As others have stated, this restaurant is truly a hidden gem. I’ve been twice, once with 2 friends and more recently with a party of 8. The food was delicious and fresh tasting. The fixed menu at $35 for 3 courses is an excellent price for the quality and options you have to choose from. Everything was great, the service, the atmosphere and location is fantastic. The french onion soup was really a treat, as I have never been a fan before, but I cannot wait to go back for more !

Dinner tonight at Lavidas was perfect. Small, quaint atmosphere with incredible service. Jordan, our server was kind, attentive and charismatic. All of our food came out hot and was delicious. Wednesday pre set menu with 1/2 price bottles of wine, can’t go wrong. I’ll definetly be returning.

Run, don’t walk to Lavidas. Despite the mysterious name, the food here is absolutely delightful. Mark my words - it’s the best 3 course meal value in the lower mainland. Where else can you get perfectly cooked duck confit with a heaping mound of healthy root vegetables, seafood - laden linguine overflowing with mussels and clams, or tender beef with yummilicious gravy? I haven’t even mentioned the cheese overloaded French onion soup, earl gray crème brûlée or vanilla apple crumble?!! Only $35 pp!!! I am not kidding. They also have a great selection of wine. Service is lovely. There are ample tables to have a lively conversation and catch up with friends. The lovely female chef worked at a prestigious long standing French restaurant before. The problem WAS the expensive paid parking in front. The good news is we have found free parking. See photo with red circle. I attached a photo. You are welcome 😂 Give it a try and support local business!!!

Had a great experience at Lavidas, it is really a hidden gem. The portions were huge and food was very delicious. I don’t know any where else in the city where you can get French bistro course menu for $35! Our waitress Adriana was so sweet and attentive. The service can be a bit slower due to only have 1 chef and 1 front of house, but it’s worth the wait and makes the pace of the dining to be very enjoyable since you are not rushed and can enjoy a chat. I recommend booking a reservation to secure your table, since they can’t accommodate many tables and you may get turned away so they can provide better service to the dine in customers. Highly recommend and will be back :)

Like everyone mentions, the $35 prix fix menu is an amazing deal. Not only were the portions huge, the food tasted great. Way beyond our expectations.

Food, AMAZING. Service, very slow. Came here during the Khatsahlano street festival which was PACKED outside. After we got seated it took awhile to get things like waters, menus, etc. After a short time we noticed it was because there was only 1 person working the front. Seating people, taking orders, running plates, all just 1 lady. We ordered the BC clams and chorizo, as well as from the prix fixe menu. We got the scallops and prawn ceviche, duck confit, and the creme brulee. Each dish was outstanding both in presentation, depth of flavors, and balance. I really cant say which one was my favorite, each one was absolutely stunning. If I were to rate this place on food alone it would be 5-stars. In total it took over 2 hours to complete our meal though. The food was so good it almost made the wait completely worth it. However rating for the overall experience is 4-star. If they hired another person for front and back of house, this place would be elite.

Such a beautiful three course meal at a very reasonable 35$. Was absolutely blown away by the French onion soup starter. We had the braised beef and duck confit mains which were both done so well. You can tell the food is made with great care. Our server Adriana was attentive and very sweet. So pleased with our experience, can’t wait to come back.

Update: finally tried the duck confit and it was marvellous! Stayed with the ceviche and berry crumble though as I can’t get enough of them. My friend had the beef cheeks and it was fantastic as well. I can never understand why this restaurant isn’t packed. Another delicious meal at my new favourite neighbourhood bistro. Excellent choices in the prix fixe menu at an unbeatable $35 price. The seafood ceviche with tortilla chips is super tasty, raspberry crumble a la mode hits the spot, and the pasta with mussels, clams, and smoke salmon is so big, it’s the perfect next day lunch. I really want to try the duck but the lure of next-day lunch pulls me back to the pasta, lol. They’re open Wednesday-Sunday, apparently so the staff can have work/life balance which is awesome.

I have no words to describe this tiny, cozy place. Frankly, from my experience dining out in Vancouver, this restaurant surpasses all the other places I ve visited so far, based on multiple factors: food that s second to none ambience service This is my second time returning, and I hope to be back soon! I enjoyed a delicious onion soup, duck confit paired with gratin and seasonal veggies, and, of course, to wrap up an amazing gastronomic adventure, the apple crumble with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You won t regret and please try it out! This is an exceptional place!

Amazing, delicious, and beautifully curated local restaurant! BEST French Onion soup and Duck Confit Ive ever had! The duck is so tender and fall-off-the-bone, yet so flavorful. Highly recommend! The apple crumble is divine. You can get a 3 course dinner (everything Ive listed above) for $35?!?!!! I dont think Ive ever had a more affordable and upscale dinner. The best part though is the server Adriana and the lavely chef, whose backstory on how the restaurant started is very touching! Thank you thank you for serving the community. I hope this restaurant continues to thrive! I will definitely be bringing more people here.

Our adult group of 6 had an amazing meal at Lavidas. The prix fix menu is $35 for 3 courses. The choices are very good and quite varied. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented! We all ordered different items and all were executed perfectly. In addition, we dined on a Wednesday evening when bottles of wine are half price - such a good deal. I cannot say enough about the food - and the great value of their prix fix menu. I will be back....soon!

This must be the best kept secret in Vancouver! I really dont think you can get a better deal! They have a $35 3 Course meal that is absolutely worth every penny & more! Not sure how they do it in this economy, but they do & let me tell you, they do it so very well! We enjoyed the Mango Salad, Scallop & Prawn Ceviche, Canard Confit, Boeuf Braised et Pomme de Terre, Earl Grey & Burnt Honey Creme Brulee & Raspberry Crumble a la mode. Everything was absolutely wonderful! My duck was the best duck I have ever had! It was fall off the bone, melt in your mouth crazy good. The beef was well seasoned & fork tender. If I had one critique, it would be the potatoes. Im not a potato person & there was alot of it, but if you like potatoes then youll be good. The cocktails & the decafe coffee were also delicious. This is a relatively new restaurant, being open for less than year, so show them some love & visit soon! We want to make sure they stick around for while! @inspiringfoodie

We would like to share our amazing experience! The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and helpful and the chef is excellent. We ordered mango salad for appetizer, then we decided to go for seafood as main dish and pain perdu as a dessert. We were fully satisfied! The starter was a pleasant surprise with a combination of sweet and spicy taste. We assume that the seafood dishes were chef signature recipes. As a desert we ve got a pain perdu, which was tender french toast combined with an amount of buttery rum sauce and fruits. Definitely a pleasant surprise:-). This place is worth of visiting, we advise everyone to visit, we for sure will come again!

WOW! My husband and I were looking for some breakfast in Kitsilano & after seeing the lineup at Jam we felt we needed to try something new. Enter La Cigale. Our server Patrick was so lovely, personable & funny, and the food was amazing! Do yourself a favor and get the Croque Monsieur. SO good. Cant wait to go back already.

December 23, 2021

Awful. The waiter took our cocktail and wine order all at once and then brought the wine first, followed by cocktails and water. Our tiny table was covered in glasses and bottles. The food was mediocre at best. The steak frites was brutal. The meat had been fried in a pan, no seasoning or flavour. Dry hunk of meat. The frites were just fat, soft, North American French fries. There was nothing French about this restaurant. Wine list was limited and lousy. Ask for bread and it s as though you re ordered a pizza. They bring out a whole baguette as an appetizer . Really odd place.

December 23, 2021

Decided to try this restaurant because it had decent reviews. What a strange restaurant. The vibe is not French bistro despite the description and honestly neither is food. We were very confused about the theme of the decor. Tried the fixed course option which was reasonably priced. Appies were actually not too bad but wow do the mains seriously underdeliver. Duck was served as a thigh piece with barely any meat. Beef cheek was passable but both were served with half hearted veggies that left the meal feeling incomplete? Dessert was also not that bad. Hard to recommend.

Food from the brunch menu was good with extremely generous portions and reasonable prices. The food took quite a while to arrive and they seemed understaffed possibly due to covid. Unfortunately they served room temperature water which I really dislike and I ended up eating way to much due to the very large portions (thats on me I guess). Overall I had mixed feelings about La Cigale Bistro despite the many other positions reviews.

Onion tart was delicious. The duck and beef were excellent and well presented. Good portions too. The meal really lived up to the additional price. Maybe one of my best dining experiences in Vancouver. The menu is small but varied enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Eric s service was impeccable. It definitely has a bistro vibe. The pricing is very reasonable, and the portions are generous. You won t be leaving hungry. I am trying to compare it to other restaurants in the city but can t quite do it. If you are tired of the franchises and are looking for a new place to try, go here! I have to add, I am, and my party are, usually really hard to please. We are those people who are full of soft whispers of how it could have been better. Or how we would do it better at home. Not this time. Well . Maybe the demi glace on the beef cheeks was a little over seasoned but, besides that, not a criticism to be made. Bravo Chef.

Such a weird, bad experience. There were open tables and plenty of space, only two other seated tables, and we were told we couldnt have a seat because they had two five tops coming in in half an hour and the kitchen wouldnt be able to handle that many people. So...because of a reservation you had in half an hour, you couldnt sit a two top at an available table (which to be clear, was not the table that was reserved). Ive been working in restaurants for ten years and Ive never heard of that before. Definitely will not be going back.

Quaint French Bistro. Located on busy 4th Ave a few doors east of Las Margaritas. My family and I had a hankering for French food since I felt bitten by nostalgia. My son has never experienced this cuisine before so we ordered 3 of the 3-course fixed priced menus. We each had a choice of appetizer so we could try each others dish. We had the traditional French onion soup, an onion tart and a garden salad. The soup broth was tasty, topped by a broiled cheese crouton. My onion tart was a mild goats cheese in a very flaky freeform crust topped with gently sauted onions, garnished with a squash puree, a balsamic vinegar reduction, arugula spray and root chips. The presentation was very eye catching and the tart was pipping hot. My sons salad was amazing according to someone who doesnt usually enjoy eating salad. Spring greens, sliced sweet pepper, carrot shreds, cucumbers and sliced strawberries all brought together with a lightly dressed buttermilk dressing. Delish he said. Our mains were duck confit cassoulet, linguine seafood medley in a dill cream sauce and braised beef cheeks with mash and vegetables. My duck was perfectly seasoned, had crispy skin and unctuous flesh and a berry jam. My white beans were tender cooked with carrots, onions and diced sausage pieces. My husband who is not a pasta fanatic the way I am raved about his seafood linguine. The sauce was very creamy and not overwhelmed by the dill which can happen. The seafood consisted of smoked salmon pieces, mussels and little clams. The portion size was very generous. The braised beef was a hit since no words were spoken by our son during the meal. Lol. He was too busy enjoying himself. Service was attentive by the wait staff. There were suitable intervals between courses so you didnt feel rushed or overstuffed. Dessert arrived in the form of 2 orders of baked cheesecake with a blueberry reduction and garnished with a hazelnut flavoured whipped cream and a traditional chocolate mousse. The chocolate mousse was made of a moderately sweet milk chocolate, topped by a hazelnut whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. The cheesecakes were the baked NY type with a dense texture and a heavy crumb crust. Both were thoroughly enjoyed by my boys. The only criticism I could have is that the cutlery could have been changed between courses and bread is offered as complimentary side. This is a small complaint compared to what we experienced at other French restaurants. The dining space is oddly configured. Some table seatings for 4 near the garage door style windows at the front. Lighting is a mix of natural light and subdued lighting. Unlike an authentic French Bistro the washrooms had no bidets. Excellent value if you go for the fixed priced menus. Definitely worth a return visit for seasonal menu changes.

The brunch menu was pretty good except that everything has cheese and dairy in it, so that was unfortunate. While the food was good, there was just too much potatoes and the food was a bit on the greasy side. The French onion soup was really good tho.

The prefix menu is the way to go. The French dishes are spot on and the portion sizes are perfect and the giant windows at the front fold open in the summer to give the feeling of being on a patio. I like that the menu is restrained to a few perfect dishes, restaurants who try to spread themselves to thin often are the master of none. It also helps ensure fresher ingredients and less wastage.

I almost hate giving this place two stars because the food is excellent and its good value. However, the place is severely under-staffed. Was there for brunch last Sunday. Waited an entire hour for our food, no exaggeration. One server, and there appeared to be only one person in the kitchen. Staff properly, and I will happily come back!!

We stumbled this French bistro by accident and decided to give it a try. The place is small and cute and the food was quite tasty. The filet mignon was so tender and the cordon bleu was so crispy. The portions were big. We were recommended by the waitress of this dessert thats not on the menu and is only sometimes served when the cooks feel like it. Its called a miffle feuiffe (she wrote it down for us) but it was out of this world. Its pastry with creamy custard with whip cream and strawberries. Highly recommend to ask for this before you sit down!

I have been to a number of French Restaurant in Metro Vancouver and I rate this one 5 out of 5. Among the 4 of us we had for appetizers escargot, the pate and french onion soup, For the entree we had Lepin, and beef cheeks which melted in our mouth. Dessert was the lime tart and chocolate cake. Every dish was done to perfection and the service was excellent. We would definitely go back again.

Authentic French cuisine. We went here for brunch and I had a delicious savoury pancake. Good portions. Brigitte the owner was very hospitable and had a great sense of humour. Would certainly go back to try something else on the menu.

December 23, 2014

La Cigale makes all the Gallic noises of a French bistro. Unfortunately, the food is hugely underwhelming and overpriced. The escargot was rubbery and tasteless, immersed in an odd pestoish sauce lacking in any real flavour. The rabbit fricassee, insubstantial and again served in a sauce reminiscent of a Campells Soup shortcut recipe. Perhaps the most repugnant part of the evening was at the end when I was not given an itemized bill for the evening but merely my credit card stuck in a terminal with the mystery total appearing when I pushed the OK button. I would have complained but just couldnt wait to get the hell out of there. By the way no one said good evening and theyll never get to say bonne soir to me or mine again.

I went there 2 weeks ago. And I loved it. Fresh and French, The chef deserves at least one Michelin star. I ordered the French baguette with tapenade, lovely and very creative. Then the Escargot garlic and parsley butter, so tasteful, and the Fish of the day. an ocean of flavors. If, as I do, you love rock fishes, go there. it was a dream. I did not take any desert, but I heard many happy comments from the other tables. I had a glass of a great organic French red wine. I recommend it to you. No bitterness in it, just some red fruit taste and an great mouth feel Waiters and waitresses were fast and smiling. I even got the chance to chat with Brigitte the owner who take care of each of her customers and is really happy when you are!
