It was delicious and the server was friendly. I usually order karaage or gyoza while eating ramen. It was a pity that they ran out of karaage ingredients and that orders could not be placed at the time.

This is my actual top favourite ramen place in Vancouver. Their shio ramen is a classic. The eggs are perfectly poached and marinated. The noodles aren t too thin. Perfect balance of salt and fat in the broth. And this is going to sound niche but the way they serve their Diet Coke is top tier. They give you a cold glass filled with little ice cube pebbles. The glass is actually hefty. It s a nice glass. They give you the can so you can pour the amount you want without diluting completely. All in all, I love this place. Gyoza are bomb too.

One of the servers seemed very grumpy and I couldnt enjoy my ramen. There was no word from beginning to end when I paid the bill, and I didnt even say a single word of thanks. It was very unpleasant. Please quit quickly.

I had shio ramen and it was rich and delicious because it was based on pork bone broth! I ordered a small size and it was perfect since I ate all the soup. Good, good There was also a happy hour ramen set menu.

Creamy broth in the shio ramen and I particularly enjoyed the cream soda!

The meat went bad already. We asked if we can change to any rice bowl. The waitress didn t understand the meaning of went bad . She told me it s food. Sry. Can t return . My mom went to washroom couple times after with 3 bites of noodle. It s the only time I paid $1 tip with $45 dollars order. Plus I lost my brand new Zara top there with no customers at that time. It had been my favorite restaurant in Vancouver for 15 years. I would never return.

It was very good. We will be back. Just we have had better ramen in Japan. But this is very good.

Although it s not my first option when looking for ramen, I like how efficient they serve and prepare for ramen noodles. Today I ordered their spicy tsuke-men with additional portion and 5 pieces of gyoza, it s so good! My friend ordered the shio ramen combo and it s also so worthy! If you come across a long line at other ramen places and don t know where else to go, please come to Santouka cus it s relatively cheap and delicious I also highly recommended getting their umeshu (plum wine) and you will thank me later cus it s so tasty!

Bad service. Bored and rude waitress. Average food. Not a pretty place either so wouldn t come here for the vibe. All round not great.

Worst service. One Japanese female elderly person (Monday about 1pm). Really bad. Even didnt want to pay tip becuz of that person. She ignored me totally although I asked water. We had eyecontacts and she ignored 3 times dont know why Waiting for ice cream for 20mins also. She just doesnt like working.

Delicious ramen, ice-cream melon soda and nice staff, even when its busy! I highly recommend this place.

Both ramen we ordered tasted like dish washing liquid or bleach. We tried taking out the menma since it has the strongest taste of washing liquid, but the noodle still ate inedible for us. We asked and paid the bill without eating, and the server didnt say anything when we mentioned the food tasted like washing liquid. Another server rushed in to take the untouched noodles away without asking what was wrong with them or asking if we wanted to pack them to-go. As far as I can tell, both of them didnt check with the kitchen or the manager afterwards, even though the manager was only two tables away. Horrible food, and even worse service.

Shantou Huo not only has delicious noodles and delicious soup, but also its rice is fragrant and delicious. I can finish a bowl of ramen and then eat fish egg rice, which is his set meal. I m so happy now that I don t have to queue up

We came at the tail end of the lunch rush on a Friday and we didn t have to wait too long. This is one of the best places for ramen. My group ordered Tsukumen, Shio and Kara-Miso ramen, all of the ramen bowls had amazing and very good quality soup. I have to say it s like liquid gold we would definitely come back here.

This place has never let me down. My go to spot for vegetarian ramen in Vancouver. Broth is soy milk based and so so creamy. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian ramen with soy milk broth.

One of my favourite ramen places in Vancouver. Portions are a bit small, but the noodles and broth go together so well. The noodles are on the thicker end (which I prefer!).

This place can get busy with a long line to get in. Luckily, I was able to come into an empty restaurant, but I can see why people come here. Overall, the ramen and the atmosphere geat experience.

I first visited Santouka around a decade ago and have stopped by regularly whenever I m downtown. The restaurant can get quite busy and you can end up sitting fairly close to strangers. In terms of food, their ramen overall was excellent - very rich soup base, perfectly done noodles, and the best char siu. The Shio and Char Siu ramen are all worth trying and I d give them 9/10.

Tasty ramen, good service. Ventilation was a bit loud, but I m sure they need it to keep cool in the kitchen, so I hope they can afford a new quieter system sometime.

I found this joint since 2013 and I kept coming back for Shio ramen ever since. Super creamy soup-less saltier than miso. Gyozas are a must order. The service there is also superb. Theres always a minimum 15-20 mins line-up so dont go when you are super hungry. Im literally an 11 years old loyal customer

Good noodles. I actually enjoyed the grilled salmon on rice even more, though. Ive like my experience at other Santouka locations, but this one doesnt seem to have good service. Coupled with a basic environment means this place doesnt compete well with other great, similar restaurants on the same block.

A little disappointed in the ramen. Noodles were a little undercooked for me and bamboo shoots very much undercooked.

Food taste good but service is none and you cant even order extra noodle.. this is the only place I went that does not allow extra noodle.

Was craving for ramen during my short business trip here in Vancouver and was just looking around for any good ramen place. Came here on Saturday at noon, no line at the door and was able to sit at the bar table right away. Had a small Kara Miso ramen with side order of fish cake. It was pretty awesome, like the texture of the noodles and the broth was just the way I like it, it was spicy but not to the point it makes you leave the broth in the bowl. Customer service was just about average, nothing to complain. I sure will come back for more in the future.

Broth is little too salty, but salt and lard are customizable, so take that however u will. Noodles and toppings are very good though, just a bit pricey considering other cheap ramen alternatives like danbo or kintarou My friend also got abdominal pain after eating, not sure why but I was completely ok so Im still giving 4 stars cuz who cares bout him Wheelchair accessibility: The halls are quite narrow, so it might be hard to fit for fat people considering the obesity levels in north america

Authentic Japanese service and Ramen.

Ordered a kara miso ramen with slices of pork for $19.90. The broth was rich, spicy but not to the point that it was intolerable; probably my favourite part. The noodles were cooked well and tasted great. The meat was soft, but could have tasted more flavourful, especially considering how I was paying extra. We ordered gyoza, which was 5 pieces for $8. Everything on the menu is pricey, considering the smaller portions. The atmosphere is friendly and staff were welcoming.

Love their broth! I have tried several ramen store in Vancouver, and Ramen Santouka is definitely one of the top 3 even though you cannot adjust the firmness of the noodle, I like it the way they served it, a little bit firm just like how Japanese people enjoy it. Location is great, will recommend everyone who s craving for Ramen after shopping at downtown.

It was so good! I had the shouyu ramen and it was so excellent. Also I greatly appreciate that the regular size is not humongous like other ramen places. And there was no line to get so thats a huge plus. Totally recommend!

I didnt realize this was some sort of franchise at first, but nevertheless you will not be disappointed. Lets start with the great service by having the waitress checking on me frequent enough not to be disruptive of my meal. The food seems to have the seal of approval from locals as I saw many Japanese people while I was there, including a couple of old guys next t ok me; and in fact ordered what they did (just to be safe). Price seems to be average of what you would expect in the area as I checked two other Ramen places at walking distance from this one. I would certainly come back just to have again the gohan with salmon and misu ramen.

I had the tonkotsu and ikura don combo. The best and I was stuffed.

The taste was okay, but since I found a really good ramen place nearby, it didnt quite meet my expectations. It was a bit greasy and the waiter said the shio ramen was the main dish, but it had a slightly fishy taste so I preferred the shoyu ramen. The large size is quite large and I recommend it if you like heavy ramen.

There limited seats and pathways that are quite narrow, but their ramen is really good! They offer a smaller bowl of ramen (-$1) and a larger sized bowl (+$1) as well as combos with rice bowls as well. The servers are kind and always attentive. Luckily we went here when it wasn t as busy so over we had a pleasant experience.

It is a more or less small place, a little seedy by Spanish standards, but the food is really good. The miso ramen was very good.

I was craving ramen and saw some good reviews for this place. Overall it was average. It was a busy evening so compared to other restaurants in the city, we could get seated quickly despite a full restaurant. However, we were seated at a massive table with many other parties - which is fine, however 2 more people could not fit and we were uncomfortable. While it is great they get butts in seats fast, we were comfortable waiting. We needed up moving to a different table with ease. Service was efficient and pleasant. We ordered the gyoza, I had the Miso Ramen and my partner had the Shoyu. Gyoza satisfied the craving! Miso ramen was tasty, noodles were good and toppings were fresh. The pork was chewy and not tender. The Miso ramen was okay, it was more salty than other miso ramens I ve had and it had a different aftertaste. Broth a bit fattier than the average ramen. Just not my preference. My partner enjoyed the Shoyu. I would recommend this place for a good bowl of ramen and to satisfy the craving, however I found another nearby restaurant that met more of my preferences.

The broth was decent but I was not sure about the noodle .felt different from the one in Japan. What I liked a lot was great variety of gohan/don combo options. Cha-shu and Ikura are my favorites.

Great ramen and fast service! I had the toroniku miso ramen and the pork was delicious and the broth was rich albeit a bit too salty for me but its because I went for the miso broth. My friends had the shio broth and it was a little more subtle. Overall, great noodles!

Santouka is probably my favorite ramen spot in the city. Even though it s a chain, chains can be amazing and the quality really Carrie s through all locations. I typically order their special and get an order of gyoza. The pork jowl is one of the best parts of meat and they way it s made here is spectacular.

Wow! With all the great options in the area, Im amazed this place gets more than 3 stars. The broth was bland and one dimensional. Had the spicy and the shio. Eggs were cold, pale, and barely marinated. The place was filthy. It was midday, no customers and looking into the kitchen and storage area was appalling . It merits 3.5 stars, but no one reads average reviews. Oh and Ive been to hokkaido 3X and eat ramen every chance I get...this is not hokkaido ramen

First time visiting Canada. We picked this restaurant because of the good rating. We were seated immediately. Server was friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. We both ordered the Tokusen toroniku ramen with the spicy miso broth.

There are four basic flavors of ramen. You can choose salt, soy sauce, miso, and spicy. You can also choose fat or lean meat slices. The attitude of the service staff is quite good! The fried dumplings are also quite delicious!

I googled cheap place to eat and this came up. I looked at reviews and thought I would try it. It was ok but it certainly is not what I would call cheap. A bowl of mostly noodles, 2 small thin pieces of meat and a measly 3 gyoza s for $25. Not cheap and not impressed.

This is a story from 2015. When I went on a business trip to Canada, I went there for ramen after my first dinner in Vancouver. I remember being relieved to be able to experience a nostalgic taste in an unfamiliar place overseas.

Food was good, no AC in the place, pretty hot.

On a cooler day we found ourselves wanting something warm for our tummies so we ended up at Hokkaido Ramen Santouka . Vegan Ramen Kara Miso Ramen Miso Ramen The Miso Ramen and Kara Miso Ramen werent bad but compared with other Ramen that weve tried, they werent great either. We were here with some visitors from the UK though; compared with what they have in the UK, this was very good Ramen to them. My Vegan Ramen on the other hand, was wonderful! The broth was flavorful, and I loved the option of having Kale noodles in it! For a Vegan Ramen dish, I am tempted to say that this is on par with the Vegan Ramen at Ramen Danbo, which is my current favourite for Ramen . I think Ramen Danbo still has the upper edge as they have more variety of vegan offerings on their menu, other than their Vegan Ramen. At Ramen Santouka the Vegan Ramen seems to be the only Vegan offering on their menu. If they added a Vegan gyoza to their menu, I might have troubles deciding between the two! I went there because the Danbo lines were a 45-minute wait. Overall, I liked it, but it wasnt as good as Danbo or Jinya. The price was standard. The flavor was good. However, I didnt like the eggs for some reason, even though I usually love ramen eggs. The noodles were great with a good texture. The broth wasnt as creamy as I was expecting. The meat was very fatty, which is what I liked the least. The service was very good and fast. I think my 3-star rating is mostly due to the meat, egg, and lack of creaminess in the broth.

Awesome food

I will say that this place seems very authentic. The staff were super nice and looked to have really good work ethic. We got a miso based ramen and it was pretty good. We usually have shoyu most places but I love anything spicy so we tried something new. Great flavor, good broth. Not super spicy so if you want a little bit of spice this bowl would be nice to try. Hopefully will be back to try other things. Also enjoyed the matcha beer. Not too shabby.

Ikura, Salmon Gohan was exceptional! Exceptional restaurant with great service! Food is all top notch.

We walked around the area trying to figure out which ramen place we liked for lunch. We chose Hokkaido and were very pleased. We arent ramen experts by any means, but to us, this place was great. We chose the Shio and Miso ramen with extra veggies and green onions. The regular serving size was a perfect amount (we didnt finish all the noodles). The noodles and toppings were fresh, bouncy, and the broth...oh my was it good. We sat at the bar, and as we were there, the communal table filled up, as did the remaining tables. The service was attentive and they answered all of our questions. They also kept our water glasses full while we ate.

While more expensive than other ramen shops on Robson, HRS delivers on depth of broth flavour. The staff are warm and highly organized. We were greeted by staff while waiting in a long but fast-moving line outside. Before we knew it, we were seated, and delicious ramen was delivered with a smile. I left feeling even happier than when I arrived.

Overall - as someone who s lived in Japan for a year, and also had Santouka ramen in Boston, USA, I cannot recommend this store because of its undermining food quality. Atmosphere - crowded without line-up outside on a Sunday 1:30pm. Business is good Service - staffs are Japanese, greeted with smile, made you feel welcomed - menu was given before seated - provided ice water as default drink - food was delivered around 10-15min after placed order - did not check the experience verbally during the meal - check & payment with efficiency (cash/card/Apple Pay available) Food - I ordered Tsuke-men, with added tofu, and boiled vegetables, because it s a drizzling chilly day. - kata-men (hard noodles)+watery and salty broth with hard-boiled egg and over marinated chopped cha-shu. - Tsuke-men s broth is supposed to be dense, with not overly salty cha-shu, and most importantly, hard boiled egg should never be the standard in a ramen store. Although I have not tried their regular ramens, I would hesitate to come back. A ramen restaurant is always judged by its broth, noodles, meat, and eggs. Hope this helps.

Delicious food with fast friendly service.

Ive had some great ramen in my life. This is not one of those times. Came with a few local friends as we were in town, and none of the 4 of us could finish. There is just something.. off. The vegetarian ramen was a real let down and very unappealing - we had to dig for the noodles under a mountain of vegetables. Perhaps we came on an off day? But either way, its very expensive for the quality we received.

Delicious Shio tonkotsu ramen always tastes perfect. It s aromatic sesame taste with its signature shio (salt) is so addictive. The Hojicha Pudding was really creamy with strong tea flavour - perfect treat for summer.

Satouka has been my favorite ramen for ages.

It s been a long time since my last visit. We got in at 12:45pm. No line up. Ordered miso ramen and asked for hard noodles and low sodium option that they indicate on the menu. Decent ramen except the soup base is very salty.

I cannot explain how good this place is. Ive been going here for a decade and it is amazing. They have the best ramen EVER. I am never disappointed. The texture, mouth feel, taste, spice flavor EVERYTHING is perfect. The ramen has very thick broth which gives it a thick texture and adds to the flavor of it. The toriniku is the best Ive ever had. I tried making them at home and it wasnt nearly as good. If you live in Vancouver and you havent visited this place you are missing out. The only reason to go here is because on a Saturday evening at 930 pm practically all other Ramen places are closed and Danbo Ramen up the steet had a very long queue (Affordable and Good). We would not recommend the Ramen here, our party of Ramen aficionados tried a variety of different flavours and everyone was disappointed. Service was OK and atmosphere was OK too, but noodles were much too hard and broth flavours not good, bordering on bad.

I have tried i believe all there ramens on the menu, and they are all superb, they come out with seasonal flavors as well, broths are clean complex smooth creamy, noodles are springy, chewy, they have a great gyazo and beer combo.. oh and the service is always top notch
