We were in town for a volleyball tournament and picked this place for dinner because it had good reviews. We were looking forward to a nice meal after a long day… I ordered a drink that was on the menu but I was told that they no longer serve it. Then I asked for Monkey 47 gin and tonic but they couldn’t serve it to me because they only had a half of ounce of gin left. I asked for a different brand of gin but they didn’t have tonic. We ordered lobster lasagna that was on the menu but we were told that they no longer serve it because the new chef doesn’t know how to make it. We decided to go for a couple of appetizers instead. The duck wings turned out to be duck legs and they were dry, overcooked, greasy with no taste. The beef tartar had no taste and did not look fresh. We had a bite of each and end up not eating the rest of the food. The taste, quality and freshness were unacceptable. We returned to the hotel and my husband was very sick after eating at this restaurant!.
I’m truly surprised that this place has such good reviews, as this was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The beef tartar was under-seasoned, and it seems like all the seasoning that should have gone there was piled onto my tenderloin, which was so salty that I was shocked. Truly a disappointing way to spend a birthday celebration. The only thing nice about this restaurant was the service. The staff were very nice and quick.
This is my favourite place to go for great drinks, food, and service in Victoria. Everytime me and my friend come here we have a lovely time. We try to come on nights when Carla is working, because she is the best. Her friendliness and attentiveness is why we keep coming back. As for the food and drinks, there's such a great variety of things. Love all the prosecco drinks and creative cocktails. The charcuterie board has to be one of the best, nice assortment and size especially for the reasonable price. And of course we always finish with espresso martinis and the shaft creme brule. The atmosphere in the lounge side is also so lovely ❤
My Wife and I came for drinks. Showed up and it was Happy Hour. The service was prompt and attentive. We both had two cocktails each and shared a third. I had "The palms Mai Tai and "Nothing to Hide" and we shared "The Palm Piña Colad" I enjoyed all the drinks. The Mai Tai is not a tradition 1944 trader vics Mai Tai but you should know that from reading the ingredients but it was tastey. "Nothing to hide" was very good. Very well balanced and went down too easy. The Piña Colada is like the Mai Tai, as it's not the traditional and I actually liked it more than a resort style. It was a nice surprise. Not too sweet which is what I was expecting but it was smooth and creamy and delicious. Well done on the drinks, we'll have to come.back for food next time.
My partner and I visited the lounge during happy hour for drinks - it wasn't busy at all, so we were seated quickly and the service was fantastic. I had The Answer (a really, really good cocktail - incredibly flavorful and balanced) and an Empress 75 (honestly, not stellar). My partner had Nothing to Hide & The Palms Mai Tai, which he really enjoyed. We shared a Piña Colada to end the adventure, and it was really interesting (in a good way!). If you enjoy fun, yummy cocktails, you should give this place a go.
Fine dining that lives up to its moniker. The lobster lasagna, which is not pasta based at all, was fabulous. The drinks menu has a full page of exotic non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails. Everything was delicious, and The Palms is highly rated for a reason. Friendly service.
I visited The Palms Restaurant & Lounge this past weekend with a friend of mine and have nothing but positive remarks to make. The atmosphere of the dining side was aesthetic and chic. Our waitress was soft spoken and did her job quite well. As an appetizer I had the Papaya and Ponzu Pork Steamed Bao Buns and they were by far the most delicious meal of the night. For dinner I had the baked spaghetti squash and while it was good, I found that the sauce a little overwheling to the over all dish. The chocolate fondue dish was delicious however I feel as if it lacked fruits and lady fingers to the amount of fondue. There was a lot of chocolate left over which isn't always a good sign. Over all the experience here was great and I will definitely be back.
Had dinner here with one of my friends! The service was great. The lady was very soft-spoken and did her job well. The ambiance was chic and elegant with a warm golden glow. Food was delicious. I had vegan dumplings 10/10 and the beet ravioli was in a coconut spicy creamy sauce which I . The fondue chocolate for dessert lovely but my one critique is at there wasn’t enough fruit and ladyfingers to dip into it compared to the amount of chocolate!
The items we went for were no longer offered. We were told the menu is being changed because of a new cook, but they couldn t suggest any new items, only told us what we couldn t have. The pork chop that came out had different sides than described. I would have given 4 stars if the seafood wasn t raw in the middle because what we had was still tasty. Service was good though.
We spent a week in Canada! Knew we wanted to go somewhere nice while we were there! Food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the duck appetizer and I have to say it was the best duck Ive ever had and the Cosmopolitan was perfect!
A Delightful Dining Experience at The Palm I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Palm, and it was truly a lovely experience from start to finish. The service was both fast and efficient, with an incredibly attentive staff that ensured every detail contributed to an exceptional visit. I indulged in the chicken pappardelle, which was perfectly prepared and flavorful, followed by a crème brûlée that offered a delightful contrast creamy with a touch of sesame elegance. Lastly, a special note to one of the team members pursuing an art degree: I wish you the best of luck! Whatever path you choose, I have no doubt it will lead to success. The Palm effortlessly combines quality cuisine with outstanding hospitality a spot I would gladly recommend to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.
Had our christmas party here and everything was great. Was treated extremely well, and the food was too notch.
Heard from friends that this restaurant was amazing. Went there Friday night and it did not disappoint. The food and service was a 20 out of 10. The atmosphere was beautiful. The steak melted in your mouth. The Palms will definitely see us again and again and Food
Loved our evening at the Palms. It s a beautiful space with great atmosphere and service. And the food was Amazing. We ll be back very soon!
I have only been for cocktails, but the service and drinks have been absolutely fantastic every time Ive been in. Kid-friendliness: Not
Excellent! We sat in the bar and had appetizers and drinks. The owners were delightful, and the service was excellent. They also have a sports lounge and a dining room. We will definitely be back!
I feel like this is a bit of a hidden gem in downtown Victoria! Been coming for years and the service and atmosphere are always great. I normally just get drinks but we had food tonight as well which was great and all affordably priced (for 2024). One of my favourite places here!
Food
Great service from reservations until the very end, the food was unique and well prepared, and everyone of our group of 5 enjoyed their meal.
Had room service. Wasnt feeling well so wont say anything about taste but my order missed a slice of cheese which would have made my burger much better. We will be back next year to try again.
Super staff and service. Very accomodating. Excellent food and cocktails!
Okay, a lot of stuff to unpack here. Service was very friendly and outgoing. Id even say top tier in terms of friendliness. That being said, kinda felt like the staff was awkward and not quite set into their roles. The manager took my drink order and brought me water. It was a nice gesture, but I immediately could tell something was off because he raised the pitch of his voice when I asked for one of the craft cocktails. Well, I realized why because it took a really long time to get my drink, and the bartender had to consult the bar bible. Honestly, thats not a huge deal to me either. The problem is that the bartender was also serving the entire floor, with multiple high maintenance tables. You cant execute a swift cocktail bar while also having table service at this level. How do I know this? Because I used to run a ten seat bar with 35 cocktails and ten tables all by myself, and we would fill up regularly. I would say sorry, the customers would also say sorry because theyd realized I was shafted with unreasonable expectations, and then wed joke about it. The food took forever. I dont think I ordered anything complicated, and if I did, the restaurant was empty, so whatever. So, how do they fix it? The manager needs to do more. Sorry, manager. I know your job sucks, and you already have a huge workload. Too bad. Its you and one other person on the floor, and even though you were trying to help, you were going at like 10% of the pace of the bartender. Your presence on the floor could go a lot further to up the level of service. I tried to keep an eye on what was happening with all the other tables and bar patrons while I was there, and it was friendly but slow service from what I could see. So yeah, timelinewise first drink took about twenty minutes, placed my food order at about thirty minutes. Finished my drink and started the stopwatch (21:04.23 minutes). lol, I hate being this petty, but Im so sick of fake service in BC just do what youre capable of executing! You will make more money if you can execute stuff quickly! Simplify! The bottom line is that it took over twenty minutes between finishing my first drink and ordering my second drink half an hour without anything in front of me. Sadly the food came later! (Even though I just ordered a salad) They nailed the salad, but the tofu add-on was lackluster. The food quality was really good otherwise, but I have a hard time getting overwhelmed tofu add-on I think of all the places Ive left a bad review. This is the one that hurts the most because the staff were genuinely nice. The atmosphere was awesome in terms of interior design, but the elderly clientele and otherwise empty bar was a buzzkill. If I could sum up the experience in one would be sterile. Nevertheless, I will be back, because I want to believe this review will help, and I do see the makings or potential. Please take into account my critiques. This is the kind of spot I want to bring my friends, but at least from my experience it felt more like the local shuffleboard club was checking in. Please dont fail me! I need places to spend money! I will be back in two weeks. Theres a reason the Palms is slow the vibe is awesome, everything else is off. Edit: I snuck in a couple of weeks later. And it was even more dreadful. Didnt get the opportunity to even order food... not even sure if food was available whatever, it is what it is. Service was awful, kind of felt off. I feel like a lot of awkwardness could be solved with an explanation of food availability. Not even sure if food was available, but I was starving, so if it was, oopsies! Would have spent way more. Welcome to Victoria I guess. The manager who was there last time was now wearing all black and pretending to be a server. Again did not help and ended up clocking out and drinking at the bar. Did some digging and found that this guy has a bad reputation. Advice; sell your lot in the business, because I think it will go downhill with the next wave.. Takeaway: you have good reviews, yet youre dead. Ask yourself why?
We went in at Happy Hour. The bartender was really helpful and the place began to get livelier but not too loud that you couldnt hear the person next to you. An overall very chill laid back atmosphere
Surprisingly generous portions of delicious fine dining! Wonderful flavors, great service. Couldnt recommend enough
OMG, one of the BEST vegan experiences Ive ever had in Victoria! From the Matcha cocktail I couldnt get enough of, to the plant based dumplings, stuffed poblano peppers and berry cheesecake dessert, I was overwhelmed by taste! Ill defs he be back and suggest you enjoy then as well
Came for an engagement dinner, the food was incredibly mid (my steak had a smearing of cajun seasoning on it which I had to scrape off and my fiancé couldn t even eat her lasagne, which was actually more like a stew and no where near a lasagna), and they were pretty lukewarm about the special occasion we were sharing with them. We spent about $200 here. Overall we wished we went elsewhere. For these prices, we expected way more hospitality.
Axel was a fantastic server.
Went for cocktails and their charcuterie board. The place is fantastic! Great selection of wines and cocktails. Service is top notch and our server Carla was amazing, perfectly attentive without being intrusive. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner over a nice bourbon discussion and hospitable sampling. We highly recommend the Palms and will definitely return on our next visit to Victoria.
Dietary restrictions: Some good gf options. Want to definitely try the gf lobster lasagna Food
Very good meal. We ordered three different meals and everyone liked what they got.
Great food .great drinks. Great friends made for a great night
Went as a work party, had a lovely time!
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Rialto this past weekend and visited The Palms twice during our visit. We had a blast both times and fell in love with the cocktails we had. Great spot for Happy Hour. Staff and service were awesome and friendly!
Went there on a Sunday evening so it wasnt busy. Our server was wonderful (cant remember her name). I had the PLANT BASED BEET RAVIOLI - VEGAN. It was delicious - a little curry undertone to it. We also had the PAPAYA & PONZU PORK STEAMED BAO BUNS. They were delicious - the crispy onions were a bit salty but overall good. I would fly back to Victoira and this place would be on my list of places to go again!
Group of 4 for dinner, was good :) service was great, good was good, we shared tomato medley, guacamole tortillas and truffle chips for entree and each had lamb shanks (x2), lobster lasagne and chicken pappardelle, all of which were delicious. Service was fantastic
Brother, this place is really terrible. Run quickly
Always come here when im visiting Victoria Food always delish Drinks always great Service excellent Food : 5/5 |
I went during happy hour. They have a wide selection of craft beer, cocktails, and wine, and when I ordered fries and tacos, I was satisfied with the amount. The price was also great.
Takes longer than you would expect because the food is better than you would expect. We have had desert here twice because it was that good even with all the choices in Victoria. After a few minutes of waiting a gentleman waiting near us overheard us complaining and told us it was worth the wait and he was right! I cant wait to try a full dinner.
The cuisine is amazing and the atmosphere is laid back, so you can truly unwind and enjoy the meal. We had lunch here, and we had a great experience. Guys, keep up the wonderful work!
Amazing cocktails.
Our server was incredibly kind and attentive, and the food was excellent! We appreciate your accommodations.
This place has always been amazing and reliable. Good food, good drinks, good vibes. Nothing more you can ask for!
Great service and great cocktails!
The skinny: great service by a very qualified, professional, individual who wasn t at all responsible for the bad food. However this happened during the summer, and their menu has since changed. The rub: We went in for the restaurant, it was very clean, everyone was extremely friendly and well mannered, we had some good cocktails and ordered. She had a deconstructed tuna dish that was basically a pokè bowl with all the ingredients lined upside by side. It tasted good. I ordered a cob salad, with bbq chicken. The abomination they brought to me was a hunk of lettuce with a piece of chicken unceremoniously slapped on top of salsa. They literally cracked some Old El Paso, scooped it on a single piece of Roman, hummed a chicken on it and said bon apple teeth . I can t stress to you how outraged I am at this nightmare of a dish. Whoever came up with it should be fired. Absolutely shame walked through the city. Everything else was fine. Great drinks, great service, great location. Fever dream food plating. Mind you this was awhile ago and maybe they ve changed. Excited to try it again haha Vegetarian options: Some options yes and they even add tofu to salads! Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating staff, this shouldn t be a problem Parking: It s downtown, whatsamatteryou Kid-friendliness: It s not the vibe, but the restaurant isn t off limits, in my knowledge. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Amazing food, service and decor. Was such a great spot to spend Valentines. Will definitely be back.
The atmosphere is really friendly. The meal, service, and overall encounter. A special thanks to The Palms Restaurant & Lounge for a wonderful evening. Keep serving delectable meals and offering excellent customer service to help your restaurant expand even further.
This is our regular place now to eat out whether it s before the Royals Game or just heading out downtown for the nights. Amazing food, drinks and great prices. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The dinner was very good. Most of the dishes were excellent. Short rib and the lobster lasagna were absolutely first class. However there were two dishes that did not meet expectations. Firstly, the Hawaiian Chicken Salad was mixed. The chicken was good but the avocadoes were not (old). Last but not least, the Tenderloin was overcooked instead of being medium rare. Hope that next time the dinner will be even better.
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful supper together at this Restaurant. Calm, good meals, lovely surroundings.
I come to Victoria just to eat here. The staff treats you like family and the food is outstanding. I wish it was more socially acceptable to wear sweatpants to a restaurant like this so I could leave without undoing my belt. The place was packed and the service was prompt.
What a superb experience. I had the pappadelle chicken. My friend the lobster lasagna, and beet ravioli. Calamari and escargot to start. ALL so delicious. All service top notch from being greeted at the door to our table all very attentive and knowledgeable. The decor and ambience and background music very nice. Our new favorite place.
My daughter took me for a birthday dinner and drinks at Palms restaurant and lounge. Given the reviews, I was expecting a fabulous dining experience with some unique cocktails. I ordered a $22.00 drink called Caribbean Nights, which is a warm drink that comes in a snifter, typically served in a holder, over a tea candle to keep it warm. My drink arrived, cold and placed over a teapot with lukewarm water in it. I mentioned to the server that this is not how the drink should be served and that there is a specific holder they can get to properly serve the drink. She asked if I wanted to return it and I declined, stating I only mentioned it so she could share the information with the bartender for future reference. As we continued our drinks, I noticed a rodent run across the floor. Then another and another. I discreetly mentioned this to the manager, who commented that he was aware of the situation and the rodents were always there. He was quite nonchalant about it and mentioned that they became quite active when there were fewer customers in the restaurant. He commented it was because of the empty building that shared a common wall with the restaurant, that was infested with rodents. My daughter and I did not finish our food after this. All in all, a very disappointing experience. Possibly some health bylaws broken here.
It s a good place but the steak sandwich is ok (needs to have less fat). The restaurant is cold now in January. Food : 2/5
Calamari and guacamole was good! They make great drinks as well
We had a nice dinner, chicken Alfredo, poutine, and halibut risotto. The risotto was a bit bland and halibut was over cooked. We mentioned it to our waiter Joao and he had it remade. Not sure what happened but it was night and day and was delicious. He was also very great, everyone was very professional, nice atmosphere.
The best pecan pie Ive ever had!
Remi the bartender is the greatest, 100% aries energy, love to see it. Drinks were 10/10
Stayed at the Hotel Rialto so popped down during Happy Hour for menu one evening. The duck confit poutine on the happy hour menu had a generous portion of duck! Big portions for the duck wings, salmon tacos, and baos too!! Overall very good value and tasty for their happy hour menu!
The food is exceptionally good here. The Halibut, the seafood bowl mmmmm.
Great service and delcious cocktails in the lounge. Bartender was very friendly and had plenty of off menu drinks available as well.
Booked a reservation last night for a special occasion through Touch Bistro. We were seated right away to a 2 person table. The hostess was very friendly and personable. We were addressed by the server within 5 mins, brought water to us and then approximately 5 minutes later asked us what we would like to drink. Everything is going well, we are very happy and we ordered our meals. Appetizers were spectacular, then our main came. The special was very well presented and my partner said that it was delicious, I ordered the tenderloin and was disappointed with how it was cooked for a medium base more like medium well. All in all it was truly fantastic. Dessert was absolutely magical. The service was not on par though as I believe it sure could have been more attentive. I have to say when observing what the servers are attending in volume of people, they were overloaded in the restaurant and they all were doing the best they could. Over all this restaurant is a go to place.
Great place
Classy place...great food...excellent service
Art Deco - ish ! Reminded me of something out of the 30s. Clean decor, good service, only had appetizers. Business was picking up when we left at 5pm.
Remi is a great bartender. Friendly staff, great service, and awesome atmosphere.
Highly recommend this establishment. Excellent food. Great staff.
One of the best places hands down I had visited in Victoria during my vacation! The service was impeccable, the food was beyond what my taste buds could handle, and the decor was astonishing! I felt welcomed and the service was fast, sweet, and they were able to handle our dietary concerns (no seafood). The drinks are very well made and the flavours were absolutely scrumptious. I highly recommend this place for your next birthday dinner, or fancy date night! Dietary restrictions: No seafood
Last minute decision to go to this restaurant as we were staying in the attached Rialto Hotel. What a very pleasant surprise. We shared the crab fritter to start, one short rib entree and the chicken with pasta entree. All were absolutely delicious! Very generous portions. A tasty bottle of chardonnay from the Hunter Valley. Fair price for a superb meal. Can t wait to come back.
Celebrated our 12 year anniversary there. Our waitress was very helpful, the food was great and the atmosphere was welcoming. I got the stuffed poblano peppers. It was very flavorful and filling with a bit of a spicy kick. Also, got a goddess cocktail. I also recommend the oysters and the deconstructed apple pie.
Great food/service in a beautiful atmosphere! Our only complaint is that they don t have mocktails or non-alcoholic wine options. They have a couple fancy juice options on their drink list but that s it.
Top notch food and service. Will 100% return.
Lovely spot. Great food. Attentive staff. Great happy hour prices.
I love this place! The spaghetti squash is in another level! We were short of time and wanted to eat something before taking the bus to the ferries they brought all our food on a timely manner as well as the drinks! Service was wonderful The next time I come to Victoria, will definitely eat at this place!!
Fantastic atmosphere and the service was top notch.
The food was spectacular and worth the price. We started with a prawn appy that had an unbelievable sauce. For the mains the AAA 9oz steak, and pork and scallops dishes were both outstanding and came with seasonal greens and sauce. We ended with the pecan dessert and again it was delicious. Staff were terrific and attentive to us, and moreover the chef personally came out to ensure we enjoyed our meals. The restsurant itself is beautifully decorated and setup well for groups. 100% going again.
Incredible dining experience! Was very impressed with the rich flavours in the dishes and the portion sizes as well. Will definitely be visiting again when I m back in Victoria.
Bao buns were incredible. Happy hour is a great choice! Delicious cocktails and friendly bartender. Would come again
Great happy hour! The spicy margarita is fantastic!
An inspired, inventive menu, exceptional quality on the plate..Kevin Cooper is a talented and friendly chef.An address not to be missed in Victoria. I recommend the Gulf Islands seafood bowl unforgettable ;) I will be back for sure
Amazing food - all five of us had different mains that were all delicious. Pricing is a good value, including cheaper bottles of wine. Service was great - only complaint was that even though the restaurant was almost empty we were sat next to a very loud adult birthday party. Nice cocktails as well.
Wow, what a happening place, first time there and the place was hopping, the drinks were outstanding, food was excellent, service was top notch. I would highly recommend this restaurant and lounge. I cant wait to go back!
service ,food,table all 5 stars
Awesome little spot, drinks are slightly on the higher priced side but theyre fairly fancy. Had a beer before heading to another spot. Classy folk in there!
Other reviews are accurate when it comes to prompt service, good food, great drink. This place has a nice atmosphere. Hard to find these days. Nice over head music also.
This place has all the right elements, but just didn t follow through for us. Beautiful restaurant, art, fixtures and a menu that sounds good in theory. But in practice, a big no. I got a vegan meal while my partner enjoyed a burger - neither of us liked our dish and our stomachs didn t either. We had high expectations from the reviews and it absolutely did not add up. Pass!
A nice place to visit for some drinks. Plus their everyday happy hour makes the visit worth it. The drinks are super good and service is top notch.
Excellent downtown location. We were spoiled by the staff.
Parking: Parking is always difficult to find downtown victoria, then they changed the meters to 8 pm. Food
I wanted to rave about my experience at The Palms restaurant in the Rialto! I was VERY impressed with the amount of options and quality of vegan dishes!!! They have multiple vegan options, and even dessert!! We ordered vegan dumplings, a DELICIOUS wrap, beet ravioli, and raspberry cheesecake (with VEGAN RICOTTA!!!) SO GOOD!!! They have such cool cocktails with cool names, ours were delicious! There were still two vegan mains we didn t get to try yet!! Such a lovely experience!
Kind and friendly service. Great drinks. Was not very busy, but my visit was not at peak hours.
Absolutely lovely restaurant and staff! My husband booked our 1 year wedding anniversary here and they really went the extra mile to make it special. The head chef even came out and asked how our meals were- which were incredible! So flavourful, and creatively tasty. The drinks were great as well & to top it off, we haven t received food that fast anywhere before. The server was super sweet and attentive as well. Thanks for a lovely evening!
The food was exceptional. The lobster lasagna was a flavourful explosion. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Absolutely beautiful cocktails and food that will delight! I was so impressed I came back twice. Thanks Remi (sp)?
Very refined and well-calibrated cocktails. Elegant environment.
Best steak ever. Have gone 4 times and ordered steak each time. I Will go many more times in the future
Great place for a cocktail before dinner.
Stylish and refined hotel restaurant with friendly service. The hamburger and frites is a must try if you like a gourmet burger. The short rib was beautifully plated but the sauce was way too sweet and the potatoes were a little overcooked. The sauce for the vegan spaghetti squash dish was extremely sour and difficult to eat. We regretted not trying the steak like other reviewers suggested.
Found our dream cuisine at The Palms We celebrated a special birthday dinner with family The steak melted in my mouth! So delicious!! All our meals were perfection. We ll be back to try the wine bar menu and more. Food : 5/5
Probably the best steak I had in my whole life. Highly recommended!!
Was there a few years ago, I think when it first opened. Had the most amazing seafood bowl. My husband had the lobster lasagna. We still talk about it today! Highly recommended!!!!
Amazing dishes. There were so many great things on the menu and the sauces paired with each dish we had were all amazing. Would definitely return on my next visit to Victoria!
Well done Chef Kevin. This was our first time here as we were in town to see Bryan Adams. Weve dined many times in Victoria and decided to give this place a go. Wow. So glad we did. We started with the Halibut & Scallop Ceviche. Amazing textures, citrus and presentation made this dish outstanding. We then ordered the Lobster Lasagna. I know this would be a deconstructed version but had know idea how amazing it would be. We were blown away by the presentation as soon as it hit the table. This dish was absolutely killer. Perfect sear on the scallops. Lobster was poached perfectly. The potato pave was a little taste of heaven. Everything about this dish was 5 star. As we were going to a concert, we didnt want to over eat and be uncomfortable, so we decided on splitting a dessert. What a great decision. The pecan tart was epic. A spin on a classic with elevated flavors and textures. So bloody good. An amazing experience all around. Our server was awesome. Sorry I forgot her name but she was also a Rockstar. The bourbon sours were top notch. Overall an amazing dining experience. Will be back again. Well done by all.
Dont let its location in the Rialto Hotel cause you to believe that this isnt a first class operation, it is. Pricey, but well worth it. Highly recommended.
We came here on a recommendation from a friend. We are locals that dine out frequently and have a couple of Victoria restaurants that we measure our experiences against. This one met up with even our favorite restaurant in the area. We shared the prawn appetizer and the black and blue tenderloin. Sitting at the bar, our extremely friendly bartender/server (Raymi) * apologize for spelling* suggested getting an extra order of bread for the prawns as the sauce was INCREDIBLE! Do it! You do not want any of that going to waste! The steak, veggies and sauce was perfection! Not overshadowed by a bunch of accompaniments and sides. The vibe was relaxed and welcoming. Highly recommend, we will definitely be back.
Great Happy Hour
Service here was attentive and did their best. I elected to have the bouillabaisse special, and was cautioned that it was a bit spicy. My meal was a watery soup of tomatoes and onions, with nearly zero spice. I was dismayed to discover the mussels had not been cleaned - all had long bits of beard which was unpleasant to remove mid-meal. The catfish portion was overcooked and tough. My portion had 3 prawns, 2 of which were decent but 1 was very small and hadnt been cleaned, so I elected not to eat it. My dining companions reported their food was decent but not amazing. When the bill arrived, we discovered we had been overcharged and had to request the bill be corrected. My dinner went unfinished and I am left quite dissatisfied with my $39 entree. I wouldnt return to this restaurant again.
Very nice atmosphere in the evening. very romantic. exceptional staff, they were very friendly and warm and genuinely so nice. the food was excellent. We are vegan and we ordered the ravioli, wrap with fries, the stuffed peppers and cheese cake for dessert all to split and everything was so good 10/10 which i feel is rare to find today. Highly recommend. Very vegan friendly. Vegetarian options: lots of excellent veg options Dietary restrictions: accommodating to vegan and vegetarian diets. great selection of these options of the menu.
My wife and I came here with our toddler. We shared three vegan dishes. The stuffed poblano peppers, the ravioli and the wrap were all 10/10. Really enjoyed the food. Even if you aren t plant based, the dishes we had were top notch. Highly recommend eating here if you re vegan. The atmosphere and the staff were also 10/10. The server and the manager provided exceptional service. The vibe at dinner is super romantic. Enjoy!
Very unique and delicious foods and drinks. Staff was excellent and helpful. Would definitely bring people here for the atmosphere and food. A++
Bright and uplifting with professional service. Worthy of a few drinks for sure but not really a destination spot by my definition.
Amazing happy hour.
My husband and I stumbled upon The Palms by accident and to quote Bob Ross, this was a Happy little accident . I must admit, I avoided this establishment because I was upset when Veneto closed and I now regret it! The atmosphere, service, food and drinks were on point. As busy professionals and parents we dont get out often - thank you for providing us such a great date night experience! Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to offer great suggestions. My steak was cooked to perfection and the flavor profile was incredible. Your cocktails were also awesome and my husband appreciated your beer selection. I wish I got the servers name so I could give her a shout out - Ill grab it next time cause Ill definitely be coming back for date night and family dinners. We had a terrible experience later in the evening when we met up with friends at a different establishment with so thank you for giving us a positive experience to talk about!
The food was extraordinary!! I love the lighting and overall mood of the place.
Nice restaurant setting and really good food. Easy commute
1st time here. Food was very tasty, we ordered a lot to try did not disappoint.
Fantastic atmosphere with a chill vibe and nice decor. Service staff were attentive and polite, and the food was amazing; from appetizer to dessert.
We had some appetizers & drinks in the bar area. Great lounge atmosphere. The jalapeño margarita was the best I have ever had.
Cool room, friendly service
We just had our office party here for about 70 people in the provate room. The staff were friendly and food was great. Calamari, fresh oysters and lots of variety for the gluten free and vegetarian.
Fantastic place for drinks and appetizers! The Prawns Rio was next level and it seems you cannot go wrong in choosing a cocktail - although Day Dream had to have been my favourite. The service was also top notch. Will definitely be returning!
Very good food experience
Had an amazing experience at this restaurant! We were treated like super starts the moment we walked through the door!! The food is delicious with a 5 star presentation as well. I cannot wait to come back to this place! I will not forget this experience!! See you next year!
We had a wonderful time at this restaurant. We couldnt get enough of the jerk duck drumsticks and got us some seconds. Lovely evening ambience with friendly staff. Would love to go back sometime
Such a great atmosphere! Delicious food, great service.
This place has a nice atmosphere. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. The cocktail list is generous enough to find something that you would like. Our party enjoyed all the food that we had ordered.
Went for an early dinner and were very well served. Tried several of the vegan items on the menu, and everything was delicious! Roasted dumplings, spaghetti-squash with seasonal vegetables and veg-stuffed ravioli. The chef was very accommodating, which we really appreciated. The blueberry lemonade and mango-mint soda were very good too. Flavourful blood-orange sorbet to finish off. Vegans will be very happy here.
Great service. Food was tasty. Kitchen closes at midnight which is great when arriving on late flights. Direct access from the Rialto Hotel.
Had a lovely happy hour. They have some great food and cocktail options. The food and drinks were great, as well as the service was 5/5.
Visited on our honeymoon. We started with the delightful veggie dumplings, then I enjoyed the inventive and scrumptious ravioli while my hubby savoured the 10oz ribeye. Cocktails were creative and delicious, service was personable and attentive. We cant wait to come back to enjoy our next meal at the Palms.
Such a great atmosphere and menu! We went for a girls night out, and were impressed with the selection, the service, the food, it was all excellent. We will be back and we will bring our hubbies!
The service was great - attentive but not too attentive. The food was excellent! The salads are huge so best to share or eat as the main course. Highly recommend this restaurant and, if you re staying at the Rialto Hotel, it s right downstairs!
This is a cool place to have cocktails and maybe a few appies. Busy after work. But bright. Modern. Great bartender. Highly recommend.
After an unfortunate one off experience, ownership and management went out of their way to provide a stellar night at the Palms! Food was delicious, service was fast, friendly, and on point. Great place for a nice dinner in Downtown Victoria with a unique and expansive drink menu and a great eating environment. Thanks and will be back!
Good time
Excellent service..out of their way to accommodate a food allergy.. and to please help the client have a stellar dining experience. Thank you
Went for a cocktail and it didnt disappoint. It was a delicious pineapple and run concoction. Yum
By chance we met some friends for dinner here and we were not disappointed. Definitely the most creative, tasty and affordable drink/cocktail menu and the food is absolutely to die for. Congrats to the head chef and manager. Both the restaurant and bar are solid. Try the duck wings!
Had a drink and dinner at the bar. Bartender was great! Lets of friendly folks and what seem to be regulars. Overall a great vibe. Ill be back!
The Palms is sadly lacking the classy and chic lounge vibe that Veneto effortlessly created. Instead, The Palms, has the feel of a dingy hotel restaurant where customers are dining out of convenience. When we arrived, the restaurant had no record of our reservation that we had made a couple days prior. No compensation, but they did accomodate our large group quickly. The cocktails were a disappointment. The extra spicy Caesar I ordered had barely any heat, one of the lavender & gin cocktails tasted like soap, and the mango lemonade was off balance and not bubbly enough. Thankfully, the whisky sour was redeemable. As far as the food, the truffle fries were decent, but came with a spicy mayo that didnt seem to match. The dumplings, were tasty, buy dry and served with greens and a sticky sauce....The Bao buns and salmon tacos were delicious, but awkward, difficult and messy. As a main, I ordered the Road to Hana, the plating was odd and trying too hard to be creative. The dish itself was decent, but lacking punch and character. As far as dessert, the shaft Creme Brule was lovely, however the Negroni cheesecake was bitter and the only edible part was the crust. Overall the service was decent, nothing spectacular and nothing horrible.
What a wonderful meal! Didnt want to take the kids out so we got take out from here and something they wanted up the street and it was so worth it. My wife was in heaven with the Halibut she said it was the best ever!
waiting so long. They said 15 mins I wait for 30 mins and still not getting it.
If I could give Zero stars, I would. The service staff was horrible in this bar. You could tell the service staff were very unhappy to be there. they werent helpful when asked questions about the menu or drink recommendations. We asked about food recommendations and our waitress just replied Google it, I have a lot of other stuff to do., The bar had very mediocre cocktails given the price they charge. Save your time and money. Everyone would be better off to go somewhere else.
Best steak Ive ever had in BC
Cozy restaurant for dinner, varied menu and good drinks. The service was always attentive and friendly.
It was overall ok the drinks are not super innovative and the food is ok and isnt super flavored and nothing super special of then just another hotel restaurant. Feel the cocktails could be more tropical or local ingredients to spruce up the types of drinks you can get.
Awesome atmosphere and service. Food was Delicious. Highly recommended.
Lovely ambiance, great personable service and fun desserts! Wish they have a designated 0 proof drinks though. For a cocktail bar nowadays I feel like its a must to have it. So many people dont drink alcohol and still want to have cool drinks too!! Definitely would come back
Adorable little bar with beautiful, tasteful cocktails!! I highly recommend!!
Outstanding restaurant! Food is definitely inspired as they (rightfully) proudly announce. Absolutely delicious! Service is very attentive, professional and friendly. Creative cocktails too! Will definitely go back .often!
Delicious food, great service and tasty drinks. We will be back!
Went downstairs for a happy drink. Asked if it was happy hour (it was) and ordered a happy hour beer. Get beer. Drink beer. Get charged for full priced beer. I say I ordered happy hour beer. Server says that s for a glass and blames the new bartender. No offer to correct an error. Happy to bait customers into paying more. Too bad because I m here for a week on business and the downstairs bar is convenient. I expect this behaviour from a tourist trap. Maybe that s what the palms is?
Excellent!!! We read the reviews and walked right in to friendly staff. The prawn appetizer was stellar as was the spinach salad, halibut and pork cheek/scallops Too stuffed for dessert!!! We re from Manhattan NY and tough reviewers :)
A great place for cocktails! I had the Empress 75 and it was delicious without being too sweet! I ate the Best Ravioli (not pictured) and it was so good. For dessert I had the pecan pie, and it was really tasty but hard to eat with a spoon; ask your server for a fork :)
Ordered the Beef Short Ribs. It was a hunk of slow-cooked roast, probably inner round or something, in a sickly-sweet pan sauce. Generally speaking if I order short ribs, I expect short ribs. Fingerling potatoes were ok. The server was super polite and professional.
To All the crew at The Palms, thank you for always looking after us with such charm and grace. Being new to the city The Palms has become our home base in part because of the elevated quality of the vegan offerings and mostly because of the atmosphere that you have created. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
The food was great - and the menu was great with some intriguing options. The service was decent enough and very friendly - however there were very long gaps between visits and was unable to get servers attention as a lack of eye contact made it hard (not that its the customers responsibility to get the wait staffs attention). Our server brought us dessert menus but never came back to check to see if we actually wanted dessert. We finally had to grab another server to get our bill. The place wasnt packed so I think a slight tweak to the service would make this place fantastic. I would come back though and look forward to changing my review as the place has great potential.
Excellent rest. and lounge on this epic Hotel. Friendly hostess and barman.
Meh. Service was just okay and the same for the food. Very cool look to the lounge. If you re just up for drinks and in no rush, it s not bad.
Went in there for a quick martini with the wife, great drinks, service and atmosphere. I will be coming again :)
Wonderful food, wine, and people.
We came her on a Tuesday evening for dinner, celebrating our anniversary. Another couple was enjoying dinner while trying to entertain their two small children - I always appreciate a restaurant that manages to make kids welcome while still providing a wonderful experience for couples. The drink menu was fun and inventive - and delicious! The Rialto Bellini is made with mango instead of the usual peach. My husbands Old Smoky was complex and well crafted. Our dinners were as interesting as the drinks. We started with duck wings which were crispy and spiced perfectly. My husbands blackened Pacific salmon tacos were spicy and just couldve used another tortilla to contain all the filling! Not surprisingly, the lobster lasagna I ordered won the chef 2nd place in a Canada-wide top chef contest, and it didnt disappoint - richly flavored, I wanted a spoon to get every drop of the sauce. Our server was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, giving us good advice about the menu and drinks. Well be back!
Great service, great Tapas. Waitress really knew her stuff. I would highly recommend.
A simply marvelous experience. Some Seattle friends are here to see Nancy Wilson and after the concert, we stopped in for food and drinks. Server Carla is an absolute delight. She provided perfect suggestions and connected well with everyone.amager Rob visited several times and is extremely personable. The food? Phenomenal. The drinks? Fantastic. The perfect after concert experience.
Outstanding Restaurant! One of the best meals we ve experienced ever; thanks Chef Kevin! 8 of us enjoyed an incredible evening of food and cocktails. A must when you re in Victoria!
Had a wonderful time!! Great food we had a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend
Delicious food with lots of options for those with dietary restrictions. Gorgeous and chic, but laid-back atmosphere. Delightful staff!
Great place to go for a casual dinner with friends or date night - fun and relaxing atmosphere that definitely does give you some vacation vibes. The service is also friendly and personable, which makes the experience even more positive. I really appreciate that there are multiple vegan options available that are definitely more creative than the standard salad or bowl that you see offered in most places. Weve tried most of them and they have all been very good! Nothing stands out as truly mind blowing, but the variety makes up for that.
We came here for dinner as part of our honeymoon. What a fantastic restaurant. Our server, Carla, was amazing. She recommended some beautiful wines and was so helpful. The food was amazing - genuinely one of the best meals I have had in my life. The cocktails were also stellar! If you re in Victoria, make sure you stop by!
We went for dinner for family four. The restaurant has very nice decor and the service was great. The food was great for a hotel restaurant. The price was Ok but on slightly higher side for a fine dining hotel restaurant.
We had a wonderful night at The Palms. Quite and elegant space with beautiful dark purple lighting. Great place to have a late night drink.
One of the nicest restaurants! Beautiful ambiance, friendly staff, and my food was incredible! I had the plant based beet ravioli. It was the best vegan dish I ve had! It had so many beautifully blended flavours, it was creamy, filling, and satisfying. I also had dumplings for an appetizer and they did a really job cooking them. I paired my meal with the Summerhill sovereign opal and it tasted lovely. I ended the dinner with the blood orange sorbetto and it was sweet and creamy. My mom had the spaghetti squash and said it was really good and my step dad inhaled the burger it was so good. This place is a great place for vegans and non vegans.
Amazing Food and Amazing service!
Cocktails were delicious and the vegan dumplings were so good. Even though the atmosphere is pretty swanky, we didnt feel judged for going in in jeans and trainers.
We had excellent service! Our server was extremely attentive, polite and professional. Best service I ve had in a while. The Halibut was delicious and I really liked the decor and ambiance. Would definitely recommend going here!
Excellent drinks and the vegan ravioli is a must-try! Only disappointment was the vegan dumplings the dumpling wrapper was very thick and dry.
Calamari was good but the drinks were not good, the short rib was underwhelming and the potatoes were black burnt. The sauces tasted the same on the very small steak sandwich and short ribs. Definitely not worth the money.
This was our second time to The Palms in as many months. Great food (tonight was the beet ravioli) and a really cool vibe. The decor and ambiance are fantastic. Will be back!
Good food, drinks and vibe.
We had our company dinner tonight at least 20 people. We all got our food together, hats off to all the staff . The chef is awesome
