The Village Restaurant - Oak Bay in Victoria

This was once my favourite breakfast place but it suffered the curse of brunch spots with long waits so I hadnt visited for a long time. I invited a business friend to meet me there for breakfast. I was genuinely excited - I love latkes and this used to be where I could get a eggs benny on latkes. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I needed to flag our server down after being there a while (and I worked in hospitality so not impatient). I gave my order and she offered me the choice of potatoes or a salad. I went with potatoes. The food arrived and I requested ketchup (I dont eat this condiment on anything but home fries!) None available, OK. As I started eating the benny tasted off. I ate a few of the bare potatoes but would have ordered the salad instead had it been revealed earlier. After I ate the poached egg and hollandaise off the top and flipped the first latke, it was burnt. Both latkes were burnt and turned upside down. Mystery solved. I stopped eating. The server came to clear plates (my friends pancakes were a hit) and asked me what was wrong I explained and she acknowledged and apologized. She returned with a bill that had a $5 discount on a $23 item that was truly horrible. I totally understand when things go wrong in a kitchen but this was a case of someone burning a major component and then hiding it. I wont ever go back to this Village location. Ive heard the Royal Oak one isnt bad.

Multiple open tables. Multiple open tables for 2. I come to the restaurant wanting to have breakfast and the host tells me I have to wait for the bar to open up to spend my money here. Won t be supporting this restaurant with my business anymore.

Good neighbourhood brunch place...

I did not get the hype as I tasted my food, the bagels on my west coast salmon Benny, was hard as a rock Theyve probably reduced the quantity of the potatoes. Plus the wait time is insane almost waited an hour for the food. Overall probably a miss for the next time

They dont control the weather, but man, it was a fantastic fall day. Great food and a photo accommodating server. Highly recommend.

One of my favourite salads in the city (with the chicken!) Had to grab a jar of the curry balsamic dressing to go, it was just that good! Bennys were a win of course too! Great outdoor patio! Highly recommend!

Loved this location. First time at any The Village location. Loved the outdoor patio and the inside was equally interesting and comfortable. I am a vegetarian and was a bit worried about the menu. But when you get there, the weight staff will help you navigate the menu and create all sorts of wonderful and interesting vegetarian options. I had one of the Benny s without eggs, added avocado, and it was on their signature latkes. It came with breakfast potatoes, and fruit on the side and it was delicious and the perfect portion size. The weight staff were welcoming and offered excellent service. After your meal, take a walk down to Willows Beach for a little stretch. It s so beautiful.

Was in the mood for Eggs Benedict but Im not a fan of putting benny on anything other than an English muffin, which wasnt an option, so I got the BLT and soup instead. That was excellent. The ciabatta was fluffy and crunchy. The cappuccino was cafe quality, great coffee. Service was nice and very effective considering how busy it was.

Ticked all the boxes for me. Food was great, servers were friendly and personable. Accommodated my custom breakfast . Even brought us a special peach hot sauce . I work in the service industry, so am a bit critical at times. They nailed it!!

Dietary restrictions: Did not carefully check for my food allergy. I trusted the service but was rather ill afterward.

Simplicity done so, so well. Had a latke benny and was blown away. Not too heavy, not oily at all compared to other latkes I ve had. The house coffee was phenomenal - it didn t overpower the meal, but was a nice complement. Pleasant, fast service (even on a Sunday!), and great atmosphere inside. Will be visiting again.

Tiny place the heart of this cute little shopping district in Oak Bay neighbourhood. Creative menu and the bread was very fresh. I had the opportunity to try 3 different sandwiches (brie & apple, BLT w avocado, the Estevan (chicken *club*) and all were superb. Go out of your way to try this little lunch spot!

My husband and I absolutely love this place! Their staff are so friendly and the food is amazing everytime! I have been to every single Village in Victoria for breakfast and it s always been our favourite experience. I highly recommend the red barn Benny! (They even accommodate my little baby with open arms and smiles) cannot recommended enough!

Second time Ive been to this location. Second time is been a huge let down. Bithe times (different dishes) the food has come out ice cold. I ordered the BAAT Omleyte and it came with chunks of processed ham not what I was expecting. I definitely wont be returning to this particular location.

Bad service and servers are obnoxious , got served our burgers they were over cooked to the point of falling apart and the grease the dripped from them was so disgusting it turned us off our appetite. Found Egg shells in the eggs, over cooked and tasteless? couldnt get our drinks in time and had to remind their servers repeatedly, who were busy gossiping instead of working. Wont go there again if I were you.

Always a special place to go if you want a good meal. Parking right out front. Busy at lunch times so come early. Some seating outside as well as in. Everything is tasty so depending on your own tastes you can find something to enjoy. consistent quality and service. Latkes, Eggs Benny are two of our favourites, soups and sandwich. full breakfast. Maria the manager was extremely rude. Looks like she was having a bad day and just take it off on the client. Really recommend go elsewhere. Food is good I was just unlucky to deal with this rude person. Arrogant and sarcastic. Does mot enjoy her Job.

All in all a solid brunch and lunch option in Estevan Village/Oak Bay. I ve been here a few times over the years and always had a good experience. The food and service are both good. Prices are on the expensive side but the food and experience are of good quality. This place is very popular so you should expect a wait during the busier brunch hours. The good thing is that Willows Beach is a ten minute walk away so you can put your name down and go for a nice walk while you wait, or alternatively you could pop across to Ruth and Dean for a coffee.

Beautiful restaurant inside and out, went for brunch and had to wait a little because it was a bit busy but at the end of the meal will be more than happy to wait again. French toast and Red Barn benny was on point, portion size were very good and momosa was a nice healthy pour.

For brunch, the 4 of us enjoyed the Red Barn, Big Al, Oak Bay Hash & Salmon Lox on Latkes (thank you, chef, for subbing latkes for a bagel & for giving me so many capers!) And we all raved! The apple cinnamon mimosa was delish! Our server, Brittany, was pleasant and so accommodating. Thanks to the Village for a lovely, scrumptious brunch! We loved it so much, we came back twice in 3 days!

Busy but efficient place with delicious food, real back bacon, Bennys on Lattke for something a bit different, delicious salad and dressing, and an amazing Shaft. Definitely will return.

Great that they have a patio and you could bring your dog, but the food was so-so. Great eggs benedict, potatoes we got were cold and somewhat undercooked. Service was slow, one order was incorrect (even though they wrote it down), took forever for a coffee refill and to clear dishes. One staff member seemed more interested in taking photos of my dog even though she was barking and I asked not to.

The space is a bit small for the traffic its gotten. But amazing breakfast. I got the Challah French Toast paired with 2 eggs and back bacon. It was served with fresh fruits. Coffee wasnt too special. But will be back for the breakfast menu for sure.

Drove across town for a special brunch treat. Arrived here at 11am and was told it would be 1/2 hr - 45 minute wait. We took a walk around the village and returned a full hour later when we moved up to 3rd in line. Watched a couple behind us on the waitlist get seated before us. Not sure how many others bumped us but the hostess gave full snark when I signalled that it was now time for us to get a seat as tables were very much being vacated. By 1pm we found ourselves starving and still waiting for food. Will not be returning.

Bad service, poor ambiance, slightly overpriced. Ordered the Estevan Sandwich which was disappointing and french toast, which turned out to be the only good thing about this place.

Fresh ingredients, lovely presentation. Generous portions. We had the red shakshuka as well as the Caveman Benny with a latke on the side. Very tasty. Their homemade hot sauce was really good

What a great breakfast. I had a wonderful mexican variation of eggs bennys - the Benicio del Toro on latke. So tasty, I plan to have it again soon. Their decaf coffee was also delicious.

I was there two months ago and ordered the Latkes. The presentation was lovely but they were extremely salty. I was anxious to give them another chance and went back today. I had the Challah French toast. The bread was dry and there was only a thin coating of egg batter. I really wanted to like this restaurant. The staff are pleasant and professional. Unfortunately the kitchen is letting the front of the restaurant down.

This is the reason I go to Victoria early in the morning so I can eat here. The bennys are always perfect medium poach and the inhouse hot sauce is something I buy I bring home. I have had all the breakfast items now and will be eating here as long they are open. I suggest the Slaters and the Oak Bay Hash these are 2 of my favorite items. This is worth the trip from Vancouver just to eat here.

Our favorite breakfast place any time of day! Make sure you have the latkes, best ever potato pancakes and gluten free. They use chicken pea flour.

Excellent service, everyone was so friendly and professional! And the food was absolutely amazing! The fruit were sweet and juicy and the portions were generous. Kids got a menu to colour in with crayons and their options were equally good! Wouldnt change anything in our experience there. Five stars!

Always loved this place for amazing (consistently so) breakfast and brunch options. Eggs benny on latkes? Changed my world forever in the best of ways. Shout out to Josh who was a ray of sunshine the other week, very attentive and prompt the whole time we were there. Even came out to apologize to my friend for having accidentally brought them a childrens temperature hot chocolate (it was already long gone). Friend didnt even notice, and honestly their inner child could not have been happier.

Had a great experience for brunch. The food was delicious and the coffee was perfect. Our server (dont remember his name but the tallest guy there!) Was the friendliest, happiest person I have ever met. His energy is contagious and he made our day!

My hubby and I used to love this place since the beginning of this restaurant. delicious food, large portion, especially drop three. We used to visit every weekend. But when the place becomes more and more popular, it takes longer and longer to wait for the food. One day, I waited more than one and half hour for my brunch and still got nothing. Customers who ordered after us even got their dinners. So I got really mad and stop visiting. It s not worth to have a brunch to wait hours.

The BEST brunch place in Victoria, in my humble opinion! It is intimate and the food is delicious. They have so many bennys to choose from, and they are all amazing! Are the busy and have to put you on the wait-list? No problem! It is a 5 min stroll to beautiful Willows beach, where you can soak in the sea breeze and work up an appetite. The mimosas are a perfect aside to any dish ;) They are local, responsible, and truly embrace the island way. Every time I have out-of-town friends/family visit I bring them here and without fail they are impressed! Cant recommend highly enough <3

This place has the best eggs Benedict I have ever had. Great french toast as well. They make every thing from scratch and very fresh. The best place to eat brunch in Victoria hands down. I recommend this place 100% you will not be disappointed. Love love love. I wish I could come back for lunch but they close at 2.

An innovative breakfast/brunch lineup. I particularly enjoyed the Figgy Piggy Benny. Charming service but be prepared for a leisurely pace. I cant wait to revisit.

Requested table for 8. They said they cant accommodate 8 people with no reservation, fair enough. So just say we need two tables of 4. Said they cant do that. I asked what the difference is if two different people walk up for tables of 4. Said not their policy. I really love the food here which is why we drove across town just to come here. Dont quite understand why we couldnt split the group and be seated at different times... not very impressed

The Village Restaurant on Estevan Avenue reminds me of Edgemont Village in North Van or Bowen Island Trunk Road on Bowen Island. A super place with a nice sized patio and a small space inside to eat as well. Apparently famous for their potato Latkes and Bennies, we tried them. I had the Montreal smoked meat Bennie with Latkes as the base. My wife had Latkes with Portobello mushrooms. Both were amazing and then taken to the next level with their homemade hot sauce. The sauce was so good I bought 2 jars as well. Service was great and the place is popular so be prepared to wait a bit (5-15 minutes). It is worth it!

Took my sister today for the first time for lunch. I had the big Al, it was awesome, my sister had the red barn Benny. We really enjoyed our experience at this great restaurant. Good to see Jason again. Thanks for the great service, I ll be back soon. Geoff

Coming to the Oak Bay Area, this restaurant was recommended both by a tourist website and the front desk at our hotel, so of course we had to stop by. Great service by the staff and delicious food, we could see they were busy but the turnaround time was not bad. Eggs Benny options were what the people around us were ordering so we followed the example, no regrets!

It was really busy, so service was a bit slow. But the food was great. I had the Shakshouka and I couldnt finish it. It was a very large serving. Very tasty.

Saturday morning breakfast invariably means The Village on Estevan. When the owner and his wife eat in a restaurant--you know it serves great food [the omelettes, shakshouka and the challah french toast are to die for]. And the service is top flight!

I came around noon, it was full and a 45 minute wait. I was kind of disappointed, went to star bucks had a mocha, look at some reviews about this location! They were all great, so I stayed, came back, I was seated and ordered the loc and bagel. With a side of poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. I was very happy with everything Service was great. The ceaser had a pickle! Ill definitely be coming back Thanks :-)

Decide to try the Village at oak bay surprise that they didnt have waffles but instead had French toast a great change and boy they were delicious I usually go to the one in Royal Oak to see Andrew and his gang Im guessing the owners Runs his Restaurant all the same way great service and even great food keep up the great job

Not your average bennies and basic breakfast. Bennies on Latkas, corned beef sandwiches and wonderful side salads. Estavan Village has been my favourite location, but I havent tried the new ones Chinatown, Shelbourne and Royal Oak.

Oh my gosh. The Italian Benny was amazing! Huge pieces of portebello mushrooms on potato latkes... It was heavenly. The pumpkin pancakes were also delicious. Service was top notch and friendly. The restaurant itself was clean. This is definitely a go to place for delicious brunch.
