Loved this restaurant — from the food to the ambience! I had no expectations, but was impressed with the food. I only had room to try 2 dishes but both were good. The duck confit was cooked well, the sauce was rich but balanced with crunch and warm roti on the side. As someone who doesn't love meringue, the meringue was crunchy, delightful and not too sweet. I will definitely be back soon to try the tasting menu.

Color me impressed! Wasn’t expecting much for a $70 tasting menu, but it was absolutely punching above its value. Plating was nicely done, and the flavors were spot on. Above all the service was absolutely brilliant.

Had the tasting menu with a group of 10 and everything was amazing. Each dish so good and a variety of tastes and textures. Same as the Omakase, but a bit cheaper cuz we were a big group. Great value actually as we were all stuffed and very impressed. Favourite items were the halibut and risotto, braised beef cheeks, and the mushroom udon. But damn everything was super tasty.

I went to Torafuku for a tasting menu dinner for two, priced at $70 CAD per person. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. The dishes lacked flavor and were served cold, almost as if they were just defrosted before being brought out. Even the ‘hot’ dishes weren’t even served warm. The biggest letdown was the duck risotto—the risotto was bland, and the duck was tough with chewy skin and an unpleasant smell. After just one bite each, we had to send it back. Service was decent, but when it came time to pay, they charged us the full price, despite not having the duck dish. Given our experience and the dish that wasn’t consumed, I don’t think that was fair. For half the price i think there are better restaurants available in Vancouver. Overall, not an experience I’d recommend.

My wife and I each ordered the $70 anniversary tasting menu. What a disappointment. The portion sizes for two people were totally absurd. We constantly wondered why they only brought out one knife/spoon/fork even though two people were eating. As for the food…the sashimi (amberjack?) Was excellent in the coconut milk. The heirloom tomatoes needed more salt The beef tartare was well presented, but a tad more salt needed The duck breast and octopus were the highlights The final seafood piece was one bite worth of halibut wrapped in a prawn/scallop thing. The fish was dry and it was disappointing to only get one bite.. The dessert was on point and at least made the ending of the meal a bit better Overall, I would not come back for the value proposition. My wife and I agreed we could get 5 entrees somewhere else and feel full vs this one tasting menu.and still want a hamburger at the American beside torafuku

Truly deserving of a Michelin rated restaurant. The 1/2 is what I ordered half roasted pork belly and half fried chicken on rice! Yum! The beef noodle soup was divine.

Torafuku is a gem of a pan-Asian restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the pork and chicken bowl—the meat was crispy tender and flavorful, perfectly seasoned to bring out its rich taste. The cracker salad was a delightful mix of textures, with a satisfying crunch that complemented the fresh ingredients. And the burnt cheesecake? Absolutely divine—creamy with a beautifully caramelized top that added a subtle smokiness to each bite paired with blueberry sauce on the side. Service was excellent by the way. I also had the yuzu lemon sparkling drink, which paired wonderfully with the meal, adding a refreshing citrusy note that balanced the richness of the dishes. I’ve been here many many times… dine in and take-out. So far so good. So, if you’re looking for a place that offers inventive and delicious pan-Asian cuisine, Torafuku is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back. Suggestion: Hopefully they’ll come up with something new as I’ve been ordering pretty much same same food with only a limited selection on the menu. (I might eventually get bored even with good food).

Came here to celebrate a birthday. Food was good overall but some dishes lacked flavor, their cheesecake and cocktails were delicious tho! Giving four stars because service was extremely slow - they took more than 30 minutes to take our drinks order after we told them we needed a few minutes to check the menu :(

My favourite restaurant in Vancouver! Literally every single cocktail is amazing (greenlambo is life changing tho!), the food is great and the prices are sooo reasonable for the quality. Recently discovered their awesome lunch menu too. And their happy hour is legit! We came for lunch a little while ago and stayed through happy hour and into dinner lol. The vibe is really laid back which I appreciate! Also its easy to get a reso on short notice or just walk in

This restaurant is not located in a particularly nice part of Vancouver, however once inside, that all goes away. This Asian Fusion restaurant serves creative dishes and offers a tasting menu several times a year. However the table settings are less than desirable, unless you score a booth. The rest of the seating happens along a long community table. While this works to get more people in the restaurant, there seems ot be too big a difference between the booths and the concrete community table. And sitting at a concrete table while watching others at a booth is a little distracting. On this occassion, the tasting menu was not top notch. The tuna tartare was rather tasteless, the breaded fried cod was a little overdone and the cheese cake desert was just OK. I have been to the restaurant when you could order a la carte and there are several dishes that are much better than this particular tasting menu. So my recommendation is to go with 3 or 4 people, ask for a booth and go when there is an a la carte option. Everything should then be perfect.

Atmosphere was 0/10 -- really shocked at the lack of obeisance of this place. My group had a nice dinner tasting all the different dishes as a shared experience, so that was fun. The meals were quite out of the ordinary so we appreciate that. But honestly for the price of the food there should be a minimum standard for esthetics to the place. Dining experience is a visual experience in a dish and as much in the place. Good luck guys, but a upgrade would be needed for me to recommend this place

We had dined here before for the February Dine-Out event, and all the food we tried was amazing. I was so pleasantly surprised. This time we went with the fall tasting menu which was $70 per person. I was okay with the price and even the small portion sizes; however unfortunately this time the taste didnt match up to the price. The taste was okay; and the portion sizes were too small. Some of the portions were small enough to be for one. The sashimi and the dessert was great; however the sashimi came in small 5 pieces. I at least would hope for an even number to share. The tasting menu feels like a way for the restaurant to make a lot of money by promising 7 courses and lots of fancy ingredients. The service was super nice. I may go for the dine-out event again; but otherwise I likely wont be back.

Alright, Ill confess: I came here for my 4th anniversary with my girlfriend, and we had a blast! The beef noodle soup was spectacular, and rich in umami flavours that were simply inspiring. I felt like I wanted to make some beef noodles after that soup. The decor is modern and clean. Not the greatest but a humble sleek apparel to dine at is never a bad thing. The wait time was great, the food came out before I could say food 4 times fast. Just kidding, but it came out pretty fast, you get the idea. By the way, the people were nice, and choice of music was great too. Not a lot to say, definitely deserving of its Michelin Recommendation!

Sooooo disappointing! Ever since I read the latest Michelin list reviews for Vancouver I wanted to try this place. Well, that did not happen. And not for the lack of trying. Just about 30 minutes ago, at around 4:45 pm we walked into the front door of Torafuku. The place was empty, but it was open. We were informed that the lunch menus that we found on our table are no longer available because now it s happy hour. And we were advised to scan the QR code and download the actual menu. Well we did that and it turned out on the website that in fact, it was happy hour till 530. We inquired about that, and we re told that no, happy hour is only till 5 o clock(it was 5 min to 5 pm at that time) and the happy hour was only for drinks. We said look, your website says 5:30 and it says food is available for happy hour as well. The poor girl didn t know what to say so she went to the back to consult with whoever was running the place. When she came back, she was very embarrassed and informed us that no, nothing was available except for drinks even though the website said so and no, they were not flexible and not interested in serving us. What would you do? I know what we did. We got up and left. Two doors down there is a very welcoming place called Bodega. They were happy to see us and even though a lot of tables were reserved they found a place for us to sit and enjoy our food. Highly recommend.

Window Dressing Last night six of us went to Torafuku for dinner 7:00 pm reservation . We arrived a few minutes early (the Vancouver traffic gods were kind to us) and we were promptly seated in an empty restaurant . Torafuku was highly reccomended to us by a friend who manages a well regarded Vancouver restaurant. Now with the exception of another couple sitting in the back corner, the restaurant was empty. We were seated (jammed into) in the booth right by the front window. With three of us over 6 feet tall these booths would fit 4 adults. My wife and I ordered the Tasting Menu, the other four ordered a la carte The tasting menu was basically thrown at us to the degree it was comical. The waitress noticed that we were a plate behind when she was serving us the third course and said would you like me to slow down the kitchen? We said yes and she immediately returned a minute later with our next course. Think Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger. Note to reader: The food delivery (not service) never slowed down. Things soon got more interesting when the filthiest street person I have ever seen (and I have worked downtown for decades ) complete with bottle bags wandered into the restaurant and went to the back. Hopefully the restaurant is either feeding these people or saving their refundable bottles for them. I was glad to see that the gentleman was treated with dignity and not rushed back out the front door. Kudos to the restaurant for that. The food. Our tasting menu was at best mediocre, with the exception of the duck breast which was both tough and tasteless, and left plateside. The fried chicken that was ordered by one of the other guests and shared by the table bettered every item on the tasting menu. At 7:45 our waitress asked us if we wanted to order anything else because the restaurant was closing early. Since we had arrived I hadnt seen another person arrive for dinner That was a first. Dont let the door hit you on the way out. It was all they could do to get us out the door. Why Window Dressing, for the title of my review. The six of us were intentionally jammed into that window booth to give the appearance to the street that the restaurant had customers. It was clear that our dining comfort was sacrificed to give the apperance that the restaurant was busy. This was not our first meal at a Michelin mentioned, or Starred restaurant, and quite frankly in this case the tire was flat.

Just so good. We took a tip from an earlier reviewer and sat at the bar so we could watch the kitchen - perfect theatre. The food was sublime. The staff were sweet and attentive. I see some reviews say the staff were slow but perhaps thats in keeping with restaurants elsewhere in the world where the focus is enjoying your food and not being hurried or jollied along. We found the staff lovely and cant wait to go back. If you can: go!

Beautiful space with open kitchen; creative plates. Had the fish collar, chicken wings and tempura mushroom off the Happy hour menu; elegent and reasonably priced for having a snack but would be hard to have a full meal at a reasonable price. Also had the Kanpai Negroni off the cocktail menu: the Chrysanthemum overpowers the other ingredients. Great place for an afternoon drink and snack, but may want to go elsewhere to get full. Would have preferred if the beef noodle soup was available for dinner

I started the meal with a yuzu lemonade and the Maitake mushroom tempura. The tempura was out of this world good. Crispy batter, an excellent togarashi seasoning, and the mushroom was hella flavourful. For my entree, I opted for the 1/2 Rice Bowl . Half Kakuni Pork Belly and half fried chicken sitting on top of rice cooked with sake, butter, and dashi. I really enjoyed the layout of the restaurant, being able to look into the kitchen and see items being prepared. The food was delicious and I look forward to coming back for dinner for the more expanded menu.

Owner and chef Steve Kuan has developed highly addictive Asians dishes using Pacific Northwest ingredients, but always staying true to Taiwanese and Chinese traditions. At lunch, you will find mostly noodles and rice, but a dinner there is also room for more sophisticated mains. At lunch, the signature dish is Torafuku Beef Noodle Soup with sake braised beef shank, 72 hours beef broth, hand-pulled noodles, bok choy, soft poached marinated egg, and pickled mustard. Simply put, this is the best noodle soup dish of my life, and the best dish I ve ever had in Vancouver.

The 7 course tasting menu is not 7 courses and is very misleading. There are 4 appetizers, however, the main and the dessert are shared, and the portions are small (needed a burger after). On top of that, one of the dishes is the side to the main, in our case, two bao buns for two people for their main dinner course. Food taste wise was okay, the best dish was the tartar and wasn t amazing. The beef rib was cooked poorly, and was gristly. Really it s 4.5 courses. Service wise, the courses were not planned well at all. People were getting dishes in different orders, we had to ask for a course they forgot and then they just double stacked the missing appetizers.

Spice Up Your Life with Torafukus Culinary Magic! Upon entering Torafuku, the clean, minimalist interior immediately struck a chord, offering a serene canvas that complemented the meals vibrant flavors. The spaces simplicity and elegance were as thoughtfully curated as the dishes themselves. Opted for their Beef Noodle Soup and I Love Dumpling - a true delight, with the Beef Noodle Soup broths symphony of flavors rich and sweet, elevating every sip to a memorable experience. The Kanpai Negroni, recommended to enhance the dining experience, perfectly complemented the meal, adding a sophisticated touch to the hearty dishes. The restaurants commitment to minimalism not only in its culinary approach but also in its decor, created an ambiance of understated elegance. Had so much hype about this place but ended up being just a bit disappointing, I went there for lunch to check it out before jumping into the dinner menu as i was looking for a nice cozy place for an special occasion. I ordered the burrata, the hiramasa fish collar, dumplings, and the 1/2 rice to start. The server came back saying that they didnt have the collar or burrata, and when I asked her what she likes the most or what should we get instead, I realized she didnt know the menu enough to guide us through or makes order more, I decided to stick with the rice bowl and dumplings to start because at that point I wasnt convinced 100%, cocktails were good, the rice was definitely a day old and not fully warm as it had a grainy texture and seems they forgot the dumplings because it took 25min after we got the rice bowl (the place almost empy) I attached a picture of how I got the dumplings and a picture of the dumplings I saw here and on Instagram that made me go for it, after I saw them I decided to head somewhere else which was also a Michelin recommended restaurant close by that really lived up to the expectations. Overall, it was a poor experience, perhaps an off day, idk.

Went for dine out Vancouver tonight and a bit disappointed. The only option for the cook of the steak was Medium Rare which is what we wanted but it came to the table very rare. I did tell them but they were SO busy that I didn t ask them to fix it. The sous vide duck was SUPER dry, hard to eat. The kale salad was super dry with almost no dressing. The Brussels salad and fried rice was amazing but small. Overall we paid $65 each plus tax and shared every dish and most of the dishes were disappointing. The fact that I couldn t eat part of the steak and didn t even get any discount was very disappointing. I went there when they first opened and it was beyond amazing and has since gone down hill. But maybe it was dine out Vancouver that lowered the standards? So we both paid $100 each and weren t impressed.

Well what can I say ? Overall food is not that great. Over priced for sure. Atmosphere is ok. Service is ok. Not sure why people give such a high rating for this restaurant. #fakereview or #fakefoodie. We ordered a kale salad, mussel, magic mushroom, Japanese milk bun and blackcod. Kale salad is a bit salty. Mussel is the only dish that is good. Magic mushroom is gross . The taste is too acidic, not balanced. It was chinese rice cake with a twist. Once you mixed the cheese in the soup, it is not appetizing at all. I said soup because all of the water coming from the veggies. Blackcod is lacking salt. Tasting menu is what they hand you when you sit down, they charge 70$ per person for a 7 course menu . It s basically 4 appetizers, one main(shared as well), and a dessert. They don t give you an alacarte menu so you would have to look it up yourself. Being first time visitors we thought the tasting menu would be a good choice. Portions were on the small size , if you break the pricing down for two people you share 60$ worth of appetizers , 60$ worth of one main and 20$ dessert which is quite a rip off considering the portions they serve you. Place is cramped, server was stuttering , and when we asked for water she just about took the other customers beside us to give us and realized she was not supposed to be doing that. Lastly by the end of the night our stomach felt off , my suspicion are the mussels they served. Overall the food they served were in between decent and good. We opted to come here due to the Michelin recommendation, but that apparently doesn t really mean much. Four stars for food , 3 for atmosphere, 3 for service. Overall underwhelming experience and wouldn t be returning, there are far better choices.

February 23, 2024

I went in with high expectations because everyone raves about this place but was disappointed. We did the $70 per person tasting menus, the food was sub-par, tiny portions to share. Only the drinks were tasty so I ll give credit where credit is due. But my god. The worst is the service - while eating dessert, they came up to us twice while I was mid bite to ask if we are done and if we d like the dessert to be packed. What kind of poor service is this? Nobody was waiting at the door. We don t have a seating time - weren t even over 2 hours yet. Just poor! How they landed on the Michelin guide eluded me. Not worth the money or the hype.

★★★
February 23, 2024

Price point for what you re paying here isn t quite worth it in terms of portion size, service, and overall experience. The seating is family style which I thought was unique and the open kitchen concept is nice until you are waiting very long for your food. In between our appetizers, we contemplated asking for the bill as 45 minutes had gone by before our entrees came. The staff was nice, but did not check in to let us know food was on the way or to even pour water. For appetizers, we ordered the brussel sprouts, which was decent, but very one dimensional in flavour. It also contained more of other things than actual brussel sprouts. The cornbread is amazing, I recommend that if you visit. For entrees, we ordered fried rice and the ny striploin. Both of which were good but average. We had a few drinks as well. At their price point, you can definitely find other Asian-fusion restaurants with better food and overall experience.

At $65, it offers fantastic value, and we d like to extend our kudos to both the front of house and back of house teams for their friendly, efficient, and genuine service. A special tip: if you re dining in a small group, consider sitting at the bar. It s a great spot to watch the culinary action unfold, which my wife and I particularly love (having just finished watching The Bear , it was a real treat). Highly recommended

Food was decent but overpriced. Found most dishes quite salty. We made reservations in advance but was given a terrible table with the most uncomfortable stools ever. Just imagine they have a full house for service of course we were polite but to a certain point don t have an open service if you re going to have a slow service another thing is, once our orders were taken, the menus weren t even removed from our table and the water ran empty for a while before they were replaced with new bottles other than the food arriving late, the dishes were good but slightly cold it s kind of jarring that they kind of force their tasting menu that isn t very interesting in the first place and their lack of options for a la carté just doesn t satisfy most people for the price I don t recommend coming here

Wow! Recommended by Fairmont Pacific Rim Concierge. As usual, great recommendation! 5 hungry, gourmet food loving adults were pleasantly surprised by the 7-course Omakase Tasting Menu Dinner. $70./person +tax+tip. Appetizers: Bison Tartare, Burrata salad, Mussels were all excellent! Mains: Duck & Black Miso Cod with accompanying starch (Pain au Lait & steamed Bai buns w side of Foie gras) were perfectly done with great taste sensations. Use the bread & Bao bun to dip into the sauce &/or make a wrap! Dessert: Basque Cheesecake was the best.Crème Caramel & Chocolate Ganache were also very good. The ambience was minimalist but comfortable. It could use a bit more warmth or ambience . Service was fantastic & flexible. We finished at 10pm (past their closing time but never felt rushed). The dessert was the highlight for us - you get a whole basque cheesecake as an option and it s so creamy with a hint of citrus flavour! So yummy. The cocktails were amazing, too. I wish they didn t have multiple servers coming over to your table to serve you cause at the end when I had to go to the washroom, my boyfriend ended up paying the bill as the server brought the machine to him :/ another server knew it was his birthday so they wished him a happy birthday.

The Chef Tasting Menu is highly recommended. Starters: Mussels (5/5) - Fresh, the miso butter is to die for, I almost licked the plate to the last drop. Bison Tartar (5/5) - melt in the mouth texture, comes with fried wonton wrapper to scoop everything in. Rice crisp are a fun surprise in the texture. Hiramasa Crudo (5/5) - citrusy, Gingery and again melt in your mouth soft texture. I need more than an appy size for this one. Burrata Salad (4/5) - Fresh salad and Burrata. Mains: Black Cod (5/5) The tomato dashi broth can be scooped up with the dinner rolls. Highly recommended wiping the plate clean, fennel adds an extra freshness to the already tasty broth - Cod was well done and soft. Desserts: Magic Stick. (5/5) The Praline leaf was delicately done, milk chocolate mousse and dark chocolate ganache was a good combo! Such intricate cooking and taste combinations is what makes this place amazing. Love the lunch rice bowls as well, super filling. I got mistakenly given the magic mushrooms recently, and sadly found them really horrifying. Came here for my anniversary today and the service was at par at most. Wasnt sure if our server had much experience. She kept dropping our food and walks away with no explanation but the dish name. I asked if I could have my meal; 2 appetizers and 2 entrees at the same time which she responded with it will take long and the table doesnt have much room. No worries, we get our first appetizers within 5 minutes of order and after we finished we got our 2nd appetizer. The server brought both our entrees while we were still working on the last appetizer. When everything was brought out, it would have definitely all fit on the table. Asked for salt as the food lacked some, and was given a judgmental look. Food was a solid 3.5/5. We really enjoyed the cocktail and it was definitely the star of the night. The set menu wasnt worth it in our opinion, picking off a la cart was not only cheaper but we got everything we wanted to try. We enjoyed the Brussels Sprouts dish, it came with cauliflower and broccoli as well, with crispy quinoa. The vegetables were cooked just right and not burnt. The stuffed prawn mousse in the zucchini blossom was delightful. Our final dish was Magic Mushroom 2.0 which came in a thick broth. Dessert was another story the dark chocolate ganache was too dense and so sweet that I wish I hadnt allowed it in my stomach, the graham crust was like melamine. The service was excellent and each dish was timed perfectly. We will be back, but not necessary with friends as there wasnt enough variety of dishes for a table of four to have an exciting sharing time.

The service here is great until theres an issue, at which point the server very quickly shut me down after I mentioned that the chicken leg was pink and tasted raw, saying it couldnt possibly be raw since they sous-vided it for two hours. If your chicken tastes and looks raw, for the price youre asking, its not a good dish and you should serve something thats actually appetizing. The rest of the dishes were nice, but there are better options for omakase in town. I dont know why I tipped. Spent $200 in total.

Potato salad has Asian inspired flavours. My favorite is the pork. Chicken is tender and everything else was good. Street parking, paid.

Torafuku is an exceptional dining experience. I want to highlight their bartender first. My partner and I were not going to order any drinks when we went until we saw how interesting and delicious they sounded. We ordered the O my Sake, and it was the best sake cocktail i have ever had. It also looked beautiful, truly a great experience for all senses. The Roasted Beets and Kanpachi Crudo were easily the best dishes we had. Im not sure how they made walnuts taste fluffy, but it was phenomenal. The sauce used for the Kanpachi Crudo was perfect, smokey and buttery, full of umami. Although the service could have been better, this is the perfect restaurant is you want high class food in a small, intimate setting. Vegetarian options: They have some great veggie options available.

Decent restaurant. I would recommend not getting the omakase because it only comes with 1 entree and 1 dessert for TWO people. For 1 person, I would suggest just getting a-la-carte 2 appetizers, 1 entree and skip the dessert as it was underwhelming. My favourite was the mushroom dish and bison tar tar.

Huge portion of chicken, the batter is really tasty (you might need a to-go box). Great spice tang on the sauce. Service was pretty quick and you are able to get in and out on a lunch hour.
