By far the best sushi in Vernon!! I just love the atmosphere, food, and the staff here! Great food and service every time. We eat at the restaurant often as well as do take out from time to time. They even open the door for you when you are leaving with your take out order! Definitely a gem in Vernon! If you haven t eaten here then you are missing out!!

Very authentic and different flavours

Not worth the money. I went to OHKIM a week previous and the rolls were bigger, better priced and a bigger selection. Personally I wouldn t go here again or recommend it. With the star rating this place has I was expecting to be blown away. I walked away disappointed.

I m Celiac and Kawakubo staff always go above and beyond to accommodate me. Have never had a reaction and sushi is always delicious!

I cannot rave enough about this restaurant! Excellent food, incredible service and amazing atmosphere. The staff are very knowledgeable about the food and theres options for different dietary restrictions including celiac, which is hard to find with sushi at times, but they are very careful with cross contamination and give you gluten free soy sauce too if needed.

Always fresh, quick, reasonable prices very friendly staff

This is easily the best sushi we have ever had! My husband and I were visiting for 3 days and ate here twice it was SO good! I have a bunch of allergies and food sensitivities and they took such good care of me. Miriam made sure everybody knew what to do with my order in regards to my allergies. She took such good care of us and deserves a raise!!

As someone who s lived in Japan for 7 years and is therefore a Japanese food snob, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Very nice and friendly staff, too.

Service and Atmosphere are excellent. Food is good except rice, and menu is not much varieties to select. Recommend Sashimi, but if anyone loves Ikura like me, they have limit order. $40/person in average depending what you order. If you are hungry, Japanese restaurant is always NOT your first option . Parking is not convenient unless you can find street parking spots. $1/ hr parking is not bad. You have to call for reservation otherwise not seats

Amazing sushi spot here in Vernon, everything is made well and quality of fish is very good as well. Staff and ownership always make you feel welcome. My favorite order is the Boston roll and the spicy salmon roll, highly recommended!

This place is so amazing. My husband and I recently went here for my birthday. The food was fresh and fairly priced. The wait wasnt long, and the servers and workers in the restaurant were all pleasant. Definitely will be back.

I had dinner here tonight with 5 other people. All of the food was incredible and the service was fantastic! We had a bunch of different rolls, bowls, sashimi and appies for the table. Everyone enjoyed everything. Great job! 5 stars for sure!

The food is amazing! Always fresh and has so much flavor. People tell me about other places they feel has great sushi but I always respond by asking if they have tried Kawakubo. Once they have tried here then I will listen and see if they still feel other places have good sushi :) This place has the best sushi I have ever had! Their curry roll is one of my favorites! The service is always friendly and inviting too!

Fantastic service, gorgeous food. Well done and thank you for all of your hard work. My daughter and I are enjoying a carpet picnic of the most delicious sushi rolls (Green Dragon, Rainbow and Ninja) our favourite chopped scallop cone, toro sashimi and a few more amazing items. Oh- and th ponzu sauce is to die for with the chicken karaage.

We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was great, better than any sushi place in Kelowna. The staff was fast and friendly and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant was well maintained and clean and had good vibes.

When I first moved to Vernon last year, it took me no time at all to find Kawakubo, it was the name out of everyones mouth when it came to the best sushi. And they were right. This is definitely one of the best spots in the Okanagan. The sushi is SO FRESH, everytime. The tastes are so incredible everything is always made to perfection. I eat there weekly now, and the staff and Miriam, make me feel so welcome everytime I come in the door. Everything about this place is 10 / 10 !!! The experience, for our first time , was impressive. We just moved to Vernon and know our Jananese food! We are addicted to it. The quality and freshness was unbeatable and thanks to Miriam, the lovely and very knowledgeable waitress, she contributed largely in making our first time a very pleasant and memorable one. We will be back and highly recommend Kawakubo to all our friends. EXCELLENT!

Kawakubo is always a great place to go. Its always busy, and the staff is amazing and friendly. If youre looking for a gluten free sushi restaurant where you can have their rolls as well as the donburi bowls, you are in luck! They have also only the wild salmon vs farmed salmon as well which is a fantastic addition. Cant say enough about the restaurant and how positive the experiences are always Dietary restrictions: Amazing for Gluten Free!! They take the allergy seriously and will get a whole new set up all cleaned just to make sure your rolls are good. Gluten free mayo and Wasabi for the rolls as well as gluten free miso soup which is hard to find! Parking: Street parking

This was my first time at Kawakubo. It is really good quality Japanese food. It gets busy by 6pm so make sure youre here before that to guarantee a seat for yourself. The staff and the owner are all very friendly and pleasant. Prior to tip, our meal cost $39.90 for summertime rolls, yam tempura cone, miso soup, scallop cone, another roll, and a Sprite. The food was absolutely delicious. They have a big menu. I highly recommend this restaurant. There are so many great Japanese restaurants in downtown Vernon which is great to see.

By far the best Sushi I ve had in a long time, everything from the suggested pan fried edamame, miso soup and salad starter through the Sashimi and Sushi platters. All finished off with the ice cream sampler!! Black Sesame ice cream is one thing I ve never had before, it was a perfect finish off to our night. If your lucky enough to get Ashton for your server be prepared for one of the most attentive and knowledgeable servers to grace the serving world. If I could give more then 5 stars I would. This is now my go to for sushi when in Vernon.

We ve been to sushi restaurants all around Kamloops, Vernon and Kelowna This is the best sushi I have had. The rice is bright, never mushy, perfect. We enjoyed a variety of rolls which were comprised perfectly; no cheapo sauces or overbearing extras. The sauces and toppings were well thought out and all delicious (The spicy salmon roll was our favourite) I really loved the service as well. Such a warm welcome, felt very comfortable. Will be back again. Vegetarian options: Vegetarians would also love what this place has to offer, a great selection. We had the summertime roll - flavours infused together with total class.

Excellent service and delicious food

The service was incredible. I wish I got our servers name. My husband and I were having a date night with our 1 year old. Our server checked on us multiple times, made our daughter smile, and was so kind. Our food came quickly and it was delicious!The atmosphere was cozy and the restaurant is very clean. Our baby made a total mess of the floor. Baby hurricane..we felt a little guilty and embarrassed for the mess. Our server was so awesome and told us to relax. Amazing amazing amazing. To the server who was there at 4pm on December 20th, thank you. And thank you to the chefs for the delicious meal!

Good sushi and good portions

Kawakubo uses quality ingredients for their sushi. I was quite impressed with their rolls and the variety that they offer. I ordered takeout and they forgot the soy sauce. Sushi without soy sauce just isnt the same, unfortunately.

I have to say, I ve tried all of the sushi places here and Kawakubo is by far the best! Not once was I disappointed with anything on the menu. The fish is SO fresh. I highly recommend!

Always amazing staff and going above and beyond during Covid to deliver the same great food - I cant wait to be able to sit in again and support this awesome local restaurant. Akane and Steve are so fantastic. They remember their customers and deliver a great experience every time. Take-out/delivery or wherever were at during these times, well worth supporting this restaurant and the people who work there.

Best sushi place in town. Large, thick, fresh slices of fish in sashimi and nigiri. A good selection of rolls from small, one ingredient rolls, all the way up to large fancy ones you cant fit in your mouth. Good atmosphere and generally good service. You can sit at the sushi bar if you prefer.

Such amazing food! They are always so welcoming, as soon as you walk in someone rushes over to welcome you with a big smile. Their food is the best Japanese in Vernon. Every time they out do them selves. Always fresh! The owners are so great and run an amazing restaurant!

went for lunch and was extremely disappointed. I have eaten in hundreds of Japanese restaurants and found the food to be substandard. The rice was old and was not prepared on a daily basis. The wasabi came as a round crushed ball and was dry and hard to use. The miso soup contained all kinds of flavours that probably should not have been in a soup. But most of all, I found that there prices were outlandish and very, very over priced. The prices were the hardest things in this restaurant to digest. I am sorry but would not recommend this place.

Moved to Vernon from Vancouver a few years ago - We order regularly from Kawakubo -excellent service and excellent sushi - beautifully presented. Gluten free options as well. We usually order Boston roll, salmon avocado or shrimp California rolls. The Boston donburi bowl is also excellent and I ve enjoyed the curry roll as well.
