I've ordered there 4x, each time the fried rice (beef etc) was dry and bland, tonight the beef vegetables were overly salty, as with the not-chow mein onion-filled junk that was sent. I wont be ordering from there again
The NICEST person answered to take my delivery order TWICE when I made sure that the restaurant offered their own delivery. AND then I was told it would be up to an hour arrived in 20 minutes HOT and FRESH and OMG the eggrolls weigh a lot. If ever I could recommend a wonderful food experience this is one of my best I don't have a lot of money so ordering isn't often but THIS is so worth it you have never had Chinese food as good as Ruby House. I swear Vanier is a Foodie heaven full of hidden gems like this one. EAT THIS ITS TOO GOOD FOR WORDS and to have exceptional customer service? This place is the BEST!
The girl with glasses are not polite at all and not professional she made my day sucks Edit* While I have no complaints about the food or service in general, I was deeply disturbed by the behavior of one of the employees. There was a young woman with glasses working at the restaurant who was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. She was speaking loudly, using inappropriate and offensive language that could be heard by all the customers. Her behavior created an unpleasant atmosphere and was very unbecoming for someone working in customer service. While I understand that everyone has difficult days, this level of unprofessionalism, especially in a public setting, is unacceptable. It’s my opinion that such behavior is not suitable for someone in her position, and she should not be allowed to continue working at this establishment unless proper corrective actions are taken. I hope the management will address this issue to ensure a better experience for future customers.
Didn't feel like cooking tonight and my wife wanted some Chinese food. Ordered from Ruby house with some reservations as I'm a Chef. The chicken fried rice, Shanghai noodles and open ended egg rolls were all good with no complaints. The general tsao chicken was not spicy and just a fried clumpy mess and an unauthentic sauce. The crisy beef was even worse. Same ultra thin...maybe beef but over fried with literally a sweet sugar syrup sauce. Both the Chicken and Beef were 90% batter. With prices from Uber eats uppriced from the restos regular prices by 3 to 4$, it was sadly disappointing. I don't like to bash items but even my expectations of simple decent Chinese food ...it fell short on those two dishes. I'll pass next time. Edit *got a reply from owner. The price on his menu is 16.50 for most dishes vs 19.90 on Uber and egg rolls are 2$ on menu vs 2.50 on Uber. Watch out! Had to throw out the chicken and beef. Just inedible sadly.
I was gonna rate this place 5 stars, as I have ordered from here a few times, and always found the food delicious, General Tso's was always just as spicy as I like, never overcooked, the fried rice is always very flavourful and I love their Chicken Balls, HOWEVER. Last night I placed an order for two combination plates, for me and my father and I found a piece of rubber in my General Tso's Chicken, I had almost swallowed it before I noticed the taste in my mouth was almost chemical and spit it out. Picture for proof. Not okay at all. The Service is great, but if I'm gonna risk getting contaminants in my food, it's not worth it. Better quality control is required.
We've been ordering from this place since it opened as the food was tasty and portions were large. However, we've been disappointed with the quality and lack of attention to details as they got our vegetarian option incorrect (twice since we started ordering there) and our Cantonese Chow Meins had partially undercooked crunchy noodles. When we order over the phone and when we pick up our orders, customer service is great but we have to double check our orders and now wondering if we have to actually open our containers to make sure the noodles are fully cooked.. seems like a gamble and/or extra effort for take out.
This has to be the freshest Chinese food I had in a very long time.(Delivery) The dinner for two with the extra fried rice was generous . The chop suey still had just enough *snap* to feel it was fresh , the rice wasn't starchy or overcooked, the chicken balls were battered very well. It wasn't a greasy expectation at all. Thanks for the extra fortune cookies, will recommend and order again. P.S Nice Red Sauce 🤌🏽
We were craving some Chinese food and decided to try a new place open since Oct last year called Ruby House Chinese Food. They are located on Montreal rd, near Vanier Parkway (in front of Friends Bingo). We were very satisfied! The eggrolls were crunchy and full of stuffing, the fried rice taste good, the spare ribs had a good amount of meat, the chicken wings were crispy and the chicken balls had a fluffy batter. We got some take away packs of food here! The portions were large! Beware! You might not be able to finish them if you re eating alone! Had leftovers for breakfast Food : 5/5

I ordered two combination plates...sorry to say this but its the most disgusting Chinese food I ever had... Old oil IDK...the egg roll was spicy or rotten couldnt eat the rest. Told my friend about this...she said she had a same experience. Definitely NOT recommended!!!

I am baffled by these good reviews.. this is the worst chinese food ive ever had. The sauces lack flavour, and the foods are all very dull with weird textures and flavours. I couldnt finish it.. dont waste your money. I would have been better off getting mcdonalds.

The second time we ordered and it s the second time we re disappointed we just wanted to give them a second chance, but the eggrolls are old when you get them and the Cantonese style chow mein had big clumps of hard noodles inside uncooked and clumpy and crunchy and not the Dishes way I expect Cantonese style chow mein to be also, there was a used dirty, bunched up Kleenex in my bag with my food how disgusting and unprofessional Yeah, on top of things Will never order from here again
We had take out once about 2 months ago and the egg rolls had a weird taste to them. We ordered again last week and the fried rice was oversteam and under cook. The spare ribs had no flavor and the texture wasnt like normally. Really disappointed. We wont go there anymore.
Used to be my go to place to get Chinese food. But lately the food has gone down hill and last night was the worse. The egg roll were overcooked, smaller than usual and less filling. The fried Wonton with meat were good, just overcooked. Fried rice was really overcooked and mushy with no taste. Kung Po Chicken was tasty, as was the Pineapple Chicken Soo Guy. Except the sauce for the Pineapple Chicken Soo Guy was watery. When it came to the Garlic Spare Ribs. The sauce was watery and and it made the ribs tasteless. Overall the food has to be some of the worse Chinese food I have ever had and what a shame. The place used to have great food.
No chicken in rice . No sauce on chicken balls . . No meet on ribs I just spent 25$ plus tip on plain rice and No sauce on balls Food
It used to be my go to...but theyve changed owner in the last few months and the food went downhill, vrey dry rice, bland eggroll sauce, dry ribs, etc.

This restaurant only do takeout or delivery and they dirty. Dont even speak English. They been her 50 yrs and no English come on. So not eat there food cause they are dirty and dont listen to the customer.

Ruby house is a great take away in vanier, Not a sit down place but great food and the staff super nice and welcoming even my kid loves ruby houses wonton soup and lets not let the amazing chicken sooguy. In short you wont be disappointed though your wallet will feel it. Kid-friendliness: My kid always want to go and they are very kind

Very good Chinese food. The open egg rolls are some of the best Ive had in Ottawa. And the kung pao chicken and general taos chicken are really spicy and addictive.
I dont know if theres a new change of owner or something but the entire team and dynamic is not the same. The food went downhill.. their rice is super dry and food is bland.

Guys. Don t believe the good reviews. This was the worst place I ve ever tried. There s no taste, the rice smells like wet dog and it was so expensive for poor quality. The sweet and sour sauce is so dull in taste and colour, same with the general Tao. I trusted the good reviews :(

I like it alot. Im stuck on eggrolls, spare ribs and rice. but they have alot of different plates to taste and mix up. various vegetarian plates as well. All honesty, Im a delivery driver there, but I know its good when I see the cooks eat the dishes and test their ingredients, themselves.

Good prices clean good food
Use to work near that establishment ordered food for pick up at lunch time. Short walk to that location. Dine in on occasion with friends and co-workers after work . But recently called to see if they were still open answer was yes limited free Parking at the back of the restaurant. Did not go because of all the construction on Montreal Road. We choose another restaurant with ample of free parking with not construction near buy. Went at Kelseys, but I was hungry for Chinese food that day.

My father and I are in town for a few days and didn t feel like going out to the Mandarin as our appetites are small so we decided to order from here. We ordered a Number 1 Combo and Cantonese Chow Main with 2 extra egg rolls. Upon receiving I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of food received for what is a average price. It smelled and looked fantastic even before taking a bite. Dad said the combo was good and flavourful. My Chow Main was way better than I was expecting. Everything seemed fresh and the flavour was phenomenal beyond my expectations again. All the food was hot upon delivery via Uber Ears despite the 15 minutes between pickup and delivery. I m almost sad I won t be near this place next time I have a craving highly recommend! We have enough food left for another meal. Hey Ruby House, keep up the good work and portions.

This restaurant has great takeout and friendly service! There are lots of menu options and the food is excellent value. Their egg rolls are definitely a highlight with both closed end and opened end available. It is great to have an excellent Chinese restaurant in Vanier. I will be going here whenever I am craving Chinese takeout.
Super happy with my first order from Ruby House. Had classic dishes (eggrolls, fried rice, noodles, chow mein) Everything was tasty. Chicken balls deserve special mention as excellent batter/chicken ratio (lots of chicken).

Ordered from Ubereats for first time yesterday. Food was seriously good. Best egg rolls and chow mein Ive had. General tso delicious too. Vegetables were fresh. This will become a new favourite.
We ordered on line and when we went to pick up the door was locked. No one theee and they charged my credit card twice.
EGG ROLLS! The open end egg rolls alone make this place one of the best in the east end, if not all Ottawa. Everything we have ordered has been good and the portions are huge for the price. Happy to support a local business like this and happy to have finally found a new go to for take out :)
My girlfriend and I decided to order from here for date night. . . The Cantonese chow mein noodles were burnt and crunchy. . . We ordered the sesame chicken and it is breaded chicken with mayonnaise on it. . . We also got chicken fried rice which was quite bland . . The one thing that didn t disappoint was the breaded sweet and sour shrimp, but it is kinda difficult to mess up a container of sauce and cooked breaded shrimp. It is not worth the money, or the quality.
This is my first time ordering. Delivery was quick. I ordered Combination # 2 and the food was excellent. My box was so full I had enough for the next day meal. I would highly recommend.
I ordered last week for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised! All the food was freshly prepared and tasted great. I got a combination platter that was more than enough food for 2 meals. I also had an order of chicken wings, which were also great! Theyre about twice the size of the average chicken wings from a take-out chinese food place and so crispy. Overall, I would definitely order again. The bingo parking lot and nearby gas stations can provide parking if there is no spot next to the sidewalk!

100% the best Chinese food Ive had in a long time, maybe ever. You get a lot of food for the price and it tastes amazing. We got the house special fried rice, Shanghai noodles and garlic chicken soo guy. All were amazing and I can wait to try more!

There hasnt been a good Chinese food restaurant in this area for quite some time. I had a small order. Just a bunch of egg rolls but they were delicious. The delivery was very fast and my food was still hot. I would recommend this restaurant very highly.
Haven t had such delicious Chinese food in years. Everything was to perfection. I ordered egg rolls, chowmein, spare ribs nice n tender, fried rice mmm good. List goes on. Vegetable guy ding flavoured n crispy veggies.
