Serving local, fresh ingredients in James Bay since 2005, we offer dine-in, and takeout 7 days a week.
We came here for dinner one night while visiting and I loved the menu from top to bottom. It's definitely what I'd want to see for a place right by the water. For starters, the complimentary bread was excellent, thick, and plentiful. We ended up making a meal out of several other starters, though there were plenty of great entrees to choose from. The duck wings were crispy, yet super juicy. The Dungeness crab cakes and chowder had super fresh flavors. Everything was excellent, thoughtful, and showed off some good textures and flavors. The place has a nice vibe, suitable for a casual night or a date night. Service was very good. We had a reservation but probably could have gotten a table for 3 without it on a rainy Friday night. I'd highly recommend this place!
Visiting from Halifax we popped into this sweet spot for brunch. Everything was outstanding. We had 2 Bennie’s. The Dungeness crab with shrimp and the smoked salmon. Eggs were perfectly poached as ordered, hollandaise was fresh and flavourful. The crab and shrimp were delicate and delicious and the smoked salmon was outstanding with the fried capers. The fried potatoes with caramelized onions were an outstanding side. Must try the Caesar cocktail!
I confess, I was in the line up to go to Floyd's diner, but it was still too long even on a Monday morning, so I popped by Heron Rick Bistro instead, and had a great breakfast, patio table, no wait. Loved the morning mimosa, had the word juice in the name. My waitress was cheerful, friendly and attentive, nice spot for a brunch.
During our recent cruise, we stepped off the ship with a craving for poutine, and finding it turned out to be a delightful adventure. Not only was the poutine delicious, but it also gave us away as tourists in the best way. We also enjoyed some butternut squash soup and chowder, both of which were fantastic. Overall, it was a wonderful culinary experience.
This was a good find. We missed the live music on Monday but the staff directed us to other live music venues for after our great dinner. Delicious oysters, though quite smaller than those I am used to. The lobster and shrimp cake was packed full of flavors and complimented by a lovely fresh green salad. They poured great drinks, too. Highly recommend.
A 4 star establishment. Decent happy hour offering, food and service are top quality, but they are a tad expensive for upscale casual dining. Service was a bit slow to start, especially given that they were not all that busy. I was seated inside and it was a bit stuffy without air conditioning. Staff member could not have been friendlier, and offered some good suggestions on the menu. The quality of the food was top notch, arrived hot and was a decent portion. Overall I found their menu intriguing but also seemed somewhat expensive. The establishment was clean, and apart from being warm presented a decent atmosphere. They are family friendly and appear to be able to manage larger groups. They have an extensive bar menu and had several beers on tap. Overall a 3.5-4 star rating from me.
The food was decent overall. While the crab cake had a slightly fishy taste and the portion size was small for the price—mostly shrimp rather than crab—the duck confit was excellent. Unfortunately, the service didn't live up to expectations, as I overheard some staff arguing.
Came here after a knee surgery with a wheelchair and it was very wheelchair accessible!!! The food was fantastic and our server was the sweetest :) Definitely recommend! My only complaints is not enough hollandaise sauce on my chicken and waffles benny- aside from that it perfect! Also some of the best home fries I’ve had!
The food is excellent! The duck wings are the best in the city. The only issue was that our waiter wore an overwhelming amount of cologne that gave me an allergic reaction. He did a great job but he made our dining experience uncomfortable.
Had a lovely American Thanksgiving here!
Always a great meal here, always great atmosphere and great, friendly and competent service. Lunch and dinner, same food, same quality. The fries are hand cut from Kennebec potatoes and the poutine ourdoes any that I ve had in Montreal and the country duck makes it go over the top! A busy local restaurant that s tightly run, consistent, with fair prices and good, straight-ahead Food made from quality ingredients.
A perennial favourite and definitely the best restaurant in James Bay. Great food, service and atmosphere.
Ok food. But for how much it cost, the portion size is a big small. The seafood chowder is really good. I would highly recommend. However, the beef burger was disappointing. Not only is beef patty small, but also is quite tough like a puck. I would not recommend. Other items tasted fine...but was sad portions. Not worth the ~$18-20. Dog friendly patio is a plus.
Lovely service and amazing food - super fresh oysters and creamy, light, tasty chowder!
Young bartender was very pleasant and professional. Lamb burger was OUTSTANDING!!! Thoroughly enjoyed my evening there.
I enjoyed the crab and shrimp benny. The hollandaise sauce was from scratch and fresh. I like how they mix caramelized onions with their breakfast potatoes. The cremma on my friends espresso looked devine. Also the young male server was on top of everything and friendly.
Ive gone a lot with my grandmother because the servers are all super friendly. I usually get eggs benny, but today I got French toast for the first time, and it was made out of the dinner rolls from the night before. I got a mouthful of the rosemary and flakey salt on my second bite and lost my appetite. French toast isnt supposed to be salty. They didnt take it off the bill, though.
The food here was so good. Im halfway through it before I decided to take a picture. The service was so friendly from everyone and very attentive. The interior seems like it needed a revamp, could definitely do with a more cozy vibe.
We together with another seperate couple, who like us has a reservation, stood by agog as we were ignored as a very special group(seemingly) were seated without a reservation, they behaved as though they though they were special and it appears the staff of the heron rock bistro agreed as we stood there, saw tables trewn with dirty dishes, no visual cohesion, we left and went to the bent mast ! The owner has graciously been in contact and accepts what we experienced. I wouldn;t attempt to run a resturant in a million years by the way.
I recently visited a bistro called Heron, and I must say, the experience was quite disappointing. Right from the start, I was taken aback by a photo of a naked woman in the bathroom. Honestly, I had no desire to look at that, and I cant help but wonder why a place named after a bird couldnt have a more fitting decor. But lets move on from the design choices. The food portions were generous, which is a plus, but unfortunately, the flavors were nearly nonexistent. When I finally found some taste in their House Salad, it was so peculiar that I genuinely worried about getting food poisoning. The dressing resembled vinegar more than anything else perhaps they went a bit overboard with the acidity? It was definitely not to my liking.I had some fruit adding to my French toast, orange was quite overriped My partner and I had breakfast and left feeling full, but the lack of flavor in most dishes left a sour note on our experience. I truly believe that this breakfast wasn t worth the money we spent. Overall, I wouldn t recommend this place if you re looking for a satisfying meal.
Quaint restaurant with amazing food! Found it walking distance from the cruise port when we stopped. Highly recommend!
Excellent place, interesting food, excellent staff.
Liked it a lot but it took a bit to get noticed. The lamb burger was excellent.
Food was awesome but management is short sighted which ruined it at the end. Ordered single margaritas, got charged for doubles. Didn t even fully comp us. Claimed there s a lot that goes into the marg, like labour and stuff LOL shaking a drink is hard work. Won t be back unfortunately.
One of the best places for ANY meal. Bring your appetite as they definitely dont believe in small portions!
This is a great place for breakfast or lunch. The staff are very friendly and there is seating inside or on the patio. The menu has interesting item choices and everything I have tasted here is delicious. Breakfast is served all day until 3:00. There is also live music on Monday nights. There is level access for wheelchair users and many low tables. There is a large, single room washroom that is fully accessible.
Delicious!!
We had a lovely dinner with the best service. Great music. The salad was delicious. My only thing was its too expensive. We had one glass of wine 20 dollars, one very very small non alcoholic cocktail 9 dollars plus 2 lentil salads with added halibut (small size of fish) 45 dollars each. 125 dollars plus tip for a total of 150 for a drink and a salad for 2.
Excellent food and service - didnt have a reservation but they sat us without issue. Granted we we early on a Sat night but still. Worth a visit
We were in port from our cruise and we were just wandering around a little after we went to the cannabis shop down the way. Honestly, (and this is not the cannabis talking I m pretty sure haha) my husband and I had one of the best meals of our lives here. No joke! The poutine was fire, the twisted hills pear cider was the best cider I ve ever had and they had a good selection of local craft non-alcoholic beers for my husband. The main courses were insanely delicious, I got the wild mushroom papperdalle with bacon lardons and my husband got the burger. His burger was served on a homemade bun (automatic win) and it was local, grass fed beef. It was so good! Everything about it was awesome and if we lived even remotely closer, we d come back! Maybe some day!
Loud inside. Very good breakfasts, seafood benny sorta lame. Usually get seated at once. Great Caesars from the bar. Opens later so call it brunch. Good hash. Substitutions allowed. Vegetarian options: check with your server Dietary restrictions: GF, etc. ask your server. They are mostly accommodating. Parking: Thrifty foods parking, just go there first. Buy something Kid-friendliness: My kids are 43, I did see a high chair or 2
Pretty much a typical diner. The breakfast was really good. Staff was also very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately it was a little cold so we had to sit inside, where it seems a little old and the furniture not super well maintained, but maybe that adds a little character. Although, the outside area seemed like a good place to have a nice brunch. I had the Huevos Hash and i can only recommend it to everyone!
Have visited this place since it opened and have loved it.Last two visits, service has been unfriendly and the vibe was that we were annoying for asking for even pepper. Needed to request everything.Always loved their roasted potatoes with herbs and now have been given standard deepfried potatoes that were reheated. Food wasn t great and service dreadful. Hoping things change as I want to continue being a regular. Noticed restaurant was quite empty, which is unusual, so maybe others are feeling the same. I empathize with the owner, as it is difficult to get good staff,
Best quiche ever. Thanks
Innovative and fresh breakfast. Fun vibe and old tunes and lots of smiling faces. Go here !!
Great food and friendly staff.
I had the falafel burger, now I want to go back for another one
Dined on an evening with a live vocalist. She was excellent. Enjoyed our meals from that days chefs menu. Staff busy but super friendly when they could pause for a moment. Mostly modest prices, low key resteraunt in mostly residential area, recommended
Best crab cakes Ive ever eaten. Super friendly server!!! Highly recommend.
Great breakfast, and amazing staff! Perfectly off the beaten path enough to not be too crowded. Food
One of my favourite spots in Victoria! The Caesar salad and the calamari are to die for.. can t wait to go back!
A great find. Terrific food, nice staff, parking nearby, good for lunch. They offer all day breakfast.
The mussels and frites were fantastic!
The food was terrific. Staff was pleasant. Our server was happy and bubbly and personable. She was terrific with our autistic son. The food was great some of the best we have had in any restaurant and we have already made reservations to go back and try the breakfast menu. Dietary restrictions: Our son is autistic and some somewhat difficult food aversions. He only eats fries in restaurants and has always refused home fries. But he ate these ones which is a statement all on its own. Kid-friendliness: Our son has social deficits and talks way too much and can say inappropriate things. The staff was terrific with him even with him telling them how to do their jobs with us trying to rein him in. They didn t let it get to them and had smiles on their faces and he was telling them they got a ten out of ten when we left.
ITs ReALLy gUud Marcelo the kid Kid-friendliness: ItS somEthINgh to dRaW
Great eggs Benedict. Try the crab and shrimp Benny or chicken and waffles! Both are excellent! If youre looking for a Caeser they also have several to choose from!
Great neighborhood bistro - excellent & creative food offerings, really nice staff, comfy fun space. Many well-presented, savory dishes, highlights include Warm French lentil salad, Prime rib spaghetti bolognaise, lamb burger, Local mussels/clams in white wine & garlic Extras: Brunch! Live acoustic music on Monday evenings, Great happy hour that starts again after 8pm! Outdoor seating (doggie friendly) I love it to the point I am a regular now!
Food was ok, definitely overrated on Google Maps. There are better brunch options around.
Definitely a nice spot for food. The fries were especially tasty.
Most friendly service ever and good food. I recommend this establishment.
I had a very nice experience at heronrockbisto. The food was incredibly delicious, and its a great option for both friends and families. Staff are so nice .If youre looking for an option with tasty dishes and a welcoming atmosphere, you have to visit!
Love this spot. They have everything- great food, good prices (especially for downtown!), varied drink selection, patio that is dog friendly, and great service.
This place is the Babe Ruth of breakfast joints - all grand slams no bunts. Its always been my favorite place, I moved provinces a year ago and came back to visit today. Its nice to see some things dont change. The only downfall is that others have started to catch on to the fact that this is easily the best breakfast in town so I do recommend you make a reservation. Luckily if you do walk in and the restaurant is full, they have done a lovely job of making a patio area with some glass panels to break the wind a bit. Worth the visit, get yourself a friend chicken and waffle Benny - you wont regret it.
Tasty, unique dishes. Good service. Reasonably priced
Everything is really good.
This place is insane. Ive just had the salad, but it was so good I had it twice. It tastes like they make the salad dressing from scratch and all the food seems really high quality. In a town catered towards tourists with little investment in good, reliable food, it is such a nice change.
Food was fantastic ,service was fast and friendly. Cozy little place Parking: Parking is tricky do to the limitations in some place very busy at supper time may need to hunt for a space Food : 5/5 |
Sisco bucket food at grossly inflated prices. Terrible. ChefboyRdee tomato sauce with a tiny sliver of halibut for 40$. Starter cesar slad that tastes like at a road side diner in butplug small town in saskatchewan, 14$. I was insulted. Stomach felt like filled with citric acid. What a dissappointment. I only felt sorry for our waitress who was a nice girl, that she had to serve such garbadge to customers.
Great little restaurant
Great service, great menu selection.
Super friendly service and a pleasant, family atmosphere. Good menu with many interesting dishes for breakfast/lunch. We felt very comfortable.
Great local restaurant with great prices for happy hour.
Definitely above average. Coffee was really acidic, but Im sure some people love that. I love good coffee and this was a big detractor for me. The meal was great. We were there for brunch with friends and everything we ate was delicious. Not 10/10 delicious, but definitely above average. Id recommend this to friends and family as a place to try, but maybe grab a coffee on the way there. Parking: Parking was a pain thanks to ex-mayor Lisa Helps and her bike lane insanity. Nothing this business can do about it.
Had crab and prawn Benedict and tomato and avocado Benedict. They mixed up the soft/medium preferences that we gave. Their crab and prawn addition in the Benedict weren t pronounced to tell the difference. We liked the tomato and avocado one much better. Okay coffee. A bit too thin for oat milk.
Gr8 food and service! Yummy happy hour with local craft Join in w/other peops on patio
What happened? We ordered boillabaisse on the recommendation of friends who had dined there the week before. I ve never had this dish that the main ingredient was potatoes and next to no broth and light on the seafood.
Had such a nice lunch at the Heron Rock Bistro. We were able to order off their brunch menu and lunch menu, the variety was incredible. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Delicious and great service. Definitely will go again in the near future.
Absolutely great atmosphere, delectable food, and friendly staff. Vegetarian options: They had several vegetarian options Food : 5/5 |
I went here when I was on vacation and the french toast was incredible. They go beyond texas toast. You get three massive slices of their in house bread. Additionally you get a nice serving of fruit on your plate as well. The lemonade is wonderfully sour. I love sour stuff and I was pleasently impressed with how sour they made it. I winced when I sipped it. Go check this place out! Check me out at twitch.tv/peves
Close to where I live....the service was great....and the servers were very wonderful. The food was also very good....
Hopped the ferry to Victoria and had a nice meal at Heron Rock with a friend. I got the smoked salmon benny and a beer and my friend had to try poutine for the first time. Both were delicious and the patio seating was pleasant. The staff were friendly to chat with, too. Would definitely visit again!
The prime rib dinner was small and served cold, yuck. The rest of the meals were not good. Would not recommend.
New favorite breakfast spot in Victoria!
Food is not worth it. Try some other place Potato wedges were as if yesterday s and refried in deep frier. Eggs Benedict- why ask for eggs doneness and then not make it, in two orders? Fried onion was clearly burned. Coffee mediocre. Waiters nails- ohh gosh why cant people with grown out/scratched off nail polish learn how to use nail polish remover?
Best French toast I ve ever had. Some outside seating is available.
Do yourself a small favour. Bypass some of the touristy places (although usually good) near the Empress and the Legislative buildings and try a nice, welcoming meal at the Heron Rick Bistro. A few minutes walk away from the harbour we found very nice food, reasonable prices and great, personable service (Thanks Callum!!). Give it a try, youll be glad you did.
Solid bennies. Service could have been better, though. We were forgotten about multiple times and had to remind them about things we ordered or asked for, even though only half the tables were occupied.
Excellent ambiance with good food and portions. I ate during happy hour and had a beer, burger, and fries for $22 US with tip. The burger was very tasty. The fries were superb, though the portion was way too much for one person. I had an excellent saison draft beer.
The best New England clam chowder!
Visited two weeks ago, was served poutine in which the French fries were cold and the cheese curds as a result did not soften. They made for a lovely decoration around the rim of my plate. Waiter seemed unconcerned. Okay, I thought, they must be having a bad day, so I visited again on Monday 3rd of June. Once again, the food was cold so I sent it back. About ten minutes later, one of the owners delivered my replacement dish and then gave me the benefit of his wit and charm to comment on my desire to eat hot food. Thankfully I will not have to listen to his sarcasm again as I will not be returning.
Nice restaurant for a quick lunch. We were there with eight people (four adults and four children) and everyone was satisfied with their food. There is a separate childrens menu with child-friendly dishes and adapted portions. I had the lamb burger which was really delicious. The chutney had a pleasant spiciness and the meat was well fried. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. Orders were taken quickly and drinks were refilled straight away. Kid-friendliness: There is a picture to color on the back of the childrens card. Pens are available.
We had such a lovely locally-sourced meal and experience here after a busy week traveling with our two kids. The waitress was thoughtful and friendly. The kids had the best spaghetti Bolognese, with chunks of prime rib and fresh Parmesan... I stole a bunch from their plates! I had a seafood Prix fix, with lovely oysters to start... The bread was excellent, home made ice cream... Lovely wine selection and craft beer. Kid-friendliness: They were so accommodating.
Happy hour at this spot is on point. Great selection of beverages and appetizers.
Visiting from Atlanta, GA. Ate at this place 3 times because the food was delicious and the staff amazing! A must visit place when you come to Bictoria.
Tucked away in a residential area, Heron Rock Bistro is a hidden gem. Lovely food, convivial atmospheres and attentive service - this was our favourite evening venue on this trip. Highly recommended.
Dont go to this restaurant. On arriving at the location, I was immediately verbally assaulted by some one outside protesting While I was there with a few friends, in the same area there was some kind of reception that was very very loud, so much so that you had to shout for the person next to you for them to hear. Never again. The servers were all very poorly trained as how to be servers. Very Very Very poor - Never again. Another sign that this is a poorly run establishment is - Just look down through any & all of the reviews, there is not one reply by the management or owners - Maybe they dont care - That is the take away here. Never again - No business from me.
Went there last Friday after our arrival in the country and must say this place didn t disappoint. Great table service with great tasting house wine, Tasty food and a pleasant atmosphere. If you re in the area worth the try. They also have Gluten- free options available. Very friendly waiter aswell. Cheers Gerrit Vegetarian options: Check the Menu Dietary restrictions: Gluten- free available
don t come here
I have eaten at Heron Rock Bistro many times, but my meal last night was by far the best meal Ive had there. The food is consistently delicious. The service is friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is cozy. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and in fact I have.
The best lamb hamburger ever - tasted amazing after walking 30 min. In cold windy weather. Excellent service and atmosphere too!
Great food, and service.
Having been in for lunch previously and enjoying it, we thought we would check out the brunch options. We were not disappointed. This chef knows how to poach an egg properly! The food was delicious, the service exceptional. Its rare to see so many front-end staff actually working with one another. Instead of just serving ones own tables, they work as a collective to serve everyone together. So much more beneficial, especially for the customer. My only complaint, and theres little that can be done about this. The room was loud. It was busy, sure, but very loud.
Updating this post to reflect several good meals in a row. This is comfort food , consistent and friendly. Eggs Benedict with a dozen permutations anchors the menu with a good selection of other food and daily specials. I take out of towners here , Victoria is a special place and this restaurant fits like a glove. It s not cheap but it is worth every penny to start my day here.
I have eaten here many times and have enough context to pass a reliable review on this establishment. The place does the breakfast options quite well. The mains are good too, but the lamb burger is a miss. It is always cooked well done (for some reason doneness cannot be requested). At one time the patty was burnt on one side. I there are vegan and vegetarian choices as well. Ambiance is quite cozy and service is very nice.
Amazing food at a great price-point! We fell in love with the Duck Wings, but after coming here 5 times we still haven t found anything on the menu we haven t thoroughly enjoyed.
We sat on the sundeck with the dog. The view of the trail helped make it nice. Its almost springtime. And it was such a nice atmosphere.
UPDATE: I gave them another try with the eggs Benny and it was very good. I am still upset about the terrible fries that were sent to me last time so my rating stays at 3 Was very disappointed to received fries cooked in old, brown fryer oil. Very unprofessional and tasted awful. I hate throwing away food but these were inedible.
The most consistently excellent restaurant in James Bay and area. Point randomly at anything on the menu, and it will invariably be great. This place is my go-to anytime I want to go out to eat.
Ainsley was a great server. I come from years in hospitality and if I ever have standout service, I leave a review. Food was great, everyone in my group enjoyed it. The beef burger was so good (delicious house made bun!) but our service is was stood out to all of us. Thanks for the great experience Ainsley, we will back eventually and asking for you!
The wait time for food that was easy and fast to prepare was outrageously long in this not even half full bistro. Then the chicken burger chicken was cooked to overcooked crisp. When complaining the server had invalid excuses she used on these senior citizens sitting there. None of us will return to this Heron Rock Bistro after this first visit.
off the beaten path and worth the effort
One of our favourite and go-to spots to come when we are in Victoria. Quaint and quiet with incredible food and delicious cocktails. Service is always excellent!
Chorizo guac benny was terrific. Place was busy (and a bit on the loud side, but thats to be expected during Sunday brunch.
Amazing food!
I love this restaurant but am sick of the menu. I would like to see a chicken dish as a main. A salmon burger would be great too. Possibly a seafood salad. For whatever reason the menu just doesnt appeal to me anymore. Delicious, beautifully prepared food. The brunches are amazing!!
We received our meals and didnt see a waiter/waitress until we were ready to leave. I ordered the chicken burger which was drier than an dessert and will not be returning to this restaurant anytime soon
Chicken and Waffles Benedict! Need I say more? Great service. Highly recommended.
We just moved to James Bay and we have to say we love this place. Amazing eggs, Benedict! Great spot. And new spot we will check out often
One of the great breakfast/brunch spots in Victoria. Went there straight from the airport for bennies.
Waited for more than one hour for the food to come, mediocre food quality, very poor ventilation, air quality was like eating beside the stove.
Their Mushroom Hash is just phenomenal! Amazing service, cozy environment and a very diverse menu. Loved the experience and recommend them 100%.
You gotta give to get 5 stars. Food was so so close! Portion on the small side but the flavour punch did it. Dessert was delish. Music was mid-late 70s am/fm radio (without the commercials)
A wonderful visit with a range of goodies for the palate! I felt like I was on holiday with a selection of traditional and fresh items sigh! Highly recommend.
Amazing corned beef hash. Large portions, loads of Gruyère, braised cabbage and real hollandaise. Bright bistro with friendly staff. Dietary restrictions: Good selection of gluten free food and drink options.
would give a 4.5 if it was an option, like top end generic plates, but nothing crazy unique that I would say is must not miss. the live music is really nice
Good place for a lunch. We were visiting Victoria and Jarvis the waiter was really nice to us and gave us good tips which ended up being good ones!
Food was bad, the fries were okay, service didn t give us menus until we asked 15 mins after we sat down, service gave us attitude when we asked for the menus, one of the worst restaurants I have been to.
First visit to this Bistro. A very busy Saturday morning. Ten of us men reserved for a wedding brunch. The staff handled it with ease. Everyone received their meal perfectly. Taste was awesome. Great job done under pressure! Cheers!
Firstly, this place is located in a nice quiet neighbourhood. Bathrooms are clean and space is very bright. There s also a patio that s great for a summer day. Food - had potential and looked very pleasing at first but was over cooked and lacked taste. Potatoes and fries felt it was warmed up. And finally service - well, our server when they finally came was fine. I have to admit I felt I was inconveniencing them by asking for a menu after sitting down for 10 min was. Probably a great place to go for drinks!
We were encouraged by the 4.5 stars however don t be fooled and look for somewhere better. Food- Overcooked , bland and dry (Fish and Chips, Eggs Brunch, Burger) Service- Server was okay, hostess and seating seemed annoyed we showed up. Advice - i usually ignore bad service if the food is great . In this case Bad food, mediocre/poor service - no reason to even give this a try.
Lol.... so my boyfriend and I used to LOVE this place we used to live so close by and would love to stop in for breakfast....i dont know if the kitchen staff changed or what happened but today when my partner and I stopped in we had the worst experience. Drinks were good. Service was very friendly. But we waited an HOUR for breakfast, got my bfs meal wrong. He only ordered a breakfast poutine and it was tiny, charged him for a large and didnt even include some of the most basic ingredients apart of the dish. I ordered my FAVOURITE benny and waited an hour for watery poached eggs and the weirdest side order that I didnt ask for.... had to reorder my benny because it was soo soggy and then the second time it came THEY GOT IT WRONG AGAIN!! We ended up paying our bill and getting out of there as fast as possible. And no way did we tip . SO DISAPPOINTED NEVER COMING BACK and it used to be my fave......
Delicious food at very reasonable prices! The duck wings were particularly tasty. I also love the late night happy hour. Will definitely go back
My boyfriend and I loved the Heron Rock Bistro! Their happy hour specials were a great value and the atmosphere was perfect for a Sunday evening dinner. We had the complementary bread, a burger, calamari and fish and chips all were delicious and the service was wonderful. Would definitely recommend!
Awesome surprise... soooo good.
Normally the Heron Rock gets 5s across the board from me! Food is some of the best in Victoria and usually the service is top notch. Unfortunately this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Came in for brunch ordered our drinks and meals fairly quickly. I ordered a rueben with soup and a tea and asked if I could have a side of the in-house made pickles, they are super tasty! The food that came was not up to usual standards, Ive eaten here alot lol. My rueben was soggy and the soup special was just odd, curried zucchini but tasted heavily of vinegar for some reason and no curry or coconut. Nothing was aweful enough to send back just not the high level they usually put out. Then when it came time to pay I noticed the additional charge for my extra pickles which was a small steel ramekin that had approx 8 thin slices of pickle was $4!! They sell the whole jar for $9!!. So I asked the waitress and she literally just stared off in the distance until I paid. So odd and uncomfortable and disappointing. Ill still be back but def not for a side of pickles!
AWESOME HAPPY HOUR. People on a Cruise check this place out and then hit the grocery store next door. Heron Rock has always been one of those hidden gems. A true IYKYK. We have been coming here for the past decade and the food is consistently great. Firstly, Heron Rock remains a great spot for brunch. Their offerings are varied and tasty. For dinner there is a wonderful selection of options. I do really like their happy hour. Good deals on drinks, the Olives are a winner as is the Calamari. I do also like that there is live music and the patio is a lovely spot. Heron Rock is a winner.
The food here was fantastic. Our first try of poutine and we quite enjoyed it. Lovely seafood chowder was packed full of clams and fish. Really good green salad. Definitely recommended
Super nice staff brave enough to welcome a group of 13 at 9.40 PM with a smile! And the food was gorgeous
Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. Our food did not arrive and the waiter was very honest and said our order had been lost which was refreshing and we appreciated. However when the food arrived 20 minutes later it was over cooked and the chicken burger didn t contain any chicken. They did give us a free dessert between four of us but all in all a very disappointing experience
Definitely one of the best place in town for brunch!
Upon looking for a breakfast place close to our hotel, We discovered this hidden gem and decided to try it. Inside, you could tell there were many locals, which assured us this place was perfect. This charming local breakfast bistro catered perfectly to our groups breakfast desires, presenting various options. Adding to the experience, the staff showed exceptional politeness and warmth. When our orders arrived, we found ourselves super happy with the outstanding flavors and quality of the cuisine. Departing from the restaurant, contentment filled us, setting an ideal tone for the day ahead. This is the perfect way to start a morning in Victoria. It was so good that we found ourselves drawn back again the following day, unable to resist another delightful breakfast.
I had previously only eaten breakfast here, which is always amazing. I have a thing where I cant pass up a Reuban when I see it on the menu. The Reuban I received was one of the top two best Reubans Ive ever eaten, and Ive eaten a lot! Great selection of local beers to wash it down as well. Well done Heron Rock!
Great breakfast at a rather quiet place. No waiting. Good variety of options. Sit inside or out. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and vegan options Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options
Really delicious food and especially delicious decaf Americano!!
Best chicken and waffles in Victoria, hands down
This was probably the best breakfast I had all year.
A great place to go for comfort food. Once you try the potatoes with any egg Benny dish, youll be hooked and you will come back for more. They are consistently awesome. The cocktails, wine, and beer were tasty, too. Good for couples, small groups or families.
If I lived in Victoria, this would be a regular haunt. Wonderful food and service.
Burger was so yummy. Tastes of fennel seeds and caramelized onion with a delicious aioli with a homemade bun nice take on a burger. Interior was pretty run down looking, and some strange decor choices, but outdoor patio was nice. Servers were attentive and helpful.
Just had a few hours in Victoria while on an Alaskan cruise. Found this place and had some amazing poutine and a great selection of beer.
In two weeks in Canada the most disappointing dinner we had. Mussel s were ok-ish though we didn t like the amount of garlic, fries were overcooked and too salty we couldn t finish them. Place looks a bit rundown, service was ok. Would not come again as it s not great value either.
Beautiful spot in a nice neighborhood. Food was everything and more. Sat on the patio with our pup. Our server, Rachel, was the best. So helpful with the menu and suggestions and very accommodating with any requests. You cant go wrong with the menu and all of the options for breakfast lunch or dinner. Thank you for a wonderful time on my visit to victoria.
Alright
Food was good and the atmosphere is great.
The smoked salmon Benny was sublime...just the right amount of lemon. And a very interesting dressing on the side salad. All very good and fresh.
Great service and food. Got a table quickly and was able to sit outside. Staff very attentive.
First, the positive. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good drinks. Tables available at brunch on Sunday. Unfortunately, the food left a lot to desire. My French toast was, strangely, tough. Im not sure how else to describe it, but I think they should use different bread. Not the eggy, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth experience that Im looking for. There also appeared to be some overcooked items elsewhere at my table. It also took 50 minutes from ordering to eating. Id give the place another go but try something different.
Delicious Valentines Day dinner! But since then, been for prime rib a couple times and the service has been terrible and slow. Waited like 30 minutes for our bill and just got attitude for being upset for waiting for so long when you could see the staff just chatting multiple times which means they had time. Hoping the next experience is better otherwise I think itll be the last.
Awesome service! delicious food! Went for Thanksgiving dinner post race day :) Sticky toffee pudding was delicious as well as the main Turkey dinner! yum!! Lovely ambiance and playlist :) We will be back for prime rib dinner next visit.
Our lovely Ainsley served us and was delightful
We enjoyed the Thanksgiving meal it was like home away from home.
They made it very clear they rather have white customers than anyone else.
Genuinely great food, paralleled by the fantastic and friendly staff. Their Benny selection is straight-up legendary.
Ive become an infrequent visitor as the Heron Rock menu and focus has changed over the years and cholesterol has become a problem. One thing that has remained constant throughout the years is that they have possibly the best breakfast option in town. Their Chorizo Sausage Hash is brilliant with just the right touch of spice and savory. They also have nine rotator taps from local breweries so there is usually at least one seasonal, or more rare, local craft offering available to choose from. I definitely prefer the patio over inside dining, but that is as seasonal as the beer. Parking: Parking is challenging in the area as a whole. There is limited street parking and even loss with road direction changes and bike lane additions over the past few years.
Fantastic place. The food is absolutely fabulous. Great service
Chased out of here before it was even 10 pm on Friday night with a manager there& got charged $14 for a 6oz glass of wine from the happy hour menu.
Excellent service and wonderful atmosphere. Brunch was exquisite!
Friendly. Great food. Great atmosphere. Will return!

I will be dreaming about that chicken and waffles benny for the rest of my life.
Best chowder Ive ever had. Wish I had ordered the bowl. Bread pudding could have used more custard but thats probably personal preference. Unseasonably busy and short staffed when I was there in late November but still amazing service and delicious food. Attentive and very sweet waiter. Absolutely recommend.
The main course was extremely late in coming. I think someone, either the server or the kitchen, forgot about it. As well we were not provided any water while waiting for the main. Not the best experience over all.
Delicious food. Cant go wrong with their eggs Bennie and so many choices of it
We had the most amazing service from each server we encountered! Food was good and the dog-friendly patio means we ll definitely be back!
Fabulous Sunday roast.
