You wouldn’t believe it’s vegan! Remarkable food and service. We did the brunch chefs menu and enjoyed every dish! The portion size was great (half portions of 3 appetizers, 1 full entree, dessert), unlike what some have said here. We would visit again for sure
This place is what dreams are made of. The staff were excellent, it wasn't quiet in there and they spoke at a good volume to describe each dish/pairing and not rush through it. The wine pairing is worth it. The food is AMAZING and just so special. Each course was beautiful, fun, and each bite enhanced the experience. I had the opportunity to visit for dinner and brunch and dinner was the superior experience while brunch still had some high points. Love. 10/10
The best restaurant I've ever been to in my life. I've been here thrice now, tasting menu supper, tasting menu brunch, and a-la carte brunch. As a vegetarian, the Acorn is unparalleled, there's no other place I've been to that is even close. Their dishes are so creative, so unique, and just so damn tasty. Also, every ingredient is local and of extremely high quality. Honestly, if you're considering going, just go. If there and you're unsure what to order -- it doesn't matter too much, all the dishes are excellent!
AMAZING VEGAN FOOD. We had the mushroom dish, harvest and beet one with a plum dessert. All were amazing. The portions looked small but we shared and were stuffed. Harvest didn’t not match up the price and hype which was told to us by the server The dessert was impeccable and the beet dish was really out of this world, we enjoyed how the server explained each dish and gave us non alcoholic champagne for our anniversary. Overall the experience was we amazing and definitely we would recommend coming to here for a Michelin vegan restaurant experience!
I absolutely love The Acorn. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is warm and inviting, perfect for a cozy dinner or a special night out. The menu is creative and beautifully presented, offering a wide range of seasonal, locally-sourced vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Every dish feels like a work of art, bursting with flavor and texture. The service is top-notch, with knowledgeable staff who are genuinely passionate about the food and happy to accommodate dietary preferences. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or just curious about plant-based cuisine, The Acorn will exceed your expectations with its innovative approach to wholesome, delicious food. The cocktails are also outstanding, with unique, well-crafted drinks that pair perfectly with the dishes. Overall, The Acorn offers an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you eager to return.
Creative dishes, friendly staff, good selection, and a tasting menu! I’ve had the chance to eat at Acorn twice now, exclusively for the Brunch menu. I have yet to try dinner, and I defenetly will be trying it someday. It’s a great spot for a date for two or more, having gone both with my partner and a large group of friends. Each time we go we get the tasting menu, and are never disappointed with the food presented. The staff at The Acorn are incredibly friendly. They are very good at explaining dishes, being on time with food to the table. Always on top of refilling waters which is a huge plus for me. The waiters have also engaged in conversation with me a few times about movies that were in, which was also very cool. The food is delicious. I so far haven’t had a single bad bite while there, however my only problem is that the tasting menu does change from time to time, the first time we went there was a tempura broccoli and the waffles on the tasting menu, the second time there wasn’t either of those items on the tasting menu. I LOVE that they have many vegan and Gluten free items to choose from. It makes our lives so much easier. The Acorn is a great place to eat at and I highly recommend it. The seasonal changes to the menu always make for an exciting experience when you walk into the door!
Great elevated vegetarian/vegan food. Their tasting menu is $85 per person which I feel is reasonable. Wide variety of flavours and I really like that they try to highlight the flavours of the vegetables rather than make a bunch of meat substitutions. Service was quick and friendly and they really take the time to explain each dish to you. If you want to do the tasting menu I highly recommend making a reservation because the space is quite small.
I took a close friend who visited us from out of town to this restaurant. We had high expectations. I was embarrassed with the portion of the food. We ordered 4 tasting menus each cost $80. I found the price reasonable for fine dining, but the facts that we were not served individually and had to split already small portion plates made the experience very uncomfortable. For some reason, all dishes are very acidic and citrus based. They do taste unique and we do enjoy the food despite the tiny portion. The best food of the night was the pasta that was off the menu and specially made for our two young children, we were notified that we could only order up to two plates of pasta. We had to pour our own water sitting at a cramped corner table but still charged mandatory >20% gratuity with minimal service. The overall dining experience was not on par with other vegetarian Michelin restaurants that we have been to in the past. The fettuccine was dry and not cooked enough.
Incredible elevated tasting menu with about 10 dishes, each themed to be cohesive with the course. Amazing service and ambience, highly recommend
Came here for chef s tasting menu and genuinely surprised by the food. As entirely vegetarian, the dishes were delicious and even the kids loved the vegetables and worked well on them. The staff was amazing and ensured that everyone enjoyed the food. One of the items had blue cheese (an acquired taste) & they changed it to something else when we advised that blue cheese didn t go well with us. Wouldn t reveal the items as it takes the surprise out of tasting menu. Highly recommended.
I dined at The Acorn on December 14th and had an unforgettably NEGATIVE experience. It was the first day of the holiday tax break which eliminates the GST on restaurant dining. When the bill came, I noticed that there was a GST charge on the bill. I pointed it out to the server, but the server wasnt aware of the new tax break and didnt know how to assist me, so he brought over the manager. When the manager came over, she did not take a moment to talk to me to try to understand what the problem was. Instead, her first words when she arrived at the table was that there are many places in the world where you dont need to pay taxes on food. Unfortunately here, in this country, you need to pay taxes on that. I cant remove the tax. You will need to pay it. I could not believe my ears! As a local boy, born and raised in Canada, I was appalled that the manager would speak to me as if I was a foreigner and that she lectured me on why I needed to pay a tax on food in this country. Eventually, the tax was removed from my bill, but the manager never came back to apologize. Terrible customer service. Certainly not service I would expect from a Michelin award winning restaurant. I feel bad for all the other customers who unknowingly paid the GST without spotting it on their bill.
Amazing start to finish. The blue corn bread, beets, and squash dessert were my favorite.
My favorite restaurant in Vancouver is The Acorn. I tell everyone about it, even those who dont ask. I recently visited for their fall tasting menu and was once again impressed with the exceptional dishes and impeccable service. Kudos to the creative vegetarian cuisine that uses fresh and local ingredients. Ill be back!
We have been blown away EVERY time weve come here, absolutely do yourself the favour! The food is outstanding and the service is top notch
It was our first time at The Acorn and after being on our list of must tries for a while now we are so happy we finally were able to make it in! We had the tasting menu, my partner having the additional wine pairing (I had two of their non-alcoholic options, also very tasty), and you could taste the thought they put into each course. Everything built upon each other and were exceptionally well executed. A particular shout out to the Beet Carpaccio & the Feature Harvest Entree. We were told the entree changes every evening so we were lucky enough to enjoy Sous Chef Cody s Mushroom Toast. Our server Sarah was absolutely right, he knows how to make delicious comfort food. Service was fantastic. Sarah is an absolute gem, highly recommend. Perfect pairing.
First visit to The Acorn was booked weeks in advance , with notes on my partys dietary restrictions filled out so we could try the chefs tasting menu . We were looking forward to a new place and a personal celebration with something nicer than we usually go for . They had at least a week to phone me and discuss any concerns but waited until we arrived at the restaurant and said they cant do the tasting menu due to some restrictions . I dont know why they didnt call in advance , it really set a bad tone for the evening and made the restaurant look incompetent . The food was okay , the salad was incredibly bitter , and the specialty harvest carrot dish was the most expensive but also the smallest (not bad , though) . Having said all that , I loved the atmosphere in the restaurant . All the candles are so nice . I just still dont understand why the restaurant wouldnt want to have discussed the dietary issues ahead of time so everyone could have been prepared and happy instead of causing a lot of stress on a day when it wasnt needed . Will not be going back for multiple reasons , but this is the primary .
Outstanding vegan/vegetarian food! We had the chefs tasting menu and were so impressed with the creativity on display. All of the dishes used items that were seasonal and used the whole food. My favorite was the walla walla onions with magnolia oil, Ive never had onions that carried so much flavor. It was also only $85 CAD per person which feels incredibly reasonable for the service we got. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the dishes and were constantly checking in to make sure our experience was good. Definitely coming back!
The customer service is great here, you can see everyone truly focused on deliver their best, we have a small pepper incident, but everything went great, as a vegan cook this place was on my bucket list, tasting menu make you really full, Come prepared! Food
I enjoyed the evening spent here recently. Nice atmosphere. Great selection of vegan options. It might be my go-to choice for a fancy vegan dinner from no on. Tried Shiitake mushrooms and some other mushroom based dish. Both tasted great. The Chardonnay wine wasnt as good, tasting more like a cider, though.
Ive dined at Acorn twice, and both times I have been completely blown away by the quality of their dishes. There is so much flavour in every bite. Every dish is fresh and exciting. I cant wait to come back again. Lovely service as well. The cute little bird chirping in the restrooms is a nice touch :)
The servers were lovely, and seemed knowledgeable about all the dishes. The dishes themselves? Disgusting. They advertise as shareable dishes, but one of our 25 dollar dishes was literally a quarter of a beet, sliced extremely thinly, boiled and salted to hell and back. Our other two shareable dishes, were an incredibly salty and bitter salad, and a fistful of lettuce with some lentils in. Genuinely terrible food, and they charged me nearly a hundred dollars. We are still sitting in the car outside the best vegetarian restaurant in the world , deciding where we re going to go to eat our actual dinner. Don t go here, and if you do, leave a review to balance out the paid 5 star reviews they ve amassed. They re running a great scam in there.
Vancouver food scene is superb. The Acorn is easily one of my favorite spots. Whether you are a vegetarian or not, the food is flavorful and the service is top notch. Thank you Max for your very attentive service
I enjoyed the chefs tasting menu, Ten different items, sometimes served individually (like the small soup cup first course) and some times on a plate for 2 to share. Mixture of hot and cold courses, baked cheese cake for desert. My favourites were the mushrooms. The bread was really good too. Definitely book ahead, was full even on week night. Interesting soft drinks too like the home made ginger beer.
As a meat eater looking to try something new, I actually enjoyed this! We tried the chefs menu and werent disappointed. Id go back! Food : 4/5
Besides the good tasting food, i love their creativity. They use seasonal and not so common ingredients in some of their dishes. I am excited to go back to try their new creations.
Removing one star for the very disappointing servers attitude. She was friendly all night, but then was clearly not happy with our tip because she became extremely rude at the end of the night, basically grunting at us to get out of the restaurant. It was such a shame to learn she was only being pleasant to us to get a big tip. The attitude of being rude because I didnt give you enough additional, optional money is unbelievable. It definitely left a sour taste in our mouths (pun not intended). Regarding the food/experience: Ive been here a few times ordering a la carte and the food is always excellent. During my most recent visit I tried the tasting menu. All the food was great (prepared beautifully, unique flavour combinations, fresh ingredients), but some dishes were not our style so I would go back to a la carte next time. My previous review regarding the a la carte menu experience: The food here is AMAZING, but why is the menu so confusing? To me and my partner, it takes away some of the enjoyment of eating here. The menu just lists ingredients (most of which we have never heard of) and doesnt really explain what the dish is. We typically need a crash course from the server in describing each menu item before we can make any ordering decisions. Having said that, I feel that no matter what you choose you wont be disappointed, as the flavours in each dish are delightful. 4 items split between 2 people was enough. Kudos to the chefs but please consider making the menu more user friendly.
Every single aspect is incredible. Service, food, atmosphere, drink. Love this place, the creativity with vegetables is unmatched. Sauce game is mind blowing.
We had the Chef s Tasting Menu and it was outstanding! Soooo DELICIOUS!
Really good food made with purpose ! I loved that all the dishes were explained in depth, our mocktails were also super flavorful which I find hard to find usually ! Thanks for the amazing experience! We will be back
Amazing staff, exceptional food! New fav spot.
Ive been here once before and had great food, but tonights offerings just fell flat. I ordered the wild mushroom, but received a kind of weird mushy bread pudding, soaked in a thin vinegary sauce, with mushrooms on top. The mushrooms themselves were good, but the whole dish overall tasted odd and was of uniform texture. The presentation was basically a brown little hill with a couple leaves on it. I ordered a cocktail that sounded very interesting, called shapes of _____ (insert a Japanese word there). But I got a short glass of red liquid that tasted like weak cranberry juice, sweet with a faint aroma of rosemary or something. And the glass had more ice than drink. It simply wasnt worth serving. The tartar sauce for the halloumi was really nice, but overall the battered cheese was a bit like mozza sticks youd get at a pub. I admit the fact that I struggled to interpret the menu. It was a disappointing experience overall. Ill probably come back sometime, but I guess Ill have to ask more questions, and be prepared to complain if I think something isnt good. I didnt want to make a fuss because I was catching up with an old friend on his birthday. For what its worth, nobody asked how our food and drink was. If I had been asked, I would have said its kind of weird.
Vegetarian options: Good vegan chef tasting menu.Good quantity and good quality of food.Good and friendly service. Food
I just visited The Acorn for brunch and it was truly an EXCEPTIONAL experience all around and one of the best brunches Ive had. The team all around has excellent attention to detail and offer top of the line service. My carnivore boyfriend absolutely loved it as well. We will most definitely be back (and will be buying the cook book as well!)
At about $170/person (including tax and tip) for the tasting menu and wine pairing, it is not an experience I would recommend. The food started off quite tasty and unique for the first 2 courses, but then the final savory course (pasta) and the dessert were both awful to the point that we did not even bother finishing the small portions. In particular the pasta felt bland and undercooked. The restaurant was quite small, as were the tables, so it was a cramped experience. The good: The wine pairings were nice. The service and staff were also very nice.
After years of knowing about The Acorn, we finally tried it for the The Bella Brunch. Our family style menu was vegan accommodated. We enjoyed our intimate bar seats and loved the variety of the dishes we had in the set menu.
been here twice now, once on a whim when we couldnt find space at another restaurant, and then a second time for my boyfriends birthday! both times were great! i really align with their philosophy around 0 waste and local ingredients, as i am a forager myself. its great to learn about the food that grows around us as well!! when i came for my boyfriends birthday, we had the tasting menu with wine pairings and wow, what an experience!! vegetarian food does not mean bland!!!! every ingredient had unique flavours that complemented each other with each course. the portions for 5 of us were perfect too, we really ended up having a hard time finishing in the end!! the broth that we started with was phenomenal, and the little lettuce tacos were great too. its honestly hard to pick a favourite because everything was so flavourful and unique!! the wine pairings were incredible too, and everyone that served was was very knowledgeable and kind!! ill definitely be coming back again for when they have fall and winter menus. :) definitely come here if u want a unique high-end vegetarian experience that isnt snobby!
An absolutely stunning meal in a space that felt relaxed and perfectly curated - just like the food.
Whats cold pressed canola oil? Would be nice for a restaurant of this scale to also use some mindful oils, everything has canola oil. Portions are small, the mushrooms were soaked with oil, the zucchinis flavor was really good.
Everything I was hoping it would be, and more. Went for brunch, next time will be back for dinner. Food was fantastic as was the service.
Everything is good except pasta. Great service. Very respectable staff.
Given The Acorns hype, my husband and I made reservations for Sunday brunch. Despite arriving close to closing time, our server accommodated us with patience and expertise. The bustling atmosphere, creative menu, and lip-smacking recommendations (drinks, food, and dessert) impressed. Our servers knowledge and friendliness added to the experience. We cant wait to return for the chefs tasting menu. Book ahead, as this gem lives up to its reputation!
The Acorn, a renowned vegetarian fine-dining spot known for its set course menu and cocktail drinks, completely exceeded our expectations last night. Our experience was unique as we arrived after dinner, craving dessert but still had some appetite left. Despite arriving just 5 minutes before the kitchen s last call, we decided to explore the menu, and we re so glad we did. We ordered the Shiitake and Courgette dishes, and both came out beautifully presented truly a masterpiece in fine dining. The flavors were complex, showcasing a blend of special ingredients that made each bite a delight. The level of preparation was clearly extraordinary. Paired with the cocktail Sip of Summer, which was light, refreshing, and reminiscent of a tropical escape to Mexico, the meal became even more enjoyable. Our bartender, Jack, was simply one of the best we ve encountered. He kept us entertained throughout the evening with great conversation and recommendations, making us feel as though we had been regulars at The Acorn for years. His warmth and expertise elevated our experience in a way that left a lasting impression. For dessert, we indulged in the Summer Berries and Hazelnut, which quickly became one of my all-time favorites even outshining desserts we ve had at other Michelin-starred restaurants. As someone who usually craves meat and seafood, I was genuinely surprised by how much I loved the vegetarian dishes. This experience truly changed my mindset about plant-based fine dining, and we ll definitely be back for the full course menu experience. Thank you, Jack, and the entire team at The Acorn for making this such a fun and memorable experience. It s rare to find such a welcoming atmosphere, combined with exquisite food and drinks. Five stars all the way!
acorn s food was amazing, except for the pasta. the service was a bit interesting at first when they carded us for ID, and drinks were served a bit late into our set menu which i felt bad for asking the update on them. other than that, everything was solid. my partner was feeling very under the weather (not from the food) and the staff were very flexible to pack our leftover dishes and plate our final dessert. hoping to be back soon for a lunch when we re feeling better!
Spent this past Friday evening at The Acorn enjoying their pre set menu. I had been there once before in 2018 and it was amazing but this time stood out. The menu was perfectly curated with all sorts of in season veggies and flavours. Presentation was perfect and our server Carolina went over and above to explain all of our dishes and the wine pairings. 10/10 evening. I left feeling full and fulfilled.
Attentive service and true originality in the development and presentation of dishes. We attended a special Vive la Veg dinner devoted to showcasing the produce of this one farm, and heard from the farmers. To produce this level of deliciousness and quality in a zero-waste framework is truly extraordinary. I would also like to note that we found them just as talented when we came in January and tasted the dishes from that season, so its not just the summer or winter thats their strong suit. They are amazing regardless of the season. Vegetarian options: It is all vegetarian, so youre not getting served an afterthought, youre getting fine dining designed and prepared for you from the start. They will make it vegan or gluten free as well if you ask. There was very little dairy in our food as it was.
I was incredibly surprised with this place! I don t usually eat vegetarian food but heard so many amazing things, that I needed to try it out. First off, it sounded like they change their menu quite often so if you visit time and time again, you re always trying out something new. The food itself was super tasty, but what really got me was the presentation of each dish. I strongly recommend the tasting menu, as you ll go through some of their most famous dishes while also trying new menu options (all for a very reasonable price).
Amazing place !! Amazing food !!
From the moment we walked into this lovely space we enjoyed ourselves. We had the chef tasting menu. I would highly recommend that because then you get a little taste of so many different dishes. And it s all a surprise you don t know what you re gonna get but it s all ridiculously delicious. Sometimes when you go to these vegetarian restaurants, you leave hungry and go get a veggie burger. That is not the case here the food is so abundant. Every course is incredibly creative and tasty, created with local Vegetables and herbs. The level of complexity in each of the courses was incredible. We loved absolutely everything that was served to us. Interesting cocktails delicious wine. Would highly recommend this place.
Dietary restrictions: They are mostly if not an entirely vegan establishment, and would easily work to accommodate special restrictions where possible. Parking: Street parking isnt too bad to find, and depending on when you go it might be free, its cheap otherwise. There might be a parking lot nearby but I wasnt able to confim. Wheelchair accessibility: Its a little smaller inside but entryway was mostly accessible and I could imagine a couple of tables accommodating accessibility needs, the restrooms were decent single occupant design also.
The food is absolutely delicious, they have amazing staff, and a super cute space. I love them!
Had the tasting menu. Most dishes were great but there were a few misses as well. Overall great experience and is probably the best vegetarian restaurant Ive been to in Vancouver
My fav restaurant in the city!
Good inspiring place with so much flavour and vegetarian food that is more filling than a salad. A little bit more filling might be nice though. We liked the hazelnut dish although it seemed a little bit like a dessert. Also tried the trees ice cream dessert today but it wasnt as good as expected especially with Michelin; would have been nice if it was vegan, cookie was more interesting and softer and if ice cream way more full of the tree flavours mentioned
This must be a place where non-vegetarians come. The food is very greasy and the frying technique is not good. The sauces on all dishes are designed to cover up the flavor of the vegetables themselves. Either too oily, too salty, or too sweet... It felt like the chef didnt understand the flavor of vegetables and plants at all, and he didnt have much cooking techniques or experience. Unable to master basic frying techniques, the flavors of all the sauces are uncoordinated, and they lack the basic temperature and aroma... Not sure if the chef has changed or if the situation is not very stable recently... Its more like a place where young people come to drink local drinks and enjoy the atmosphere, but it wont be the turbid and chaotic flavor that vegetarians will enjoy. In addition, the chefs special menu is very expensive and has no value at all...because there is almost no clue about the order and theme of the dishes from beginning to end...and the more you eat, the more you eat...I cant take photos. . . I was also very surprised by the service. There was a girl with short hair and glasses who was very arrogant and rude. But another female waiter with long hair tied in a ponytail was professional and enthusiastic. Fortunately, she was able to balance it. The only interesting thing about the restaurant is the emphasis on local drinks, from wine to beer and non-alcoholic drinks. It can only be said that the Michelin Guide really only looks at the concept, but does not pay attention to the flavor and the value of the food itself... Its a pity. The concept is right, but the essence is empty. Vegetarian options: Not a place where vegetarians would come to eat .
A friend mentioned this place winning am international award in 2019 for their vegan food and I can see why. I love tasting menus and this one was the best Ive had yet. Great service on top of it. Cant wait to come back next time were in Vancouver. Vegetarian options: Amazing vegan food. The vegetarian food looked amazing as well.
We came to celebrate our anniversary with a unique vegan dining experience and we were very happy with the food and service. I really appreciate all the servers taking the time to explain each dish. We did the chef s tasting menu, a really fun experience trying so many new things :) thank you!
Disappointing on my birthday!!
Best vegetarian restaurant in Vancouver by far! I love the innovative dishes that are on offer, made up from fresh, local and seasonal produce. Highly recommend to anyone.
Unforgettable brunch experience! This is how vegetarian/vegan food should be done - tasty, creative, yet still affordable: every mouthful was a joy! We are so pleased we managed to visit during a short stay in Vancouver, and it really was the best vegan food we have ever had. We cant imagine anyone would be disappointed. Every plate was beautiful and done to perfection - and the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. The only shame is that a 9 hour flight separates us from this amazing place. We really hope we can visit again.
A prefect place to be an episode in Gordon Ramsey series!
Most tasting menus overly rely on flashy wagyu, foie gras, and caviar courses. Instead, Acorn impresses with beautiful local produce of the season. The highlight for me was the spruce ice cream sandwich and pine cone caramel at the end!
The testing menu was very good except for one meal that was not too flavorful. But overall amazing flavours. The service was very good
The food was delicious, service was great, vibes on point but the portion sizes were small and we left hungry.. we ended up going to grab food somewhere else before our show because we weren t satisfied yet. We did the chef tasting menu for 2 and with 2 drinks and tip it was a $200 bill, so to not be full after that amount of money was disappointing!
My favourite vegetarian restaurant in Vancouver.
What an amazing experience! Leah and the rest of the staff were so accommodating and warm. We had the chef s tasting menu and the dishes were fun and creative. Between all of the courses it is VERY filling. Note if one person is vegan the tasting menu will be vegan for everyone in the party. Can t wait to go back next time we are in Vancouver.
We had the tasting menu last night and were absolutely impressed with everything we tasted, the exceptional service and the great atmosphere. I wanted to tell passersby to come in and try this food. It s that good!! Vegetarian options: All vegetarian and so very delicious!
We did the chefs tasting menu and it was very good. 7-8 courses with dessert. The atmosphere was lovely. Very cozy and inviting establishment. Creative dishes. A great place a date or just a casual bite. Vegetarian options: Everything is vegetarian
We had the chef s tasting menu with drink pairings. Everything is wonderful from the service to taste and presentation. The ambiance is relaxing and chic. I m vegetarian but husband is not and we both enjoyed the dining experience. We appreciate the Acorn team s dedication to serving us the amazing meal that is fresh, nicely seasoned and beautifully plated. The wine pairing is from local vineyards and the non alcoholic pairing / mocktails are really well done! We will come back again to try the remaining seasonal menu items and brunch.
This is a fantastic little gem, well a sizable gem in the Vancouver vegetarian scene. I truly think their pancakes are some of the best I ve had.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly and top notch service, and incredible food.
The food is always amazing. Love the farm to table concept.
Great restaurant. Food was amazing and service too. A bit out of the cbd but worth the visit.
This is hands down my favourite restaurant in Vancouver! It has become our go to place for celebrations as their tasting menu always impresses and it s hard to find good vegetarian tasting menus. Every time we go, there s always something new to try both with the food and cocktails. It s a beautiful spot with friendly staff and we ve always had a good experience here. Cannot recommend it enough! :) Vegetarian options: It s a vegetarian restaurant so it s all vegetarian. Please let them know if you need vegan options and they will accommodate
Good unique experience. No takeout and no air conditioning!
Their chef s menu was absolutely delicious and combined so many great flavors! A real vegetarian treat!
Lovely atmosphere everything but we found the food bland. 4 dishes of the chefs menu were basically salads. Ingredients were top notch, Beautiful presentation but lacking flavor and texture. I went with a non veg and while we left full, we had the distinct feeling that we wished we had gone elsewhere.
This is an okay restaurant. For a Michelin Star restaurant I expected way more. The 5 course meal had one flavor profile: vinegar. Nothing was terribly exciting. The bread was burnt and honestly not the best execution. It was dense and the crust was off. Ive had better from the grocery store. The flavors from course to course werent good. Just poor execution that literally left a bad taste in my mouth.
There is nothing more to say other than 5 stars is too low of a rating for this restaurant. Amazing personal service and great food that makes you feel really bad if you are full Vegetarian options: Many vegan choices Dietary restrictions: They accommodate everything
Dining at the Acorn restaurant was an incredible culinary experience. Probably one of the best in my life. The flavors are both complex and satisfying. There is an innovative, unique side to each dish (texture, taste). In short, it was delicious. The service was equally exceptional. We were served by several people, but Alex mainly took care of us. Her sense of hospitality, professionalism, dynamism, kindness, and eagerness to help made our evening even more delightful. We seamlessly switched between French and English (her French is impeccable). Congratulations to the whole team and thank you, it was wonderful. A highlight of our stay in Vancouver, for sure.
I took my daughter, who is vegan, for a nice birthday celebration. We chose the tasting menu and were quite happy we did. It would have been hard to choose dishes as there were so many to try! Great service!
Innovative vegan food, great place for a brunch.
Brilliant time. Alex was my server and she was so kind and gracious. I truly appreciate the experience I received tonight. I did the chefs tasting menu and it was an amazing experience from beginning to end. 10 vegan courses. The best non alcoholic drinks I ve had since going sober 11 years ago. Every dish was delicious and beautiful. Will absolutely be coming back next time I am in town.
wonderful place with a stunning vegan tasting menu at a great price. Just a little loud due to the building structure but when we mentioned our sensitivity to sound to the server they found us the quietest corner possible.
Phoebe and staff are exceptional as is the food. Quality of ingredients to presentation were top notch. I highly recommend The Acorn! Dietary restrictions: I m gluten free and was easy to eat
Vegetarian options: Delicious Vegetarian Tasting Menu Food
vegetarian culinary excellence. the chefs tasting menu is fun and delicious, with attentive and welcoming service creates a fantastic dining experience. This is our go-to for special occasions as The Acorn never misses!
A full vegetarian menu with a cost ambience to it - loved this place We went for the chef selected menu that comes with about 3 starters, 2 main courses and a dessert. Shared it family style, and every single dish is made to perfection. Some favorites were the oyster mushrooms and the crispy potatoes. A great place for a date night or celebration.
Excellent. A must-try for vegetarians. We have tried many vegan/vegetarian fine-dining establishments, but they truly pale in comparison to this gourmet experience. The chef s tasting menu is remarkable.
The food was great but the best part was their service. They went above and beyond to celebrate my partners birthday.
Tldr: appetizers were great, but the bigger plates tend to fall short in terms of flavor and expectations. After the meal, I really wanted a burger. ** Apr 30th, 2024: Service started off great, but once another server took over, the experience felt more rushed and muted (along with the lack of attention) unlike the previous server. Food also started off great, but then fell short towards the end of the meal. All the appetizer-sized dishes were interesting, flavorful, and tasty. However, after the cold noodle (wild greens) dish (which included the Cabbage, and harvest), I found did not live up to the expectations. Although the wild green noodles were chewy and had a great texture, it really lacked additional textures necessary...something like a soy sauce egg, or heck a burdock tempura. The Cabbage dish felt like an afterthought, and lacked any creativity. The Cabbage was stringy, and not completely cooked through. The dish also was missing that smoked element, that one could easily achieve from using crispy bacon or pancetta. As for the harvest....it was a disaster. It felt like a compilation of expensive produce, thrown in this lukewarm Buttermilk sauce that was overly heavy and lacked any cohesion. Also the mushroomed were an oil-bomb; it has soaked up the fryer oil. Some highlights were however the mint vinegar and butter served with bread (also very good), and the eikhorn dumplings were really balanced and the black garlic/onion sauce was super tasty. Definitely, a restaurant to try, but sadly not to recommend or repeat.
Fab food and service
We got the chefs menu and it was a great experience. There were a lot of dishes which kept coming for close to 2 hours. The atmosphere was great and the staff would bring the food and explain it to you. Taste wise i think the food was very unique and different than what you would get anywhere else. Having said that i would recommend this place as an one time experience. Its pretty expensive and make sure to make a reservation well in advance.
Food was superb. Mushroom dish was our favorite. Peach desert was very good. Wonderful mix of flavors and ingredients. We wish we had gotten a cocktail as they were a work of art. Highly recommended.
Stunning experience. Highly recommend the tasting menu.
Such a cute spot for brunch! Lovely food and presentation. I started with a tequila Caesar and it was so good! I opted for the mushroom and loved it. The crispy oyster mushrooms were so tasty and I loved the sauces. Pricier than expected ($23) but the flavors were on point.
First off, I want to say the service was excellent. However the biggest issue this place has are the abysmally small portions of everything. Youre meant to order 4 to 5 items for a pair of people, which we did, and we were still hungry after. Not only do they give you a small amount of items in each dish (like 4 items to split 2 each for example), but they also make those portions incredibly tiny. When I say tiny, I dont mean in a good fine dining way - they are just unfulfilling, unsatisfying. We also ordered the closest thing they had to an entree, and in the end it was just bland, buttered noodles. And of course, not even that large - the price? $29 for this. Any other restaurant, even a fine dining one, would give you more for that price, or at least more value. I really wanted to like this place, and there were a lot of good ideas here on the menu. But the idea of sharing food here is absurd. You would have to order 4-5 items EACH, so basically double what we did, to get value, and at that point youre entering into $150 territory for a meal that wont even leave you feeling full. I appreciate the idea here, for local, sustainable, zero waste. Im not sure if thats why the price to portion ratio is so lopsided, and their profit margins are really that bad, but I have zero desire to return here as no dish warranted the sticker price. If you got money to burn, then burn it here I guess.
I cannot recommend this place enough! My friends and I made reservations for the tasting menu ($80 each before tax and tip) and although pricey, it was so worth it! We left very full and got to try so many different dishes. Everything was vegan but that was per our reservation. Our servers were so nice and knowledgeable. Ended up spending 3 hours there and can t wait to do it again for the next special occasion. Bathrooms are non gendered and individual rooms
The chefs menu was a delight. It was a fascinating experience to see all the seasonal blossoms like flowering currant, magnolia and maple used to high light spring .I asked for a tequila-based cocktail to highlight the season and was delivered a delicious margarita featuring flowering currant and lavender salt.
Amazing 6 course meal and for a decent price. I am typically a meat eater, but this vegetarian restaurant really really made me consider being a vegetarian. So many flavors, it was insane!! I cant pick a favorite. Also, by the end of it I was ssoooo full.
Easily one of our top 3 favourite vegan restaurants in all of the Lower Mainland cozy and lively all in the same breath. We never feel empty after we leave. The cocktails are also top drawer on their drink menu. The staff REALLY KNOW their menu also. As long as they are open we will continue to make the pilgrimage from Burquitlam. Kind regards Jason Billey
Nice food
phenomenal food, gorgeous ambiance, excellent service. The flavours were surprising and unique; we were surprised with each course. We left satiated. Obsessed with the broth!
Thank you Acorn for a lovely lunch!! I think you became our teenager s new favourite restaurant!! The food and service was amazing. We will be back.
Obviously if youre a vegetarian then this is the best restaurant in Vancouver. you can get a multicourse meal made with fresh local ingredients. Its an experience you cant really get anywhere else in the city. They can cater to vegan dietary restrictions. For a date night its unbeatable, and every time they hold a special event its something you cant miss. I would talk about sepcifics from the menu but it changes seasonally so anything you eat there you will probably never eat again and you probably havent had anything quite like it before. 100% would reccomend.
It was so exciting to go to a vegetarian fine dining restaurant. Literally everything was so good (we ate through the dine out menu). Still dreaming about their smoky mushrooms! I would eat here more often if not for the price tag (but I totally get why the price tag!).
Such rich and complex flavors! The service and ambience were perfect, too. A must for vegetarians and a must-try for non-vegetarians!
I wanted to try this one for so long! First time we visited for lunch - I chose pancakes. As I really don t like mint, I asked for just maple syrup, which they said is totally fine. They came to say the chef has made a mistake and did the pancake as regular. They were really pushing me to take this one instead of remaking it. As everyone deserves another change I decided to do a full experience. I made a reservation for birthday dinner with chefs tasting menu. Unfortunately, it wasn t our best experience. Here s why: -tables are pretty close to each other, if you re less lucky you may even end up with a table in the walkway -service is nice but also lacking listening to people s needs : we couldn t find anything in the menu from drinks, we asked if we can get something outside of that menu. Positive. We asked for some sweet vodka based cocktail. Guess what we got, ginger cocktail that was on the menu under moctails. It was nothing sweet. Disappointing -The food was okay, but very sour and really small portions. I got some discomfort in my throat as well as stomachache after that experience. Sadly, we will not be back. There s a lot of better restaurants for the money.
Tasting menu was 13 very good dishes! Nothing was really overly spectacular, but all very good. Warm and inviting servers, quiet atmosphere, interesting menu.
Amazing food by talented chefs. Seasonal dishes and zero waste kitchen practices. Happy food! Fried oyster mushroom on waffle slaps Vegetarian options: Vegan, vegetarian
Came here for the dine-out experience. Service and atmosphere is fine, but nothing particularly spectacular. Very disappointed with the food. Overly salty dishes. Their high prices were not justified by the subpar flavor of food. Not recommended.
Came for Dine Out. Very reasonable price for the portion size. Incredible service. Very impressed.
I was pretty excited to eat here since everyone raves about it. However, it turned out to be a disappointing experience for me. I came for brunch, started off with asking for a basic latte but they only do drip coffee. It was cold and super bitter. I dont understand why a top-notch place like this doesnt have an espresso machine. The food however was only mediocre. Definitely not returning.
The most amazing experience ~ ~ Vibrant colors, dancing flavors on my palette, I loved the ambiance, music , washroom bird sing song ...I am from Winnipeg, visiting my daughter celebrating my birthday! Thank you for a beautiful evening Food
A vegan friendly restaurant. I am satisfied with their food and service.
Every year we come to Acorn as the restaurant of choice for my sister s Christmas gift. This year it happened to be during Dine Out Vancouver. My sister is vegan and she told our wonderful, friendly server Leah. We also said that the other three were not. Leah said that they could easily accommodate the four of us with a substitution of one of the dishes plus as the dishes were served as two servings shared and there were two with cheese she could have the cheese on the side. She said she liked to leave the menu so diners could follow along with the multi course servings so they knew what they were eating. Everything was lovely. The food was delicious. At one point we noticed the table next to us had a modified version of one of our items but didn t think much about it. When it came to dessert we were served 4 peach sorbets. On the menu it had stated a meringue with custard. Two of us, one being my sister, the vegan, are allergic to peach and let Leah know. She said she would look for a substitution. We said, as per the menu, we were expecting the meringue for three of us. Leah left the peach desserts and said she would see if there was a substitution for the two with allergies. Another server came with two kiwi sorbets. She had a very stern look on her face. When I asked why the three of us couldn t have the meringue as per the menu she became extremely rude and abrupt. She said that they were serving a family style meal. That this was stated on the menu. I said I didn t see this on the menu. On the menu it said they could provide vegan or gluten free options if requested. She told me it was clearly stated on the website. I said I hadn t read their website. She said, Well you should as it is well written and informative . WOW we were all shocked. All of us work in customer service and none of us have EVER been addressed in such a rude manner in particular in circumstances like we were in. Her name is Karolina and even as I write this her attitude still lingers with me. The restaurant s rules were not clear. Our server Leah while being so sweet and accommodating was not clear as we understood she was just substituting one dish and putting the non vegan cheese on the side that turned out to be add ons on our bill. Anyway long review I know but just want to make others know their policy so they don t get treated in such a rude way at Acorn. Will I go back. NEVER AGAIN. It has left such a terrible impression and experience after what was supposed to be a lovely memorable occasion. Lastly, I went and read the website. It is well done but I didn t see anything that described our circumstances even under the FAQ.
My husband made reservation for my birthday dinner. First impression ambience is not great and we requested for change of seating which the waitress didn t accommodate. We tried the tasting menu without wine. Course 1 and course 2 were absolutely delicious! Course 3 was OK Ok, I didn t like the Leek ash Cavatelli pasta dish and chicory salad. Dessert was great, but very small portions. Rose meringue was baked to perfection with citrus leaf custard. I got birthday dessert, peach Sorbet with some crispy crumble and sweet sauce! I would say most of the dishes were delectable and perfect! Food is must try for vegetarians!!
A friend and I visited during Dine Out 2024 to experience the tasting menu. My friend got stuck in transit and was almost 30 minutes late but they did seat me and take my drink order while I waited. They had to start bringing the food out before she arrived because of the way their kitchen operates. A few different servers came by our table throughout the night and everyone was very warm and professional. The timing of each course (after my friend arrived) was right on. Their dine out menu is $65/pp and mostly vegan, with just a few dairy dishes. A very similar all-vegan menu is available at no cost, as is a gluten-free menu . A few dishes had the option to add cheese for a small fee. Our vegan meal was served over 4 courses and included: Sourdough: Hearty toasted sourdough with a side vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was tasteless to me but the bread was amazing on its own. Squash: Shredded squash salad with hazelnuts, cilantro, and dried fruit, with hoisin sauce on the side to mix in. I loved the savoury-sweet combination with a hint of spice and pops of flavour from the swirls of hoisin. My favourite cold dish of the night. Sunchoke: Another nice sweet and savoury dish with crisp sunchoke in a slightly charred dressing, topped with berries. Shiitake: Tender shiitake mushrooms over a rich squash puree. I loved the flavour of the sauce with the subtle seaweed undertone from the kelp. Beet: Beet carpaccio with sauerkraut and fermented horseradish. I love fermented foods so I was a fan of this. Chicory: Braised endive dressed with elderflower, apple, and hazelnut. I liked the cooked endive but the raw elements of this dish just tasted raw and plain. This was my least favourite. Tomato: Cavatelli coloured black using leek ash in fermented tomato sauce. The black colour was inspired by squid ink pasta. The pasta was perfectly al dente. Pasta in tomato sauce is by no means an original idea but this was just a little different in subtle ways, and it was definitely my favourite dish of the night. Peach: For dessert, sorbet with spruce tip shortbread crumble. The piney and salty shortbread complimented the peach very well. Not as experimental as the savoury dishes, but still a delicious ending. You can add a wine pairing for each course for $30, We opted out of this because I didnt want to drink (and just dont like wine enough to add $30 to an already expensive meal). I got the nonalcoholic Lavanda Fizz mocktail instead, which was okay but a little weak on the lavender. lAt this price, I expected everything to be sublime, but I thought a few things were a little unpolished (as noted above, and my friend and I both would have liked one more hot dish in the mix). There were a few dishes that did wow me though, and I really enjoyed the experimental concept with the chance to try some uncommon foods. I dont regret shelling out the money once, but Im undecided if Id want to return, and if I did, Id definitely want to order a la carte rather than do the regular $79 tasting menu, or maybe try brunch instead of dinner.
Delicious set menu for Dine Out Vancouver. I especially enjoyed the dessert.
Went there for dine out Vancouver. Great food.
I had the most amazing vegetarian brunch a few weeks ago at The Acorn. I had the Chefs Brunch Menu. Everything was delicious. For someone like me whos not vegetarian and someone who is picky with vegetables, I loved the food. I would definitely go back. Service was friendly and attentive as well. Highly recommend!
Food - vegetarian can sometimes be very tricky to pull off. However, these guys know what they re doing. There shiitake mushroom plate is something that I will have dreams about. It was so delicious. The only thing that wasn t amazing was the dessert. I had the pair one, it was OK, but the cake was a little bit dry. Service - The servers were wonderful, and everyone did a fantastic job, explaining the items on the dishes that were presented. Ambiance - I enjoy the ambience a cool, rustic vibe with nice casual lighting. Bathrooms - The bathrooms were clean and they had a soundtrack of birds chirping. Which at first made me laugh but it s kind of cool. I enjoyed it. Other - there is a dip in the center of the mushroom pate plate. I don t know what that dip is but I want it in a bottle and I want to eat it all the time. So good.
The Acorn was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the hospitality was unmatched. They also explain what each dish is in detail once it comes to your table which is fantastic.
Such a great place! Rotating daily special and chefs menu options. Great service, knowledgeable friendly staff, reasonable prices. Roasted potatoes were some of the best Ive had. Mushroom and waffles was fab. Great texture in the deep fried oysters. The sourdough toast is a little heavy being fried, but delicious. Also nice to see them carry Walts vegan clamato juice. Being able to enjoy a proper at a vegan-centric place is always a treat.
The food was exceptional, comforting and tasty. Its a very nice, small restaurant. I loved the vibes. And the servers were absolutely lovely! I had the tasting menu but I would love to go back and try A la carte. Vegetarian options: Its vegetarian
Two words: Chefs Menu. INCREDIBLE Vegetarian options: Chefs Menu: all vegan and gluten free, no problem. Extraordinary experience. Food : 5/5 |
Lovely dinner! The tasting menu is creative and delicious. Highly recommend for inventive produce-forward dishes. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian restaurant with many dishes vegan or with a vegan option
Worth it!!
Their food and vibe are amazing. I had a mushroom with waffle dish from their brunch menu. It was very creative and tasted good. Ive been there a few times, but I had poor customer service at my last visit. Except that experience, overall good.
This was THE BEST MEAL I HAVE EVER EATEN!!!! I do not say this lightly. I became a vegetarian in 1991 in a country that wasn t known for its acceptance of that sort of thing . I was diagnosed with Coeliac disorder 14 years ago. Going out to dine is a nightmare sometimes as people are not able to always cater for my dietary needs. I was blown away last night. So was my daughter. I live in England which is quite far away, which makes me sad because I miss my family and now I know that I am missing out on THE BEST FOOD EVER. The staff were all amazing! Our server was SO good ..they all were, but she shared my passion for the shiitake mushroom dish. I will be back. I LOVE this place. The mocktails were incredible. I had the ginger beer which is not sweet, but perfect! Vegetarian options: All vegetarian options. No dead animals in this place! Dietary restrictions: My coeliac disease was not an issue. I felt so safe. I can say that for good reason, because today I feel great.
The Acorn and Avelo in Toronto are the best veggie/vegan fine dining restaurants in Canada. Come with your bellies empty, because it is A LOT of GREAT FOOD!
Vegetarian options: All vegetarian Food
Overall, the food was uncreative and underwhelming and definitely not worth the price. Mushroom pate was bland and had an odd geleé on the top that wasnt tasty. The pate was paired with dill chips which were unevenly seasoned (some super salty and others no seasoning), and overpowered the pate so you couldnt taste it at all. It was also served with some pickles and mayo that did not add to the dish. The presentation was also poor. I would recommend that the dish be served with some sliced bread instead of chips. Chicory salad was also bland. The chicory was soggy and underseasoned. While this was the featured ingredient, the majority of the dish was just sliced endives, and a bit of celery and apple. There wasnt anything unique about the preparation - just a salad with little flavor. The crunchy hazelnut topping was the best thing on the plate. Shiitake mushroom was good but nothing special. Just grilled mushroom. There were some diced squash at the bottom which was also fine but just squash - nothing unique about the seasoning or preparation, a low skilled home cook could make it. There was a green ginger oil on top but I couldnt taste any ginger flavor. The dish was fine but it was literally just diced squash with mushrooms on top, no interesting preparation, flavour, etc. The ambience is nice and the service was good, but the food just isnt anything special.
Tasty vegetarian food with surprising flavors and uncommon ingredients. Vegetarian options: All vegetarian but also cater to various other dietary restrictions Food : 5/5 |
Easily one of the best Vegetarian Restaurants in the city. You can tell with each bite that every dish is carefully crafted, the flavours and textures take you on a worldwide journey through local ingredients. I love that everything is extremely fresh, you can taste every herb, spice and ingredients present. Great service and a cozy space. If you re in the city for a short period of time and want an upscale, stylish and a great vegetarian dining experience Acorn should be on your list!
Vegetarian options: Everything is vegetarian , and there are a lot of vegan options Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free will easily find a lot of options here
Had a wonderful time at the Acorn with my family. We are not vegetarian and are unfamiliar with the menu, so we asked for the brunch tasting menu and trusted them with the choices. Each dish was delicious, each with its own interesting colour and texture. Their choice of plates and bowls were also fun to look at. As first timers, their explanation of every dish was helpful to us. Their take on an aperol spritz was also delicious and I would recommend it to anyone there for brunch. For food, I would recommend the squash tempura if you catch it. Its perfectly done.
Was an amazing experience, food and drinks were ureal! Phoebe was our waitress and she was awesome!
Phoebe is the best
Disappointing, especially for the price. None of the dishes were extremely delicious or memorable. They use a lot of salt or salty ingredients! Appreciate the vision, but I wouldnt go back.
Just went for the first time during Vancouver dine out Mo. Thought the staff at acorn or phenomenal with their service, food was fantastic. The carrot dish, and the beet dish were to die for. Will be back here soon.
Very very good chefs tasting menu, well worth the trip
Amazing flavours in each dish! Tasting menu was priced fairly well although the price of the cocktail was a bit steep. I m not a fan of cucumbers but the way it prepared as part of the tasting menu was delicious! My favorite dish was the shiitake mushroom servers were attentive and friendly If not for the excessively loud table sitting beside me, I d give a few more stars for atmosphere. Overall, a great place to try a tasting menu where veggies and alternative proteins are the stars!
Dont let the outside confuse you, once youre inside, the smells and the atmosphere let you know youre in a whole new whole world. The service and food are impeccable. My favorite delight was the slow roasted mushrooms. Go for the tasting so you can try several dishes.
I cannot say enough good things about Acorn. The food is so very good, that the service and atmosphere (which are also very good) almost dont matter. They are a vegetarian, sustainable, no-waste restaurant featuring the most innovative creations and takes on meat dishes such as shrimp and grits, raw oysters, and chicken and waffles. And the best part - their vegetarian innovations taste better than their meat counter-parts. They were mentioned in the Michelin guide, and I wont be surprised if they are awarded a star soon. They deserve it.
Dinner was delicious. Had the chefs tasting. Some things we liked more than others, as to be expected. Service was excellent. Definitely recommended.
Dinner or breakfast, this magical spot has offers THE best culinary experience in Vancouver. And its vegetarian!
Decent vegetarian food which can be enjoyed even if youre not vegetarian. They have a very spicy Caesar which held its taste even after the ice melted.
We were a party of three and one member was vegan. As a result, everyone had to eat a vegan meal. If we had known that in advance, we wouldn t have gone. We told our server that the other members could eat cheese, and she told us that everyone had to eat the same thing. Then she told us that almost all the dishes that evening were vegan anyway. We could see people at the table next to us eating meals with cheese and egg! Also, they didn t wash the lettuce on the lettuce wraps. There were bugs in the lettuce. Servers were friendly, but the food was not great. It was a disappointing experience.
I m writing this because I don t want someone to be this disappointed with such a big price tag. While the atmosphere and waitstaff were great, the food is absolutely meh. They table next to us we overheard i didn t enjoy any of that and unfortunately that was our experience too. It s possible the chef had an off night and I was looking forward to this meal so much. I m trying my best not to compare this Michelin guide to the Michelin star, Eleven Madison Park. But with the wine pairing, dinner, and tip this meal cost us just over $300USD and sitting through it was an uphill climb.
This place is a happy restaurant with happy staff and happy customers enjoying top notch (Michelin starred) vegetarian cuisine Vegetarian options: They currently have a lavish vegetarian tasting menu.
Im not vegan. Had the tasting menu and it was some of the best food Ive ever had. Delicious doesnt even begin to describe it!
We went here with great expectations due to the word of the concierge s along with local reviews. Admittedly, we came in a little past our reservation time. We told them we could take any future reservation time they would like, and they set us at the next reservation time available. The service was OK, the food was subpar to our expectations. was really thrown off about them not having any type of latte (or even coffee ?) to be served. Just in general, had higher expectations, and came away disappointed. The vibe was off for us from the Resturant , the staff did not seem all that friendly and welcoming. Could have been a random occurrence and hoping that was it.
I was really expecting a meal here because I have read all the reviews. The tomatoes salad was a star and our favourites. The grilled harvest (grilled selected vegetables) was disappointing, the sauce too creamy and heavy, also over sour for this dish. The Vietnamese banh mi pate was suprising, because it is more like a wrap than a banh mi. So this one was confusing.
The food was unreal. We had the tomato dish, the kohlrabi (both were exceptional) and the corn mushroom pasta and blueberry desert.. The corn mushroom pasta was not as good as the rest of the food, by a decent margin. It was well done, but I feel like the mushroom flavors of the chantrelles and porchini were very subtle and masked by the blueberry which was dissapointing it needed some more contrast and sharper highlights to the flavours in my opinion. Still a very good dish but not on the same level as the other three we tried. The blueberry desert was the highlight of the meal.
Made reservation for a birthday dinner and was forced into the family style tasting menu. 3 persons on a tasting portion for $79 each?! No comp champagne that other tables received. No acknowledgment of special day - why ask when booking then? Courses too salty, repetitive with ingredients, and servers flippant affect was annoying. Should have read previous reviews before going. Wrote privately to management afterwards with no response. With 3 people, the course portions should have been larger or a second dish per course. We watched other tables split each plate between two. Our 3rd person shouldnt have paid. The whole evening was ridiculous. It was embarrassing to portion every dish into three and serve the others a tablespoon of food and then to be disappointed. Back to the Botanist for a do over for the birthday girl. Dietary restrictions: They asked and then would not deliver as all sauces include garlic/onions, and with the tasting menu pushed on reservations, they will not prepare a fresh dish without.
We went to the bus place with very high expectations and it did deliver. We tried a few things, the halloumi, legume lettuce tacos I guess and a tomato salad. We tried a very unique dessert, where the case was made of some grass and thistle. The ingredients are all unique, have you eaten a green blueberry before? It was all very experimental for us and we enjoyed our experience. We really appreciate the philosophy of this restaurant as they want minimize food waste which is a big concern even for me. Going to this restaurant was like going to a show, it s a whole dining experience. The staff explains the idea of the restaurant and the chef, it s a small place so go early to get your table! This is an expensive affair!
Great service and exceptional food. Had the potatoes and the pancake from the brunch menu and they both had incredible texture and taste.
Very great spot for brunch. The servers were all good
Food is good, but the service is terrible. The server was very rude.
Wonderful service, great atmosphere, affordable prices. Locally sourced produce, prepared exquisitely and properly seasoned. Highly recommend the pre fixe menu! Food
Very good and best service
My husband and I have made a tradition of visiting The Acorn on our wedding anniversary. It s an elevated dining experience that truly compares to none. I m plant-based while my husband eats meat and we leave every visit in agreement that it was the best meal we ve ever had. The Acorn uses fresh produce in a way you could never imagine, leaving the diner inspired and satisfied. Can t recommend it enough!
I am a true omnivore, I love both meat and vegetable dishes. What I don t love is vegetarian restaurants that have uninspired menus consisting of meat dishes (burgers, fried chicken, eggs, sausages, etc.) where the centerpiece of the dish has been replaced with a not as great plant-based imitation. I was absolutely thrilled to find Acorn is a restaurant with precisely 0 such items. Acorn is a restaurant where they have committed to plants as the focus of every dish, and have designed each menu item to highlight and complement the best of fresh, locally grown, and in season plants. The execution is excellent. Definitely worth a visit, even for a meat lover! Oh, and the cocktails were also great!
I recently had my second dining experience at Acorn and it left me with mixed feelings. The presentation was undoubtedly a highlight - each dish was artfully plated, showcasing a creative touch. However, some of the flavour profiles didnt quite match the visual appeal. The portion sizes were on the smaller, and I found myself searching for a satisfying fullness that never quite materialized. In summary, the restaurant offered a distinctive culinary experience with artistic presentation, but it fell short when it came to the depth of flavors and portion sizes. Its a place that might appeal more to those seeking vegan dining, but those with hearty appetites might find themselves leaving less than fully satisfied.
Expensive, but very good !
This is where you go for excellence in vegetarian dishes, even if your not a vegetarian you will be amazed. Just went again, great experience as always. Well done to the waiting staff remembering all the descriptive details :)
Amazing little place, mind blowing great food. We did the chefs tasting menu so we got to taste all kinds of Amazing foods that we wouldnt have other wise been able to experience. Vegan friendly if you wanted to know. Food
Really nice food but the portion sizes have shrunk, despite ordering several dishes to share among two people for dinner we left still hungry
Stunning and delicious. Gorgeous space, plates, ambiance, and a lovely staff. The food exceeded our already high expectations and the custom mocktails from Thiago were a perfect dinner companion. Best meal of the year for us so far!
great food and service
Went for the tasting menu as four people, very accommodating to allergies and loved the food. Service was good as well and would recommend
A friend and I went for brunch on a Saturday. There were two tables of two seated after us who got their food before we did. Took about an hour to get the first dish. In the end, the food was okay, but nothing special taste wise, and it seemed overpriced for what it was... The pasta in the Cavatelli was stuck together. The poached egg was cooked perfectly. The pancake was yummy and earthy flavored. Loved the frozen blueberries. The staff were very friendly. I enjoyed hearing about low to no waste. Parking: Street parking was $1 per hour, and lots of spaces were available.
Incredible experience all around. Worth spending a little extra to treat yourself and try a few things. The Tomato dish was particularly great
Brilliant! Massively impressed with all the food and the cocktails too,
Having brunch here, ordered Mushrooms, Corn and Harvest. Deep fried mushrooms are really nice, also love the waffle; sauces are amazing !
Lovely experience. Did the tasting experience and Every dish was absolutely perfect except the blue cheese one (but I dont like blue cheese)
Amazing little cafe, very welcoming, great servers and amazing food.
The chef s tasting menu (tailored to a vegan) surprised and satisfied my curiosities! 11 courses with an innovative palate .using ingredients like a basil oil or strawberry infused sauce. Really enjoyed vegetables I ve never used before like broccolo and chayote. However, some parts of dishes were a bit too salty like the wild rice cake. Other flavours did emerge on the plate that are true to the ingredients and as a vegan I appreciate that the focus is on those true flavours. The menu items can change based on what s in season, which I love. Service was wonderful. I received a text message earlier in the day to ask if I wanted to move my reservation to an earlier time which was actually what I wanted so it worked out. The two women who served me were very welcoming, cool and attentive. They explained the dishes very well, pointed them out on the menu for me so I could follow along and made suggestions to pair a wine for the entire meal. In an intimate space, it was a cozy romantic vibe for dinner and I liked that it was more laid back than pretentious The quality of food, ambience and service are top tier. Dietary restrictions: Vegan
The cutest little woodsy restaurant nice lighting and beautiful big windows for natural light too! We had the bean carbonara and potatoes and they were both amazing and this fantastic angel food cake Vegetarian options: The entire menu is vegetarian
Fantastic meal. Chef s tasting plate will set you back almost $80 pp, but dang it s some good stuff here churning out of that kitchen is *chefs kiss*. Internationally recognized and award-winning, the accolades are well deserved. Cozy restaurant, resos recommended. Servers know their stuff. Rotating menu based on seasonal ingredients. Vegetarian options: Vancouver s best vegan/vegetarian restaurant!! Parking: Peak meal times can be hard to find paid street parking but go off the main strip into the residential areas.
Amazing food, service & atmosphere. We have been here twice. The second time we did the tasting menu and it was perfect from start to finish, highly recommend!
Fabulous brunch...chose the tasting menu...no need to eat for the rest of the day :) Dessert for breakfast is a great idea!
I ve been eyeing this place for a while and decided to boujee it up for my anniversary. We were greeted within a minute and sat at a table. Having made a reservation made things quite easy as they knew our preferences. It was quite an experience as I ve never been in a fine dining situation before. To say the least, each dish blew me away. Being a foodie, I understood the procedure and how well thought out each menu item was curated - even when it shouldn t have made sense, it did. Such big compliments to the chef and everyone in the kitchen I believe that apart of every experience is the service. I loved connecting with each server that came by to drop off us a dish. Because it was quite loud, Shea made an extra effort and met us at our level to go into detail about each plate and explain menu items I ve never even heard of before. Karolina and Siobhan were just as lovely. I appreciated the little extra time they spent chatting with us. They were very knowledgeable with answering my questions. Jack, you were awesome too. That ginger beer was fire! Other than the loud chatter, the atmosphere was lovely. Everything was clean, and the decor was simple but nice. I noticed a bunch of the reviews complained about the price being high but honestly, try and cook all that food for under $80 plus your time and tell me it wasn t worth it. I never understood the small portions and fine dining till I went here. Packing that much flavour into a bite literally blows my mind! I hope this business continues to succeed. Bringing out vegetables as the main and having it that delicious is hard. Thanks to everyone who made a wonderful end to our anniversary! Will be back again Vegetarian options: The whole menu is vegetarian! Dietary restrictions: They are more than willing to accommodate whatever allergies or dietary restrictions there are.
My top pick for vegetarian in the city, also my daughters favorite spot for brunch
Great vegetarian place. Amazing creativity in food and presentation.
Fantastic experience. Friendly staff and the food was amazing. We were there to celebrate a birthday and the birthday boy whos a vegetarian loved the meal. The chefs did a great job and made the ingredients shine! We were introduced to a lot of new food that we were not familiar with or had it prepared in such a fun way. Thanks Acorn! Highly recommend. Vegetarian options: Excellent place to celebrate with a vegetarian.
Super friendly staff, good food
I m not a vegetarian « specialist » but the food was soo good tasty and incredibly surprising ! Be adventurous and you will not regret it ! 5 stars ! Food
Best appetizer bread ever. The dishes were great too.
Really a 4.5 out of 5 star rating. A very unique offering of vegetarian food from this restaurant that won t make you miss the meat one bit. Portions are generous to the point many mains could be easily shared. Great drinks also. Highly recommend breakfast here and having the fried oyster mushroom and waffle dish.
We tried the Chef s tasting menu and were thrilled with the dishes we had. While the food was scrumptious, the only downside was that they had multiple boiled vegetables with different sauces to offer and nothing over the top. Overall a wonderful experience but if they had something filling like tofu or jackfruit and rice based dishes such as cutlets or some gravy, I would have enjoyed more. Drinks are great too.
