Upscale restaurant presenting innovative, carefully sourced cuisine amid retro-chic surroundings.
My husband and I went here for the first time to celebrate my birthday. I had issues with the service and what appeared to be uncooked chicken breast. Food: Brussel sprouts was 10/10 - delicious Beef carpaccio was 10/10 - delicious Savoury danish donuts starts with a A on the menu was 6/10 - it was ok. I would not get this again. Hunters chicken was 7/10 - The mushrooms and gnocchi (not actually gnocchi but similar texture) was delicious. The piece of chicken thigh was delicious. But the chicken breast that also came with the dish was not appetizing whatsoever as it looked and tasted undercooked. The kitchen confirmed it was cooked (I’m skeptical- see picture of chicken breast). If there is an option to just get the chicken thigh only I would get that. I posted a picture of the chicken breast that looked undercooked and felt undercooked but was told it was cooked by the manager. You be the judge. I also read other reviews that said they got food poisoning at this restaurant and addressed it with the manager with no resolution. Grilled pork collar was 7/10. It would have been an 8.5 if the kale was not extremely acidic. Chocolate dessert was 10/10. Service: The server came to us when we were seated and advised she would come back in a few minutes giving us a chance to look at the menu. It was over 10 minutes and she did not come back despite walking by us multiple times. I was not able to get her attention. Then I asked another server to ask our server to come to our table. My server still continued to walk past our table without any acknowledgement. I was eventually able to get her attention. It must have been 15 minutes at this point. At one point our dishes were cleared with mess on the table. So my husband cleaned it with his napkin as we do not like sitting on a dirty table waiting for the other dishes. The server did notice he did that and after that she would clean the table after dishes were removed. I’m glad she did that after but it should’ve have taken my husband to clean it first for her to pick up on it. Water was filled regularly. The bus boy came to our table and took my husband’s napkin which has bits of food in it from cleaning the table and shockingly “shewed it” (I can’t think of the word) into the air to “clean it” which caused food bits to fly off. I was worried that it was going to hit other customers while they were eating as it was towards a tables direction…. It could have hit them, not sure as it was an aggressive shew and then he folded the dirty napkin and placed it back on the table. I asked for a new one he seemed annoyed and just walked away and grabbed a new one. Overall I felt that the service was lacking which was a disappointment.
I was told I was ordering too much food. Since when does it matter to the server what I eat and how much? How would they know my appetite or whether I wanted to take some home? I was shamed into reducing the dishes I ordered and left hungry. This doesn't take away from the fact the food was delicious, but I most likely won't be coming back because of this. The service was attentive and environment was nice but I couldn't get past the fact that I couldn't order what I wanted without being judged. I was more than willing to spend the money and enjoy a night out indulging on a meal I've waited months to try. Sadly my overall dining experienced was soured by this moment where I second guessed whether to enjoy myself or feel judged by the staff.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner, and it was a wonderful experience. The ambiance was amazing, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The house even treated us to a couple of complimentary drinks, which was a lovely gesture. We ordered several dishes, with the lamb tartare, Cappelletti and aebleskiver standing out as highlights. The dessert was also fantastic. Overall, no major complaints, but a heads-up: the service does slow down a bit, so plan for the whole experience to take around 2.5 hours. Definitely make reservations if you’re planning to visit. Apart from that, sit back, relax, and enjoy your visit!
Another Michelin restaurant that I checked out in Vancouver. This will be the 5th one. The best service so far. Lauren was very friendly and attentive with good flow of 10 course dinner. Food was very good, but I have to say that St Lawrence was better. The restaurant had a nice ambiance. Yes, this restaurant deserves Michelin star.
To call this tasting menu merely 'good' would be a hyperbole; it transcends culinary excellence. In the language of gastronomy, a restaurant embodies the quality of its ingredients, balance and harmony of its flavours, chef's technique and unique expressions. Equally crucial is the consistency maintained across the entire menu and sustained over time. The chef's dishes present a paradox: they are overwhelmingly good yet remarkably balanced, each bite a harmonious blend of intense flavors. The restaurant ambience is gentle, inviting while the knowledgeable team orchestrated each dining experience with precision and grace. The restaurant experience is a simile for an unforgettable journey, touching the soul in ways that linger long after the last course has been. Thank for you , for the second time .
I recently enjoyed a tasting course with wine pairing at this restaurant, and it was truly a memorable experience. The food was phenomenal, and the service was attentive and professional. My only minor gripe was the mandatory 20% tip, which I felt took away the option to personally decide the tip amount based on my experience. Overall, though, it was a fantastic evening that I would highly recommend to others.
Booked a reservation weeks in advance and was well worth it. I enjoyed all the courses and exploring different flavor combinations with no prior expectations. I was also delighted by the cocktails, Do it For the Data is worth a try. Staff were very friendly and came frequently to make sure we had enough water for the table. I appreciated the parting gift and was given a list of the course after the meal to review the plates I got. Would come back for seasonal options
We ventured out to Published for a special celebration. There were four of us in total. We were seated quickly and offered both still and sparkling water. The server also provided a cocktail menu which was fresh off the press and she also explained the food menu to us. The food is served to be shared and it’s suggested that you order 3 items per person. We ordered slightly less — about ten dishes. The presentation is simple but well done and every item was really good! Standouts were the bee pollen buns, the carpaccio, the morels and the squid. We also ordered dessert — again 10/10. The service was excellent and the cocktails were superb. They also have a great selection of wines. One small observation is that the interior while modern and clean is a bit sterile but that’s more of a personal taste. This is a Michelin star rated restaurant so get your credit card ready - it’s not inexpensive. But it’s worth a visit especially for a special occasion! Highly recommend!
We enjoyed a flavorsome dinner to a rainy Vancouver backdrop. Ill need to first call out that the reason the Service gets 5 stars is entirely due to our sommelier Haley, and Dennis from the bar. They epitomize the word hospitality, are truly interested in their craft and cant wait to share it with guests. We learned a great deal about the B.C. wine scene and the very next afternoon I hunted down some outstanding Okanagan Riesling! Overall the food and pairings were wonderful. The most unforgettable combo was, by far, the tea fused cocktail pairing with the Hiramasa. The Pickerel, squash and Stripe all get honorable mentions.
An exceptional dining experience! The food was creative and bursting with flavor, and the service was attentive and welcoming. Highly recommend for a special night out!
Outstanding chefs tasting menu. Loved to see the Scandinavian traditional items like aebleskivers and dill oil made modern when combined with PNW ingredients. Highly recommended.
Ridiculously tiny portions, just every dish comes with a story . And the flavor is nothing special for the price.
Vegetarian options: Chicken fried maitake - sooo delicious and yes, vegetarian. The agnolotti .oooh girl. Just get it. Food
Carrots.
For the love of food this place is a must! We savoured each bite. Everything we had heard of and more. Thank you to the amazing chefs that prepared the meals. The bar staff that prepared our drinks. Thanks to our server as well. Absolutely on point and definitely would recommend eating here to others. Unfortunately our server did not look like she was having a good day. People have not so good days sometimes, so we hope she has better days. The service we got felt similar to a fast food chain the order was taken and facts were outputted. It did put a slight damper on our dinner but with the food being so lovely we quickly overlooked that. Amazing food and ambiance.
An absolutely incredible experience. Loved the family style ordering, plating, and courses. We ordered 9 dishes for our party of 3 (and could have done with 7-8) but still managed to eat nearly every bite because of how fantastic it all was. Highly recommend.
Published on Main is an absolute gem! The food was incredible, the atmosphere was perfect, and the service was top notch. I celebrated my birthday here and was served at the bar by an amazing server. She was an absolute champ, handled a complaint with such professionalism and grace while making sure we were well taken care of. The combination of exceptional food and outstanding service made it such a memorable experience. I can t wait to come back again!
Amazing all thanks Vegetarian options: Onion Food : 5/5 |
Weve been coming here for years, but this visit was disappointing. Some of the dishes were overly salty, which was unexpected. I also mentioned it was a birthday when I made the reservation, but there was no special touch, like a candle, on the dessert. Given this experience, Im unsure if well return in the future.
Great food! One of the places that truly deserves a Michelin star in Vancouver. I was surprised even after Europe.
I love this place so much! Super delicious food, great service, and very reasonable price.
A la carte. Very average taste. Most of the food came tangy which overpowered anything that chef tried to be creative about. Honestly it s nowhere close to a Michelin standard. Tasting menu could be different but not going to repeat
We were disappointed with the quality of the food, as everything was served cold. It seemed like the dishes were prepared days in advance and assembled when ordered. We ordered the pâté, which the waiter assured us contained foie gras, but when it arrived, there was none. Being from Switzerland, we ve dined at many Michelin-starred restaurants in France and Switzerland. We dont understand why Michelin even recommended this restaurant. Save your money and avoid this pretentious restaurant.
Came here to celebrate my birthday, entire party was left with food poisoning. I wrote an email and it has been 5 days without any response. Taste-wise, the cold shrimp dish tastes like styrofoam, the other dishes were better but we did wait a long time for the food, coat check wasnt really manned by any staff so upon exiting I just grabbed my own coat but I realized how easily another customer couldve mistakenly or willingly taken a fellow customers coat too. Lack of accountability and customer service around genuine concerns such as food quality is appalling for a restaurant that is supposedly Michelin-worthy.
Update: The manager of the restaurant replied my email and apologized for the inconvenience caused. I appreciate him for being professional in treating my complaint. Therefore I changed my rating. Original review: Everything was good except the host that was very rude and not professional. We were told that the restaurant needed the table back at 7:45pm. The food was great and our waitress was friendly & attentive. However the food was very slow to arrive. Each course came one after one slowly. This pushed our dinner time passed the 2 hour limit (slightly over 5 mins) that the host suggested when we first arrived. The dessert came at 7:50pm. We finished the dessert quickly within 5 mins. The server placed the bill on the table right after we finished dessert. I pulled my credit card out and was ready to pay without hesitation. My credit card transaction was at 7:56pm. (We did our best to be efficient to finish our meal!) Right after I paid the bill, as I was just wrapping up the conversation with my friend, the host impatiently stomped to me and said loudly in a bold voice: Can I get your coat??? I was shocked and just passed him the ticket. He then angrily stomped away then returned with my jacket. He leered at me and threw my jacket to me. I understood that we were late by a few minutes to leave, but I cannot accept his tone and rude manner. I understand the situation being the host needed the table back, but we could have been approached more coutesously. We expected more from a high end establishment where we paid good money to enjoy an evening there. He chose to stomp to us and yelled Can I get your coat?? . His attitude was very bad as a host. This is my first time to this restaurant and it is a truly unpleasant experience.
Absolutely incredible Aslyn our server (sorry if I spelt wrong) was such a treat, they made our experience so much fun and special, and were there when we needed at every turn. We ordered most of the menu and every dish was exquisite - surprisingly my favorite dish was the iceberg salad, don t sleep on this one! It was so well executed, and full of flavor. The 3 desserts we had were all out of this world, as were the cocktails. Definitely visit published while in Vancouver.
Lovely restaurant. Staff was so helpful and friendly. Food was everything I could have wished for. My date was awful and I still had a great time. Amazing experience. Highly recommended.
Service worst then McDonald s staff. This was my second time at Published on Main and it s disappointing to say that my experience this time was awful. Despite it being a Michelin star restaurant, I didn t have extreme high expectations for service given the atmosphere of the restaurant being more chic/modern, rather than formal fine dining. My previous experience here was great however after today I won t be coming again. Me and my partner spent over $600 on food with the tasting menu and all we got was servers that ignored us when saying thank you or bye, looking away when we wanted to order (multiple times), etc. Their attitudes are WORSE than the workers at fast food joints like churches chicken or McDonalds. It s surprising to think that a restaurant of this caliber wouldn t do the minimum to train staff to smile, greet or acknowledge the existence of their customer. Tipping culture is normalized in Vancouver, and because we ordered the tasting menu, tips was 22% mandatory when making the reservation- otherwise I would ve given 0. The food was delicious and unique (I have to give credit for that), but if you want to experience grumpy, unfriendly staff, this is the place. Otherwise, you re better off eating McDonald and you ll walk out happier.
TL;DR: Despite only hearing rave reviews, my experience was extremely disappointing because of Published on Mains unwillingness to accommodate lactose intolerance and the rest of the food being underwhelming. I have no desire to return. This review only has one star because however decent the service and atmosphere was, Im ultimately here for the food which completely fell flat for me. Please see the dietary restriction section of this review for more info about that, but comparing Published on Main to restaurants like Suyo and Kissa Tanto at similar prices points, both those restaurants gladly made dairy free dishes and dairy free tasting menus (and subjectively, both other restaurants food and cocktails were much better). This was a 2-person birthday dinner, and we received a free non-alcoholic cocktail which was a nice touch and a candle on one dessert. We ordered: - The squid, which we could not chew and was tasteless. It came in a mushroom broth which was fine. - The gnocchi, which tasted only of butter. I couldnt eat it and my partner chose not to finish it for the same reason. - The bee pollen milk buns which were good, but not good enough for this price point (ordered for my partner who can have dairy). - The carrots, which were good, but not great. - The squash, which again was good, but not great. - The Manitoba pickerel which had good but not great fish, though whatever vegetables formed the base were not good and we both chose not to finish it. - The apple sorbet, which somehow made both our throats feel scratchy and tight despite no allergies? This was really strange and Ive never experienced something like this. - The chocolate dessert which was good. It sounds like were really picky eaters, and its up to you to decide whether you believe me, but we are both very open to trying new food and have had great quality meals at restaurants with similar price points. Dietary restrictions: TL;DR: Few restaurants have been as unaccommodating as Published on Main for lactose intolerance, though they were very clear on which menu items I could still have. Published on Main was not willing to adjust their tasting menu months in advance for lactose intolerance, and recommended the a la carte menu. Upon arrival for an a la carte menu reservation, they provided a printed menu and circled items that were dairy free and items that (in their words) contained a small amount of butter (which I had said was fine for my particular situation). This really impressed me as no other restaurant has done this, but unfortunately the number of items I could have were very few in number relative to the size of the menu. I asked about a few different dishes and whether the dairy could be modified, but the restaurant was unwilling to modify any menu item to do so. For example, they were not willing to place a dishs sauce on the side. The gnocchi dish that they indicated worked for me did not have a small amount of butter - I had to stop eating after just 3 small pieces and still suffered for having done so. Obviously up to you whether you believe me, but I swear thats like the most buttery thing Ive eaten and normally butter sits totally okay.
Really excellent experience! The food is top notch and the atmosphere is fantastic as well!
A fantastic dining experience. Tasting menu was absolutely delicious, creative, and done right. Kudos to the team behind this place. Hope to be back again and again.
Just do it
Chef was let down by a poor server who made no effort to accommodate for vegan options. After coming back the third time we ended up having more options than we started with. If we had this effort from the start we would have enjoyed a nice meal but it ruined our experience sadly.
Dennis was wonderful in curating a menu for us and tweaking as we went along to our taste. Wonder 100% come back and they are deserving of their star!
This place has a star for a reason. Objectively, its awesome. The food was divine, the suggest wine pairing was spot on (even within my constraint of wanting a white that tastes like licking a rock), the atmosphere was pretty neat, and the staff was appropriately flirty and welcoming. I came in on a whim and got a spot for one at the bar and was left alone with my book (which I so deeply appreciated). My server noted that Published really excells at seafood and he wasnt lying - I got some fish, some prawns, and added some focaccia to dip into all the liquids and sauces (am I a heathen for this? probably). I didnt try any dessert because Im a sour candy girl and had some Haribo at home, but Im sure it would have been mind blowing. I trust these people to feed my aesthetic sensibilities. So, objectively, it was awesome. Im pleased that I spent the $$$$ on the experience considering all the hype. But I give a 4/5 star review because of this exact hype - the vibe of the whole thing was kind of bizarre. I mean, I love Vancouver (and consider myself an absolute simp for this city), but, man, some places just have an affect of hostility entangled with its deep welcoming atmosphere. Part of this is the culture of fine dining - when you can only afford to go every once in a long while, you dont have the privilege of being a regular to these kinds of spaces, which is in tension with the performance of the staff to make you feel like youre a loved, adored, respected, and utterly taken care of regular. But the other weird vibe here is how totally Vancouver it feels... kind of superficial and skin deep. Patrons looked sad, uncomfortable, and were often glancing around to see who else was near them. One table near me sounded to be having a good time, joking and laughing and teasing each other, passing dishes and genuinely appreciating the company (perhaps as much as the food). But I got the feeling here that people felt uncomfortable in their own skin in such a fancy and sexy place/eatery. Maybe thats the capitalism that we are all crushed under - were all trying our hardest to survive here, seeking that validation that were hot and successful - but I guess Im kind of tired of having to face the nicety and politeness performances of it all. I dont know why Im obsessed with authenticity, but man, face (like saving face) felt like a secret economy here. Idk. I guess when Im trying to be an optimist in this city and actually smile at people on the street, the facade of class feels like a bummer. Id go back again with a cute date and my anthropological eye... that wine was seriously amazing. And maybe I should just cave and do the Vancouver performance of being too cool for school to feel at ease.
Our food was great. Some things were not our taste but I could still tell it was great and well made. Visually, everything was stunning. Acoustics were very good too. Docking points only for service here. Our server was subpar and even had some remarks that caught the attention of the people around us.
We were so excited for the 10 course tasting menu with the wine pairing (extra $105 each) and boy were we disappointed. The first course of snacks and seafood courses plus pairings were solid but not special. The dishes were creative and light but the flavors werent strong or complementary. They also took 30+ minutes for each course to come out, at one point we were tipsy and having a great time but waited so long for our next course we sobered up and became hungry again. The meal quickly went downhill from here. Over salted food to the point that it burnt my tongue and wines were sweeter than the desserts to the point of disgust. Our meal went on for 3.5 hours and lasted beyond the restaurant closing. You would think the servers would have haste in closing our tab at that point. Baffled by the michelin star and all the hype. Avoid this place
Amazing fine dining experience, the servers are great Dietary restrictions: Can notify server and make adjustments Wheelchair accessibility: Accessibility bathroom and no stairs
I had high hopes due to a friend s rave reviews, despite seeing the mixed reviews on Google. Turns out I should have given more weight to the low reviews. Some of the food was just shockingly bad. Like maybe we didn t order the best things, but I would expect everything at a Michelin starred restaurant to be well-planned and executed. It was hard to believe that this was the case here. The main themes were that the food was overly salty and buttery. The sauce on the fish and the gnocchi were good examples of this. The crab in the crab dish was so disappointing. So salty and not fresh + we found a shell in it. The cheesy sauce with the asparagus was so heavy and the chimichurri like sauce on top was also so intense and clashed flavor wise. Next, the meal took 2.5 hours before we could leave and most of it consisted of waiting for food. Between our 4th and 5th dish, we waited no joke 44 minutes (I have photo timestamps).
Almost all of the dishes were excellent. Both of the cocktails I tried were perfect and I had to resist the urge to keep throwing them back.
Vegetarian options: Everything was delicious. We had 11 dishes and the only one that seemed to conflict with the flavours was the Brussel sprouts. Apple pie and Banana desserts were incredible. Food
SUCH a great visa infinite dining experience!
Best meal Ive had in a long time. Id recommend getting whats seasonal. And the bartenders are cool.
Great food!!! We did the 10 course pre-fix menu. The only thing was that the wait between dishes was a lot. Other than that great experience.
Ok I want to first say it is my third time going to published and prior I loved it. But tonight was a miss start to finish. Food -service attention to detail just wasn t there. I appreciated the attempt of the manager to damage control the night. But the food has to do the talking.
There is better service at cactus club. Waiters should be able to pronounce the dishes. Atmosphere: lacking, was like sitting at a Starbucks or ikea. Dishes were meh, mostly butter and aguachile not very creative or new. Food : 1/5
We were in town for my wife s birthday and wanted to go somewhere special to celebrate. We really enjoyed our meal here.
Thanks for showing us a great time on our anniversary last night!
Wonderful experience!! Our server Allison was great and very attentive!! The food was phenomenal our favorite was the Sweet Onion Agnolotti! Highly recommend. Thank you for a great date night!
Excellent food in an excellent atmosphere
Try the tasting menu.
the Iceburg salad is a must try. Excellent food excellent service!
Incredible. Gastronomic experience that is unparalleled in the city. You re not just having a meal you re having an experience. Everything was divine and the execution to presentation was flawless. The balance of sweet and savoury was amazing. Will come again to try another seasonal tasting menu.
WOW. Delicious! An upscale fine dining treat.
Everything on the menu was interesting and served beautifully. It just took us longer waiting time before getting seated and our orders be taken. since it was busy during dinner service. The staff was accommodating, informative & gave great food suggestions for us.
Amazing food and service!
Tonight, after dinner at home, we spontaneously decided to satisfy some sweet cravings and ended up at Publish on Main. We went just for dessert and tried two amazing ones: Hay and Chocolate. The Hay dessert was light and refreshing, with aerated hay, green apple, slushies, and chamomile, sprinkled with flower petals. It had such a unique mix of textures foamy, fruity, slushy, and creamy. Some sweet, sour, and other flavours. The Chocolate dessert, on the other hand, had dark chocolate panna cotta, banana sorbet, and peanut butter semifreddo with crispy stuff sprinkled which gave everything a crispy texture to it. I thought it would be so sweet, but it was actually savory in the actual taste which was a pleasant surprise. I never expected how delectable their offerings would be! They also have two types of set menus full and half and they said it changes quite often, so theres lots to explore. Pricing is pretty standard for fine dining, and I m definitely coming back to try more. We paired the desserts with green tea, which was a perfect, calming complement to the dishes. Nick and Tristan, served us while we were dining, and were both super attentive, checking in regularly and giving detailed descriptions of each dessert. All in all, a delightful way to end the night! Ill definitely return.
If you want a new dining experience this is the place. The food is amazing, and the flavours of each dish is a culinary experience!
Wonderful atmosphere, meal and especially the service. We enjoyed everything very much. Their Michelin star is well deserved.
Went for a special occasion dinner, made the reservation online, was SO looking forward to it to cap off a milestone celebration. When we arrived, 15 minutes early (so as to ensure we werent late and wouldnt lose our deposit), we were told we could go for a walk and come back at our appointed time. Yes, we were literally being kicked out of the restaurant for arriving 15 minutes early! It was, by the way, half empty. We asked if we could sit at the bar, and were told we could sit by the coat check/front door, or come back later. They didnt want to compromise the quality service for our diners by... what? Having us sit at the bar and not talk to anyone? The hostess claimed we would overwhelm the bartender which... again, the place was half empty and the bar was entirely empty. If they hadnt been holding the deposit we would have left and gone somewhere else, the reception was that off-putting. Way to wreck our anniversary, Published. Nonetheless, we tried to keep an open mind and enjoy the meal. Our server was pretentious and disinterested. The food was solidly good, beautifully presented, but have had better in Vancouver. Nothing mind-blowing, nothing exceptional. Overall, preciousness over actual quality.
I . Don t . Get . The . Hype
Food was outstanding. Be aware that it is family style. We particularly liked how they spaced the different selection to make a multiple course menu.
Best tasting menu experience we had in Western Canada, hands down. Combinations of ingredients, souces, and visual presentation was superior! Wine pairing was incredible as well. Oh, and dont forget the house caviar!
So bad with the serving experience. Every single course takes 30mins. It s so rude when I set down and telling us we have to finish the dinner quickly because there is another reservation behind us. So bad
Very unassuming facade of the restaurant, but the food and service were excellent. Highly recommended if you re looking for a fine dining restaurant that used locally sourced ingredients.
Very good tasting menu. Very reflective of West Coast cuisine.
this a michelin star restaurant? almost all of the dishes were way too salty... some to the point of being inedible (chicken liver and lamb). it seemed as though the focus was on creativity rather than taste. 2 of the dishes we ordered we didnt even eat. also, when i order lamb, i want lamb, not donair. if i want donair, ill go to donair dude. overall, extremely disappointing and not michelin worthy... not even close. service was also poor... forgotten drinks, and not attentive
The food quality was exceptional, with each dish beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor.
Pretty average restaurant, doesn t worse the hype. The food was good, but too fatty. The servers pushed us to order more and more. Moreover, we had to wait a lot to be able to make the order or pay the bill. We celebrated a birthday, and as a birthday treat the gave us 2 candies. I think it s better if they didn t do anything at all. Pretty disappointing.
I had some feelings about Published before I ever got there. In my (excellent, heavy, obsessive) restaurant research prior to visiting Vancouver, Id found that Published seemed to be quite the heavyweight, so obviously I had to try for a reservation. I was able to get one, although I was confused by the way the reservation confirmation email seemed to say that the restaurant couldnt make any modifications to the menu. Im pescatarian and so was my dining partner, so this was a problem. I emailed the restaurant and got a reply back a few days later saying that since the menu was so seafood forward, the chef was willing to do a pescatarian menu to accommodate us. While I was very happy about this, I felt a twinge of frustration that other expensive gastronomy restaurants, even on the Worlds Best list, were perfectly able to accommodate a pescatarian menu without my having to email them. That said, though, once that was taken care of, the experience itself at the restaurant was excellent. The food was all high notes without a single course disappointing. The nonalcoholic cocktail list was long and deeply creative. The No Anesthesia drink was absolutely the best nonalcoholic cocktail I have ever tried. Peanut sauce in a drink? Yes. Wow. My only note about the service was that our primary server who was with us for about 2/3 of the night was relieved by another server who didnt have the same level of enthusiasm or energy or investment, it seemed. Where the first server had enjoyed talking about the dishes and cocktails, the second seemed more reserved and simply a deliverer of the information as necessary. It would have been great to have the first server the whole way through, but alas. Not enough to amend my view of the restaurant, however. I recommend Published on Main wholeheartedly, and hope to return with more friends in tow.
Amazing dining experience. Will be back for sure.
On my first trip to Vancouver while living in Toronto, I visited this restaurant that had one star and was ranked 1st or 2nd in Vancouver. Ive been to a lot of restaurants, but this was my first time at a restaurant like this... The service is beyond words... Ill just talk about the taste... I have no idea what intentions and thoughts went into these foods. Its too salty. Its just salty, salty, salty. When I said it was too salty, haha, the server (an Asian woman with long hair) said that peoples tastes are different... Yeah... I tried to think that too, but thats not true... It was chewing salt... (Usually, servers at restaurants dont explain this to me in situations like this, but they have to respond by saying, Ill talk to the kitchen and theyll check. .... I also work in the dessert department at a restaurant. As someone who can work, this is basic...) The taste is so bad and there is so little sincerity in the food... Just go somewhere else, please (Go to Nightingale or Hooksworth Restaurant... Dont throw away $440 like I did...) After arriving in Toronto, the shock didnt go away so I went to a famous restaurant in Toronto (Julieta). The price was half the price and the service was also crazy. Just... dont go... sincerely. Dietary restrictions: Its a salty food... Its salt.
We enjoyed the 10-course rafting menu to celebrate my wifes birthday. This restaurant clearly cares about all the details. The food and service were impeccable. The 10-course service took about three hours. Im sure some people get through it faster but we were savoring every bite.
Great food, worth price
The food speaks for itself, it all tasted as good as it looks!
Service was very disappointing for the price and reputation of this restaurant. The server walked away abruptly before taking everyone s drink order and then appeared annoyed when the remaining people at our table asked to order drinks. The food and drinks were delicious!
We went for the half tasting menu, but one person in our party didnt eat seafood. They dont change the tasting menu, but for the same price they created a tasting menu with the a-la-carte dishes, and we end up having more than the 6 experiences in the half tasting menu
Good but not that special. We tried about 8 - 10 dishes and the only one I would recommend is the scallops. Tried a couple of drinks too and they were underwhelming, sounded better on the menu than they actually were.
nice very
Truly enjoyed our six- course tasting menu at Published On Main. The Steelhead, beans and tomato dashi dish has wrecked me for all other salmon preparations. I was hesitant about the Published meal from reading and/or listening to others postings. The negative comments about the food not being memorable and the staff having an attitude were definitely NOT our experience. Thank you Published on Main for your welcoming us to your delightful restaurant!
Its a great place. We had a delicious dinner.
The heirloom tomato salad with burrata and the chocolate dessert were stand outs. Honestly, a good dining experience but not sure about the Michelin star.
Better than Michelin and even better than Michelin I can t choose which one is the best...even the desserts, which I usually don t eat, are delicious! good! eat! The restaurant my family chose today is 100% positive
Super
QR code menu was the only thing at this restaurant that wasnt ideal - Not everyone wants their cellphone everywhere at all times, or has data. They did give me a paper menu when i asked. For a fine dining shared plate experience, the portions are quite substantial. Drinks are excellent. Published is sophisticated and the staff seem to work together very well. As a millennial I appreciated the nostalgic soundtrack the night I was in. The stand out dish for me was the roasted carrots.
Finally tried Published on Main for a fancy celebration. Theyre a one star Michelin spot. It was packed on a Thursday evening. Service was good. Dinner took three hours. Tasting menu is $165.00/person for 10 courses. - Hay there - complimentary glasses. - Yuzu mushroom soda ($14.00) - Milans sungold tomatoes ($24.00) - sweet but not worth the price point. - Spicy pacific octopus ($36.00) - corn purée and chanterelles were tasty. - Seared rare venison ($34.00) - venison was okay, potato salad dressing was awful. - Sungold lamb ($69.00) - lamb was excellent. Donair meat and falafels were okay. Homemade pita was light and fluffy. - Fraser Valley duck ($59.00) - duck was tender, tart (duck sausage and heart) filling. - Toasted hay ($14.00) - best dish of the evening. Aerated custard paired beautifully with the green apple style granita. Definitely a splurge meal. 3.5 stars.
Great experience
We had the half tasting menu, plus some milk buns. Our servers were extremely accommodating and friendly. They greeted us, and walked us through all the courses- which were fantastic, each and every one. Loved the corn consomme in particular! The presentation was very minimal, but the flavour was complex and interesting. It was a special night and Im so happy we spent it at POM.
Been twice now for ala Carte dining and both times have had similar experiences. Food is fantastic and a 5/5. The chicken fried mushrooms, porcini ravioli (special) and chocolate peanut butter dessert were wonderful! However, both times the service has been slow, staff would forget our requests, and food would take a while to get out of the kitchen. Perhaps its different with the tasting menu, but both times weve had issues when weve done the ala Carte menu with people forgetting things and food & requests taking a long time. Though Id give the service a 3/5 the staff is genuinely lovely. Would def go back for the food, but just expect a little better service while at a Michelin star spot.
So goooood . Great servers. Pro service. Def try it
Highly recommended. We tried this resto for the first time and my goodness! I was out of words to describe my first bite, it was perfect!
Our visit to Published on Main was nothing short of spectacular. The restaurant not only met but surpassed our lofty expectations. Each course was a masterpiece, showcasing exquisite flavors and impeccable presentation. Our server, Dennis, was exceptional; his recommendations guided us through a culinary journey that felt both personal and profound. Dining here was not just a meal, but an unforgettable experience.
Don t go here on Thursdays.
Leah was an amazing guide for our culinary experience! Food, cocktails and service were all on point!
Our journey to Published on Main started on their website reservation page. Where we were requested to pay for the full amount of our future menu plus 20% tips. Having to pay gratuity before entering a restaurant is quite a questionable move in our opinion. We then made our way to the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, not ostentatious. Then came our waitress, cold from the beginning to the end. It might be why the restaurant requested us to pay for the gratuity before meeting the staff, no need to earn it anymore. Beside this person, the other staff members we met were very friendly. We had a blast meeting the sommelier, a very knowledgeable and passionate man. The wine and liquor were delicious. The food was very good, tasty, and well seasoned. The sauces were excellent. Great food but nothing out of the ordinary. Coming from a Michelin starred restaurant we were expecting a bit more from it. Everything tasted great but nothing was particularly mind blowing. To sum up, Published on Main is a great restaurant but far from the best in Vancouver.
Great food and terrific service.
I expected more from a Michelin Star establishment. We opted for the half chefs tasting menu, 6 courses. The website said they were available by phone to make reservations daily before dinner service. We called a few times on separate weekdays and no one ever picked up. To make a reservation, you had to prepay for the meal in full + mandatory 20% gratuity. A bit bold to demand this before we ve even sat down During dinner, they forgot to serve us our second dish after waiting for 30 minutes. They apologized and blamed it on a communication issue. We thought it was a one-off, but every course was served in this cadence. it is difficult to enjoy a meal when you re waiting 25-30 min between each course. Elements of each dish were also quite repetitive for a chefs tasting menu. A lot of compressed cucumbers. I cannot and will not recommend this establishment to friends or family, for fear of disappointment.
Exceptional in every way
The food was excellent but very expensive for what you get.
My friend and I tried half of the test menu, and I found every dish amazing, enjoying every bite of the delicious food. The flavors were very fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. The service was good too, and I quite like this restaurant. However, my friend didnt like the dishes here; she thought the sauces were too sour.
side stripe shrimp (26) / chicken liver (30) / dungeness crab (34) / sungold lamb (69) / pork neck schnitzel (46) / roasted fraser valley duck (60) / hay (14) / le disco (14) / coffee (14)
10/10 would recommend. We did the half tasting menu and loved the experience.
Went ala carte..food came out fast main server was great even helped correct a miscommunication. Food was tasty for most part high quality ingredients.. would return decent spot for a date. Parking: Neighbourhood around the corner has free parking if you can find a spot
6 course Tasting menu was superb.
I recently dined at POM on a Friday night with my girlfriend. Unfortunately I had a very disappointing experience not from the food itself but from the quality control and the restaurant s response. Approximately 2 hours after my meal, my girlfriend and I began feeling the symptoms and suffering from food poisoning the entire night. We attempted to figure out but the only common food we had was at POM as we worked full day and had entirely separate meals (we had a full meal including desserts at POM and nothing after). I reached out to the restaurant to express my concerns and hoped for a reasonable resolution or at least an acknowledgment of the issue. Regrettably, their response was disappointing; they put it back on us indicating that your system often takes 8-12 hours to digest and start having reaction, which would not be from their food. From a quick google search, this is not true and again, this was the only food we had in common so we don t know what else could be the cause. Given the price point, I cannot recommend dining here, especially considering it s a Michelin Star restaurant. If you are paying $150 per person, this should not have to be a concern as a customer.
Disappointed. The first couple courses were fantastic, tasted great and presentation was beautiful. But the last few courses got progressively worse we could tell from the tables around us that they felt the same as they had the same disappointing look after the initial bite and decided not to touch it again. One thing that made the experience even worse for us was I paid approx $700 plus 20% tips weeks before we even stepped into the restaurant and when we ordered 3 drinks at the restaurant which I knew I had to pay for and tipped just 10% on those 3 drinks the server looked at the receipt, didn t say anything, and walked away. And as we were leaving he stared at me and maintained eye contact without saying a word as we walked past him... Comparing to our past experiences at other Michelin restaurants we don t recommend this place. Your money would be better spent elsewhere. To add: The service wasn t on par to what they re charging and perhaps their intent is to be a more casual dining experience (all the workers were wearing random clothing ranging from button up short sleeves to graphic tees. And lacked consistency by each person introducing each dish. Some were quiet, others talked very fast, and some were fine.)
Just want to say right off the bat, great service! Now the disappointing part: the food. I really had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately it just didn t hit the mark. The quality of the food was not what one would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Maybe you could say my palette isn t sophisticated enough for the cuisine here, but the toughness and rubberiness of the octopus, and the complete culinary confusion of the lamb dish would make anyone question the food. I wished I could ve said I ll be back, in Arnold s voice, but unfortunately I can t.
One of my favorites in Vancouver (but I havent been here for long). My favorite dish is the torched hiramasa, but I didnt like the dungeness crab. The tasting menu was great, but portion was too big for me.
My favourite meal in 10 years of Vancouver fine dining. If I could eat at one place for the rest of my life, this is it!
We had high expectations for this Michelin one-star restaurant, but unfortunately, we were left disappointed. The food was overly salty to the point where it left our throats sore, and the overpowering flavors masked the natural tastes of the ingredients. Out of the eight dishes we ordered, only the tomato salad stood out, allowing us to actually taste the sweetness of the tomatoes. The sharing plate style contributed to long waits between dishes, leaving us hungry and frustrated. We had 3-4 different servers, and their service was inconsistent: one forgot the dish ingredients, another spoke so softly we couldn t hear the introduction at all. While the plating and fresh ingredients were notable, there are many other fine dining options in Vancouver that offer a better culinary experience. Better spend the money on restaurants that actually make the time worthwhile.
Tasting menu should be an exclusive experience but the atmosphere here is rather chaotic. I have experienced different tasting menu around the world and I think the owner should really make an effort for customers who paid for the tasting menu experiences.
We were here for a wine pairing dinner. All very good, however, I thought their chefs over-created a bit. Service was excellent as it should be. https://amzn.to/3YNoIZv
A great place to visit, especially if you are looking for a high-end experience or have someone to impress. It is on the top 10 lists of Canadas best restaurant and was #1 a few years ago - they deserve it. The format is meant to be shared, about 2-3 dishes per person is more than plenty. The only disappointment was the service. Even with a reservation, and one in a party of 2 arriving early, they will not sit us. This is despite there was only ONE table left empty, which was ours when we finally did get seated. My friend asked to sit by the bar and get a drink but this was declined. Ultimately, the manager was involved and she tried to remedy this by apologizing and offered to move us to a quieter section (since we had requested it in the reservation) in the back but the seating was side by side rather than a table. I would have thought they would offer a free dessert, or a drink, for this but none was provided. I am unsure if I would return given the price of the meal for two was over $350 with two glasses of wine and a mocktail, given the ambiance and service. The food is innovative enough but the experience was not as wonderful as other top-notch restaurants in the city are able to deliver.
The food was really great, and the staff were very accommodating to dietary needs. They also recommended the best dishes, so I suggest asking for their suggestions. The tables are a bit small, which can be tricky if there are only two of you with dishes and drinks. Their drink menu is very innovative, but honestly, the prices were a bit high, so we opted for the wine, which is all natural, local, and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend their gnocchi it was incredible and their chips are a big hit too, as well as the milk buns.
I forgot one of my favorite peoples names but Haley was one and the other started with M. The food was incredible. Had the tasting menu and a shocking standout was a tomato treated with such respect it was better than the foie Gras. Laid back but impeccable. Thank you all so much for the experience. Ill be back.
Come here once a year when in Vancouver, and look forward to the visit as it s always stellar. This time was a little less so-some dishes were over salted, some had little to no flavor but the Danish savory donuts are still a winner. Cocktails and service at the bar were wonderful. Please bring back your chips & dip
Came with our 3 year old, loved this place. First I really appreciate a place that will take a kid and serve this caliber of food. Our family of 3 ordered about 10 different things off the menu and we loved almost all the flavors. The buns were a hit with the 3 year old along with the cassis dessert. We loved all the seafood, shrimp, fish, octopus, scallops, lovely combination of flavors that s quite unique. The only one we were as in love with was the morel gnocchi which felt a touch too heavy on cream/butter. All three desserts (hay, disco, strawberry) we got were excellent, light and just a touch of sweetness. I tend to dislike super sweet desserts and theirs were perfect. The service was excellent. Our 3 year old wanted a drink like the alcoholic mix dad was drinking and we asked if a non alcoholic version can be prepared and the barman did an amazing job with a juice version that was sipped down in no time. Will absolutely be back every time we are in Vancouver.
Best meal Ive ever had. Vegetarian options: The gnocchi is incredible Food : 5/5 |
Published was able to easily and safely accommodate my request for gluten free items. Everything we ordered was beautiful and delicious.
Very delicious but expensive. No long wait between dishes. Environment and vibes are good in general but could be more better. Food : 5/5
We had a chance to get a reservation on our anniversary date. Our experience here was great! The staff was attentive from arrival to finish. He was very knowledgeable about their dishes and would recommend whats new in the menu as well. The food we ordered was very tasty and delicious. I really love the plating and how they would tell you about the food you ordered when they serve it to you. Just superb service. Walk-ins are almost not possible especially during the weekends. You must reserve earlier online if you want a specific date. But hey, the experience is going to be worth it.
My husband and I agreed that this was probably the best meal we have ever had in our lives. Service was friendly and prompt. The staff was very kind. We were late to our reservation due to a travel delay and the manager checked in on us via text and after explaining our situation was able to hold our table on a busy Friday night. My son who is very picky ate the fried mushrooms like they were the best thing he had ever eaten, he has never before eaten a mushroom in his life! Every dish we tried for dinner and dessert was amazing and beautifully presented. If I didnt live in Florida I wod absolutely go back in a heartbeat!
Exceptional
This place has a unique tasting menu, takes a while to get in, however, it is worth the wait. I went from my birthday last year, and I was not disappointed.
Excellent service. The dishes were a flavour pop in your mouth. We ordered 9 dishes for 4 and were very full.
One of the best meals I ve experienced in Vancouver, though it comes with a hefty price tag. The drink menu was both entertaining and whimsical, with each drink being a delightful treat. The caviar addition was a luxurious touch, paired wonderfully with the madeleines, which were crispy, sweet, and perfectly baked a surprising yet delightful accompaniment to the caviar. The starters were fresh and enjoyable, with the candied salmon being a standout. Having tried the candied salmon at Granville Island market, I can confidently say this piece was far superior, reminiscent of ichiya-boshi, a Japanese dried fish dish that is incredibly flavorful. The next course, despite its simple appearance, was extraordinary. The silken tofu was the softest and most delicate I have ever eaten. As someone who is Japanese and married to a Japanese woman, I have tasted a lot of tofu, and this was the best by far. The hiramasa was fantastic, though it s hard to go wrong with such a quality cut. The steelhead with ikura and tobiko was beautifully presented and offered a delightful array of flavors. The vegetable plate was elegantly presented, providing a fresh palate cleanser before the beef with truffle sauce and turnip puree. The mushrooms served alongside the beef were the stars of the meal, closely followed by the tofu. While the rest of the desserts were enjoyable, they were somewhat forgettable. Overall, this was a fantastic meal with an amazing ambiance, excellent service, and delicious food. I would strongly recommend this restaurant. Given the strong Japanese influence, I may be partial to the food preparation, but this was truly an exquisite dining experience.
I had booked this visit few months back for my 50th birthday and I was so excited to go and celebrate with family. It was a lovely day 27C outside and I had a sleeves dress on and high hills. Once we entered I noticed the inside temperature was 18 or bellow cold. Majority of staff and customers had a shawl or jacket on. I was cold and I asked several times if the Ac could be turned off or set to a higher temp. I got a lot of excuse of how it was hard to a comodate e eryone and sorry they could not help me. If you are going to freeze people in the middle of summer at least have decency to have blankets to offer people who donot enjoy dining in a cold box. Or when confir.ing give a heads up for us to bring our own jackets. Dinner took 2 painful hours as food took so long to come out. I could not wait to get out. Hands down worst birthday dinner ever and $ 400 dollar cost to add salt to injury. We had been to.published 3 years ago and had really enjoyed it. But we are Not going back. Please consider leaving part of your facility as a no AC zone. We have such a short summer in Vancouver lets enjoy it. Thank you
I rarely write reviews. If there is an issue, I raise it to the restaurant at the time. Its been over 6 months and the experience I had at Published still bothers me. I will never return. This was our first Michelin star experience and had high expectations. The waiter we had was as best as I can describe as an entitled hipster. Part way through our evening he asked if we were enjoying a dish, we commented on one item that wasnt good. He said ok, and walked off. WOW. Michelin star restaurant, really? Then we went to pay and the waiter was MIA for 10 minutes. I ended up having to walk to the bar and ask someone to pay. That person asked about the meal, and I raised my concerns. She said im sorry to hear that, I wish you let me know earlier so I could have done something. I didnt know who she was, and I dont think its a customers responsibility to escalate concerns to a manager. I emailed after to give them another shot before leaving a review. They said theyd have something special waiting if I came back again. Sorry, you want me to come and risk another poor experience for $200+, for the chance of a surprise?! Is it a free dessert, a drink, $20 off? The food is good, I will give them that. But it was not amazing. There are better overall options available in Vancouver! So with that, I will never visit Published again. And I will always tell my story to others when they ask what restaurants to visit.
Absolutely incredible dining experience. Special shout out to the Som who answered all my questions with patience and grace. Absolutely worth the money for the tasting menu. The level of craft and care are out of this world.
Lovely summer menu, very fresh and creative dishes with complex flavors. We ordered 8 dishes for 3 people, which was too many, Id recommend 2 each, as they are served family style and shared.
We had a just about perfect experience at Published on Main during a few days visit to Vancouver. Its not a vegetarian restaurant, but their vegetarian offerings are fantastic and were still salivating about what we ate. Its not downtown so if youre based in a hotel downtown and wavering about whether to visit, its well worth the rideshare to get there. Youll feel like youve discovered a local gem with plenty of elevated and delicious food to eat for every diet. The cocktails are creative and beautiful too...I had the Breakfast Special Cocktail (I dont see it on their website menu so not sure if thats not up to date or if it was a seasonal special.) It was gorgeous to look at, fluffy with an egg white, and by the end of it I was definitely happy I ordered it. Highlight from our vegetarian choices where the Chicken Fried Maitake Mushroom - This especially is the dish we keep thinking about weeks later...raising existential questions like should we fly back to Vancouver just to eat this etc. REALLY GOOD! We also had the Green Asparagus which they made for us without the meat stock it usually comes with...fresh and delicious, and the Bee Pollen Buns which were fluffy and pretty...but otherwise just bread...I didnt get so much honey or pollen on my palate from them...but that could also be the influence of the Breakfast Cocktail. All of their desserts, we were told, have gelatin in them so not suitable for vegetarians and we were headed off to explore some of Vancouvers ice cream options anyway. They did give us a couple of house-made candies to end which was a nice treat (and suitable for vegetarians.) We would 100% come back to Published on Main again if we were in Vancouver...that Chicken Fried Mushroom dish will stay with us forever.
Finally got a chance to go here!!! Wow! WOW! Wow! The host, the servers, the staff are all amazing! Great decor! Great vibe!! Insanely phenomenal food!! We got the striped shrimp, Dungeness crab, summer squash, octopus, roasted scallops, roasted fire gnocchi, sungold lamb, and then the chocolate and coffee for dessert!!!! It is all scrumptious! Delicious! Heavenly! Fantastically phenomenal!!!
Beautiful 1 Michelin star restaurant in Vancouver. Had the full tasting menu and was worth every dollar spent. Extras also well worth it. Also worth noting was the outstanding service particularly from Marlo who was our primary server. Would happily come back here if I had the chance to try the ala carte options. Very very very highly recommended.
Food was delicious, and the setting was very nice and not too loud. Would definitely come again. Our waiter was brilliant. However, the greeter who sat us was really rude. When I checked in, she immediately started copying my accent, which was really unbelievable, to be honest. When we sat down, the menu was entirely paperless that you access with a QR code - great if you have internet and a smart phone. I was visiting with my mother, and we are from outside the country, so I asked for a paper menu for her, so she could see the choices more easily than us having to both peer at my phone screen. The greeter rolled her eyes and made a big fuss about this very simple request. Thankfully, this was the last interaction with her, and the rest of the night was lovely as a result.
Our waiter Dennis was very informed and attentive. Upscale atmosphere and creative delicious food.
Really good, my 4th time here. Huge portions, tons of flavor, beautiful plating, great suggestions for wine, and lovely genuine service without being pretentious. Something I wanted to share was just that way too many dishes would come out at once, slow it down please. I dont like having 3 dishes on the table at once.
Everything we had was unique and pretty fabulous but I am still dreaming about the scallop with alkaline noodles and spicy carbonara
We had an absolutely wonderful time at Published. The staff, especially Layla, were so accommodating - we were running late after delayed travel plans and they made every effort to fit us in and allow us to enjoy our evening. The food was incredible; this felt like the finest dining (think fresh local ingredients, exquisitely well presented with interesting yet unpretentious flavours) being served by such friendly, welcoming people in a relaxed setting where we felt at home. The carrots in particular were our favourite, as well as the gnocchi. The selection of wines was also super interesting, with a thoughtful menu of biodynamic wines. I particularly liked the pamplemousse jus sparkling! Published formed the best meal of our honeymoon by far, and we will be recommending it far and wide. Thank you so, so much for a lovely meal and an even better evening Vegetarian options: Clear pescatarian and vegetarian options available, as well as able to substitute when appropriate.
The chocolate dessert is the best thing I have ever tasted
Absolutely not worthy of a Michelin star. Food was meh, service was horrible, atmosphere was meh, very noisy.
Very unique menu, inventive cocktails and stunning tasty food items.
Vegetarian options: There was plenty of vegan options and they provided a menu that marked off which were vegan. And there were some that they would replace an ingredient so that its vegan. Food
Super gourmet Michelin Every dish is great and can be eaten together The service was great. The sauce accidentally dripped on the table. Please clean it up right away. 20240523 Second visit The whole change, especially the Tasting menu, only one dish is as delicious as last year, the rest is just like what the interns cooked, super salty soup, super salty main course The waitress also has a very smelly face I really don t know what happened to this restaurant?
Eating here is a dining experience, not dinner. We had a party of 4, and shared 10 small plates of some of the best and most interesting dishes weve ever had. The number and range of choices were large, and we each ordered what looked intriguing without duplicating. The rather random set was organized (curated may be a better word) into a set of courses over a two hour meal by a very attentive waiter. Five star service, for sure. This was not a cheap meal, but we left agreeing that it was worth the cost for an outstanding experience.
Overall, a great experience. The food was excellent except for a couple dishes that werent for my palette. Some highlights and must order: - bee pollen milk buns - hiramasa - scallops pasta - duck breast - dessert: the one with the anise and grapes - super refreshing and so delicious Dennis was a wonderful and attentive server. He knew the menu, made recommendations, and took our feedback to the chef.
The food was phenomenal!!!! The burrata to start - the focaccia is the star of that dish, then the carrots which have the perfect tang to sweet to salt ratio, and the gnocchi was amazing. To end we had the coffee dessert, just lovely. Staff were friendly and plentiful. Our cups were always full and service was great. Very very cute spot.
The food is top notch and absolutely delicious. The lamb dish we had was unbelievable! Sooooo damn good. Im still reliving the flavour in my memory. All of the 7 dishes we shared last night were amazing. They have great cocktails too. Service is very friendly and knowledgeable. Weve been here a few times lately and its always amazing! Will be back again for sure.
We arrived to Vancouver for a conference and decided to book this restaurant for dinner. Unfortunately we did not pay attention to the small detail that advance order (5 days ahead) is needed if the 10 course tasting menu is the choice for the meal. Nevertheless we ordered from the Ala carte selection which was equally enjoyable. These were the orders : fried chicken maitake, aebleskiver, wild rice roste (best of the dishes), spot prawn, pacific squid, BC Fiddleheads, lightly smoked Micuit of Steelhead, Sungold Lamb, dungarees crab. The cocktails were equally great : semi-formal fizz, published martini No.9, The Adrian, Invierno, Felicis Excellent service, worth a return
The food is pretty good, especially the appetizers. But the main course was a bit disappointing...the beef was mediocre and the foie gras wasnt very fragrant. The most dissatisfied thing is the waiter. I feel very uncomfortable. After all, it takes three hours to eat. It is obviously different from the other two tables, so I am not happy
Been there several times. The morell mushrooms picked by the chef were a highlight of the recent visit and were wonderfully incorporated into the dishes, gnocchi, duck, even halibut. Complements to sommeliers wine selection for wine by the glass to pair with the dishes, and, of course you can go much further with the wi e from the cellar. Skillful and unitrusive service. Great place to spend time and eat
Tasting menu was sensational.
Service is great. Smiles all around. They build a bright atmosphere in the dimly lit setting. Prawns: good, like ceviche but whole. Buns: amazingly fluffy and sweet but not too sweet. The butter is a bit like cream cheese Chicken fried maitake: the batter is truly like a country fried steak, but I don t like that. It s too thick for the light, thin fans of maitake. Also, the maitake is too wet, an issue with mushrooms so a fried batter comes off so easily. Rotolo: the description for this dish was lacking, but overall the dish is very slop-like. The thickness of flavors doesn t really let anything really get through to you. It s kind of just cheesy and gooey. Abelskievers: these are pretty good. Winter squash: this was well prepared. The squash is cooked to a smooth texture and it matches with the smooth milkiness of the koji sauce.
I recently dined at Published On Main and had a very disappointing experience. Firstly, I encountered an urgent business issue that required me to sign a document on my laptop. To my surprise, the restaurant staff did not allow me to use my laptop inside and insisted that I handle my business outside on the street. This was incredibly inconvenient and unprofessional, marking one of the poorest experiences Ive ever had in a restaurant. The staff insisted that we eat quickly to free up the table for other customers, which made us feel rushed and unwelcome. We also requested to switch tables, but were told that the table we wanted was occupied, despite it remaining empty throughout our meal. Lastly, the food was not worth the money. I have dined at many Michelin one-star restaurants in North America, and I can confidently say this was the worst experience I have ever had. The quality was far below what I expected from a Michelin-starred establishment.
Babys first Michelin star. She recommends the lamb.
Do not go. It definitely does not deserve the michelin star. The food is great but service is the worst, the plates all came in disorder the waiter let empty dishes on the table. The wait time between plates was more than 20 minutes. They started taking our order of drinks after 30 min of being seated. This is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant with excellent service and does not fit this criteria.
Recently I enjoyed a meal here with my wife and we were slightly disappointed with the safety of the meal overall. The first course is an assortment of fun and innovative little amuse bouche that set the tone for modern Scandinavian cuisine. The smoked/cured steelhead was amazing, it transformed the fish into an almost candy like substance that set the bar high and got us really excited. The nettle dumplings were interesting but fell a little flat in flavor and resemblance to dumplings. Unfortunately the remainder of the dishes were just very safe. Everything was delicious and cooked very well but lacked creativity. The main was steak with morrells and delicious potatoes, which is a phenomenal combination but a super common dish these days. The service was good but a little inattentive and our main server left us half way through the meal. He didnt go home, he just said he had some stuff to do in the back, so we just got basic descriptions from the staff bringing out the remainder of meals. We mentioned it was my belated birthday when we had got there and had no response or mention of it the whole meal. Just felt very basic and Id expect a more personal touch with a Michelin star establishment. Lastly it is our fault but the staff waiting while we calculated the tip didnt mention to us we already paid gratuity when we booked online when we mentioned why we were talking so long with the bill. So we double tipped which was a little annoying.
Had a great dinner a La carte style as the set course is not available for vegetarians. All dishes were either good or excellent, wine pairing by the Sommelier was unique and added to the night. Only reason not 5 for food is at this price point expectations are very high.
Our evening ended with a server saying Im happy you enjoyed your experience to which I replied are you sure I enjoyed my experience?. Received no response, which made sense given that there was no effort to ensure continuity of service or to understand what guests enjoyed (or enjoyed less). A request to minimize cilantro was ignored in the 4th course. A customer centric restaurant could easily make this happen. To sum it up, there was no experience We had a tasting menu with no story, no interaction, and random servers dropping courses and wine pairings at our table Staff couldnt answer basic questions about ingredients and where they come from, even though they take great pride in touting local sourcing where possible. This is good food delivered at scale that is banking on reputation over customer experience.
Out of all of the Michelin Star restaurants in Vancouver, Published was unfortunately the most underwhelming. While still an overall decent experience - the service there is simply not up to par for restaurants at this caliber. Most of the dishes we had were pretty good but some (while I appreciate the eccentric approach) just did not work. Flavor profiles clashed making you wonder if theyve taste tested the dish before putting it on the menu. Servers there feel like they do not want to be there. While other similar restaurants assigns you one server for the evening - Published has a variety of expos that swarms your tables throughout the night. Some dishes were introduced, some were simply dropped on your table because they were too busy. We wanted to order sparking wine at a later time seeing how hectic the staff were so it can come with our main. Our server insisted that we can order the sparking wine with the cocktail and they would hold it for later. As we expected our cocktails and sparking wine came at the same time leaving the flute fizzing on its own until the main course came. Overall, Published is still set a good bar for the quality of food but the service needs to be revamped before its worthy of the star it currently displays.
We have been dining at Published since it first opened with a small menu (that included the best chicken sandwich I have ever had.) It is harder to get in now, but worth the wait. The cocktails and food are original and delicious. I loved my martini and my husband felt the same about his There and Back Again. We ordered 6 dishes, including dessert, which was the perfect amount. We enjoyed them all, with special callouts for the Chips and Dip, which we always get, and the Grilled Cabbage with Pork Vinaigrette, which I could happily eat every single day. The Duck was delicious and beautifully served with little dumplings as a surprise side. For dessert we had the Hay custard which was like eating a delicate cloud. The service was friendly, helpful and impeccable. We were never left waiting for long, but also not rushed. We booked our next reservation before leaving. This time we will bring friends.
Went with my hubby and my 3 year old for my birthday. Service was disappointing. We had reservations and they gave us a bar height table even though we have a 3 year old. We almost had to beg for a regular height dining table. My 3 yo asked to have fries, I asked our server, she said we are not a kids friendly restaurant with a passive aggressive attitude. Food is also disappointing. We ordered a few dishes. The chips and dip was made with 90% mayo, the deep fried mushroom was too salty and greasy, the side dish carrots were undercooked, steelhead dish also undercooked. The good dishes are the buns and the asparagus. The crab dish is good value for the money but tasted only so so. Our server asked how the dishes taste, we told them about the mushroom being too salty, she walked away with an annoyed face. Then she came later and ask about how the steelhead was (she recommended it) but we didnt like it as it too undercooked. She just walked away with her annoyed face again. We were not happy with some of the dishes but they didnt acknowledge nor do anything about them, so why ask? Kid-friendliness: Not at all.
Firstly, I acknowledge that I had to delay my reservation by 1 hour due to personal reasons, and it ended up getting cancelled due to strict restaurant policy. However, I was delaying my reservation from 5:30 to 6:30, with next table coming in at 8:15. This would still give us a dining time of 1.5 hours for the a la carte menu I ve signed up for. The restaurant just wouldn t accommodate the shorter dining time even though I confirmed that we can eat at a very fast pace. I ve been to fine dining restaurants where 2.5 hour degustation menu can be served within 1.5 hours. So I cannot understand why this place cannot serve a la carte menu with the time remain. It was a huge disappointment because I was travelling to Canada from overseas and I will only spend one night at Vancouver. I chose this restaurant after spending hours researching the website and instagram of all the top 100 Canada restaurants that are located in Vancouver. Ultimately restaurants are in the service industry, i don t understand why a relatively reasonable request cannot be accommodated. I ve been to 3 Michelin restaurants where I had to delay reservation for more than an hour and were still able to be served. I understand different restaurant have different rules and standard but you need to do better than that.
Great service
My wife and I were visiting the city and decided to check out Punlished on Main, as it was recommended by many people as well as being a top 10 restaurant on Canada s top 100. Unfortunately, the experience overall was very disappointing despite its major recognitions and I feel that having this restaurant in the top 10 shows how far Canada still has to go when it comes to the dining experience compared to many of the world s greats. We had 8:30 reservations, got seated by 8:40, and promptly ordered an appetizer and main. The app came quickly, and was a Dungeness crab dish that was plated very well. I thought the dish, though fresh, was a bit on the salty side. It could be the natural saltiness of the crab, but either way it was good. After that, we waited 1 hour for our main, a pork chop on cassoulet. The pork chop, much like the crab was plateted great! However, the gig was up before we even swallowed a bite. The texture was very tough and the consensus between my wife and I was that it was overcooked. The cassoulet was tasty and by far the best part of the dish, but shouldn t be called a cassoulet. Either way, we sent the dish back. The waiter was very apologetic and did remove it off our bill. We did leave hungry as we didn t order any more food just in case another hour was lost. I m willing to concede that it could have just been an off night, but I don t think you are allowed those for top-10 restaurants in the country. We need to do better. Not recommended.
Just incredible on every aspect!
I tried Published on Main for the first time last night and now see what the hype is all about. The service was incredible and the food was amazing. Each dish was presented so beautifully, like a piece of art. Our server also made some great recommendations. Overall it was a great experience. I understand why they got a Michelin star. Must Try: Chargrilled Octopus Roasted Scallop BC Fire Morel Gnocchi Baby Gem Salad
We enjoyed a wonderful dining experience at Published. The service and ambiance were excellent. It felt sophisticated yet maintained an element of Vancouver/West Coast casual char. The cuisine was exceptional, particularly the amb and the chicken-style mushrooms. We highly recommend sampling a variety of dishes; for our party of three, we indulged in around 7 dishes and 2 desserts, which proved to be the perfect amount of food.
The food here is really really delicious, especially the seafood is very fresh and tastes sweet. The drinks are also excellent. The only minus is that the pasta is a bit too salty to us. Food
Published on Main in Vancouver was amazing. If ever visiting, highly recommend checking them out. You can do a 10 course tasting menu (the first course is called snacks and it s 6 dishes) or can order a la carte. Highly recommend this awesome restaurant!
Amazing experience great staff aswell
Good food but not pricey.
Very impressed. Our server was perfect and made the night very special. They were able to fit us in sooner than expected and we ended up getting a great table. Cant wait to come back and try more dishes!
Very good, but overpriced when compared to other Michelin awarded restaurants in Vancouver like Barbara or Kissatanto, considering the amount of food. Thats the main reason why Im giving 4 stars. I also found a little weird to have 5 servers instead of one, but maybe is how they operate. My husband and I had the french asparagus, the BC lilly spears (best dish), the cheese agnolotti, and the chocolate dessert. I also ate the dungeness crab alone, because he is vegetarian and wasnt much hungry. The drink obsidian was delicious. Ill come back to taste the other non-veggie dishes.
Ive visited this restaurant twice due to the praise it has received and thought that my subpar experience the first time was a one-off. The only dish that my group and I have been impressed with both times and up to the quality expected of an establishment of its reputation is the Abelskiver. It has great texture, flavor, and feels unique and special. All the other dishes felt like they either shared a similar sauce for flavoring, and didnt have harmony between the ingredients. Proteins were all cooked averagely, not up to the standards one would expect from this type of restaurant. Other high end restaurants in Vancouver have experimental flavors that work well together and meats cooked to perfection. Published on Main feels like it fuses flavors that dont work well together often, and the fact that all of our meat dishes were dry and tough leave something to be desired.
Simply one of the best restaurant in Metro Vancouver. If you want to splurge on an amazing dinner, and love modern fusion fine dining, this is the place for you.
I ve been to many Michelin starred restaurants - I felt this restaurant was really outstanding. What struck me was the amount of thought and care that went into every dish and the beverage pairings. While each dish was like a work of art, it didn t detract from the taste and joy of eating! The tasting menu and beverage pairing is the way to go!
Firstly the restaurant does not have parking spaces, make it extremely difficult to find parking on the roads, the law enforcement officers issue parking tickets during dinner hours, so parking requires caution! we got a ticket because stop within 6 meters of the nearest edge of the closest sidewalk on an intersecting street! Secondly, we were there to celebrate birthday, not only did the restaurant not provide a birthday cake, but also prohibited us from bringing in our own birthday cake. We checked celebrating birthday option when making the reservation, if we had known that the restaurant does NOT allow birthday cake, we wouldnt have booked there. Finally, other than the dish presentation being beautiful, the taste of the dishes was very ordinary, some ingredients were burnt, far from other Michelin-starred restaurants, resulting a poor dinning experience! I do NOT recommend this resturant! Parking: No parking spaces, have to find a street parking spot, which is extremely difficult at dinner time
Most amazing Cosmo I have ever had (it s the white one) and most AMAZING FOOD EVER! Service was outstanding and everyone was so nice! Super relaxed atmosphere for some of the best food!
Amazing, personable service, very knowledgeable of the dishes being served. Lightly smoked micuit of salmon was my favourite dish especially with the milk buns to soak up the sauce. Great place to try dishes that showcase local and seasonal ingredients like morel and fiddleheads.
Want a fabulous dinner? This is the place. Small, elegant dishes. Super tasty. Comes with an extra big helping of pretentious description so you can feel extra special about having the good taste (and fat wallet) to eat there. The stereotype of the wait person who describes the process of hand-gathering wild mushrooms? Yeah, thats a real thing here. I didnt mind it, but only because I do it so rarely. I sort of liked the story - it added to the experience, but I wouldnt want it often. Highlight of the night (surprisingly) stinging nettles, believe it or not. Dont expect it to fill you. This is an eating experience, not comfort food. Most importantly, it was so interesting and delicious. A highlight of my eating career.
Had a vacation in Vancouver and we had an amazing dinner here! Loved the inventive menu and complex flavors. Every dish was incredible. We really enjoyed our experience there! Highly recommended!
Wanted to say thank you to Dennis for his service. He is a great guy and had such good recommendations for food. He was busy when we left so we didn t get to say thank you, so please pass this on.
Nice Service And Beautiful Taste
The decor, ambiance and menu have a beautiful aesthetic but you re immediately thrown off by the casualness of the service. Normally I wouldn t have thought that my waitress wearing cut offs and cheap plastic jewelry would have impacted my dining experience, but it cheapened the overall experience. Will definitely go back for the food. Will skip the $$$ cocktails. Will manage expectations of ambience. Will have a great time.
Ate the 10 course degustation with paired cocktails and wines, added the foie gras and caviar. Gorgeous meal, feasted with my eyes first, and then my mouth. Service was stellar, atmosphere great. I can see why a seating is difficult to come by. I would probably just go with the paired wines next time, and the foie wasn t my favourite preparation of the dish, but these are just my preferences.
Great service, food was incredible
The worst service I have ever had! After sitting at the table for 30 minutes I finally had to flag someone down to order a drink. I ordered champagne which was brought to me in a wine goblet. I asked for a flute which they said they did not have. I told them I didnt want it and they said ok and walked away - did not ask if I wanted something different. This is supposed to be a high end restaurant - as you can tell by the prices! Extremely disappointed - would not return.
The food and service was amazing. We had Michael as our server and I would go back just for that alone. He even brough5 a menu just for my allergies. The care and attention to detail is on another level. Also the gnocchi is the best thing I have ever tasted!
Service could have been more attentive at times. A few dishes fell short, like the Side Stripe Shrimp that has been on the menu since opening. However, standout items like the Hay dessert and the seasonal Brunost salad are must-tries for those seeking distinctive flavours prepared with artful flair. An enjoyable taste of Vancouver s Michelin star restaurant scene, despite some misses. Pleasant experience overall & would recommend giving Published a try!
UPDATE: It has been over two weeks since the owner requested I reach out for a further discussion about my experience. Despite my prompt response, I have yet to receive any follow-up or communication. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My recent visit to Published on Main with my girlfriend was incredibly disappointing. The food was fine, but the service left much to be desired. Upon arrival, we were advised by the front staff to leave our umbrella on the floor by the entrance as the umbrella bin was full. I had reservations about doing so but decided to trust the staff and did as instructed. Predictably, it was missing when we finished our meal. The night manager implied it was our fault for following their advice and suggested we should have used the umbrella bin, which was already full upon our arrival with no alternatives provided. I was forced to return the next day to pick up a replacement umbrella that was in poor, rusted condition and smaller than our original. The inconvenience of making an additional trip, coupled with their careless handling of customer belongings and blame-shifting, is completely unacceptable for a Michelin-starred venue. Other restaurants of the same caliber weve visited consistently uphold rigorous standards for customer service, ensuring the security and care of all personal belongings standards that were noticeably lacking during our visit to Published on Main. This experience left us extremely frustrated with their lack of responsibility and poor customer service management.
We got the tasting menu and it ended up around 400 CAD for 2 people, after service charge and tax. It was a nice experience with some interesting flavors, but the meal didn t feel cohesive or michelin 1 star worthy. However, the servers were very friendly and enthusiastic. Our first course was well done - there were a lot of variations in texture and taste, and even temperature, but some of the other courses felt repetitive (similar herb oils/herbs appearing in more than one dish) and a little confusing? I am all for fusion, but I didn t think it worked properly, unfortunately. Some of the courses were also too salty, and I had a hard time mentally digesting what I was eating. The desserts were also just okay - I would have expected more from this place. Overall, I d recommend ordering individual items as opposed to the tasting menu. The atmosphere was also not as high end as anticipated.
I have 4 year experience of restaurant so thats reason I need visit visa of Canada my contact number 00923409909645
Published never disappoints. We had reason to celebrate - and chose a 5:45p Monday reservation and it felt verrrry Saturday night! Welcoming and wonderful vibes. Michael was exceptional at helping us navigate the cocktails and set the tone for a brilliant meal. Dylan asked any favourites at the end of the meal .we literally named it all. So good. Vegetarian options: Yes. Dietary restrictions: Not built for special orders . Kid-friendliness: NOT FOR KIDS Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible.
It can t get any better. The tasting menu was exceptional. Excellent presentation, well thought combination of courses.
Great food choices and service. We will be going back there for many more meals in the future.
