First Authentic Thai Food Restaurant in Vernon
The Boa-Thong Thai restaurant has been a Vernon staple for decades and is well loved by locals. On our last visit my girlfriend and I shared the Hang Pak Ruammit yellow Thai curry in coconut milk and coconut rice, mildly spiced and delicious. No tap beers but I always love a Singha, which reminds me of the original Heineken lager. The owners and staff are hands-on and very accommodating of any special needs of their patrons.
Fantastic Thai food. Definitely a favourite in Vernon for very good reason. They also have jewellery made by family in Thailand that they sell at the counter.
You enter off Main Street and make your way up the stairs. The interior is dated with green carpet and red and green furniture reminiscent of the late 1970s with the accompanying musty food smell that comes with old places. It is a large dining room but not very busy at 1:20pm. They open for lunch until 2pm, close, then open for dinner at 4:30. We order 2 Lunch combo menu items at $13 plus either an eggroll or chicken satay and a drink for $5 more. Service was quick and friendly. Delivery of our meals was super fast and very hot. We found the chicken in both our meals overcooked but the sauces tasty. The egg roll was excellent. The shrimp perfect. The chicken satay was overcooked but good flavour. However, while the pad tai was good, the other dish was swimming in sauce. Portion was good. Price was excellent. We would come back to try the other dishes but this is not a restaurant I would put on my crave worthy restaurant list.
That was a great lunch, chicken veg and rice pad with 3 pepper heat also added a couple tasty chicken satay. Really hit the spot on a chilly day. Interior is dated, kitchy and clean. Dont let the stairs up from the street scare you off having an excellent meal here. Next time, dinner.
Ordered fried rice with squid that was yumm 8/10. Soup 6.5/10. Nooodles with chicken 5/10.
Tried it for the first time this evening. Got number 40. The seafood dish with coconut rice in yellow curry. It was SOOO GOOD. Spice was a nice mild but so much flavour. Highly recommend.
Excellent service. Great food. First time I dined here was around 15 years ago. Still the same great food and service through the years. The decor is a bit a bit dated but adds to the charm. Lovely authentic Thai in Vernon.
Great Thai food. Two of us had lunch specials; Gang Pak Ruammit with chicken and Pad Black Bean. We added on Chinese tea and a spring roll for an extra $3.00. Both dishes had excellent flavours! Food was fresh tasting and quick to be served. Prices for lunch were very reasonable for quantity and quality. We will definitely return to try other items on their menu.
Fresh vegetables, friendly service.
Best Pad Thai in Vernon!
Very relaxed environment with excellent food and memorable decor. I would highly recommend to my friends and family!
Ive been going here since i was a kid and it always hits so hard i couldn t recommend this place enough i recommend the cashew chicken its my favourite
Solid thai place, not super authentic but lots of menu options and good food overall.
Tried calling to put in an order for pickup an hour before close as they re my mom s favourite, and it s Mother s Day. In turn they refused to take my order. I m very disappointed in the service here and I hope they can learn to treat their customers better
Phoned in order to be delivered. Thai satays, gang Leung (yellow curry), pad Thai, coconut rice, and Thai iced tea. Ordered one Thai iced tea, received an extra and was charged for it. Had this delivered to a hotel, there was no eating utensils or plates included with the order. Tracking down these essentials to eat was an adventure. Everything tasted bland. No spice at all. Gang Leung was watery. Pad Thai tasted like vinegar. Total bill was $95.20 including delivery fee and a $10 tip to the driver who dropped it. Very disappointing experience.
Good service. Decent food. The atmosphere would benefit from a makeover.
It was very good dinner
I went in for lunch today and got the beef pad. Thai. I paid for it upfront, and I went to sit down. She brought me over my lunch in a bag and I said oh I thought I was eating here and she said no. Anyway, so I took it to go it was so greasy you just felt terrible afterwards. I won t be back
Very very very good tastie food. Great service too. . My favorite restaurant in vernon. Wish they opened earlier on Saturdays though.
This is the best home style Thai food around! If you dont eat here Im sorry you missed out
This was our go to for Thai food, but something has changed...... $16 soup that was watery and minus any content of former lovely rich coconut and chicken and lemongrass and ginger. Couldnt even taste the ginger or lemongrass. Mostly mushrooms and nothing else but watery almost tasteless broth. Had to complain and was treated poorly over the phone. Offered another soup after I asked for money back. Why would I get another soup when it should have been done right the first time. Cheap owner wont give refund. I dont want your tasteless soup. Your Pad Thai is nothing like the former Pad Thai that we loved. Lack of flavour and chicken, very boring noodles and a bit of tofu. Bland presentation with no bang of Thai flavour. Sorry not impressed and wont be coming back after being treated poorly and paying too much for lack of food as its clear where they are cutting costs but raising prices. Very sad to see Boa Thong go downhill.
We had the #9 soup and the #32 coconut curry dish. The soup was one of the most flavorful broths Ive ever tasted! A beautiful blend of lime, coconut and mushrooms with tender chicken chunks... Delicious! The coconut curry dish we had with prawns. While the flavor was definitely there, it could have used some more colorful veggies, such as snow peas or broccoli. There was too much bamboo shoots and onions for my liking. But it was still fresh and tasty. It looks like this is a family run business, with the younger generation running the front end and the parents in the kitchen cooking. They came out to thank is for buying their food (takeout). That was nice to see. Although their prices have increased (along with every other business post-pandemic), I am happy to continue to support this local family business. They were one of the only restaurants open on new years day!
First time eating here, I had Kaow Pad with Chicken. It was very tasty and a good sized portion! Staff was very friendly and the inside of the restaurant is interesting (in a good way)! I am definitely going to eat here again!
We love this little place. The food is so good & the staff is always friendly & attentive. It s been around forever bc it s a (somewhat) hidden gem!
Super clean restaurant. 10/10 service. Super friendly & our server was very attentive:-) will definitely be back. Also great prices on drinks Vegetarian options: Spring rolls were awesome
The pad Thai is is delicious, I will be eating here regularly now!
Rustic place, great thai food, my favorite, worth a visit
The dishes had no flavour. They were essentially steamed veggies in tomato sauce. We were tired and hungry, looking forward to a warm, wholesome Thai meal. Really disappointed after paying so much for it.
Ok, Ill start with the venue. The restaurant smells of old carpets and wood; kind of dank and the windows were very dirty. The table and cutlery were clean. Service was good and friendly. The food though, nothing Thai about it; huge disappointment. I know and love Thai food, I have studied it and even cook it. Thai food should have a complex mixture of sweet, spicy, sour, fishy and other savoury flavours that create fireworks in your mouth and taste buds. I wouldnt say that the food here was bland, but neither of the plates we ordered used any of the correct spices or produced any of the expected flavours. My impression was that the food tasted like Chinese cuisine trying to be Thai but failed miserably! Btw, Pad Kee Mao is a spicy stir fry dish made with rice noodles and Thai basil and has a very unique and distinct taste profile; the one served at Boa-Thong has no relationship with it either in ingredients or flavour.
As the Thai food options are lacking in my hometown of Kamloops, my wife and I try and stop in at Boa Thong as often as we can when passing through Vernon. Their dishes are memorable and so tasty .
Tried this place today. I had one of the soups and I seriously think it was the most digesting thing Ive ever eaten. It literally smelt and tasted like puke.. I totally lost my appetite. Im only now just getting the after taste out of my mouth after puking
Basic Thai, good food, comfortable restaurant. Not super spicy so if you like that kind of kick, you might have to request it. Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is up a flight of stairs and I didnt see an elevator.
Delicious food, friendly knowledgeable staff, clean and welcoming Dietary restrictions: Willing to work with your allergies Food : 5/5 |
I have eaten here quite a few times but moved away a year and a half ago. Last weekend, I was in Vernon and I decided to pick up an order of Pad Thai. It was the worst Pad Thai I have ever had. The tofu was burnt and chewy, the noodles were hard, the shrimp was rubbery and tasted awful, there was no garnish of the nuts and it just did not look appetizing at all. I ate it, it made me sick but I had no other option as I wasnt going to spend more money on more food. I rarely buy take out. I will not be back there again. Very sad because this was my go to for Thai food. It did not look like the Pad Thai that it should look like. I wish I could post a pic because it wasnt even nice to look at. Normally I dont complain but this was worthy.
Some of the best Thai food in town! The curry (all if them) are great. Pad Thai is nice, its a little plain but I do like it that way myself, nothing overpowering. Lastly their fried rice is quite nice as well.
Great food , Good service.
Amazing food and our server was absolutely wonderful! I will definitely be coming back!
Food was fairly bland and ok at best and the delivery charge quite high. Portions were small. Im sure it is tough running a restaurant with costs these days, but the quality has to be better. Maybe dine in is better? Just order Indian for delivery...
Good food, service could be improved.. perhaps just busier than expected?
Always good food! One of our favorites in Vernon
I love coming here, the ambience is incredible. Boa-Thong is like stepping outside of Vernon and into a new place. The Staff are usually wonderful to say the least and always have a smile. I love any dish they have with Peanut sauce. The meals are more than enough for one person, so youre not left wanting more.
My favourite restaurant in all of Vernon. I like to support local as much as possible and the owners are the sweetest and the food is always delicious. My only complaint is that I don t get to eat here as often as I would like living in lumby. Hands down the best food in town!
Worst experience ever! There was a loogie on the window that had 10 dead fruit flies in it. Shouldve left at that moment. The service was horrible even with 1 other customer there. The food seemed like it was reheated and not very good. The restaurant smelled like mold. I came to celebrate at what I thought was a nice place and was completely disappointed
Amazing food and amazing waiter. Although I am not Thai, but the thai food here was definitely some of the more authentic ones. The waiter who severed us was also very fun to talk to. We arrived a bit late and they were still happy to extend the hours for us.
Wonderful as always. Great service and better food
I havent been here in years but my partner and I decided to try it again. Really delicious, varied and piping hot Thai specialties came out of the kitchen promptly. Great flavors and all of the curries were very different. We loved the Lemon Grass Chicken! Our favourite. We talked to the chef- he is Thai. We chatted and talked with the excellent waiter about out trips to Thailand. -Great service. -Great food. -Great value.
Edit: Had much better second experience. I blame the first one on COVID, because the second time was much better. Food was great. I hate to give such low reviews, but this has to be called out. This isnt proper Thai food to say the least. The flavor isnt there, the noodles are not prepared correctly, and where in the world is the spice Thai is known for? Its not like the food is cheap enough to forgive how bad it is. Its a fairly pricy affair.
Love this place so much, went two nights in a row and did not disappoint. Vegetarian options: No problem for vegetarians!!!
Havent been for many many years but had amazing memories. Went for lunch with my mom today and honestly, I wasnt that impressed. Restaurant looked exactly the same as it did 20 years ago, with the green carpet. Definitely needs an update. But who cares about the decor when the food is good right? We got the pad thai, the black bean beef somethingrather and a green chicken stirfry type of thing (sorry no way I can remember the names). I remember Boa-Thongs pad thai as legendary from years ago, but today it was... it was okay. It was sweet and lacking in depth in my opinion. The sauce was a little thick. Honestly, not that great. Not bad, but not great. The chicken green/yellow sauce dish was actually quite good. Had the flavours that I remembered with Boa Thong. No complaints on that dish totally worth. The black bean beef dish however tasted STRONGLY of teriyaki as though someone went to the store and poured on teriyaki sauce out of the can on it. It was honestly disgusting. The service was... good I guess? They took our order quickly and got our food quickly... but the waitress was sort of just distant and cold. No smile, no emotion, and we sat at the table for 5 minutes after getting the cheque because we didnt know we had to go to the counter to pay. This restaurant had a best restaurant in the okanagan in 1998-2004 awards sitting above the pay counter, and I can see why they didnt get more awards since. Honestly... Not really impressed anymore. Only 1/3 dishes hit home, the server didnt exude friendliness, and the decor was dog. We were there for lunch mid summer but there were only two other tables than us, not surprising.
Awesome! Pad Thai was excellent and the green curry was perfect!
Outstandingly delicious! We each had a very vegetable oriented entree and we shared a PAD Thai. It was all wonderful! We will go back for sure! The wine is also very reasonably priced. Love it!
The food was fresh hot and really good. Highly recommend this place. They also sell jewelry that is hand made in Thailand.
They been around since we landed in 2005. If you want to know why, give them a try!
Friendly and prompt service. Comfy atmosphere and delicious food. The lemongrass chicken was my favorite.
Ive had a LOT of Thai in my life, and no joke, this is the best Ive ever had. Cant recommend enough. YUUUUM!!!
The server was nice, food came out very quick and quite flavorful
Average Thai food.
Having lived all across Canada and having visit Thailand on 3 occasions I do not consider myself to be a chef by any means however this was the worst Thai food that I ve ever experienced in my life and the conditions of this restaurant and the service was atrocious. I don t know how long of a review I m allowed to leave but I will tell you that they even made a mistake on my change because I was not going to leave any gratuity for the services that I was given and they short changed me. The table, cutlery and glassware were all filthy the windows were disgusting with dirt and grease, there was a horrific smell inside of the restaurant, the waitress that served me had zero personality and even when she came past my table with a water pitcher in her hand she didn t once fill it until I asked her to do so. I ordered the cashew chicken which probably had five times the amount of salt in it and yes it was a lunchtime plate but the poor portion would only be good for a 90 year old or a small child. My lunch was $15 and I upgraded for $2.75 to include a fountain drink and a very small over cooked spring roll for a grand total of $17.75 all in. I did not wish to leave a tip and I paid with a $20 bill and she gave me $1.70 back for my change. When I asked her she pretended that she either couldn t hear me or didn t understand me. Time of lunch was 1:22 pm on 10.14.22 just in case anyone wants to even look into this. I took a lot of pictures if anyone would like to see them. Please feel free to check out and you ll see that I m usually not this hard on anybody or any place but this was by far the worst service I ve ever had in my life post pictures on my platinum Tripadvisor. Thank you
This is the best Thai Food Ive ever had in my life!
Great Tom yum guk!!
Once again a fantastic meal from Boa-Thong
Good value, good Thai food
Loved! Mmmm curry
Excellent food
Well we managed to find our new favourite Thai restaurant in the area. Moved here from Ottawa 8 months ago and we had the opportunity to enjoy a very tasty meal here. Service was fast n friendly, food was fresh n tasty and the atmosphere very comfortable. We will be back , thanks
Tried a takeout dish from this place because I wanted to try something new and it was so shockingly, offensively bad I was only able to tolerate a few bites before it went in the trash. It took hours to get the rotten fish smell out of my house and even longer to get the image of the dirty dishwater looking broth out of my mind. The portion was also a total rip off for the price. I could not recommend this nasty, horrible experience to anyone but my worst enemy. Mentioned the experience to some people and they all agreed this place is trash...
Excellent Food!!
Food was good and a good price.
Stellar food and service as always.
Good service but average food
Awesome service and food. Thank you
Amazing food, great price, and fast service. Theres a reason theyve been a part of the community for so long! Try #33 and #41
Good food and affordable. Good portions and friendly staff
Yesterday my girlfriend and I went to Boa Thong restaurant. It is one of if not the only restaurant in all of Vernon located on the 2nd floor of a building. We got to sit by the window and watch what was going on downtown while we sat. The decor is very soothing inside. It is super clean in there. We both ordered pad Thai. Massive portions and a HUGE vegetarian menu. Perhaps the best vegetarian menu in all of Vernon. The food tasted really good. Both Thai restaurants in Vernon are really good! I will definitely come back sooner rather than later. The whole staff is super friendly! It took me 20+ years to try this place and will definitely be back much quicker!
I absolutely love Thai food and can be a bit of a critic when it comes to food. I moved to Vernon 6 weeks ago and have not had Thai food in 4 months. I was craving it and searched to see where in Vernon I could get good Thai food. Boa Thong came up in my search again and again with very good reviews. I must say I was not disappointed. The portion sizes are ample, the flavour of the food was spot on and I was very pleased. This will be my go to for Thai food in Vernon. Delicious
Great food and service
Excellent food & service.
Awesome food, they do take out!
very disppointing for the take out from this place. they talked me into getting their beef rice noodle. Very small portion with five pieces of beef not bigger than my finger nail. I understand it is tuff time from the virus spread. So do we. You charge full price for it
Delicious food. The hospitality is really good too
Very friendly service and excellent Thai cuisine.
love this place! Never been before. My bf took me for first time. The chicken satay sticks are delicious. The cashew chicken dish is soooo yuumy. Amsane with the sweet and sour chicken . Definitely recommend this place
This is our favourite place to eat in or take out. Always a rainbow of flavors. Our favourite dishes are number 9 soup (Delicious combination of Thai flavours of lemon grass and lime leaf), Number 25 with the stirfried garlic sauce, number 18 with the cashew chicken, number 31 with the amazing coconut milk and curried vegetables, number 43 with the rice noodles and Chinese mushrooms. Everything is amazingly delicious. We are so blessed to have a Thai restaurant of this calibre in Vernon . The owners Amy and Wit are always so accommodating, efficient, polite, calm and kind
Always very delicious & quick service. Didn t get any photos of the food as I was too busy stuffing my face. Everything on the menu is amazing, the portions are decent sized, I always have enough to take home for leftovers. My favourite local place to grab Thai food!
The worst Thai food Ive ever had. Just ordered the penang curry and there was nothing penang about it. Penang is a thick curry with lots of flavour. This was watery, fishy and no flavour. Also ordered a pad thai that was very average. It didnt even have peanuts in it which is the normal and on their menu. I dont usually write reviews but thought I should let others know how disappointing this restaurant was to us.
Friendly staff that pointed out the vegan and gf options with easy. TastyAF
Fantastic food with amazing cooks! Amy & Wit not only make us or delicious dinner or lunch but they come and visit our table and we talk about Thailand and Thai cooking when we are there! Wonderful food and wonderful atmosphere, now we are addicted and have to go get our Thai food fix every couple weeks! Thank you guys, your the best!
Great flavors and always friendly service. When we bring guests from out of town they are always impressed with the food.
Extremely disappointed in the pad thai. Tofu wasnt fresh, and the entire dish had an overly strong fishy taste. Basically a big gelatinous mass of overcooked noodles with improper ratios of seasonings.
Delicious Pad Thai. Cozy setting. Friendly staff.
Best Thai in Vernon loved it. Fantastic green Thai curry, get it 5 hot, I dare ya :) the Tom yum is sour, fishy and smacks you right in the kisser. The noodle dishes here are yum yum! Friendly service and constantly served homestyle Thai food. Ive been here 10+ times and Ill be back 10+ more!
Lovely staff. Amazing food. Interesting decor. We were treated the moment we walked in and seated. After we ordered our food took no longer then 10mins and it was so flavorful and fresh. The curry and the coconut rice was amazing and hit the right spots. The portions are just the right size. Will definitely be back.
I tried one of their noodle dishes with the tofu protein option and it was delicious!! The tofu was fried to perfection and the veggies tasted nice and fresh. They easily catered to my vegetarian preference once I asked them if they could which made me feel secure in ordering there.
I was really surprised with the 4.5 star rating this place has. The food wasnt terrible but I definitely wouldnt go again. Both curries had way too much fish sauce and the starters were clearly just frozen and deep fried. I was genuinely surprised there are so many good reviews on this place.
Super nice people.
Great ethnic cuisine!!:)
Had lunch here. Nice and quiet and the food was good. No parking lot so you take your chances with whats available on the street.
Thai menu with excellent flavours. Very pleasant people and very comfortable atmosphere.
Love it great food
Great service
Great service
Excellent food and great service with good size portions
A must visit while in Vernon
Not good!
Very good meal. Nice atmosphere. Great service.
I bought take out. the Pad thai had no peanuts on it and very little flavor. The vegetable dish had no flavor. Worse than mall food court food.
The food and service were good. The decorations and the Restaurant is outdated otherwise. I will give 5 stars
The best.
Unbelievably delicious and warm, cordial staff. Very traditional dishes that are true to the flavours of Bangkok, Phuket or Chang Mai.
Been eating here for many years. Tasty food and lovely service. Would definitely recommend trying!
Very, very friendly service.
Food was good but they were very understaffed. It took at least an hour for our food and they forgot some dishes. Restaurant is very outdated and looks pretty grubby.
Great food, pleasant staff. Enjoyed this evening thoroughly.
Was very disappointed in the food. The green curry with prawns has tiny previously frozen shrimp and not many. The red curry was tasteless and the chicken was very sparse. The waitress really needs to smile And be a little friendlier.
Really great food and unbeatable prices on their lunch menu. Very prompt service.
Food very good. Service left a great deal to be desired.
Absolutely fantastic food, just need a decor upgrade to get 5 stars.
Enjoyed the food and the location. Will likely return one day when in the vacinity of Vernon again.
I love this spot and would recommend it to anyone
Great food all around. We came in a group of 5 with 2 little kids. We got ordered and food was out very fast. We were the only ones in the restaurant at one point, so the kids were able to yell and scream without angry eyes. The retro 80s look was pretty epic. Especially those chairs, you dont see that anymore.
This place may not look like much but the food was AMAZING! Id recommend this place to everyone! The waitress was a little awkward friendly but nothing horrible.
Fast, cheap, and delious
Food is delicious and service was fantastic
Great Tia food just the way I like it. They need to bring back orange pop... my fav.
Always so good!
Not the best Thai food but the people are nice
The service was very slow...waited over an hour...with a reservation. The food was enjoyed by 2....1 not at all...1 so so
Good food. Nice portions. Awful service. Had to go hunting for server to place order. We were the only table to be served. Then had to get up and look for server for the bill. She did ask us about our food after a couple of minutes once received.
Great food. Fantastic price
Best in this town
Had really good soup, green curry and a stir fry with peanut sauce. We always like the food here and come or order often.
consistent and delicious! im addicted to#28.
Really good food
Compares well to any big city Thai restaurant. A consistent favourite of mine for over 20 years.
Decent food with decent prices. Quick service.
Good food, as one would expect from a Thai restaurant and pleasant service. We would very much recommend this place!
Food was amazing, service unfortunately left some to be desired being slow and inattentive to customer requests/needs. Off the wall location easy to miss, but worth checking out for the food.
Friendly staff
I just spent 10 weeks in vernon. I was extatic when I found Boa Thong because I love Thai. We went at least a dozen times and I belive it to be the best food in town. The restraunt is clean and friendly and has an extremely unique staircase!
Bad restaurant the food wasnt as good as i expected. servers were ok but owners suck
Great food and service.
Amazing place to eat! Love the service. Love the food. Amy is amazing!
mmmmmm good
