Love this place! The staff is so kind. The owner Iain is the best and really cares about all his patrons. Beef tartar was 12/10. My sherry cocktail was very nice as well. A little gem downtown!

The restaurant itself is fantastic – the atmosphere is lively, and the setting is truly enjoyable. The food was excellent, showcasing creativity and quality in every dish. However, the service left a bit to be desired. Although the staff was friendly, the pace was a bit slow, and we found ourselves waiting for drinks and additional table orders longer than expected. While our server was kind and attentive, it’s a bit frustrating to have to wait for such long periods. Overall, the experience was positive, but it would have been even better if the service matched the quality of the food and setting.

I was really impressed by both the food, plating, and service at Archer. Well worth checking out. The plum sake was really enjoyable and was very similar to ice wine yet still obviously sake. The House-Cut Fries were delicious and a big hit while the Prime Striploin & Bone Marrow was very enjoyable. I highly recommend the apple mousse dessert which was very unique. They also have a kids menu if you ask. The Mac & Cheese is small but very reasonable and a hit with kids.

We had a birthday brunch at Archer - we picked it because of the Michelin list that came out. It was quite nice - gorgeous calm open space. Level of finishing could have been improved - especially the wood ceiling. The menu was great - so many options and at least one of those will catch someone’s eye. The mimosas were delicious! The dining room was quite chilly, but it could have been because they just opened. Lipstick on the coffee mug which is a miss for sure. I did enjoy the chicken waffles. Servings were nice portions. I will have to try again with dinner service.

My wife took me here for a lovely birthday dinner surprise, and honestly hands down the best dining experience in town! Staffs were super attentive and friendly. The owner, Iain- such a kind gentleman and even treated me a Bday shot! Thank you for the amazing dining experience! (Will be coming back soon for the smoked oysters 👍)

What an absolutely amazing experience!! From start to finish, the staff were exceptional, including the owner who touched our table many times. The food was delicious and the portions were excellent. The atmosphere made us feel like we were somewhere other than Vancouver (had a European feel great ambience). There were seven of us in our group and we all felt extremely pampered. Highly recommend this restaurant. Special thanks to the owner and the staff for making our birthday girl feel so special!!

Had a great birthday dinner at Archer! We ordered five dishes and a drink, and everything was super tasty. We didn't mention it was my birthday, but the staff found out while chatting with us and surprised us with their signature Matcha Terrine after we paid. That was so SWEET! Would definitely recommend and come back!

Update: two people in my party got food poisoning. Pay attention to your food when you receive it.. Food was decent overall, but we did have undercooked and unrendered duck. We were never asked about follow up drinks, saw many people checking their own coats, and there was no quality check until we brought the raw duck to their attention. It s too bad about the lacking service.. we ended up at the keg afterwards

Came to celebrate my birthday early with friends and had an extremely poor experience. Served raw duck and sent it back after one bite. Shortly after the meal, myself and another person in my party that had duck had an upset stomach. Ive been food poisoned from this as Ive spent the last 24 hours with a sick stomach and constant bathroom visits. Service was also lacking as we never got water refills until we were able to wave down our server for it. Even when they refilled our water, they didnt refill everyone at the table. After we finished our beverages that we ordered, the server never asked us if we wanted to order another one. Food was just placed on the table without explanation of what it was. The server also never came back to check up on how the food was until we waved them down to complain about the raw duck. I expected a lot more from a fine dining restaurant, especially at this price point. Unfortunately this experience caused me to have to cancel my entire day of events the next day, which was my actual birthday.

We booked a table for 10 at 2pm for a bday brunch. When I called and spoke to staff nobody informed me the restaurant was closing at 330pm..we arrived to the restaurant and there was only one other table. We were rushed to put in our order and the service was terrible. We wanted to sing happy bday to our friend and cut the cake and they told us we had to pay and leave. Weve been to several restaurants in the lower mainland and this was by far the WORST experience we faced. Wont ever be dining here again and it ruined our gf bday brunch however we did go to another restaurant around the corner and had the best service and good and they even let us cut the cake with no charge after we told them our experience at Archer.

I dont get the hype. The food was fine, but looked better than it tasted - and didnt live up to the price or the Michelin plaques. One dish (duck) was noticeably undercooked and we sent it back. The ambiance is lacking - decor felt unfinished and lighting was harsh. We also had several service hiccups, but maybe we caught them on an off night.

Excellent experience, a beautiful place to enjoy from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. The manager and all the staff were very attentive and friendly but above all very patient with the children and the food without a doubt 5 stars the dishes in every bite were exquisite and super complete, we loved it, we highly recommend it.

My scallops arrived quickly, but seemed premade/left over and luke warm. The flavors/textures were quite off. Drinks came late. Would expect better timing and coursing at a restaurant like this. Overall, the food quality and presentation did not compare to other high end dining. I would not return to this restaurant or recommend it based on the mediocre experience.

Overall, I feel that the prices are more expensive than they should be. The steak was already cut and was cold by the time it got to the table, and really benefitted from the steak sauce. The charred broccolini was hardly charred and the dish was pretty average as a whole. The duck breast, scallops, and cocktails were quite good. It took a while to get our food, which may have been a consequence of going on a week day when it wasnt very busy. Overall, I wouldnt return but Im glad we tried this place out because Ive heard good things about it.

We celebrated a birthday at Archer and chose the tasting menu. The food was delicious, and beautifully presented. For a Michelin rated restaurant, and for the price point of the tasting menu, I expect far better service. The timing of our service was off. We waited for our drinks at length, the servers did not know the wine list (nor did the bartender), and the pacing between courses left us wanting. It seems like Archer needs more staff, with more experience, and more attention to their facilities.

Would not recommend. Food was mediocre and the dishes didn t make sense. The server was very nice and kind, but definitely out of her league and lacked knowledge of the menu. Our steak arrived over 30 minutes after our friends mains. On top of that, we ordered the 20oz steak and it looked more like 10oz. So surprising after all the good reviews here but I would not suggest going at all.

Archer is a true gem in downtown Vancouver dining here is always a delicious, fun, and memorable experience. The service is impeccable, and it s clear that the owners and staff take great pride in the food they re serving and the experience they re providing. The food is exceptional creative, beautifully presented, and made with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Every dish is delicious down to every detail, from the perfectly cooked proteins to the beautiful sauces, all packed with flavour. While Archer s dinner menu is certainly worth the visit, it s also open for weekday lunches and weekend brunches. While I haven t yet had the chance to try brunch, I highly recommend their lunch menu, which features daily specials and the most perfectly crispy house-cut fries. What adds a special touch to every experience Ive had at Archer is the hands-on involvement of the owners. From greeting guests at the door to serving drinks, checking in with every table, and even polishing glassware behind the bar, they truly embody the spirit of hospitality. It s clear how much love and pride they have for Archer, and that same warmth and care is reflected in the service from the entire staff. I highly recommend Archer for any occasion!

Archer focuses on the cuisine of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Whether it is the restaurant decoration or the presentation of the dishes, they are full of modernity. There were 11 dishes in total for this dinner including appetizers, main meals, and desserts. We, a group of foodies, chatted and enjoyed ourselves while eating. Appetizers Smoked Oysters Smoked Oysters Blue Fin Tuna Crudo bluefin tuna sashimi Autumn Burrata Autumn Burrata Cheese Grilled Octopus Grilled Octopus Foie Gras Tart Foie Gras Tart Main course Fraser Valley Duck Breast Fraser Valley Duck Breast Canadian Pork Collar Canadian Pork Collar Caramel Miso Sablefish Caramel Miso Sablefish Cavatelli Italian shell pasta Dessert Winter Apple Winter Apple Dark Chocolate Mousse Dark Chocolate Mousse I personally think Archers appetizers are very delicious, with their own unique characteristics of raw and cooked dishes. Especially the square tart with foie gras, which is both tasty and delicious. Compared with the appetizers, the four main courses were relatively plain, but the pork belly was tender and the mushroom and truffle flavor of the scallops were strong, which earned constant praise throughout the meal.

I had the pleasure of dining at Archer for their Tuesday lunch special, and it was an exceptional! I opted for the Salad Niçoise, and I can confidently say it s one of the best I ve ever had. Perfectly balanced and dressed, every bite was fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavor. It s rare to find a dish that hits every note so effortlessly, especially at such a fantastic value. The service was great attentive without being overbearing and the managing partners, Iain and Karen, added a personal touch to the experience. From the moment I entered Archer, I knew I was in for something special. The ambiance was a perfect blend of elegance and warmth, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. I began with the tomato and burrata a visually stunning dish bursting with fresh flavors. The creamy burrata paired beautifully with ripe tomatoes, awakening my palate. For the main course, I chose the acclaimed duck breast, which exceeded all expectations. Cooked to perfection, it was tender and succulent, with a crispy exterior adding delightful texture. The artful presentation and ideal portion size made it even more enjoyable. To finish, the seasonal ice cream was a delightful surprise. Each spoonful was rich and refreshing, capturing the essence of the season. Archer impressed me not only with its exceptional cuisine but also with attentive service and an inviting atmosphere. It was a memorable experience that I highly recommend, and I look forward to returning soon.

My colleagues had the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich and the tuna salad. I opted for the more expensive Salmon. They said their sandwiches were good. Thats why Ill give three stars. For me my salmon arrived 5 to 10 minutes after my colleagues were served. The salmon was served on a cold plate and it was also very cool. The fregola sarda was very very runny. I definitely would not go back there again but I think my colleagues would go back for the sandwich.

I took my parents to Archer after a few great visits myself, and it didn t disappoint. The cozy and intimate vibe set the stage for a relaxed meal. Every dish was beautifully presented, and each one tasted as good as it looked. The Hokkaido scallops and foie gras tart were spot on, and the miso sablefish was delicious. The standout, though, was the Fraser Valley duck breast honestly one of the best duck dishes we ve had. The flavors were just right, and the meat was perfectly cooked: moist, tender, and full of flavor. For dessert, we went with the matcha terrine, deconstructed coconut cake, and dark chocolate mousse each one was a great way to end the meal. A west coast inspired decor, with a throw-back vibe (reminiscent of Madmen)...for me, it works! Comfortable, yet intimate, with nice ambient noise (play list was nicely suited, at a volume where one could comfortably talk), creating a sense of calm . Food: Roasted Scallops: hokkaido scallops, butter-braised chestnuts (omitted at our request), piquillo purée, bacon vinaigrette, puffed wild rice...flavours complemented one another, with the puree adding a hint of heat; nicely seared, but, in my humble opinion, a tad over-cooked, borderline rubbery and chewy, versus my ideal, and preference, of a tender, almost silky feel... notwithstanding, we would still order again ... FRASER VALLEY DUCK BREAST...a perfectly cooked roasted duck breast, with pickled cherry, golden beets, wilted greens (kale), beet puree, and cherry jus ...this dish was done very well, cooked to a perfect medium-rare (it is a bird, but a red meat bird, therefore, should be treated akin to beef), perhaps a touch heavy-handed with the salt, but not enough to detract from the dish. The beets had the ideal give to them, and, unlike many other beet accompaniments Ive been served, not mushy...a definite recommendation to fellow diners.... CARAMEL MISO SABLEFISH fregola sarda, choy, shiitake, chorizo nage...wife thoroughly enjoyed the dish, particularly the chorizo nage, with the hints of shiitake and bok choy, with a touch of spiciness courtesy of the chorizo; the fregola pasta, upon which the sablefish was placed, was a nice choice (versus couscous or Maftoul), portioned perfectly...the Sablefish, one of my favourite white fishes, because of its milder flavour profile, and rich, buttery flavour, was cooked perfectly, with a delicate, silky texture. Again, would be on the recommend list... All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and one of the few establishments deserving of its Michelin rating. We will re-visit!

Don t order the ribeye such a rip off and not tasty at all for $120/20 oz. The tartar flavour was good but was so inconvenient to share amongst people. It was served on top of a piece of bread that was not pre-cut and was so awkward to use the same utensils as others on the table while sharing an appetizer. Using the same utensils that have been in their mouthes to cut the appetizer. If it s not convenient to share something don t put it as an appetizer. Also during the dinner something caught in fire burned and the smoke filled the entire restaurant. If you like inhaling burnt smoke go here.

So many things wrong with the meat. Texture was stringy and impossible to chew, colour was so pale and off putting, zero steak flavour. I d expect this quality if I were paying $5. Not $35. I mentioned this to the waitress and all she said was she d let the chef know. No apology, no offer to remake anything, nothing. Please go to the Keg across the street or anywhere else for that matter. What they served was clearly not quality steak.

Had delicious and beautifully plated brunch at Archer today. The server provided exceptional service by paying great attention to details (changing the fork as there was a drop of water on it and wiping the table thoroughly after we spilled just a bit of our drink, making sure the table was clean). Thank you for your service, Vincenzo!

We decided to return to this restaurant for Fathers Day brunch because we had previously enjoyed a fantastic dinner here with both outstanding food and service. Unfortunately, our brunch experience was quite the opposite. Our waiter, Vincenzo, started off helpful but soon appeared overwhelmed and struggled to keep up with the demands of the tables resulting in long waits for service. Our bill was incorrect and we were over charged on a couple of items. Another waitress took over to help so we could pay the bill to leave. We ordered the salmon and pork belly bennies, hamburger, and Montreal smoked meat sandwich. The highlight of our meal was thankfully the Montreal smoked meat sandwich, which my husband ordered for his Fathers Day brunch. The salmon Benny was average. Regrettably, the rest of our meals were disappointing. To avoid spoiling Fathers Day, we ate what we could. The brisket burger was overcooked and dry, which is particularly unnecessary and disappointing for beef brisket. The pork belly in the Pork Benny was tough and chewy, making it feel like chewing fat, which was not a pleasant experience. Additionally, some leaves in the salad were wilted. All four meals were lukewarm, indicating they had sat for a while before being served. On a positive note, the roasted potatoes were good. Overall, our brunch did not live up to the high standards set by our previous dinner experience, making it a less than ideal Fathers Day celebration. It seemed to be a bad day for Archer and with these prices, theres alot of better options.

The place you need to go if visiting Vancouver or living in Vancouver currently. The sexy drinks and chic atmosphere was just the cherry on top of the food, as it was EXQUISITE !!!! Drooling just thinking of it. The staff were so genuinely attentive, and you could feel how proud they are to be representing this establishment. This is my favourite restaurant in Vancouver without hesitation. You have to go and keep going! See you again Archers :) and thank you for the fabulous night. xx

Dined here with a few girlfriends on a Friday at 7pm. Place was half empty. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is lovely I will say. The food is a 3/5. Everything tasted good but nothing was such a wow factor, considering the insane cost of these dishes. Everything is presented nicely however it s just good, not great. Disappointed as we wanted that truly gastronomic experience and it really fell short. We are happy to spend money on dining out if it meets expectations, creativity and flavour profiles of top tier restaurants. Sadly we won t be back.

I really, really wanted to love it. We came at the recommendation of a friend who had loved it, but it just wasn t meant to be. The atmosphere was great and the service was fantastic. The place is beautiful and I would come back to try again because I really do think that if I had tried something I would have had a different experience. The tiramisu French toast was so thick with oil which overpowered everything else and I ended up just picking the toppings off (which were delicious). That being said - the bennys looked great and I will be back to try them!

This was one of the more disappointing meals Ive had in a while. I cant believe they are being recognized on the Michelin guide (not starred). First, the decor is very beautiful, although theres a starkness of stuff missing off the very blank walls I wasnt sure how to feel. What I didnt like was all of the damn fruit flies - they wouldnt end. Service was OK - kind of amateur for that level of price. The food is what got me low though. It wasnt executed well. The oysters were pungent and fishy due to the choice of roe on top as well as the process of smoking tableside. Im not huge into oysters but I can eat a few. There were four oysters for five people, but only three of us tried. The one guest is such an oyster lover, almost aficionado, and where I thought theyd be fighting over the fourth oyster, noone wanted it. The consensus from the two of them - worst oyster theyve ever eaten in my lives. I agreed. I couldnt stomach it. Everything else was just, average at best, and lacked salt. The tartare on the bread was super weird. The tartare was tasty, but the bread had the consistency of mochi. It was raw and gummy inside. Almost like undercooked batter. I dont know if thats the recipe, the way its supposed to be, but none of us liked how raw feeling it was. The Wagyu and bone marrow was OK, nothing special for the price. It didnt wow me any different from any other cut of regular beef, didnt feel or taste like Wagyu. The best executed dish was the duck breast - flavourful and seasoned. While we were all interested in getting desserts at the start of the meal, we all opted out and decided to go to a patisserie down the road. Everything was just....OK....and not at the caliber it should be at for the price. I wont be recommending it, theres a lot of work to do. Visit date was evening of Monday Mar 4, 2024

We were warmly greeted and given a choice of table, which we appreciated. Everything we ordered was nicely plated, portions were reasonable, ingredients were excellent, flavours good. The scallops were perfectly cooked but cool by the time they arrived. The sablefish was well accompanied but the fish itself was a bit bland. The venison tartare on bacon potato bread (deep fried?) was very filling. The pork jowl was good. A tasty matcha terrine for dessert, but it could have been fresher. Good service and a pleasant exchange with one of the establishment s owners. The room was 3/4 full on a weekend evening. Overall a good dining experience that did not match the price point. The value wasn t quite there. I d return to try brunch but am not in a rush to have dinner there again.

To be honest, the Valentines meal was extremely overpriced and the portions were terribly small. The waiter even agreed. But on top of that, the food was extremely slow to come out. Like others have commented, feedback was given to the waiter, but no manager spoke to us. Mandatory tip as well. The ravioli was way more raw than al dente. It almost had a crunch to it. We routinely make pasta at home, and the ravioli tasted like one of our own failures. We even got the truffle addition which was sparingly added. We also paid for an extra foie gras for $25+ which was literally the size of a thimble. Not trying to look down on a restaurant, but the overall experience was very poor. Just saying it as it is. When a bill ends up being almost $400 with drinks for two...you expect more...maybe Im just crazy here thinking that $400 should end up with two full customers. .who knows. Im still expecting some sort of a reply from the staff, either here or via email.

UNIMPRESSED/DISAPPOINTED Went for their 1 year anniversary and was not impressed. 1) Service: when we finally were able to flag our server he responded Yah? What do you want? . Minimal effort throughout the night. 2) Timing: we were brought our sides first, then our mains, and lastly our appetizers. At one point our table was so full we barely had space for our plates (which we had to ask for). Everything was enjoyed cold due to the lack of knowledge on food service. 3) Food: it was sub-par for a more upscale restaurant. Cocktails were excellent. 4) Space: ambiance is beautiful. Overall: For a $300+ bill for 2 people I expect top notch service and hot food. Have not recommended to any of my friends/clients. Definitely will not be going back.

I am going to be very fair in writing this review . When this restaurant opened , it was so good that I went there every few weeks and as someone who goes to many different restaurants , I d always mention the name of this place to others . However , the last couple of times I have gone here , the food has just become horrible for whatever reason . They charge $85 for a terrible over cooked wagyu+ Bone marrow . $60 for an uncooked looking duck . The service is so mediocre compared to the price you are paying . Atmosphere on the weekend is much better than during the week . Not as busy as before that s for sure . Altogether the quality of this place has gone down the drain .

Completely lacklustre and clearly overpriced. Server was nice but service all around was slow and tedious. Food was mediocre at best. Under-seasoned and bland. Uninventive and boring menu with a lack of particular charm or anything special . Having anything to do with the Michelin Guide begs questions of how that happened. Our group will never return. Overrated, overpriced, and not unique in the slightest. I wouldn t recommend this restaurant at all, especially for the price. My steak was $185 pretax. It was cooked poorly, cold by the time it arrived at the table, and it was pre-sliced. Presentation was awful, flavour was awful and for $185 pretax, one expects much much better. Go to Elisa or Botanist instead. You ll be glad you avoided spending hundreds here.

Got the tasting menu here and it was such an incredible experience, from the fantastic service to the delectable dishes! The owner was there and made an effort to stop and talk to every table. The servers never let our waters be empty and were always on top of flatware and whatever we needed. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere and decoration was simplistic in a beautiful and strategized way. I attached photos from our experience. The scallops (my favourite go-to for a night out) were the best I ve ever had! The veal tartare was unique and delicious with shaved truffle and citrus chips. I went with my partner to Archer Dining for the 2024 DineOut menu and the food was unfortunately poor in quality and taste, even at the discounted $65/person price. The appetizers were unusually salty and on the smaller side. The Venison Tartare was oversalted but still decently flavourful and edible, whereas the Hamachi Crudo was oversalted to a point where it was nearly inedible. For the entrees, the Miso Caramel Sablefish was undersalted, with the fish plated as two small filets that were sugary and lacked a proper sear. The fregola base was bland and was submerged in a watery broth, resulting in a flavour resembling steamed beans. The Fraser Valley Duck Breast was the better of the two entrees we had ordered, however the dish was also overly salty. The duck breast was mushy in texture, tasted of iron and was improperly seared. Lastly, the dessert course was the best of the 3 courses we had eaten, with the Dark Chocolate Mousse being light and airy with a Lindt chocolate flavour. The champage sorbet it was served with also had a wonderful flavour, but when the sorbet and mousse were eaten together, the flavours would combine and create a bitter taste. The Salted Caramel Pot de Creme had a nice, creamy mouthfeel, but tasted noticeably like burnt Werthers Original Caramels. Our server Hailey was incredibly friendly and was sympathetic to our experience with the food, stating that she would pass our thoughts to the chef. She had offered to swap our dishes, but seeing the quality of how all the dishes of the night were seasoned or paired, we decided against it. The ambience of the restaurant was quite nice with warm, softly lit lamps scattered around the establishment, however the immersion in the experience was not only broken by the food we ate, but also upon seeing a chef idly pacing back and forth in the upstairs kitchen while the restaurant below was fully seated. Overall, the food at Archer Dining was not up to par with the pricing and atmosphere set and I would not dine with them again.

Went for a birthday dinner and it was fabulous! Service was great, staff were nice and attentive. Food was excellent quality as well. We got the tartare, uni toast, pork jowl, octopus, corn risotto and matcha for dessert. Loved some of the asian-fusion flavors in their dishes. Dont know how to best describe it but the tartare tasted like miso soup in tartare form which was my favourite of the night. Octopus had a great kimchi sauce, and pork jowl was soft and yummy. I am a sucker for all things corn flavored so of course their sweet corn risotto was excellent! My only (small) criticisms would be that the octopus was a bit chewy and that the uni did not have much flavor.

My two friends and I dined at Archer this evening and decided to try out their Dine Out Menu. First off the service wasn t good, I asked about the wine pairing options and the server said the pairing options aren t paired with the set menu dishes. There is a red and a white option. $35 for 9 ounces of wine is simply ridiculous. Anyways I ll go on. The server was not good, he seemed uninterested the whole time. The food portions and flavours were underwhelming. The dessert course was the worst, dark chocolate paired with lemon sorbet ?? Those flavours don t go together. Waited 15-20 mins for our bills. The service was not thoughtful or caring. This place doesn t deserve the Michelin recommendation.

From the time we entered the restaurant to when we left, everyone we encountered made us feel welcomed and acknowledged in every way possible despite how bustling it was. Aside from our server, the hosts kept checking up on us to see how the food was and even going as far as refilling our water even before letting them know. To me, this spoke volumes on how much detail and care was given to every single guest to ensure they acknowledged. On top of the service, the food was top notch. My favourite was the Salted Caramel Pot de Creme. Im not much of a dessert person, but the amount of sweetness and saltiness was just right, and was a great was to close off the meal sequence. Overall, I would not come back and cannot recommend my friends to try Archer at this price point. I participated in the DineOut 2024 Vancouver with my partner and was exceptionally disappointed at the food. The service was great, had a comfortable interior vibe, and my food thoughts are below. The venison tartare portions were very small, and the tartare was oversalted. However, I did enjoy the flavor with the malted chips and duck yolk. I would enjoy a larger portion size, but the salt would prevent me from finishing it anyways. The hamachi crudo had fresh hamachi, but the ikura was offensively oversalted. The ikura salt was so strong that I felt it sting my nose when I smelled it sitting straight up, and it left a bad taste in my throat the entire night from the salt content alone. We asked the Server if the ikura was prepared incorrectly, but the kitchen responded that they do not prepare the ikura any further. This leads me to believe the salt brine proportions were off, and overall this was the most disappointing DineOut dish I have had to date. The Fraser Valley Duck Breast tasted overall good, but there was no sear and the skin lacked impact. The beet puree and pickled cherry was a nice touch, but the jus was yet again oversalted. However, I was not happy with the quality of the duck itself, as it tasted mushy from the cooking process & had an irony taste leading me to believe the slaughtering process was not performed well. The Miso Caramel Sablefish had good flavor and sweetness on the sablefish, but fregola sarda would work better with either a thicker or more flavourful broth, but I felt the broth lacked impact. The sear on the fish was also very disappointing, removing some of the sablefishs impact. Also, I saw some other photos online and the sablefish portions were greatly varying. I received a much smaller portion, and I just feel ripped off. The Salted Caramel Pot de Creme had great texture, but the caramel was burnt. Still a great dessert but I want to try it without burnt caramel. The Dark Chocolate Mousse was alright, but the champagne sorbet & dark chocolate mousse tasted bad together and great separately. The champagne and dark chocolate amplifies the bitterness and thats the aftertaste that sticks. I do want to reiterate the service from our server Hailey was exceptional. She was very open minded to hearing out our feedback and I felt welcome in the restaurant. Probably our only saving grace from the entire dinner.

Naturally we wanted to check out what they were doing for Dine out 2024. So we did last night and WOW - even better than last year! A delicious venison tartare, and delicate, unctuous hamachi crudo were the starters For the mains, we got the seared duck and the sablefish. The duck was perfectly cooked...like perfect and super flavorful. Perhaps the star of the night was the sablefish. It just melted in your mouth with fabulous flavors. The desserts were ridiculous in the very best way. I cant even begin to understand those who gave Archer 1 or 2 stars. The decor was beautiful, I had very high hopes for this restaurant as my friends had previously great expierence. The food, quality, and service was terrible. I am hoping this is just because of the dine out menu. Appies - the tartar was good, the burrata was tasty as well. Mains - the sable fish lacked excitement and was very mediocre. The portions for everything was very small. The duck was terrible, over cooked, rubbery, and lacked flavour. Dessert - The salted carmel was VERY salty - I had huge chunks of salt in my mouth at one point and I had to spit it out. The chocolate mouse was okay, but nothing special. Overall the portions were very small. What really disappointed me was the service. I have received better service at boston pizza.. It took over 25 mintues to get the bill after asking 3 times. Nobody checked on us after the food came otherwise I wouldve asked for the duck to be remade. When paying, nobody asked us how anything was as well, just stuck a card machine to us and said goodbye. At a $260 bill for two people id rather go elsewhere. Im am really excited to try Archer again with the regular menu as I see potential but this visit left a very sour taste in my mouth.

Very Meh brunch experience. The fried chicken burger made a few mistakes: theres a piece of bone that wasnt taken out; the brioche is dry and screams made the day before; the thick part of the chicken can use more flavour, at least some more brine; the fries are very soft and lost all texture, despite being flavourfully seasoned. The quality of food shows some serious skill issues with the chef: maybe they dont have the best personnels on a Saturday morning? Ill give some credits to their innovation attempts: mixing black garlic aioli with fried chicken is something new. My partner had sable fish benny and he likes it, its also hard to find another restaurant that would try sable fish on a benny. Kudos to that. The decor is very pedestrian, in case someone cares. Our cocktails were not well mixed and they could use some thinking: Im not a connoisseur on alcohol, but I was expecting the gin would at least come through other flavours. Also... Its eerily quiet for a Saturday morning. We didnt see any other diners for the hour we were there. Must be a chicken-and-egg issue: if they dont get customers for brunch they dont invest in them. Overall we wont come back again.

My go-to guide for a visit to a new city that lve not yet visited is the Michelin app, and its never disappointed. Archer was one of the restaurants I placed on the list based upon that guide and we were able to grab a table for a late-ish brunch during a quick visit to Vancouver. As many have noted, we were pleased with the options on the tight menu and enjoyed a delightful meal. The mixology was top-notch, with some intriguing options on offer (Midnight in Manhattan was my first choice) and a tight wine list that admittedly we did not sample on this journey. The environment is quite lovely, with a light, open dining room and adequate space between most tables. I also enjoyed the attentive, intelligent service with a smile. I look forward to another opportunity to dive in deeper on the dinner menu on a future trip to Vancouver.

Came here for date night during their Dine Out menu and had a wonderful time! Food: The spicy burrata was delicious and such a big portion for such a restaurant. The venison tartare was also very good. For mains the caramel miso sablefish was wonderful and excellently cooked, though the pearl couscous was a bit too soupy for my liking. We paid extra for the wagyu striploin which was the best steak we ve ever had, and the potato it came with was very fun and unique. Again portions were bigger than I expected. The salted caramel had a wonderful play of textures and tastes. Drinks: We had 4 cocktails and were very pleased with all of them. The pours were a good size, not super small. Service: Everyone was attentive and checked in frequently. Our waiter Kahl even offered to hold off dessert for us to digest the mains a bit (which we definitely needed!). Did not wait overly long for anything, including the bill, which they split as we asked. Space: Cozy with beautiful floral touches. Got too distracted by the good food to remember to take more photos! Will definitely be back.

1st time here at Archer for me and my husband. Loved the high ceiling and open space with great vibes. Servers were friendly with smiles on their faces. Tried their dine-out menu. 1st course: Hamachi Crudo and Venison Tartare. Both were fresh and delicious. 2nd course: Duck breast and Mushroom Cavatelli. Beet puree and foie gras sauce went very well with the duck breast and brought it up to the next level. Loved the truffle cream sauce, and it didnt overpower the natural umami of the mushrooms. 3rd course: we dont have a sweet tooth, but we enjoyed the dark chocolate mousse and the salted caramel pot de cream. Dark chocolate mousse was very creamy and smooth and not too sweet to our likings. The ingredients (biscotti, chocolate pearls, and white chocolate ganache) that were sitting on the salted caramel enriched the whole experience and made it fun in the mouth. :) My husband and I came here to pre-celebrate the upcoming Valentines Day. We both had a good time. Will definitely come back more with my family and friends! ~Sueann Fong~ Feb 11, 2024

Very disappointing dinner. The sirloin main course was extremely lean and bland, especially for its price. The mousse cake dessert was served while partially frozen. Feedback was given to the server, but management didnt care enough to follow up.

During our visit to Vancouver, we had the pleasure of dining at Archer, recommended by a friend. From the moment we stepped in, the warm hospitality of our waiter, Vincenzo, made us feel right at home. The culinary experience surpassed our expectations, especially with standout dishes like the perfectly cooked halibut and flavorful duck breast. The cocktails and wines complemented the meal beautifully. A definite must-visit for anyone in Vancouver seeking a memorable dining experience!

I celebrated my birthday here just after Christmas, we were a party of 10. Despite our group size, we were well-taken care of by our server, Vincenzo. Never felt rushed, drinks and food was served at a steady pace and all of us left satisfied with the experience. I recommend the octopus, tartare, and scallops to start, have the pork cheek, steak, halibut as the main course. Although we didnt order dessert, the last time I was there, I ordered the matcha cake and it was quite enjoyable and a great finisher. I wish that they increase the portion size of each dish as we wanted more of everything. I found the corn risotto quite unusual and would not recommend it, the palate for it is overwhelmingly corn and rice, one would mistake it as a sweet corn rice pudding that many Asian countries have as their dessert.

The quality was average. The stars of each dish were not the main feature. - Tenderloin ($75 for smallest 8oz Ive seen) was over salted and VERY heavy on butter. Accompanying bone marrow was good. - Duck breast was seasoned well, but tough. - Cheeky Berkshire was almost tasteless, the other components were good. - The standout was an appetizer, the scallops, cooked and seasoned perfectly. Maybe an off night but, based on my one visit, I would not recommend. There are many other restaurants with higher quality, for less.

January 23, 2024

Where to begin? The food was meh. Small plates that are clearly trying to emulate some form of elevated dining but lack the depth of flavour. The waiter, whose name I cannot recall, had a snobby attitude and made us feel rushed the entire time. HI will not be returning to El Grand restaurant. At these prices there are much better options in Vancouver, I say go to other restaurants.

I would love to give this place 5 stars but there are small things that, given the price, prevent me from doing so. - its far too bright. With such a cavernous space it does not feel intimate enough - the bathroom is very bare bones. Given how few patrons were dining, I would expect it to also be spotless but there were paper towels on the floor, etc. It doesnt feel particularly lux. - at Suyo and The Botanist, for example, a small comped item is usually given for a birthday or celebration but this didnt happen here - the venison tartar has too much bread so the star, the meat, is not able to shine That said, everything else was executed well. We are very fortunate to live in a city with so many great dining options so its the small things that can really take a restaurant experience from good to extraordinary and warrant coming back.

The service and food did not feel on par with the prices you pay. It was a very disappointing experience for a restaurant with a premium downtown location on a high-end shopping street like Alberni next to many luxury stores. The dishes were not conceptually impressive, fish was bland and overcooked, pasta undercooked and hard, service was slow and they lacked knowledge of their own dishes. Interior looks ok but thats about it.

Appetizers were new, creative, delicious, and fun - Charred Octopus with kimchi cream, Uni on the toasted bread, and smoked oysters. It s worth trying these appetizers, and I appreciate the chefs who put the ideas and flavours into the dishes. My favorite was the Charred Octopus. The glaze was well-balanced with sweet and salty flavors, stimulating my appetite. The kimchi cream was a perfect accompaniment to the dish without being overpowering. Mains were made with such care - Sturgeon, salmon, and duck breast. The components and presentations of the dishes were more traditional compared to the appetizers. The doneness of all the dishes was perfect. The sturgeon was very meaty, the salmon had a crispy skin side and soft & moist inside, and the duck breast tasted like actual duck, which pleased me so much!

First dining time at Archer and honestly I will be back frequently. We took the course menu. All the dishes were fantastic, right on point. Especially I really like the smoked oysters and scallop dish. The scallops were the best scallop dish in my life. Our server was very polite and knowledgeable on food and drinks. His recommendation on wine and cocktails were all matching with food so well. Besides food and service, I really liked their restaurant interior as well as the fact you can see the kitchen on the second floor made me excited! Strongly recommend here for date night out. Food 4.8/5 creative and delicious. I love the portion but the mains are relatively small. The starters are big The dessert are very tasty and creative. Loved the Lychee Rose but seem to be longan in it. Service 4.8/5 kind and attentive. Ambiance 4/5 went upstairs for washroom as directed. And the section was used as some sort of office. There were dish trays on the set-up table and files on the bench. I understand they need a space for that but the ad-hoc setting brings down the atmosphere of the entire space. Hand soap smelled good Return likelihood 5/5 would love to try the brunch-seemed to be priced better.

After sitting us down, we didnt get any service for about 15 minutes. It doesnt seem like its assigned tables to a server because all servers were serving all tables. Thats fine, but completely neglected us. Appetizer and drink was really good, smoked oyster is great and scallops were cooked perfectly. Then it was a 30 minute wait for the food, no one checked in, no one approached, table after us got their food and thats when we asked. Partner and I were clearly upset and flagged them down, said itll be 1 min. It finally came, but the halibut was overcooked. At this point just wanted to eat and leave. Just disappointed that for a high end restaurant, when asked if it was good or not and I said it wasnt, something was done to try to improve my experience. $100 each, theres better options.

Archer is a fancy restaurant, but its got a friendly and bright vibe that makes you feel at home. The people who greet you and serve you are super nice and always look out for you. The food at Archer is just out of this world, and the service is top-notch. Ive tried a bunch of dishes from their menu, and all of them have been fantastic. You can count on them for amazing food every time. The owner of the place is really cool too. They come over to your table and ask how everything is. Whats even cooler is that they remember you from your last visit. Its like they know you, and it makes you feel special. The whole feel and look of the restaurant are great. Archer knows how to make fancy feel friendly. One thing I love is that every time we go there, we end up staying for more than 2-3 hours, but it never feels that long. Time just flies by because were having such a good time. If you want a dining experience thats not only delicious but also super welcoming, Archer is the place to be. Food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The duck breast melts in your mouth like butter. The space is quite beautiful and the seating is plush and comfy yet the vibe is lively which can get a touch noisy when full. All the staff were very kind and down to earth. Seemed like they may have been short staffed as the service was not as smooth as youd expect for the price. Personally, I also felt the choice of music was a bit too 1 am at the club for a higher end dining establishment...but Im old. Overall, it was a really nice experience.

Archer, despite its Michelin star recommendation, left me unimpressed and unlikely to return. A significant portion of the menu was unavailable, and the service felt a bit odd refusing an extra person for our table in a half empty dining room. While the scallops were a highlight, the overall atmosphere fell short, with overly bright lighting that failed to create a relaxed dining experience. Given the cost, its not a place Id choose for a return visit.

Came here because it was Michelin recommend. The food looked good but nothing really wowed me. Smoked oysters looked really cool coming out in a fish bowl with the smoke but the oysters were a tad fishy. Charred octopus was too chewy and the duck breast was overcooked. I was most excited for the Uni and Lardo dish but there wasnt anything special about it. I also found a hair in it which they took back and re-made but there was no follow-up on how it was tasting or any other apologies. I found the service to be subpar - it took them a while to come by to get our drink order and there wasnt really any follow-up throughout dinner. I would have expected better coming from a Michelin recommend restaurant. Im always willing to pay an expensive meal if it was worth it but food and service left me feeling very unsatisfied so I will not be returning.

Came here for brunch and the food was just mediocre for a place being Michelin guide and that highly rated? Order 3 things for brunch. Tiramisu French Toast : It was okay it was more of a jam french toast than a tiramisu. Fried Chicken sandwich : It was just your average fried chicken sandwich but the most disappointing part of it was the side of fries which tasted quite old like it was made early in the morning and just sat in a basket. how i would describe eating the fries would be the equivalent to ones in a highschool cafeteria. Pork Belly Benny: Just your regular benny no complaints. For the price you are paying its quite overpriced for the food quality. Maybe dinner is better?

We went for brunch today, first time to the restaurant. There was a hiccup with the ordering system, kitchen did not seem to get the order and so the food took a long time to come - over 45 minutes. However, the manager/owner came by proactively to apologize as they realized the mistake and compensated the meal on the house which was a really nice gesture. Dont see that too often, especially before a customer complains. Overall the food was quite good (as were the drinks) and unique menu. Would go here again.

Overall, we were disappointed with our visit. First dish came out 10 minutes before everyone else s, whose avocado toast wasn t seasoned and came on brioche that was soft, leading to an overall soft textured toast which wasn t pleasant. My own brisket sandwich was pretty good, but could have used a bit more seasoning and my fries were almost cold when they made it to the table. Other guest with us had two vastly different poached eggs on their dish. Disappointing for a Michelin Guided restaurant. Service was quite accommodating and give them 5 stars for that.

Unfortunately a rather dismal dining experience. We ordered the venison tartare, scallops, halibut, and pork jowl. The venison was served on a potato bun that often overpowered the flavour of the venison, cheese, and salted duck yolk. The texture of the bun was great though. The scallops were overcooked to the point where one scallop was almost fully brown and all of them were gummy and flavorless. We sent this dish back. Pork jowl Cheeky Berkshire was just okay. Portion was on the smaller side, and pork was under seasoned. The Tokyo turnips and sauce were good. Halibut was good but not great. Portion size was also on the smaller side. Lastly, the drinks were good and the price point was fair. Service was not great. Had to call waitress to get attention, food was served without cutlery, water was infrequently filter, and recommended dishes were unsatisfactory. All in all, for a Michelin guide restaurant at this price point, I would not recommend this restaurant. There are many better options in Vancouver.

December 23, 2023

Appetizer: scallops were to our surprise, overcooked and even rubbery to chew which we did ask to swap for the octopus (we never do this but it was very overcooked) and they did thankfully replace with the octopus. It came about 15mins after ordering and was a much better dish but they didnt give us cutlery so it took another 20mins of waiting after they said theyd bring us cutlery, then realized we had to get someones attention as they had forgotten (at this point our friends have been done their appetizers for 20mins), then to only eat it cold much after our friends had finished their appetizers. Beef tartare came first and looked like a brown donut and also just tasted like mediocrely seasoned raw meat on a piece of cheap fried donut on a very modern plate. Main courses were okay in terms of flavour, quality, balance, and portion. Presentation was well done but the taste and balance of ingredients were so so. Service was slow, inconsistent, except for asking if we wanted more beverages. They filled our water once. Waiter recommended dishes were not good. When paying, their machine kept breaking on payment and now we have to call the card as it got locked out, not to mention, no offering to assist while standing there or to grab a better machine after 2 cards and 5 attempts. Worked on the 6th attempt, finally, on a third card. Our friends ordered different appetizers and mains and also found the service and food mediocre and will not return. In total, we ordered 4 apps, 4 mains, 1 dessert, and 8 drinks. All only okay compared to similarly priced and rated restaurants. Overall, this was surprisingly one of our worst experiences for a Michelin recommended, which we found overrated. We understand when things go awry but felt the handling and service was subpar at every opportunity - didnt feel personal, honest, or offered any explaining and lacked consistency on who served us or followed up. We did tip 15% regardless as we were there for an unexpected 4hrs. Perhaps, worth having dedicated servers for tables or explaining courteously so customers can understand whats going on.
