Chinese restaurant
Awesome find! The staff was really kind and service was great. The food was very good, especially the meat platter and congee. They were out of some vegetarian dishes but offered to prepare a tofu dish that was not on the menu instead, which was extremely kind of the staff, and delicious!
The most authentic Chinese cuisine in Victoria👍🏻 I’m not kidding, it’s very good! I highly recommend the sliced pork with garlic sauce 蒜泥白肉!!
We were so pleased to have found this place! The food was delicious, service (by the staff) was top notch and we had the pleasure of chatting with the head chef and explaining her process of preparing the dishes that we ordered. We had and highly recommend the sweet and sour pork, marinated pork belly fried rice and fried minced pork and crabmeat buns! The rose petal tea complemented the food well. The chef is also a cat lover so this is a plus for us!
Really authentic Chinese food!! If you don’t care about that, the restaurant will truly impress you too with the quality food and healthy way of cooking. Real ingredients, tasty cooking, nice decor, friendly staff, and clean washroom!!
This is my second time here, and it continues to be the best Chinese food I’ve had in Victoria. Last time I was here, our server was kind to let us know that everything is prepared and made fresh. My aunt was coming to town from Vancouver so I thought I’d make a reservation and book ahead (5 people); when we arrived, we were impressed by how fast everything came. The crabs (which require advanced booking) were absolutely delicious, it was spicy without taking away from the flavours; the stir fried rice noodles with beef were beautifully cooked and the noodles were very bouncy and flavourful; the Hainanese chicken tasted very authentic with the natural aroma of chicken; and the vegetables (Shanghai Bok Choy) bring everything together with its refreshing crunch. On top of the amazing atmosphere, our server was also very helpful and friendly; making our experience here pleasant. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Chinese food with good service and atmosphere.
Lawrence the server was very helpful and explained the menu clearly. Free seaweed soup and wontons as a starter are a pleasant surprise. We were expecting a long wait as all food was cooked from scratch but the steaming deliciousness was served very quickly. We ordered far too much as we didn't realise such generous portions. The pork belly, steamed buns and brisket noodle soup are perfectly seasoned. Very pleasant piano music and overall a great meal, highly recommended.
Lovely find, came Thursday evening without a reservation and managed to get a table for 2. Lovely atmosphere, tastefully decorated. Given complimentary seaweed soup and wantons (nice surprise) while we waited for our dishes, which were all freshly prepared. Laurenc our server was efficient, helpful and friendly , and very attentive. Would definitely recommend 👌🏾
They serve nostalgic Chinese cuisine that is yummy! Love their culinary! I hv no ideas on how much each person spends as my friends pay for me! Recommend the egg plant & the marinade!
Very tasty and comforting food! There is a lot of heart and intention put into the food and service. The staff were also very accommodating when we had to switch to a last minute to-go order. Would love to go back and eat in-person at the restaurant!
The food is not the best. We got the shredded chicken rice, and it felt like something that can be made at home. The chicken is not shredded, so it s not authentic. Overall, the atmosphere is amazing. A bit pricey for sure.
Excellent authentic Chinese food. Great service, lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend the pork belly, and the congee. What a fantastic dinner we had. Thank you for the delicious meal!!!
The beef brisket noodle soup was pretty good - it costed $25 CAD. However, the boiled fish dish was disgusting. I ordered it under the impression that it was the chinese style plate where it s a whole fish cooked with ginger and scallions with a light fragrant sauce. I was wrong. Pictures on the menu would help.
Today I dined at March and ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork, Pickled Fish, and Beef Noodles. The flavors were incredibly authentic its been almost a decade since Ive tasted food this genuine. The restaurant offers an upscale and elegant atmosphere, and I have never experienced such authentic Chinese cuisine in North America. Even after visiting places like Richmond and New York, nothing compares to the quality and authenticity of the dishes here. Highly recommend for anyone craving true Chinese flavors!
Super nicely decorated restaurant. The food is amazing!
I came to Victoria and discovered this unique authentic Cantonese cuisine, which tastes very good. The steamed pork ribs with black bean sauce is even better than that made in big restaurants. It is tender, smooth and delicious. The store is also very uniquely decorated.
Excellent Chinese food! The additional special spicy sauce really reminds of the days I studied in China!
The lady was very nice. Good service. Well done. Food was amazing and definitely worth trying. Will come again soon Vegetarian options: Stir fired vegetables with mushroom
Nice vibe with good music. Service was great. Free soup and free dessert were surprisingly good. Good restaurant for dinner.
Waited for a seat only to have them give it to someone who came in after us. Will not return. Watch out for the fake reviews. True tell sign is when someone leaves a bad review and then several new reviews show up right after in the middle of the night. Review rating is more important than actual customer satisfaction Edit to response Yes correct we said ok and we would wait for the table and would be just outside the door. We never left any further than outside the door to review the menu so we could be ready to order when the table became avaiable.
This place is amazing the atmosphere is to die for a food is delicious!!!!!
Service was terrible. Now i read your comments. I don t want to continue to speak about that but i just want to correct the time. Ian wrote we went there at 11:30 but it wasn t. He got confused about the time and wrote 11:30 instead of 12:30. We were there at 12:20 and your staff opened 12:30. The time was not correct. And we waited chef until 1pm.
Delicious private dishes cooked with care, delicious and not expensive...
Omg this place is sooo good. My family of 6 came here at the last stop of our 7 day cruise after several days of buffets, we were craving some authentic Chinese food. Everything was delicious and I loved the homey feel of this restaurant.
We ordered stir fried vegetables but we got this cabbage dish.
Fresh to order, clean food made with love. Bohemian artsy vibe, bright but intimate.
Thank you! Top tier service, food, atmosphere and especially the hospitality couldnt feel more homey. The soup and food was prepared as authentic as possibly be, brought a full grown man back to his childhood.
The food was fantastic! The menu took us a while to grasp since allot of the dishes we were not familiar with. After we ordered everything came out cooked to order. It was obvious that this was a special Chinese chef cooking this amazing food. We order beef with rice noodles, egg plant in garlic sauce, sweet and sour pork, pork bun, pork belly with rice and an egg on top. Everything came hot and fresh. Its small and a little hard to find. Glad we found it. Only been open a year. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend. Just dont be in a rush.
What a joke. I visited this restaurant at their then stated opening hour of 11:30 AM. The chef had not arrived, but we were willing to wait. The waiter was friendly and hospitable, which was probably the only positive aspect of our visit. Since I was with my family, we decided to stay and ordered our meal. However, after waiting for over half an hour, the chef still had not arrived. During our wait, we were served some hot tea. As I was accompanying my parents-in-law and my young son, we couldn t wait any longer and decided to move to the Japanese restaurant across the street. As we were leaving, the owner (a very mean-looking Chinese lady) saw us entering the other restaurant and sent her waiter to chase me down and demand payment for the tea, without even offering an apology for the delay. I was shocked by their lack of customer service and basic courtesy. Perhaps such a practice (chasing down a customer to another restaurant) is accepted in China? I can t speak to the quality of the food, but based on this experience, these people should not be running a business, let alone a restaurant.
Probably the best Cantonese Restaurant in Victoria, impressed. Please do note that the food can take a bit of time as they do seem to make their food fresh to order. Will come again to support. Food
Terrible, no other way to put it. There was a group of 4 of us there for lunch. Two of us had noodle dishes while the rest of us had a spicy chicken dish. I was told that there were no bones and nearly cracked a tooth on the first bite as the chicken was a gristly leg piece that was cleaved in the kitchen. So there were many, many bones. Couple that with the fact my friends plate had almost no spice while mine was nearly black from the overuse of spice. Both were inedible. The two noodle dishes came out nearly 30 minutes before our chicken did. No paper towels or soap in the bathroom. We were there on a very busy, pleasant Saturday afternoon and there were zero other customers there should tell you all you need to know. Hands down the worst Chinese food Ive ever had.
Fantastic little spot in a tucked away location in the heart of Downtown. The food tastes and feels so comforting like a home cooked meal. It can take some time to come out as theres only one chef working in the kitchen but its a quiet spot and its relaxing.
Thank you for an amazing meal! Portion sizes were huge, everything tasted authentic and delicious. It gave my family a slice of home when they were visiting me here in Victoria. Possibly the best Chinese cuisine in Victoria! Thanks again
Tiny spot around the corner, honestly didn t have much expectation but wow was I surprised! Really delicious and simple homemade dishes. Definitely recommend.
Incredible atmosphere, great service, and beautifully authentic Cantonese food! Really excited to go back and try other dishes!
I loved every details of my experience there. They even offered us soup and boardgames while we were waiting for our to go meals. A wonderful and authentic Cantonese cuisine.
The boss treats customers with enthusiasm and sincerity. The king crabs he serves are fresh, authentic and delicious. His superb cooking skills can be rated as Five Stars
Family owned restaurant, best and most authentic chinese food i have ever tasted after 2 yeas in north america. Understandable bit slow service since bit understaffed, but this is what made the food so good, they put their heart into it. Owner is the sweetest person. Highly recommend!
Not recommended for dining. Overpriced, poor taste, small portions.
Possibly one of my biggest let downs for a new restaurant in Victoria. To begin I must have called over six times to try and reserve a table over several days and not once did they pick up. Eventually we decided to just go and see if we could get a spot. After arriving the person at the front counter literally ran away for upwards of 2-3 minutes instead of greeting us. After we were seated we quickly order and waited, a very long time for food to come out. While we waited a family was soon seated near us and we watched every single menu item they order come before ours. When our food did arrive it was only one item and while delicious, it would not be another 15 minutes before the next menu item we ordered came. Over all the food was great, and although highly priced, was not worth the wait as many have claimed on here. Our experience seems to have soured the quality of the food and I cannot recommend this place in its current state.
The food so good and service good
Very tasty and authentic Chinese food. Beautifully renovated. Went twice in a row and both were very good. Server was very helpful but could use more experience :-) Anyone who likes chinese food should give it a try Food : 5/5 |
I passed by this newly opened restaurant and felt that the environment was good, so I went in to order. The atmosphere and dishes of this restaurant are both delicious. The rose chicken is smooth but not greasy, very unique, the service is also very warm, and it is a restaurant with great flavor.
A restaurant with great taste, especially when you enter, you can smell the fragrance of lilies! Seafood Fried Rice is very delicious! Asparagus is fresh! Come back again next time!
I stumbled into March restaurant when I was downtown looking for an eatery near Wharf St. I am so glad I found it, because this is one of the very best Chinese restaurants I have been to in Victoria. Chinese food in Victoria tends to be more than a bit generic, or else sweet and simple, perhaps catering to perceived Canadian tastes. But March restaurant is anything but generic or bland. The food tastes as if prepared in somebody s home kitchen somebody who really likes to cook. We had four dishes: the soy sauce roasted chicken, seafood fried rice in a pot (the roasted chicken came on top), buns/fried dumplings with green onion, and spicy boiled fish. The buns were simply delicious, and so was the seafood fried rice (it does also contain some pork). The roasted chicken was also very tasty, roasted perfectly with a deep but not overpowering soy sauce dressing. Not all of my party found the spicy fish to their liking (it comes in a fiery red pepper sauce), but I loved it. The spicy fish is prepared with a unique Chinese peppercorn with a very floral taste; it is quite spicy. The restaurant owner, Calista, whom we met after our meal, is lovely, as was our nice server, Lawrence. The restaurant is so new that they don t yet have a printed menu, but your server can help you decide what to order. There were only a few dishes on the menu, but everything was worth trying. I recommend that the restaurant consider adding more vegetable dishes to its offerings maybe some gai lan, asparagus, or green beans? Overall, this meal was a delightful culinary experience, and the pretty table settings make guests feel welcome. In my opinion, March is a new restaurant not to be missed.
The food is exquisite and tastes good. The service is friendly and the environment is elegant. The store is in a quiet location and is surrounded by a pedestrian street. The dishes are a little salty. Customers with a weak taste can tell the boss about the lack of salt. P.S. The boss is so beautiful. I was surprised when I came out of the kitchen to say hello. Shy ing
What a great experience! Fantastic place.
Amazing food with great ambiance. An unexpected hidden gem in downtown. We began with a platter of assorted marinated meat and it was a great start. The owner recommended a few dishes (pork buns and more) and they were exceptionally good. Perfect accompaniments to white rice.
Came while on vacation in Victoria and was delighted to find such a wonderful little restaurant! The food was very authentic (better than our experiences in Victoria s Chinatown) and felt like our dinner was made in a home kitchen. Everyone was very friendly and this was a great place to end off our trip in Victoria. Service was a bit slow, but overall, food was very excellent.
Fried rice, noodle soup delicious. I would recommend this place Food
It s really super delicious! Everything is made on site and the beef stew is super bad. 55555 is a kind and conscientious boss who knows how to cook! The spicy and sour lotus root slices are a little spicy but really delicious. The more you eat, the more you taste. The service attitude is super good and they will introduce the dishes carefully. I love it
The boss is super attentive, the restaurant atmosphere is very good, and every dish is flawless. Highly recommended! ! !
This restaurant is really amazing, and the waiters are also super enthusiastic. I finally had Chinese food when I came to Canada
A private chef Chinese restaurant with unique tastes
Good food , restaurant is cleaned We had fried rice and noodle soup it was so good. They re opened til 10:30 pm Most restaurants in downtown were closed by 8:00pm
I came to this restaurant for the first time tonight. The environment here is comfortable, the interior decoration is exquisite and there are some interesting objects. As the boss said, this place is like a late night canteen, quiet and comfortable where you can enjoy delicious food slowly . The boss is very nice and enthusiastic. I ordered a braised pork rice (claypot rice), which exceeded my expectations. The food was very delicious, the meat was fat but not greasy, and it was full of flavor. It s so delicious! ! I have already thought about what to eat next time I come here. I highly recommend it to everyone! !
Excellent traditional Cantonese food
The claypot rice with spareribs is particularly delicious. It reminds me of the taste of my childhood. The claypot rice with beef is also delicious. The beef is very tender. Highly recommended.
I had a great late night dinner at March. The lady and I had the braised pork belly, seafood fried rice, and a Chinese cucumber salad. There was tons of meat in the pork belly dish. The fried rice had hints of turmeric with a good amount of creatures from the sea. The flavors of the salad was very foreign to me at first, but as I continued to eat it, I became a fan. The lady suggested that there was sea cucumber in the salad, was she right? The service was friendly and the chef brought out the dishes. Im glad we found this place while visiting from the states.
Excellent authentic Chinese food!! Super welcoming owner who helped accommodate our needs
One of the towns finest restaurants! After savoring the four dishes, its evident that the chef/owner pours heart and passion into every creation. The entire menu is a must-try! Well definitely return with a larger group to sample even more delectable dishes together.
The fried buns are very delicious, recommended!
Nice set up with unique decorations, friendly services, lot of tasty dishes and reasonable prices.
Awesome! All the foods we order are quite tasty, wonderful experience
Very delicious!
My family really appreciated the vegan options offered here. We had veggie fried rice, stuffed mushrooms, sweet and sour tofu pork , amongst other dishes, and all were prepared with great care. The servers were friendly, and the restaurant is kept very clean. The space is beautifully decorated with the owner s vibrant artwork. Would highly recommend this restaurant for those looking for a fun and quality Chinese cuisine experience in Victoria.
The style of private kitchen cuisine is rare and very good!
Dishes are all amazing!!
Coming from Hong Kong. Best cantonese cuisine in town so far. Excellent service, and excellent interior decoration. Highly recommended
Had a great time at this restaurant! The food was awesome, and the decor was pretty cool. Loved the soy sauce chicken it s a must-try. Will definitely be back for more :)
Ate soy sauce chicken, beef fried rice noodle and lotus root ribs. All were tasty and authentic, cooked with heart. I must come again
Would highly recommend this place!
It was a fantastic experience through and through. We loved every dish we ordered. Particularly blown away by the fried buns. The staff were incredibly helpful and made sure we ordered ahead of time since we had a bigger group with us. We spent no time waiting for our dishes as we only showed up on when they suggested. I will be sure to come by every single time I am in Victoria again.
Very delicious and authentic Cantonese food! Definitely the best and most authentic Chinese food in the city. And the owner is so nice. I went with my girlfriend and her family from Canton and they loved it.
Delicious with reasonable prices!
Delicious food, carefully prepared by the chef, and the tea cups are beautiful.
Great food, nice place.
The food is delicious, the environment is very clean and comfortable, and the service attitude is also very good.
Very nice Chinese food, if you are looking for a nice place for dating or gather with friends. Strongly recommend. Friendly reminder this is not a fast grab and go place. It is a fine dining restaurant . Good food does take time!
I like to eat boiled chicken the most. Just by looking at the way the chicken is cut, I know it will be delicious.
We will definitely be back!!
We had really great time here. The food was amazing. Although it comes out slowly compared to other restaurants, it definitely worth the wait. Decoration and ambience is so pretty and we enjoyed this unexpectedly good dinner. Thank you!
Great atmosphere, amazing food. Went with a few buddies
Dishes taste okay, but the portions were quite small in relative to 28-19 bucks pre-tax per dish.
I loved everything about it
We spoke on the phone tonight, you called me asking if I was okay having a diet coke instead of a regular one based on my Uber eats order. Well we had to eventually cancel the order because you never actually made it. Big waste of time and money.
The buns are bussin, just wish they came with a sauce!
the service was outstanding, will be back!
Braised dishes are delicious
The best private kitchen in Victoria, it definitely tastes like home, the service and environment are very good Remember to reserve the dishes you want to eat in advance, the first choice place for gatherings!
