We ve been coming for many years. Best vegan Ethiopian in Ottawa. Family owned. Warm and friendly, laid back vibe. Excellent value. We especially love the spinach and red lentils, but all the vegetarian options are excellent. Teff injera is very good.

We went there with friends who already knew this restaurant and what can I say: we had a fantastic evening. The lady who took the order and recommended food and all was just so heartwarming and friendly and cool and aware, I can t imagine anybody doing it better than that. Seriously. The food also was perfect. We had platters to share and everyone was absolutely satisfied with what we got. Highly recommend this place! Keep up the great work, all the best.

We love Habesha and enjoy bringing friends. The injera (wheat or teff) is fresh. Personal platters let people sample several dishes, including vegetarian platters. I love their kifto! The coffee is fantastic.

Simple place but wow did the food blow our minds. Delicious and nutritious. Basically all kinds of delicious stews and spices with yummy chewy flatbread and a variety of other options we didnt get into. There were 5 of us and everyone loved it. Very nice staff also. I highly recommend.

The food at Habesha is absolutely delicious, freshly made, simple, easily digestible, non greasy, but oh the seasoning, the flavors!! The ambiance is simple yet warm, welcoming. The service is diligent and non obtrusive. Rightly priced. I keep going back any chance I get.

A restaurant owner the hires a contractor and refuses to pay for the sweets and energy and time I spent fixing their backyard and restrooms. There is that people show understand. If you, as clients want to enjoy a restaurant service or any other treats, ask yourselves why you support a vendor that refusea to pay hard earned money for contractors. It is a shame to support or buy services of such places. I am a victim that got left unpaid for my work done at their new place 99 montreal road. Boycott this place. Say no to vendors who refuse hardworking people to support their families. Today I am a victim and tomorrow someone else will.be a victim. Share this on social media and Another complaint I want to bring attention is, the place has systemic racism, you are white, Asian the they rush to serve you. You are black, then you have to wait longer.

The food was a great example of the cuisine, but the stand-out by far was our server who surprised my kids by bringing them a very exotic looking, resort-level (virgin) cocktail and had them guessing all through the meal what was in the drink. She was an absolute pleasure, and I m so happy we went to the restaurant because of her hospitality towards us. Thank you so much!

Came here on my birthday. The staff lack customer service. We stood at the cash for a few minutes before being told to sit down. I am not kidding when I say we sat down for TWENTY minutes , in a mostly empty restaurant with 2 other patrons who had already been served, before even being given the menus. After that, the food took half an hour and as we waited we could see the servers and cooks drinking beers in the back kitchen and Kiki-ing. Quite sad, as being East African myself, I would not recommend this restaurant to people to sit in. Maybe take out. Food was good.

My partner and I went here for supper. We were greeted promptly, our waitress was very friendly, food came out quickly and it was delicious! We each got a platter. Afterwards we had tea and coffee which had a wonderful presentation. Will definitely be coming back.

Pretty decent Ethiopian restaurant in Ottawa. Quantity is a bit less compared to some other Ethiopian restaurants so please be mindful if you are planning to dine-in with family. The non-veg items were tastier, they didnt have the liver dishes when I visited. Habesha platter is definitely one of the dishes you can try, the injera was indeed soft and tasty. The place had nice ambience with some Ethiopian art works.

Absolutely scrumptious!! I hiiiiighly recommend coming her, its the best most authentic Ethiopian cuisine in Ottawa (my roommate is Etheopean and said so himself!). I will DEFINITELY be coming here again, and again, and again. We ordered the meat tasting/sharing platter, it was awesome to taste everything and I definitely have my favourites. Everything was astonishingly flavourful, and we also ordered a spicy lamb dish. Everything was so tasty!! The Ingera was perfect, I prefer the darker one as its more tangy, but the white one is fluffier. Both are equally elastic and perfect for scooping up all the delicious flavours. Do your soul a favour and try this place out. My only complaint is that the food took ~40min to arrive. Now that I know what I like I might call next time and preorder before coming in ;)

First experience with Ethiopian food! What a wonderful discovery. Server suggested the combination platters which we loved ! Also tried a spicy lamb dish that was also excellent. Staff were very friendly and ambiance was great. We enjoyed having time to sit and chat for a while. Excellent place for a relaxing meal with friends.

We have been there before,so we thought we would give it another try. Well that was a mistake. We walked the waitress threw the menus at us. Then proceeded to ignore us. She never asked if even wanted water. Oh by the way there was only one other table. Its really to bad because the food is great.

The family that owns this restaurant is kind, understanding, amazing and hospitable. They accommodated for our large group with open arms, amazing customer service and delicious food! As a person that recently came from Ethiopia for university, I have very high standards for Ethiopian food as I ve been eating quality food from STRAIGHT from the mainland. I have to say, this is by far the tastiest food I ve had in my whole stay here. The taste truly reminds me of home. I really recommend this place, will definitely we going back many many more times.

first time trying this location. i tried a variety platter with a side. ive always loved Ethiopian food, but this is easily the best experience ive had. delicious, fresh, flavorful. can be made non-spicy and spicy. family owned with phenomenal service. was serviced by Abby (unsure on spelling). loved her passion and energy in discussing the options. very helpful knowledge of the menu with finding the right fit for what i was after. didnt wait long for the food. i will most certainly come back here! Very upset went last night with my friend the pictures on google didn t look anything like the food we received. Portion was extremely little, The food had no salt whatsoever. Extremely disappointed. I heard great things about this place so my expectations where high!

The food is excellent and the service is great.

This place went down steeply on quality of food and service. First, they are no more serving injera but a white flour bread by default unless one asks explicitly in which case they charge extra. The problem is that the whole idea of Ethiopian food is the sour bread injera but they seem not to care. Secondly, the service is no more in quality as the ladies working there are rude to customers and disrespectful. I stoped patronizing the place.

Lets see, where do I start. Firstly, the hours are incorrect. Nobody at the restaurant cares enough to change. According to the locals, they dont even care to pick up the phone. Secondly, when I got there, it took a several hellos for the server to come out. It took a while for the food to get out, and when it was out, the server disappeared again. So now I had to wait in front of the kitchen in order to ask for more water and napkins. Unbelievable. The whole time, I felt like they didnt want customers inside. And thirdly, the injera bread was dried. Ok. Whatev.

We stopped by for lunch during the week, ordered two dishes Good stuff: - Food was super flavorful and tasty, we really enjoyed the platter with a variety of different dishes. - injera was very tasty and they had different options for dietary concerns - steak dish we got was tasty, well cooked and seasoned well Could use improvements: - Service was pretty much nonexistent and a bit rude. When we went to pay, they charged us for a few items we did not order. They were very rude in that process.

Food is okay. Wait times unacceptably long. Prepare to sip water for over an hour.

I have been going to Habesha for more than 10 years. The food is absolutely delicious, and very affordable. Staff is friendly, and everything is consistent. I absolutely love this place and eat here regularly. Service is not always the fastest when you dine in, but that aspect is way overshadowed by the quality of the food, in my opinion. Its worth it.

I havent had Ethiopian in 4 years, so when I had to come to Ottawa today I jumped on the chance to have my favourite meal. The habesha platter. I tell you the food was amazing along with the service. My daughter asked for a chocolate milk and they didnt have any, but the server said I will go over to Tim hortons and grab you one on me. I was in awww that someone would actually do that for my daughter. The next time or anytime I am in Ottawa I will be coming here. You will not be disappointed. If I had 100 thumbs they would all be up. Thank you Habesha for satisfying my Ethiopian craving.

I have eaten Ethiopian food in every major city in Canada. While Ottawa does not have the largest community I would hold Habesha up as a stellar example of comfort food from Ethiopia. As good as anything I ve had in Toronto. I have been to Hadasha perhaps 20 times and never had a disappointing experience. Lunch services incredibly fast, and even during a Saturday evening when the restaurant is hopping with happy families service is never slow. But it really is about the food. This is comfortable delicious and not necessarily over spaced if you are concerned. It is vegetarian friendly, and one of the most memorable meals you will enjoy for the price. Go go go.

Just walked out out of this place after 1h of waiting for the food and nothing! We were told the food is already made I don t understand why it should take an hour (maybe more idk I walked out) for it to be ready? The server was out going but quiet pushy and called our choices BORING trying to sell us a different thing knowing we didn t like it (!?) Something just doesn t add up I m confused -_- I wouldn t recommend this place (I guess?)

We picked this restaurant based on its great reviews on Google and its interesting menu. Our server was super friendly and helpfully suggested that we try the vegetarian platter, the habesha platter, and one of the special dishes from the last page on the menu. We decided on getting the special kitfo cooked medium rare. We figured it was a good sign when we had to wait a little while for our food, and we werent disappointed. The injera was perfect, and both mixed platters were served on one, with the rest rolled up in pieces on the side. The kitfo came in a separate bowl and was absolutely delicious. A little spicy, tons of flavour. I couldnt recommend it more highly. The other platter items were excellent with some overlap between the two platters but still a good variety. The French beans and collard beans were particularly delicious. The meat dishes were all tender. The server particularly impressed us with her happy demeanor, beautiful smile, and the kindness and enthusiasm with which she looked after everyone. A couple with a small child came in as we were finishing dinner, and she had them (regulars I think) let their ~2 year old child sit on a bar stool at the counter. They proceeded to relax at their table for a date night while she gave their kid colouring book pages and crayons and kept an eye on her and kept her entertained. The ubereats delivery person was given a cup of tea to drink while he waited a couple minutes for his order. Customer service at its best! Its no wonder the restaurant seemed to have lots of regulars! Next time were in the city, we plan to come back!

Had a wonderful experience here. The food tastes great. They also have several vegetarian/vegan options. We ordered the vegetarian platter which had a little bit of almost all their veggie options and was quite filling too. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Ethiopian food!

I have had Ethiopian food only a few times and it has always been a good experience. The food from this place reminded me of food from a loving home s kitchen. As strange as that sounds, it is how the food tasted like. Everything was seasoned well and great quantity too. Just the right amount of spice. I opted for carry out and the staff were extremely nice despite me just having a couple of minutes worth of interaction. It s hard to make an impression in that timeframe but somehow these guys nailed that too. I am definitely looking to returning back, hopefully for dine-in next time around. Great job guys!

Quite a hidden gem. We went there as this was an Ethiopian restaurant. We love Ethiopian food and havent had it for quite a while. The lady serving was very friendly and she suggested good items. We tried the platter and it was delicious. Wanted to try the Ethiopian coffee but we had to leave. The price is very reasonable and portions are quite good. Definitely a place to recommend.

GREAT - SO TASTY! We phoned in our order, with helpful suggestions from the chef/owner, then picked up - our order was ready in less than 30 minutes, still warm when we got it home, SO DELICIOUS. The vegetarian platter was great, 6 or 7 different dishes to sample. The big hit with our kids was the kik wat (yellow split peas in a mild turmeric sauce) - which they really enjoyed, esp. eating it with the injera bread in their hands. Highly recommend. My family and I have been going to this restaurant since 2006 when they were on Wellington st. This is my absolute favourite restaurant in Ottawa. The food is absolutely delicious and unparalleled. So many great memories in all the different locations they have moved, we always follow them wherever they go its that good !! I now live in France and suddenly got hit with an urgent craving for Ethiopian food and wish I could fly back to Ottawa JUST for the exquisite and perfectly chewy injera. I dream of those yellow split peas and their simple yet amazing salad. I could just go to an Ethiopian restaurant here, but I am too scared that my expectations will be too high because of my amazing experience with the Habesha. Hopefully one day the Habesha will start delivering across the Atlantic ;)

Their injera is SOOOOOO good (when you order delivery - you get it fresh and warm unlike Hareg on Bank - and the portion is very generous). The veggie dishes are flavorful and delicious, not floating in oil. My favorites are the collards and the split peas

Tasty Ethiopian food at decent prices. We have been going there for many years. Definitely recommend the Habesha platter with Injera and an array of tasty curries. They have a vegetarian platter as well. The owner and the staff are really nice and accommodating. They moved a couple of times over the years and are currently located at Montreal road near the Vanier parkway intersection. If you are a local or are visiting Ottawa, check them out.

We took the Habesha platter to take away. Delicious and generous, with 3 legumes and 4 different kinds of meat! Wait was 20min for in-person order, which is reasonable. Will definitely order again.
