For over 35 years, Joe Fortes has consistently earned and maintained its reputation as an award-winning Vancouver restaurant, specializing in premium seafood and chops.
I had a fantastic dining experience at Joe Fortes with my family. The food was absolutely wonderful, especially the fresh seafood platter. The service was also exceptional. The tipping options were set at 18% and 20% on the credit card machine, and for the level of service I received, I think these are very fair numbers. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys seafood and is looking for a memorable meal.
Had Christmas dinner here for work. Amazing service from the staff. The food was impeccable! I had the seafood linguine, which I could not complain about at all. The appetizers were also just as good but one of my favorites was the bread and lobster oil with balsamic vinegar, it was really good! I also had dessert, which was the trio, thinking it would be small portions but it was surprisingly plentiful!
It’s a restaurant with a long history, and I chose to dine there on my birthday. Since I was craving lobster and it’s a famous seafood restaurant, I had high expectations. However, this turned out to be the most disappointing experience ever—so much so that I didn’t even want to order the dessert I had been looking forward to. I left right after paying the bill. When I called to make the reservation, I specifically asked if I could bring a cake since it was my birthday. The receptionist was very friendly and said it was no problem. When we arrived, we were seated upstairs, and my partner handed the cake to the staff member who showed us to our table, asking them to store it in the fridge. Do you know what they replied? “I wish you had told me earlier that you had a cake.” I didn’t hear it myself, but I saw my partner’s face freeze in shock. The more I thought about it later, the angrier I got. Why did I even mention my birthday when making the reservation then? The staff’s attitude was also casual and indifferent. Maybe it’s because our bill wasn’t high enough? They barely refilled our water and only checked in on us occasionally while chatting more enthusiastically with other tables. The food was mediocre at best—not fresh and clearly frozen. Yet, the prices were unreasonably high for the quality. I understand that times are tough for restaurants after the pandemic, but the price simply didn’t match the value provided. I didn’t even want to eat my birthday cake at the restaurant anymore. I skipped ordering my favorite dessert, paid the bill, and left right away. I won’t be returning, nor will I recommend this place to anyone. Very disappointing.
This spot is amazing! Absolutely delicious food and drinks. Top notch service. I had the spicy chicken sandwich, and it was one of the best I've ever eaten. My wife loved the mac and cheese. Not to mention the cocktails were phenomenal. I wish I could remember the name of the drink I had (3×) Japanese whisky with pineapple flavors. So good!
One of the finest dining experiences I have ever had. The food was perfection, the service unparalleled, and the restaurant is a joy to visit. Spring Salmon: This was without doubt the greatest salmon I have ever had in my life. The sauce work was perfect with red pepper gastrique. This was one of the greatest dishes I've ever tasted. Atlantic Salmon: This dish was truly incredible an absolute joy to eat and the perfect bite every time. Lobster Oil: This was the perfect appetizer and a truly memorable experience. There is nothing better to enjoy. Joe Fortes should receive endless recognition for the quintessential Vancouver experience.
Iconic seafood restaurant in the heart of Vancouver. Finally had a chance to try it out a few months ago. There are inexpensive indoor pay parking nearby so no need to try wasting time finding street parking. As soon as we entered, I can see the wall decors, the center bar and the table setting, all makes this establishment uniquely different from other restaurants. They had many different options for oysters and the food menu is extensive. The food were very good & fresh. Our server was a joker, but unfortunately we didn't get most of his jokes lol It was a lovely evening with friends and will be back here again for sure!
Joe Fortes is my favorite seafood restaurant in Vancouver. I love the atmosphere—it’s comfortable and elegant. The service is always friendly and attentive, which makes the experience even better. The food is super fresh, and I’m really impressed with how well everything is cooked. My top picks are the oysters, crab burger, and the fish and chips. Everything is so flavorful, and you can really taste the freshness of the seafood. It’s definitely a place I’d keep going back to.
We loved every dish we ordered! The oysters did not disappoint. We had seen photos in the reviews of the lobster and shrimp rolls and thought the portions would be small, but they weren’t. The atmosphere was great, and the staff and service were excellent. I ordered the seafood bowl, and it was absolutely delicious!
Food is 4/5 but ambiance and service is 5/5 so I will round it to a 5/5. Appreciate there is a happy hour menu. Pork sliders are probably the best sliders I have eaten. Food
This is a really good example how food plus service and attention to the details gets a 5 star acknowledgment. Our waiter had a superb way of handling our table, the food striking delicious we had the trio and the Joe s fresh seafood Cioppino.
The seafood is ultra fresh. Phenomenal service
Wow. A friend and I had a girls night out tonight and we were truly blown away by Owen s service. He went above and beyond at every turn and as a bonus he was a sight for sore eyes!
Impeccable
Great lunch. Food and staff top notch.
A fantastic spot for seafood lovers with attentive service and a lovely ambiance always a great experience!
We were out celebrating my husband s another year around the sun, and trust me when I say this JF made us have an incredible time!! The food was amazing we tried the beef carpaccio , miso marinated sable, seafood linguine and were completely blown away by the scrumptious, wholesome experience !! The icing on the cake Sean our server surprised us by getting a beautiful creme brûlée celebrating my special man!! Thank you JF for an unforgettable and emotional evening!! Cheers to many more in the future!!
The food here is not good. The lobster in the bisque is chewy and tough. The steak tartare looked like a tin of bad cat food. I question if anyone there has ever eaten a steak tartare before, as this was a struggle to eat. The lobster and shrimp roll is really just shrimp, celery and mayonnaise. Service is ok. Atmosphere and vibes are great. I would only go for a drink from now on. But if you want a good meal you re better off at Cactus Club.
Showed up without a reservation on Saturday night and very friendly host seated the 2 of us and we were not disappointed. Service , meal and atmosphere excellent experience and definitely recommend you check it out !
As long-time customers, we have always enjoyed the great service at Joe Fortes. Unfortunately, this visit was a disappointment. The waitress seemed distracted and in a hurry... The bread, usually fresh was dry this time. Most disappointing of all, the birthday ritual we ve always appreciated wasn t carried out, leaving us feeling let down on a special occasion.
This place is absolutely amazing we enjoyed it so much! The menu offers something for everyone, with a great variety of dishes to suit every taste. You walk in hungry and leave completely satisfied. The service is fast and excellent, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. Highly recommended! Kid-friendliness: Yes, it is kids friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Not to the second level. The place is a 2 story building and its huge, so no issues for wheelchair
The smooth ambient in this place is awesome, chilling vibe like the super live bar, , the service is reeeaaallyyy good and food is awesome, the best clam chowder in vancity by the way.
Great oyster bar! Excellent service!
Joe Fortes is always good! I have to give them extra props for being so fast and organized for the holidays.
I heard Joe Fortes was a must go to restaurant. It did not disappoint. It is a little bit pricier but the atmosphere matched that. I was surprised (in a good way) to see how large the portions were for a more upscale restaurant. The food was amazing and there were some unique dishes you never see around in other spots. Service was excellent as well and I recommend this spot for a nice night out.
We went to Joe Fortes on Friday for lunch and it was packed. Luckily there was a table available for two and we were seated right away. I ordered the Thai chicken lunch special which came with a seafood chowder, and a crème brûlée. My friend ordered the shrimp and lobster roll. Seafood chowder - good portion, good amount of seafood, not too creamy Thai chicken - really flavourful chicken, came with rice and veggies Crème brûlée - too creamy and it felt like it was a bit burnt on top Shrimp and lobster roll - cold and not very nice sauce wise. Bread was nice and soft. Washroom was on the second floor which isn t accessible for wheelchair users and the area we were sitting also required ascending stairs. Would not recommend for people with disabilities as aisles between tables were also narrow. Good and attentive. For a seafood restaurant, I liked the Thai chicken the best which was surprising.
Every time we have eaten at Joe Fortes, it has been excellent. The menu have a wide variety of items and there is a daily fresh sheet as well. We have never been disappointed yet. For brunch or for dinner, highly recommended. Our favorite restaurant here in downtown Vancouver.
Service was good, food was good, unfortunately we saw multiple mice running around us. Not good, they have to clean this up and should be reported to health. They blamed city for not being able to use poison.
Good food but pricey
Great ambience, service is always good, food is always prepared perfectly. Keep coming back 2-3 times every year.
Heyyyy Joe, where you goin with that lobster in your hand ( ´) Food
First time, wont be last time.
Every food was nice and live piano music was fantastic. The server was so kind and she gave me a mini cake for celebration. Thanks to her. Even though the wrong side salad was served, cause i ordered side salad as caesar. But balsamic salad was also great I love this restaurant
We had waited a long time to dine here. We were celebrating our daughter s birthday and she had chosen this restaurant. We had heard great reviews of the place. Our server Brooklyn was absolutely amazing. She was professional, knowledgeable and very personable. The ambience was amazing The food however was a big letdown. The beef tartar had not beef taste and was mixed with some kind of a mayo. The calamari was more doughy and not crispy. The cioppino broth was tomato based and tasted like a tomato seafood soup. It was not very palatable The Seafood pasta was bland and tasted only of plain whipping cream. The Sable fish was very good but the kale and mushroom were in big chunks not chopped up. The biggest let down was the chocolate cake. It looked beautiful but tasted like a dry cake with whipped buttercream icing. We expected a chocolate ganache at the least. The oysters and mussels were great. The fried oysters were exquisite We had great expectations but our experience with the food was a big letdown.
Nice environment. Very interesting menu. Both meat and fish.
The service was excellent. The Sable fish was one of the best fish dishes I ve ever had. Oh and I had my first bottle of Okanagan wine. Rate it a 91. Highly recommend.
BEST FISH AND CHIPS I ve ever had. Amazing food for the price. Great service. Nothing to complain about. Fresh ingredients and the waiters are very friendly.
Great overall experience! Fresh seafood done near perfectly. Fried dishes could use some refinement
If you ever get a chance to go, request to be sat in Brett s section. 10/10 for energy, personality, and overall quality. Brett will see to your every need, he will match your vibe, he will escalate your dining experience to the next level. Ask for Brett, you won t regret it.
Best service, best brunch, best happy hour, best live piano music, and best complimentary birthday surprise. They served me the best crème brûle Ive ever tasted on a beautiful plate with a birthday message and a candle for birthday wishes. Absolutely love this place.
Food was disappointing, especially given the price. We had the lobster bisque meh. Then we tried the oysters Rockefeller. The oysters were tough and chewy around the edges. The taste was, again, meh. Both of these items could have and should have been so much better. It felt like the kitchen just mailed it in.
Seafood was incredible!! The service and atmosphere is absolutely amazing!!
Best fried oyster I have ever tried. Also regular oysters were amazing. Fresh and tasty
Truly a wonderful evening celebrating my birthday with family the food the service the ambiance truly divine
Went for happy hour with the wife. Quick service and tasty dishes.
Came here for happy hour. Seafood was fresh and delicious, prices for downtown was reasonable. Can t wait to come back in the summer for the patio #contestentry
As usual, all the items we ordered was amazing, lobster rolls, calamari, oysters, crab cakes. The service was fantastic! Food
Amazing as always. Lovely cocktails, great seasonal options, and a relaxed vibe to go with.
First I d like to premise this by saying we ve been going to Joes for years, the service and atmosphere is always great. We went for happy hour today and I ordered the shrimp cocktail from the happy hour menu. What I received was two medium sized shrimp on a side plate. When we were paying the bill I mentioned to our waiter that it s hard to believe that was a shrimp cocktail. He challenged me by asking what I considered a shrimp cocktail, I replied not two shrimp on a small plate. He said you can get four shrimp for twice as much on the main menu. Good happy hour deal? It frustrated me enough to write this. I ll be taking a break from this place for a while.
This is my favorite restaurant by far. They always have fresh oysters and seafood. Their steaks are cooked to perfection, and the staff are very attentive. Also, they have a live piano player stationed on the large staircase to amplify the sound of music to the whole restaurant.
The waitress was incredibly friendly. Noticing that we were a family wanting to share, she ensured all our dishes were served at the same time, making our dinner feel like a grand feast.
The food is very good and the staff works very hard
Best oysters and best atmosphere.
Just had a juice
Had a great time. Lovely service and delicious oysters. Will be back for sure!
Really good, food was fantastic, I had the seafood cioppino and it was so good, highly recommend coming here
What atmosphere. Elegant in middle of all on burrard St. Our 2nd time there. Pricey. Dont eat on top level. Looses its charm up there
Excellent experience all the way around! Service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. Oysters, Lobster bisque soup and halibut cheeks-divine!
Everything was sooo good! We were there 7 pax and ordered almost 50 oysters because it was that good! Seafood platter was great too. Service is amazing.
Nice place with great food but really LOUD. We couldn t carry on a conversation. But if I ever come back to Vancouver, I would definitely eat here again!
We were told by several people to try Joe Fortes. This is a new seafood house for us, compared to others in the area and it was disappointing. We started off with an appetizer oyster Rockefeller. It was alright, but likely wouldn t try it again or suggest trying it. The bread and the lobster oil was soft and delicious. The first entree was the special which was a trio of shrimp, tuna, and salmon. The dish was lacking seasoning. It didn t taste like much, but it was cooked perfectly. It wasn t worth the amount charged. Next was a salmon entree. It was again cooked perfectly but it didn t have much of a glaze, or seasoning. It was supposed to have lemon butter on it, but there wasn t much. The veggies were little pieces of carrot and some broccolini. Purée was well seasoned and soft. Then there was the filet mignon. This steak was tender. It was cooked properly. But one small issue was when my food came it was cold and sat. The whole plate appeared as though it had sat. When the waitress returned I had asked for them to put my 70.00 steak in the microwave as it was cold. They did reheat it, but as you can imagine it came back dry. Everyone else was done their meal, and watched me eat mine. I was not asked if I wanted it re made. As we were having a birthday celebration it would have been nice to be able to have all eaten a meal together. Overall, I think I would agree with several others. I don t know if the value of the food is there. As we booked for a birthday celebration it would have been great for a senior staff or manager to come and make the experience memorable or at least right. On a positive note, overall our waitress was attentive and very kind but could have checked in on the food. Was it worth 300 - no. OH! Try the crème brûlée. That was enjoyable.
High end restaurant with good options. Went for their brunch oyster special which was great!
Wow, great place to eat. The steak was delicious and the service was amazing. You have to try the Crème brûlée, it really is world class.
Had lunch here with some workmates. Chicken and Waffles. Amazing!! The atmosphere was nice for a lunch rush. The service was excellent, but the food was better than I could have imagined. Prices were reasonable for a nice place like this. There is plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs. The lunch portions were huge. Great for leftovers. Make a reservation, though. Come on, treat yourself to some good seafood.
This is an amazing place ! The waiter, Heidi, was over the top! Carrying really well that you have a good expirience! Come a have a great expirience
I came here for Sunday brunch. The staff were fantastic and the food excellent. Recommend coming here with your favourite people and have a good time.
Great seafood, but stay away from the burger as they have to cook it well done. Fries are 2 stars... Would come back for oysters!
The food is amazing. We enjoyed the fish and chips. The patio is even better. Everytime we eat here I make sure we are on the patio. #contestentry
Our meal was amazing. We had the beet salad, mushroom and tomato soup, a dozen fresh oysters, and jumbo grilled prawns. Emma was an amazing server and went far and above to make my birthday brunch a wonderful experience. They brought out a creme brulee that had a Happy Birthday chocolate on the plate with a candle. An absolutely amazing dining experience. My wife and I will most definitely be back the next time we visit the area. Thank you Parking: Lucked out and got a spot right down the block on a Sunday.
Classic Vancouver staple
The food was delicious, the service was extremely prompt and on point. Our server was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations. We loved the live piano and the ambience of the whole place.10/10 would come back again.
I spent a wonderful birthday here with my family. The atmosphere was great, the service was great, and my family loved it. Thank you for leaving us with wonderful memories.
We had a delicious meal here today. The service was great, everyone was polite and helpful.
Awesome happy hour
Great experience this evening. The food was great, the service is phenomenal and like the vibe.
Go for the Fresh Oysters + Joe s Mussels but definitely not for the steak and scallops.
I strongly recommend that you try it!!
All top. We love this restaurant.
Great food and excellent service! Always have a lovely evening here, and its a wonderful spot for those looking for a good meal in Downtown Vancouver. #ContestEntry
I got the cioppino that was a bit saltier than I would like. Service was great- the lobster oil that accompanied the balsamic vinegar and complimentary bread was excellent. Quite pricey overall.
Been here many times, food is always fresh. The service was excellent Must-visit restaurants in Vancouver
Came here for Happy Hour! Oysters were good but overall food and drinks were on the pricier side. The ambience and atmosphere was amazing though! #ContestEntry
The seafood was so tasty, delicious and fresh. The staff were attentive without being overpowering or in your face. The atmosphere was busy and fabulous, a testament to the consistency in their food and service. Everyone needs to experience this.
The atmosphere here is great. It is downtown and located in a vibrant and active part of the city. The ingredients they use are high quality and it comes through in their dishes. These are the only positives. We came here with a group for a nice dinner to celebrate with a group of 18. We knew this would make dinner take longer than normal, however, we did not expect it to take the 3 hours it ended up taking. Upon being seated, or server was nowhere near us. 20 minutes later our drink orders were taken. After 30 minutes of waiting, and following up with other servers of the restaurant, drinks started to come out. Our whole table had their drinks at the one hour mark. Our food orders were taken, and it seemed things would be better. This was a mistake. Meal orders were wrong, and the kitchen could not prepare the steaks to order. A medium rare would come out as well done, and medium came out as rare. The kitchen could not prepare the proper dishes. We would have brought this up to our server, but we did not see her for the next hour. By this time most of us decided to put up with the poor quality meals and move on. We then ordered desserts and new drinks. The desserts came, again after 30 minutes of waiting, and drinks never arrived. At the 2.5 hour mark we told the server we wanted our bills. Again, another 30 minutes passed. We had to ask other servers what was going on, and some of our table thought the bill had already been paid. 15 minutes after these thoughts our server arrived with individual bills, with errors on them, and she rushed us through the bill payment. An automatic 20% gratuity was added due to the party size. To prevent from having to stick around for another 30-45 minutes we all just paid our bills and got out of there. The experience here was terrible. The food was not properly prepared, service was worse than a McDonalds, and there was no one available to assist. Avoid this restaurant at all costs if you want a meal that is worth while and/or worth the cost. There are many other options around that are cheaper and have much better service.
We saw not just 1 mouse, but a family of mice going back and forth in the restaurant, under the table and chairs. We told the staff, and they say/act like its very normal. It seems they see the mice very often. When the Uber driver asked us how was dinner, and we told him about the mice, he was extremely surprised that they didnt even offer that the dinner was not charged. We paid full price to see a family of mice running back and forth for half an hour under the table and chairs. Unbelievable!
At Happy Hour, platter is $46, beer is $6, affordable and delicious.
Not cheap...but there is certainly value in the meal. When you are ready to treat yourself or celebrate something - this is a place to head. I always trust a place where their are career waitstaff. They add incredible depth to the dining experience. Find a reason to spend some time here - you will not be disappointed.
Everything about it was gorgeous and the food was fantastic and their homemade lobster oil was to die for. Definitely worth the price.
Our go to for many, many years. Bring out of town friends Have the portions always been Soo big? Ive forgotten. Would prefer a booth as to 2 person table . Listening to people beside ramping themselves up... Great wine choices too. Be back soon. Wheelchair accessibility: Had broken foot difficult to get upstairs to washroom, they had washroom on main level! Thankyou to our server.
I like delicious seafood food.
If you want to pay 50 plus dollars for a sub par entree at a place that has seating that looks like it hasn t changed in fifty years then this is totally the place to go. One of the worst dinner menu / restaurant I have been in. Even the fresh bread brought to us tasted a week old. Overpriced. I guess some people come for 21 dollar valet parking to feel fancy - maybe if u spend over 200 u can get something decent to eat? Ur looking at half the quality for twice the price here. That is the best way to put it. The happy hour is decent but I not recommend the dinner - this was one of the worst dine in experiences I ve ever had if not the worst. I usually can t decide on only one thing at a restaurant so order multiple things and plan my next visit - but here I struggled to choose one thing because it s all so overpriced and unappealing.
I often admire not only service at my table but others around me. Says a lot.
One of bests in Vancouver. Delicious food and atmosphere. Great for celebrating anniversaries and special occasions. I particularly love their bread and lobster oil/balsamic mix. The seafood tower is a fantastic sharable choice. The food portions are on the larger end and worth every penny. Food
Very disappointed. I used to love this place
Another good experience at Joe Fortes. Good happy hour experience and good oysters! The jumbo prawns were lowkey good with seafood cocktail sauce! Will come back again for the rooftop experience
Beautiful place , amazing food! Wonderful service and elegant guests ! Don t miss this place!
Dinner at Joe Fortes was a HUGE disappointment. Food was cold, and took an hour to arrive at our table. The place was so noisy we had to basically shout to hear each other. The music was boring. Terrible atmosphere. We will never go there again.
Food
Very tasty dinner with fish and oysters
The food is exquisite and delicious. The oysters at happyhour are delicious for more than 2 yuan.
Joe Fortes is the kind of restaurant you marry. Suuure maybe you dabble with some fusion or Michelin, but at the end of the day, Joe Fortes always delivers, always tastes perfect, always has the best service - its husband material.
The food was delicious - seafood and meat. Service was pro-active and friendly. We will definitely come back.
Joe Fortes is a must-visit in Vancouver! The seafood is fresh and perfectly cooked highlights were the oysters and the miso-glazed sablefish. The service was outstanding, and the rooftop patio added a great touch to the experience. Highly recommend for anyone who loves great seafood and a lively atmosphere!
It took me about 25 years to revisit this place due to a very disappointing experience. I really wish I had never come back. Came back with a friend from Vienna who really wanted to experience the most famous oyster bar in town during happy hour. Big mistake. Food was greasy, thickly battered and overpriced for the quality. We were told we were granted extra 15 minutes right after we placed our third round of food and drink while the restaurant was about 50% full. They should have either cancelled our order or allowed more time. In the end, we were forced to rush to finish up. We had about 105 minutes to dine for a table of 4 while the restaurant was about half empty. Our server was the only semi bright spot for the whole experience. We left hungry and had to head over to the Earls down the street, where we had way better quality food and service without attitude. NEVER AGAIN. I am sure the restaurant will do well without me going back.....
My buddy Leo said I had to try the chicken and waffles and he was absolutely right. They are absolutely delicious and it will be impossible for me to order anything else for lunch at Joe s now. They are that good!!!
Joe Fortes Seafood and Chops is a very hip, almosticonic place to eat. The restaurant is named after Joe Fortes, sailor. When Joe arrived in Vancouver , he realized there were hundreds of children who did not know how to swim. He taught them to swim. The interior is multi-leveled with lots of brass, wood and great lighting. On the second level, overlooking the diners and filling the restaurant with fabulous piano riffs, is one of Canadians popular groups from the 60s/70s, Prism. Wonderful photos and paintings of great moments in Vancouver are everywhere. Food is outstanding. It is higher-end dining so do expect to pay more. Great experience!
The atmosphere, food and attention are exceptional. A place worth visiting and enjoying. The price is worth 100%. The atmosphere, food and service are exceptional. A place worth visiting and enjoying. 100% worth the price.
Old lady working as a server provided the worst service ever. Rude the entire time, never checked on us, smacked food and card machine on the table. Didnt even say thank you or bye to us when we were leaving. Been coming here for years but I wont be returning again after this horrible experience. Service
Food is amazing !!! Service is top notch!!!
Pavlova is a must.
Really posh. Very professional. Super hospitable.
Amazing food and top tier service!
If hygiene is important to you, do not go to this place. There was a rat roaming in the dining hall. The overall vibe of the restaurant felt quite fancy with proper waiters in white etc. but when i pointed the rat to one of the waitresses, she just said this is Vancouver and the restaurant can t do anything about rat infestation. It was quite ridiculous, she literally said let s get you guys out of here, as she took the bill from us. It was our first night in Vancouver and it turned out to be the biggest disappointment from the most well known restaurant in town. The food was okay but I am sure you can get something similar elsewhere. Not worth spending 100 per person.
Very unique atmosphere with unbelievable food and service. Some of the best calamari I ve ever had!
Food was good, liked my stablefish! But filet was ok Brooklyn was so nice and patient, she explained everything and made my day!
No fault, everything excellent, please go to this restaurant. A bit on expensive side, but worth it.
First of all Joe Fortes is one of my fave restaurants. The food, restaurant, entertainment and service is usually outstanding. We were there last night and everything was exceptional except that we had a very arrogant server (Matt) who ruined our experience.
Great for gluten and dairy free with large group!
Lobster Benny was amazing!
The seafood platter was amazing and so was the steelhead Trout. I was amazed by the service when Tim the server gave us a birthday cake for my brother. Truly heartwarming. Will definitely visit again.
Came in on my birthday oct 11 and it was absolutely amazing!! I live in chilliwack and wanted to make a point to come to joe fortes as it s my favourite treat. I forget our server s name (im so sorry), but he was so funny! Everyone made it a point to wish me a happy birthday, i felt so special. Unfortunately due to heavy traffic from home and reservations elsewhere our visit was cut much shorter than I had hoped for, but everyone (especially our amazing server) made it a 10/10 experience plus the food never fails!
Thanksgiving dinner.
Best seafood restaurant in town. Oyster so fresh and delicious. Very good atmosphere unforgettable.
Went for happy hour + dinner on Friday. Very busy place, small tables and too closed to others. All seafood related was fresh and tasty. Non seafood was just ok.
The food is delicious and there is live piano music. But there are so many people and it s very noisy.
8 here for the very first time I will be coming back we celebrated our anniversary there and they gave us a free dessert
Come here all the time for their happy hour - seafood tower, oysters, prawn tempura, calamari all exceptional. And they have a good alcohol and cocktail on their HH menu too.
The staff is very friendly. The food is okay for me; I liked the Caesar salad, but I forgot to take a photo. The steak is quite expensive, over $70, and in my opinion, it isnt that great. The interior design is beautiful and classic.
Great place to dine!
During my recent visit to Joe Fortes Seafood and Chophouse in Vancouver, I was treated to a dining experience that perfectly balanced flavor, ambiance, and service. The restaurant, housed in a beautiful vintage building, exudes a timeless charm that immediately sets the stage for a memorable meal. I ordered the trout fillet, served on a bed of puréed mango citrus dressing with fresh greens. The dish was a perfect blend of vibrant and refreshing flavors, with the tangy citrus and sweet mango elevating the delicate trout. The greens added a light, crisp contrast, making each bite feel balanced and satisfying. The service was attentive and professional, and the staffs wine recommendations enhanced the experience even further. Whether youre there for a special occasion or a casual meal, Joe Fortes delivers an unforgettable culinary experience. I highly recommend it!
Perfect corner to savor Vancouver food, special mention to Rockefeller oysters
A wonderful seafood place I always make a point to visit when I m in Vancouver. The lobster oil, their key lime pie, the char I usually have and their drink selections are top notch. I ve recommended this place to so many people I just realized I ve never even left a review. They don t really need it though, since I think everyone knows what a gem they are.
A seriously buzzing place full of atmosphere with an old school vibe. We had a fantastic evening of eating and drinking. Our server Aly was amazing. Loads of fun and really knowledgeable about the wine and food. You have to try the Brussel sprouts with crispy pancetta, they were delicious! A great evening!!
the food was delightful, and the staff was attentive! I went for happy hour and highly recommend!
Excellent! Sitting at the bar is the best choice. Good service, great atmosphere, great taste, everything is great! Food
The only old style restaurant I like. Clean and good vibe. Always fresh and Great sea food.
Worth going just for the atmosphere alone, although food and service was good too. We went on a Friday evening, so it was hard to hear the pianist playing overhead. Recommend reservations well in advance.
Solid Dietary restrictions: They kindly asked after allergies. I did wonder how they would respond to a shellfish allergy Food : 4/5 |
Always a really awesome time, staff are great, food is the best and love the oyster bar
Traditional restaurant, very well decorated, good food and excellent service.
I have to say the brunch I had today was NOT good. Unfortunately Joe Fortes has Jump the Shark for me
Great lunch on the rooftop patio
Even though it was lunch, I showed them a photo and they served me a lobster platter. The shrimp cream suba was also extremely delicious. The lobster said, ``I dont know how, and the waitress cracked open the shell and took out all the contents. They showed us the restrooms, took photos with us, and were extremely hospitable. Lobster and scallops are especially delicious!
Spencer was great, service was fast and excellent. We ll be back.
Classy place. A great atmosphere live piano belting out the tunes. The food was top notch. The server Boyd was great, answered drink and food questions his recommendations where bang on.
Great service. Food was tasty, but the steak was served at almost room temperature. Because of that, the butter topping solidified and was a bit off-putting.
Was nice really great waiter but the quality of steak in the rib eye steak wasnt the best for the amount it was and was overcooked but everyone else really enjoyed there good and the wine was amazing
Brian, our waiter made our first visit a magical experience. He was so attentive and added all the nice extra touches to make it a great experience. The food was amazing (shoutout for the best calamari I ve had) and the lobster was melt in your mouth. Top notch! Well done!
For the appetizer, we tried the beef tartare ($28). The color looked off, but it tasted quite good. For the entree, I got the cioppino ($45), and my bf got the sablefish ($56). The cioppino came with a long piece of garlic bread, and had a good amount of seafood like fish, shrimp, and mussels. It also came with two pieces of scallops! The seafood was mostly tender (some of the fish pieces were drier), and the cioppino was flavorful. At the end of the meal, I found a hair on my food; otherwise, I enjoyed the meal. I tried my bfs sablefish, and it was so tender. On the pricey side, but it is a nice restaurant with good quality seafood
Food were amazing, can t wait to try the rest of the menu
We had the fried oysters, the halibut and the cod and everything was amazing. Incredible serving and atmosphere. 100% recommended!
I just had a fantastic dining experience at [Restaurant Name]! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, setting the perfect mood for a great meal. I tried the [specific dish or dishes], and they were absolutely delicious flavorful, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. The attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients really stood out. I also enjoyed [any drinks or desserts], which were delightful. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience, and I cant wait to return. Highly recommend!
A little noisy
Good service. Seafood is very fresh and tasty. Cocktails a little pricy but tastes good as well. Absolutely love the scallops.
The lobster roll was very mid, there are flies everywhere, the Asian looking short waiter was smirky and rude af, I recommend avoiding this place and get some real seafood experience elsewhere
Had Melissa K as a server and she was amazing. Lots of banter, extremely kind, and very knowledgeable. She made us feel incredibly welcome. The food was amazing. Served extremely hot and fresh. Taking away a star due to the flies in the restaurant.
Chicken and waffles!!! Mussels and halibut cheeks were also first class as was the soup. Great service. Will definitely be coming back
Great atmosphere and interiors. Their truffle parmesan fries in particular are delicious and generously portioned. Lovely service at the bar as well. Definitely recommend!
Top marks all round for this fabulous place. Stylish design with a great atmosphere combines with a superb menu backed up by outstanding service. I cant over state how attentive and impressive the service was. The crab cake was excellent as were the wider dishes and I will return. Find yourself in Vancouver then make a visit a priority.
Great food and service. Restaurant itself needs to be renovated. Walls are dirty, carpets are old, dirty and torn. The ceiling and ceiling lights are dirty. Owners should clean it or better renovate.
Always AWESOME!!!
This place has mice. We paid our bill and got out of there after we saw them running around in the dining area. Based on the reviews with other people claiming mice, the staff knows about it and doesnt care. We went here on a recommendation from a friend. We read the mouse/mice reviews after. We will never go back.
While the food was good and the service was friendly, the restaurant s condition left a lot to be desired. The ceiling was dirty, glass was dirty, the walls were damaged, and the chairs and carpets were ripped. The overall disrepair made me question the cleanliness of the kitchen. It s hard to enjoy a meal when you re wondering if the food is prepared in a space as neglected as the dining area. Hopefully they plan to renovate asap.
Service was excellent and the food and vibe was very good too. Would not hesitate to return. The only thing that wasnt geat was the chowder.
The patio is nice and the location is okay. On one way street. Makes good drinks and the food is usually good, just depends on what you like. Worth checking out
Fantastic evening, great atmosphere with live piano music. A little loud though. Came Monday night and it was packed. Had the best mussels I ve ever had. Highly recommended Food
Had 2 dishes Oysters Rockefeller: C - Bulk oysters, bulk sauce, no Pernod. Ate 2 of 4. Sidecar (beverage); B - harsh - Ive zillions of them. Imp: Nice enough place, but unfortunately cant recommend. Food : 3/5 |
One of the best spots in Vancouver. Hit the rooftop patio for happy hour during the summer.
The vibe, the service, the food, all are the Just fit . We enjoyed the time with family and friends. Definitely recommend this restaurant to your friends .
The seafood is really fresh and the cocktails are delicious. If you come to Vancouver, you must make a reservation first because I heard it is difficult to make a reservation at this restaurant.
Food, service and ambience was outstanding. Varied menu, fresh and very well prepared fish and lobster. Starters and desserts round off the visit. The service is top, very attentive, friendly and has made the meal a great experience on several visits. Prices are more than fair for the quality and service. Vegetarian options: Rather unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans as the focus is on fish and steak. Dietary restrictions: Allergies are proactively taken into account.
Take it or leave it? Leave it. Not what I expected for the hype it was given. Husband s steak left much to be desired. Server made me feel unwelcome after I was labeled vegan (not actually, but I do prefer a plant based meal) by someone at our table. And I was paying the bill, feh!
3 stars. Very unique and interesting experience in downtown Vancouver. you can certainly tell why its a treasured institution. Food is great, and ambiance is fun. Price points are reasonable and food quality is quite good as well. Fun experience. It was too hot inside though, please crank up AC. Downside was an inappropriate waiter. Our waiter made numerous comments about how I paid the bill and my husband did not. Very sexist and condescending. Its 2024, I can pay the bill LOL.
The food quality has definitely declined. Steak came out overcooked and dry, seafood soup was over salted and lacked aroma. The server was great and attentive. The meal was just not worth what youve paid for. Atmosphere wise, if youre at one of the tables in the middle, in which we were, its crowded and servers are constantly having to squeeze behind you.
Generous portions of sensitively cooked seafood
Halibut might have been previously frozen. Great service.
Full of quest and I am fortunate to have seat by manager without reservations. All seats are booked.
Great sense of history with great food!!
Amazing server -and amazing food. One of my favs in Vancouver for any occasion. Food
Best seafood in town! Also, great service! A standard we should all look up to!
Dinner at Joe s always delivers, but don t forget about the brunch too. It s often overlooked by locals but it s so good. It s hard to find the same consistently warm service and quality of food anywhere else. There is a reason why this place is an institution. Try the salmon cakes for brunch
Really appreciate the personal touch when we were handed a menu with happy anniversary written on it Oysters were great. Both steaks tasted fantastic! Love the energetic & classic vibe of the restaurant! Our waitress was attentive & gave everything we wanted for our dinner date. Would definitely come back here, hopefully around holidays! Thanks again Joe Fortes!
Steak was very tough, hard to cut with a serrated steak knife, impossible to chew . It was replaced with a similar tough steak. A terrible dining experience. Food
