2702 Main St, Vancouver, BC V5T 3E8, Canada
Restaurant serving regional Canadian share plates & seasonally rotating wines in a hip, cozy space.
Went there for my birthday, and it was a great time. The menu is creative, focusing on radicchio. My absolute favorite dish was the short rib, super flavorful and cooked to perfection.
Burdock & Co delivers an exceptional dining experience that truly celebrates the artistry of local, seasonal ingredients. We recently had a curated dinner here, and I can confidently say that every dish was a masterpiece—thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and packed with rich, complex flavors. The tasting menu ($150 per person) felt like a journey through the essence of Pacific Northwest cuisine. From the delicate starters to the imaginative main courses, each bite showcased the restaurant’s commitment to sustainable sourcing and culinary innovation. The flavors were so memorable that we ended up buying the Burdock & Co cookbook to try and recreate some of the dishes at home. If you’re someone who appreciates meticulous attention to detail and bold, fresh flavors, Burdock & Co is not to be missed. This meal was an experience worth savoring, and we’ll definitely be back for more.
Great experience. First time to Burdock & Co and just have to say that the service is top notch. Everyone was so kind and knowledgeable and passionate about the food. We went for a tasting menu featuring raddichio. First time trying it and was surprised by the variety of flavour you can get out of a vegetable. There were 6 courses + macarons and we were full by the end of it. We also did get the sourdough bread but we could've not ordered it and still be full. Overall the food and flavours were exquisite, service was amazing and the ambiance was perfect for a special occasion.
The restaurant we visited featured an exceptionally knowledgeable host and sommelier who truly elevated our dining experience. Opting for the wine pairing, we were treated to an array of wines, each accompanied by a fascinating story that enriched our understanding and enjoyment. Their deep expertise and passion for wine shone through in every tale, transforming the meal into a delightful journey through vineyards and vintages. As always, the food was superb, but this time, each dish seemed even more exquisite when paired with the carefully selected wines
3 stars: 1. culinary creativity, 2. dietary accommodations, 3. staff friendliness. 2 stars off: 1. pretentiousness, 2. atmosphere (poor lighting and staff [lack of] uniform). Came here for a wedding anniversary. Yes, it is a Michelin star restaurant; yes, the culinary creations are innovative and unique; yes, it is therefore prestigious and impressive. Alas, it is not for me. For our visit, the featured ingredient was radicchio. Every dish (creations!) was romanced with a story of origins and significance (even the gratuitous bread). While we appreciated the staff's knowledge and the novelty of creative presentations, a salad is still just a salad. Don't be alarmed by the portion sizes: you may still be full by the end of the tasting menu (well, depends on your stomach size). To celebrate our special occasion, we were give two slices of apples that were from a "special orchard", cultivated through a "special agricultural process", from a "special region" of the province. Since the staff there wore plain clothing like the patrons, I was a little worried that I would accidentally flag down a guest for services. Call me old-fashioned! The lighting is (very) dim for coziness, so if you have vision issues, be prepared to bring your own flashlight to view the menu (and bill!). All in all, it was a fun experience. If you like a unique dining experience that awakes (and shocks) all your senses, and you are there to impress, it might be worth a try. Be sure to increase your credit limit on your card first though!
The interior was hip but had a cold vibe when you entered. It was awkward going to the washroom, 2 kitchen staff were chatting right in the middle of the pathway and there’s no acknowledgment that I’m even there. It’s a small restaurant but it wasn’t full around 7:30pm when our reservation ended (Sunday evening). The patio was closed too. We had 3 different servers. Each were kind enough but the interactions all felt a bit superficial/show-like. Food was beautifully presented. We added 2 appetizers with the set menu as well as the wine pairings. My favourite dish was the lamb and my partner loved the spotted shrimp. The corn risotto was hyped by the servers but personally it was my least favourite dish. The dessert was a lovely sour cherry meringue. We enjoyed that as well. The pricing was standard for a Michelin. Was it worth it? Yeah. But can you find other cute and cozy restaurants with delicious food sourced responsibly? Yes. Overall, it was okay.
Wow! What an incredible experience! Every bite was so meticulously created. Flavors were all spot on and delicate, but powerful. Staff was friendly and kind. None of the signature drinks stood out for me so our thoughtful server, Jordan, suggested something they previously offered on their menu and it was exactly what I was hoping for! They happily accommodated a food allergy. Kudos to Chef and team!
The dishes are beautifully presented, however, they aren’t really for me. The scallops were exceptional but I didn’t like the very overpowering vinegary sauce. The highlight was the cod, so tender and juicy. The rest of the dishes and the cocktails to me are so far my least favourite amongst other Michelin star restaurants in Vancouver. It’s worth a try to see if you like it but I don’t think I will return.
Really good food and very innovative dishes. Each course was a hit. Vegetarian options: Accommodating for vegetarians. Food : 5/5 |
Such a fantastic evening. Food was superb, staff were awesome. The bar seats closest to the kitchen make for an even better experience. Dietary restrictions: Able to accommodate gluten free
Excellent!
We loved our experience at Burdock & Co!
We were seated at the bar which I loved. There is something about an open kitchen and watching people work who are clearly so passionate about what they do. We had the radicchio menu and it was incredible! We started with the scallops, too and added in the wagyu beef alone with the wine pairing and each course just got better and better. The wine pairings were perfect. The staff was kind and knowledgeable and really made the whole night perfect. I will certainly go back as well as check out Chef Andrea s other places. Thank you for the best food experience I ve had in years.
I ve dined at enough Michelin starred restaurants throughout Europe, Asia, the USA and our very own Alo and Enigma Yorkville in Toronto to know that burdock and co is the least deserving of a star. We had the tasting menu with premium wine pairing and ordered all of the sides. There was nothing premium about the wine- they were all very young wines. All of the food was below average to very bad. Save your money and eat anywhere else.
Saddened to share that this place was a real disappointment. We had booked in advance when the price of the tasting menu was $90 per person and once there we were told it was $125. Okay, would ve been worth it if the food hadn t been so uninspiring. One course is literally some bread. Like sourdough and a few other types- no matter how much they were trying to upsell us how special this bread is, it s bread! and not even the best bread we ve had. One course was a tiny salad. Again, very uninspiring and mediocre. We added the fried chicken which was okay but the portion was meant for a toddler. A real slap in the face for $22 extra. The crab was fine but the wagyu was tough and lacked flavour- I have my doubts it was even Wagyu. Sadly, I cannot say I liked any of the food enough to ever come back. I struggle to see how they even obtained their Michelin star. I truly do. After dining at places like St. Laurence, Published & Annalena. This was the most expensive of them all and left still hungry and disappointed. Our server was very intense and would interrupt us every five minutes and continue to ramble on. It was exhausting! Also, they only have natural wines which is not normally my preference. The saviour of the night was the marigold gimlet which was very good. Everything else was boring, lacked quality and vision and unfortunately for us terribly overpriced.
Not for the faint of wallet but memorable cuisine.
Fantastic tasting menu and restaurant. Each month is different and a surprise so go with it. Ours was raddicio and while not the most exciting, each dish was technical and well presented, flavours were spot on, and good creativity. We shared a premium wine pairing and discovered some fantastic wines, as we would expect to. Definitely will come back again for another seasonal menu!
A cozy restaurant with good ambiance. Enjoyed the innovative food and excellent service. A good Michelin restaurant
The food was decent and the service was good. But the price is ridiculous. I would not go back.
Great food experience with excellent service. Staff patiently answered all of my questions, and promptly addressed what we needed. Love this cute little restaurant! And we love their farm to table concept.
Beautiful room, fantastic service & delicious food.
Amazing and delightful, great Service the menu with maridaje was awesome, well deserved Michelin Star
Highly recommended!! We contacted the restaurant in advance to ask if they could accommodate 2 vegans for a tasting menu. They were happy to have us and massively exceeded our expectations. The food, wine pairing, service, atmosphere and whole experience was incredible. All the staff were so friendly, knowledgeable and passionate. Very refreshing and so much fun. We ll definitely be back. Thanks Burdock & Co team.
For the price, I was expecting 5 stars across the board. Half the dishes were exceptional - the plating and care were exquisite. Others, the flavors were not balanced, and in some cases it felt strange to be paying such a high price for dishes such as a vinegary corn dish with crabapples. I get they are trying to highlight more sustainable local items, but again, is this really the appropriate venue to do so at such a high price point? The restaurant itself is cute and small, but the bench seating is remarkably uncomfortable. Similarly, the Air Conditioning was lackluster, and it was very warm throughout the meal. The service staff were terrific and attentive. The wine pairings were questionable for the dishes, and while I am supportive of the BC wine community, their products are not on a quality scale with the global powerhouses, and again, the price doesnt warrant the products offered. Especially a very questionable sake - one that left an ethanol taste on the palate. On the whole, I am glad I experienced it, but for 3 people with wine pairing and tip, a final bill of $850 didnt match the overall experience, and I wont be returning.
June 24, 2024. We decided to try our luck as walk ins for my wife s birthday dinner. We had put our name on the waitlist but no email came back. To our surprise they had room at the bar and half way through service the restaurant was fairly empty. We ordered the Berry Moon tasting menu with classic wine pairing each. We added sourdough bread and caviar to the cabbage and halibut plate. The food was delicious and the wines paired well. It was awesome to see the chefs at work from the bar. My one complaint is that the barstools were uncomfortable. One would expect more comfortable seats at this premium restaurant. Next time I would go back to the table seats. The service and atmosphere was great. My previous review below. The Mrs and I decided to celebrate my birthday at Burdock and Co.. Today was the last day of the Citrus menu as they apparently prepared a 10th Anniversary menu. The restaurant received a Michelin star. Our server told us with a menu that changes regularly and different Michelin reviewers they couldn t say what dish earned them that rating. I have to say the service was excellent and everyone seemed friendly and attentive. The food was very good overall. The chef was creative. Each dish was well plated and the flavours from each ingredient had a purpose and paired well with each other. My wife was full but I have to say I can imagine a lot of people would require larger portions. The atmosphere was great. The restaurant is small but we could hold a conversation easily. My one complaint is that the pace of service felt a little rushed. My wife and I barely finished the wine pairings before the next course. Tonight was not a busy night yet they felt the food had to come out sooner. Would we come back again? Yes Would we recommend here? 100% Is it affordable? No. Is it worth it? It is worth a try. You could just order the tasting menu and share a bottle of wine or avoid the alcohol all together and enjoy the food! I love the concept here and look forward to seeing what the next tasting menu brings.
Food had wonderful complex flavors that went together spectacularly. Presentation is perfect and so is the Wine pairing - best part is the background & info about each wine producer (loved that the majority happened to be women and that some lesser known BC wines were included). Service was impeccable & Georgio, our server was amazing. Thank you!
We booked a table on the patio. This was a table outside the restaurant on a street. Metal table, camping chairs, no tablecloth. The first beer came in a tin can! The bottle of wine was too warm. The food was very good, the service too. The total package is too expensive at 330 for 2 people.
The most incredible meal I have ever had. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the staff were talented and gracious. A milestone birthday celebrated perfectly!
Great food and service :)
Incredible and innovative little restaurant. The food is fantastic quality, so thoughtful and completely worth the price. Its a beautiful and intimate space.
Had the chance to try Burdock & Co the other day and Ive gotta say that I was pretty impressed. Had the course menu and from start to finish I was very happy with my experience. Before I get into the food Ive got to recommend the wine pairing. Each bottle was thoughtfully picked out and our servers were able to go into depth about the selection of wines. The flavors on the menu were very unique and inspiring. In Vancouver, it seems that many restaurants tend to lean on Asian flavors. Though there is nothing inherently wrong with that, it was nice to experience something different and more thought provoking. Each dish beautifully presented with each their own distinct characteristics. (Definitely opt in for the Arctic Sourdough Add-on, trust me.) Definitely deserving of their Michelin status.
Tried their tasting menu with a gal pal shortly before they were awarded their M-star! Shockingly, the cabbage was the most unforgettable dish!
Weve been trying out the Michelin restaurants in Vancouver and Burdock & Co is the absolute best in my opinion. It was a truly memorable, exceptional meal and well deserving of its reputation. I love the Moon menu series, looking forward to seeing what the other menus are coming up this year!
Memorable. Service. Ambience and cuisine that let the natural ingredients sing for themselves and soar.
This place is a scam. Midway through our meal we were making plans to eat somewhere else as it simply wasnt enough food. We ordered the tasting menu and expected to leave satisfied. Considering the price, It felt like the ultimate in pretentious dining, almost an emporers new clothes scenario where you spend a ridiculous amount to convince yourself that you have had a good meal. Pro tip- do not go to this restaurant hungry, the time between courses was long enough for us to be anxious and hungry the whole meal. Do yourself a favor if you want to eat out and skip this place, maybe give salvio Volpe a try.
The most underrated restaurant in Vancouver. Service is above and beyond from the moment you get there and atmosphere is perfect. The set menu is an amazing display of talent and local cuisine. Can t express how much everyone should try this restaurant
We had a lovely experience at Burdock & Co. recently. We enjoyed a full tasting menu all vegetarian that still aligned with the seasonal theme! Vegetarian fine dining is lacking in Vancouver and this restaurant delivers (you just have to inform them you are vegetarian when booking). We joined them for the budding moon menu featuring different tree-related ingredients and their team did a great job making this vegetarian! The service was on point - conversational and fun, but professional and detail-oriented. The wine pairings were great too! Food was fresh, creative with great flavor combinations and well-plated. We will definitely be back to try more of their seasonal menus. Vegetarian options: They are vegetarian-friendly with advanced notice. Vegetarians still get a full tasting menu in line with the seasonal menu!
Im not sure if it would receive a Michelin star at all if it wasnt in Canada/Vancouver to be honest, but it was still great. There was just nothing very particularly special about anything. It was good, but nothing surprised me or impressed me. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
If you re looking for an amazing dining experience with a chill vibe in an intimate setting, this is the place! One of my favourite places! Love the ever-changing curated menus filled with seasonal delights! The food is incredible and always so beautifully plated. A treat for all the sense. The staff is also amazing! Their knowledge of the food and the wines truly makes the experience special each time! I was there last night and am already looking forward to my next visit!
I was unsure if I would enjoy the food since the concept is so unique, but was surprised that all the flavors were made in a way that tasted great together. Their menu is seasonal so I can t speak for other dishes but the resin menu is very good. Some items were a tad salty for my taste but overall great food and great time.
Vegetarian options: They always have a vegetarian tasting menu option and they do veggies sooooooo well Recommended dishes
Burdock has remained my favourite restaurant for coming up on 10 years! It s everything I want in a dining experience; incredible and creative food, perfect wine pairings, intimate ambiance, and elegant service. I always leave enchanted and satiated. 10/10
Burdock & Co is always a pleasure, but do not miss their current citrus menu. It was especially wonderful and the fact that they use all local citrus is a treat.
A very small shop on the corner of main ! Wow ! I didn t expect such a fantastic food and customer service is great ! All staff have knowledge of all the details and effort used to put every single plate on your table ! They even shod you the fantastic selection of the exotic local fruits they used ! Support the local business and make your dinner date a fantastic night to remember !
Heavenly, ethereal, perfect.
Burdock & Co is a singular dining experience: its perhaps my favourite restaurant in Vancouver; their food is magic/alchemy > cooking; this is a place where time stands still...you dont notice that 2 hrs just drifted by. I cant speak more highly of this place if I wanted to. I TREASURED celebrating my birthday at Burdock & Co last night!
Best not so secret restaurant in Mount Pleasant. Perfect wine parings, excellent service. A true gem. The set menu is always unique, surprising and delicious.
We were hesitant to try this restaurant due to mixed reviews, but we decided to go without a reservation, and guess what? It was simply exceptional. The place is cozy and very intimate, with a view of the kitchen. The service is truly remarkable, with perfect explanations. We benefited from great wine recommendations. The service was very attentive, and everyone seemed passionate about what they were doing. As for the food, it was absolutely remarkable. We opted for the $125 menu. Its worth noting that the menu changes every two months with a different theme, and this month it was citrus-themed. Everything was perfectly orchestrated. All the flavors were there. You can really feel that there is a lot of work behind it. I have to say that this restaurant has earned a place on my favorites list in Vancouver.
I have been to many Michelin starred restaurants and this was, by far, the worst. I took my husband there for his birthday as he is a sommelier, wine maker and amazing cook and this was listed on the Michelin guide as a one star. Not impressed from the start. Decor was minimal, tables very close together and set menu only. Not in the best part of town, no view. My main problem was the 4 hairs I found in the second course. The first one was on the side of my fork and I picked it off and thought it was probably an anomaly, you know - maybe it was mine, wasnt really IN the food. But the second and third ones were right in the food. I had to dig them out of my mouth after I swallowed. The fourth one I dug out with my toothbrush after I got home. I kept trying to salvage the dinner and keep smiling as my husband was really wanting to enjoy it. I gave up eating as I couldnt enjoy the food, kept gagging, feeling like I was going to find another hair. So they comped one appy for my disastrous find. We spent almost $600 and I just cant see why they have 4.3 stars. I have tried to think about this dispassionately and even without the hair in my food I would have said it was only ok. Not great, not amazing, just ok. Save your money, not worth it.
This was our favourite meal of 2023. I can t understand the bad reviews at all - the food was exceptional, drinks were great, and atmosphere was perfect. I can only think people are coming here expecting white tablecloths and silver service. It isn t that vibe, but if you re looking for an exceptional meal, interesting food with true provenance in aesthetic surroundings then this is your place
WOW! Not enough superlatives to properly describe the atmosphere, service, presentation, or food. It was an amazing experience from beginning to end. A must visit!
Now Ive been to a few Michelin star restaurants in Spain and perhaps Im comparing this to them. Service was great and but the food apart from the scollops didnt hit the price point or flavour and lets not talk about the Sturgeon. $125 CAD I did expect much more, looked good and plated well.
One of the best experiences and food I have had in Vancouver in a long time. The food was exquisite, and the staff went above and beyond on every moment to make it the most enjoyable eve for me and my friends. 10/10 would recommend.
Our experience tonight was PHENOMENAL! The outstanding service, the thoughtful pairings, everything was perfectly balanced and every dish was executed to a 10/10! I cannot stop thinking about the food, and I am actually lost for words. Officially my favourite restaurant in Vancouver!!
I love restaurants providing espresso at night
Not worth of a star IMO! Too many repetitive ingredients in every course. The theme was ridicule and while I dont mind ridicule, most the dishes had it. Other ingredients repeated throughout the different courses included goat/blue cheese and mushrooms. If someone doesnt like one of these ingredients, too bad, because its repeated throughout the night and is offputting. Oh and wines were $30 a glass but it was not mentioned so it was a surprise when the bill came. Theres care put into the dishes, service is good, and the place itself is nice and moody. Washrooms had high end scents. So many other good restaurants out there, this is not a repeat.
Excellent service and food. Every dish has its spotlight. I have tried 4 Michelin star restaurants after the first year of the Vancouver Michelin announcement. Burdock is the best experience for me.
We were seated 20-25 minutes after our reservation time but did receive an okay bubbly upon seating. Mind you, you did have to put a deposit (I think it was $50) to get the reservation. The price is pretty good for a Michelin star restaurant but I personally was pretty underwhelmed. My favourite dish was the seared duck (not pictured) that they had in November 2022. I personally thought everything was pretty over seasoned as well The wine menu though, is really spectacular.
Its fantastic. Enough said
Lovely ambience and creative dishes. Well worth the price. Service is friendly and would come back again!
We make it a point to try Michelin star restaurants when visiting different cities and we were disappointed we chose Burdock. The food was good but didnt quite live up to other Michelin awarded restaurants weve eaten at in other cities. One of the biggest surprises was that they did not have a non-seafood option for the main course which is a big issue when you have to make reservations before you know what the menu will be. At the end of the day it just felt really over priced for the food. Service was excellent but the food is most important.
Food is great, but not really more special than other western pacific type restaurants out there.
Great brunch spot.
Flat out amazing! Not one item disappointed. Certainly will be back Dietary restrictions: We had none, but the certainly asked if we had any to accommodate Food : 5/5 |
The food is good. But maybe my expectations was too high~
We had the tasting menu and every bite was good as the last! Highlights: Ling cod and definitely ask for the bread on the side with butter. Amazing service and wine pairing! Recommended dishes Wine Pairing, Ling Cod, Sable Fish
Highly overrated. Sorry.
DINE OUT VANCOUVER 2023 Had a great experience dining at Burdock & Co! We were sitting at the bar and could see the chef and the crew in action. It was really impressive how they paid attention to every detail and prepared the dishes with care. We ordered all 6 items on the Dine Out Vancouver menu. Everything tasted great. Our favourites were both of the main dishes and the parsnip Mount Seymour for the dessert.
All of the servings were great. One of the dishes was one of the best that I ve ever had. I forget what it s called but it was a savoury, rose shaped, beet puff pastry. It was phenomenal!
Really fun night, did the wine pairing with their tasting menu and everything was so good! Staff is always great :)
Went for my wife s birthday and it was an absolutely amazing experience. We will be back when the menu changes
I feel bad for the Michelin Inspectors who clearly came on an off night. The experience was phenomenal. The service staff was attentive and incredibly knowledgeable, yet wildly relaxed and comforting. Every dish, and the menu as a whole, was thoughtfully presented and perfectly seasoned. Thankfully, nobody here is afraid of salt. This is a restaurant where everyone clearly loves what they do, with a culture of growth and excellence - the team helped each other without contempt or judgement, fueled by the desire to make a great experience. I am so happy that we were able to eat here before they get another star (or two!) Vegetarian options: This is a vegetable forward restaurant, they seem to handle vegetarian requests with ease. Dietary restrictions: 24 hours prior to our visit we were asked about any dietary restrictions. These were confirmed once we were sat.
Terrific fine dining experience. The restaurant has a gorgeous, romantic atmosphere, and the service here was top notch and in line with what you would hope for from a restaurant of this calibre. My partner and I opted for the wine pairing with the tasting menu, which I would strongly recommend. The food itself was really varied in the different flavours offered up, but all of them were delicious and memorable in their own way. Really glad I checked this place out.
Honestly. Food was mediocre. Price was high. Some dishes didnt make sense... The first entree Buddhas hand looked great 10/10 for presentation but it was bland. The only thing with flavor was the ice I fused with citrus notes... Lamb was super gamey and the texture of the foam on that dish was tasteless and gooey almost like phlegm. Food was definitely the biggest disappointment. Service was superb a d the atmosphere was nice and well decorated. A little cramped but its understandable seeing how small the restaurant was.
Went here for Valentines Day dinner. Love the food and attentive service. Wine pairing was great. AnnaLena might nudge it out but Burdocks definitely near the top of the recent Michelin starred restos in Vancouver.
Food was delicious. Great atmosphere and awesome service. Locally source produce.
The food and the wine pairing makes the overall experience amazing. A must if visiting Vancouver
It is a great experience. The 5 course dinner is enough, you will not feel hungry. The best dish in my opinion was the Lisbon Lemon. I recomend this place. The wait was about 15 minutes with a reservation but worth the wait.
This was hands down the best meal Ive ever had. We will definitely be coming back again and again.
Visited in December 2022 with my girlfriend. The decor is very chic and had a welcoming vibe. We ordered the tasting menu, I enjoyed every dish I had. The food was very tasty. Our server took the time to go over every dish with us and was also very sweet. Would definitely visit again. I give this place a 4 star in comparison to other tasting menus I ve had at other 1 Michelin star restaurants
My girlfriend and I came on a Monday night and had a great experience. We both did the wine pairing and also added a few supplemental dishes. One of the better 1 star Michelins that I ve been to.
Went there for dinner and had the citrus tasting menu. It was good but not my cup of tea, and was pretty pricey, and the portions were also quite small for me personally. The food took a lot of time even though it s a small restaurant and not many people were there (took around 30 minutes between each meal). Food was unique, service was excellent, and the atmosphere was really relaxed. I love how this restaurant isn t as formal or fancy as all the other Michelin stars. Parking: It was not too hard to find parking.
More than anything, im disappointed in Michelin guid people, our citrus journey set menu was just meh, nth to go back to, nth special, the price makes it even worst, its easy to get fooled by all the dish descriptions from the waitress this comes from where infused with that none sense
My first time at a Michelin-star restaurant and I was a tad underwhelmed. The ingredients were all locally sourced and they worked very hard to put together a menu that seemed cohesive. My favourite dish would have had to have been the seared tuna. We also added the burrata as our starter and it was a tad disappointing. It was a good experience in general but I would have to say the highlight was the service. They did a great job of explaining each plate and even helped pick out a great glass of wine for me.
My partner and I went for our 4 year anniversary not knowing what to expect. The food and ambience were great, but the standout element was the service. Kieran was EXCELLENT, actually the best server my girlfriend and I EVER had. In the past, servers have always been there, pleasant, good to deal with, but Kieran elevated the experience from great food, to a great overall experience. We will come back for his jokes and insight. My only regret is not asking where he got his glasses from (I lowkey want a pair).
This place rocks. Amazing flavors in everything. Fun and delicious dishes. Reasonable wines by the glass but not a ton, so prob just get the wine pairing. One of the my new favorite restaurants.
Very friendly staff, was able to get a reservation 2-3 weeks in advance. The tasting menu was perfect, everything went well together and the desert had a nice mix of all the textures from the meal. It has a casual atmosphere (pretty small spot)!
Menu was very original and creative but out of the five courses we had only one was memorable, others laked taste and presence. Menu changes often hopefully it gets better next time. Unfortunately this time it did not impress and for the price was kind of disappointing specially for the expectations a micheling Star restaurant. Service was very good but thr timing between the courses felt really long and compared to tables on either side of ours it was considerable.
For a Michelin star restaurant, the service was disappointing. We went here for a birthday celebration which was indicated on the reservation. There was no mention of this or asking throughout the meal at all. We also had a cocktail with our meal that was quite subpar with the taste profile. It was bitter and sour. I do believe that other restaurants which received a Michelin star had a better dining experience. It may have been deserving to be on the Michelin recommended list (not a star), but given our experience, we were quite disappointed. I would probably not recommend for others to come if they are expecting a Michelin star experience.
Amazing place. Nice wine list, food is fresh, perfectly put together. And Shiva makes the experience even better. Absolute must in Vancouver.
Was on my list of places to try and I was not disappointed! Everything was delicious and I liked the creativity and presentation of the dishes. The lamb that was cooked two ways was a real treat. The service was quite accommodating as well, which unfortunately is not a guarantee nowadays especially with certain restaurants. Only minor nitpick is that the restaurant was a bit too dim and they need a foyer as whenever the door was opened the cold winter wind would blow in. Otherwise, I recommend Burdock and Co and will be back again soon.
I have wanted to go here for many years and was almost sad when it got the Michelin star as I feared that was true end of my chance to get a table and the cost would double. But.. the chance finally came and it was an experience worth waiting for. The restaurant offers a set menu ($95) is 5 courses, modest in size but outsized in interesting ingredients (many of which are locally foraged) and flavour/texture combinations. The starters (or add ons) are shared portions and come before the mains if you so choose. We decided we needed to try the savoury profiteroles with fois gras and we didn t regret it. We went for the wine pairing and didn t regret it. The knowledgeable background on the producers and their methods was really engaging and each was the perfect sup for the plates. They are all organic (natty wines, as I ve been told) which I ll be honest, I m sometimes afraid of in case we re sacrificing quality for the organic label, but these were great in their own right and turned me into a believer. The service was very casual, friendly, detailed, completely comfortable but still absolutely highest class. The only quibble I have at all was the bar seating which is never my favourite because I felt like I had to turn to my eating partner to see them and eat half turned on my seat. So, I d ask for a table on the floor if you can. (I know for next time). And last but not least the menu itself was interesting, drew you in. It was a really delightful. The stuffed morels the aged dry pork, the light and fluffy sauce that housed the ravioli. The citrus (hydroponically grown on salt spring island) everything had a story to accompany the taste. Glad to have made it here finally, hope to come back soon.
Im truly shocked by the number of low reviews of Burdock (granted most are from a few years ago). This place was one of the best dining experiences in the city in my opinion. A truly local assortment of foods with a great story behind every dish. The wine list is also amazing, and you wont be disappointed with either of the pairing options (they offer a standard and a premium level). Portion size was what youd expect at a set menu experience like this. Totally adequate and not too small like most people say. I would recommend ordering the fried chicken and one of the other optional starters (theyre all delicious) if you show up hungry though. The staff were quite friendly but not over the top. What was most important is they were knowledgeable about what they were serving and the story behind it. If you enjoy a truly great dining experience this is your place.
the food here is top tier. was surprised how good it was
everything was awesome! Great vibe and super nice crew.
I ve tried the set menu and I found it s all good in a small portion of every dishes. Services are excellent but very slow coz I booked the table for 9.15 pm but I had to wait till 9.40 pm.
Not sure if it was just an off night but was pretty underwhelmed. We waited 25 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. We sat at the bar and the chairs were uncomfortable. Quite noisy inside, couldn t hear anyone that wasn t sitting beside me. There was a table on the other side of the restaurant that was very noisy, I really wish they had talked to them to calm down. As for the food, we had the tasting menu inspired by different kinds of trees. The dishes were unique and most were delicious but the pork which was the main dish was rubbery and I left most of it on my plate. The mushroom dish, shrimp on toast, ravioli, and olive oil cake were really good. The ravioli was lukewarm and I found a small hair in it (we were sitting right by the kitchen and none of the kitchen staff were wearing hats), but otherwise it was great. The wine pairings were very nice. Overall compared to the other Michelin restaurants I ve visited, this was underwhelming. Our experience would have been a lot better if the restaurant was less noisy and the chairs more comfortable... its amazing what a difference those small details can make. Unfortunately I probably won t be back.
Meh Arctic sourdough - wow Burrata - wow Mushroom thingy - meh Douglas fir - meh Black cottonwood - meh Spruce - slightly better than meh Citrus - slightly better than meh
The food was amazing, but portions are ridiculously small.
Really beautiful plating and very tasty. Portions are small
Food was so TINY not worth $95 for this pretentious restaurant
Unbelievable dining experience. Thoughtful, creative menu executed beautifully!
A unique and memorable dining experience.
I recommend this place although I think the food could be better Really great service and ambience The sourdough break and burrata was awesome. About the recent 5 course tasting menu... I loved the morel mushrooms appetizer and the dessert. Shrimp dish was Strong The ravioli dish and pork dish didnt make sense. About Wine selection... Maybe do wine pairing? Im not sure, the bottle we were recommended was okay with the food but to me its obvious a different wine could do better.
It is a small restaurant. I looked it up and found good review. Thats why we went. We also tried the tasting menu. All dishes are from local but not tasty. The worst is the dessert. We all didnt finish it. Also wine list is very limited . Wont go again. Only thing good is the service which is generally good in Vancouver.
Truly excellent. The service was as good as you can find anywhere. Loved the idea of a different server introducing their dish! And the food was as wonderful as the reviews and national rankings would suggest. We managed to get a last minute reservation on the patio, but this, in the evening sunshine, was better than indoors.
Food was perfect A bit too packed, but not too bad Food
They had a tasting menu and an extensive wine list. Additionally ordered the burrata and it was amazing. Everything was wonderful, especially their bread. Been here several times, their tasting menu is always delicious and made with local ingredients. Great place to go for a celebration or just if you love food. Dietary restrictions: They will accomodate to different dietary restrictions and allergies.
My wife and I had dinner on here on our last night in Vancouver, with the Flower Gazing Under the Berry Moon menu. We were absolutely stunned by the food, had no idea what to anticipate but it was a lovely meal, every single course. Our server was Shiva and she was absolutely fantastic, we actually wanted her to sit down and dine with us she was so nice, made excellent suggestions for drinks and pairings. Wonderful experience.
When I booked a table 3 weeks ago, the price for the tasting menu on their website was $95. Last night when we were seated it was already $125. Thats a huge adjustment. Its ok to update prices but they should update those that already booked and paid down a deposit. For the food: It was not bad but not exceptional. The sourdough (they have the story how the sour was developed in the arctic or whatever) was quite dry. The green salad was...some greens with some vinaigrette. As average as it can go. Could have added some micro grated cheese for more depth. Maybe enhance the taste with some aged balsamic. The crab dish was very good, as well as the following cod. The biggest disappointment was the wagyu dish. It was chewie with no trace of marbling. It was a WYNO (wagyu by name only). When I told them that, the chef (very nice) explained to me that it was a picanha cut and therefore a tougher cut. In my view, if you claim to serve a wagyu beef, it must taste and feel like a wagyu beef. And if this cut is tougher, use a different cut. The desert was excellent. Wine: We opted for the premium wine pairing for $99. It was very good except for the only red which was a gamay wine. Not my favorite grape in general but regardless, I think they should have chosen a more structured wine. If they stay on the lighter French course - a Burgundy. At least a village or even a 1er cru. Service was great. We sat on the bar which is great as you can see all the work thats done n the small kitchen. The patio (the outdoor option) seems gloomy so I would stay away.
Meh. Service was decent albeit slow. Very noticeable that none of the employees smiled. Not sure if they enjoy working there. Gave off a negative vibe. Food quality was good and creative but often under seasoned. It does say something though when the best bite was the dessert. The halibut mousseline was grainy. The Wagyu cap was tough. Sabayon was oddly sweet and didn t really suit the crab and pommes Anna. They did get the wine pairings right though. I get how restaurants want to describe the food and wine so that patrons appreciate the quality but there was way too much talking about the food. Sometimes you need to let the food and wine talk for itself.
Outstanding! The 6 course tasting menu was incredible. I savoured every bite which I admit is unusual for me. Clearly they take a huge amount of time and effort selecting quality ingredients and putting together some of the best dishes you could hope to eat. Each dish has incredible flavor and looks stunning. The staff does a great job of explaining the dish and ingredients. It really adds to the whole experience. On top of that the wine recommendation... Blew my mind. The wine I tried was a perfect match and something so different that I had expected or experienced. Dietary restrictions: They are more than willing to accommodate and will ask ahead of time. Kid-friendliness: Michelin star restaurants are not really for kids.
Small portions and overpriced for the quality they are putting out. Not a single memorable dish. What was memorable was my date being scolded by the manager of the diner next door for using their washroom - at the advisement of our server because the only washroom at Burdock was out of order. After letting our server know of this unpleasant experience, no recompense was initiated. More than not recommending this place, I would likely tell friends to avoid. Disappointing.
Im with Adam on this one and I had the same menu. This place is not for everyone. I dont really think its for me either. I feel like a lot of what I experienced was wasted on my not refined enough palate. I surely missed as much or more than I caught. The thought and preparation that goes into these courses is ridiculous. Artistic If you really are a foodie though this spot is absolutely a must hit The dessert they have right now is one of the most special things Ive ever tried... in my life. Glad I went but Burdock, I admit it. Youre genuinely too good for me. I see you and appreciate you 100% though.
What a wonderful experience. The food was incredible and creative, even foods I wouldnt normally eat and dont like were delectable. The service was incredible. The team work between the crew was awesome and our main server was so kind and helpful. I would absolutely recommend this place and would definitely go again.
My favorite restaurant experience so far. I recommend sitting at the bar, where you can watch everything come together in the open kitchen. Opt into the wine pairing, which matches each course with a selection from their intriguing wine list.
Parking: Theres an Indigo underground parking garage at Kingsway and Broadway. Else the street parking is extremely limited. Food
If you like small plates with very different flavor profiles this is definitely the place to be. We did the tasting menu and by far it was one of the best experiences I have had.
I did A LOT of research before committing to Burdock and CO - its our first time to Vancouver and the week of our 25th wedding anniversary. I wanted every dinner to be special. This place did not disappoint. The venue was small and refined, but not stuffy in any way (I was in shorts, a linen shirt, sandals and felt right at home). Maybe it was a little louder at times and maybe a little warmer than I was hoping for (but maybe that was the sun talking - we were outside, on the water, a good portion of the day). The staff was great - welcoming and informative. The background noise made it tough to hear every detail of every dish, but the team did a wonderful job walking us through each course and answering any questions we had. Each course of the prefix menu was beautiful, eclectic, familiar in some ways and totally complex and unique in others. No one course was the clear favorite - and there were no misses. Each plate left the table clean. The standard 6 courses would have been enough food, but we splurged with an extra course - the tots and caviar (they were out of the borrata). We walked out stuffed, but in the ridiculously overly satisfied way. Burdock and Co is a must stop for any foodie living in or just visiting Vancouver.
: service is fairly attentive and informative. wine by the glass suggestion is on point. food combination is quite interesting but don t expect the wow effect. most of the dishes could do better. the highlight of the meal would be the add-on dish (savory profiteroles) instead of the Moon Berry tasting menu ($125 + tax). the choux fillings change seasonally. this time is the cured steelhead tartare with brown butter hollandaise and preserved citrus. their Arctic sourdough nails it, probably the most stable dish throughout the time. would order this separately if it s still available to add on. the lamb loin is surprisingly divine, no gamey taste. sakura glaze with a touch of sour cherry bring a balance to the dish. : unfortunately, not all things work out for this tasting menu (looking at the seafood dishes). the Thorle Riesling pairing saved it tho. some dishes (cornbread and dessert) also have overpowering herbs that make it hard to finish. still, pretty appreciate the creative approach to local produces at Burdock.
Amazing tiny restaurant, packed with atmosphere! The local produce centric menu was everything I hoped it would be, the Chef ensures every course is perfectly balanced, and the wine pairings elevated the flavours of each course. Tourists looking for the best Vancouver has to offer, here it is
Exceptional food, dining and service! Very knowledgeable staff that were passionate and positive!
Very poncy, some of the food was good, some average.
Our first time at Burdock & Co and it was incredible. The 6 course Sturgeon Moon tasting menu incorporates lots of interesting components in the dishes and was amazingly tasty. I never thought a corn centred dish could pack so much flavour. The Negroni with the chef-smoked-in-a-barrel-at-home ingredients was really special. Love the focus on local producers. The wine pairings were all on point and introduced us to some new varietals. The service staff was all really knowledgeable and provided tons of detailed info about where ingredients came from and the preparation techniques used. Provided a relaxed but elevated experience. The small seating area means that the kitchen can execute everything to perfection. New favourite fine dining restaurant in Vancouver!
Good cooking and very fresh ingredients. Been there three times, menu changed everytime I was there. Fantastic service and good wine menu.
This charming spot is serviced by a staff of stars happy doing what they re doing. Taking particular care of me was Kieran who was attuned to my comfort and pleasure. He s swell. The seafood forward summer menu is quite inventive and sophisticated. Vegetarian options: They re available for those who want that specifically.
Had the 5 course menu and exceeded my expectations. The server took her time to explain each dish and the presentation was exquisite. The stuffed Morel dish was my favourite and the ice cider pairing with the dessert went perfectly together. Definitely worthy of it s Michelin Star
I have been to Burdock three times over the last 3 years and it is still one of my favourite dining experiences in the world. Its a must to sit at the bar however, immersed in front of the open kitchen so that you can connect with the team and the food. I wouldnt appreciate it as much otherwise. To say they are detail oriented is an understatement. Everything is so meticulously prepared and balanced using local fresh ingredients and curated wine pairing. I brought a friend this time who has travelled extensively and he was blown away. This unpretentious Vancouver restaurant is such a treat and a gift.
There wasnt a dish I didnt like. Probably my favorite dish was the corn risotto. I have had a few tasting menus with drink pairings and this place has been by far my favorite. They definitely know what they are doing with that. Each wine had a wonderful story about the wine makers and how they came to be. Burdoch & Co has provided two new experiences for me. First time trying sturgeon and of course, caviar. What a great experience, highly recommended. (Almost had a complete photo op, completely forgot to photograph the main dish )
It s ok but doesn t live up to other tasting menus in the city
I feel like we paid $125 for corn and cucumber. The corn dish was overly sweet, the cucumber dish was fine but not overly interesting. The sturgeon was a ball of tough meat that required a steak knife. The dessert was nice. Service was great but the flavour and quality did not add up to the price point. Disappointed.
Attended a wedding reception here, and the staff really went out of their way to make it special. The food was fantastic, as was the service and the wine pairings. Cannot wait to go back again.
Honestly feeling like a scam for what we got with $150... (after tax and tips) I couldve bought a cucumber or corn farm with that much of money.
This just hits on all levels. Add a wine pairing for a fun insight to local and worldly great wines
See photos for description and commentary of food. I ve been here twice. The first visit was good. Food was pretty good, although a couple of add on items were forgotten. It made me want to try again. I went for the second time last week and felt the tasting menu was at least 50 dollars overpriced. We got a bunch of bread, some vegetables, small, thin, lukewarm scallops, a very rubbery fish, and a dessert for $125. All the dishes were fine, a couple were pretty good (the corn and the cucumber but they were very similar dishes to serve one after the other), but both in terms of volume and quality, it did not feel like it was worth $125. Our server said some confusing things. For example, they asked how would you like to get started? At the beginning, which left me and my friend perplexed - what do you mean how would you like to get started? We thought it was a tasting menu ? (Turned out that was an indirect way of asking if we wanted to order any add ons first) I really appreciated having an option for a half glass of wine though! Disappointing second experience. Total cost for the tasting menu, a cocktail, and half a glass of wine plus tip was just under $200. I felt bad I made my friend spend a lot of money, and I doubt I ll come back here again. Parking: The Salvation Army parking lot is a 2 min walk away and always has room
A solid Michelin dining experience. The food was excellent . We ordered the tasting menu which included a total of 6 courses. The combinations of ingredients/textures/temperatures and flavours made every dish unique and exciting. However, portion sizes felt like they could be slightly larger. Service was also excellent. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Courses came out every 10-20 min which was a comfortable pace for the service. In total we spent ~1h50m at the restaurant. The atmosphere wasnt anything special. It was a dimly lit area with lots of candles but nothing that made you say wow. In total we got 2 tasting menus + a bottle of wine. The total came out to be $400. The breakdown 2 tasting menus ($125/each) 1 bottle of wine (~$72) tax (~$32) 15% tip (~$50) Overall, it was a good time and a nice restaurant to cross off the Michelin list.
We had an absolutely lovely time at Burdock! What impressed me the most was the way they accommodated a member of our party who is gluten-intolerant. I had noted the dietary requirement when I made the booking, and our server brought it up as soon as we sat down. The GF options were exceptional, not an afterthought like you see in most restaurants. The meal was excellent and the service was top notch. Highly recommend!
Honestly pretty underwhelming. 5 course tasting, and the first course is bread. Other than that, the other 4 portions are pretty small and a bit dull, lot of similar textures and only one meat/fish. So you get bread, corn or cucumber based dishes worth in excess of $25 each which feels like a rip off. Staff are very nice if a bit too regular to the table, and wine was good to be fair. Along with cool vibe and really nice washroom. Would say if you ve got the money to not worry too much about spending >$400 for dinner for two then go for it, but much better value to be found through the city and on Main st.
The food and atmosphere here is 5 star. Hats off to the chefs and staff of this establishment.
Excellent idea of local cuisine, prepared & served by passionate folks. Scallops were overcooked IMHO but the other dishes were good to outstsnding. Will return.
Honestly, mid as f.uck. worst Michelin star restaurant Ive ever been to. Bland, subtle flavours that are not great and overpriced. Published on main is 100x better for less money
A cozy, quiet, and relaxed environment towards the end of the evening. Great combination and complexity of flavours in the tasting menu. Nice wine pairings. Decent portion sizes. Highly recommended for a special night out! I wonder what they put in the batter of the buttermilk fried chicken...
Bold, confident, and creative menu from chef Andrea Carlson. Great food great service. I don t normally like corn bread but this was excellent. It wasn t heavy and dry. There was a hint of cinnamon that worked perfectly with it. The squash with goats cheese was excellent. The wine pairing could have been better. The dessert wine was great. Floral and sweet but paired with the dessert which was sweet it became too sweet for my taste. A BC Riesling would have been great with it. Not going to review the food in detail cause they change every few weeks but definitely deserved of the star. My only complaint, the dessert dish was soooo sticky on the outside. My fingers were so sticky by the time I finished the plate. Maybe it s just my OCD but that was a bit disappointing. Yeah I m quibbling over details but at this level of fine dining it s all about the details. I ll be back.
Being a chef myself, I had very high expectations of Burdock & Co and they were exceeded by a mile. Mindblowing food with so many little tricks and nuances that I will be reminiscing for a long time; incredible service with a personal touch that made me feel most welcome and comfortable. I will be definitely coming back here next time I m in Vancouver.
Great service and atmosphere, but the radicchio focused menu was average at best. I d avoid until the next menu.
So, controversial but this is probably one of my lowest rated Michelin experiences that I ve done. The food was not great. It wasn t bad either. It was just alright. There were some dishes like the sablefish and puntarelle that were very nicely cooked. Flavors and textures just lacked innovation for me. The service was superb and atmosphere was really dark and intimate, as in you will hear everything your neighbors are saying. It is a very small and cramp restaurant. Only thing I would leave you with is the value for the price is NOT there. The fact that we booked this last min and were able to get in easily speaks for itself. If you are a Michelin foodie, try it out! Otherwise there are plenty of other much better Michelin places to dine at in Vancouver.
A great Michelin experience. The restaurant ambience made us feel like we were in NYC. The front of house staff and waitresses were also very informed of the menu and dishes. The overall food was delicious and very intentional with the radicchio. Although they missed one of the dishes, it was still a good experience. Would recommend trying out their tasting menu with a wine pairing.
Its taken me a really long time to write this review, as Ive never had such a horrible dining experience. A friend brought here as a surprise not long after they received their Michelin star, so we obviously expected to be wowed. It was a Monday night 7:30 seating, the place was about 1/3 full. We were seated at the bar overlooking the kitchen which is usually our favourite spot. Unfortunately the stools there are TINY and not conducive to dining, not to mention the cold draft coming from the back hallway. But that aside....we were invited to order a cocktail beforehand, and since we were going to do the tasting menu with wine pairings, I asked for a vodka martini. Nope, they dont have vodka. They only carry booze for the 5 cocktails on the menu, two of which they were sold out of (already, on a Monday at 7:30pm) which left very little to choose from. Whatever! I let it go. Our first of 5 courses was a bread basket, which was a little surprising, but not uncommon from what Im seeing in high end restaurants these days, though easier to accept if you have 7 or 10 course, vs the 5 we were having. The second, third and fourth courses - in the theme Under A Drying Rice Moon were highly disappointing. A puree of cauliflower (meh) over an unsavoury congee (terribly sour), a sliver of shaved scallop (paper thin) atop a tasteless radish cake, followed by a dry, tough piece of duck breast. Our server (also the hostess) was lovely, and talked up the wine pairings well, with backstories for most of the wines. She never once asked about the food. When the dessert came - an apple tart - I thought for sure wed end on a sweet note, but alas, no. Not an ounce of flavour. The entire experience was shockingly bad. Im a seasoned patron, having dined in and worked at high end restaurants. This was beyond the pale. Id like to think it was an off night, but I will most likely never find out as I do not plan to return. Over $500 for this dining experience is enough for me.
Not as good as Michelin says. $130 per person, 5 courses but the first course is some bread. The bread is mid. The duck breast is okay but not remotely worth the price. Food
Excellent Visa Infinite Dining experience.
I felt the explanation for the dishes a bit pretentious and the flavors did not deliver. I would say the hostess and server was so inviting and kind! The bar seating beside the kitchen was really cool to see the kitchen in action. I just didn t find it lived up to the Michelin star hype mostly due to the lackluster food. Portions were so small and not very good. I have no desire to return.
Best experience ever! I ain t a foodie but am married to one, and she has a pocket list of restaurants around the world and we finally checked this one out and it was damn worth it! We were celebrating our 10th anniversary and it happened to be the day after Burdock received their second Michelin star. I am not picky with food but I dislike the taste of celery, and I could never imagine myself ever appreciating a dish smeared with the taste of celery but I did! Damn they even made me think the food I hate delicious! Their wines taste like heaven too. We will definitely return for more!
The sable fish was so tender and the cream pairs so well with the fish. The beef is such a highlight because Ive never had meat that tender in my whole life: it literally melted in my mouth without being too soggy. The dessert was very fruity but a bit too sweet in my opinion. I also didnt love the butter lettuce in multiple dishes. I guess its healthy but it really doesnt taste good and doesnt go well with the dish.
The reputation is well earned. Each dish was delicious, while being interacte and interesting. The beef cheek I had was a wild experience, as a carnivore. Some of the best beef Ive ever had. Book a table today, its worth it.
Unique and innovative food. Limited wine and cocktail list. Excellent service. Over priced.
Amazing food, local, fresh, farm to table. Simple ingredients but complex flavour profiles. The menu was centered around different kinds of Radicchio when we went, everything was fantastic, service is fast and professional. Would highly recommend!
Excellent dishes made with ingredients from local sources.
We dined in at Burdoch & Co. Restaurant on Main Street, Vancouver. A wonderful, delightful evening. The kitchen staff/ chefs are amazing. Tasty, palatable, very well crafted food/ deserts very well presented and served. Lots of effort. All the personnel are fantastic. Miss Shiva Reddy , resident sommelier recommended and served us superb crafted local wines. We will go back . Thank you.
beautifully crafted small plates with thoughtful service
I had the pleasure of sitting down for the tasting menu with a few of my closest friends for my birthday this year. It was my third time in and an unforgettable experience. Service went above and beyond to accommodate my allium sensitivity (something that many restaurants fail to do) while ensuring the integrity of the dishes remained intact. Wine pairings were perfect. I look forward to my next visit. Thank you to Shiva, Alexia, and Jordan for making it such a special night. Ps. You have to add the burrata and caviar..
Burdock & Co is a one michelin star restaurant situated in main st and w 11 ave. It is $125pp tasting menu with a bunch of different appetizer to add and wine pairing to add on top of that. If you dont add anything, basically you will pay $150pp including gax and gratuity. 1. Burdock Bread: The bread were okay. I wish they were salted more and made with more better to be more flavourful and have better texture. But the butter was superb thouth dont miss this 2. Rolsaba: this was the star dish of the tasting menu. Definitely made to perfection which each thing complements each other. Definitely something to keep up there 3. Treviso: i personally think there are so much flavour in one dish. All just mixing up together the bitterness the sourness the umami. So this is just personally i dislike. 4. Sugarloaf: this is very acquired taste but very interesting. 5. Costarossa: everything was good except the cheeks needed more seasoning or more sauce as it is very dry and the striploin has a lot of silver skin when trying to cut it so probably where the beef is coming from does not supply good cut. 6. Castlefranco: this was perfect just except wish the apple cakes were hotter and the condiments were way colder. Playing with the temperature difference can make it perfect. 7. Chicory Root: it was alright. In conclusion, the food here is very acquired taste and uses local product which is good. The 7 dishes made me full so which is good too. Service was superb never had a second where my drink is not filled. The place is very packed and noisy which is not my preference. But this is definitely something worth to try for the tasting course. Cheers!
Amazing food and excellent service
Had the chance to try this Michelin one star restaurant in Vancouver and went with the tasting menu with cocktails and an extra plate. We started with the limited return of fried chicken and the dill sauce was delicious. I can see why this has been one of the most popular dishes. The cocktail menu is a bit smaller, but they re well executed and are refreshing. The first course with bread had an amazing butter, variety of breads. The sour dough we got was a little burnt, well one entire side was burnt, not a toasted taste, but that burnt taste, so that was a little disappointing. The rest of the courses were great except the radish cake paired with the scallops was a little salty. Overall the service, ambiance, and food were very good. The value in the tasting menu is good as well. You won t leave hungry and they give you the right amount of food.
Service was good but the food was just OK, nothing special given the price point.
An amazing experience here for a recent holiday Christmas party for our office. The staff here are top notch and the food is absolutely amazing. Fried chicken and burrata are both a must to add on to your tasting menu experience! Dietary restrictions: They can accommodate pescetarian and vegan dietary preferences Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs on premise
Had the loveliest time celebrating our 1 year anniversary! We loved each dish on the current tasting menu and added the caviar with tater tots and the buttermilk fried rabbit to start - both highly recommend if youre treating yourself like we were! Special thanks to our server Devon for the great service and conversations throughout. Great ambiance. Cant wait to return!
I have been wanting to come here for quite awhile but the timing never worked out. Finally managed to wrangle friends to try the tasting menu and it was just delightful. All the ingredient are vibrantly prepared and plated with care but no pretension. The servers were fun and well versed. Im terrible with names but big to the whole team.
Overall great experience and well balanced menu
Even though the place tries to be good, it doesnt succeed, it The only passable thing was the bread and dessert and still nothing spectacular, it doesnt deserve what its worth and much less a Michelin star COMPLETELY OVERRATED
I went to the Bitter is Better radicchio festival and greatly enjoyed the atmosphere and food served during the event! An excellent event co-hosted by Farm Folk City Folk
Michelin one star is worth the value. All ingredients from BC and cooked perfectly!
They deserved and worked hard for the Michelin star they received. I was really impressed with the tasting menu, the service, and the ambiance. Great job all around. I highly recommend reserving and trying this place out! I will update this when I get the chance.
Amazing dinner with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I reserved a seat at the bar and could not be more happy with my choice. Had an awesome conversation with my server and everyone working behind the counter. Will have to visit again!
Better than lots of other highly rated places. The portion is a bit small considering the pricing and nothing is really exceeding the expectation in terms of flavor. Service was good and the elderflower soda was very nice.
Great experience! We could not get a table so we were sitting at the bar I was quite disappointed at first, but in the end, I think it was even better. Seeing how that team in the kitchen is efficient, calmly putting all these amazing dishes together. Not a single word needed to coordinate that choreography. It is humbling! The service was also perfect! Chill enough to make you feel at home, you won t feel that social pressure that I have experienced in the past in other Michelin-star level restaurants. I absolutely recommend!
We tried this place after hearing about it in Vancouver Michelin Stars. It didnt disappoint but perhaps the expectation were set too high. I, personally, dont count bread as one item on the set menu. The duck was prepared to perfection. I think the wine pairing could have been done better by adding one red wine and drop armagnac ( I dont like to mix)
Terrific food but SUPER rude server! So many instances, like when their card machine was malfunctioning and she got mad at us, huffing and puffing and acting like we were idiots and had never used a credit card before? Sadly, I ve used it plenty. It s like they gained a Michelin star and lost their freakin manners. Anyway kitchen killing it
Tasting menu dinner for $89/pp. Everything was consistently very good but there were no wow moments. The meal was a good presentation of the chefs vision -- it was very new nordic, showcasing local and seasonal produce with the addition of some asian influence. The service was perfect but was paced slightly too quickly (we are not slow eaters either!) -- for instance, while on the first course, we were served our second course. The food was also lighter than other fine dining restaurants with no subsequent butter coma or digestive consequence. As someone else also mentioned, the bread course should really not be considered a course for this price. For the price, its a bit odd to have add-on items in the $20-60 range to round out the meal -- would have preferred if the bread was an add-on and replaced with a salad course on the tasting menu. With this change and the addition of an amuse bouche and petit four would totally help justify the price.
I had a dinner here, and I enjoyed every dish. I was visiting Vancouver for fun, and unfortunately, I had food poisoning a bit after the day I ate here. I m NOT saying that this place gave me food poisoning. I did also eat at other places, and I came here through Korea, so I had also been traveling and eating random things before eating here. What I AM saying is that even IF this place gave me a bout of food poisoning, I enjoyed the food enough that I would still come back here So with all that said, I would say that all the food tasted fresh. I don t know how the chef designs the menus, but the slate I had seemed to have a lot of Asian influences, in the dish choice and flavor palette. I appreciated the creative twists.
Taste like a $15 congee but got charged $85+. Would not recommend to any friends
We ordered caviar, buratta, and their buttermilk fried chicken for appetizers before getting into the main tasting menu. The buratta was amazing. It was a little bit disappointing that their in restaurant menu wasn t the same as their online page. Just small nuances such as the appetizer was chicken vs rabbit and the flavours for the buratta, & the type of bread for the first course. They were still great but I was looking forward to the buttermilk fried rabbit! Other than that, the food was good. Nothing to complain about at all; subtle flavours, in season ingredients, and for someone who is not a fan of duck the duck was done perfectly.
An elevated degustation - incredible dining experience. Cocktails made to perfection - The duck, best Ive experienced - Highly attentive and warm staff. - Deserving of their Michelin rating Highly recommend Tip: Its small, seats 40. Book reservations in advance.
Did not meet expectations. The size of their cocktails are the size of shots; we mentioned an allergy to wine, and the waitress brought a drink she recommended that contained wine; duck was very chewy; we left still hungry, even after adding on a starter. Did not get what we paid for $$$!
What a disappointment! We got the tasting menu and the only good item was the bread. The wine selection is nonexistent, the duck wasn t cooked properly, even their signature butter fried chicken was a big disappointment. More than anything I m disappointed in Michelin for giving them a star.
I can see this place getting a 2nd Michelin star next year. Food - 4.75/5; dessert fell a bit short (simple and a bit too sweet) Ambiance - 5/5 such a classy place, and Service - very welcoming and friendly 5/5.
Food from the highest tier deity
The service was good but the food was just not at the level I expected. The only good dish was the congee. And the pastry part of the dessert. Also although the atmosphere ( lighting decor and seating) was nice the music was loud so the guests were yelling and I couldn t even hear the staff speaking. Nor could I communicate with my husband across the table. Sadly disappointed.
Tasting menu! Had to try out a Michelin star restaurant when in vancouver! What can I say, amazing, from the locally sourced dishes to the wine tasting menu, every dish and drink had history to it. Lots of yummy dishes! Only complaint, sat close to the front door, every time it was opened, very drafty and even when closed still drafty. Overall amazing experience, ps dont sit close to door in winter
Very unique and fresh dishes. Service was amazing.
Enjoyed a brilliant 5 course set tasting menu. The winter seasonal rotation spoke volumes from beginning to end with the 3rd Sunchoke dish being the highlight for both my best friend and I. The fusion of flavours for each feature and plating aesthetic were clearly indicative of a Michelin star dining experience not to mention the excellent attentive and descriptive service. Dim candlelit ambiance would make for a fantastic date destination. Highly recommended upscale dining experience.
