworth Bar, attached to the Hawkesworth restaurant. My go to here is their fantastic burger , complete with an onion ring and cooked to your liking. Paired this with a pint of Guinness. Service is great. Classy surroundings.
Delicious food. Service is great. Would recommend. #ContestEntry
I come here for the Friday oysters - their quality is beyond expectations!!! Absolutely fresh and delicious!
Kinda a special experience
Hawksworth has a good longstanding reputation and because of this very reason we went for their 3 course brunch. Their Egg Benedict was disappointing considering the restaurant s reputation. The dessert that came with the brunch was also not my favourite. The server was wonderful, unfortunately the food did not match up!
Exceptional dining experience! Delicious, artfully presented dishes, attentive service, and elegant ambiance. Perfect for a special night out in Vancouver. Highly recommend! #ContestEntry
Excellent meal all around. The octopus in the seafood tower was remarkable. The crab leg, however, was a let down. The sable fish was on-point. I had never seen a lobster tail as a side dish before, so had to give that a try. It was a typical buttered steamed lobster. Thanks to the fresh ingredients, everything tasted delicious. The okanagan sparkling wine was sweet and refreshing. The waiter went above and beyond and got me my favorite baked Alaska even though it said dinner only on the menu. Overall a truly enjoyable luncheon.
We came here for our anniversary dinner and they gave us a signed card from all the staff. That was a really kind gesture. We loved dining here and we will be back again.
Tried the seasonal tasting menu and it was exceptional. Food was good and the staff went above and beyond to make the experience memorable. Its a unique experience a food lover should attempt.
A fantastic place for a special date night or celebration. The foie gras and tenderloin are chef s kiss. #contestentry
This was the mignardise? Seems scanty. I found staff to be impatient, abrupt and lacking grace at all levels from bringing dishes to customer and explaining menu, etc. Though this could be more a function of me being female, Asian and dining solo than representative of how they treat all diners.
Bit of a disappointment last night. We went for an early dinner last night before a concert and left a bit under whelmed. The staff did not seem prepared despite us having a reservation, we where seated where a staff member had been working and the table still had their dirty drinking glass. From there the service never really felt like they were in flow. Courses felt like long waits between them, service staff struggled to answear basic questions about the dishes or cocktails. The food and drinks were good but not great and we left a bit generally underwhelmed. For a restaurant trying to play at the highest level it just all kind of fell a bit short. If you looking for a high end experience I feel there are better options in Vancouver.
Fantastic cocktails and outstanding service. Prem and the guys treated us so well. Hawksworth has become our first stop every time we visit Vancouver. Highly recommend the KFC and the olives to accompany the cocktails. Cheers!
Vancouver s premier dining experience. Had cocktails, Willamette Pinot Noir & shared the risotto with scallops and the tenderloin. Everything was amazing.
Not sure how this place has such great reviews. We have been here twice now for dinner. Food and service were both just okay for price. My husband was so hungry after their 6-7 course meal was served we had to hit McDonald s on the way home. There are so many better options in Van for this kind of money. Will not return.
Their seasonal tasting menu with wine pairings is so good
An experience to remember!
My husband and I had a wonderful lunch at Hawksworth. The atmosphere was elegant yet welcoming, and the service was top-notch. The highlight was the Bradner Farms Beef Flat Iron tender, flavorful, and absolutely to die for! A great dining experience overall. We ll definitely be back!
Extrêmement satisfait. Words cant express how happy I am to have celebrated my special day with Hawksworth. Note that this review is from someone who is not easy to please and I also came from a Swiss hospitality institution. True to its reputation, the food quality and service is above 5*. Thanks to our server, the men that I forgot to take their names- which was a bummer. Would have loved to acknowledge them here. It started with warm greetings, an introduction to the menu, guided us with a fine selection of wine, food, and dessert. It was an awesome experience. Plus, they gave us some surprises for our big life events. Wow!!! Thanks Hawksworth for this above and beyond, excellent food and service. You make Vancouver proud by making the food experience here extra uber special!!! By the way, I would highly recommend the miso glazed sablefish (HANDS DOWN TO THE CHEF, THE BEST!) Andthe ice cream and sorbet was our favourite for the dessert. We will definitely be back again!
A very wonderful evening ! Great food, great staff!
My absolute favorite Vancouver Restaurant has managed to impress me again. Not only the food and service is always outstanding, the caring management has shown to my friends visiting from Sweden last Friday was truly commendable. The kitchen kindly replaced a steak after my guest was not satisfied with its doneness. And to our surprised, the restaurant did not charged us for the expensive dish. Wow! This truly shows class and care for their customers. My friends were very impressed. Thank you David Hawksworth and team for your empathy and impeccable service.
I enjoyed happy hour a few times with my family this summer & the food was so delicious and the service was excellent
Drinks and food are good. I went there for the lounge it s tight in there. The waiters give great service but the hostess has such attitude. Spend your money elsewhere.
Top rate restaurant, staff and atmosphere were excellent, small hiccup with 1 meal but staff and manager put it more than right would definitely return.
Delicious food, though menu small there is a reasonable range to chose from. Service was good. Negative on atmosphere is because it was not an intimate dining experience - being quite noisy (exceptionally drunken guests singing & shouting - aske them to quiet down rather than refill their glasses!) and tables too close together (was lovely to meet the people on either side of us - but making friends wasnt the purpose of our evening) Vegetarian options: Not a restaurant for vegetarians Dietary restrictions: None Kid-friendliness: Not appropriate for children Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible
Fantastic service coupled with an excellent food!! Kayla and Antoine were super knowledgeable and Friendly!!
This restaurant was very underwhelming. We visited for our 25th wedding anniversary Sept 7th and the food was disappointing. From happy hour in the bar where our server asked if our salmon was dry (which it was) because other tables were complaining. Although it was unanimous that is wasnt good, it was never removed from our bill. Next we sit in the dining room. My husband has never sent a plate of food back to the kitchen but had no choice with the lamb entree he received. Our server even commented on other meals being rejected which isnt what he should have been sharing with paying customers. There are far better restaurants in Vancouver, I was really looking forward to this one but I left hungry and disappointed and our bill was expensive.
Used to be my favorite lunch spot. As an Asian dining alone, the restaurant manager targeted you. Other non-colored guests can talk as loud as they want, but you need to stay low key and better mute your phone :)
We ate here years ago for dinner but this last time got lunch. I truly forgot just how amazing the food is! The pork collar was melt in your mouth to die for, attention to service impeccable. Will visit more often when in Vancouver!
An impromptu lunch on an easy late summer day. Shown to my favourite table in one corner of the bar overlooking the Art Gallery. Decided to try the prix fixe and was pleasantly surprised by the combination of tastes and textures of each of the three courses. Seamless service from the bartender, Jack.
Loved everything
I gave it two stars because the food is quite delicious, so thank you to the chef. Before the COVID-19 epidemic, I came here for a big dinner every Christmas. Last year (2023) gave me the worst feeling. Does the waiter look down on Asians? Or do you like to look at clothes and judge people? They all tended to ignore me. The old man who served us was the same way. He spoke in a jerky tone and was very slow to give us anything we asked him for. But the other tables were very diligent in running around. Haha, I thought you were lame. Its inconvenient. I wonder if you learned how to treat customers from luxury stores? You are really awesome. I will never go there again. I even have the nerve to accept tips for this service. Where did they recruit the clerk with such quality?
Excellent service - special thanks to Zak
Great food. Went twice in 5 days and would come back again!
Worth every penny! We went for the tasting menu in our 14th anniversary. Great food ,cocktails and dessert Wonderful head waiter Bertrand Awesome place for romantic events
A beautiful restaurant bar within Hotel Georgia. Well crafted classics and solid food. A bloody shame about the TV screen above the bar counter which hurts the atmosphere and vibe.
Absolutely delicious! Presentation is so pretty! Staff is very professional. Will come again.
The cocktails, food and wines were ok but nothing mind-blowing. Too expensive for what it was.
My husband and I can t express how great of an experience this was. We were in Vancouver for our honeymoon and our hotel concierge recommended this place for dinner. Our server, B , was phenomenal and made us feel extra special for being on our honeymoon, even giving us a tour of the kitchen and meeting the chefs in person! The food was more than superb and B and the kitchen were incredible working with my allergies, ensuring I could have an appetizer (which they created off menu for me), main course, and dessert. We have not stopped raving over our experience here, which was by far our favorite memory from our honeymoon.
Excellent in all. We deciding to take the tasting menu and all was delicious. The ambient is elegant The audio separation among the tables allows you to talk with your friends during the dinner.
Recently visited while in town for a concert. Was looking forward to an equisite meal. The main course of lamb saddle was not chewable and had a huge portion of fat, the side vegetables were tasteless. The negroni and service were excellent.
Had a nice lunch although menu is limited and some items were not available. Our meals were good. Dessert delicious.
Hawksworth Restaurant offers a decent dining experience, though it may not quite reach the level of amazing. The food is above average, with some dishes standing out more than others. The cocktails are a highlight and are worth trying if you visit. However, given the price of the bill, I believe theres a lot of room for improvement. Overall, its a good place to visit if youre in the area, but there are certainly opportunities for the restaurant to enhance its offerings and make the experience more memorable.
One of the best places for Happy Hour. I highly recommend the place. I went back for my anniversary dinner and everything was amazing. Food
A must go for happy hour. The lounge is excellent and you will be blessed if Jenna is your server. She is awesome, such exuberance she made us feel so welcome. Friday champagne and oysters specials didn t hurt but seriously a great vibe and the most amazing staff. Thank you Jenna !!!!
Came in for happy hour on 16aug. Only the Oysters were delicious. Wagyu skewers were average, Candied salmon was not okay Server was excessively loud. She failed to serve my drink that should have accompanied my hamburger sandwich. I had to remind her. Hamburger sandwich not tasty & dry. It tasted much better our last time. Music was too loud.
Excellent vibe, menu changes weekly and is always full of enough options to satisfy most. The sea food tower was the highlight for sure. Cocktails are well crafted and well priced.
Food was nothing special especially for its price. This comments applicable for appetizers, salads, main course, and desserts. Although their plating was beautiful. Very good service and atmosphere was above average.
Excellent restaurant we stopped in today for lunch. Food is exceptional and presentation is even better. Our server, Patrick, is easily the most warm, compassionate, funny, and knowledgeable server I ve ever had. Someone we would all like to hang with outside of this place. Thanks Patrick!
We ordered the tasting menu. It was awful. The starter of asparagus was the only delicious thing in the experience. I was looking forward to the pigeon but it came undercooked, unable to come off the bone. The worst pigeon I ever had. The somelier made up for it he had very good wine pairing and the staff and manager tried their best to make up for it, but that is water under the bridge if the food is bad...
Came here for a company dinner, had appetizers and a 3-course menu. Started off with a fresh asparagus soup, melt-in-your-mouth sea bass, and a lovely tangy lemon meringue dessert . Presentation was lovely but portion sizes were a bit small, had to supplement with a few snacks afterwards . Overall, a really posh restaurant for a company dinner
Hawksworth was good, not star quality good... We dined on a Friday night and it was easy to get a day of reservation. We had the filet and the bouillabaisse. Both ok, not star-worthy
Good place, great service, good/average food.
Its okay. Nothing wow. Service is something they can improve Food : 3/5
Pleasant surprise by Hawksworth! Every dish is meticulously prepared and tasty. Their service is excellent like a star restaurant. We will definitely go back more often!
Coming back. Again
I went for happy hours. Service is good. Food is great.. the happy hours table is too small for 6 of us.
Had our private wedding dinner here. Restaurant staff were incredible with planning the event weeks in advance. Marlen and Arvind were both so kind, friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.
We came in for birthday dinner. Ordered Burrata to share with champagne, the classic burger and lamb sirloin for mains and Creme Brule for dessert. The burrata was very plain and small in portion. It wasn t as special as our server recommended but the classic burger and the lamb sirloin were fantastic. The atmosphere was also perfect. Overall, had a great experience and we would definitely come back.
The best happy hour in town, hands down! Hawky Hour offers top food, service and atmosphere. The west coast oysters topped with green apple and yuzu foam was exquisite. Fresh and sweet. The classic burger was substantial enough for my husband and I to share. They split it for us, which was good. We also had the Baby Back Pork Ribs which had a sesame and peanut glazing. Delish! I had a Negroni and my hubby had an Old Fashion. The finished everything with a nice hot towel. Atmosphere was quiet and elegant, with subdued vibes as we watched the Canucks beat Edmonton in Game 5. Love this place! Parking: There s parking in the Pacific Centre mall across the street but very expensive. We were there for an hour and a half and the B parking cost us $19.
Tidy place. Burger was underwhelming for the price tag and the Sole was overly salty. Seasoned is one thing, too much salt is another. The Hirst serigraph print and Rodney Graham art pieces were nice though. He aint Feenie.
Mogsworth be like: But truthfully, this is a wonderful dining place, with an unmatched atmosphere and a small but well made menu. If you ignore the price, as I like to. Food
One can spend $5-60 for a very good lunch or $3-400 for a poor one. Unfortunately, this was the latter! The seafood tower except for the oysters was not of fresh seafood which was obvious visually. Despite seasoning, the chopped scallops, squid etc were of bland taste. Unfortunately, I changed my mind for a seafood bouillabaisse which consisted of overcooked bland tasted prawns, octopus etc. we booked online stating it s a graduation lunch but the waitress didn t even know about it as we told her! There s no gesture from the restaurant from the restaurant either.
Amazing happy hour specials although it is quite short 4pm to 6pm. Very good cocktails pricing as well. Must order their baby ribs and KFC Korean Fried Cauliflower. Food : 5/5
Food was not great, slow, small portions
Hawksworth Restaurant represents the pinnacle of fine dining in Vancouver. From the moment you step into the sophisticated, elegant ambience, you are enveloped in an atmosphere of culinary excellence. The attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience is truly remarkable, from the impeccable service to the artfully presented dishes that delight the palate. The menu showcases a brilliant fusion of flavors, using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create dishes that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Whether its a special occasion or a desire for an exceptional dining experience, Hawksworth Restaurant exceeds expectations, making it a standout destination for those seeking refined, elevated cuisine.
Finally made it downtown to try the 3 course lunch special; so glad I did! The food was amazing in both taste and presentation, the service was excellent, and the room was nicely appointed. Haven t been to Hawksworth in years, but so happy I did make the effort. Can hardly wait to see July s lunch special!
I had an outstanding dining experience at Hawksworth Restaurant, largely thanks to our incredible server, Bertrand. His exceptional service skills truly elevated our evening. Bertrand was incredibly patient, thoroughly answering all our questions about the menu with impressive knowledge. His recommendations were spot on, and his attentive, friendly demeanor made us feel very well taken care of. When I return, I will definitely request Bertrand as my server. Highly recommend!
`Chef David Hawksworths menu is a masterful blend of innovation and tradition. The dishes are thoughtfully prepared, showcasing locally sourced ingredients with a keen eye for presentation. Standouts include the Pacific sablefish and the Yarrow Meadows duck, each dish a testament to the chefs commitment to quality and flavor. The wine selection is extensive and well-curated, providing perfect pairings for the diverse menu. Service at Hawksworth is impeccable attentive, knowledgeable, and unobtrusive, striking the right balance for a fine dining establishment.
The service was very good. The food was delicious. It was a great and enjoyable experience. Thank you.
Fantastic meal in a great environment with outstanding service
Food and service was awesome. The cocktails list needs some innovation- pretty ordinary/standard. We had the lamb, chicken and the bouillabaisse - they were all good.
Everything is simply perfect about this place! Food, service, atmosphere everything is a top notch at Hawksworth!
Great Happy Hour.
The environmental service dishes are very good.
I came for dinner 2 weeks ago Price and quality for a city center location Its reasonable Service in place But it s too close to the bar area Loud music and conversation made dinner time a chore.
Great night out. The space is beautiful, food was good. And service was good. I would recommend for a special night out.
Wow! What an amazing dinner! We wanted something nice in both atmosphere and food and we re not disappointed. We had the tasting menu, which was absolutely amazing. What made it most amazing though as we did have an issue with one element of a dish, and the chef made us a special dish that wasn t even on the menu yet to replace it, which was phenomenal. Both the SeaBass and Lamb was succulent, the fresh ingredients that complemented them were super tasty and well prepared. The desert new to us, was one of my all time favorite deserts! Definitely something I can t recreate . Will just have to go back again! The service was outstanding, super personable very in tune to who we were and what we needed sometimes even before we needed it. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner anytime!
We came for lunch on Saturday to celebrate Mothers Day and birthday. There was 7 of us. 4 of us had the Hokkaido scallops prix fixe lunch and 2 had crab risotto and one had chicken. We shared a seafood tower and ordered some specialty coffees and retro priced cocktails @ $12. The 3 courses were delectable, flavors and textures in balance. Loved the panna cotta, desserts and infused ice cream. Hawksworth is one of my husbands and mine favorite Vancouver restaurants and we are glad to share this with our adult sons. Excellent food and service. Will come back for cocktails and happy hour as weve never tried this before. The chefs tasting menu for dinner never disappoints.
My food was extremely salty. Not only one dish but all of our dishes were on the salty side. My ribeye steak meat was not fresh. My asparagus was too salty. My salad was salty. The lamb dish was salty and the lobster risotto dish was salty. I do not recommend this place.
Had the lunch tasting menu, delicious and light, service was amazing as well, and the GM Vanessa is an absolute peach.
We had the tasting menu with wine pairings and it did not meet our expectations. The food delicious, but it was scarce, and most wines werent good. The first course consisted of two prawns with cucumber, watermelon radish and a herb vinaigrette; there was barely any food on the plate, which is understandable for a first course. It was paired with a pink French pinot noir wine, which was quite pleasant. The second course was a small halibut fillet with English pea, sorrel and sauce vierge; the fish was very tender and the sides were very flavorful. This was served with an Australian riesling, which tasted like burnt rubber. After this, we were served a sea buckthorn sorbet as a pallet cleanser, which was very sweet. The third -and supposedly main- course arrived: a chicken and mushroom concoction with asparagus and sauce; it was as delicious as it was small, very scarce for what was presented as a main dish. The wine pairing was a young local red wine that tasted very cheap. The fourth course was dessert, bay leaf ice cream and toasted honey crème on shortbread, with some pink fruit on top which was impossible to cut without a knife, and we were not given one; nevertheless, it was quite tasty. The wine pairing was a very sweet and deep jerez. Finally, the fifth course consisted of a few pieces of fruit chocolate, with no wine pairing. The service was attentive, but the servers were quite awkward. We were sat at a table where we could directly see the kitchen and hear the chef yell service, please over and over, which really disrupts the sophisticated ambiance the restaurant is clearly going for. Overall, at ~$170 per person to leave the restaurant hungry, I would not recommend this experience.
My son and I greatly enjoyed the lunch tasting menu. Every dish was a work of art, and the service was very attentive and accommodating.
Weve been here before and had great food in the lounge but sadly everything about this time was disappointing. There was no one at the front when we walked in so we entered the lounge. The hostess came rushing back, she was abrupt and rude that we didnt wait for her but there was no sign saying wait to be seated. She actually waited until we turned around and went back to the desk in front of her just to take my name and number. The lounge was maybe half full. The lounge staff were not friendly, they came by didnt say hi or introduce themselves just what did we want. Our drinks were slow to arrive, didnt ask if we wanted food. My brother asked for a napkin they brought one single bar size napkin, didnt ask if anyone else wanted one and didnt bring any just in case. Actually it took so long for them to come back around and they didnt appear that busy that we chose not to order food or another round. We sat on a couch that did have another table at the other end we didnt think they would sit someone there since there were 4-5 other tables to choose from but they did. That wasnt truly a big deal it was just odd and based on the rudeness from the hostess and lack of any service or personality from the staff I thought Id mention it. The drinks we did have were ok, they were lacking flavour. All around disappointing even more because weve had great times previously.
We had an absolutely amazing evening at Hawksworth!! It was my husbands birthday and we did the Chefs Tasting Menu. Each dish was better than the last - and they have an extensive mocktail menu as well which we enjoyed. The service was by far the best I ve seen, they did not feel overbearing but no need was met unmet at any point (as soon as you get up to use the bathroom for example your napkin is re-folded neatly on the table). Could not have been a better spot to celebrate our special occasion :) Dietary restrictions: I have a diary allergy and they accommodated it perfectly - at no time did I feel as though my dish was any less flavorful or filling than my husbands who was not dairy free
We enjoyed a family dinner at the Hawksworth. Organized team handling the reservation, questions, slight changes, checking in, coat checks. While two sommeliers were available to recommend wines, it was nice that there was a choice of alcohol free drinks for our party. Gratuity was determined by the guest which was a nice surprise. Kid-friendliness: No problem providing a high chair.
My husband and I each enjoyed the tasting menu tonight April 18. Delicious! Server Stephanie was truly welcoming and just such a wonderful host, always appearing at just the right moment and with just the right words. Sommelier (captain Cam?) helped me appreciate my wine pairings. We had a memorable evening! Thank you
I went there for lunch with Dine Out Vancouver. The food is good quality but quite bland, not a lot of flavours. Although the service was great. The staff was attentive to my friend who has nuts allergy and made sure that everything was safe for her.
I ordered its signature, the KFC (Korean fried cauliflower), something yet to be on the menu, and the duck. The KFC is perfect. Even if its not in cauliflower, but in chicken, it would still be perfect fried chicken. But substituting chicken to cauliflower only makes it even better. That something yet to be on the menu, for me, shouldnt be on the menu at all. The sauce tastes unreasonably bitter, something similar with burnt smell. The rareness of the meat is not well distributed, making it tough to chew. I appreciate that they gave me a new dish, the duck, for free, in place of the previous one. The potato on the duck plate is so delicious, probably the best I have ever had. I also marveled at the tenderness of the duck that you dont even need a knife to put it into your mouth. However, the surface is unbelievably salty. I can only taste the salt without any other taste. I am not saying the restaurant is running bad business. I even appreciate their efforts to make me feel satisfied. However, for the money I pay, I can only give no more than 1 .
ABYSMAL service, NO ambiance, and unapologetically self-important, with a menu that attempts to be inspired and results in confusion. Dear Fellow Diners, may I ask when was the last time YOU had occasion to request a different server at the outset of your dining experience? Perhaps that will explain this review. The server, an apparent used car salesman, who paused at our table long enough to ask about a beverage. When asked about sparkling wine by the glass, the server rattled off choices punctuating his remakes with their being a good deal . Presumably, a statement on our ability to enjoy fine dining? Before that discussion could continue, the server abruptly LEFT, attended to OTHER tables, chatting, taking orders, and relaying them to the kitchen. While we contemplated whether to leave (in hindsight, that would have been the correct decision), a French gentleman approached our table, seeing it absent of any beverage. A discussion of Cabernet ensued, and his recommendation was greatly appreciated. It was only later that we were advised this gentleman is the Sommelier, and a quite accomplished one at that. Since this gentleman was not a server, we asked if he might help us request a different server. A brief time passed and another individual approached our table, wanting to understand what was the matter? with a tone and demeanor that indicated we had failed to follow some unstated protocol (think Soup Nazi from Seinfeld). The events were related, we reiterated the request for a different waiter, or to simply pay for our bottled water and glass of fine. That was met with, I don t want that. and orders were taken. A green salad (literally, a bowl of bitter mixed greens, devoid of flavor), and a pair of burgers (which had been highly and heartily recommended by the hotel Concierge). The original server did materialize once, and when advised we had requested a different server, his response was Perfect before dashing away. Periodically, a silent individual wound their way through the maze of tables, earning the nickname Mako Shark for the mechanical, purposeful manner of travel. A server, an assistant? A mystery. The burgers did arrive, served on a wooden platter, with a metal cup of french fries. The burger was average, with the promised cheddar, slices of bacon, onion ring, pickles, sliced tomato, and lettuce. An average burger and fries at the less than average price of $31 each. Presumably, there is considerable preparation in the onion ring, bacon, and other condiments. A separate set of ketchup and mayonnaise containers were provided for each burger. Mustard was not presented. Perhaps that is available on request, IF you have an attentive server. Or one willing to communicate. The ambiance is LOUD, blaring music, dimly lit (a flashlight helped to read the menus). Frankly, the meal was ruined by the original server, then punctuated by the exchange that followed. That marred the entire dining experience, rather than made any attempt at recovery from it. The simplest gesture of apology would have been immensely appreciated. Other patrons at other tables appeared to fare much better. This experience was relayed to a very surprised concierge, along with the suggestion that the establishment NOT be recommended. A final tally of over $120 for two burgers, a shared salad , and a glass of exceptional wine, with rude, inattentive service does seem to be a bit exorbitant. Perhaps there was an offering for courteous, helpful service on the menu that was overlooked. If only. Dine at your own peril.
I loved the food here. Service was also top class. We had 3 servers looking out for us and gave us detailed suggestions and information about the menu and food. I loved the KF cauliflower - one of the best I have ever had!
Incredible restaurant! Food, drinks, service all were 5star top shelf. We later the sommelier pick the wine and she hit she mark with a beautifully balanced BC merlot. If you are in Vancouver this restaurant is a must!!!
Fantastic food and wonderful staff. Asia was such a wonderful and charming person. The fois gras was also spectacular and really stood out.
Returned to Hawksworth to celebrate my wifes birthday. As usual, everything was perfect. This is the place we celebrate all our anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions. The service is as good or better here as any fine dining restaurant I have ever enjoyed, anywhere in the world. March 2024: yet another great evening. Our favorite place in Vancouver.
Wow! Excellent food and service
Every once in a while you come across a gem and this place fits the bill - on all accounts. They have found the absolute sweet spot when it comes to modern, classy, fine dining without the pretentious, stuffy, formal atmosphere you find in some other top end restaurants. Our waiter Vinny and the sommelier Cameron could not have been better. If you want an outstanding experience with a modern west coast twist then this is your place.
Their Dine Out Vancouver lunch at JUST C$36, is an incredible deal From venison tartare to chicken leg pressé and divine chocolate tarte each bite is a steal of indulgence. ______________________ IG: #roamardtheworld
I wish I could put 6 stars as 5 is definitely not enough! The Hamachi crudo was absolutely the best I ever had ! Duck breast was cooked to perfection and special kudos go to a gentleman, who took my order, asked how I like it to be done - something that team members in other restaurants failed to do. The pan seared foi gras was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside while being cooked and not raw, as unfortunately I had in a different restaurant. Now, the service was Top Notch Both gentleman working in the lounge tonight between 5 and 6 pm were mega attentive and accommodating! I did not get their names but I truly hope their management will know who they are based on the staff schedule and they will get the recognition that they deserve. I have been looking for a restaurant that I could say was my favourite in Vancouver and I feel like I finally found it ! I will certainly come back next time when I am in Vancouver and I will ensure to recommend you guys to everyone!
Fantastic intimate venue. Lovely fitout, attentive bar and wait staff, extensive wine menu and knowledgeable sommelier. Food is beautifully done, interesting combinations of flavour that won t disappoint. Our waiter, middle aged French guy, (sorry not good with names) was amazing. Good for a chat but didn t hover. Loved it
Cocktail: Pink elephant.. Drink was just ok! Service
For being as much as a foody as I am I write few reviews. Tonight was a bad experience though at one of my old favourite restaurants Hawksworth that I dine in several times a year in Vancouver bc that I don t think I will visit again. Last time I visited this establishment a few months ago I had the best elk dish I have ever had. The only negative thing I thought of Hawksworth before this was all the servers would rest the menus that everyone touched on the clean napkins for some reason but it was a small negative trait compared to all the good here. This last experience was not good though. I ordered the sablefish which I thought was a little high priced at $61 before tax but being a nice restaurant and usually fair portions I thought it would be consistent as usual . The piece of fish came out and was literally about 2 ounces which was so small it looked like it should have garnished the top of part of a sushi roll. On top of that I asked the server to not put any sauce on my dish and the servers colleague came out and poured sauce on it anyway. I told the server and she didn t say a word back. I then told the server again later in the night and all she said was I told the kitchen you were dissatisfied . I am Very disappointed.
Went to this restaurant for our anniversary and it was amazing. The restaurant is beautiful with a nice atmosphere, not to mention the food and service. Its an excellent choice for a special occasion.
Cannot go wrong with their 4-6 happy hour - cheap drinks, great food, great atmosphere (go for their low sofa seating but go early to secure them).
This was my first time at Hawksworth with my family. While the server was very friendly and helpful, I was very disappointed to be told we only have a two hour limit. We were surprised at that and that made our experience less enjoyable because we felt pressured/rushed to finish in a 2 hour window. In all fairness we had called ahead to say we were running 15 min late but still. I would give 4 stars for service except Im giving an extra star for their accommodation of dietary restrictions. Our food took a long time to arrive and we ended up leaving 2.5 hours later without any problems. The food was very good except my goose was tough and chewy. I did not complain about it but everyone else was very happy with their meal. The decor and atmosphere was beautiful.
Yesterday I visited Hawkswort for lunch with my friends. They gave us really nice table. Price for the food was very affordable for this type of the restaurant, it was the set menu lunch for Dine out Vancouver for 36$. I enjoyed the lunch, it is very nice ambience, and good food quality. They have my favorite wine Moscato, so it was great experience for me. I will definitely visit again for dinner. At the evening the ambient looks beautiful.
Amazing restaurant
We went for my birthday, amazing food, service and ambiance! My brother called ahead to say that I was vegetarian for the multi-course dinner which was wonderful. I still think about it all these years later, it was that epic! Thank you for such a magical memory with my family.
Went for Dine Out Vancouver menu and was not disappointed! Great service from all of the staff and the food quality was exceptional. The pavlova dessert is to die for, would eat it everyday if I could.
Came here for a friends 40th, worst $1000 you could ever spend. The service and atmosphere were 5 star but the food was beyond explanation, the seafood tower in particular. To call that a tower is criminal, more like a 2 story walk-up lowrise. Its cost $120 and didnt offer crab legs nor did it have enough for 4 people to at least try everything. 2 pieces of uni and 2 pieces of crab on a thin cracker for 4 people to split is an embarrassment. They have a great happy hour, get the oysters and burger but please dont stay for dinner **update** You may have seen an automated message by Hawksworth s social media team encouraging me to get in touch with them. Rest assured I did reach out and of course no one bothered to respond. This message is commonly utilized by restaurants to show review review readers they care about poor experiences by its patrons but in the world of celebrity chefs and haute cuisine they could honestly care less, they got my money and on to the next. 3 stars is now 2 stars
We held a private birthday party in their York Room on the second floor for just over 30 people. It s a beautiful room marred by horrifically inappropriate art . The room itself is elegant from a bygone era with large ugly pop art on three out of four walls. We asked that they be covered or removed and the request was declined. The Vancouver Club was unavailable for the date(s) that would have worked, and Hawksworth was chosen because we had heard good things about the food. We were assigned an event coordinator and chose food and beverages from a special menu that would be distributed to the guests and they would choose their own three courses. Main courses were between a chicken dish and a fish dish. Bread service and coffee service were additional and the fact that we had chosen both was noted on the order sheet. Beyond asking to have the hideous art removed from the room, the only other request we had was that guests be greeted at the door with a glass of red or white wine upon arrival. The day before the event we went down to the hotel to go over everything personally with the event coordinator to make sure that everything was clear. She said she wouldn t be there the day of the event, but assured us that everything would be relayed to the staff on duty and the event would be flawless. WELL upon arrival we noted that a number of guests had arrived on time (we were about 15 minutes beyond start time) and noted that there was no one at the door offering any wine and had to go and hunt for the person in charge who said that they were unaware of the request and that it wasn t on the order sheet or under special instructions . He scrambled to get it organized. Partway through the first course it was noted that no bread (artisan no less) had been provided. When mentioned we were again told that it wasn t on the order sheet and they would have to order it from the kitchen and it would take awhile because it is served warm. It arrived midway through the second course. At the end of the evening it was noted that there was no coffee being served with the dessert course. AGAIN, when asked about it we were told that it wasn t on the order sheet. He scrambled to get that ordered and served after most of the guests had departed. It arrived luke warm. As far as the food went, most of the guests ordered the fish plate and were happy with their order. I had the chicken and it was served warm, and it was so rubbery I could have bounced it off the ugly art on the wall. Not impressed, particularly as it is a simple dish for any restaurant to produce. With alcohol and a 19% gratuity added to the bill, as it approached close to 5 figures it would have been nice to have more than the bread and the coffee service comped to us. As I see the problems with their operation there is no elevator to the second floor it s a steep flight of stairs through one end of the restaurant. For people with mobility issues, they are brought up in a service elevator that is accessed through the kitchen. Not first class. AND, the art is rented so you get what is there, take it or leave it. AND, the food is mostly served luke warm and hodgepodge because the kitchen is on the first floor and it all has to be brought up in that service elevator to the second floor. Imagine being the poor staff running up and down. AND, obviously there is a problem with communication between the event planner and the system that gives the wait staff their instructions. Most telling about Hawksworth s entire operation is that someone who spends almost $10,000 with them in one evening doesn t even get a personal phone call to apologize for their complete screw up of the evening. To put a period to the entire evening, we had enjoyed a wonderful dinner and evening the night before at the Tea House Restaurant in Stanley Park. MUCH better food, much more attentive service and MUCH better parking for your dollar. If service is important to you, (not to mention hot food) avoid this place like the plague. You won t be paying for a lot of hype. Parking: The parking fee was $60.
Really good food. Scallops were supposed to be only a side dish, but were as divine as the mains. Service really attentive.
We had the tasting menu tonight. Most excellent. Tuna: complex. Delicious. Sablefish: perfectly warmed. Excellent sauce, the endive could have been slightly crisper. Duck: nice touch with the smoke. Leek was very good. Dessert: excellent sesame ice cream. The underlying custard was slightly too firm. The sommelier was very attentive and helpful. I would give Hawksworth a Michelin Star!
Lets be blunt; we came here for the astonishing happy hour deal and experienced a delightful team, a pleasant space, great drinks and delicious food options. Most of the write ups on this space focus upon the delightful dining room, which did have a lovely overall feel. Since we were there pre dinner on both occasions we visited, the dining room was quiet and the bar was full and busy. Even so, we were able to hold a conversation at normal voice levels and got great attention and charming bar tenders still focused upon crafting lovely drinks albeit at a great value. I did not try the gorgeous looking burger but did sample other delights including those cocktail friendly oysters! Def put this one on your list as a great option for early drinks and either retire to the full dining room or try another great restaurant in the area. You wont be disappointed. And then there is that lovely Damien Hirst to keep your eyes busy.
I wanted to love this place. I really did. My husband and I went for my birthday and we ordered a wide variety of dishes. Every single dish was disappointing or simply inedible. We started with oysters - definitely not fresh, and in fact, one of them was clearly dead when shucked (we got a $2 discount for the dead oyster that could have made us seriously sick). Then, we got the ribs yes the meat fell off the bone but not in a juicy kind of way; it had clearly been sitting out for a long time and the meat had simply shrunken away from the bone (the dish was cold when it arrived and had a slightly funky taste). The worst dish of the night was the tartare - unseasoned, gamey flavour and a very unappetizing grey colour (a clear sign it had been sitting out and had oxidized). The lamb shank was extremely bland and had no seasoning at all. It was just plopped in a puddle of jus. And despite being served in a cast iron pan, it was lukewarm at best. However, the polenta was very tasty and creamy. We would have eaten a bowl of that instead. The famous Hawksworth burger was simply meh. A basic burger piled up with lettuce, bacon, tomato and an onion ring. The patty was not juicy and lacked seasoning. There was nothing special or unique about the whole ensemble. And the onion ring - clearly a prefab prefrozen limp specimen that had a bland, mealy coating. But I must say the fries were actually quite tasty. Which is a good thing because I couldn t finish the burger. Determined to be impressed by something at this restaurant, we ordered dessert. We had the Baked Alaska a strange cacophony of flavours marred by the alcohol that was poured all over it and not sufficiently burned off by the server. Luckily. we ordered the cheese tray, and thankfully, this wasn t messed up (I mean, how can you mess up cheese, crackers and fruit?). On top of it all, our server was disengaged and not very uninformed about many of the dishes she was serving us (when she didn t know what an item was on the plate, she just made it up; I m sorry but I do know the difference between quince paste and fig jam and between a Fanny Bay and Sunseeker oyster). She was simply performing a (mediocre) job and would have been better suited to a casual restaurant (not one where we had spent more than $300 on our meal). I typically try to post only positive reviews. Restaurants are really struggling in the current economy. But so are many restaurant guests. We saved for months to eat here. And this experience has not only left me with a bad taste in my mouth, but with a firm resolve to never, ever eat here again. Shame on you, Hawksworth. I expected so much better.
Dine out Vancouver experience. Food was nice, everything was very nicely appointed. Small tasting portions, but made with good care, plated and served well. Veal cheeks were delicious
Pass on this restaurant! Expected a culinary experience, huge disappointment. Start with the most ridiculous presentation of Beluga caviar, served with toast bread cut into triangles accompanied by potato chips, yes potato chips. Ordered Duck Confit, arrived cold and bloody red, sent back for perhaps actual cooking, manager comes to table and arrogantly proceeds to educate me on the proper preparation of Duck Confit, as if I was born on Mars. Clearly this restaurant has lost the skill of customer service and should revise its operation. Waste of time and Money!
My boyfriend took me to Hawksworth for our one year anniversary and it was the perfect choice. The ambiance was dark and romantic. The service was top-tier, the staff were enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and highly attentive. They were having a half-off oyster and champagne special, so we had the east coast oysters which were high-quality and fresh. The champagne was good, but I m not a good judge because I m in college and usually drink the worst champagne on the market. As for main food items, we had the Steak Tartar, Sole, and Duck Confit. The steak tartar was the star of the show, it had excellent flavor and was very tender. The sole was cooked well and had a great caper sauce. The duck was tender and my boyfriend really enjoyed the puffed grains and glaze on top of it. For dessert we had the Sourdough Brownie, which somehow had many different chocolate flavors within the dish. There were bitter cacao nips, crispy chocolate, chewy chocolate brownie, the whole works. Really great, obviously, how could it not be. Overall, we had no complaints, an excellent meal, and a great anniversary. Definitely pricey, but totally worth for the occasion.
Food was great
Tasting menu Feb 19 + paring wine. The sommelier was really knowledgeable, server was attentive and caring. Their dishes are delicious, especially the Sable fish dish, dessert was just fine. All and all we had a good dinner & worth the price.
Fantastic place for pleasure or work. Staff were amazing highly recommend.
We had Xmas dinner there and at first, I was upset because we could not be seated at our allotted time since people were still there from prior booking. I had to wait at least 20 mins; however, the manager did his best to try to move the people from the table (btw, those people were rude because if you know you need to give the table up by a certain time, then they should have done it!) and he comped us some snacks at the bar. When we were finally seated, the service was great and the food was wonderful. He also didn t charge for the drinks. So I appreciate that he did everything he could to make sure my Xmas dinner with my sons was as enjoyable as possible.
I finally pulled the trigger on December 23, 2023 by dining at Hawksworth Restaurant and Im so glad that I did. As a local, I would often walk-by this storied establishment wondering what it was like to dine here and to echo some of the other reviews, the caliber of culinary creations and the level of service really is, second to none. Throughout my 2-hour sitting, I savoured every mouthful of the following gastronomic delights (see attached pictures): 1. Caviar (imperial, rich, buttery, and with a subtle nuttiness). 2. Veal carpaccio, tonnato sauce, local greens and anchovy dressing. 3. Local harvest farm pear & romaine, guanciale, almond mustard vinaigrette. 4. Bradner farms striploin, celeriac, braised beef cannelloni, maitake, brussels sprouts, red wine jus. 5. Sorbet (mango & guava). The caviar was paired with a glass of sparkling white wine from the Okanagan and thanks to Alex, the Sommelier, I thoroughly enjoyed a glass of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon by Moss Wood during my heady journey. Had it not been for my openness to learning and Alexs expertise, I would never have been introduced to such a wonderful wine. My server, Andres, was attentive and professional. While his demeanor was not an ideal fit for my personality, it may be a perfect fit for others. In closing, what also made the evening so special was the privilege of sitting at table 74. This calm and intimate oasis, away from the storm of activity in the room next door, is the perfect corner for all your senses to come alive. To the hardworking professionals at Hawksworth Restaurant, thank you for making my first visit so memorable and special.
Sophisticated and refined atmosphere. The service was great. I enjoyed Hamachi as a starter and duck breast as a main dish. I liked both, however, want to try other dishes next time.
Passable dinner experience at Hawksworth. Disappointed with the meager food portions especially for the price. Dining area was small and very loud, did not feel high-end. Would not return again.
The food was one of the best I have ever had and service was amazing!
Food service was incredibly slow. The restaurant was about half full when we entered. We ordered at around 6, and our food came out at 7:30 after we asked the server to check on it for us. I suspect that they saw we made a smaller order and prioritized the other tables. The other tables were served much more promptly than us. We were getting super hungry, and after waiting an hour and a half for our food, we ate quickly and left. The food was decent, nothing amazing. Got more food somewhere else that was faster and not $200. One of my friends got food poisoning after having the mussels and clams from the chowder. I felt fine after having the strip loin. Unfortunately, I wouldnt recommend Hawksworth to anyone.
Waited an hour and a half for food, tiny portions, got food poisoning
Enjoyed NYE lunch with my adult children at Hawksworth. Our first time visiting at this establishment. We had oysters, wagu tartare and hamachi as appetizers. Steelhead, tuna tataki and short ribs as mains. A Mont Blanc for dessert. Top notch, attentive service. Excellent food and stylish presentation. A lunch to remember.
Went there with my friends for my birthday. My overall experience was average. Staff was not very helpful when I asked to be moved to another smaller table (the area we were seated in was loud and crowded). I was told that smaller tables are all booked. But most of them were empty until closing time (I went at 9pm). Food was average and my friend did not enjoy the duck that was served. It was not cooked according to preference. Waiters seemed like they were in a hurry to get our orders and weren t very friendly in suggesting main course dishes. I would, however, recommend this place for its ambience (lunch maybe or on a quiet night).
Regretfully this was a mediocre experience. Some of the items were great like the Oysters, but the feature Tasting Menu was disappointing. 7 courses and 3 of them were dessert, the only mains we received were down right tiny. I m aware it s more about taste, but for 3 desserts and a small potato the size of a sugar cube I think Hawksworth needs to evaluate their decisions. It s the only fine dining tasting menu I ve ever seen with 3 desserts.
This will be a tough review to write. We live in Victoria and came over to Vancouver for the day/night and booked the tasting menu at Hawksworth. We arrived a couple minutes early for our reservation and were warmly greeted and our coats were taken. We had a cozy table for two at the window...a good start. Our waiter took our cocktail orders which were delivered by the lounge server and they were excellent cocktails. The Sommelier stopped by and asked if we were interested in wine and we told him that we were having the tasting menu and would like to do the wine pairings. He was very nice and said, thats great, Ill pop by with your first pairing when I notice youre finished your cocktails. This is where the evening took a turn. The manager, Richard, came by and informed us there had been a mix up and that unfortunately there were no tasting menus available but that they would work towards putting something together from the a la carte menu to ensure we had a great experience. I said thats very disappointing but were open minded to look at the menu and see what they suggest. Our server stopped by and they were very nice and friendly but werent particularly helpful in terms of suggesting items etc. So we each put together what we thought would be a decent pairing of starter and entree. I ordered the Carpacio and Tonato Sauce to start, followed by the Elk Chop. My wife ordered the Parsnip Soup as a starter and the Duck as entree. Everyone was very apologetic in regards to the mix-up and the tasting menu not being available. The Sommelier stopped by and we told them what we had ordered and after a couple minutes he returned with some options that were of a similar price point to the tasting menu wine pairing and something that he felt would pair very well with everything we ate. He really was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and deserves a raise as he rescued the evening. Richard the manager gave his staff the green light to make our experience a good one unfortunately the back of the house let the side down on this evening. The parsnip soup was lukewarm and under seasoned. The skin on the duck was nowhere near crispy and the accompanying Pave was COLD. My carpaccio was delicious but my elk chop, ordered rare-medium rare, was well done. Again, the staff rose to the challenge and took away my entree to get it redone. By the time my wife had finished her entree my elk was nowhere to be seen so I called for the manager again and asked him how do you think its going? He was great, he clearly understood where they had fallen down and without question indicated the food would comped. It took quite a while for the replacement entree to arrive but when it did it was perfectly prepared and came with a flourish of black truffle. It was good but at the end of the day it was a red meat chop with seasonal veg and some demi. Perhaps I was still disappointed at not getting the tasting menu that we had so very much been looking forward to. The pastry team redeemed the kitchen with a Chevre cheesecake and the Sommelier gave us a couple of small glasses of a delicious dessert wine to finish the meal. Again this was a difficult review to assign a star rating because the food was pretty mid if Im honest but the service from the greeting, to the manager, the server and Sommelier were all top top class. If the food had gotten as close in quality and execution to the service it would be 5+ stars. Not sure well go again
Great service and food. Tasting menu with wine pairing.
Came here on a quiet night with friends - we were made very welcome. Service, food and beverages were on point. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you Hawksworth team!
Been a while since i been to Hawksworth. Decided to join in the lounge with a friend for a bottle of wine. Wine service was good, the Somm came by, the first bottle we wanted, was sold out (there reason for a 4* on service) The follow up wine service was good. The fries were tasty The bartender (French fellow, was on point, friendly, good customer service. The Ambience was good, not to busy, but its expected at this time of the year. Table was good, cleanness on point. Always a treat Hawksworth lounge.
Great luxury restaurant with perfect service in both French and English. They also have diverse stuff, so someone may speak your language if you are a foreigner. Very nice and tasty food, some are with custom presentations. In terms of atmosphere, there could be more space between tables and quieter.
Had the 3 course lunch. Food was just okay. Good value for the price of $36 though. Incredible service and atmosphere
I ordered 2 Christmas set meals with my daughter on 12/24. The meals were not only super unpalatable, even too salty, the food was not hot enough, and the portions were very small. One Christmas set meal actually cost CAD$200. Yuan (excluding tax). Dining at this restaurant is the most regretful meal I have ever had in Vancouver. Dietary restrictions: Parking:
Opting to dine at this establishment within our hotel was a delightful choice. The service was top-notch, with the dedicated staff ensuring an exceptional dining experience. We indulged in the seasonal tasting menu accompanied by a wine pairing, which proved to be a superb combination. While the wagyu dish left room for improvement with its lackluster sear and plain taste, the other dishes were delectable. Special mention goes to their outstanding carrot cake, undoubtedly the best weve had. Additionally, the pleasant surprise of a morning pastry further enhanced our overall impression of the place.
We came here for our anniversary and were given a complimentary glass of wine, which was appreciative and made us feel special, as well as congratulated when we first entered by the host, and when we were greeted by our server. All the staff were very professional. The experience is definitely high end fine dining. The restaurant is located in the hotel Georgia. It is a rectangular restaurant consisting of three rooms, the first is their bar/lounge, and the next two are dining rooms. It is dark, and romantic. I don t think I saw many booths which I personally love but it is quite a small restaurant. We had the wagyu tartare which was absolutely amazing and we felt the portion was worth the price, I would definitely recommend and order this again. We also had oysters to share/start - I would definitely recommend the west coast kusshi oysters, very small but tastier. We did try the east coast oysters as well but did not enjoy them as they were rather bland. For our mains we had the elk chop, and duck breast. We felt both our mains were on the pricier side and could have been bigger portions. Taste wise we would both rate them 7.5. Both dishes were plated beautifully. The elk was juicy and we really liked the kale that the elk came, the red cabbage and parsnip was okay. For the duck breast the skin was crispy and the meat was tender. The cardamom beetroot was okay but we did not like the cabbage pavé. Most of the cocktails are $19 - I had the flamingo, which was okay but I felt it was missing something. I would try something else next time. We would come here again. A fancy place to take a significant other/family or to celebrate a special occasion
My family and I have been coming here since 2014; every menu rotation has been incredible. The service is immaculate as well.
We came to Hawksworth for the first time while downtown and it did not disappoint. The service was exceptional and our waiter made us feel very welcomed. Since we ve never been here before, we opted to try their weekly prix-fixe tasting menu ($36 for 3 courses!) and it was delicious. I especially enjoyed the eggnog and caramelized banana dessert at the end. I can see why this restaurant has been featured in the Michelin guide because both the service and menu choices are impeccable. Also highly recommend the coffee here; they use Caffe Umbria and it s delicious!
Drinks here are delicious. Everything else not so much.
[Features] The restaurant of the famous Canadian chef David Hawksworth has also been recommended by many dining guides. During the meal, it was Thanksgiving in Canada, so the restaurant offered a Thanksgiving turkey set, in addition to the Hawksworth seasonal set. Both set meals come with corresponding food and wine, which is quite good. Among the two set meals, the Hawksworth seasonal set meal performed better. The turkey in the turkey set meal was average. The turkey main meal has three cooking methods, but the three portions are quite separated and do not complement each other. The pork in the seasonal set meal was not satisfactory, and the meat was overcooked, like wood. However, the fish roll is quite delicious, with a mild taste and soup, making it a suitable dinner appetizer to build up anticipation for the main meal. However, a good fine dining should be like beautiful music, with appropriate transitions and transitions. However, the seasonal set menu is as harmonious as Vivaldis four seasons, but when it comes to the main meal, the pork is like a musician with frozen fingers. [Service] The service is in line with the restaurants specifications, and the introduction of the dishes is incisive and stable. Parking: There is a parking tower outside an intersection
Would be nice if it was a bit cheaper!
Hawksworth is a high end restaurant located on the first floor of the hotel Georgia in downtown Vancouver. The food quality is amazing. The menu is designed by well known chef David Hawksworth. The receptionist is very thoughtful and friendly and remembered the details I provided during reservation booking. This is a great place for date nights, anniversary, or any other special occasion. My favourites: wagyu tartare, tenderloin, Brussels sprouts, duck breast and the ice cream on the side of cheesecake. Reason for the 4 star (even though I left a 5 star review): the service can be improved to match the top notch, high end atmosphere.
You have to go. Certainly, one of Vancouver best.
A very meh experience for the price. Special was wildly overpriced for what was served. There were serious issues with the atmosphere and overall experience.
HAWKSWORTH 3-course Lunch Special $36 KUTERRA SALMON TATAKI - This was good, but nothing amazing. Honestly I think I would rather have Otoro Sashimi or something! GRASSFED BEEF BRISKET w/ TRUFFLE GNOCCHI and CELERIAC PUREE - So the beef brisket itself was good, but nothing amazing. It was a bit lean, needed a bit more fat. BUT everything surrounding it made my mouth explode with flavor! The puree was incredible and overall I could eat this dish all day. EGGNOG ICE CREAM w/ BANANA CUSTARD CAKE and CARAMELIZED WALNUTS - Overall this dessert was amazing. But if you are talking solely about the eggnog ice cream, Earnest makes a better one. The caramelized banana was a nice suprise! Im happy that I tried this tasting menu, but dont think I would get it again!
We came in with a large group to celebrate work achievements and were underwhelmed to put it lightly. The food was terrible and unimaginative, the salad needed dressing, and the dessert was low effort. It all seemed like we got the lowest effort possible from what is presumably a 5 star level restaurant. $250 dollars a head without booze is a joke for that food. On top of that, the service was terrible and they barely paid attention to us. I am shocked at the performance here and would never recommend Hawksworth to anyone moving forward. Long time vancouverite here!
Came in for an event. The menu was pre-planned and it didnt account for a vegetarian option, but they added a pasta option. The meal had 4 sections, and all of the plates were low quality, with zero taste. It was highly disappointing, especially for the cost per person at $200+ not including alcohol. The amount of food for the meal equates to less than $10...sesame snack and slivers of granny apple was one of the meals. Absolutely Ridiculous for claiming to be a 5 star restaurant.
We had dinner here about 2 weeks ago and we were shoved into a corner with the outside light blaring in my eye all night. Service was absolutely amazing but food was cold. Portions were super tiny and very overpriced for what we got. Salad was just a bowl of lettuce leaves. Very disappointing won t recommend or go back.
TLDR: my favorite meal on this trip to Vancouver, come for the lunch 3 course menu for great food at a great price The service starting from the beginning was exceptional. They offered to take our costs and our bags for us which was very generous. Got seated and Adema was such an amazing server, she was friendly and patient with our questions. We ordered one three course menu to share and one burger and one extra cheesecake for dessert. Every course was magnificent. The salmon tataki was fresh and well cooked, the brisket fell apart with just a fork and even for me, I enjoyed the celeriac sauce. The banana cake with eggnog ice cream was just right sweetness. The burger was cooked well with the crispiness of the onion ring adding a great texture and the cheesecake had some goat cheese which is a first for me but also tasted fantastic. Hands down I would return for the great food and amazing service, thanks to Adema and the friendly hostess again!!
Sophisticated atmosphere and nice ambient lighting in the main restaurant area. Food was really good!!
Great! Everything is great!
Another great experience of good food and exemplary service at one of our favourite restaurants. The lunch offering was simple and tasty. Portion sizes were perfect. Serving staff are professional and personable without being intrusive. The pace of the meal was excellent....each course was timely, without being rushed. Atmosphere was noisy without retsricting conversation. Dietary restrictions: Able to get gluten-free options without scrificing the quality of the dish. Serving staff knowledgeable about the implications of allergens.
Service is impeccable. Atmosphere is a bit on the noisier side as the ceiling of the restaurant is low. I was disappointed with my main entree of Steelhead when I expected a filet but received cut up tiny slivers of the fish.
1. Great ambience. 2. Awesome staffs 3. Delicious foods 4. Tempting drinks 5. Highly recommended
Service is top notch, however, the food quality is not there. Very salty, and pork is hard to chew and dry . Was expecting more given the price tag
This place never disappoints, the menu is always unique and delicious and the service is top notch.
Buzzy holiday atmosphere. Creative and artfully plated 3 course cuisine. Attentive and friendly service. What an excellent meal.
The tasting menu was stellar!
Terrible food. Terrible and rude staff. The food specifically was like a really bad joke.
Here I enjoyed a seasonal, 3-course meal consisting of the salmon tataki, beef brisket and eggnog ice-cream. The celeniac puree of the brisket was wonderfully creamy. The eggnog ice-cream paired with the caramelized banana was also rich in taste as it was in texture. I was rather disappointed with the tataki as it was clear that no one had inspected the dish prior to leaving the kitchen with one slice being half the portion of the largest. This worries me as it makes it appears that the kitchen may have lapses in their standards of presentation. The taste of the tataki dish was appetizing however. Service was exceptional and our server was welcoming and personable. An overall positive experience with a hint of festivities mixed in.
Alex was an amazing server. Super tasty appetizers and a classy, old-fashioned great vibe, quick service and good ambiance.
Had a beautiful dinner at a fancy resto. Overall everything was amazing!!! Perfect moments and good memories for sure. A little bit loud inside though.
The service from our waiter is not good enough .
Absolutely amazing food and service from start to finish. Will definitely make the effort to book a reservation everything I go to Vancouver
The wagyu beef tartare was to die for! Also had the $36 lunch tasting menu and everything was so perfect. The service was amazing as well. Will definitely recomm3nd this place to my family and friends.
Great service and atmosphere, but the food left something to be desired. We primarily came here to use the Amex dining credit. Elisa was our first choice and would ve been much better taste and heck value than Hawksworth. For the price we paid here we expected much better. Recommend spending your hard earned money elsewhere.
