We came here for a friend’s birthday dinner, and prepaid for a set menu. The food was mediocre at best. I have been to Black+Blue before and found the food then to be satisfactory, but not anything amazing. It’s standard steakhouse food, although it is overpriced for the quality. However, the food in the group set menu was disappointing. Everything was much too rich and didn’t have any balancing flavours or elements, the steak was an unremarkable cut of meat and was overcooked (I specified medium rare), and the salmon was a great texture but underwhelming taste wise. The butter cake at the end was a great texture and had a lovely vanilla flavour. The service was fast and polite, and it’s a beautiful restaurant. I just would not recommend coming here for the group set menu.
We booked a private room for a company Christmas dinner with one of the group menus (including upgraded steak), and it did not disappoint! Everything was fabulous. The food was delicious and plentiful. The pace of each service was perfect. And Lisa, our server, was everything you could ask for. She was so very aware of everything going on and worked hard to ensure that our needs were met. Well done! Definitely an experience we would like to repeat.
I personally enjoyed my experience even if it's just the happy hour. Eli the one serving/assisting us is so friendly and polite, checking us always if we need something else. Will definitely go back to dine and will recommend to my friends.
This venue was fabulous and absolutely beautiful! We hosted a customer event here, and the staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating, ensuring all our space and setup needs were met. The rooftop was perfect for a cocktail hour, offering stunning views and a great atmosphere. That said, the event space we were given had a smaller capacity than advertised. It was supposed to fit 60 people, but realistically it felt comfortable with only 40. Additionally, the room's glass walls made temperature control a challenge, which was a bit of a drawback. The only negative comment I have is that the front desk team wasn’t very helpful in assisting our customers in navigating the elevators to the rooftop, which caused some confusion. However, the food was outstanding, and the overall experience was memorable. I would definitely return for drinks and dinner when I’m back in Vancouver. Huge kudos to the kind and attentive staff for making the event a success despite the minor hiccups!
Absolutely loved our experience at Black+Blue! We came during happy hour on a Monday which we reserved on the same day. We were blown away by the quality and value. The $39 prime rib was fantastic—tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The oysters and steamed mussels were incredibly fresh, and the Wagyu beef was outstanding, truly melt-in-your-mouth. Our server, Omar, was the best! He was friendly, attentive, and constantly made sure we had everything we needed without ever being intrusive. To top it all off, they surprised us with a complimentary birthday cake that was as delicious as the rest of the meal. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for high-quality food, a great atmosphere, and top-notch service. We’ll definitely be Back!
We went in happy hour, so tapas style smaller plates. The food was great. The service was excellent, even my handbag was given a stall to be placed off the floor. We went on the roof top, I imagine on a summers day would be even better. The decor is lovely. Well worth a visit.
I hadn’t had a great overall dining experience in a while until I came to Black & Blue. Food: 5+/5 - we dined during happy hour. We started with the Steak house Nachos and it was like no other nachos ever. Different and tasty. We had the prime rib special and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was melted in our mouths. We ended up ending the meal with Banana Foster flambé. They gave us a complimentary birthday dessert of butter cake which was heavenly. Service: 5/5 - service was fantastic. They refilled our water glasses frequently and asked if we needed anything. Atmosphere: 5/5 - the place felt festive with plenty of holiday decor. A great place to dine with family and friends. Overall a great place to dine!
Our first fine dining experience in Vancouver was nothing short of exceptional! The atmosphere and decor are trendy and stylish, setting the perfect tone for an unforgettable meal. Right from the start, we were greeted with attentive service—before leading us to our table, they offered to check our coats and provided tickets, a thoughtful touch that elevated the entrance experience. The waitstaff was incredibly accommodating, especially our server, Eli, who went above and beyond. He was easy to talk to, provided excellent recommendations, and truly made us feel welcome. We started with a dozen raw oysters, which were unbelievably fresh and practically melted in our mouths. Then, in a unique twist, a staff member brought over various cuts of beef and explained the differences, giving us a true appreciation of their selection. Naturally, I had to try their Japanese Kobe beef tenderloin, and the 8 oz portion did not disappoint! It was by far the best steak I’ve ever tasted—perfectly tender and bursting with flavor. The Caesar salad, prepared tableside by Eli, was not only delicious but also fun to watch him make. We ended the meal with a beautiful assortment of birthday desserts that Eli assembled, each one more delicious than the last. The entire experience—from the service to the incredible flavors—was flawless. We’ll definitely be back, especially for that unforgettable Kobe steak!

Everything about our experience was amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful and inviting. All of the staff were professional and kind. Our server Marco was funny and incredibly attentive. The food and drinks were excellent and you could tell that they use good quality ingredients. We were celebrating birthdays and they made us feel very special. They even gave us a birthday dessert each! I live in Victoria, but I will definitely be coming back here. Thank you!

Restaurant Review: Black+Blue Pre-Christmas Dinner Drawn in by their tempting tea-time specials, a group of 17 of us, including kids, decided to kick off the holiday season with a pre-Christmas dinner at Black+Blue. The atmosphere was impressive from the moment we walked in, greeted by their giant beef display window and a stylish bar nearby. The service was excellent, but the food was a mix of hits and misses. Appetizers: We started with fresh oysters, which were small but deliciously creamy. The crab cakes were perfectly crispy on the outside, and the prawn cocktail stole the show huge, perfectly cooked prawns that were simply a delight. The mussels were also very good, adding to the strong start. Soups & Salads: The onion soup was decent but leaned a bit too salty for my taste. As for the Caesar salad, while it was prepared tableside, which added a touch of flair, the result was underwhelming. The dressing lacked flavor, and the lettuce felt bland and uninspired. Mains: The restaurant s special $39 prime rib was a generous cut of beef, but unfortunately, it didn t live up to expectations. While it s worth the price tag, it didn t offer the elevated experience you d expect given the restaurant s reputation. Overall: Black+Blue delivers a beautiful setting and excellent service, and the appetizers were the highlight of the evening. While there were some disappointments with the mains and salad, I still think it s a great spot for special occasions. I d definitely revisit and explore more of their menu!
We ve been here so many times and the food and service have always been consistent for lunch dinner and happy hour. We especially love the happy hour here because they offer great deals for their delicious food and cocktails. The sliders are especially and highly recommended among other items.

Worst, most overpriced food Ive ever had. My salmon came raw. Got a new one, it was better, but very poorly flavored. The creamed cauliflower it came with was sparse, ugly and tasted atrocious and I couldnt get through it. My drink tasted like trash (the non-alcoholic pear one) and the flavors werent coming through. The only thing worth getting is the mac and cheese sticks 0/10 would not recommend.
Fraser was super informative and kind. We had a lovely meal with excellent service. I have to say the wagyu A5 and house wine during happy hour was mind blowing. But the butter cake is an absolute must! Mind blowing good with great texture and balance of sweet and savoury. We plan to come back for the tomahawk and most definitely that butter cake! Shelbey took great care of us. It was my girlfriend s first time trying A5 beef, as well as her birthday. We were presented with examples of each cut, and Shelbey was very detailed with the explanation of each, and patient with our questions. She even took a great photo of us while we were admiring the options. Appetizers, sides, wine, and of course the main event (we went with Kobe and Omi) were all fantastic. Great ambience as well, and we d love to try the rooftop next time. We look forward to coming back soon!
My recent visit to Black+Blur was far from the high-end dining experience I had expected and nothing short of a nightmare. The evening started off on the wrong foot when we encountered issues with our seating arrangement. The most glaring issue was the glaring inconsistency in their menu items being offered in their dining room and their rooftop. We had a group reservation, for 6, to celebrate a friends birthday. We were seated at the rooftop. When we were ready to order, the waiter politely apologized and informed us what the restaurant was advertising for dining room was not being offered in the rooftop and we had to move to the dinning room. He arranged for us to move to the dinning room after consistently apologizing. He Said unfortunately there are many customers who experienced such, and the restaurant has, thus far, FAILED to correct the issue. We got seated at a table where the birthday boy was being interrupted by another waiter, who was serving the next table, claiming there were no other way they could go around the table. A guy approached the table and asked, Is everything ok? As soon as we started to explain, he rudely interrupted us and talked over us. He introduced himself as the manager, but from his card, we found out he was only an assistant manager. His name was Hamid Refaei The assistant managers rudeness was truly remarkable. He talked as if they were doing us a favor by letting us dine there. His condescending attitude made us feel unwelcome. The entire evening was marred by his lack of professionalism and courtesy. Hamid said the reservation clearly stated that prime-rib is not offered in rooftop. That they didnt have the capability to prepare prime rib on rooftop. He then changed his comment and said the rooftop is a different restaurant. He then said you should have checked the menu before you came. Why do I need to check the menu before I go to a restaurant? Dont people normally see the menu right before they place their order? It was a birthday celebration and this was supposed to be a high-end stake house restaurant. Hamid, after arguing for a good 10 minute period, instead of deesclating the situation, said: this is the most sought-out-after table. If youre not happy, you can leave. After our time was wasted for over 1 hour despite having a reservation and our mood destroyed by Hamids rudness and unprofessional behavior, We, all decided to take the birthday celebration somewhere else. Instead of resolving the problem gracefully, the assistant manager chose to engage in a heated argument. Their attitude was shockingly rude, and it only escalated when we tried to express our dissatisfaction. In a moment of sheer disbelief, the assistant manager callously retorted, If you dont like it, you can leave. This response was not only unprofessional but completely unacceptable in a high-end restaurant that should prioritize customer satisfaction. The entire experience left me deeply disappointed. Dining at Black+Blue was meant to be a special occasion, but it turned into a memorable one for all the wrong reasons. I would strongly advise against dining at this establishment, as the lack of professionalism and courtesy displayed by the assistant manager tarnished what could have been a delightful evening.
My buddy and I have an annual Christmas dinner tradition. For the past 10 years, Ive insisted we go to Gotham because I had a bad experience at Black & Blue about six years ago. This year, he suggested we give Black & Blue another shot. I agreed, especially since I had just been to Gotham four nights earlier and thought it would be interesting to compare. We decided to try the prime rib special, but what we were served looked nothing like the photo on their website. The service was underwhelming just mediocre at best. They offered us dessert, but by that point, it didn t make up for the overall experience. I honestly don t understand why my experiences at this place have been consistently disappointing.
Lloyd is superb. Really caring. My family feels pampered. Sumit leads the entire team really well. Acknowledge our request before we even ask. This is really rare to seen this level of service in Vancouver! I am impressed. Black n blue is definitely the it place to go for.

We went for happy hour last week and had the best time. The atmosphere was so festive, the food was amazing and the overall vibe was fantastic. They also had the best music. The service was amazing! Would like to give a big thank you to Abigail who went above and beyond. She is an absolute rock star. The bartenders were super as well. Would highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back.

I attended a private event at Black and Blue last night, and unfortunately, it did not meet the standard I ve come to expect from them. We placed our dinner orders at 7 pm, but the food didn t arrive until 8:45 pm. When it finally did, the quality was disappointing overcooked steaks that were dry and far from the usual Black and Blue experience. To make up for it, the restaurant offered our group a round of shots, but I think most of us would have preferred timely service and properly prepared food over free drinks. We assumed the delay was due to the restaurant being busy, but upon leaving, we noticed it was actually quite empty. Based on this experience, I d hesitate to return with a large group, as it seemed smaller parties received better service. In the past, visits with just a couple of us have always been great, so this was a surprising and frustrating change.
Hosted a private event on the roof top for my birthday. A week prior to the event I wanted to confirm our tables and found out that the hostess had changed our reservation from the roof to the regular dining room. Lorena was able to accommodate and offer a table on the roof with a minimum spend. Service is exceptional, waitresses and servers place close attention to your drinks and always refill, complimentary coat check and informative staff. We did have a set menu with steak, mushroom risotto, king salmon and turkey. 2/10 guest found hair in their food which was quite upsetting. Also, I was surprised that there was no DJ playing music as I have seen in the past. Overall the ambiance and atmosphere is great, service impeccable, food was good except for the two hairs.

Unfortunately my stomach decided to do belly flops and I spent the entire evening going in and out of the bathroom, barely able to stomach the delicious food. Lisa was our server and was absolutely wonderful. She got me hot water with lemon, made sure my water was always filled and never empty. If you dont want her, wed like to hire her!!

Our company hosted an annual holiday lunch at Black + Blue. Everything was perfect; working with the event manager Melodie, the choices for the group menus, and the attentive service staff and food at the lunch. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

ELI IS AMAZINGGGGG. So attentive and excellent customer service; all smiles, always around to check in and A+++ for our girls night. Previous experience: We had a great time and their Sunday prime rib deal (which happens from time to time but isn t a mainstay on their website) is GREAT VALUE: you get a tableside Caesar salad, prime rib with Yorkshire pudding, a glass of house wine and a butter cake for dessert for $40 each person. However I m conflicted about this review and this is why it doesn t get a full 5 stars. On the one hand we had a super great date night with spectacular service from the waiter, hostess, and front desk but on the other hand our Sunday prime rib was only so so. For a steakhouse I would imagine the prime rib to be amazing but my husband s prime rib requested to be cooked medium was more like medium well, but my medium rare was cooked perfectly; however both our steaks were a little tough to cut and chew despite being aged. So I m very conflicted because this is a great dining experience but the prime rib was only better than average, not outstanding. I would still come here because we enjoy the ambiance and the happy hour on the Roof on a sunny day is amazing.

Update: The restaurant responded to my review and suggested me to email them to discuss more. I did that about two weeks ago and haven t heard back at all (I checked my junk mail). Someone stole my umbrella from the restaurant s umbrella bin (it was a very special vintage umbrella that I had for many years, I m actually quite upset over it). Asked the hostess if that s the only bin they have, she said yes, I then told her my umbrella is missing from their bin and she ignored me, I will not come back here.
Hasan was the best part of our experience we came with a group of people from work and I couldn t recommend a better server. 10/10 food as well

We had a great experience at Black&Blue. We went there to try out their Happy Hour menu. They had the Prime Rib dinner at HH prices which was fantastic. Very good value and was cooked how you like it. Would totally recommend it. Atmosphere was nice and our servers, Anita & Scott, were knowledgeable about the drinks and food on offer and were able to make suggestions for us especially the drinks . Overall it was a wonderful experience especially with the Anita & Scott.
I went to Balck + Blue today and I had a great time. Our server Nathalia was great and very thoughtfull.
It was 4 of us, old school friends from way back. Wanting to have a solid steak night. We paid 186 I think for the porterhouse and about 130 for the rib eye. Asked for the porterhouse medium rare, and the rib eye medium. The strip side of the new york came out as a rare plus at best, not medium rare. Outside was over charred with a really gray line behind it, then a slightly under medium rare. It just wasnt cooked nicely at all. I understand its a high volume joint and things happen but there was zero love in this one. None. Then the tenderloin side of the porterhouse (which is the MOST expensive cut)... I dont even know how they did it, but they managed to not slightly overcook it, but REALLY overcook it. It had maybe one center slice bite that was medium and the whole rest was well done and drrryyyyy. You only maybe get about 5 pieces of steak from the tenderloin side of the porterhouse and its the most expensive. Only 1 bite was enjoyable (but it was still only 1 bite, and that bite was medium if Im being generous). So all of this, is just for the porterhouse. The rib eye was completely butchered. Like its a shame that they overcooked such a nice ribeye because it had beautiful marbling and a big spinalis dorsi. It was super well done (not medium) maybe 2 or 3 center pieces that were a juicy well done, but 70 percent of the steak literally looked like an overcooked piece of brisket. We werent quality checked for 13 minutes so we had to sit there with our 2015 montalcino to keep our lips wet at least, but at what cost (its NOT cheap wine). That was a special bottle and we didnt even get to enjoy it properly with a good steak. And we would have ordered a lot more if things went well. What a shame, truly. Told the server when he came back, he made the right move, immediately got a manager. Manager comped our rib eye, apologized, got us a new ribeye which was magically cooked perfectly. Nice crust, evenly pink in the middle, perfect. But we should have had a tenderloin replaced to for what they did with that first one. I dont like negotiating in restaurants though, I know what we deserved and this isnt about getting extra food or anything. Its about them destroying an insanely expensive piece of meat and not replacing it. You gotta replace the cuts that were off, not just one. And I was being generous by not complaining more about the new york side of that porterhouse. And I want to be clear with management, black and blue, the second rib eye you sent out was NOT the same size ribeye. Not even close. It had literally a 0.5 ounce spinalis dorsi and no complexus at all.... It looked like a striploin at first glance. I dont know if you guys do rib eye cap steaks but it looked like the cap was removed in the butchery stage, or it was just a tiny end cut. In either case, the comped steak was cooked beautifully but it wasnt close to the same size or quality of ribeye that was originally ordered. It didnt make up for that tenderloin that was destroyed on the porterhouse. It didnt make up for me not being able to enjoy a high end wine which I dont normally order. It didnt make up for my sides going cold while I waited another 18 minutes for small ribeye which I didnt order. You guys need to comp steaks and bring new sides, or at least offer. And a shame that moltalcino had to be enjoyed wjth no food in front of us. Your Som even upsold us to that wine too. Anyways. Sides were pretty good. The Mac and cheese sticks were fire. Mash was solid. Brocolinni really nice. Whoever was on cooking the sides on Saturday was killing it. Im a really fair guy, could have been super salty and went with 1 star but that would have been dishonest.

Amazing place for steak, might be the best Ive ever had. Everything from the French onion soup, the steak and Wellington, and the creme brulee afterwards were all one of the best weve ever had. We were cordially taken care of by Will and the service was . Highly recommended!

An amazing first experience at Black + Blue! We sat on the rooftop, it was cozy with the heaters and very nice looking up there. The food was unreal, we had the waygu A5 steak with a couple sides & the carpaccio to start. The manager Amer was wonderful. This is how managers should be at every restaurant! He made sure our experience was 10/10, and we were pleased with his hospitality. We had great conversations with him. Our server Christina was great too, she always made sure we were taken care of, they both made our experience so good. The service here is what stands out from other restaurants. We will definitely be returning when we come back to Vancouver! Thank you Black + Blue!

Eddie & Drew were both very personable& professional despite the happy hour rush. We decided to celebrate Thanksgiving here in Vancouver for the first time, and wanted to eat in a good restaurant. Looked for a place to eat and found Black+Blue, and we were so happy that we ate here. Giving a special shoutout to two staffs of this resto. Kelvin who made our Ceasar Salad in front of us, was very friendly. The salad was soooo good (yes, coming from me who barely eats salad and vegetables!). Also Bob our server was so nice who decided to give us compilmentary Butter Cake for dessert after telling them we were first timers here in YVR to celebrate Thanksgiving. Very nice touch. Friendly staff, great food, great mood. Will definitely come back next time.

Ruining a Piece of Premium Meat! The place itself is beautiful well-decorated, frequented by attractive and well-dressed patrons. The architecture is impressive, the chairs are comfortable, and the rooftop is really cool. With a friendly and intelligent waiter, everything seemed promising at first. I ordered a Boston Bibb Salad and a New York Striploin, while my friend opted for a Burrata Salad and a Cowboy Rib-Eye. That s when the gastronomic disasters began. The Boston Bibb Salad arrived without the boursin cheese mentioned on the menu, and the flavor was reminiscent of something spoiled and entirely lacking in personality. I tasted my friends salad, and the tomato pesto sauce, along with the combination of flavors, was utterly bland. What a disaster! After enduring the torture session that was the salads, the much-anticipated aged meats from the renowned Black+Blue arrived. The meat was cold and not cooked to the requested doneness. It was devoid of salt, flavor, and personality a true horror show. To make it somewhat palatable, I had to ask for butter and salt. I dont know if this is the standard at Black+Blue, but my expectations are much higher. Ive had meat in different parts of the world, and even in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, the food is better.

I came through for a quick happy hour ordered the feature oysters and did not disappoint. Also tried the premium oysters but didn t really need to since they were smaller. They have an unbeatable house-made cocktail sauce unlike any other and of course we had to order the famous Mac & cheese sticks everyone likes! Can t stress enough the calamari is better here than Coast. Also I was here on a dinner last year and had the A5 waygu - just added some of those pictures. So good and I would say it was more presentable than Gothams and honestly the atmosphere is better as well. I dont know why but I think B&B s tastes a bit better for some reason. It was the best steak I ve ever had. Thanks

Always a treat to dine at Black & Blue. Bonus since we dined during their $39.95 prime rib promotion as well as happy hour specials. Steakhouse nachos are to die for! Unfortunately the bananas foster was a disappointment compared to the versions experienced in the USA. Service was attentive and friendly.

Rachel our server made it a great experience on the rooftop. Atmosphere was great. Food was mid. Felt like they used freeze dried garlic in the risotto instead of fresh because I always can tell. I felt the steak was good but not good enough to justify the cost. We will go again but probably avoid the steak and stick to the appetizers and entree menu. Overall a good experience.

Which I think is normal questions and a reason to call Def wont be spending my $$$$here Was told to reach out no response Still no response. Not really professional at all would not come here. Heck they dont even know their own procedures for a reservation and are extremely rude on the phone. And then to say to reach out and when doing so no email back and now their comment has disappeared. Very very un professional

We went for happy hour and I ordered the $39 prime rib which was very good. I asked for medium rare and that is what I got. The prime rib came with a small side of vegetables, mashed potatoes and yorkshire pudding. I asked for extra red wine jus for the yorkshire pudding and was never advised it would be an extra $5 until I saw it on my bill. I don t mind paying it but should have been advised of the price in advance. The friends I was with ordered the steam mussels, phyllo prawns, stuffed yorkie, beef slider and beef carpaccio pizza. It was all delicious. I had a bit of tummy issues the next day but my friend who also had the prime rib did not. I would go back again for happy hour.

I m a huge steakhouse girlie and Black + Blue did not disappoint. Everything from the moment we walked in was absolutely amazing. The service we experienced from Marcel and the Service Director, Marcellin was top tier and very much appreciated as first time patrons. Marcel walked us thru all the steak cut options with extreme knowledge and charisma, leading to the choice of the special 34oz Aussie Wagyu. The chef cooked to perfection! The little subtle hints of rosemary in certain bites was chef s kiss ! If you do nothing else definitely order the wagyu fried rice as a side, it does not disappoint. And there is definitely no leaving without having the Black + Blue Butter cake. Our server Marcel said it s been on the menu for 14 years and I can see why. This better not leave. Ever! I enjoyed ever bit of my dinner experience and highly recommend. I will definitely be back anytime I m in Vancouver.
Marcel and Marcellin were amazing. Marcel recommended a great Australian Waygu and complimented wine. The sides of spinach, crispy Brussels sprouts, and waygu fried rice were exceptional. Marcel s presentation of our steak was phenomenal. To finish the night, we had two delicious desserts, but the star was the Black+Blure Buttercake. We are off to enjoy drinks on the rooftop with the encouragement of Marcellin We had a great night out and look forward to coming back soon! I definitely recommend anyone visiting Vancouver to make Black+Blue on your must do list!
Had dinner reservations for a busy Friday night. Our experience from start to finish was very pleasant. The food, atmosphere and service was top notch. Cant say enough good things about our server Marcel. Not only did he have great table side manner but he was able to anticipate our needs which elevated the experience.
