Blue Water Cafe is Vancouver's definitive destination for seafood, widely known for its excellence in celebrating the extraordinary flavours of BC. Consistently awarded "Best Seafood Restaurant" in Vancouver and recognized for its unparalleled service, an evening at Blue Water Cafe is truly an unforgettable experience.
Both blue water cafe and Elisa are sister restaurants where my family, friends and I been here many times to celebrate holiday, birthday celebration, or weekend dine out. Today, we ordered tempura sushi roll, crab cake, roasted chicken, kobe short rib, and Black Forest cake. Presentation, taste, and service remain top notch in Vancouver. Perhaps one minor suggestion is creating seasonal menu would be more ideal as I have tried most of dishes on the menu all year round.
Was a really nice time food was good. Not the best I've had.. the oysters had shell in it which is always a turn off for me the sauce that went with them was just balsamic and Italian herbs which didn't go the with the oysters too well.. I made my own sauce using the rose we ordered and the balsamic they provided..all in all would rather go elsewhere for that price point.
My friends and I were there celebrating my birthday. Their house special seafood tower was stunning and delicious! There were variety of seafoods stacked in a 3-tier plates. The service was good except that night seems to be short staffed and our waiter was often not around or busy attending other tables at the same time. We still had a great time and definitely will come back again!
We had the most amazing Thanksgiving dinner thanks to our server, Nathan. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a fantastic experience. The delicious seafood display from the Blue Water Cafe, along with the chamomile tea and white wine, made the evening even more special. And let's not forget the delightful dessert that Nathan recommended – it was the perfect way to end our meal! Nathan's professionalism and hospitality truly made our evening unforgettable.
Had a wonderful dinner at Blue Water Cafe with my family on October 2. Definitely make a reservation in advance as they are quite busy. Our server, Melissa, was absolutely amazing! She was attentive throughout our entire meal and provided explanations for all of the dishes that we had ordered. I felt very comfortable and at ease with her service. Pictured in my review are the Char, Aburi Sablefish Battera Roll, and complimentary lemon poppy seed cakes. All were cooked to perfection! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
It’s our first time there and we’re celebrating our wedding anniversary. Phil was attentive and enthusiastic. He knows the menu well and makes good suggestions. Helped us take a few good photos too! =) Food was simply heavenly! Wagyu beef melts in your mouth and the seafood tower was a delight to our palates. We had a fantastic time and will definitely visit again!
This is it. This is the place you’ll want to put high on your list if you want fresh fish and seafood. Vancouver overall is a great place for seafood. But Blue Water Cafe levels up when it comes to sashimi and other sushi experience. Every piece of fish we had was so fresh and has the melts-in-your-mouth quality to them! For one of our dinners (we came here a few times!), we sat at the sushi bar and got to watched experienced sushi chefs prepare orders. It was amazing. Another night, we dined at the bar and also had a great time. The bar staff were friendly, professional, attentive, and have a great sense of humor. Beyond the staff who waited on us, everyone at Blue Water Cafe were stellar. They clearly have the masterclass in hospitality.
Overall, great seafood and wide variety of menu options to choose from. I’d suggest trying the halibut main dish. The patio is awesome! I found the service very slow unfortunately. We waited about 30 mins in between appetizers and the main dishes which was a buzzkill but aside from that, it was a good experience. Seems like they have a few too many tables to serve during peak times. The oysters were great.
We had a wonderful experience with the excellent service, delicious food, and cozy atmosphere. Everything was fantastic, and we plan to return.
A house with guaranteed service and taste
Stopped in for a nice business lunch. Wasnt too busy so open room was quiet. Probably louder if busy. More booths would help. But had a great luch. Excellent food, excellent service Parking: Public parking lot at the end of the street if you are not lucky enough to get one of the few street parking spots in Yale Town.
Stopped in for some quick aps and drinks. The sushi, oysters, and truffle fried we had were delicious
They serve the best hamachi in Vancouver. Since we first discovered the raw bar, weve been back many times. Because the bar is moon shaped and not linear, and the worktop is on display rather than shielded by a fridge, it is very interesting and entertaining. The raw fridge drawer is at the back behind the chefs, so we can see the amazing variety and fish they have each time they open the drawer. Sushi Chef Masaaki Kudo is scrupulously trained in Kyoto. We could tell from watching him prepare his fish that we will end up with the best pieces of hamachi imported from Japan. When we order sashimi, the temperature of the fish really matters to us. The Bluewater hamachi sashimi is served at the perfect temperature, cold and firm without sinew. Bluewater has so many talented chefs and a rich variety of produce. So they are able to craft off the menu item on-the-fly. Because of eczema, I cannot eat eggs, chicken, gluten and dairy which rules out rolls that contain mayonnaise. Watching them work at the sushi bar, we noticed that they hardly use mayo in their rolls. We love being able to order special items like a real crab hand roll without mayo. We also love that we can ask for a vegan main course with just vegetables. In our experience, not all the waiters can ask the kitchen for a stunning vegetable main dish. Liam served us tonight, and because he used to be a vegan, we ended up with a main consisted of green beans, broccolini, perfectly roasted rainbow carrots, 4 kinds of mushrooms, quinoa, edamame, and micro-greens which was absolutely delicious (and not messed around with until they are unrecognizable like in other vegan restaurants). Weve tried the booths and tables in the restaurant. I actually sat at a booth that gave me back ache because the seat was so worn out. Of the variety of tables they offer, we cant imagine eating at Bluewater Cafe without being at the raw bar.
Sablefish and Kobe short ribs are very delicious. Wagyu meatballs are also very tasty! However, Sushi platter is a bit disappointed.
Always and awesome experience from the quality of the dishes to the superlative genuine service -
Really enjoyed our evening. We had an amazing experience. Sometimes the service was slow but other wise the food and drinks were amazing.
Great wine selection fabulous food and exceptional service
Great spot. GF and I were in Vancouver for the weekend and read the good reviews for this place. Called for a last minute reservation which was unavailable, so we showed up right before 5 and got two seats at the bar. Ordered cocktails (all delicious) and wine by the glass (all very tasty) and ordered a seafood tower for dinner. Service was lovely, we really hit it off with the bartender by the time we were done with our meal. Seafood tower was great - all of it very fresh and well prepared. Definitely worth checking out if youre in the city. But try to make reservations, haha
Food was fresh and delicious. Service was great. Cocktail was good. Ambient was suitable for special occasions.
Great service great food !
great atmosphere, great food. Chris was amazing. He was very knowledgeable
Blue Water Cafe is an exceptional dining spot that impressed me with its outstanding food, stunning ambiance, and attentive service. The Mediterranean sea bream I ordered was perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and a true highlight of the meal. The beautifully designed interior created a serene and elegant atmosphere, perfect for any occasion. The polite and professional staff added to the experience, ensuring everything was seamless. A wonderful place I can t wait to revisit!
That was one of the ten best meals of my life--and Ive dined at dozens of Michelin-starred restaurants. Tara should be on faculty teaching food and wine; Ive never experienced such thoughtful recommendations and outstanding service.
Perfect food and good service
Service was exceptional. Food was excellent. Large selection.
Food was a disappointment, especially the stake! Maybe it wasnt my style but the steak had a very burnt like taste, not like a Chicago style or charcoal taste but a burnt bad taste. Everything else is great but I have no intentions on going back.
Had our early Christmas dinner here. Food is very delicious .
Food and service were remarkable.
The food and service are absolutely top-notch! Tara has been our server both times we were there, and she is amazing!
The service was exceptional. The other patrons were entertaining and the food was insane
Great seafood, fresh ingredients, amazing service. Never had a bad experience here. Dietary restrictions: They know their ingredients quite well, don t be afraid to ask them something specific. Parking: Yaletown sucks for parking.
Consistently the best of Vancouver.
Went for dinner with the family. The whole experience was absolutely amazing - the food, the service, the ambience. Everything is top notch. Will definitely be back.
Amazing experience at blue water cafe. Everything was top notch.
Wow! What a restaurant! Without question my favourite restaurant in Vancouver, every dish was perfect. Special mention to Brent who was amazing and made the night extra special.
If not the best, then definitely one of the top seafood restaurants in Vancouver. We hosted out of town guests and they were absolutely thrilled with the quality the west coast provides. Very fortunate to live in a city with such a great food scene!
Absolutely amazing. The food was great and Jennifer was incredible, Highly recommend it.
Everything were so good. We are happy and satisfied
Awesome!
The Server did an exceptional job. The ambience and food was excellent. I especially loved the crab and shrimp salad appetizer and the lime panne cotta for dessert. Super safe for Celiacs as well. Loved everything about it. Dietary restrictions: Celiac safe!
Very nice restaurant to enjoy wine with friends.
Great food. Had wonderful sashimi & stake dinner. Flat Iron wagyu was soft & melted in my mouth & miso broccolini was exceptional! Great cappuccino for after meal. Service was also pleasant but just a minor thing. 1) Server poured the sparkling water that s been opened for too long. 2) I was at the edge seat and my foot got stepped on a few times while the server changed the plates. Unfortunately no one said anything.
Phenomenal expierence. Great vibe, exceptionally great service, food was incredible.
I went at 9:30oclock, but couldnt go in because the kitchen was closed. I tried to understand, but seeing other customers try to enter, it seems like there is discrimination here. It is a place I will never visit again. What is more important than taste is that there should be no discrimination and consistency. It was very unpleasant.
Exceptional!! Fresh, tasty, well presented sushi. The service was very good. Only compliments.
Blue Water makes such an effort to make their guests feel welcome and enjoy an elevated experience. It was my first time there and Lawrence, our waitress, gave great recommendations and was so wonderful all round. The food is incredible, will definitely be going back to have more raw dishes. Really loved the whole experience!
Most amazing seafood restaurant
The food is excellent, as was the service. We went for dinner and had the Dungeness Crab Roll, the Stamina Roll and the Aburi Sablefish Battera, after starting with a sampling of oysters. The oysters were fresh, the rolls were skillfully made. Highly recommend everything we had and dont miss the Aburi Sableish Battera! This is a first-rate operation.
It was my favorite restaurant out of all the restaurants Ive been to in Vancouver :) I went with a friend from Toronto and was very satisfied. I recommend making a reservation in advance and visiting. The server Aaron was very friendly and explained things well. I tried the signature cocktail and it was okay. The atmosphere was nice and the menu was all delicious. The bread and butter served before the meal and the fish dish among the main dishes were truly memorable! And the seafood was great too. Recommended. And I had two desserts, and I recommend these too Planning to visit again!!
Utterly disappointing for an apparent icon in a coastal metropolis: Very few representations of local seasonal seafare; shamefully shallow old world wine program; a reprehensible levy for inappropriately modest dishes. Once a significant player in the Vancouver dining culture, the folks at Blue Water Cafe have found themselves complacent and wanting, greedily accepting tourist contributions for decades while offering few dividends in return on the table.
Everything was delicious. Service was outstanding.
Reliably tasty dishes, high quality ingredients. Service and comfort was exceptional as always - from the warm front-of-the house staff, to the attentive management of Adrienne and of course our favorite friendly and fun bar staff (Adam & Ben). We always feel very welcomed and cared for. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Ate here mid September. Booked in advance as Id visited a few years back and wanted to take rest of family here as it was so good then. The omens though were not good. It was not a pleasant evening. There was a chill in the air and the rain was relentless. In addition Id asked for a table on the patio. Nothing was a problem though. We did end up on the terrace but the awnings and the umbrellas dis a sterling job. The rain had no impact on us and the heaters kept us toasty. Our server that night was Aaron. Very enthusiastic and very good. Was there when he was needed and kept away when he wasnt. However he always kept an eye on us and was so helpful with the menu. We ordered items for the table that we could share including a shellfish tower. As my wife loves Lobster she had that to herself. Everything was just fantastic. Food, drinks and service with a great atmosphere. Its a long way from the UK but might just be worth booking another trip to a great region of the world Wheelchair accessibility: My is in a wheelchair. No problem
Blue Water Cafe in Yaletown is truly one of our favorite spots! The food is always freshly prepared, and the oyster bar is simply magnificent. We usually come in for the first seating, before it gets crowded, and every time, we receive marvelous service. The wine list is vast, with plenty of excellent options, and the cocktails are top-notch as well. We especially love the sablefish it never disappoints! The combination of high-quality food and a great atmosphere keeps us coming back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!
Came here for a birthday celebration and Blue Water Cafe delivered way beyound our expectation. Sea food quality and selection was one of the best we had while visiting Vancouver. Restaurant atmosphere were top notch and our server were very friendly and attentative. He helped us split the food that we ordered into two equal portions for us to share without us even having to ask. Really wish we can come here more often, and for sure we will be paying another visit the next time when we visit vancouver!
Had an amazing dining experience at Blue Water Cafe on my honeymoon! Exceptional service and the sashimi, sushi, and wagyu beef were incredible.
Blue Water Cafe never disappoints, has to be one of the top three restaurants in Vancouver. Always consistent with excellent quality and service, it was highlighted recently in a private wine tasting and dinner in a beautiful small room I didn t know was there. The food was exquisite, the service was perfectly timed and delivered.
We celebrated a birthday, spent an amazing evening on the patio in the restaurant, very tasty, wonderful serai, really liked it, we recommend.
A very good restaurant with a main focus on fish and sushi. You should definitely make a reservation as it is very busy. The price-performance ratio is very good for Canadian standards. They also serve Wagu beef and a very large selection of sushi. A look at the bar menu is recommended because of the huge selection of whiskeys. Cooking takes place in an open kitchen.
The best fresh seafood and sushi you will ever have anywhere. Request the Sushi bar and watch the experience. Brent our server was so awesome we actually ordered every one of his recommendations and 100 percent perfectly done.
Average service once we order a bottle of wine priced at only $100 - food was adequate but average - good atmosphere for a Monday night.
The food was delicious and Michael our waiter was very professional!
Went again as we havent been in a while. Still one of the best in town. Everything was good, but Sablefish and Panna cotta were the stars of the evening. Still recommend and will definitely return!
Some of the best food Ive ever had. All so fresh and tasty.
Blue Water Cafe is one of my favorite spots in Vancouver for an unforgettable dining experience! I highly recommend starting with the Jumbo Prawn Cocktail the prawns are fresh, perfectly chilled, and paired with a tangy sauce that complements them beautifully. For the main course, the Pacific sablefish is a standout. The miso glaze and buttery texture of the fish were amazing, and the accompanying truffle dashi broth added a luxurious touch. Don t leave without trying one of their desserts! The Warm Dark Chocolate Cake is rich and decadent, while the Lime Panna Cotta is a lighter, refreshing option that balances the meal perfectly. If you re looking for incredible seafood and desserts, Blue Water Cafe is a must!
We dined in on a rainy Saturday night. We were seated in a heated outdoor patio, which had a great ambiance. The food was delicious and our waiter was kind and attentive. Dietary restrictions: Can accommodate shellfish allergies.
A smart relaxed restaurant with lovely staff. Food is amazing and beautifully cooked and presented. A real treat. Food
Always world class best of the best food And cocktails Food
We went for our 50th anniversary dinner celebration and it was sublime! The food was so fresh and outstanding! Melissa took such a good care of us. We couldnt have asked for a better evening! I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Best fish ever
Had a fabulous dinner at Blue Water last night. Enjoyed everything from the beautiful patio, wonderful service to the great food and drinks. Our server was Michael (maybe Mikey) and he was extremely helpful and kind. He made wonderful menu recommendations and was attentive throughout the dinner. We started with the The Gardener + Elderflower gin cocktail and it was delicious and refreshing. Our table then shared the Bruschetta, Dynamite roll and the Aburi Sablefish Battera and they were all amazing! For mains we tried the Baked Bay Scallops + Parmesan Crust the main dish Scallops as well as the Halibut. Again, all the dishes were wonderful. I would highly recommend stopping by!
Blue water is an awesome restaurant as a whole! My sister and I came here for dinner and had their calamari, lobster and sea bass! Oh boy was it great! Our server was amazing!!!! I highly recommend this place.
We ventured into Yaletown on day two of our visit to Vancouver. Wow, what a happening place! There are so many restaurants here Such a lively vibe! I ordered a bottle of 2019 Checkmate Queens Taken Chardonnay from their Dekleva Vineyard. Generous fruit, including peach, pear and nectarine it offered a balance of acidity and a rich, mineral finish. The menu is extensive We ended up ordering ten dishes, mainly raw ones. We started with six oysters ($28), two each from Effingham, Shigoku and Barstool. Our server (Melissa) recommended Effingham, but we found the other two to be superior. My favorite was the Barstool. Next up, Halibut Tataki ($22.50, fourteen slices of halibut, dressed with yuzu kosho / tonburi / ponzu sauce. I d never had raw halibut It was delicate, similar to sea bream (to me). Next was unagi and Hamachi nigiri the unagi was fine but the Hamachi lacked the coloration and taste I m accustomed to. Our main dishes were beef sashimi and halibut. There were fourteen slices of beef tenderloin ($23) dressed with a yu kke sauce (soy, ginger, garlic, red pepper and sesame), garlic chips and chopped scallions. This was very good, tender and flavorful. The Johnstone Strait Halibut ($52.50) was served with braised kohirabi, baby carrots, sea asparagus, whipped bintje potatoes, chanterelle mushrooms, with a smoked oyster beurre blanc. Halibut is delicate and this dish was a visual treat. We ordered sauteed baby spinach ($10) as a side. The finale was a Black Forest Cake Bar ($16), white and dark chocolate mousse layered with griotine cherries and topped with wafers of chocolate, accompanied by a quenelle of Morello cherry gelato. This was a visual sensation! We enjoyed our time at Blue Water Café though we felt the cost to be a little high for the food and wine served. The nigiri sushi didn t meet our expectations; every other dish was fine.
The food in this restaurant is like from another planet. We are repeat offenders - 7 years ago we were guests at the blue water café every evening in Vancouver. During our stay this year we also chose the blue water café on both evenings. Food, ambience and service (friendly, courteous, unobtrusive, knowledge of food and wine on offer) were at the usual excellent level. It was a crowning conclusion to our Alaska/Canada vacation. Many thanks to the entire blue water café team for the lovely evenings!
The food was excellent, a must visit on any visit to Vancouver. Every meal is truly a dream and we can only recommend everyone to come here, especially to be able to eat fish of the quality on offer. We had the swordfish, tuna, scallops, halibut, sashimi & nigiri, sorbet and warm chocolate cake. Vegetarian options: There are individual vegetarian dishes. Dietary restrictions: Available on request Parking: No parking spaces available Kid-friendliness: No Wheelchair accessibility: Is at ground level and accessible with a wheelchair ramp.
I dont know how they can improve. I moved away from Vancouver in 2008, and knew that if I ever returned, I would have dinner at Blue Water Cafe. After my 16-year absence, the experience was just as delightful as before. We have recommended it to many friends and colleagues over the years. Im glad to see that Blue Water Cafe remains a quality find for food and price. Im looking forward to my next opportunity to visit.
Very Friendly staffs
We had an excellent meal. Sushi as a starter, as a main course, tuna for me, beef for my husband, both incredible, and dessert with chocolate fondant. A very good time and I highlight the service by Sheena, very friendly!
I recommend this restaurant. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. My family and I had a pleasant dinner here.
Great sushi. Very high quality.
You can get better seafood elsewhere. Our server, Chris, was the most condescending server Ive ever had in an establishment. Do better.
Great meal! A bit expensive but really worth the money. Good quality, refined dishes.
Seafood Tower was worth it!! The drinks were on point. A lovely birthday dinner! Thank you. Food : 5/5
Dined here for the first time, a couple days ago. Was seated at the sushi table and Jiro made some excellent sushi rolls. He was also super polite and warm! The food was par excellence. But I must say our server had a very condescending tone. He was rather senior in age, so I didn t wish to point that out. But when my partner and I, tried handing over the plates after being done (as a show of help/respect), he made condescending comments about my partner to his face. We were quite surprised but again didn t want to ruin anyone s night, so we just asked for the cheque and left. We ve both worked in the service industry and deeply value folks who work in it but it s quite disheartening to be treated as if you re lesser.
One of, if not the, best restaurant Ive ever been to. The food and drinks were all excellent. The food is unique and creative, and the chefs create flavors that are unexpected (in a good way). The cocktails are amazing, the seafood is incredibly fresh, and the desserts are excellent. Sitting on the patio has a wonderful atmosphere covered in greenery. The inside is beauiful as well. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. I cannot say enough good things. Definitely a must eat while in Vancouver.
Stumbled into this place (on accident) because I was hungry and the name reminded me of one of my favorite restaurants in Newport Beach, CA Bluewater Grill. From USA and here on work My experience literally raised the bar on seafood & service. Sat at the bar and had the hamachi collar and halibut Martin - it was an absolute pleasure to have shared a few hours with you. Thank you for making my experience outstanding. I will bring my girl friend with me next time and look forward to hear how your trip to Cabo was! Cheers mate!
Great food and atmosphere!
As self-proclaimed food enthusiasts, we approached this much-hyped restaurant with eager anticipation, particularly after reading such glowing reviews. However, our experience left much to be desired. We dined on a busy weekday evening, September 5th, and while a bustling restaurant often signifies popularity, in this case, it translated into an overwhelming and almost frenetic atmosphere. The space, draped in dim lighting with a lounge-like vibe, failed to offer any sense of warmth or welcome. The continuous flurry of movement waitstaff, sommeliers, floor managers, and busboys made it feel more like the chaotic rush of a train station than an intimate dining experience. The meal itself, sadly, did little to redeem the ambience. Our selection of starters, including the Shellfish Plateau, Salmon Sashimi, and Hamachi, set the tone for the evening disappointing. One would think with raw dishes, especially at this price point, it would be difficult to go astray. However, the kitchen s choice to serve the salmon sashimi drenched in an overly smoky soy sauce completely obliterated the delicate flavors of the fish. As for the Hamachi, I was startled to discover that it oddly evoked the flavor of ham a bizarre and unexpected note that left me questioning the freshness and preparation. For the main courses, we opted for their signature Sablefish and the Yellowfin Tuna. The latter, unfortunately, arrived overcooked and dry, accompanied by a burnt potato nest that was wholly inedible. The romesco sauce was overly acidic, and the grilled lettuce felt like a misplaced afterthought. The dish lacked cohesion, with flavors clashing rather than harmonizing. Each bite was a struggle to make sense of. My boyfriend sampled the Sablefish, and while he acknowledged that it was well-prepared, it failed to impress or stand out in any meaningful way. Ultimately, the restaurant s ambition was not matched by its execution. The experience felt disjointed, and at the end of the evening, we were left wondering how such mediocrity commanded such a steep price tag.
Overhyped, definitely expected much more. Server was good, food was average. Not sure if I d come back here, you can get much more at other places for the price. I give it a 6/10
Excellent meal. Great service. Beautiful location!
I was disappointed with their polenta with black truffle miso. I found the dish too salty. Kitchen was kind enough to make me a new one without the truffle miso but I still found the polenta to be salty on its own. I was actually expecting the polenta to be kinda creamy in consistency but they actually serve a harder baked version here. I still took it to go in hopes of salvaging it because it s pricey and didn t wanna waste food lol.. Anyway I really liked the seared scallops and their drinks too. Restaurant vibe reminded me of Elisa.
On the recommendation from our Airbnb host, we chose this restaurant, eager to experience a variety of seafood and hoping that each dining experience on our Vancouver trip would create a lasting memories, especially for my son as he prepares to enter college. First, I d like to express my gratitude to our waitress, Eliane. She was warm, friendly, enthusiastic, and incredibly patient, offering us valuable insights into the styles, dishes, and flavors of Blue Water Cafe and also other Vancouver restaurants we attempted to explore. Her advice helped us approach our dining choices in a more thoughtful, structured way throughout our trip. Back to the food, we ordered two rounds of oysters (Effinghan, Kusshi, Sunseeker), a sashimi platter (which was a pleasant surprise it was on par with the fresh sashimi I ve had in Japan), steamed lobster (1.5 lbs), Kobe beef, sablefish, halibut, petite fours, and ribs. And their cocktail is awesome. Every dish was exceptional, bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors that lingered long after we returned to our Airbnb. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves authentic seafood.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Tara was an amazing representative of what professional, engaging wait staff can be like! Thank you for all the special touches of making the celebration of two 70th birthdays a wonderful, memory-filled evening.
Our food was exemplary - some of the best seafood weve ever had. The waiter was one of best weve ever had worldwide. Cant wait until we return to Vancouver again and dine at the Blue Water Cafe!
The best
Blue Water Cafe is a Vancouver staple. It is well known, and is situated in Yaletown. How much one likes the restaurant? I would suggest it caters to a specific demographic (purely based on age). When you look around, the average age is 45-70. I ll break this down a little further. The restaurant does everything well. The menu is diverse and extensive, but we re talking over 2 dozen items. There is sashimi, seafood, mains it goes on and on. Here s the challenge. It does everything well, but it doesn t do anything GREAT (outside of the service, which was phenomenal for us). In Vancouver, you know you re getting great sushi / sashimi from Minami (in the neighborhood). You know you re getting great seafood from Okini/Joe Fortes. You re getting great creativity from Published. At Blue Water, everything is GOOD but the items are priced at the great tier. It s a bit strange when Elisa, a restaurant next door owned by the same company, has a similar menu - but it does everything better. With Millennials and Gen Z etc, I would imagine those demographics may find it more to their taste with other restaurants (including Elisa). These demographics looks for speciality items (e.g. the wow moment/bite). I would also suggest they may find better value elsewhere from a glance around us, that s certainly what the sample bias suggested. We re glad we went and tried a well known staple. We wouldn t necessarily return, but certainly understand how others may feel different. It s not bad by any means! For us, it just felt like the brand didn t fully align to the experienceness we hoped for.
My spouse and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at Blue Water Cafe for the first time, and it was absolutely magical! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism, setting the perfect tone for a special evening. The ambiance was elegant yet cozy, with soft lighting and an inviting, sophisticated décor that was perfect. Now, onto the highlight the food! As seafood lovers, we were beyond impressed with the freshness and variety of the menu. We ordered the Blue Water Cafe Seafood Tower, which was an absolute showstopper impeccably signature three tier tower with oysters, prawns, clams, mussels, jellyfish salad, salmon tartar, seared black pepper-crusted red tuna, scallop ceviche, tuna Goma-ae, spicy tuna roll, crab roll and 1lb Lobster that showcased the quality of the ingredients. The service was also outstanding. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, we felt taken care of throughout the night without ever being intrusive. They even surprised us with a complimentary dessert to mark the occasion, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the evening even more special. Blue Water Cafe exceeded all our expectations and made our anniversary truly unforgettable. If youre looking for an exquisite dining experience with top-notch seafood, this is the place. Highly recommended for any special occasion!
The food was excellent; however, our (first-time) experience was slightly ruined by two things 1. The waiter kept pouring wine after every few sips before the glass was empty. He was polite and clearly wanted to be attentive and do a good job, but I feel like a place like this should train the servers better and teach them that another round of wine is poured only when the glass is empty. We felt pushed to drink as fast as possible, and maybe order more. 2. Toward the end of our meal, the waiter came to our table to let us know about the 2-hour table reservation. That was 1.35 hours into our reservation, and we had already finished our meal and were finishing our last glass of wine. We were clearly going to leave soon, and the reminder felt unnecessary and uncalled for. These little things ruined our experience, and I hope the managers read this and work on these details with the front staff.
Been here before for drinks and the bar is always lively for the Yaletown nights but this time had the dining experience. Our server Vee did a great job serving our table and was super knowledgeable of the menu with great recommendations. We went for the oysters that of course did not disappoint. Tried the lobster tail and A5 wagyu - exceptional taste. Good experience dining in. Great seafood spot all around. Will be back. A+
We tried this restaurant for the first time. The food was good. However, the fish and chips that I ordered for my kids, in one of the pieces there was fish bone. Also, the vegetable on sablefish was not washed properly .
We had such a special evening here! Our waiter was wonderful and made the whole experience special! The chef s sushi s selection was something very special! Thank you Blue Water Café!
Fish restaurant of very high quality. There were 4 of us who all chose different dishes from the menu and all the servings were of a high class. The service was also of high quality. Good guidance and good timing of the serving. Best dining experience during our 3 week vacation in Canada.
One of my favourite places to dine in Vancouver. Love the new summer patio menu! A lovely way to enjoy the afternoon surrounded by gardens, amazing service and delicious food. Highly recommend the sushi or sablefish dinner.
This place was all the stars and service from Michael was too notch. The wine list was exquisite and had exclusive BC wines, this was the best white the whole trip! Do not sleep on the sushi, it was flawless execution. The Halibut was to perfection, the mushrooms were such a compliment and tender. Just do it, go, drop the loot, enjoy the experience.
All of the food we had was exceptionally fresh and delicious. Everything was so healthy and prepared well. Service was awesome! Our server knew the menu and had convincing recommendations on all of our choices
Sable fish is a must have!!
Excellent food! Exceptional service! Had the sablefish. Try it, you wont regret it.
This was a splurge girls night out. We decided to have caviar which I would normally not order but, special occasion. It was presented nicely with all of the nice sides- egg, chives etc. the bread it was served with was nice but a lot of food. I think a smaller flatter bread option would be better as an accompaniment. It was super filling. We had a sockeye salmon roll which we enjoyed. A tomato salad. Next came a seafood tasting for 2 which only had one standout - tuna tartare. The others were ok, not great. Would not order that again. The final dish was the sable fish entree which was our favorite, waiter talked us into adding a scallop each which was not needed and just ok. My one bit of feedback is the waiter was helping us with our order and quantity and this was an absurd amount of food, the addition of scallops to the final course was excessive and would not have thought to do it without the upselling.
The Blue Water Cafe in Vancouver is a tremendous restaurant worth visiting. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Service across the board is first rate - hosts, wait staff and servers. Their knowledge and enthusiasm of the menu makes difficult choices easy. I had the Bluefin tuna and a tomato lobster bisque. Both meals were flawless in presentation and quality. This is a place that I will go back to again and again. Our waitress was an absolute standout. If you love seafood, this is a place you must try.
Delicious sushi rolls, the scallops and crab ones were fantastic! The seafood ceviche incredible and so fresh.
Wonderful food and dining experience. Best seafood I have had. Super fresh sushi rolls. Sable fish was cooked perfectly and tasted great.
While visiting Vancouver we had dinner at Blue Water Cafe. It far exceeded our expectations! The food as well as the wine and cocktails were outstanding. The only thing better was the service. Our waiter was Antoine. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu. He made excellent suggestions and did an amazing job of suggesting pairings when we asked. We sat on the patio where the entire staff we interacted with was lovely. We liked it so much, we canceled our reservations the next night and returned to Blue Water Cafe. Big shout out to the GM, Adrian and Kevin as well.
Our waitress Jennifer was very informative and expressed an exuberance that carried over to the meal itself. I can see why this restaurant was packed and I agree with all of the 5 star reviews online. Excellent experience!
Blue Water is always a 10/10. Pro tip: sit at the bar.
We dont get there very often but when we do we always thoroughly enjoy the experience! The food was exceptionally good this time around! Well done! And thank you!
The food, service and atmosphere were all perfect. I would recommend it when you have an anniversary or something to celebrate. However, the last dessert was tasteless and tasteless.
Laurence was a so helpful and explained the menu, oyster choices and her recommendations were on point. She was such a cutie as well. We loved every bite!
Beautiful place in the heart of Yaletown. Great atmosphere, outstanding service, special kuddos to our waiter for his endless pacience. One member of our party was so difficult to please, I felt embarrassed, and I appreciate his professionalism. The food is delicious. We got the ribs, halibut, and chicken. For sure, its a place I would come back and recommend.
An exceptional dining experience in every way! We came here as a family with our children (8 - 11) for a birthday celebration while on vacation. The food selection is outstanding. Great variety and everything we ordered was super fresh, perfectly prepared and presented, and very tasty. My wife in particular loved the live sea urchin. The Snake River Farms steak was exquisitly prepared. Oysters and other shellfish great. The service was outstanding and the executive chef came to visit us at our table. The Sommelier is great and they have a very good selection of Canadian wines. He helped guide us and we ended up being able to taste a good variety of wines over the course of the evening. All around thumbs up and cant wait to visit again.
This was our favorite restaurant we went to in Vancouver! Coming from Texas we were very excited to try the diverse cuisine in Vancouver, and Blue Water was our last dinner before we left and we were very impressed! The food quality was amazing, the drinks and atmosphere was lovely, and our server Melissa was very knowledgeable and patient with us. She really made the experience worthwhile and we thank her very much for making our evening amazing! Would definitely go back next time we visit Vancouver! If you re a fan of seafood, this restaurant is a must try!
Food is fresh and prepared well. Service is exceptional. A fantastic experience. Will definitely return for more.
Must try: the sable fish, the halibut tataki, and the sushi (dungeness crab, scallop, blue tuna). Our server Elaine was so incredible. She knew the menu inside and out and gave us such great recommendations. The sommelier (I wish I could remember his name - a lovely bearded fellow) gave us the PERFECT recommendation for sake! 10/10 experience.
The food and service were excellent. Recommend trying the whole fish to share. Im glad to live walking distance to this restaurant. Vegetarian options: One of our party was gluten, soy and corn free and they had no problem accommodating us.
Came here for our anniversary dinner. Food is decent but extremely overpriced which was definitely not warranted for what we had. The wait time for the dishes was incredibly long, it took them an hour and a half after we ordered our entrees to bring them out and when we asked our waitress about the status, she gave us a snarky response like oh, this is not fast food and I was thinking wow it s almost 10pm and she s saying that?! Ridiculous and we don t see anything worthwhile here to return.
Thursday, August 15th 2024 for dinner, we were seated directly next to a violent couple where we witnessed first hand the slamming of fists on the table, cursing loudly and repeatedly, and the tossing of chairs, all of which escalated throughout the night. At first I thought they were mentally impaired, but finally realized that these individuals simply had no respect for their surroundings or other people while they continued their personal argument. Furthermore, I witnessed the complete and utter failure of restaurant management to address the compromised safety of all nearby customers, and the safety of their own staff members who were clearly and without a doubt under distress when waiting on tables nearby, including our own. I will admit, looking back, I also failed by not leaving the restaurant with my wife to remove us from the situation. We are not the type of people to look for comped meals, but the restaurant deserved no money from its customers that night. I should have brought cash so I could tip our stellar waitress without handing money to the establishment. I saw one person address the couple, but they went right back to their previous behavior. I witnessed the other table next to us leave or relocate. Restaurant management did not check in on anyone that I could tell to see if they were okay, and did not check in on my wife and I. We were surprised at the complete lack of management presence and were also surprised these individuals were not removed from the restaurant and were allowed to carry on with their behavior. This was similar to behavior you would see in bars. If whoever was in charge that night is supposed to represent the business as well as the countrys citizens, I was completely disappointed.
Was visiting from the US and their sablefish was the best fish I have had this year and likely among the top 3 seafood dishes I have ever had. Cheers Cannot wait to be back one day.
Great food and service
Best fine dining seafood section. Revisit after it receives stars and still worth it
Wonderful meal. Polished, welcoming staff. Spectacular dinner!! Food
Wonderful food and service. Expensive. Kid-friendliness: Doesnt seem like a good place for kids. Food : 5/5 |
I came here with a group and we were treated so well. They were able to accommodate a vegan in the group as well as celiac. The server we had was very knowledgeable on the ingredients and warned me of unsafe items. The yellow fish was absolutely delicious and will be back just for that alone. Dietary restrictions: Celiac Safe
We have dined at BWC quite a few times over the last few years and are always impressed by the consistently high standards - keep it up!
Aaron was phenomenal, service was great, food was great.
Just had one of the best meals we have ever had and our waiter Michael was even more than you would expect at a five star restaurant. Thank you Michael and Chef
Tera was our waitress and she was fantastic. Knew the menu word for word and provided exceptional service. Dinner was fantastic!!! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options provided
Wonderful food. Went twice during a 6 day visit because it was soooo good.
We had an excellent dinner at Blue Water! We loved all the local selections of wine, fish, caviar etc. The service was notably excellent. We over ordered and our server was actually able to cancel one of our dishes - very much appreciated!
Amazing all around!
Food is good but not a wow type of delicious. Service is also good but quite a wait for the dishes. Table was wobbling a bit . Generally good vibes but a little bit loud.
My dining experience at Blue Water exceed my expectations. I will certainly be recommending this restaurant to friends and family, and I look forward to visiting again soon .
Amazing seafood! Get the tower! Pass on the Mediterranean snapper
Fantastic food, wonderful services, great atmosphere. I was invited having never been and was pleasantly surprised
I dont even know where to start! Our server Elaine curated a beautiful evening for us. Her wine and oyster recommendations started our evening out on an amazing foot, and the kitchen blew us away with the delicious bay scallop appetizer. We were even more stunned by the incredible sea bass that we shared - how was that only $61? And when we didnt think it could get any better, we nearly licked our cheesecake plate clean. Our dinner last night was one of the best that my partner and I have shared together. Thank you for making our last night in Vancouver so special.
Great food, wine and service.
The dining experience at this establishment was nothing short of exceptional. The food and service were impeccable, creating an evening that was truly memorable. The sushi, in particular, stood out as a highlight. As connoisseurs of sushi and sashimi my wife being Japanese and myself having lived in Japan for three years we found the quality to be of the highest caliber. The otoro was especially noteworthy, boasting a richness and melt-in-your-mouth texture that is rarely encountered outside of Japan. The excellence did not end with the sushi. The carrot soup was an unexpected delight, bursting with flavor and perfectly balanced. The sablefish was cooked to perfection, each bite revealing its delicate, buttery texture. Though we relished 24 oysters at The Parlour (another highly recommended venue), which left us too satiated to indulge in dessert, we did take some madeleines to go. These madeleines proved to be a delightful breakfast accompaniment to coffee the following morning, extending our enjoyment of this culinary gem. In summary, this restaurant offers a dining experience that is refined, sophisticated, and deeply satisfying. Each dish is crafted with precision and passion, making it a must-visit for any lover of fine cuisine.
Was excited to try this place as we dont get much fresh seafood. But it was pretty mediocre for the price point. Calamari was decent. The scallop dish was okay (it had an element that was very out of place on the plate but tasted great). Lobster was rubbery. He also brought me the $50 sashimi instead of the $20 roll that I ordered. Funny how that upsell works. (And I had better fish at a sushi place that afternoon at a fraction of the price). The service was a bit pretentious, though Id have to guess that it was the servers style as opposed to the restaurants policy (he seemed full of himself). The atmosphere is a bit creaky and rustic-feeling, which I dont mind, but it could use an update on vibe. Though Im sure the boomer clientele wouldnt mind it. Overall, the meal was okay. But at that price point, you dont want okay. You want to remember it for years to come. I wouldnt go back.
Please check my reservation from Sunday July 7th at 8:00 under Nicholas Samiefard. Our server was extraordinary and we d love it if she received commendation for that. I simply forgot her name. Internet this place is insane. Food
I recommend this restaurant. Amazing food.
A fantastic place for a memorable night. We tried the Seafood Tower and it was amazing. Very good selection of drinks as well.
The service here was excellent, maybe a little too much to the point that it was making my social anxiety very nervous. They have a wide choice of alcohol, including wine and beer, and a lot of good non-alcoholic options as well. The food is very good and obviously comes in small portions. I had a stamina roll and sablefish aburi, and also tried the sablefish filet, the broccolini with sesame sauce and the pork cheeks. For dessert we had the lime panna cotta, sorbet and creme brulee. You also get coffee treats after your meal.
Fine dining place with many choices of seafood and beef. Sushi bar is also very good. Outstanding service as well. Food
Celebrated our second anniversary here. They left us a lovely note for our anniversary. The staff was very friendly! We definitely went in with high expectations. Left thinking it was just okay. I recommend the Panna cotta, and sangria. I dont recommend getting sushi here. Fresh ingredients are used but just doesnt compare to a sushi restaurant. The popular sable fish was just okay as well as the tenderloin steak. We just felt we could recreate the same food at home. Just wasnt unique or flavorful enough for us.
Everything about this place is amazing. We had the same sushi as well as other Texas usually and everything was absolutely delicious. Adam the bartender was really amazing and it service was impeccable
Generally overpriced for what you get. Seafood tower very good and recommended. Lobster was tasteless, definitely not worth the price. Service was caring, but slow. We ll not come back.
Excellent
Absolutely amazing food and service. The best meal we had on our month long holiday in Canada. Flavours were on point and everything cooked to perfection. Outdoor setting on the patio was perfect.
Dietary restrictions: They will cater to any dietary restrictions Food
10/10 Walked up to the bar. Friends to the left, friends to the right, friends across the bar. They were strangers 5 seconds before we arrived! This place has a vibe to create conversations that start with the food and drink then leads to everything else. Thank you Adam for making some off menu magic cocktails! Thank you chefs for epicurian excellence!
I recently attended a birthday dinner in the private room at Blue Water, and unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. From the start, the servers were unwelcoming, which set a negative tone for the evening. The wait for drinks was extremely long, and it was difficult to get the attention of the staff to place orders. When we finally received our drinks, the delays continued throughout the meal. The menu was a set menu, and I chose the sablefish. Sadly, it was underwhelming and did not live up to the expectations I had for a restaurant of this reputation. Overall, the combination of poor service and mediocre food made for a less than enjoyable evening.
Had the afternoon menu on the patio - absolutely amazing.
Great, friendly and unobtrusive service. The food was delicious. I had lobster which was set off for me and the appetizer cake stand for 2 was amazing!
Blue Water has been one of our consistent go-to places to hit up when were looking for a good seafood tower. Recently, we came back to celebrate a special occasion and ordered the Blue Water Cafe Tower which is a 3-tier assortment of mussels, clams, oysters, prawns as well as tuna tataki, salmon tartare, jellyfish, scallop ceviche, spicy tuna roll, real crab California roll, tuna gommae, and lobster. Super fresh and super tasty. Also super filling. Update July 2024: We dont make it down to Blue Water very often but one of our fav items to try is their shellfish on ice. They have 3 different options... each builds an additional tier of yummy seafood. Last year, we had their Shellfish Plateau but this year we opted for the full 3-tier Blue Water Cafe Tower ($205) with oysters, prawns, clams, mussels, jellyfish salad, salmon tartar, seared black pepper-crusted red tuna, scallop ceviche, tuna Goma-ae, spicy tuna roll, crab roll and 1lb Lobster. Super fresh seafood. Finished our meal with a trio of sorbet including coconut, apricot, and white peach.
Excellent seafood selection
Wow. One of tbe best meals we had during our time in Vancouver last week. Highly recommend their shellfish plateau- such a treat of fresh seafood, it was incredible. You can also never go wrong with fresh sushi. Overall, amazing experience with food and service. Thanks for a great night- we will be back!
Is the one that youll return frequently and enjoy each time.
Everything was just phenomenal. Thank you so much for making a family celebration so memorable. And a particular thank you to Laurence who was so friendly, knowledgeable, funny and just all around fab! Best dining experience the three of us have had in ages!
Our server was Best restaurant experience to date! Food
The sablefish and chocolate laca cake were AMAZING
This place is special. I mean that in every sense of the word. The food was magical, the service was phenomenal (thank you Sheena!) And the experience was just spectacular. For a special occasion this place is wonderful. The cost is not something we can do for an every day indulgence, but again for a special evening and for the quality of that meal, it was well worth the price.
Wonderful dining experience. Great fresh seafood. Service was excellent. Good wine list. First time visit to Vancouver. Will do this restaurant again.
Stellar spot for Vancouvers freshest seafood. Excellent wine list, terrific service.
The green salad was just okay. The main dishes were good but took a long time to arrive. It was expensive Vegetarian options: Only one main vegetarian dish
Absolutely the best !!!! The staff is amazing
Went for dinner while in town. The food was delicious. The wait staff was fun and friendly. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend
El Mercado on the rocks
Im from Japan! Highly recommended for those traveling from Japan! Every dish was exquisite! There was also a Japanese chef, so I felt at ease! Its a very popular restaurant so you may need to make a reservation.
Ideal dinner spot. Been here a few times and never disappoints. By far the best seafood tower in Vancouver, its a must.
I attended a private party for 100 of Mark Wiens favourite Realtors at this venue and the service and food was incredible!
Great experience
Consistently one of the best restaurants in town.
An excellent place for good drinks and amazing oysters and sushi. The service is top notch!
Awesome experience food and atmosphere were amazing
Fantastic food, the fish is an absolute dream. Service is impeccable and the ambience is great. 5 stars are absolutely justified!
