739 Pandora Ave, Victoria, BC V8W 1N9, Canada
Casual, narrow venue for modern Japanese izakaya-style dishes, bowls & tapas, plus sake.
This is one of the best sushi places in Canada. The sushi was amazing, so fresh and the flavors were surprisingly good. I recommend doing a reservation as it can get crowded.
This Japanese restaurant is a gem! The sushi rolls were incredibly fresh and beautifully presented, each bite flavorful. The attentive staff ensured a delightful dining experience. It's a perfect spot for sushi lovers—I can't wait to return!
The Lucky Strike roll and the Tuna Tataki Salad were showstoppers. The service is great and the food is outstanding
It was our second time in this place. It is a very good restaurant. We like Japanese food. And in this place it's so delicious. For the main, we ordered poke with salmon and ramen with beef. It was so so good. Thank you. We will come back for sure.
Everything we ordered, we finished and wished we had more 🤤 great place for sharing dishes between a few friends and getting a nice cocktail/beer. My favorites: The Spicy Chicken Nanban which I’m sure is influenced by korean fried chicken. It’s a little spicy, a little sweet, and super crispy. The Kabocha Croquettes, a thousand times better than an ordinary croquette. The Jumbo Ebi Mayo, deliciously fried and paired with a mildly spicy mayo sauce 😋 Small complaints would be: CA$5 is too much for such a small side of kimchi. At least give us a bigger dish, it was really good 😔. There are a lot of small bones in the unagi, whereas other restaurants I’ve had this dish clean the bones. A minor inconvenience.
A friend recommended Nubo as the go to place for Japanese food in Victoria We dined on a Friday afternoon. The tables were all full with a busy vibe. Incredible tasting dishes, quantities were generous, service was professional. We are vegan and the menu had a reasonable amount of vegan options The ones we chose were avocado green salad. Veggie tempura. YMCA rolls. Veggie grinch roll. This is the first time I’ve had rolls like these. Super fresh interesting combination of flavor. Definitely a place will be coming back to
We were told the sushi here was better than Vancouver. I have to say, it was pretty fresh and amazing. The rolls were unique and super flavourful - not too heavy on the rice which I appreciate. The tuna tartare with taro chips was a lovely appetizer. Had the tomahawk roll and it was fabulous. Highly suggest getting there before 2pm on weekdays as they close the kitchen shortly after (even though the website says the restaurant closes at 3pm). We barely made it in time had only minutes to make our food decisions. I would love to go back when it’s less of a rushed experience.
Nice taste of Japanese cousin. Got my team entertained and saved from hunger. The service is great, food is good - judge for yourself. Have I seen better sushi places - yes, but this one has good pricing, great element of presentation and my team loved it. So - recommended. The place is busy. You better come earlier around 5:00 pm.
Had lunch there yesterday and we all enjoyed it. Food was excellent! Service too! Did I mention the price - very reasonable for this quality!
Good food, terrible service. Ordered online and requested utensils, but didnt get any chopsticks. I guess were supposed to eat with bare hands
Mediocre food, unfortunately. Gave it a few chances.
Food, service, atmosphere: everything was amazing! No complaints :)
We came to Nubo upon the recommendation of a local the first time we visited Victoria. We came back again the second time we came because the food is just that good!!! Highly highly recommend.
I went back a few years ago because the service and taste were good. . The taste and service are not the same as before, and I was disappointed. I came here on purpose. . The price is expensive too. .
I made a reservation but the server was making me feel uncomfortable like she didn t believe I was who I said I was and that I made a reso for this place? Weird. Our server was nice but pretty slow, she took orders and served drinks for the table next to us even though we sat first. The food was good, we got okonomiyaki, duck, beef teriyaki, and yakitori, nothing remarkable. Portions are pretty small. Best thing was the black pearl roll. The lychee cocktail was heavy on the ice, barely got any sips from it.
Very good dining experience!!
Amazing.
Really great, mostly Japanese food. Theres even okunumiyaki! Definitely recommended for connoisseurs of Japanese cuisine or those who want to become one.
One of the best places Ive ever eaten at in Victoria. Will definitely go there next time Im in town.
Decent modern Japanese foods, really good combination with fresh ingredients, not that many seats for dine in tho, services could be a bit slow sometimes.
I was on the Éne side and the food there is always excellent, never left disappointed. I would recommend making reservations as this is a very popular place.
Food is not good. We went there at 4:55 in pouring rain and the water refused to seat us because they open at 5...also we were super hungry but the food tasted very bland and meh....this was our first stop in Victoria and we were not impressed at all.
I have to admit that my wife and I only came here because of the anime One Piece episode 390 and Luffys obsession with Takoyaki. Now we understand. The Takoyaki was definitely delicious along with all the other food. Once I start eating Takoyaki, I cant stop. Food : 5/5
Favorite Japanese restaurant in a town. Guys add please pictures of the food to the online menu Food : 5/5
What a delicious find! The reviews are absolutely accurate. The sushi was fresh and delicious, especially the Mango Tango Roll and Over the Rainbow Roll. The toro and uni sushi were also a treat. The drinks were both creative and refreshing we enjoyed the Yuzu Spritz and the Lychee Spritz. Highly recommend this spot!
Perhaps we ordered badly but we were disappointed. The ribs were tender and tasty but enormous, the karage was chewy, tempura was fine but batter not particularly light. Best dish was the broccolini which was tasty
Very sweet server- cauliflower tempura was so hard/raw; octopus balls undercooked and underwhelming. After a long walk based on online reviews, we were extremely disappointed. Also, not the best neighborhood.
I walked into this restaurant dressed in what I assumed was unmistakably dinner attire like dress shoes, dress pants, and a dress shirt. Naturally the first thing the hostess asked me was, What s your order number for delivery pick up? Not a greeting, not a Good evening, but an assumption that I must be the delivery guy. How charming. I had to correct her, with a touch of disbelief, by saying, Ughhh, I m here to eat dinner. Funny how every other person was asked if they had a reservation or wanted a table. But hey, I m sure that s just a coincidence, right? Feel free to guess my ethnicity I m sure it had nothing to do with it. Here s a thought: maybe try starting with, How can I help you? instead of jumping to conclusions. Just a suggestion, no big deal. The sushi was fine nothing to write home about. But let s be honest, the interaction soured the entire meal. If I wasn t meeting friends, I would have politely educated the hostess on how to not be presumptuous and rude. But then again, who am I to expect basic courtesy?
$23 for a sukiyaki udon. Decent flavor, but slightly higher price for the portions you get. It s okay. But not somewhere I would go regularly.
Food and service were really good. I do recommend a visit.
Over rated sushi. Nothing special at all. Service okay. Never asked how we were doing. Did not recommend or suggest anything on a large order we placed. Least favorite restaurant in all of our places to eat while visitng Victoria. Disappointing
Food and service was fantastic
One of the best Japanese restaurants you can go to. Good Korean food as well.
we got 2 lunch meals and a rainbow roll for our family of 6 and it was the perfect amt. we werent able to get a table but we sat at the bar.
Amazing food. Every dish was incredible.
The best sushi! Be sure to try the Bento Box Special every day for lunch. And dont miss the Seared Cowboy Roll! Food : 5/5
One of the best sushi places in Victoria, super fresh and attentive staff! A lot of the time the sushi places are all about speed and less about service but majority of the staff members take care in getting your order right or making suggestions. On the more expensive side but what else is new on the island!
This place rocks,I would definitely go back. The food was amazing
The sushi was very, very good. Better than the tapas, I would say. It was on the level of a $200 omakase dinner that I had a few weeks ago. We ordered two sushi rolls and the rest of the food was tapas, which I regretted. The misoyaki black cod was not good, but the other dishes were quite delicious. The yakitori skewers (according to my friend) were also outstanding.
Was gonna take my girlfriend out to sit down and eat sushi and this is one of the few places close by. The host let a couple who were asking how long the wait was cut in front of us tonight even after the couple acknowledged it. To be fair we only went cause its very close to our place, I can name so many other Japanese restaurants with good sushi and better service. Atmosphere and food was both meh. I guess people like paying for how it looks rather than the taste. Good thing Tacofino is nearby and definitely going to Yua or Toro next time :)
good
There is just one word: awesome!!
Walked in without a reservation, hostess said the wait would be about 45-60 minutes. Ended up getting seated within 30 minutes. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was exceptional. We got a mix of things including sushi, takoyaki, tempura, and mocktails. Everything was thoughtfully prepared. Would definitely go back.
Beautiful food very special loved the tuna tatami we had and the karage was very nice too
Great food with a creative menu, backed by friendly staff and an idyllic location. Wished I lived in Victoria, cause this would be a staple Parking: Don t blame them, blame the City of Victoria for the awful access and parking, backed up by predatory ticket issuers
Music is not good
Good food. But giving a fail mark on the atmosphere. Some diners are too damn noisy. Like the asian/ japanese dudes across our table. So loud and annoying.
Excellent and fresh good food
Went the first time for Ramen which was okay. The second time I got the Teishoku with the Yakiniku Don which was very very good !
Arigato Cloud Tapas
Good, cheap (for Victoria) sushi. Not top line sushi, university student splurge type place. Place doesnt live up to hype thats in most professional reviews. Rolls are not that imaginative, rather pretty standard. Its good, just adjust expectations to be pleased, not blown away. Added plus its that for Victoria you wont be broke.
Had an excellent bento box for lunch! Fresh fish and very tasty sides to go with it.
Their teishoku is the best. Fresh wild salmon, very good price for the set. So many options main dish seasonal side dishes are great! Especially the tempura. I wish the mainland had this.
Good food but be aware if you are a vegetarian that they will package meat/fish containing food with vegetarian - apparently you can request it separately but too late for my order. I ordered tofu specifically with no bonito flakes, plus 2 vegetarian rolls for myself and then fish and prawns for my partner, and they packaged the fish roll in the same container with the vegetarian roll, squished together. I thought that the item was missing and called the restaurant and sent a picture and was astonished when they told me it was packed together with the fish roll. And told me next time to tell them I was a vegetarian so they wouldnt package it together. Disappointed in this (and still hungry). Edit: although most nonvegetarians who eat vegetarian dishes will be totally ok with packaging veg and non veg items together, most vegetarians would not be. Additionally fish has a very distinct and strong taste and odour. Suggest as a good practice would be to package veg and non veg items separately by default. Ive never ordered take out or delivery from a restaurant that has packaged them together, so it would have never occurred to me to ask.
Lunch special was fire! For two people: Sashimi + Spicy roll sets. I also got smoking hot roll, incredible! Total $63 and was super satisfying. Would definitely come again!
Food is good and plenty of variety. Place is bustling with good vibes. Will definitely visit again when in Victoria :^)
Very creative and delicious menu
I was here for lunch this past weekend with my husband and inlaws. We were craving sushi and found Nubo online so we decided to try it out. I could not have better things to say! Everything was delicious. I was hoping for a Philadelphia roll so I got the closest thing on the menu to it, the Salmon L Jackson roll and wow! Its safe to say this is the best sushi roll Ive ever had! I would absolutely come back and will recommend this place to everyone if they are in the Victoria area.
I have eaten at Nubo many times and can say the food is consistently good however tonight they tried to steal from me. I attended for my daughter s 10th birthday. The party was four adults and two children 10 and 3. Without telling us the bill came and unbeknownst to us applied a mandatory 20% charge. Without noticing I applied an additional 18-% tip. I tipped 38% without knowledge. There is no notice on their website or menu to my knowledge that parties of 6 have a mandatory 20% charge. When I noticed I had to ask to void my bill. I was not prepared to tip 38% on $200. The restaurant never advised in advance and the server was unapologetic. When I raised the issue, the manager did not come to address. This is tantamount to theft and they probably do it many times a night for diners who do not look carefully at their invoices. The food was good. They have zero desert options even ice cream.
The lunch menu is really a good deal... For $22 you can get 4 pieces each of sashimi & nigiri, fried shrimp tempura and yam, two side dishes and a bowl of miso soup. The ingredients are also very fresh.
Omigod. Yummy! Great service and ambiance. The food is excellently prepared and presented.
Food was good, portion size was fair. Sat at the bar, and it was very nice.
A very intimate setting, and the servers were nice. The food was very exquisite and the tempura was amazing. Would definitely go again :)
Excellent lunch menu.
I would come here on my lunch all the time and their lunch special is the best. Must check out if you love sushi!
Stopped in for an impromptu snack of spicey tuna rolls. They were pretty good but on the smaller side though. Music was quite loud and the sushi chefs looked so serious and no chit chat. Will go back again when in that area of town.
Sushi was good but I had better sushies in Victoria, we went an hour before closing but we felt like their staff was pushing us to finish our food and leave the restaurant. I understand if they want to go home but if Im paying 20% for service for a table of 6, I want to eat my food at peace :) I dont think Im gonna go back.
Amazing food!
The food is very stale, the tall server during weekdays is very disrespectful. Won t come again, ever.
The best sushi in Victoria (in our visiting from Nanaimo, opinion)! The options were very good and the bento boxes/lunch boxes are such great value! The daily special is fun, too, to try new things. I absolutely recommend! The cocktails are great, as well. It can get busy, but it is worth the wait. Parking is hard in this area, so plan ahead!
My favourite sushi place in Victoria. Fresh ingredients everytime.
Had the Shoyu ramen. It was tasty and good for a lunch deal. Wish it had more noodles but would recommend!
Teishoku lunch is a must try
As a family, we enjoyed the food and drinks. It was busy, but they were still fast and efficient.
Superb experience! A must try for everyone in Victoria, BC!
great place! good prices
Amazing baby!
There s hope for Victoria! Eat here - the flavours are heavenly
The food is delicious here! all the sushi is so fresh and the lunch boxes are a great value without lacking any portion sizes. will definitely recommend and go back :)
DELICIOUS food, great service and well priced. Had a GREAT experience!!! Food : 5/5
Always busin at this little gem. Fresh seafood, friendly staff, attentive, and quick. Atmosphere is clean and simple but a bit too sparse. One of my go-to spots for sushi. New takes and combinations on their special rolls.
Fresh sushi
Wonderful. Wow. This place comes highly recommended from family, friends, and strangers. It did not disappoint. The nigiri and sashimi was glorious. Top fan of: -hocate -sake -chutoro -hamachi We had the black Pearl roll which was also good. Omg. It was great! Sashimi cuts were generous for the cuts. Staff were all very friendly. Top experience here. I went for dinner last night and now debating it the next day for lunch. Can t wait to come back.
Would have given them 5 stars but we ordered the Scallop Ceviche but found the serving to be a bit on the smaller side for the price charged. The other things we ordered were very good - the croquettes were so good we ordered a second one.
Really good and food came quickly.
Cute little spot for a quick bite and a cocktail menu. Looks like a good spot for a date night. I ended up ordering to go since there wasnt a table big enough for our party, but it was fresh and tastey. Coming back next time for a date night to try the cocktails!
I got the a Spicy Tuna Roll, an Over the Rainbow Roll and the Spicy Ume Margarita. The sushi was fresh and the cocktail was delicious. I came here on a Thursday so it wasn t very crowded and the ambiance was nice. I highly recommend Nubo. They also had a ton of other food options outside of sushi and they all sounded good.
Food is amazing and staff are super friendly. The place is a bit small but we got a table pretty quickly. Went on a week day and got there before noon. Nubo is one of my go-to places in Victoria. The chicken karage is a must order - every time. The ika and tako sashimi were also some of my faves.
This was a cute little hole in the wall. The atmosphere was quiet and intimate so it was easy to hear one another.
The food here is INSANE. So good. Great atmosphere. After first time coming, I came back 5+ times within a month. Obsessed! Also Ty is such a good server!
The roll is really yummy. Dont miss kyoto nabae coming with seafood soup. Unagi dong serves with hot stone bowl is also great. Totally reccommend this great restaurant. Food : 5/5 |
Came here around 6pm on a Friday in April. Were sat immediately at the bar. The service was great and the food exceptional. The nigiri was incredibly fresh. They did a light sear on top which we loved! Great spot. Would visit again.
The food is absolutely delicious and the prices are great! The staff are also super nice
Best sushi place in town
Great range of delicious Japanese food in a simple setting. Staff were excellent and we were impressed with every dish. Be warned that the menu is huge so maybe research what you want to order if youre in a hurry. We went at 5pm on a Sunday and had no problem getting a large table, but by 6pm there was a line forming (they dont do reservations). Vegetarian options: Excellent range of vegan options, ranging from appies to rolls. Ingredients are clearly shown and the staff are very knowledgeable about dietary requirements.
Best sushi I have had in a long time! Would definitely recommend!
Friendly staff and a great set meal!! Love that you got soup, salad, tempura, and a main (i got the spicy rolls). The presentation was also very cute!
Ordered outside our usual, sushi rolls, and it didnt disappoint one bit. Got some ramen and udon... Delicious! Drinks were also fantastic. Only thing is, it felt crowded. Seating and table are all so close together. But doesnt take away from the delicious dinner we had.
Absolutely incredible food, Im struggling to find adequate words for how good it was. Our server was also endlessly patient with my ignorance of some of the food/drink and was very helpful with suggestions. Certainly not cheap but worth every penny without a doubt. Ill definitely be returning.
Best sushi I have had in my life without competition. I am from quebec, i visit b.c once a year and litteraly spend my whole year in quebec thinking about how good this sushi is. Its basically ruined sushi in quebec because of how delicious it is Dietary restrictions: They accommodated my grandma who is celiac
Amazing food and service. Their lunch special was
Great sushi
Great food and service. There were 9 of us and we all ordered different dishes and shared everything so I had a chance to try a lot of things that were new to me. I enjoyed every bite.
Foods are excellent, quality and taste is beyond words can describe. Friendly staffs, but I deducted a star on service due to safety reason. Staffs placed a senior with mobility issue and pregnant lady so tightly together. The seats (plus a column) are mindlessly set up in such way, those two had such a difficult moments getting in and out.
So good
Loved the ambience inside and the food was yummy. Vegetarian options: My daughter was vegetarian and we had enough vegetarian options Food : 5/5 |
Food and service was good!
Excellent price to quality and quantity ratio.
Their food is very good! They also have some nice lunch special menu (as pictures below: poke, beef rice bowl). I would definitely give another try when I go to Victoria.
Went here after a recommendation from a friend. I was happy with what I ordered but my folks were less so. Octopus was good, and the avengers roll was fantastic. The chicken kara-age was a miss. Overall, just okay.
I rarely provide 5 star reviews due to something always being off. Whether that be the food, service, or the environment. But this was impeccable. Very rarely did you find such fluidity and cooperation between serving staff and the kitchen. The food was very delicious and surprisingly quick. Having fast service is usually a red flag for me, wondering if the food was fresh or made with quality, but without a doubt, it was made well. Our waitress was very polite and nice to talk with. She always responded to our thank you with a youre welcome she had the perfect balance of attention and checkups to not annoy people with constant checks but didnt leave you wondering if you were going to be served. It was the perfect balance. The restaurant is small, which does make the noise travel quite far, on the louder side, but being at the bar was a saving grace as volume seemed to be lower there. All in all it was a very nice experience and the next time we are in Victoria we will definitely be returning for another meal. Dietary restrictions: I informed them of my nut allergy, and they were very respectful and diligent about it.
Incredible Japanese food with some really interesting and delicious sushi rolls. All the food was so so good. & great cocktails too
Probably the best sushi I ve ever had! We got a combination of rolls and tapas and it was all unreal.
Good service, great food. And Asahi on tap. What a great place. Still a great place for tuna. Food
Wow wow wow. Im a big sushi roll fan, and this place knocked it out of the park!!! 10/10 food and service! Food : 5/5
Excellent food and service.
We stopped in for a late snack. Not only was the sushi excellent but my whiskey sour cocktail was divine.
Delicious food and great service. We enjoyed some great sushi rolls as well as their unagi bowl. The service was also quick and friendly, despite it being a busy evening for dinner. The food was high quality and I was glad to see they had a few Japanese beer options as well.
OMG! Exceptional. Went there by chance. But wasn t disappointed. Not your usual Japanese restaurant. The food is refined and excellent. Totally worth it.
delicious food and very good service
Meh, rolls were the basic run of the mill, the service was ok, same with the atmosphere. Its pretty much the same as the other 200 sushi joints we have visited. nothing really stood out as a memorable dish, Nothing was actually very disappointing, but nothing stood out.
Well executed Japanese tapas: All ingredients and cuts were very fresh, with excellent presentation. Our group sampled a mix of classic and modern rolls with atypical flavors, as well as several small plates. The maguro tartare with taro chips was quite lovely, as well as the kara-age, which was incredibly juicy and tender. Drinks were well balanced and the servers all phenomenal.
I gave the atmosphere a 4 because it couldve used a bit more of something special. Buy thats really not that high of a deal. The food was awesome, especially the sushi lit with a butane torch. And the sake I had was really good too. Its just the perfect amount of sweetness and alcohol.
Great atmosphere and service. Dinner with my Sister and Brother in-law. Food came quick looking delicious. Totoro Roll was so refreshing, so good, I recommend it! Thank you! Vegetarian options: A couple of tofu options and salads. I had the Kung Pao Tofu was very good.
This place is bustling! Expect a wait for dinner time. It will take some time to get a seat, order and get the bill as I experienced. So come with a patient attitude. Otherwise the waiters/resses have their hands very full. Otherwise the food is great! My favorite dish was the tomato curry karage. The curry was mildly sweet and they were generous with the karate. I also recommend the Tofino - an assortment of scallop, shrimp and white fish tempura. It was absolutely delicious: crispy on the outside and so flavorful and tender in the inside.
Food was delicious! We really enjoyed our dinner here.
This is a great place for sushi and drinks - any of the affiliated restaurants. It s kind of expensive but the atmosphere is nice and the service is pretty good. Try to make a reservation because there will be an hour wait at peak times. I recommend the monkey brains and the roll they light on fire. If you like sake they have a sake bar on pandora beside the original nobu. I would say this is one of the best date spots in Victoria
This place is bomb! Great sushi and awesome customer service. Love their fresh sushi and chicken karagee.
Fantastic selection of food!
What a fantastic meal. Everything and I mean everything was beyond delicious. The portions are large, so order accordingly. The yam croquettes, puff daddy, lunch special (included an app, tempura shrimp and jam, choice of sushi rolls, hot entrees or sashimi options, miso soup, salad, a marinated pork dish all fantastic. They open at 11:30, by 11:45 it was full with a waitlist on a Saturday. Our server was great and their selection of ciders interesting. A small space with sushi bar and bench seating on opposite walls. We loved Nubo and highly recommend. FYI No reservations.
Good Japanese food to share. Theres some Chinese and Korean food on the menu but we only tried Japanese dishes: veggie tempura, kabocha croquettes, hamachi carpaccio, and three rolls. Everything was delicious and the service was attentive. The sencha and genmaicha are tea bags in a small teapot. Itd be nice to have looseleaf tea but at $3 I cant complain.
Nice food
Its not bad, the service and atmosphere are very nice, and the staff are very friendly, but its not Japanese food. Its also expensive. Rather than Japanese food, it feels like someone from another country has remade the menu out of respect for Japan. Why did you decide to put sesame sauce on top of the rice? ? ? ? Its very salty and I feel like the goodness of Japanese food has disappeared. I think its good that cold food is provided free of charge, just like in Japan. Also, the wasabi wasnt really wasabi. Sweet, with zero freshness or wasabi flavor. Also, many of the dishes had peculiar leaves on them, which made it difficult to eat. As a Japanese person, I dont think I would like to come back. Please study Japanese food. I didnt have any change so I spent two dollars
High quality drinks and nosh. The menu is incredible. Fun rolls.
Absolutely beautiful food and wonderful service
Loved the food and service. Authentic and high quality cuisine.
Delicious lunch! We had the Teishoku lunch and it was beautiful and tasty, as well as a good value. Lunch service was pretty slow, and they were slow to acknowledge we were there. Our two trays were delivered several minutes apart (10 or so).
We came to eat here almost by accident, as we were looking for another place nearby that we didnt feel like visiting. So we tried the Nubo, and it was an excellent option. Everything was very rich.
Really good sushi.
All the food we ordered is definitely delicious. The sets menu Have tasty and nice side dish (tasty tempura, miso soup, salad, etc). Ika calamary is crunchy and Good taste. All the food is delicious . The staff also Very kind and helpful.
We love the food here. Their services is amazing. They are quite attentive and provide the best services where possible. The atmosphere is great. Reservation is recommended. We got lucky they had availability at the bar. We ordered quite a bit of food. The only thing I may not like best is the ramen. The texture is a bit too soft and the bamboo shoots overtakes the miso soup flavour. I loved the tomato curry rice.
The best Sushi restaurant in Victoria! I ordered Sushi & Sashimi, Spicy roll, Yakiniku, Poke Don, and Calamari. The salmon and tuna in the sashimi and spicy rolls tasted really fresh. The Poke Don is delicious, the combination of different items in the bowl is perfect, giving unique flavors and textures. The calamari is really crispy and the spicy mayo compliments the calamari really well. Id definitely come back here again when visiting Victoria!
Great and delicious rolls, everything tasted so fresh and the cocktail was great.
Fantastic restaurant. Always busy. Their rolls are all great. The Puff Daddy is a must if you like crab & cream cheese in a crispy batter. You might need 2 orders! Parking: If there is no street parking, go to the parkade on Johnson Street, next street over.
The only reason service is a 3 is because when we asked to move us to the bar after just having been sat for a minute and not touched anything on the table, while the restaurant was half empty and the bar had only 1 of 10 chairs occupied, we were blatantly told no moving seats as per policy. Zero reason to enforce said policy in the circumstances we were in. We had the saba and sockeye sashimi, the real crab Nigiri, the big roll, the lucky strike roll, the avo/salmon roll and the totoro roll. All delicious!
Nice atmosphere during dinner, we sat at the bar which was fun. Lots of options and everything we had was tasty. The Unagi bowl was yummy, but very hot which made it challenging to eat. We went during the dinner rush without a reservation and got a seat in around 40 minutes. Staff was really friendly. Vegetarian options: There are but they are limited
The rice is in good condition!! The menu is fresh and delicious and the atmosphere is also very nice.
Perfect !
Disappointing drop in quality. The salmon scales were left on in my salmon avocado roll. For a sushi restaurant of this caliber and price, I expect more attention to detail. In response to the restaurants comment: To clarify, belly fat isnt the issue here; as the picture shows, the silvery scales were left on the belly fat. These little pieces were all crammed together into 4 pieces. It seemed like the kitchen was running low and using scraps that werent properly trimmed.
Fantastic spot. Been a few times. Date night we sit at the bar. With the kids we grab a table. Wonderful service, beautiful food. We will be back with and without kids! Kid-friendliness: Kids feel welcome here. Great vibe
*** Each person has a different taste/experience *** After hearing about this place, I gave it a shot. It wasnt as good as I expected. The Takoyaki was soft outside and too mushy inside, it was like the batter had not been fully cooked yet. The Lucky Strike Roll didnt taste as delicious as I thought it would be based on the ingredients listed on the menu. When I ate every single ingredient, the taste was amazing. If I eat the whole roll with all the ingredients together, the taste wont be very well combined. I didnt know why I feel like the rice in the roll tastes and smells more like Jasmine rice than Japanese rice. The sushi rice was slightly mushy. The sashimi was tasty. It was fresh and tasted good. Maybe I should try other items next time.
Best sushi rolls I have ever had. Love how welcoming the place is and great service. My wife and I love going here. Just good vibes here.
Was not too impressed with the food to be honest. Rolls were good, but tapas not so much. Chicken kara-age was really chewy.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nubo tapas and it was an good experience from start to finish.
Very lovely place, our favorite restaurant in Victoria! Good food and good service. They went out of their way to accommodate for any allergies as well. Can get very busy during mealtimes, so arrive early!
Great sushi!
Seating is a little more close together than I like, but the food definitely makes up for it. Amazing.
Delicious food! But the server was rushing to collect the dishes not respecting our time at the table. Two of us were there for the dinner by 8pm and the restaurant was not busy at all and we didn t even spend an hour!
The food was fantastic, the service was very nice and everything around it too! Nothing to complain about, would come again and again!
A delicious and unforgettable experience. I cannot recommend this spot enough. The service, the cocktails, and the rolls were delicious. The scallop ceviche was to die for!
Great service, great atmosphere and even better food. The fish is always fresh and the rice is always perfectly cooked. I could eat at a Nubo every day when Im in Victoria.
Love this place so much. Everything I ve tried has been good. Inventive kitchen and bar staff with great service and an excellent view. Beef tar tar and big selection of nigiri and sashimi, my favorite. Rolls are fresh good whole ingredients. Can t wait to celebrate again with Nubo.
Delicious food and cocktails. They have a great variety of creative rolls that you dont see everywhere else, and they even torch some of them at the table.
Great sushi. Quick service. The big roll is torched at your table and is delicious! Also recommend the sautéed chicken soba.
Amazing! Everything was absolutely delicious. Definitely going back. Samuel L Jackson roll and the Zero roll was our favs along with the calamari! I wish we could reserve a table there but at least we didn t have to wait long. Food : 5/5
Love this place! 2nd time visiting and will definitely keep going back. The atmosphere and service was so welcoming! Honestly probably the best ramen I have ever had, my friend ordered sushi which she loved too :)
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent vibe. I m not a huge sushi fan, but this place just turned me. Incredible! The Salmon L Jackson role was my favorite. And BEST miso soup of my life - no joke.
The sushi was mid. Noting special. They got my order wrong but fixed it so that was nice. The chicken bao bun was good. Drinks were okay but nothing worth spending the dough on.
Amazing sushi, great staff, loved the gluten free options and soy sauce! Thank you. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options!
Equally excellent sushi, sashimi and hot dishes. Japanese Tapas is a cute way to refer to traditional appetizers like takoyaki, tempura, edamame or croquettes. Things like hamachi carpaccio and and maguro tartare are clever names for common preparations of raw fish. The item I must recommend is the Aburi Board. I would call it more of an omakase board (chefs choice, literally meaning I leave it up to you) - but it is delicious. Items on the board were not all seared, so I do not consider it a true aburi sampler - the quality cant be denied though. Lately Im using Uni as a barometer for quality - and Nubo passed with flying colors - the uni was firm and fresh, smelling of the sea. Service was attentive without being cloying, friendly and quick. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, casual.
