Rooms in an 1884 house, casual suites & a bungalow joined to a craft brewery with free breakfast.
A Victoria staple. Above average food, beautiful venue and great beer. A wonderful stop for a weekday lunch with the family or weekend beers with friends. Great value for money and always consistent. Been going here regularly for my two years in Vic and will return.
Not recommended for dinner on main floor. Unwelcoming atmosphere with chipped paint on walls. No salt and pepper on any of the tables. Inept and false-cheerful staff (three different and continuously alternating servers during the course of a meal in restaurant three-quarters empty.) Grilled cheese sandwich adequate but side of fries undersized and overpriced ($10!) Go somewhere else.
My wife and I stayed here for two nights in early September. We found the room small , but clean. We had breakfast and supper at the restaurant and were more than happy with the quality of the food and the service. The walking trails were handy and the views were great. We recommend this facility
Very disappointing service. What a gem, but the staff is checked out. I finished my beer and no one asked me for 20 minutes if I wanted another (I was sitting at the bar). There was lots of staff and they were just chatting amongst themselves. The bar was pretty empty so not sure why the service was not there. I ordered the smoked fish plate and it took 35 minutes. And it came without the smoked oysters which is why I ordered it. Apparently they were out but no one told me when I ordered. I would have asked, but no one checked to see how my food was until it was done. Just general apathy to the customers. Given this has been my go to in Victoria for 25 years whenever I visit, I was quite disappointed this time.
Right on the waterfront with a great view over the harbor, this pub feels both traditional and contemporary in both food and style. The beer selection is vast and local and the food is fantastic. Recommend the tuna and 3 pig pizza. Special shoutout to the staff who seem to have a great camaraderie and are friendly, efficient and helpful.
My bride and I decided to have a date afternoon and included this famous brewpub on our agenda. There is lots of patio space. Parking in the lot or on street. We ambled up from a water taxi and got seated with a view of the inner harbour where fancy yachts mingle with float planes. The vintage beer are a must and their tapa plates are scrumptious. I'm happy I'm a local when I come here for refreshment.
Loved that we could have our pup on the patio to keep us company through our lunch. Views were really grand of the inner harbor of Victoria. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion, and were tasty and well-proportioned. Our server was polite and prompt and didn't ignore us at any point. Not only was there ample parking, but they have a class 2 charger on site for owners of electric cars to charge while eating at the restaurant. So, why not give 5 stars? I had the pulled pork sandwich and for some reason it just didn't sit well with me... Too much fat, or something in the sauce, or the caraway seeds in the coleslaw??? I'll have to go back and try something different to edge towards a better experience for me.
This place has a chronic customer service problem. Don’t get me wrong, the food and building itself are top notch, but for the past two years, the service has been consistently rude and inattentive. We’ve been coming here for over ten years, and have noticed the greeting staff being reluctant to seat tables with children, visibly rolling eyes, servers responding tersely to simple questions about allergies (not asking for special accommodations for allergies, just inquiring about ingredients), having to track down staff to settle up after waiting long periods, and having to order at the bar because no one came to take our order. One server reluctantly sprayed down the table we were to be seated at, and in the process sprayed our toddler in the face with the cleaning solution. It’s the glares from staff throughout a visit, as well as the passive aggressive comments towards one of our kids that is probably the most disappointing. This is a collection of experience from well over half a dozen visits. Oh, and we appreciated the bartender ignoring us so he could fumble his way through flirting with the young staff. One visit, our friend with a lot of restaurant industry experience voiced his bewilderment with the service as well. And we are hardly loud, demanding, poor tipping patrons. We’ve had a couple really solid, well trained servers over the years. I wish it were possible to not lump them in here, and it pains me to post this when the food has been enjoyable - clearly the kitchen staff is still doing their part. But recently, the service has become offensively poor.
Spinnakers is an absolute gem that truly lives up to its reputation! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the warm, inviting atmosphere. The rustic charm of the pub, combined with its stunning waterfront location, creates an experience that feels both cozy and refreshing. The highlight of my visit was, without a doubt, the roast mushroom pizza on flatbread. It was perfection! The roasted mushrooms were rich and flavorful, balanced beautifully with a crispy flatbread base that had just the right amount of chew. Every bite was a delight, and it s easily one of the best meals I ve had in a long time. The service was impeccable. The staff were attentive, professional, and genuinely friendly, ensuring everything was just right throughout the meal. They made the entire experience seamless and enjoyable perfect for a work lunch. My only regret was the rainy weather, which meant I didn t get to enjoy the patio. Sitting indoors and watching the rain on the water was still lovely, but I couldn t help but imagine how spectacular it would be to soak up the views and fresh air on a sunny day. If you re looking for a spot that delivers incredible food, outstanding service, and an unbeatable waterfront ambiance, Spinnakers is a must-visit. I can t wait to return hopefully on a day with patio-perfect weather!
Food is always top notch here.
A Memorable Lunch at Spinnakers Brewhouse Late this summer, I took my mum out for lunch at Spinnakers Brewhouse. It was a gorgeous day, and the patio was bathed in sunshine. Our server, Mackenzie, was absolutely delightful. My mum has significant dietary challenges that require careful planning, and Mackenzie went out of her way to accommodate her needs with a warm and positive attitude. As for me, I decided to try the clam pasta, one of the few dishes I hadn t sampled over the years. When our food arrived, Mackenzie checked in on us to ensure everything was to our liking. I found the pasta a bit too salty for my taste, and when I mentioned it, Mackenzie didn t hesitate to offer a solution. She had the kitchen prepare a fresh plate for me, which arrived quickly. Unfortunately, the second serving was still too salty. Mackenzie handled the situation with professionalism and grace. She later explained that the recipe had recently been adjusted and noted that the naturally salty ingredients capers, anchovies, and clams had compounded the issue. Her transparency and willingness to address my concerns left a positive impression. This experience reinforced an important reminder: it s okay to speak up if something isn t quite right. Giving the staff an opportunity to respond and find a solution is key. I ve been a loyal patron of Spinnakers since the 1990s and have always appreciated their excellent food and service. While this dish didn t quite hit the mark for me, I value the way the team handled the feedback and will certainly continue to enjoy everything else this iconic brewhouse has to offer.
I was shocked when I saw staff and management drinking excessively while on shift. I brought my children as well but will never again nor will I be going ever again. Totally unprofessional!
Terrific view, great foods.
Great roadhouse menu, nice views of the harbour.
Beautiful location and great beers! Friendly service, tasty food.
Staff was friendly, kept on top of the table needs. Best views in victoria hands down Service : 5/5
Went for brunch. Had the salmon, spicy chicken and chuck burgers. Was very good food, not bad price, service was average but very friendly. Great location overlooking the water.
Spinikers is a hidden gem just a little off the main harbour boasting amazing food as well as views. Food and drinks: The food and drinks were fantastic the view cannot be beat was. Gorgeous stunning sunny day!
Honestly when I look for charcuterie when Im out and about this is what I hope for. A thoughtful, local display of tasty snacks to accompany drinks and conversation. The knot whisky is also quite delicious even while neat. Great time, great view.
We stayed a few days in great Victoria area and dined at few different restaurants. this one was the best! We ordered a few different meals and each of them was perfect! Service was good as well!
I went with my mother in law. She didn t complain once. Great sign!
Good view to the bay. Good-looking decor inside.
Went here for breakfast on our last morning in Victoria and it was a great send off! Boozey warm coffee drinks, overlooking the water and delicious food! Breakfast and lunch were available. We had to drive across the bridge to get there but it was a great find . Food and drinks: I got the Kahlua espresso
We ate a late breakfast which was delicious. HOWEVER, unfortunately the noise level was too high. NOTABLY, the noise was from the staff and kitchen but not from the patrons. Please keep the noise from dishes, pots and pans down. Thank you.
Even one star for their service is a lot!!Their customer service is zero. Waiters and waitresses are not polite at all. They dont know how to talk to the customers and they dont care about you at all. It seems they are so tired and bored. We went their for a brunch and the hash browns were completely burnt. Never going back there again.
Had a nice breakfast
A fantastic place to come and grab a bite. Good food, good drinks, good vibes & GREAT staff!
0 stars
Wow what a disappointment. Hadnt been in a few years and thought it would be a great place for out of town guests. Service was spotty with slow to ask for, deliver drinks and forgot 2 of them. Food was extremely under whelming for the price. Why do you have to get an appetizer of fries if you want a side with a sandwich? Will not be returning or recommending.
This is the third time I visit spinnakers, as always I am delighted with the food, its presentation and the flavour of their dishes. This time I visited the place as part of the Hospitally and Management program of Camosun College students, learn more about its foundation and its opening 40 years ago. It was very exciting to hear the owner and founder speak with so much love, for the history of the place and the emotional and labour connection it has with the city of Victoria and the people of the island with whom he works together. So if you travel to Canada they put on your list of places to visit the city of Victoria, go to spinnaker, you will be surprised with the beautiful views of the bay, the pleasant attention of the staff, enjoy their food and also taste their beers made by themselves and that are recognised throughout Canada.
Great seafood chowder and good beverages!!!
I m rating the Gastro BrewPub. The food is great, we ve had a great chowder and pizza! Service can improve and wish the staff is more attentive at the restaurant. Service
Attended a very special wedding event and the lucky couple chose Spinnakers for dinner. Perfect location on the water, the building beautiful and the decor certainly matched the location they ticked all the boxes unfortunately the let down comes in the service. While Spinnakers is in the service industry they DONT appear to understand the services they are providing! From the rude greeter at the front door to several wait staff, we found this a large turnoff. I m sharing an OLD saying with the management of Spinnakers Gaston Brewpub A fish stinks from the head down while understanding the quote above means Spinnakers should look at the executive team to the entire staff to revamp this service provider. Best of luck on your future. Jeff Ball London ON
I come here often but it s not what it used to be - The services have went down so much. One of the servers had a terrible attitude, insisted on two pieces of photo ID, would not take my drivers license + non photo service card. She was confrontational the whole time and asked me do you have serve it right? Well, I actually do, and she needs to retake it. But bartender and manager came over later to clear things up and apologized. It s just that particular server who had a bad attitude. Hence 3 stars.
Drinks are nice and theres a great view. Food there is okay too. However, dont go there if youre in a rush; Spinnakers is known for having some of the worst service in town. My last visit there was no exception.
Very poor restaurant service, from having to wait 15mn to get someone to take us to one of the many free tables, then another 30 to get our two orders taken, and served to us 25 mn later, wrong orders!, not a hint of an apology, then waited 20 minutes for the bill. It does not appear to be well managed, nor to have a custmer service philosophy. Certainly, no plan to return...
Much over rated place. The food was not that upto the hype and was actually pale. Not reccomended Rooms
A truly local gastro brew pub with good food, and *drinks. *Despite being a brew pub, I ve never tried any of their alcohol. There are two dishes I routinely order here: West Coast Fish Plate - exceptional seafood, tender oysters, light tuna, mildly smoked chum. Served baguette slices, and crisp crostini. There is some room for improvement here. The bread has a few large air bubbles remaining, which leads to significant holes. Occasionally, the crostini are over done, and they fall apart completely with one bite. The wasabi aioli is very mild. No, seriously very mild. If they called it garlic aioli, no one would question it. This is the worst part of the dish. The meat is rich and moist. There is no need for an aioli here. Lastly, there is a celeriac remoulade. Also known as celery root coleslaw. And it s delicious. I wish there was more of it. West Coast Seafood Chowder - perfection in a bowl. Made to order. I ve ordered this on the patio, on the warmest of spring days, and suffered through being a little uncomfortable for it. Served with a slice of their baguette. Loaded with seafood. There are some green bits on top called a Bamfield Macro Kelp Crumble. It could be green onion. It doesn t hold up to the cream base to offer much flavour. Spinnakers will remind you, as you can see from the dish names above, that you re on the west coast and this food is local. It s just a little silly. However, given their location as well as being a hotel - it s understandable that they want to drive these selling points home. Service & Staff - Spinnakers employs a number of high school and college students for their wait staff. I ve never had bad service here, but it s clear that some staff are inexperienced. As such, there is high turnover as students either leave for post-secondary outside of Victoria or graduate from Uvic/Camosun. Menu - Years ago, they had a Cold Brew service which came deconstructed which sounds pretentious but allowed one to tailor their coffee to their own liking. It came with cold brew concentrate, water, a glass of ice, a creamer of your choice, and simple syrup. Hands down the best cold brew I ve had in the last decade. Sadly, it s no longer on the menu. Earlier this year, there was an Iced Tea Peach Fizz which was spectacular. Despite the description noting that it was sparkling O d Vie, brewed tea, and peach syrup - wait staff were unsure if they could swap in another syrup other than peach. All iced tea is now missing from their menu. As noted above, two delicious beverages have been removed from the menu. As it s a gastro brew pub, the menu changes often. And most times, it s a shame - since the kitchen staff do strike gold with some items, which then leave. Further, to the menu changes, the website menu will always be out of date. Over all the years I ve dined here, the menu I received in person has never matched. Don t come with your heart set on one thing. Give yourself options. Improvements - Spinnakers appears to be expanding their mocktail lineup - which is appreciated. However, some items like iced tea seemed to have been removed in favour of more expensive options. Yet there is always room for their soda brand and mineral waters. These are canned beverages you can purchase at the Provisions store on your way out as well. The sodas are your classic flavours, and then the mineral waters get all the fun with none of the intensity or sweetness. I would like to see the non-alcoholic drink menu expand overall.
Ok! This is much more a review of the food/restaurant, than the guesthouses. We ate at the Brewhouse two nights. Do not get the pizza. It might sound good. It is not. The crust is tough, and a strange thickness. I got the BC Cheese, and it was like they were afraid to actually put cheese on it. Instead of having a few mild, melty cheeses, punctuated with a sharper cheese for an accent; it was all sharper cheese used sparingly, so the sauce was visible across the entire pizza. The burger had a good flavor, but it was extremely dry and overcooked (almost difficult to do for a place that advertises house-ground chuck). We tried the fries, cheese, and gravy, as well as the popcorn chicken our second night. And again- it was as though they are afraid of cheese. It was finely grated, and just barely enough to see that it did exist under the gravy. The gravy was a curry based, so the first bite was tasty, but got overwhelming as you ate (and again, no cheese to balance out flavors or texture). The popcorn chicken was wet. Literal chunks of breaded chicken, floating in a watery sweet and sour sauce, covered in raw coarsely chopped red onion. Since we really wanted to give them a fair shot, we ate here both evenings. I wish we hadnt. Im sure there are way better places on the water with just as nice views, but better food. As for the guest houses! It was cute. Felt a bit like a hostel (no communal bathrooms or anything). I wouldnt stay there again, though.
Service is horrible, the waiter didn t even say hi. The place is infested with flies and the food is horrible with a limited menu. My mother ordered a salad and when she got it, the lettuce was moldy, they burnt my pizza so bad I couldn t eat it
Good atmosphere friendly staff food is good.
Great tasting beers, fantastic view, amazing service (thanks Caleb)!
Great pub, food and service was excellent. Upper floor has a better view of the bay. Outside deck being our favorite. Prices were very fare.
Went there a few weeks ago for a birthday dinner with my brother. Guy at the downstairs bar said to just go ahead upstairs, past the sign saying please wait. Sat at a nice table overlooking the harbour, then waited until some other fella comes up and says the server in this section is really busy and asks us to move - like yeah its outside on a nice evening, people are gonna sit here, maybe adjust the sections accordingly? I suggest we could just order at the bar since its just drinks, they demur and eventually the server comes and complains about us self-seating like it wasnt her own colleagues that told us to sit ourselves...anyways beers come and are adequate, I ask for a water and she... actively looks on other departed tables for a potentially unused water to give me. I only wish I had the courage to leave a zero tip when the machine offers me the higher options. I regret going to Spinnakers despite the location and history.
Insane to ask are you sure? after I put no tip after a tiny sale [below $5]. Thats terrible. Im appalled with the audacity tbh Rooms : 1/5
More restaurant than pub now. The happy hour is 3-5 yet they dont open their upstairs pub part until 3:30 a lot of the time or they dont allow you up there as they dont have enough staff (though the bartender could easily take food/drink orders like they used to). Service is not fastest or attentive either. I really just go there for the pub and not the restaurant. It is the best view in Victoria and the food is really good with some nice new beers but as a patron i feel they organize it now around what works best for the staff and not the customer. But thats just my opinion after going there the last 25 years. Lots more choice in this town now.
On a warm evening about 7pm, three of us, I took my adult daughter and her friend to Spinnakers restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. When a hostess eventually appeared, my daughter asked whether it would be possible to have a table on an outdoor patio. The negative reply was given with rude, curt indifference. We were seated, then as she was walking away the hostess called back I saw you roll your eyes !. If this was an indication of Spinnakers hospitality, we decided to get up and walk out.
Absolutely disgusted by the service I had just received here tonight. Young female waitress with heavy pink eye shadow constantly served the two tables around mine while purposely avoiding eye contact with my table. Not once was myself or my wife offered refills on our drinks, or checked in on in general. We sat with our empty drinks and plates from between a half hour to an hour. My wallet was on the table with my visa sticking out on purpose. When she came back to check in again with one of the surrounding tables, I got up and started walking to the register visibly frustrated. I flashed my card and asked to pay for my bill. As she handed me my bill, she tried to make small talk and I said nothing. Not until after she watched me press the no tip option did she offer an apology. Again I did not even respond. I also want to note that I m a visible minority, and was the only non Caucasian person eating in this area at the time. I really hope that racism wasn t a factor, but judging from my experience, it s hard to feel otherwise.
Best salmon burger I have had in Victoria. Service was exceptional too. Bonus that a friend surprised me by footing the bill too
For the pub: every experience Ive had here over the years has been just ok at best, in service, food, and seating, and Ive only returned because of proximity to other things or someone elses choice (as was this time). If you find yourself there, get the dressing on the side and keep to trad pub fare.
Food was disappointing, Dry burger patti, untoastet cold stale bun. Boring and bland mac and cheese. Rooms
We took our dog to the restaurant and they were so kind to him! We got an ice cold bowl of water which he gratefully accepted. We got a flaxseed carrot dog bone and he loved it!! The patio is where dogs are permitted and it has a large selection of tables that have umbrellas. Walkability: You can walk here within ten minutes from the delta Victoria hotel. It is about a thirty to forty five minute walk from the empress.
Extortionate pricing at the pub. $42 for 2 piece halibut and chips. After an informal survey of various establishments in Victoria and Vancouver, it appears to be the most expensive serving on the coast and yet it was pedestrian at best once I was able to find the fish through the heavy blanket of batter. Spinnakers was a favourite on trips to Victoria, no more.
View from the patio was incredible, beer was good (although they brought us one we didnt order), the service was bad, and the nachos were terrible. We waited 45 minutes for nachos, and when they came, they were burned, almost without cheese, and it appeared that someone had upended a bottle of barbecue sauce over them. Wont go back.
Came for the excellent food and it did not disappoint, I had the pulled pork sandwich and 2 other had the fish and chips. Great service and comfortable atmosphere. We even stopped on the way out for a homemade icecream sandwich and chocolates, yum. Will be back again.
What a great place for drinks and Appies! Our servers name was Grace and she was FANTASTIC!! Great quick and delightful service! Will be back again soon!
Amazing stop after our bike tour. You can feel the love in the food. We had the pulled pork sandwich on house made sourdough and it did NOT disappoint! Wifey had the smoked tuna poke bowl, which was gluten free and absolutely delicious. Carrot cake hit the mark with a great blend of flavors, none of which over powered each other
You can tell they put love and craft into their food. Everything we ordered was housemade and amazing! Nice bay views and relaxed vibe. Sourdough pulled pork, smoked tuna poke bowl and carrot cake - definite highlights. Highly recommend as a spot to visit in Victoria!
Whatever you order, make sure you get their special cut fries. Theyre so good...oh yeah, and the Salmon burger is amazing. Id also recommend the smoked tuna sandwich, super tasty.
Rooms need some updates. Booked for a patio and didnt get one. No fridge and had trouble getting in the Olympic sized bath for the shower. Location made up for this. Service in bar is good but dont be in a hurry. Waited 30 minutes for a drink. Walkability: Walk to everything, great location
My 3rd visit to the restaurant in recent months! The servers on all 3 visit were excellent! Delicious food, every time, served promptly. And I love the Cranbercocktail coctail. The view on this beautiful clear Sunday were lovely. Skylar was our delightful server tonight
Spoke to Dana on the phone today, I wished to know if a room was available, which it was. Dana suggested I book the room online, which I attempted to do. I phoned back, saying the site would not allow me to specify room in question . In response, she directed me back to the website, which still stymied my best efforts. My wife is taking over. I have stayed many, many times, and sing spinnakers praises often. However, I can not say I feel like a valued customer. If I am attempting to buy a service, why is there such resistance to accomplishing said task? Dana?
Good food but some servers were inattentive. Most of them saw us but they were busy chatting to each another. We just asked for the bill so we can have our water refilled.
Terrible experience. I ordered my meal, Im allergic to corn, the dressing has corn in it, and the chef absolutely cannot give me even olive oil and lemon juice as a dressing. Even the manager absolutely refused to help. I have been here 4 years in a row(Im from away). The first two years were great. Last year 2023, was problematic. This year 2024, we walked out after our drinks.
Tried to have a meal at the pub last night. My wife has a number of food allergies. They were either unable or unwilling to make a salad dressing that could accommodate those allergies. Tried to tell us that they didnt have any ingredients and in any case they were too busy. They couldnt even make up a dressing of olive oil, plain vinegar, spices and salt & pepper. They clearly dont care that much about their customers. We wont be going back and will definitely share our experience with others.
Delicious beer brewed on site, billiards, good music
Incredible food! Amazing atmosphere! Great views!
Had a good dinner with my partner on my return home trip from school. Busy when we got there as there was a wedding reception but still enough tables for others. Good service. Food smells great. Pool tables. Bit on the pricy side but was a good experience.
Ate at the brewpub with my wife and two kids. We were seated upstairs next to one of the doors that leads to the outdoor patio. It had just started cooling down outside and there was a steady breeze, enough to blow my daughter s colouring page to a different table. We asked a server if we could move or close the door. She told us that the door would be mostly closed but not latched so they could easily move from the inside to the outside with the food and drinks. Fair enough. However, the door would be pushed open by the breeze and then the servers would leave the door open again after they tended to the outdoor tables. When our food came, my wife s order had been mixed up. They were apologetic and said her real order would be ready in two mins. Closer to fifteen, but it was fresh and delicious. Food overall was tasty and the drinks were good.
If I could put no star, I would. Absolute worst customer service I ve ever experienced. We were in a group of 5, we had a wait of 15 minutes we were told then it turned to be 40 minutes later we got our table. The Host said he would comp us 1st round on the house. We get the bill and the drink s weren t comped, I asked the server and she started to argue with us. Accused us for yelling and, told us that the host has no authority. It was very disrespectful won t be coming back any time as we were speaking in a calm manner. The manager was also just as disrespectful. She had no clue on how to deal with conflict, or had a resolution. A managers duty is to deal with conflict, and come up with a resolution, however she did not any of that. Very incompetent. She needs to get some training, because she is a great example of a bad manager. Would not recommend this place to anyone the food was also really bad had no flavour. It is sad to see such a nice, beautiful restaurant. We ve only ever seen this brewery go down hill due to its customer service.
Delicious beer battered salmon and chips with coleslaw, it was the best. Nice glass of lemonade too.
Halibut and chips with a brew! Great on a hot day. Walkability: Along the Songhee walking path. This is a pub and brewery. Food and drinks: Halibut and chips was great! Raspberry sour was good!
After much searching across BC I was able to indulge in cask ale i had so fondly sort after since leaving the UK, a wonderful harbour side pub with lovely staff
5/5 location 0/5 customer service - employeee (inc manager) are improperly trained. I would highly not recommend this place. Take your business somewhere else, and save the headache of visiting this place. 1/5 food
Nice local brewery in scenic area of Victoria. Food and drink options and quality standard, indoor and outdoor seating available.
This place has really gone down hill in the last decade. We arrived Friday night with reservations, had one party in front of us (not busy) was not greeted. Waited 10 min in silence until someone awkwardly ushered us to a table. The service was awful and the food was mediocre at best. The 20-30 yo staff who work there don t look like they care about service or the customer (they seemed to be enjoying their own time together though)..
Had the beef burger and it was very tasty! Had a special house sauce and it worked well. The bun wasnt toasted on the grill but it was fresh, would be better toasted though. Caesar salad was made of kale, but was really tasty! The seafood chowder was great, but the buns werent toasted either. The soda flight was good. Service was fast and friendly! Would definitely recommend this place, and will be returning. Keep up the great work.
Nothing impresive about this place. Just pub food and drinks. Margaritas were bland. Service
Worst customer service ever....bland tasteless food ..dirty washrooms
Love the Brewers Breakfast and always great beer
Good food and service. I had a flight the beers were good
A local favourite that never disappoints! I come here often and am always impressed by the food and service. My server Mackenzie was so attentive and friendly. It s such a comfortable atmosphere with a great view. Amazing breakfast sandwiches, with house made bread and smoked salmon. First time in for breakfast and I ll definitely be back!
The two stars is for the food quality...we enjoyed our drinks but the food left a lot to be desired... completely unsatisfying... Chicken wings were extremely small...they looked like they came off a pigeon (or a bat). Also, extremely dry and way way overcooked. Sauces provided were unidentifiable and just lousy tasting...one sauce seemed like tartar sauce!? And the other seemed like a salad dressing!? For wings!!?? Truffle fries were, almost all of them, small, like a half inch long, and excessively greasy and unsatisfying. The result of the above was heartburn for the entire night and a bar bill way way too high per the low quality. Dont think we will go there again...its a shame because the drinks and atmosphere were nice...food should have been higher quality. Dont know what it is about Canada but I have yet to experience satisfying wings there...do they make your chickens differently? Lol
best place ror happy hour snack and drinks......luv it! Niki was the best server.....felt at home...atmosphere is great. Skeg. Service : 5/5
I have yet to be convinced there is a better fish and chips than here. 5yrs running. Every person I take there to get there opinion agrees its top 3 theyve had (visitors from all over BC, AB, SK)
Food was very good ( we shared clams in white wine sauce & fish and chips ) service was sadly disappointing. Not that busy and they seemed to just forgot about us. 4 stars for food and bevies 1 star for service.
This is not a hotel. But sure why I am being asked about rooms...might need to re categorize it. The restaurant was very good. We only ate light, but the soup and salads were great. What was really good was the home made ginger ale (beer)! What is strange is that they have a store but you cant buy it there! Too bad. View was awesome!

Maybe this is a forgotten treasure for a born and raised Victoria person. I used to come here a lot back in the day and then stopped. We walked over o day and we are quite happy to say we will add to our top list for food and drink destinations. Hot chicken wings are amazing. Maybe smoked and broiled on sauce. Not sure - but yum!! We also had the chicken burger on a fresh soft bun and the 3 pig pizza. Our only comment was the chaos at the front door at a time when the restaurant and upstairs was not busy, seemingly disorganized host station, and the upstairs bartender who was visibly not happy to be working.
Completely disinterested server
Yesterday, had the most macroscopic burger Ive ever had. Originally, ordered the salt & pepper chicken wings, which I always like, on second thought, decided to try the burger. Its a good thing that the chicken wings were also served despite the change of order. Always & still like Spinnakers. Please size up on a reasonable burger. Well see you again, soon. Cheers, Mark
Thank you, Steve, for great service on a beautiful patio!
Steve is the best!! The views not bad either.
After a long and busy weekend we had the nicest experience out on the patio with a view of the water. Great food and lovely service. Steve was the sweetest (!) server and so much fun even on a busy evening - Thanks Steve!
Loved Makenzie! Food was great and location beautiful.
Popped in for a quick lunch. Mackenzie recommended the salad nicoise, and it was the perfect thing. Definitely recommend! Rooms : 5/5
Food and drinks: SueSea & I love Spinnakers Seafood chowder ( SueSea has allergies to shellfish so what a treat to have a Seafood chowder with does not use Shellfish but rather Smoked Tuna, Halibut & Salmon all in a cream base). Top that off with a winning combination of Spinnaker beer, lovely view of the harbour and great service by Mackenzie and you can see why we keep coming back.
Catherine was a very friendly and helpful server, looking forwards to be back!! Food and drinks: Food & drinks are very good, this is one of our fav spots in Victoria, this time we had the mussels they were delicious so tasty, definitely recommended!!! Our server Catherine was very warming and friendly
Stayed in house and ate /drank great beer,MacKenzie was on shift for most of our stay and was professional but still friendly and helpful. Noteworthy details: Beer and view!
Mackenzie was our server and she was fantastic. Great drinks, food and atmosphere. It s a must when visiting Victoria.
We had a wonderful afternoon; fantastic food, and great interactions with our server, Molly. What a special place to enjoy a Victoria vibe!
Visited for the first time yesterday, really enjoyed the food and views! Thank you to Steve for being the warmest host! :)
Our server Mackenzie was great, very friendly and efficient. Food and drinks: Consistent great food Service : 5/5 Hotel highlights
Took my high school friend here and she loved it! We sat downstairs. Upstairs the pub atmosphere is a little loud for dinner imo. Great pizza and fish and chips. Had the hazy IPA and double IPA. Fantastic! Most of all, our server Steve carried the day!! Super attentive and polite, his upbeat manner and extensive product knowledge was very much appreciated!! I ve been coming to Spinnakers since 1990 and it NEVER disappoints.
Very enjoyable evening with good selection of beers and quality pub food. Catherine was a gracious and helpful host Walkability: Beautiful walk from downtown
Had a wonderful meal - ordered both appetizer boards for four people - everything was delicious, especially the smoked oysters and salmon. Our server Catherine was a delight - great service and suggestions that were just right for us. All in all a lovely evening!
Thank you to Steve! Our meal was delicious and so was your service! Beautiful view too. One thing tho .. it was too loud in the restaurant at the time because they were busy and the place was packed. Anyhoo, we will be back. My husband loves the mussels! Cheers!
Thank-you Steve for the amazing service!
Food and drinks: Steve was attentive and provided excellent customer service Noteworthy details: Steve was exceptional Service : 5/5 |
The food and the service is excellent. MacKenzie in particular makes us feel welcome and since were regulars at the restaurant she has our usual drinks ready before we even ask! We love it. Food and drinks: Wonderful food, excellent variety of beer and other drinks, and its so great to support a local business.
Great food, great view, great service. Mackenzie served us an amazing lunch on the patio. See you again soon!
We stopped in for lunch, Mackenzie who looked after us was absolutely great. We had the west coast fish plate and the BC cheese pizza. Everything was amazing, the service, food and ambiance was very good. Always a delicious time.
Steve was an amazing server! Great service, made a very fun experience.
Lovely friendly place- cant wait to go back!!
One of the nicest decks in town where you can enjoy a full selection of craft beer. The menu is delicious and served by sparking staff like Mackenzie!
Had lunch at Spinnakers on Monday afternoon and it was wonderful as usual. I dine there every time I go to the Island. I always ask for Mackenzie s section because I know the service will not only be fabulous but it will be engaging. She is always upbeat and fun to talk to. Food and drinks: Food is always top notch!
Great service! Mackenzie was our server, very friendly and made sure we were taken care of! Food was delicious, beer was even better
Makenzie went above and beyond to take amazing care of us as we enjoyed a delicious brunch! Spinnakers is a great environment at such a beautiful location they make great in house sauces, beverages and more definitely take a moment to enjoy a top notch meal with excellent customer service!! Thanks Makenzie!! Keep up the great work!
Mackenzie added a nice touch to our family catch-up brunch. Thanks!
Great food great location! Mackenzie provided great service as well!
Went here with my girlfriend and her sister for the first time while in town on vacation. Had a great time. Steve was our server and he was very helpful and very upbeat. Great selection of beers and great value! Would definitely come back when we re next in town!
Beautiful location, great food and service - thanks Steve!
Steve is absolutely the BEST server! Attentive, friendly, and efficient. Food was good, too! Been coming here since opening and it just never disappoints!
FYI dogs + their pawrents, the downstairs (aka the dog-friendly part) closes when it closes so call ahead to confirm if it s open after 8pm or so
Maybe Im just old Why are the servers wearing pajamas or wrinkled old track pants? Put a little effort into your appearance, you are serving the public. Apart from that, food is good, drinks are good, service efficient. Location : 4/5
Group of 10..Refused patio seat. Big group fair enough. Two groups of 5? Still wont seat. Rude hostess.
Awesome brew pub with delicious food and beer! The fish and chips here were excellent and their beer selection is great. I recommend trying to grab a patio table in the evening, since you get to watch the sun setting over the bay. Our server was also very polite and attentive. Well be back soon!
We have been regularly visiting Spinnakers as it is the closest pub to home, plus we love their bread, pizzas, flatbreads and burgers. The beer is excellent! Nut Brown, ESB & seasonal brews are our favs!! We sat outside for our most recent visit and our server, Amy, was the best! Attentive, but not overly, sincere and friendly. Really made our evening enjoyable, and kept us comfy with blankets! We had to tell her how great she was!! Thanks again!
Great food, good service and we were really impressed with the amount of house made items (salt, malt vinegar and the sodas) food came out hot and it was an awesome atmosphere!
Spinnakers has a beautiful view of the bay. I went for brunch and it was exquisite. My server Mackenzie was attentive and provided a positive experience!
The guesthouse is so cute! Lovely Victorian decor, spacious bathroom, comfy bed, and very clean. The pub is awesome too, super friendly staff and amazing food and beer. If I could give them 10 stars I would!
Little bit disappointed with spinnakers, it used to be a great local watering hole but seems to have gone downhill. Food is not great and service was slow but bartender at the front bar was really nice and helpful.
The seafood chowder is unreal! Tried a slice of the smoked salmon pizza which I didnt think I would like but would actually order after trying, it was very good. Good vibes, and good food
Smoked tuna salad was delicious. Service from MacKenzie was top notch. Highly recommend! I live in Victoria.
Decent food and good beer selection for the brew pub. They seem to have a dog friendly patio. Accepted Amex.
Been there a few times for dinner, always enjoyed the food. Went for lunch , delicious as well. Discovered today they also did breakfast and guess what, yep delicious as well! Had the benedicts with the spinach and smoke salmon and wow! Our waitres MacKenzie was courteous and just perfect!
The food is consistenly excellent and my server Mackenzie could take a friendly joke about finding her purple hair in my fruit compote.
Ive been coming to Spinnakers since the mid-80s and it is still a favorite place to go. There is a dog friendly area and the beer is fantastic.
Stunning property with sun-drenched southern exposure makes it a worthwhile destination that is ever so slightly off the beaten path. The beer is as good as one might expect from a local craft brewer who has been in business 39 years (in 2023). I cant really say whether they objectively meet the bar to be a gastro pub, but the food is a noticeable cut above regular pub-grub. The only comment to their detriment is that they may be taking the fine dining pursuit a touch too far. Case in point, if Im paying $24 for a pasta (a delicious Clam and capers fettuccine) dont make the portion size like something an 8year old would need dessert after. Cmon people, patrons should leave well sated, not immediately looking for the next restaurant to get an actual meal.
Stayed at the guest bungalow for the first time. Super charming, clean, and comfortable. Our cycling group enjoyed the overall vibe of the place so much we ended up going to the brewpub for dinner and brunch. Both meals were prepared wonderfully with tasty, local ingredients. Front desk and restaurant staff were friendly, accommodating, and helpful. As expected, the beer selection and quality were great but we were more impressed by the sheer variety of stuff made in-house: soda, smoked salmon, ice cream, cookies, shortcake, chocolates, and more! Everything is delicious and made our stay feel all the more cozy and special. Without a doubt, well be back next year! Rooms: Clean, comfy, charming. Walkability: Beautiful waterfront walkway nearby. Food and drinks: Excellent in-house craft beverages and ingredients. Noteworthy details: Canadas oldest gastro brewpub!
My first Spinnakers experience was introduced by Amy she was our server and gave us the best service and took quality time to check in on us , Amy gave us food and drink recommendations that we now love , we hope to come back and see her again !
My first and only spinnaker s experience was nothing short of amazing. the food was delectable and the drinks were to die for. Our server Amy was so accommodating and made us feel so special. Thank you Amy and thank you Spins!!
Had a dear friend visiting - we went for breakfast & our server Mackenzie was lovely & helpful (my friend has several health conditions that make meal choices a challenge!). We enjoyed breakfast so much, we went back for dinner! & the next morning too!! Beautiful restaurant location, friendly staff, good quality food - a fantastic neighbourhood local!
It was a fantastic experience amazing food, great beer and nice atmosphere!!
Phenomenal service (Amy), wonderful view and overall great vibe! Will be back soon,
Mackenzie is very professional and gives us great service. She s the reason why we come weekly for work meetings.
Mackenzie served our table and she was fantastic! Would come back just for her .
Have eaten here several times over the past year. The food never disappoints but the menu favorites like schnitzel, Salisbury steak or meatloaf have been missing for a while. Service can be very hit and miss depending on the competency of the server. Good selection of beers and drinks. We would have ordered more and had dessert if the server had returned to ask., he seemed very flighty. This is NOT a restaurant for kids, it is a pub.
Called ahead to ask about the patio since we were bringing our small pup. Was told they had two patios available. When we arrived it was a cluster#*% where the servers didn t know what was going on, people were not being greeted or seated. It took 15 min for someone to greet us and then say they had no patio. Then they said we could sit on a side deck/patio but would have no server / we would order from the bar. So we did. Food arrived and was decent but when we went to order drinks (and we were the only patrons on this side patio) the bartender completely ignored me to visit with a friend for a few minutes. Doing this time, about 6-8 drink orders came through. The bartender became overwhelmed and then said to me that my order would have to wait until the others were completed (even though I had been standing there the entire time). I would not recommend this place as others have being super pet friendly. I d go without my pup to get service next time.
My husband and I had brunch at Spinnakers this morning and Mackenzie was our server. Great food, was super sunny and Mackenzie was an excellent server! Friendly, quick with a great personality! Thanks!
Amy was such a super server! Thanks so much for the great experience at Spinnakers!
Good food, lovely setting. Our server, Mackenzie, was great - friendly, efficient, and attentive without being overbearing. Perfect place for lunch.
Mackenzie is always has a smile one her face, remembers your name and pays attention to you as a customer. She s terrific and an asset to the team.
Had another great experience at Spinnakers. Amy was our server out on the patio and made sure we had everything we need.
Went for my birthday lunch with my family and got great service from. Molly!!! The food(beer ) and view were second to none! We will definitely be returning customers! Service
Loved coming for happy hour before covid and enjoying a drink and some fries, which are quite nice. Today, coming for dinner was disappointing. The pizza was dry and when asking for olive oil, it seems like vegetable oil or really weak olive oil. The mussels and fries at 26cad was maybe half a pound (counted 13 mussels) with fries and felt cheap. Positive note however is that upon complaining, they took 25% off the bill, which was nice. Will come back likely but during happy hour and stick with the basic items. Service was fine. The views are nice.
My first dining experience at the Spinnakers dates back to 2009. Clocking some 14 years later, I found the food and services are still top notch. The seasonal patio seating was quite enjoyable with lots of fresh air and a gentle ocean breeze. The view of the Victoria Inner Harbour was also nice. Food and drinks: Nice and tasty food!
It had been a number of years since being here and first time with a dog. They have a small patio off to the side for a few groups with pups. The views were still great and the beer is tasty. Food and drinks: Beer is always great. Nice selection of their own brews.
Came into eat Aug 10.23. Hostess, was not professional nor helpful. Not professional attire, cellphone in back pocket, no cares. Noticed tile on floor dirty and worn. Resturant needs overhaul. Yes I know industry unprofitable. Not my choice though. 10 Minutes before we were addressed for food/drink. Drink was good, fancy cocktail. Water was one glass, never refilled. Had loaded beef burger ($27) Burger was not good. Beef was not tasty and over seasoned. Bun was a 10 cent kiser bun. Cheese was disgusting. Cold-slaw was over sauced. Mustard was forgotten. Had way too much mayo even asking for light mayo. Mushrooms tasted like canned mushrooms, and not cooked properly. Wife had pulled pork. was ok again, disgusting bun. Fries crispy but not fresh. Server bailed on us and had to get another server to do check out.$5.00 tip was probably too much. Would not return. This place used to be quite nice. Next time Browns Social House or Lure. Thanks I hope it improves. Food and drinks: Not great drinks ok but food terrible
Today I had the worst experience ever! This used to be my go to watering hole for a number of years as I used to live on Robert St. Returning to my usual spot at the bar upstairs ordering my go to Moules Frites, only to be brought Mussels Mariniere. The server at the bar inputted the wrong item and then says she can fix it by sending it back... I put 3 empty shells in the centre and that is what was returned to me as THE FIX. It took 15+minutes to cook the original and now returning with the original plate of mussels with a pile of onions, roasted garlic and oily fries in under 5 minutes. This place has gone downhill, prices have gone skyrocket and the beer was mediocre at best. Simcoe Sunset was not hazy at all. I will not return, nor will I ever recommend this place! 1star because I cant leave no stars.
I visited Spinnakers 3 weeks ago andI noticed a menu item that looked over the top to my tastes, so I returned yesterday to try it out. It was a busy Saturday evening but I got seated promptly in their outside garden meadow on the lovely sunshine. My server, a young man was very aware and prompt and opened up the experience with a big smile and plenty of friendly enthusiasm. I ordered the beef cheek pasta, a featured meal and a house IPA. I completely enjoyed my meal which arrived sooner than the apparent business may have suggested. My server noticed everything and brought a water refill without a prompt, and checked on my needs several times. Well done, thank you all. I look forward to a future trip to Victoria and another treat at Spinnakers. Food and drinks: I always find something new and delicious in Spinnakers craft beer selection. They usually have several IPA s available and their servers are well informed on the differences.
Poor service, it took almost an hour to sit down and almost a half hour to get service once seated. Overall a very poor experience.
Busy.. busy.. patio is a narrow porch and the front lawn ..mobility issues make it a challenge. To get down the front stairs but the view of the harbor is nice . Service is good considering the multiple levels and hidden corners that give you a choice of quiet conversation.. or a large group of friends together..nice change from downtown.. clean .. enjoyable not a hotel .. pub/ restaurant .
Lovely place to stop and sample local beer, gin or vodke. Lovely beer garden. Friendly staff. Just over the bridge from downtown Victoria, a nice walk or a short cycle!
Amazing, all around. Food is great, brews are better! We stayed in the guest house and wow what a treat. Victoria waterfront vibes at a great price.
We went to Spinnakers last night to celebrate our six month anniversary. We typically go to Spinnakers on a weekly basis. Really disappointing service last night. First we had to deal with a rude hostess. Then we ordered an appetizer and our dinner and the appetizer never showed up and the dinner showed up 30 minutes later. It was delicious, but just a bit disappointing as we were looking forward to trying the appetizer. We had a different server partway through our dinner and nothing was said. The servers were both lovely but my boyfriends plate was removed before I finished eating. We will continue to go to Spinnakers as the food is always delicious and we usually we have better service.
Excellent place. Food and drinks top notch. The cream cheese was to die for. I love the soda flight. Ambience is very nice.
Excellent food and great food!
One of my favorite spots. The pool tables and food are great, yet the service of the staff, lead by the bartender Madeline sets this establishment apart.
And now! Spinnakers offers a delicious cream ale - it has quickly become one of my favourite beers in Victoria. Add this to the spelt sourdough, fine chocolates, and daily focaccia bread available at the takeaway counter.....fantastic in the neighbourhood.
Great place to end up on a rainy day in Victoria. Beautiful walk here to have fabulous food and a great atmosphere.
Waited over an hour for food. No explanation. Apparently this is normal then. Terrible service.
Nice patio and the grilled cheese was top notch!
This is more of a Pub or restaurant. Not a restaurant. Good selection brews but a bit noisy for a friendly evening of conversation.
Always has excellent beer with excellent service and atmosphere. My favourite pub in Victoria!
Had a restaurant reservation for Monday night, through Robin. Got there to a totally blacked out frontage and carpark, somewhat piss poor. It got better inside, our reservation was for the sports bar upstairs. The restaurant had more chairs on tables than the 6 customers. Poor poor service, thats a 15 year plus tradition over. Oh well all good things fail, and the Spinnakers surely has
Great local pub near the water in Lime Bay. There is an upstairs pub and a downstairs area more suitable for dining. You can get good views of the inner harbour from the deck space and most window seats. The beer is decent and reasonably priced. The food can be hit or miss. The same goes for the service. We will be back for more, so hopefully, there is an improvement.
Good service and nice selection of home made beers and more. Top notch views.
Sharing a meal with my Daughter on the patio at Spinnakers was lovely. We had a Nutbrown Ale and Wild mushroom Flatbread. So delicious. The view is awesome... Update Stopped by for a glass of wine,, Shrimp Flatbread and Pumpkin Cheesecake. Good service and awesome food.
Not sure whats going on, but the third problematic meal in a row in the last month-and-a-bit. Tonight - cold fries that tasted like they had been sitting in a vat of old grease. Halibut - warm, but likewise with the grease overpowering the fish. Browned tartar sauce. Serving staff seemed on edge. Principle server seemed eager to cash out. Server who delivered food didnt acknowledge the thank you. Perhaps a rough day for all? Whats up?
Get the harbour fog, best drink ever
OK food and free pool
Good selection of craft beers and ales and delicious halibut and chips.
2024 review update....go to Boom and Batten Table of 8 Upstairs Waitress AM (she refuse to give me her name) told me to grab the food myself Tables drink order and food order was missed. When asked for the bill, she told me I can come up and grab the bill myself. Then she told me to go downstairs and pay because she is too busy. She proclaim to my table if I was a dine and dasher (someone texted me after) and came downstairs and lied that she was bringing me the machine. Okay Jenny Slate wannabe, please stop talking because your voice is like a nail on chalk board. The restaurant was 1/2 empty. If she cant handle a few tables, then I suggest she doesnt quit her day job. Past Reviews Positive: Great selection of kraft beers. Food is okay. Price in par with everyone else. Ambiance is nice facing the water. Negative: can get busy and noisy. Waitress charge me 2 beers instead of one and claim someone on my table drank one, yet she doesnt recall serving me that extra drink. I guess if some people needed tips so bad, they could have just ask. Food for thought: double check your bill.
Always great service. Love the atmosphere. Very chill, happy. Love the old building and the aesthetic. And the view!
Good beer, nice view, but this place is not a Gastro pub. The food is very basic.
Good beer with friendly service but the food is underwhelming.
Really good salmon burger
