Pastoral murals & wood beams craft an old-world vibe at this Persian spot with meat-centric mains.
Who puts potato in the Barley soup?! That’s not even Barley soup anymore. Got charged 6$ for a Greek Salad, lettuce & tomato was just washed and had water drops on them! I mean I hope it was water and two big pieces of feta on top! Like how hard can it be to make a Greek salad, but they charge you 6$ for it. See it for yourself.
The atmosphere is warm and sophisticated, creating the perfect vibe for a memorable evening. The service was special thanks to Sahar for her warm hospitality and helpful recommendations. Her kindness made our night even better. Highly recommend!
Really great Iranian food and the inside of the restaurant is absolutely unique. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and the portions were absolutely large.
The most delicious and authentic Persian cuisine. We tried different kabab platters. The saffron rice accompanying main dishes were just amazing! Great appetizers. And to top it off, the deserts were a must to end a delicious meal.
Recommended by a coworker back in Montreal who used to live in Toronto so I had to try it while I was in town. I was very excited to finally try Persian food. Upon walking in I was already greeted by a warm and welcoming smell of meat. There were two parties going on as well so the ambience was upbeat. Very hype. Music was played by the parties which seemed to have annoyed some tables but I thoroughly enjoyed the vibe. It took a while until someone came to take my order but reasonable given the situation. The waitress was very genuine and very sweet. She had told me that it was her 3rd month in Toronto. She had a great aura! She suggested the BADEMJAN KEBAB as entree and the VAZIRI KEBAB as main. The flavour profile of the Bademjan (eggplant stuffed with walnuts, pomegranate paste and spices) was not my favourite but I am very happy to have tried it :). It had a very strong acidic taste and sweet. The walnut taste was very light. She took the time to explain what geographical location those flavours come from which was very cool of her. The Vaziri was very tasty. Flavours that I am far more familiar to. Meat portions were adequate however a bit more salad would have been nice. The chicken was very well prepared and the ground beef skewer was very flavourful. I was extremely happy to see the rice with the crust at the bottom (my coworker explained to me how the rice is usually cooked and the nice crust on the bottom of the rice showcased your culinary skills when hosting guests. A bit pricey but worth the try for sure would recommend if you are in town!
Authentic Persian food, great taste and portion. The atmosphere is fantastic with the great Persian decoration style of North of Iran. The staff are also very friendly. We ordered Zereshpolo, it came with two chicken legs, large protion and delicious. Also, ordered Kabab Koobideh, it was juicy and tasty. Definitely recommend this place.
5/5 stars! I've had the pleasure of dining at North Restaurant in Toronto twice now, and both experiences have been absolutely exceptional! From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff made us feel right at home. The food is truly the star of the show - every dish we tried was expertly prepared, presented, and devoured! The menu offers a fantastic range of options to suit every taste, and the wine list is impressive. The ambiance is modern, sleek, and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a night out with friends or a romantic evening. I've fallen in love with North Restaurant, and I can't wait to go back for more! If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and book a table - you won't regret it!
** Update Review ** (As of August 22, 2024) Food: 1 Stars Service: 1 Stars Ambience: 1 Stars Value: 1 Stars Overall: 1 Stars My recent visit to North Restaurant was deeply disappointing, leaving me unsure if I’ll return. As a long-time customer, I've noticed a significant decline in service and quality. Upon arrival, the lack of enthusiasm from the staff was evident. Despite the restaurant not being busy, it took an unusually long time for our server to greet us, making us feel like an inconvenience. One of the most frustrating aspects of our experience was the issue with our food order. I ordered Vaziri with no rice sub caesar salad but was charged the full price for the salad which usually never happens. To add to this, I ordered tahdig, a dish that traditionally comes with a stew. Instead, I was charged separately for a Gormeh Sabzi stew. This level of attention to detail is simply unacceptable. On top of that we ordered borani and it came out same time as our mains although it's an appetizer dish. The lamb shank was also overly salted and tough. Communication issues further worsened our experience. The server’s limited understanding of English led to multiple misunderstandings and errors. In a service industry, clear communication is essential, and this was lacking. The decline in service quality at North Restaurant is particularly disappointing because this used to be a place we looked forward to visiting. However, it’s clear that standards have slipped. The chicken kebab, which has always been a reliable choice, arrived undercooked. This was the final straw in what had already been a subpar dining experience. I’m genuinely saddened by the decline of North Restaurant, as it once held a special place in my list of go-to spots. However, after this experience, I can't see myself returning any time soon. The slow and poor service, combined with the miscommunication and errors in our order, made for a deeply disappointing evening. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, as the restaurant has the potential to be much better than what we experienced. Until there are noticeable improvements, I cannot recommend this place to others. ** Review ** (As of July 9, 2023) Food: 5 Stars Service: 4 Stars Ambience: 3 Stars Value: 4 Stars Overall: 4 Stars Nestled in the vibrant heart of Toronto, North Restaurant stands out as a gem for anyone seeking a true taste of Iranian cuisine. This delightful establishment effortlessly marries traditional flavours with a contemporary twist, ensuring a dining experience that's both fresh and authentic. One dish that never fails to impress me is the barley soup, Ash-e-jow. It’s so delightful that I’ve actually taken the time to learn how to make it at home! The kebabs here are consistently excellent, grilled to perfection every time. The Caesar salad is another highlight, always crisp and fresh. I must also mention the Borani Spinach with flatbread – it's wonderfully seasoned and utterly delicious As a lover of Persian food, I’ve visited North Restaurant over a dozen times, and each visit has been a joy. Definitely one of my go-to orders is the Vaziri Kebab with Chicken leg skewer and the Koobideh skewer. Both usually very juicy and delicious. I've also noticed, over the years, a marked improvement in the dining service. The newer staff members are more attentive, speak better English, and have a friendly, welcoming demeanour. This change, which might be due to a shift in ownership, has certainly enhanced the overall dining experience. Whether you’re there for a special occasion or just to satisfy a craving for Iranian cuisine, North Restaurant is an excellent choice. The combination of superb food and improved service makes every visit memorable. I highly recommend North Restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Persian dishes in Toronto. Keep up the fantastic work, North! xx kellychan360
Great food, excellent service, family friendly, very spacious, beautifully decorated, and live music on weekends.
My experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. Unfortunately, it seems that the level of service depends on the number of people at the table and the expectation of tips. If youre dining alone, you hardly receive any attention, which is truly unprofessional and disheartening. On top of that, the food was underwhelming and didnt make up for the poor service. Such discriminatory behavior is not fitting for a restaurant, and I hope the management takes this issue seriously. My experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. Unfortunately, the level of service seems to be determined by the number of people at the table and the length of the wait for tipping. If you are alone, you will receive almost no attention, which is really unprofessional and uncomfortable. In addition, the quality of the food was disappointing and did not compensate for the poor service. Such discriminatory behavior is not worthy of a restaurant and I hope the management will take this issue seriously.
Most of their food was of low quality, raw and tasteless, and in the end, they charged 60 dollars for each bill with our displeasure.
Amazing food
What an amazing meal! The Persian food was so delicious - every time I tried the next meat it became my new favourite. I recommend the North Restaurant! Vegetarian options: Egg plant dishes were delicious!
Uncooked food and horrible taste .
I am not sure why the average raiting is so low, this is our favorite restaurant. Meals are not just delicious but also big! We always enjoy coming here.
I recently had dinner at Shomal Restaurant, and it was such a great experience. The live Persian music created the perfect atmosphere so relaxing and enjoyable. Our waiter, Sahar, was amazing. She was super friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain the menu and recommend some dishes we might like. She really made the whole experience feel special. The food was incredible. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, and the Persian dishes, in particular, were so tender and full of flavor. You can tell a lot of care goes into the cooking. Overall, it was such a lovely evening with great food, music, and service. I d definitely recommend Shomal if you re looking for authentic Persian food and a great vibe!
If you want to have a dinner with peace this is the worst restaurant where you can go . Some drunk dude assaulted us there . Unbelievable.
Absolutely loved the food here, The taste of Barg and Shandiz were incredible and the atmosphere was so welcoming.Highly recommend for a great dining experience.
I recently had the best Persian meal at NORTH .The friendly service and mouthwatering dishes made it a memorable experience.
One of our friends recommend us this restaurant..They accepted us with warm welcome . We started with Borani spinach ,Baba ghanooush , Baghala ghatogh. Our main dishes was North special kebab and Vaziri Kebab All food was delicious. The taste was second to none The environment was calm and quiet. We are going to come and eat with our friends in the following week.
Once a very popular Persian restaurant that we used to go or order out regularly has gone downhill. Tonight was our last visit. As customers we can only punish such restaurants by not going there anymore. Frankly with so many Persian restaurants with better quality of food and service their days are numbered anyways. I guess the owners don t need the customers anymore. They are satisfied with a few group parties now and then. It is an unpredictable atmosphere there, tonight with loud music from a side party, and a group of children running around as if it is a children s park. I feel bad for the waitresses as it is hard for them to control the chaos of drunk Iranians with their loud children. There is an expression in Farsi for the people we met tonight bunch of street thugs having a party and threatening the other customers. I can t talk about the quality of food today as we left before the food. I am adding this part after seeing the response fro. Management to further clarify. Management indeed tried to ask us to stay and eat our dinner. We were a family of 11 including kid ourselves, late in evening and hungry and have waited a while. We asked the restaurant twice if they can ask the 10+ kids to go play on the other side of the restaurant. They said they had asked but kids are not listening. Their run around and jumping on tables was not appropriate of restaurant atmosphere. When we told the kids to refrain from running and jumping around us is when the guys from the party came out first a 150 pound guy then another one and then another 300 pound guy asked us to leave or else!!! What would you do in this situation. We felt if we stayed and those drunk guys come back there would be more trouble. I have no intention of disrespecting and have not said anything that did not occur. At the end of day like I asked we will avoid that place. That is only tool I have. Good luck
Excellent food and service
Great place for romantic dinner. The ambiance is great and the food even better. A true Persian delight.
Delicious Yummy and special. It s the best delicious Iran I have ever eaten.
I am so thankful to the chef that made the best lamp chops ever. All the servers were really kind , they were doing great team work and the environment was clean! Definitely recommend
Delicious food. Excellent hospitality . as always. Thanks
They make their own bread and its delicious! and the service is alright but the food is overpriced compared to other persian restaurants and the quality is just mid. As u enter, u see the saddest fish tank with the greenest water, which is very off-putting tbh.
The food was so good and fresh highly recommend!!
My first time in that place , I needed a quick sandwich, there is no menu for takeout. They just have two type of sandwiches as seen in one of my pictures one is chicken and one is beef. I took the beef it is called kodibeh wrap, it is nice , it is similar to kofta
One of the best in town Definitely try kabab torsh and tahdig with gheyme Food
Amazing persian food. Best kebab in the GTA.
Im not objective about this review! Its one of my hangouts along with Drom! Been going there for almost 20 years. In general food is good and maybe a bit pricey. Staff is generally kind and always smiling when serving.
Thanks to Mrs Marjan hospitality we had a very great day there
Service is good. Food and atmosphere are OK. Price is reasonable.
This stars eggplant burani was wonderful, the grilled meat was beyond words. And finally, the waiters were very polite and friendly.
Nice people, acceptable food
Its our 1st time at this restaurant. Mehri, our server, provided outstanding customer service. She guided us through from the very beginning. She made excellent recommendations with the menu and even gave us an orientation on how to enjoy an Iranian tea. We had Torsh Kebab, North Special Kebab, Vaziri Kebab and Ghormeh Sabzi. We LOVE all of them, but the Torsh Kebab was superb! We will come back for sure! The freshly baked bread in the beginning was also very tasty.
Excellent food, services and outdoor seating was exceptional
Went with some friends, food was fantastic, service is friendly, place can do with few updates but nothing earth shattering.
Great dinner and wonderful evening.
Very good authentic Persian food. The best Fasanjan and one of the best of Kask Bademjan. The Koobedah, Barg and kabab tursh is amazing. Very good service and nice atmosphere with live music. Food
My mom and I went today to have lunch at North restaurant Amir and mehrdad were both really really welcoming and nice and they served us very well I will give 5 star to their service.
Good Persian restaurant!
Not recommended ! Kabab torsh was so bad ,I asked them to change it and they said they are all the same , so I didnt eat it . baghla ghatogh has no salt , they also charged us a wrong amount , it was other tables bill !
Great persian resturant with a quality food. Arguably the best chicken kebab I ever had.. Fair price Food : 5/5
The food was okay not like before
The food is amazing! Staff are extraordinary! But they have fruit flies! And we all know how you get fruit flies! There must be produce around the kitchen that hasn t been cleaned! It s very annoying this must be taken care of!
Food is great quality and the portions are huge. The staff are super friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere makes you feel love you are bank in the north of Iran.
Great food
I have ordered Lamb Kebab but Beef Kebob was served. They did not say anything about changing of the food. And the Beef was also deemed to be stored in the freezer long time. They charged for Lamb not Beef even the Price of Beef was cheafer than Lamb. I did not complain about that because I did not want to harm my happy mood with my wife on my special day. Also when I asked if they have a live music before making a reservation over phone, they answered it would be there from 7 to 9 pm but actually no live music playing was there. Actually I went to this restaurant because I wanted to enjoy the live music with a glass of beer but never.
Once a favourite Persian restaurant has now turned into a lower than mediocre destination very rapidly. I visited this restaurant 3 times in the last month. The first time the food quality was so inferior compare to my many previous experiences. Second time, again food quality very low and embarrassing in front of my non Iranian gusts, however the excellent attention by the waiter made up for the food. This last visit though, was the last nail on the coffin. The food quality as bad as the previous 2 occasions, however the worse yet was the waitress. The young girl was definitely not happy with her job, and after a strange cold welcome at the beginning she continued ignoring us to the point that we could not wait to only have half of the food and pack the rest to run away. After being a customer for the past 20 years, I just paid a very low tip that s against my habit. By doing this I just break up with them and say goodby.
One of the worst food quality that I have ever tried! Poor food quality + Rude and needy staff that. I tipped them $5 am at the end she asked me don t you wanna pay more which is super unprofessional behavior. I was not happy with service at all and don t recommend this place at all. The owner is cheap
June 25, 2024 Review # 2 I would like to express my appreciation for the outstanding service that I have always received from Lely khanoom, the manager of the Take Out section. She is both professional and compassionate with a lot of enthusiasm and sense of responsibility to provide the customers with the best service. With her great ability and sense of responsibility, and efficiency in providing valuable and amazing service to customers, I believe Lely khanoom is a great asset to North restaurant. Review # 1 My family and I have been customer of North restaurant for many years, we have always enjoyed the delicious food and excellent service both in the restaurant and as takeout. When we have guests from US or other countries, for Persian food, most of the time we invite them to North restaurant. Our guests have always had a great time in North restaurant. In addition, I would like to express my appreciation for the amazing service that we have always received from agha Siamak all these years. He is both professional and compassionate with so much enthusiasm to provide the customers with the best service. With his fantastic ability, passion, and efficiency in providing valuable and excellent service to customers, I believe agha Siamak is a great asset to North restaurant. I also would like to express my appreciation for the great service that I have received in two occasions from Zahra khanoom since last month.h In these instances she listened to my concerns responsibly, patiently and was able to resolve them. She is both professional and compassionate as well.
North Restaurant is a delightful spot with charming decor that creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
I am fan of Kobideh kebab and this place has one of the best ones. Also I tried their eggplant dish and it has flavours that amazed me. The service was quick and with a smile. Will definitely come back again soon
So, I went to this place with my family today. As soon as I walked in, I realized there was no music, and it was just the sounds of people talking, which was a little awkward. First, we ordered two garlic yogurts and one Spanish yogurt for our appetizer, but the server messed up and brought two Spanish and one garlic. Then, they didnt have BBQ fish, so we asked for one rainbow trout and one whitefish. Guess what? We ended up with two dishes of trout! Im from the South Side; I know my fish! To top it off, our water never got refilled. I looked around and saw both servers standing there, drinking tea, and chatting away while we were left high and dry. I promised my parents Id be a good Persian and not complain, but , it was tough....
Were there last week. Didnt like the food. Fish was smelly a sign of old freezed fish. Kabab Barg was so bad, they added animal oil ( roghan donbeh ) on top of kababs. None of us could finish the food. Expressed our complains to manager.
Appetizers( soup, kashke Bademjan and Baghala ghatogh) were very cold. Baghala ghatogh had no salt. Kashke bademjan had alittle eggplants covered under so much fried mint and fried onion and was not tasty. Zeytun parvarde had no taste. Nothing was fresh. Looks like they had them in their fridge for at least more than couple of days. Many flies were flying around. I dont recommend it to anyone. The food quality drops compare to the past.
Lets begin with the atmosphere. I liked it; the staff is kind and friendly. The design resembles old villages in the north of Iran, which adds a charming touch. We ordered kebab torsh and vaziri with chicken and dogh. The food was good, but the kebab torsh had a strong fatty smell, and the kobide had a lot of bread. Additionally, the dogh was very simple; I was expecting much better.
We recently dined at North restaurant and had an excellent experience. The kabab torsh, kabab barg, vaziri, and koobideh were all delicious and well-prepared. Our server, Ema, was amazing and provided outstanding service, enhancing our overall dining experience. Highly recommended!
the BEST Tahdig i ve ever had in Toronto! The server was so polite and nice:) definitely coming back <3
Great place for Mediterranean cuisine.
The food was amazing. Come here for good, solid food and excellent customer service. I highly recommend this restaurant. Keep up the great work. Especially thanks for the good customer service from management, Lily, in the North Restaurant. She always cares about the customers needs.
Any time I go there flesh back me back home Thank you so much for all your knowledge. Food
Nice place, mediocre service and very poor quality and tasteless food
Highly recommended this place. Excellent food service and atmosphere. The live music from Ivan was perfect. We would have given 6 stars if we could.
Very bad
First time here. Sat on the patio on a hot day. Pleasant breeze and shade. The service was great. The chicken kebab was tender and juicy to my surprise. Definitely would recommend and will come again. :)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at North (Shomal) Restaurant and was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional food and service under the management of Mrs. Lily. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was evident. The staff greeted us warmly and promptly seated us, making us feel welcomed and comfortable. Mrs. Lily s attention to detail was apparent throughout our visit. She ensured that every aspect of our dining experience was perfect, from the ambiance to the service. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes, each sounding more delectable than the last. Our meal began with a delightful appetizer which was a perfect balance of flavors and textures. For the main course, we chose Koobideh Kabab and Ghormeh Sabzi, which was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Each bite was a testament to the chef s skill and the high-quality ingredients used. Mrs. Lily s management shines through in the impeccable service. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu, providing excellent recommendations. Our glasses were never empty, and each course was timed perfectly, allowing us to savor every dish without feeling rushed. The dessert was the perfect end to a fantastic meal. It was clear that a lot of thought and care went into every aspect of our experience, from the food preparation to the service. Overall, dining at North (Shomal) Restaurant was an exceptional experience, thanks in large part to Mrs. Lily s outstanding management. Her commitment to excellence is evident in every detail, making this restaurant a standout choice. I highly recommend North (Shomal) Restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.
I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The rice had an unpleasant smell and tasted very bad. A restaurant that represents Iranian food should offer authentic Iranian rice. Very disappointing and not worth the experience.
We were there last weekend with our guest from Germany. I highly recommend this restaurant. One of the best Persian restaurants with excellent food quality and regular service. All kinds of Iranian food, especially the northern (Shomli) ones. Be sure to try the sour kebab (Kebab Torsh). Baba Qanoosh too.
We will definitely come back. Highly recommend marinated olives and bademjoon kebab Their kebabs also tastes good Food
Fesenjoon was perfect ! The only thing I didnt like it was Rice, It seems it s not Iranian rice.
Not a bad restaurant, wide and roomy, a lot of natural light, which I like. The scent of the barbecue called me to this restaurant. The food is ok, not the best but not bad at all. Had the Zeytoon parvardeh, first time I try it so didnt know what to expect. They used canned olives and it had an impact on the dish. But overall an ok dish. Also had the soup Jo, which is basically barley soup, it was tasty and was the best dish I had there. For main course I had the Vasiri Kebab, took about 30 mins for it to arrive at my table, the meat was cooked correctly and was all in all good. It comes with rice with saffron glazing on top - It was bad and I couldnt finish it even though I love saffron. The service was very good, the waitresses are smiley, kind and accomodating - thank you Muna. They give good complimentary tea after the meal. The meal was all in all filling and satisfying. One thing to notice: The backgroung music was stuck on the same track on repeat, I wouldve appreciated listening to some Farsi music while I was there.
I went to the shomal express for pickup... I noticed the entrance door window had finger prints on it...and inside the carpet on the floor is filthy beyond recognition... I also noticed a lot of black finger prints on the fridge in the kitchen entrance...It looked like the fridge at my Mechanic shop...Can you imagine this is what you can see right up the front...I cant imagine how filthy it must be in the kitchen, where we can not see... Food wise, the rice was good but the kebobs wasnt pure minced meat, it seemed like they had added a lot of bread Crum to increase the volume of the kebob...therefore was very dry and tasteless... I will never go back there...
Food was mediocre at best! The rice and Koobideh were not tasty at all!! Barg was OK and the Sour Kabab was good. The service could be improved. It does have a very cute ambiance.
The food and service was excellent. The rice was so tasty! Waitress was so kind and she made sure we were treated well.
Terrible experience. We had a wedding dinner party and chose North to be the restaurant we would want to go. We reserved our tables with the number of guests 3 weeks beforehand only to be surprised with a change in our table once we got there on the day of the event. The manager unprofessionally told us that they relocated us to accommodate a party of 60. They could have simply notified us even a day before this, but didnt and waited for us to get there to surprise us. The manager never came to our table to apologie or atleast acknowledge her mistake, neither did she even offer a compensation to keep us happy. She knew this is a wedding dinner with our closest families and prioritized extra sales over any customer satisfaction. We used to go here alot and recommend it to others hence why we chose it for our big event, but after this we are never going to this place again.
Miss Mona was very polite and patient and the service was excellent
The food was good, but the dining table did not look very clean and good, at least you should have used a clean tablecloth to cover the table, the music was also a bit loud and sad.
One of the best Persian restaurants in Toronto. I ve never been disappointed there. Service and food are perfect! It s a great place for taking non Iranian guest and colleagues to familiarize them with Iranian food and culture.
The food was great, but the service was terrible. My son and I visited the restaurant for Mothers Day. Despite it not being busy, our inexperienced waitress struggled to serve us. My son was so upset that it completely ruined our day
Our group of 10 had the best time here. Great food and excellent service.
Really unprofessional and careless
Every things was perfect
Delicious Iranian traditional food plus lovely atmosphere and design and welcoming hosts. Loved everything Food
THIS IS WORTH THE READ TRUST ME IF YOU CARE ABOUT WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES I usually am a very generous person and have never left a negative review simply because I don t have the time or energy to. However as an Irani and having this place be a regular location for my family over the years it s absolutely abysmal how much of a decline North restaurant has taken. I no longer live in Toronto so when I go back to visit my family this is where we go as it s reminiscent. However last weekend when I went home to visit them we were met with distraught, disgust, and our pockets absolutely rinsed for what we received. The atmosphere I will say is still very nice, nothing compares to how nice the building itself is. We were met with minimal service and one of our orders was forgotten, which is okay, I know mistakes happen as someone who s worked in the food service industry but I also know how customers should be addressed when mistakes happen in the food industry. Instead of an apology and a simple we will have one out immediately we were told that they never received such an order leaving a little kid upset and hungry waiting for a plate of his own. However no one was particularly rude so the service gets 2 stars for showing our table, taking our orders and giving us our cheques. Now onto the food. As an Irani who s grown up on food close to one s culture, I ve always had a love for the food and have been very lenient with restaurants as long as the flavours are there! However, the chicken kebab that all iranis know is meant to be marinated in a mix of spices with saffron, was simply seasoned with salt, pepper, and turmeric so it looked like saffron. That may not be the full list of their seasonings however thats exactly how the chicken tasted, dry and like pepper. Now onto the koobideh, an absolute Persian classic, close to flavourless, quite beefy, lacking proper seasoning, same with the barg kebab, tough, unseasoned and extremely disappointing. If I wanted tough meat with salt and pepper I would ve bought an instant meal from the dollar store. Now rice! How the wonderful ways that us Persians make basmati rice, buttery with a nice topping of saffron. The rice was nothing special, clearly not fresh, the tadic was very hard to bite through almost plasticy and the saffron topping was clearly just turmeric, no smell or taste of saffron, disappointing really. They ve also drastically dropped their portions as it used to be about a quarter of the plate of rice, has now been depleted to about a quarter of what it was before. Not to mention the INSANE price hike, for what it is, being regular food as it s anything but Iranian food, it s simply not worth 30-40$ a plate. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DARBAND RESTAURANT INSTEAD!!! For the price you pay you ll get a welcoming, authentic, and delicious experience!
Fresh food and delicious.
North Restaurant in Toronto exceeded all expectations during my visit for the Iranian New Year celebration. Despite some negative reviews, my experience was nothing short of fantastic. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for marking Norouz. The food was outstanding, showcasing the rich flavors and aromas of Iranian cuisine. Every dish was a delight to the senses, and the service was impeccable. I highly recommend North Restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable dining experience. Vegetarian options: There are lots of Vegetarian food there!
I ordered beans and rice with neck, after half an hour my food came and the neck was completely cold and it was clear that it came from the freezer. My companions had finished their food and I was still talking to the server about the food. It was a very bad night
We would like to thank Shomal restaurant; ( ) for delicious food and appetizers, with unique fresh breads and unbeatable marinaded olives with fresh. Shomal restaurant has an excellent service. A great environment for many events, specially if you have non Iranian guest, anniversaries, even colleague s gathering. Our special thanks to Mr Amir who s hosted us and served lunch; a polite and well mannered gentleman with warm welcoming attitude who is experienced in his work, Ms Fataneh who reserved a nice n cozy table for us. Thanks to all team who are managing this place perfectly. Certainly we will go to this restaurant again. Highly recommend
Used to be great, but now food quality is horrible, the beef the chicken the rice, dry, low quality meat, no taste or bad taste, no marination, no saffron, went from best persian food to worst in less than a year.
There was two people being trained to be come waiters however, it was hard to get anyone s attention, and it seemed like a few of them were just standing around and socializing with one another. When we are desperately trying to get attention. Also, we ordered full meals but we didn t know that the meals will come with Tahdig so we ordered an extra meal that was a stew that came with tahdig. Would ve been nice if the waiter had mentioned that our actual meals will come with tahdig that way we wouldn t have had to order that one extra one that we all shared. It was a lot of food. Asked the waiter if he can bring us out, radish and the extras that usually come with the larger meals. He only brought me raw onions and parsley. We also had to add salt to everything. Been coming here for many many years not sure if I would go back after my last experience.
Amazing taste Unique style Only thing Waiters seems in rush Food : 5/5
You will never get disappointed with the low quality food this place provide. I have gave this place a few try in the past few years and it gets worst and worst! food is expensive ( considering the quality) PLEASE IMPROVE YOUR QUALITY
A good persian cuisine in the city. The Barg Kebab was so soft and tender. The Koobideh was so delicious and I think the portion is good enough for two normal persons to share. The quality of food is very good. The only point is about the restaurant decoration which looks like its messy.
calm place with hospital crews and delicious persian foods As like as you eats in a northern village restaurant. Music is off
North and its employees were very accommodating when my large extended family had dinner here last week. They were patient and kind with our large group. The food was fresh and flavourful. I highly recommend North! Kid-friendliness: We had a lot of kids in our group and they were super patient with them!
We went as a group of 75 people and they were very accommodating and nice. Food was great, service was great and everyone had a great time. Highly recommended! Food
Delicious food, great service, and friendly staff - its highly recommended.

Fresh, flaky white fish is expertly seasoned and grilled to perfection, resulting in a dish that is both light and flavorful. Equally impressive is the chicken kebab, a classic Iranian dish that exemplifies the art of grilling. Tender pieces of marinated chicken are skewered and cooked over an open flame, resulting in juicy and succulent meat with a hint of smokiness. In addition to the exquisite flavors, North restaurant also prides itself on its warm and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect destination for a casual lunch or a celebratory dinner. Whether youre looking to explore the rich culinary traditions of Iran or simply enjoy a delicious meal with friends and family
Sadly not the same quality as before. The presentation is great but the taste wasn t there.
Asked for water. They said ok two bottles of water. You know, you don t think it s a big deal. Just two bottles of water. We weren t told the option between tap or bottled. Ended up getting charged $9 for two bottles of water. Not sparkling water, not some Fiji water, $9 for same thing you can get at Costco for 40 cents. The kebabs aren t what they were. They re extremely fatty now. Machine pressed. There are way better options now for Persian. I wouldn t recommend this place anymore.
I love this restaurant. I have lots of good memories in this restaurant. However, its time to change the design inside. its getting bearing. Also, Kabab koobidehs does not take like what it was before. Food : 4/5
Very delicious
Kebab tast very bad actully no tast and Its smells fishy... Slow service and waiting forever. Bread was so dry and looks old. We keep asking for bread they bring one only per time and old. Very bad experience was before the best now i never recommend.... 1 start cos there was no zero star option.
Big difference between before and now . right now is no taste of kebab at all even the rice is not ok ..nothing like before not the kebab not rice and not the service so i dont recommended at all
I have been in this restaurant before, around a year ago and this time went with our friends for husbands birthday. The service was aweful. We were waiting so long and most of the time we have to ask Multiple times for our orders or a glass of water which I think should be served whenever customer arrives no matter what is going to order. I really disappointed this time . I can say mm aybe they didnt have enough personnel and waiters as we were there from 4 to 7 in weekend, but when you want to reserve they say theyre open from morning to midnight, so this is not acceptable at all. I wish manager to see my review and make better choices for business as I always we any to see this restaurants on top and always a safe option to go
Best persian kabab in town. The quality of food and service has significantly improved from previous years
We were here for celebrating persian new year. Kabab Torsh was really good but the Baghalighatogh could be more tasty. There was a DJ for that night and the atmosphere was great. We had so much fun. Totally I recommend it but it is a little bit expensive.
Great food and cozy atmosphere with professional staff. I literally enjoyed my time there. Tasty, juicy and fresh food. Although it was jammed with customers but staff did a great job on the front line and the kitchen staff above all did a fantastic job. Highly recommend this place.
It s been 5 years since I went to Shomal restaurant and ordered the Gheyme tahdig which Ive never found in any other restaurant something that tastes even close to this restaurants food
The food was good, the white fish was so small only see fish wings :) which you can t eat and the rest is so small and have small bones, when u eat should be careful, anyway overall not bad a little pricey , I will suggest please do a bit of renovations when you eat and look at floor the paint comes off, the paint of tables comes off too, it is a nice restaurant but need to update a little when u eat and look at old paint which is coming off feels not comfortable and enjoyable for customers to sit there and eat ,it doesn t make the restorant looks so good too , thank you
We were here for a company lunch, foods were delicious and the service staff and atmosphere was great.
Really good food, but really really great service from the staff , we ve been here a few times .. this time it was really different , we felt welcomed and appreciated - a big special thank you to Amir for making it a special night for us .
The chicken Kabab was not fresh and it didn t taste good, half burnt, koobideh kabab was way raw and so dry, the vegetables that served was almost dried and didn t taste good! Service was ok but still the food is the main purpose of going to a restaurant!
On a late Saturday night, we entered into the restaurant, Expecting a lively atmosphere, but found it mostly vacant. Seated near the hallway, we politely asked for a change. The server did mot have much understanding of the menue and different available items With anticipation, I ordered the baghalipolo and Mahiche, Only to be informed of a 30-minute wait, a disappointing hitch. We settled for the koobideh, a minced beef kabab instead, Yet, to our dismay, it arrived with a lackluster taste, Excessively salty, it failed to meet our expectations, But the Bare kabab managed to salvage some satisfaction. The establishment, on the whole, appeared clean and inviting, But the state of the washroom was a disheartening sighting. A disaster !
Very tasty food. Friendly service. Zahra, a waitress, offers great service and help.
Prices are ridiculously high tip starts at %18 and finally be aware of the salad option they actually charge arm and legs
The food used to be better before COVID.
We had an absolutely delightful experience at this wonderful restaurant! The Parisian cuisine is very delicious! The inviting atmosphere enhances the dining pleasure, creating a perfect setting for a memorable meal. The service provided by the staff was impeccable, adding to the overall charm of the place. I highly recommend this gem for anyone seeking an authentic and delightful dining experience!
We enjoyed our dinner time a lot. Food was excellent! Especially koobideh and Lamb chops
We placed an order on UberEats and received a call from North Restaurant, notifying us that the chosen food item was designated for Eyde Norouz, prompting us to cancel the order. While its understandable if the item was intended for a specific occasion, it raises questions about why it remained on the menu. UberEats explained they couldnt refund our money, attributing the responsibility to the restaurant. However, when we contacted the restaurant, a woman informed us that they lacked the ability to cancel the order. Unfortunately, our money was not refunded, and this experience left us dissatisfied. There was no apology or compensation for the inconvenience caused by what seemed to be an oversight on the restaurants part.
The food pick up is horrible. The person handing out the food in the takeout was extremely rude. Took 30 minutes to hand me a simple food with bread. This place has gone down hill.
It was excellent food and great waitress, her name is Ema. She was attentive and provided good suggestions for the meal. I highly recommend the place.
The North Restaurant offers decent food, yet its standout flaw is the abysmal service. The staffs slow and inattentive demeanor, often engrossed in personal conversations rather than attending to patrons, detracts from the dining experience. Additionally, the jarring, loud house music at 7pm disrupted the ambiance, impacting the overall dinner atmosphere. The Koobideh kabob, usually a benchmark dish for me, fell short of expectations, suggesting room for improvement in the culinary offerings.
This place is amazing in every way. Amazing food and excellent service. Our server Emma was very welcoming and friendly she made sure that we had a great night and enjoyed every moment. A place that I would definitely recommend to anyone.
Everything was good and great
The food and the service was excellent. It is a really enjoyable environment. The personnel were very nice, especially Ema, who took care of our party. Five stars because I can not give six.
The quality of their food recently has dropped, I saw their Koobideh Kebob has more onions mixed with ground beef causing the meet part of it not too cook well and looks pink in the core area. I didnt expect that in my last visit, they were not like that before I hope they correct it. Also, I didnt like the fact that they pre-programmed 18% tip in their payment.
Our server(Emma) was superfriendly and attentive, with great service
Been going here for years with my family, service is great and the food is classic. They make sure to spice it well and the plate sizes are fair.
Traditional food is great .
A lovely and tasty food, and the sparks of Enma made us feels we were eating not in a restaurant but home. Def with recommend this place and ask for Emma to serve you as she also speak Spanish!!!
Tasty food. Fast and good service. Plenty of parking. Fairly priced. Food
Unfortunately the quality of the food has become worse. They are using low quality Indian rice instead of the Iranian rice which is the best. The price is super expensive compared with the other Iranian restaurants. I will never go back there Food : 1/5
Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian Food
One of the best Persian restaurants in Toronto. Excellent lamb, very delicious dips, a very attentive service
The food is great but the service is not very good. The staff keep cleaning the floor while you are eating...
We had great night at North restaurant. Delicious food and amazing people with great customer service
Terrible food quality for the 4th time ,my friend invited me recently and I told him about the food and service and my experiences of the past, but he insisted, now his convined and he said never again. Just dont waste your time and money in this awful place.
The stew was great. Presentation and taste 10/10. Kebabs could have been little more juicier and little less salty
Good
Very friendly staff, food is amazing, Highly recommend !
Delicious food with excellent service.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. I liked the architecture and interior design of this restaurant. It has symbols from Iranian dining culture. Ordered kashke bademjan, Kabab torsh, and Koobideh. Kashke bademjan, in my opinion, is their signature and was cooked and designed professionally. I recommend kabob torsh, a dish from Kaspian See region in NORTH of Iran. Koobideh was okay. I liked the saffron rice and fresh lavash bread.
Im still looking for my waitress!! Let me know when she shows up!!
Our waiter, Mehran, was fantastic despite a bit of a wait for our meals. He made our dining experience extra special with his great service. Super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.
Compared to other Persian restaurants in GTA, it was not good at all. We ordered Kabab Barg, Baghali Polo Mahiche and Koobide. They all smelled like fat and were not delicious. The waiter was not so helpful but the atmosphere was nice, inspired by the north of Iran.
The waitress was slow, they brought mast mosir and they brought the bread 30 minutes later. The food was okay but who wants hot pepers. Give us some onion and butter.
Extremely poor service!! May be because we re not Persians they didn t even care to serve water. I could go for 0 stars.. very unprofessional.
North restaurant serves the best Persian food I ve ever had. The service is on point, the atmosphere is enjoyable, and most importantly the food is always delicious. Highly recommend North restaurant!
We chose to celebrate a milestone anniversary at this restaurant. IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE FAIL!!!! Had to wait a few minutes before a greater appeared to seat us. I actually questioned myself as to what was happening because there were only 9 other people in the establishment. Waitress/greeter came out from the back and just stared at us .I had to ask to be seated. Again I was wondering what was going on?!? She gestured for us to take a seat over there or over there We had two choices, a table for 12 or a table for 4. We chose the table for 4. We had to walk ourselves over to the table and I questioned myself once again because she wasn t clear. She just kinda pointed over and to top it off the table was clearly not cleaned prior to us sitting rice pieces and oily smears were present. Oh my! We asked for 2 glasses of water to start which we never received. We asked several times for these glasses of water. Our orders finally came, They had my partner s order completely wrong after all the waiting. The waitress argued with my partner and then realized that an error had actually been made. She indeed apologized and told us to make it up she will give us a tea at the end on the house (what a joke) but we would still have to wait another 15 minutes to prepare the correct dish. What?????? .. ..So was she expecting one person to start and finish their meal while the other person watched until their dinner arrived???? Oh my! No satisfactory solution to turn the situation into a pleasant one. This waitress had no idea how things work. She was very aloof; was more concerned about changing the music Table was dirty, meal was incorrect and we never did get those waters (in case you were wondering) . NO UNDERSTANDING OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO COMMON SENSE! Won t be back. Was a luxury restaurant at some point; I have actually visited in the past; now, the QUALITY AND SERVICE is more like a fast food joint. Very disappointed. This place lost its class. Not upscale, but decor is still very nice! That was the only nice thing about this place. You have been cautioned . I NO LONGER RECOMMEND! So sorry for the poor review.
Old interior , poor service, food was good.
The vegetarian food options were bland and over-priced. I ordered the veggie kebab and it was just plain, grilled vegetables with no flavour at all, served with some plain rice. Also the fish tank in the front of the restaurant was so overcrowded, I felt so bad for the fish. I dont see myself coming back again. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options were available but werent appetizing and were over-priced.
I was visiting from the US with my family to see friends and family this past week. Some friends invited us to eat here and we had an excellent time. The restaurant looks awesome and is very roomy. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! The yogurt and cucumbers and yogurt and shallots were both delicious. The portions were huge (the kind you are expected to take some home with you) and the presentation very nice. If we get a chance to visit Toronto again well definitely visit again! Thanks for a great experience!
We did adieu dinner to one of our lovely colleagues loved by everyone tonight. Shes the one that recommended North Restaurant to share the authentic Persian food with us. Shes right! Everything is wonderful. Food, service and our server, Zara is amazing. Thank you for accommodating and tolerating our craziness and fun group. We appreciate the staffs friendliness, home feeling ambiance, and sense of urgency to our needs. Highly recommended
Food was amazing, come here for good solid food.
great food and very good customer service
The price of food is high and the quality is very ordinary. low grade Indian rice, I ordered 4 servings of food, and I told them to bring 2 servings without rice, when I gave the bill, I saw that the amount of rice was not deducted, and when I asked, they said that it would not be deducted, so I said to take my rice in a bowl. The tip started at 18%, which made me pay the tip in cash to someone who was more friendly. The environment is very big and good, but the light is low, and the decor is old
Compared to other Persian restaurants it wasnt a good restaurant. We ordered Kabab Torsh and Olive Special (Zeitoon parvarde) and both disappointed me. Their toilets were also not clean.
Delicious food and lovely relaxed atmosphere, will be coming back another day
Koobideh and Kebab torh are awful but service is really good.
Good and delicious food but expensive A lot to choose from. But if you want to introduce a none Iranian guest to Persian food the dont offer a proper mix of everything specially on the side of appetizers. Service is good but not enough on the side of language and making good connection to none Persian speaking guests. Decoration is unique and beautiful but lacking some lighting to bring them out.
This is my first time trying Iranian food specifically. The place is a lot larger than you would imagine, but the decor and ambiance is very inviting and unique. We ordered the baba ganoush, the hummus and the lamb. The baba ganoush was the best part - creamy garlicky and delicious! The hummus was incredibly bland. It took me by surprise just how flavorless it was. They also only gave us one pita for both dips, which was disappointing. The lamb dish was yummy though. Come here for the baba ganoush!
Probably the best charcoal grilled meat Ive had in Canada! Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. Will be back!
Good service, and friendly staff. Food quality is basic, rice is not Persian (seems like to be Indian rice). Not coming back. One time thing.
It s our family go-to place. The food is consistently delicious; the service is mostly good too.
We had a gathering yesterday in Shomal restaurant . Everything was great Mehrdad did a great job Food
The quality of food was not good and price was high.
The most delicious barg kebab ever! Tender and juicy.
Very expensive for what they may offer in terms of taste.
I did not want to write this and decided to call first and talk to the server (who happens to be the manager). She was defensive over the phone, so I am writing a review for her. We are their regular customer (more than 12 years now), and we get okay service and sometimes lousy service every time we go there, but we still go because the food is good; moving forward, we only go to Gilaneh or Shishlik, who have excellent service. We went to this place three times this past week. Today, we ordered two appetizers and kebabs, but she did not give us any bread. We got the bread they take to all tables with butter, even if you do not order an appetizer. So that usually comes to your table as soon as you sit down. Later, we asked her for more bread; she refused to give us bread for our appetizers (I paid almost 40 dollars for the two appetizers but no bread and my bill was nearly 150, which is fine. We love paying for food, but she refused to give a bread over such a bill). It is embarrassing and disappointing for the restaurant to be this cheap. Instead of being apologetic, when I called her, she was defensive. This differs from how you treat a regular customer; even non-regular ones should be treated equally. We will never go back to Gilaneh and Shishlik because respect matters. Her tip started at 18%, which I reluctantly paid after that lousy service.
very bad service an they dont care about you and their koobideh were so bad and chicken kebab was so salty
Love the stuffed eggplant with walnuts. Thank you
You guys used to have the best chelo kabob in town what happened? You increased the price and lowered the quality. Very disappointed
I came to this restaurant in 2019 and it was brilliant, when in 2023 returned to have the same experience, faced an awful food which was way expensive. Service was somehow good and atmosphere the same as before. I was not surprised because many Iranian restaurants are like this, they ruin their reputation by greed.
