Good overall experience. For a Michelin restaurant we were expecting small portions but were pleasantly impressed with ample plates. Cassidy was our server. She was super friendly, attentive and helpful. The only sad face emoji was when we were met and sat by the hostess. Kind of a sour reception and seating… but quickly improved when our server arrived.

Our plans got canceled last minute and we ended up in the neighbourhood so we went to Fable for brunch. First I need to say that the service was stellar from the person who seated us to our server. I also loved the atmosphere it’s small, cosy and convivial with brick walls and interesting local art. We ordered the French toast, pulled pork Johnny cakes and the fable breakfast…I paid $2 to upgrade it to a “Trucker’s breakfast” and got one small pancake for that, would not do that again - disappointing. I tasted everything - the blueberry bourbon sauce with the French toast was exceptional and the pulled pork was delicious. Also liked that the hot sauce came in a group of 3 - mild, medium and hot. What a great idea!! Otherwise the food we tried was standard breakfast fare. All three items were $20 or less which for this city is definitely considered good value. We enjoyed our visit and would absolutely go again.

Oh my god! I loved all the dishes we ordered! Each dish has its own character and was tasty!! Kale salad was the best salad I’ve ever had! Duck breast had smokey maple taste and it was so soft! And mushroom was crispy and had a little bit of saltiness! Our server was friendly and nice and gave us a great recommendation! I will 1000% visit again if I ever go to Vancouver again! Highly recommend:)

If I could give more than 5 starts I would do it. This cozy restaurant was truly a revelation. We chose the tasting menu with the wine pairing and we were in for a treat with every single dish. We also took their homemade bread snd it did not disappoint. I highly recommend!!

We enjoyed a delightful brunch at Fable Kitchen! The bustling atmosphere was lively, but our warm and friendly server made us feel right at home. Their recommendations were spot on, and we appreciated the personalized touch. The Vegetarian Fable Omelette and Fable Breakfast were both generous, fresh, and delicious. The dishes arrived promptly, and we savored every bite. The lattes were also well-crafted and added to the pleasant experience. Overall, Fable Kitchen served up a wonderful brunch with excellent service. We'd definitely return and recommend it to others. The only thing keeping it from a full 5 stars was the bustling noise level, but that's a minor quibble in an otherwise great experience.

Had a great breakfast the other day. I was shocked that on a Sunday morning there wasn’t a huge line out the door like some other breakfast spots. Perhaps we timed it just right. The restaurant was cute and clean, had good menu options and the service was great. Our table tried the Veggie Benny, Kitsilano Vegan Bowl and the Fable Omelette. Everything was very good and had unique flavors. Our friend couldn’t stop raving about the chorizo jam in his omelette. We will definitely be back!

Nice atmosphere. We’ve enjoyed our dinner and service was attentive. The only two complaints: 1) they didn’t tell you up front that they didn’t have the pork belly but to find out when we were ordering. 2) they couldn’t make one of their cocktail because missing one of the component. We were then thinking what else would not be available from the menu. The best dish of our dinner choice tonight was the duck meatball.

3.2. Not a great experience at Fable. We had a lot of dietary restrictions at our table - we chose a chef-y, farm to table, nicer restaraunt because we figured it would be easy to accommodate our needs but it wasn’t. The server tried to accommodate us but I could tell he was frustrated with all the allergies and needing to go back and forth to the kitchen. We were told what we could eat but there was a ton of back and forth and I think a considerable amount of exasperation. The food was okay. Really not blown away at all. Ordered the duck and lentils and then one of the steaks. Was told the jam could not be eaten, the steak then came with the jam on top. We had to send it back, they remade it for us but our friends were already done their meals. The server comped the steak which was very nice of him but I think at this point the ship had kind of sailed. It wasn’t the worst, and I imagine without allergies the experience would be a lot more positive. The wait for food was REALLY long. Cocktails were good! Atmosphere was nice.

We had to wait a long time before a hostess came to check in with us. The servers seemed uninterested and not that friendly. I ordered the glory breakfast sandwhich, and it was mediocre at best. The ketchup for the potatoes came in a small skinny jar that was too small for the potatoes, so dipping wasnt an option; I had to scoop the ketchup out with a knife and put it on my food. The atmosphere was nice and cozy though.

Meh. I don t know what the hype is about for this place. I ordered a medium well steak and got a dry, well done one. For the prices, and reputation, this is unacceptable. They were also unwilling to cater to dairy allergies, under the notion of the chefs are too passionate about their menus and would be very upset to modify it in any way

I ll start by saying the food was delicious. We had the duck meatball, zucchini, waygu, and clam and fries. The service, however, was terrible. While everyone was nice, there were several points where service severely lacked. - drinks took forever (our first dish came out before the drinks) - before we had a chance to order 2nd drinks.. our remaining 3 dishes were all served at the same time (I m not sure how anyone expects customers to truly enjoy their meal in that manner - dishes get cold sitting on the table) - we finished our food and the dirty dishes sat cluttered on our table for 15+ mins while trying to enjoy our glasses of wine - as plates were finally cleared we asked to see a dessert menu.. the server forgot and presented us with our bill. Unfortunately, while the food was really good.. the service impacted our overall experience and we did not enjoy our dinner here. It was also my partner s birthday, which I indicated in the reservation note, and there was no reference to my note at all. Overall, sorry to say we were let down by this experience. We will not be returning anytime soon.

Nice little place. Very busy and loud indide. We had a reservation for Sunday brunch. Otherwise, it was an 1hr wait. Friendly staff, very accommodating. Very reasonably priced menu. Food was very good. Coffee Id also good. Would go again for sure. Parking: Have to park on one of the streets around. Parking is $6/hr on the 4th Ave.

Super disappointing our first experience at Fable Kitchen. I was taking my friends from Seattle who were in town to celebrate US Thanksgiving. I wish I had chosen to take them elsewhere. I had been wanting to try Fable for a long time since it is a Michelin Bib Gourmand. However, the food was poorly prepared. I did the 3 course tasting and the risotto was the saltiest Ive ever had. The main which was a piece of squash was rock hard in the center. We sat for 1.5 hrs before our mains arrived. The wine tasting I ordered was not presented with each dish. I had to ask for the pairing each time. The dessert was the most disturbing experience Ive had of a dessert ever, a cheese fondue with bland white cake, picked grapes and pecans... They forgot to bring the dessert pairing at all but I was still charged for it. I didnt realize that I didnt get the pairing until after we left since I was so disturbed by the whole meal. On the positive side, our server was friendly. The kitchen comped the cocktail I ordered at the beginning of the night to compensate for the salty risotto and took 10% off the main dish which was the squash since it was rock hard. (Not a very satisfactory situation since I didnt even get all of my pairings, the service was super slow and the food was the worst Ive had in Vancouver.)

This place is BRILLIANT. The food is distinctive, farm to table fresh, and beautifully prepared. There is a strong sense of a chef with a very particular approach and attitude to food here and it makes for an amazing experience. The duck meatball in parmigiana foam is extraordinary- I had read not to miss it. But the basil emulsion that came with the grilled zucchini turn the fairly ordinary vegetable into an event that I will not soon forget. Dont get me started on the Basque cheesecake. All this and it was very reasonably priced. And our server Virginia was the best! She told me to say that but it was true

November 23, 2024

Lovely atmosphere, excellent friendly service but the November tasting menu was a big disappointment. We found it uninspired, lacking in flavour and definitely not worth the money. The dessert was especially not well matched to the rest of the meal. Who wants to dip cake and nuts in cheese fondue after the heaviness of risotto, lentils, beans and squash? Seemed so out of place. Two drinks each and two tasting menus, plus tip was $235. Not worth the money. Have heard good things about this restaurant but our experience was disappointing food-wise.

I don t understand why a restaurant would allow us to book a table for a 1:30pm lunch and then tell us (multiple times until we left) that they close at 2pm. Extremely disappointing. We had a girl s lunch planned. Do you actually expect people to eat and run? We had little choice. We won t be in a hurry to go back. Unfortunately the food didn t blow us away either. My friends and I frequent restaurants and often need a place to take clients for both lunch and dinner meetings. We all agreed that we wouldn t go back to Fable. We thought you were a bit more upscale Simply not a great experience and definitely not cool!

From the friendly greeting at the front door by our knowledgeable hostess to the last bite of Basque Cheesecake , our evening was perfect. In between, the Duck and Couscous and Steelhead Trout were cooked to perfection; only surpassed in flavour by their accompanying sauces. Vegetarian options: The chickpea fritters (perfectly accompanied by the vegan curry mayo) and zucchini were both highlights in flavour (loved the unexpected pistachio with an al dente zucchini). Dietary restrictions: The options for people happily alcohol-free were quite extensive. Thoroughly enjoyed the no-alcohol Bourbon Sour and would come again just for cocktails if not hungry.

I only really do upscale breakfasts when Im travelling. And after parsing the plethora of brunch places in this part of town, Im glad I ended up here. Pork Belly Benny was awesome, added bonus of in-house hot sauces. Service was prompt, engaged and friendly. I gotts dock one star b/c if youre sat at a table nearest to the front there was a clash between lighting, glare from the windowside and then just slightly too dim on the inside. But other than that, thumbs up!

Food: 1. Pear Salad: While the presentation was pretty, the portion was quite large for a starter. I found myself feeling full before moving on to the main course. The combination of pear and cheese didn t quite resonate with me, and I felt the salad could have been more refined perhaps with a smaller portion or a different starter altogether. 2. Steelhead Trout: The cream sauce complemented the fish beautifully, creating a harmonious balance of flavors that I enjoyed. 3. Chocolate Budino: very sweet and had a rich chocolate flavor. Service Our server (forgot his name)was exceptionally kind and attentive. However tasting menu left me a bit disappointed. I d be interested in trying individual dishes(not tasting menu) on my next visit.

We were glad we walked by and decided to try Fable Kitchen. First of all, it is a place where you can enjoy brunch and have a conversation you can hear each other, which is something rare in the area. My wife and I had the Traditional Benny. It was OK. The hollandaise in it was a let down though. It was so acidic that unfortunately it tasted like mayonnaise you can get in a supermarket. I admit that getting that taste in our first bite did not match the high expectation created by the Michelin sign at the door. The service was great. A special thank you for the host (Ron, I believe), Sebastian and Nicole. All three super professionals and friendly. We would go back to try something else for sure.

Service and atmosphere were pretty good. The restaurant looks really nice and the staff is friendly. The food was really bad though. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The appetizer was so sweet it could have been a desert. For the entree we had a maple glazed halibot with grilled cabbage and beure blanc. The beurre blanc was split and really sour. The fish was overcooked. The cabbage was so tough it was inedible for one person. The desert was just really sweet with no interesting flavour combinations, nothing to balance the sweetness and a dissatisfying texture. I did like all the wine pairings however. But the average home cook can do alot better at home

I visited here for the first time with a couple of friends for lunch a few weeks ago. We were welcomed by our friendly waiter who served us a glass of water immediately. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and inviting. After looking at the menu, I was debating between 2 different dishes, the fried chicken sandwich or the traditional benny. After asking the waiter which one was best, I was advised that the sandwich would be good for a bigger appetite. I wasnt super hungry so I chose the traditional benny, one of my friends had the same and the other friend ordered the clams and fries. The food came fairly quickly, it looked and smelled so good. The traditional benny was delicious and the potatoes were fantastic. I really enjoyed this meal. Throughout the meal our water was being refilled without having to ask for it. The food was delicious, the service was good and the atmosphere was very nice as well. I will definitely come back in the future!

Our mimosas sat at the bar for 15 min and she was standing there organizing salt & pepper shakers. They also promoted the prohibition brunch but did not accommodate us and brought us a regular bill. She didn t ask us because obviously she didn t care one bit. Your staff attitude matters sometimes more than the quality of the food.

Oh where to start Ordered San Pellegrino for the table. Not cold. It s 30 degrees and had to ask for ice to cool the water. Ordered 5 vegetarian dishes to share. Kale salad was bad. Chewy, bland, unevenly salty and served in a half circle on a lg plate that looked ridiculous. Chickpea fritters were dry, overly cumin flavoured without sufficient topping. One winner was the zucchini. Delicious, but had to scrape the plate for the sauce. Beet gnocchi for $32 was ok, but seemed poorly thought out and plated. Enoki mushrooms deep fried, piled on a small plate, again with sauce on the bottom, invisible on a light plate and useless for the top pieces. Impossible to cut, bland, and not the mushroom best suited to frying. Throughout, I had to repeatedly clear our small table bc no one was. Drinks sat almost empty with no one asking if we wanted more. Bathroom had wrinkled papers on a bulletin board on the wall, looked dirty. And maybe put all the candles away for the summer. The fact that this place got a Bib Gourmand mention makes me seriously question Michelin because it was sub par in all categories. Way too many good restaurants in the city to go to this place. Vegetarian options: Several but only one with protein and where it said feta we never tasted any. Stomach grumbling 2 hrs later.

The entire experience was wonderful. Adam took care of us and made sure the dishes came out at a nice pace despite some in our party ordering the tasting menu and others ordering off the regular menu. The staff took care to seat parties in separate corners to add to the privacy and ambiance until the restaurant started to fill up and that was no longer possible. The food was EXCELLENT. Everything our party ordered was delicious. Sometimes it can be so difficult to find places with unique food that s not over the top and Fable excelled in that area. Another brunch place ticked off my list. Place was always packed so would recommend a reservation. Honestly, tables were pretty close together so it s hard to talk with how noisy the restaurant was. Service was alright, but I thought it was pretty shady for the waitress not to confirm that the extra pickles were extra charges. Most people in our group ordered the french toast (courtesy of me of course hahaha), however it s not as good as I expected given the rave reviews online imo. The brioche was way too floppy, flavour wise it was just sugary sweet, and there s barely any fruits. Got the same sentiment across their other items (they were decent, not great). Once is enough for me. List of items we ordered and the prices (I didn t try their dishes so can t rate them): 1. French Toast ($18) 2. Kitsilano Vegan Bowl ($18) 3. Fable Breakfast ($18) 4. Smash Burger ($19) plus cheese ($2)

It has been many years since I ve been to Fable, and it s nice to see that little has changed (which is a very good thing). Staff is outstanding. Pleasant, helpful, and very attentive. Ambience is lovely and suits a variety of occasions. Food was delicious. My friend and I loved every plate we had. Two minor quibbles: I loved that they had a price fixe tasting menu, but it would have been nice to have had at least two options for each plate/course. Next is wine. I had a glass of Pinot noir and it was lukewarm in temperature. I don t know if they have a functioning wine fridge or if they only use it for whites, but they definitely need to chill their lighter reds. Thankfully, our sever heard me mention this to my friend and (unprompted) bright me a small glass of ice where I could rest my mini-decanter with the remainder of my wine. Speaking of Pinot, while it is great that Fable showcases so many great BC wines, their choice of local Pinot was a bit basic, especially considering the many quality options available. Again, these are minor issues, and will by no means prevent me from returning and recommending Fable enthusiastically to friends and family.

Yesterday my daughter and I visited Fable for the first time for about 4 or 5 years. We had been regular visitors prior to that, as part of our annual Bard on the Beach father/daughter experience and to celebrate significant dates as a family. It was our favourite place. So we ordered our favourite dishes - duck meatball, chickpea fritters and gnocchi - and I m sorry to say we were disappointed. Everything had changed and not for the better. The meatball was smaller and solid, no longer hollow and injected with juice. Our server explained that the chef changed the recipe to make it less labour intensive . The fritters were small cubes, the texture not as light and moist as the previously circular puck shaped versions. No comparison. And the gnocchi was nothing like the substantial plate we had shared and enjoyed on so many occasions. Gone were the layers of squash puree, pesto and burnt onion dust. (I remember the first time eating the dish, discovering all the layers of flavour, and have since tried to emulate it at home!) Instead we had vinegary morel mushrooms, fresh peas and bland ricotta(?) mouse. The added pork belly was ordinary too. The cocktail was good and the service friendly. We split the bill, and for a beer, a cocktail, two appetizers, a shared entree and tip it cost us $60 each. We are very sorry to say we won t be coming back or recommending your place anymore.

Visited Fable for the first time today. There was maybe 4/5 tables already seated. Our table of 3 ordered some coffees, one bowl of soup and two croque madames. After 40 minutes we started to question why the food was taking so long. A table of five who sat 10-15 minutes after us got their food before our table. The server told us there was a big wait because there was only one person working in the kitchen. Had to leave without even getting my food. Absolute waste of our entire group s time; would not return or recommend. There is much better places to eat in the area.

Weve always enjoyed our visits to Fable, and last night was no exception. It fits into a welcome niche between a high-end night out and something more casual and affordable, meaning we can wander in whatever we re wearing, and without blowing our entire dining-out budget, still enjoy the kind of meal one expects from a Michelin-recommended chef. And it s a well-deserved recommendation. Chef Mathew is a wellspring of all those qualities you want from the person orchestrating your meal he s passionate, attentive to detail, organized, and has a great talent for making you feel like a valued guest. The serving staff is just as warm and friendly. We decided to sit at the chef s table a short row of bar-style seating as you walk in, directly facing the kitchen specifically to watch the kitchen staff at work; we were so glad we did. This isn t the kitchen from the movie Burnt, with Bradley Cooper screaming at exhausted sous-chefs, but rather a confidently well-oiled machine (saffron-infused oil, I m sure,) of good vibes, industry experience, and efficiency. A few minutes after we took our first bites of halibut, Chef Mathew paused while plating a dish, glanced up with a knowing smile, and asked if it was good oh yes Chef, we assured him, every bite was excellent. I encourage you to do what we did as a change of pace in your usual dining experience sit at the chef s table and connect with the passion and work that goes into preparing a truly exceptional meal. Most of us have become so detached from where our food comes from, but equally so from how it s prepared. Watching someone like Chef Mathew share a taste of sauce with his staff, explaining the ingredients and why it compliments the dish so well, watching the passion and joy it gives them both, it might change how you approach your own cooking at home, inspiring your own budding passion for creating delicious meals. Theres certainly plenty of great food to be found in Vancouver, but this was more than that it was a great experience I recommend to anyone.

Overall an Ok meal. The house made bread was fine, salad was good, steelhead with crispy skin was excellent, duck meatball on pasta was delicious However there were some negatives: - The strip steak was quite tough and had lots of gristle, not sure I liked the sauce either. - I was told the brownie would be on the lighter side relative to other brownies but it was quite dense, served slightly cold (not sure if that was intentional) and overly sweet. There also wasnt a lot of accompaniments other than a small amount of marshmallow substance and raspberry sauce. I took the rest home, microwaved and ate with some vanilla ice cream and it was much better. - The gnocchi and mushrooms were served together as a course however the gnocchi did not have enough flavor to be anything other than a side dish. In fact the server explained at the beginning that we should order some proteins as they came alone and then order some shared plates as sides. I think partially the issue was the tables are very small and the dishes are served on huge plates so theres not enough space to bring out the proteins and sides at the same time. - The potatoes werent crispy and sauce was just ok For over $300 after tip I think it was on the pricy side for the quality of food but not terrible.

We ate brunch here, overall, pricy for what we got. We ordered a special banana loaf based toast, which I don t recommended. It is kind a mixed of desert with breakfast, tastes strange. For the Benny, it is ok, not impressed, but better than the banana loaf toast. The portion for the food is not large enough to serve as a brunch, probably only a light breakfast. The place is not very bright, but I got it, a lot fancy restaurants run in this dark way so that we can got a intimate feeling.

Maybe we had too high expectation as a Michelin Guide restaurant. We tried 7 menus with some drinks. Starters, drinks, dessert were absolutely fantastic; however, all the main dishes didnt meet our expectation.. There are many x 2 other restaurants that can do better, even the Keg. After we got back home and read the Michelin Guide web page and realized the description mainly talks about daytime food and just 1 sentence for the dinner. And the dinner menu is not available currently. Our server was a gentleman and he was one of the best weve ever met in the last couple years. 4 stars including the experience at the restaurant, but Id say 2-3 stars for the entree only. Maybe well try someday for the brunch only.

Truly loved this little gem. Our server Adam was attentive and we loved his personality. He really made our dinner lovely. The selections of wines were great and complimented the food exceptionally well. Without hesitation, I recommend the duck meatball with tagliatelle, as well as the enoki share dishes. The halibut was cooked perfectly, and the pork belly was the best I ever had. The staff was lovely and I would recommend Fable to friends and family if they visit Vancouver! Ps. Went for the first time this morning and immediately added to my list of favorite restaurants. We both got the trucker breakfast with the belly bacon + sausage on the side and it was absolute perfection. Every single thing was just delicious from the real butter and real maple syrup to the perfectly cooked belly bacon.

April 23, 2024

Food was super bland and uninspiring, just ordinary breakfast items that were at best cooked with just oil and some salt. I could have gotten that breakfast at almost any diner in town. Portions were also super small, the decor was overtly kitsch/silly, and the lighting was so dim it was an aggressively romantic brunch. In Vancouver Im sure you can find somewhere with better food which doesnt rely on goofy decor to try and impress its patrons. Im confident this place is only open because people get tired of waiting for jam just up the road (without the potatoes). Edit: Ive checked some of the other reviews on here and bland potatos and breakfast seems to be a bit of a trend. If you are going for brunch, be safe and order something overtly rich.

Foods were horrible. Ordered 4 brunch plates. 3 of them was not edible. I love sour foods but the salad was too sour to eat. Pepper jam was horrible. Surprised how they got Michelin Bib Gourmand.

March 23, 2024

Such a disappointing experience at this restaurant. I ve chosen the place as it is in the Michelin guide; my mistake. The drinks were good, we ve ordered a manhattan and 2 mocktails, they were nice and pretty. Unfortunately, the food was not as expected. Even though at the beginning my partner and I not so bad starters bread and amouse-bouche the entree was forgettable. My partner ordered gnocchi with pork belly, it was all too fatty to say the least. I ve ordered duck with lentils what a shame, it was simply bland. Even after putting salt on it (to try to lift the flavour), it had no taste. For a $40 plate, it s def not worth the money. Lastly, we ve got the desert, a brownie. It was too sweet! The marshmallow was too overpowering on the whole plate, it s not harmonious at all. Overall, it was a bad experience. I do not recommend the restaurant. Edit: my partner feels sick today (the next day). Her stomach hurts and she s feeling a lot of nausea.

Loved coming here as part of the Dine Out Vancouver Festival! Its great that a couple of the dishes (the duck meatball and brownie) appear to be regular (and popular) dishes on the normal menu. My favourite dish was probably the duck meatball - it tasted great!! The service was incredible as well, really nice, polite and friendly. I didnt feel like we were really rushed out of the restaurant, however I wouldve appreciated a little more time to enjoy the food between each course. Let me start by saying that I love the name of this resturant. The vibe is so nice, and fable makes me think of fairytales even though it also represents farm to table, super witty play on words. The ingredients that they use here are amazing and everything is cooked super well. My only constructive criticism is that the flavour of the dishes could be improved and I understand that the resturant is trying to be hip with all the healthy options, but I really wouldve loved if my risotto was made with regular risotto rather than the healthier alternative that they used. I would also really not recommend the chai seed pudding, just not great. On the other hand, the duck meatball and pasta is cooked very well but it really needed more sauce, the salmon was cooked to perfection, would definately recommend. Overall, not bad and I wouldnt mind coming back again.

February 23, 2024

Atmosphere and food was pretty good, was really disappointed with the service. Me and my partner were there to celebrate our anniversary and all started out well until we ordered. We ordered the bread to start and i specifically said to start so that it would be brought out before the main course. I noticed many table that ordered after us were getting there food before us so I asked the waitress who was attending us why it was taking longer for us to get our bread she then said it was coming all together which is not what I asked for. I called for another waiter to let him know we asked for the bread to start and all he said was oh sorry. We got everything together which took over 45 minutes to get. The waitress who attended us (some taller blonde lady) then proceeded to ignore us and was checking on every one else around which is very poor people skills, its also very obvious the waitress was having a bad attitude towards us as the tables are so close together you can hear her attitude change when she came to us and when she was attending others. Over all probably wouldnt go here again as the experience was awful. Not really fine dining.

In a single line; unpretentious amazing food. We had an amazing experience at Fable last night - expertly crafted cocktails, and amazing food prepared with very high quality ingredients. An amuse-bouche featuring sunchoke puree started our meal, and from there we moved to bread (fantastic) and the duck meatball (complex, fantastic textures, and a perfect light tagliatelle). Chickpea fritters (more like squares than fritters, dense but lightly flavoured and crispy with a delicious curry flavoured paste). For our sides we had the Brussel sprouts (not as crispy as I would have liked but good), patatas bravas (roasted potatoes and parmesan with a. Unique tomato sauce), maitake mushrooms (perfectly cooked small bunches of maitake mushrooms, in a sauce that I wanted to lick off the plate - best side!), and the gnocchi with pork belly (delicious, great sauce, and perfectly cooked pork belly nuggets to die for). Our mains were the duck and sable fish - sable fish seems to be a Vancouver staple (for good reason) and so it can be a good comparative measure of a restaurant - this was, hands down, the best sable fish Ive had in Vancouver. Just perfectly cooked, seasoned, and presented. Accompanying sauce and greens (cress) was amazing and perfectly complemented. The duck was beautiful - a slight smokiness with a delicious sauce, and perfectly cooked. Wait staff was present, but not overbearing - friendly and informative, the bartender was a pleasure to talk to and full of good information. We will absolutely be back!

A disappointing end to 2023 - Fable Kitchen has been my go-to spot in Vancouver since 2015 and I was looking forward to celebrating NYE with their tasting menu last night. Things started off well with their house bread and butter - dont think this recipe has changed at all over the years. Then followed the risotto, which was definitely a couple minutes past al dente but still a serviceable dish. This is going to be a recurring theme for the rest of the meal. Im not sure if the kitchen was just overwhelmed by the NYE menu / understaffed, but things were clearly being left on the burner far too long and wait times between courses stretched on. Following the risotto was the pasta course - I had ordered the green pea carbonara while some others at the table ordered the pasta amatriciana. The pasta amatriciana was very underwhelming - bland with that sour tang reminiscent of a jar of store-bought tomato sauce. The carbonara was alright. Unfortunately, the rest of the dinner was a disaster. We all ordered the surf and turf and had 4 of the 5 steaks come out medium-well to well-done. Even after they were refired, the filets were tough & bland, and the scallops tasted past their prime with an overwhelmingly briny flavour. It was undoubtedly the saddest main Id ever had at Fable - not only from an execution standpoint but also from how uninspired the overall dish was. The general manager was also pretentious in addressing the matter. She insisted that it was impossible the filets were overdone as they were cooked sous vide and took care of things in a very well what do you want me to do manner. And lastly, the dessert. A ramekin of tepid chocolate sauce accompanied by stale donuts (were talking strain-your-jaw stale), store-bought marshmallows, and miscellaneous fruit thrown together haphazardly on a plate. For this to be the dessert at the end of a $110 tasting menu was mind-boggling. Unfortunately, it seems that with the new chef leading the way, the restaurant seems bound to lose both its Bib Gourmand status and its status as the beloved neighbourhood joint it once was. Perhaps the dining experience is still salvageable if one were to order the old classics on a regular day (e.g. chickpea fritters, duck meatball, pork belly gnocchi), as I imagine those recipes are still the same. However, I will likely not be returning to Fable again.

Our server who was attentive and friendly said we could order a la carte bur we figure might as well try tasting menu. My husband ordered a cocktail and had wine pairing and I ordered a glass of wine. Wines came with starter salad and croquettes and cocktail after. The mains were ling cod w chorizo jam ... fish done well but the jam tasted like BBQ sauce and overwhelmed the dish. The duck confit was also done well but both mains were tiny. The desserts were large in comparison. I guess it makes up for not having enough main course. So Im not sure if we were last sitting and were tad rushed...no time for cocktail and the courses quite close together. I do think the portions were small even for fine dining which this place wasnt advertised as such. TLDR: Their menu before was better. Super healthy dishes but lacks a bit of mm goodness. Risotto - The dish looked plain and simple, the taste profile was similar. Wished there was another thing that gives a bit more depth in flavour as the most prominent flavour was the barley. Something seems to be missing in this dish. Pork chop and Duck - Both had very similar sauces. Porkchop was tasty but I wish the kimchi was spicy, really interesting concept though with the italian style kimchi. Duck was smaller in portion compared to the last time and was not the most tender, perhaps due to the way they were cooked this time around. The adornments of the dish did not really complement the meat very well, maybe a little too ambitious with the ingredient Our last visit here blew our minds away with the duck and gnocchi (which was sadly sold out by 7pm on a Wednesday). I hope they can adjust the menu soon so we can go back for those bursts of flavour!!

Try the house-made mocktails! Best Ive had - No-groni was complex, aromatic, and refreshing. The pineapple-gin-spritz was flavorful, not sweet, with a peppery finish. The Butchers cut was already beautifully seasoned with herbs that really enhanced the flavor, but then the pepper jam ginger reduction was absolutely to die for - rich, sticky flavor explosions with every mouthful. The bok choy greens and miso potatoes were the perfect accompaniment. Both desserts were wonderful - rhubarb with strawberry curd in blueberry-balsamic ice cream melded amazing flavors together under a toasted meringue top, while the bittersweet chocolate orange with graham cake was a satisfying and rich blend without being heavy or too sweet.

A nice evening- and the food was good- but they had a few basic missing moments- no mint to make a mojito- no mint??? It s the most aggressive herb- mint is everywhere- in gardens-typically invasive and a kitchen staple I would imagine .And the chairs .uncomfortable . But the service was excellent - the food very farm to table good and they did not rush us out- other than I couldn t help but think that the hard wooden chairs kind of served that purpose!

Deep fried potatoes and dry old sourdough for breakfast, at a critically acclaimed restaurant. Other dishes looked pretty interesting, but we were in a hurry and opted for the basic breakfast. Wouldn t have cared, if the place wasnt upscale and priced accordingly. Food

I always pass by this restaurant. Finally a friend asked to have brunch here today, so here I am. My friend reserved a table online which was very convenient and I always like to reserve tables online without waiting in a super long line up for an hour or so. The server provided great service. The ambience was great for family or friends gathering. The venue has a decent size. It is considered comfortable that there is a reasonable distance between tables and customers, so we could chat without hearing what others were talking next to us. Their menu had different options for customers to choose from. We ordered a few dishes. I felt each dish was presented well. But the flavour was okay. It was just a normal dish of western breakfast to me. I wouldn t say I would wow for it. The location is right on a busy street that customers can come here to eat and walk around the neighbourhood after the meal. It s hard to find parking though. It s better for ones who take public transit or who live in the neighbourhood. Parking: Paid street parking or find parking in the neighbourhood but most of them need parking permit on streets, so people who don t live in this neighbourhood would be harder to find parking or they have to park far away and walk to their destination. Sometimes there are two hour parking on street if we are lucky to get one.

My new favourite restaurant! We ve been coming here for brunch (the Johnny cakes are amazing, corn pancakes with pulled pork) and decided to check them out for dinner and they did not disappoint! Excellent food, great service, and really nice atmosphere. We had the chorizo mozzarella salad, gnocchi with pork belly, 6 oz flank steak, and chocolate orange dessert. Special shout out to our server Eugene who was awesome!!

December 23, 2023

What a disappointing meal. We ordered the mozza salad, potatoes, cabbage, and steak. The salad was just bizarre - it was as if someone decided to put chili on a salad. All the components tasted ok on their own, but together they just made no sense. I honestly wondered whether the chef was playing some sort of weird prank on the diners. The potatoes were dry and flavorless, and the steak was overcooked (we asked for medium rare but there was almost no pink). The cabbage was the only dish with much flavor. I don t usually leave negative reviews, but this was just such a massive disappointment, I m left feeling more confused than anything else.

Ive heard nothing but good things about this place, but my experience left a lot to be desired. My order was messed up, causing me to not get my food until my friends were nearly done eating. The error was never addressed or apologized for. The meal itself was underwhelming, unseasoned, wet, and full of woody, hard to eat greens. The drinks were weird - not sure what kind of juice they are using in the mimosas but it wasnt to my taste. Positives are that the space is lovely, as was our server. Yes my order was messed up, but I think it was an honest mistake (Ive been known to mumble lol). It happens, no biggie. My friends enjoyed their food. I think I just had a dud experience.

Took my daughter out for lunch on a Friday, service was excellent and our server knew the menu well. We opted for brunch, ordering their daily Eggs Benny and a Farmer s Breakfast. Both were really good and the secret spice in the Benny sauce added extra spice, richness and flavourful. Great to have a great cup of bottomless coffee, a nice touch in these days of more with less. Only one thing would be nice to have salt, pepper, ketchup, hot sauce etc left on the table as we had to ask for each item. Perhaps when they bring out your order they could just bring a basket with the condiments? Parking in the area if driving is a pain and expensive (we paid $8 at a private lot), and recommend walking or busing to this area.

The most disappointing meal and dinning experience I ve had in Vancouver. Restaurant is extremely noisy. Possibly nice for an intimate dinner if you dinning companion has excellent hearing. Very disappointing. Pros: Friendly, attentive staff Cons: They were out of the mock-alcohol we wanted so had to switch our cocktail. Then they were out of the mains we wanted. They brought our salad but then we waited, and waited, for our mains, only to be told theyd given them away or some such mixup, and would have to remake everything. When food finalllllyyyy did arrive, wed lost out appetites. The cod was awful - overcooked and incredibly dry. For this category of restaurant, Id expect to sit on a padded chair but theyre wooden and very uncomfortable for a longer period. Cant believe its Michelin-rated. We wont be back, even if they did comp our mocktail order.

Unexpected experience from Michelin restaurant. There was no wow factor on food. We got some felafel for the order of chickpea fritters and Brussel sprouts was mushy and not even crispy. I appreciated our servers informative service, but I felt a bit uncomfortable with the proximity when they were speaking to us. It would be great if they could maintain a more comfortable distance in the future.

That was not nice. Website says it opens at 9am and when we got there a very rude employee told us they had changed their hours. If he was an unhappy employee we were an even unhappier group of customers. Can t recommend a place with such bad customer service

The problem starts with the fact that I couldnt remember what I ate, although I visited this restaurant only a few days ago. I had to google the menu to refresh my memory a bit The food was surprisingly (given the Michelin guide recognition) unremarkable. Some dishes were oversalted, unbalanced, and overwhelming (like duck meatballs), and some didnt have salt at all and were absolutely plain and boring (like maitake and rutabaga). The idea to put a steak on a base of canned black bean garlic paste was questionable at least (not adding any aromatics to the paste). The wine was not good either (Carmenere, 2020.) Overall a disappointing experience.

Fable is lovely! Been here twice recently, once for brunch and once for dinner. Great menu, lots of ve/v options. Brunch I had the French toast which was amazing, maybe the best I ve ever had -not too sweet and so fresh. My partner had the eggs Benny which I had a bite of and thought it was very flavourful, only note is I personally didn t like that the ricotta was cold (im weird about temp) but my partner loved it. For dinner we had the chickpea fritters and the bread and butter which were both SO good. The carrots were amazing too, quite garlicky which I love. The gnocchi was also excellent, beautifully presented and tasty, definitely a peppery flavour as well (tiiiny bit much for me but I m sensitive to pepper; my partner loved it). The only reason this place isn t 5 stars is the patatas bravas. They were recommended by our waiter, and they were honestly inedible. I had one potato, and it tasted like I was eating an ashtray it was so smoky (not that I ve ever done that of course). My partner also could not eat them. Since everything else was so good, I can t help but wonder if it was a kitchen error or if something happened to them. \_( )_/ beware! For both meals our waiters were very personable and attentive, great service. The place is cute with exposed brick, music is not too loud and they ve got nice lighting. Overall would definitely recommend!
