Amazing traditional Chinese cuisines and also special Szechuan style dishes.
Great food, the Spicy Ginger Beef was delish. We will go back the next time we're back in the area.
So sad how about the ginger beef because it had good reviews, but unfortunately, it is so sweet and just in a brown sauce that has barely any ginger or spice no peppers or onions either But what’s really annoying is the sweet lingering flavour without the ginger so sugary I really like it to be spicy and sweet and it’s just not:(
Used to love this place. Been craving Orange beef for weeks now and happened to be in the area today. Ordered Orange beef and sweet and sour pork nothing like it used to be corners cut, no veggies in either like before and no flavour any more. The last time I was there was maybe 3 or 4 years ago and their Orange beef was as hot cold as it was when it hit the table now meh. Must be new owners. Sorry to say I won’t be back.
I usually prefer other regions beside Szechuan when it comes to Chinese food, but this little place changed my mind! We got a lunch special and everything from the presentation to the flavors were outstanding. A must try restaurant that is a little bit out of the way, but worth a visit.
Dinner for two plus a side of dumplings isn't enough to feed one person. I do not have that large of an appetite in case you are wondering. I paid $54 and I'm not even close to being full. What a ripoff. I think the reviews for this restaurant are gamed.
We have a dinner party here on the weekend. It was my first time to eat in this restaurant, and I actually tasted what I expected. It is located next to the church and is not in a tourist area. We made a reservation with the boss for processed seafood and ordered a menu that was unexpected. Special vegetable dishes, I like the taste of this restaurant very much, recommend it to everyone to try it
I recently ate at Szechuan Exotic Chinese Cuisine and had a lovely experience from start to finish. I had initially ordered the Salt and Pepper Chicken, but due to a slight miscommunication (thanks to my mask), I received the Salt and Pepper Squid instead. We called to let them know and they prepared the chicken for us, completely free of charge! They even included some spring rolls which were delicious. I would also like to add that everything was wrapped up very nicely :) Thank you to everyone who works here - you are very sweet and I will be returning!
Some of the best food I've had. Definitely the best Garlic Pork!! Delivery took a bit but worth it. I'm from out of town so it's always tough to make a choice on where to eat and this place didn't disappoint
Although the wrong meal was delivered, the grilled fish was really delicious! Remember to book in advance
Food was bland, one of the dishes I ordered had a small amount of very watered down sauce. Won t order from them again. Food
Update July 2024 warning new owners! Ive been coming here (or ordering in) monthly since the 80s and its always been perfect and unchanged. So I chose this for my birthday dinner with another fan on June 29th. Evidently theyve sold and the new owner didnt buy the recipes, so they changed the name to Szechuan Province and replaced the five-star recipes with three star ones. Their unique and flavourful crispy ginger beef was missing the ginger, the shredded carrot, and the zing. The lemon chicken had no lemon flavour at all, and the chicken had been precooked and then breaded and deep fried so it was dry and tough, inedible IMO. RIP tender delicious lemon chicken . The boneless pork was 100% flavorless, even missing salt. The only good thing was the fried rice, I forget which one... Unfortunately we thought wed eat in (always better fresh) but two tables had just been sat, so instead of telling us thered be a wait, (which we would have been fine with) they proceeded to serve every table one dish every 5 minutes, with the fried rice last, so it wasnt enjoyable. The new milk tea was delicious though. I found it inedible and didnt want to take leftovers home but my friend paid $80+ for it so I was trying not to complain.. much lol. I ended up giving my leftovers away to my friend who said it wasnt terrible, just on par with the other Cantonese restaurants in town so I gave it a 3, but compared to beforehand I would give it a 1! This week we got our Szechuan craving again and thought wed give it a second chance, I assumed maybe they had a new cook or the regular cook was sick, and after 35+ years this being the only bad experience, I was totally willing to cut them slack. But I read through the reviews and saw that other people are also having the same experience, and that there might be new owners with new recipes that were so bad that I wont go back. I had to resort to going through all the reviews on Google, and luckily there was a place called Panda something on Oak Bay Avenue getting 4.6 stars so we went there instead, and it was light and fresh and delicious and flavorful so it is officially our new favorite place! Pre 2024 (rating 4.5) Ah-may-zing!! Famous for their crispy Ginger Beef, this is the best best ginger beef in North America hands down, tender and meaty with minimal flour, deep fried and tossed in a delicious spicy ginger dark sauce. Once I was trying to order new things and not order it and I cheekily asked the guy on the phone ah does anyone not order the crispy Ginger beef? And he said very dryly no everybody they order the ginger beef LOL. Also the lemon chicken is the most tender chunks of chicken youve ever had in your life! And the dry garlic pork, not ribs, is a large serving of lean crispy pork, those three are my trifecta! With rice $50 and its enough for 3-4 people.
Ordered large order almost 90$ with tax. Chicken fried rice, beef broccoli, almond chicken, ginger beef sorry to say quality of food except the rice was horrible almond chicken was greasy like there deep frier was not hot enough bite into it and grease comes pouring out ginger beef was horrible to no ginger to speak of and packed full of sugar and msg I used to love the food now not so much small portions as well. Im not going to order anything from Szechuan restaurant anymore.....
Food was good, Service was great, atmosphere was aight.
The Chinese restaurant next to the ice hockey stadium is not big, but it is very clean. The pineapple and shrimp balls are crispy and delicious! The portion of bean sprouts in soup is huge! It s hard to imagine that Victoria also has delicious Chinese food, beyond expectations
Pre-cooked food is served hot. The food tastes terrible. The crumbly rice is served cold. No tip-worthy service is provided to guests. I will never go back to bad food again.
This is the one of the best restaurants I never had.
The new grilled fish is delicious and worth a try. Compared to the same grilled fish in Vancouver, it costs at least 70
absolutely phenomenal food and service, hands down the best Chinese food that Ive ever eaten.. and thats saying a lot haha. if youre looking for a place to eat this it! Ill be looking forward to coming back when Im in the area again
Excellent food and service. So glad we came here. Very clean environment and every dish was tasty.
Love this place! Delicious food :)
The rice and chicken are bland, no flavour
Awesome food, everything was delicious and everyone was friendly.
The newly launched grilled fish tastes delicious and very authentic.
There must be new owners here the ginger beef USED to be the best in town. Now its not close to the same taste and texture. If your going to buy a new restaurant that was the best in town then KEEP Dishes THE SAME WAY THEY MADE IT. BAD DECISIONS.
I had food from this place at a friends house and was very happy about it. So went with some family to the restaurant which we were the only table but they were doing a lot of takeout. So far this is the best Chinese Szechuan restaurant I ve had in Victoria. The owners were very friendly and nice people and everything was very efficient and clean. Definitely will be going back soon.
We eat here a lot because the food is fantastic and the service is good, the staff friendly. We also have it delivered fairly often! Weve tried many dishes and none have disappointed.
I have been dining at this restaurant for close to 10years. Have had several home deliveries. I have always found the food to be excellent. The staff are always friendly and courteous.. Service at times can be slow but the food is well worth the wait. Have taken many people there as my guests and no complaint at all. Prices are in line with other restaurants and portions are generous.
The food is delicious. My family has been ordering food from this restaurant for many years and we have never been disappointed. I highly recommend the spicy ginger beef!
Best food loved it cause so much sauce now less sauce. Been going here for years. The menu is astonishing like who orders so much exotic foods. We only stick to our faves. Quality controll and expense of certain items will increase profits. Need Gordon Ramsey there asap.
Two words: szechuan wonton!!! Holy moly, sooooooo great! Food
Simply the weirdest breading and texture of sweat and sour pork to ever exist. Like slimey bubble gum.
The Best Szechan for more than 30 years of my life. Soo consistent.... Fresh and yummy!
The ginger beef this the best
This is a funny, hole in the wall, of a place in a most unlikely location that produces perfectly adequate Chinese food.
1. Expectation was high: a bit disappointed 2. Should focus more on improvement of taste and types of sauce used/available. 3. Recommendation: if you are looking for Indo-chinese variety of food like chowmein etc, then probably not fit. 4. Surely the staffs are nice
Went late lunch, and it was terrific. They were able to serve food that doesnt have MSG in it.
After decades of dine in and take out at this restaurant I was surprised to see it under new management. Sad to say goodbye to this old favourite though the new staff were very friendly, some of the food we tasted and just discarded. Can t drop $60 on a dinner for 2 that we don t eat.
Crazy good food
Beef Brisket noodles is the best
I ordered a few times but they didnt provide any cutlery. I called and said that was it.
Delicious food, variety and good price.
Good 90s style Chinese canadian
they sent the food without cutlery and the food was very ugly
I only ordered one dish, but it was ready right on time. The dish, laziji, was the best one Ive had yet, from any restaurant, anywhere. The chicken is coated in a crispy medium-thin batter, cooked perfectly, still very juicy, not dry at all. The seasoning was great, plenty of Sichuan peppercorns and chili, also cooked to perfection. Many places end up with some burnt chilis, but these were fried perfectly and great for eating. Also, be sure to try the in-house-made chili oil. It is very tasty and rich. Will be ordering this item again the next time I visit Victoria.
Friendly staff, welcoming esthetics and mouth watering traditional food. I had a traditional rice dish called Claypot Rice or . Best on the island! 10/10 would recommend !!!
Food was delicious!
Good food, service is friendly but can be slow, although i was there in a group at lunch so possibly just unexpected. Would recommend.
Mediocre at best. Beef & Tomato Fried Rice: Wet rice, tomato and a minuscule amount of beef. I have no idea how they can call it a Fried rice. Szechuan Chilly Chicken: Just veggies and maybe a couple chicken pieces sprinkled on it.
The food is surprisingly good. We don t have many good Chinese restaurants on the island but I would say this one has passed my expectations. Not to mention, the restaurant is super clean compared to some Chinese restaurants I ve been to.
Overwhelmed server kept forgetting things we asked for. No parking area. Food was OK. But my pancakes for moo shu, were dried out and I couldnt get servers attention for more. Parking: They couldnt tell me where to park. No street parking. Parking lots on both sides of building were not theirs.
Please note this is for Szechuan Restaurant on Caledonia downtown, which is not affiliated with the Szechuan restaurant that closed on Burnside Road October 2023. I did an order through skip, but somehow it didn t work out. I just came from the hospital for day surgery and actually was told I had to walk to the restaurant to pick up my order. Luckily, I lived near enough I could figure it out and get myself dressed and out for dinner to pick up. The place was really busy with a lot of other Asian influenced people which to me is a good sign and they were quite busy. The food was good. It really was but the sweet-and-sour sauce tasted weird - not traditional sauce as you would expect. I would say it rates size 7 out of 10 for price and food quality taste.
Order takeout from here at least once a month maybe more . It s my favourite Chinese food currently I love the curry beef + lemon tea!
Most authentic Szechuan restaurant in town. Definitely come here if you want a taste of real Szechuan food.
incompetent idiots messed up my delivery order two times in a row
Delicious food! Loved the Szechuan brisket and green beans.
Excellent service over the phone. Lady explained some of the more unique dishes and we tried them. Really enjoyed virtually every dish. Highly recommend.
I thought because this place had pretty high prices that their food would be superior. I was very wrong. The broth in the wor wonton tasted like earthy dishwater. The sweet-and-sour pork tasted off. I would never order from this restaurant ever again, and would most likely dissuade anyone from ordering from this restaurant. $60 for Wor Wonton soup, kung pow chicken, sweet and sour pork and small steamed rice. I hope this review impacts the quality control of this small business and they turn things around.
I used to go here frequently but since the new ownership or renovations there food has definitely gone downhill.... the 1st time I went they over cooked the almond chicken but the rice was really good and when I just went there sweet and sour pork tasted off and there rice was terrible, I am not going back and I would not recommend the place to anyone unless some serious food quality changes are made. but the service is fantastic!
It has the best dishes I have tried: ginger beef, stir fried beef rice noodle, Mapo tofu, bbq pork neck fillet, Singapore vermicelli noodle, Hongkong milk tea. They all taste excellent.
i moved back from japan just for their chicken like i literally moved continents
The foods wasnt as good as it was before since the new ownership take over this place ,ginger beef , mandarine pork and chef special chicken, they used to be one of my favorite dishes but now they taste off. I would not recommend this restaurant . They will lose my bussiness
Food was fantastic. Definitely will be back again
The food and service are amazing! Family favourite for sure.
Have they changed ownership recently? Got take-out tonight Diane wasn t there in fact I didn t recognize anyone. Also the dishes were changed. Mu Shu Pork was completely different, not even remotely as good, and did not come with the pancakes or Hoisin Sauce. And the Eight Treasure Chicken was nowhere near as good, with much cheaper ingredients - mostly celery. I ve been going to this restaurant at least every couple of months for more than 30 years, and recommending them to everyone. I ll give them one more chance, but if it s still disappointing, they ll lose this customer.
Hit or miss. Found a staple in my food today. I assume it was just from stapling the bad or something. Still. I threw out my food and am out $90
They changed their menu and it was disappointing.
Love the food! The new dishes are absolutely mouthwatering.
Food is overpriced, overall horrible experience. They changed owners recently, can t say it was for the best. New owner(s) are super clueless and not helpful at all, no service what so ever. Would advise you to stay away from this place now, better off finding better quality food for less at other restaurants.
I used to come here quite a bit and loved the owners and the quality of food at decent prices. It seems recently that new ownership has taken over and not only has the menu changed, the quality has changed as well and not for the best, such a shame. Especially when there are tons of other restaurants that I can go to that are now of higher quality and service.
Great food, an established family business that has been consistent and favorable for 30 years plus.
I was visiting Victoria from Montreal for a few days and stopped here for dinner on my last night. After waiting an hour for the food, it finally came. The service could have been better, it was pretty difficult to get any of the staffs attention to even place our order to begin with. Which all would ve been not that bad if the food was good. However, I was very ill with food poisoning soon after and had to get on the plane the next day, and everything else I ate was from my parents.
The food was so good.. And it was really fast :)
I had the hot and soup sour and it was one of the best Ive had in victoria. I also tried the eggplant with garlic sauce and that was yumms
Food was delicious! Had lunch meal and milk tea. Price is not expensive too! The rice served with the meal was good for 2 pax. Sulit sarap!
This place is a killer! All the dishes we tried were absolutely fabulous and the waitress was super friendly and attentive. 100% will be coming back
Great food. Chow main and sweet sour pork was excellent. Thanks!!!
Always enjoy the food!!
Vegetarian options: Really tasty vegetarian options.
Excellent was service. The food was more sweet than we expected from a Szechuan restaurant.
I had the dry garlic ribs. While they were tasty and cooked properly, there were a lot of small bone splinters in them, half of them ended up in the garbage. The egg rolls were good. I was going to dine in, but there was an absolute racket coming from the back room, a lot of yelling and some strange loud, rattling noise. Not sure if Ill go back or not.
Hidden gem restaurant, better than expected and the staff and owner can also speak cantonese which is a big bonus.
Great people and a great experience. My meal was delicious- I highly recommend the broccoli with fresh mushroom! Overall we ordered three meals and shared between four people, and there was plenty of food for everyone, as the portions were generous. The service was amazing, and the waitress was super friendly to everyone who walked in while we were dining. The restaurant was quite clean too!
Ok so i been here a few times and can say every time was a totally different taste. One time it was too salty, another time it was not enough taste. The food is actually decent but just need more consistency. Worth coming again and id probably give 3.5 stars if i could.
This is the best Chinese restaurant in downtown Victoria. I ordered the beef brisket combo with fried rice for lunch. The beef just melted in my mouth. I would highly recommend this place!!!
Very delicious!
The portions are good here. Delicious, friendly, clean We will visit again! Thank you
The duck was good just dont order the moo shu. The briased brisket was very good. The tian tian noodles were very overcooked, maybe it was carry over heat during delivery. Solid place
Ive been eating here for 4 decades and it NEVER DISSAPOINTS!! True decadence in flavor and the staff is great.. my delivery guy was so super sweet and took the time to indulge in conversation
have been going to this place for 20-25 years, was always good up until about 2 years ago .. we thought they were just having some issues because of the pandemic, sooooo we gave them a few more chances.....no improvement !! Today was the final straw... WE ordered Hot and sour soup , AWFUL... ginger fried beef, the worst I,ve ever had, salt and pepper squid... could not chew through it, pork chow mien...greasy, BUT the plain rice was fine...
Good Rich in flavor and very satisfying, excellent service as well. We visited Victoria for the day and we wanted to have something we all can enjoy (as some in our group were vegetarian).
Great experience. Played it pretty safe and got the spicy ginger beef, combo veggies, and chicken chow mein. First, portion sizes were loaded. Great value. Quality was pretty good too. Especially the ginger beef. Everything tasted like it was freshly cooked. The one thing I noted was the veggies and chow mein were a little bit bland. Like they could have used some more salt/MSG (words I never thought Id use when describing Chinese takeout lol). Not that big of a deal, though. Ill also say the chicken chow mein had big, tender chunks of chicken, which was pretty nice. Im not sure how it compares to the previous ownership, but I was happy and would recommend it.
After driving past this place hundreds of times, we decided to order take out for our New Years dinner. Despite being super busy, they were fabulous, and the food is absolutely delicious. My new favourite Chinese restaurant in Victoria!
This is my favourite Chinese restaurant in Victoria. Consistently excellent dishes whether eating in (pre-Covid) or getting takeout. Spicy ginger beef and Mongolian pork are my favourites but every dish I have had has been excellent.
Last night we indulged in (what has become) one of our favorite take-outs, the Szechuan Restaurant, ...Steamed Dumplings, Spicy Ginger Beef, Diced Chicken with Cashew nut, Stir fried Green Bean, with lots of fluffy rice.....So Delicious!! My husbands family spent time in China. They all say Ding Hao!!
Ive been getting take-out from here for well over a decade. Its always excellent, fast, and the service is great. Highly recommend the Mandarin Pork!
Love their food! Beef Bok Choy is my favourite! I love the 8 Treasure Chicken too! One of my go-to places!!
Ive been a huge fan of Szechuan since moving to Victoria in the 80s. Theres such a huge variety of delicious dishes on their menu. Absolutely tops on my list of comfort food! Highly recommended!
Absolute best Chinese food in all of Victoria. I moved across town and still return time and again, despite the journey. Amazing ginger fried beef. Not greasy or salty, just full of flavour.
My first time here. Ive had Ginger beef many times in my life and it is usually golden-light brown to a darker brown and best when it tastes like Honey. Either these people make it with other than usual ingredients (like lots of soy) or they burnt my order as it was DARK BLACK. It was palletable but barely good. I fed it to the birds.
Ordered a takeaway for a family celebration and the quality of the food was fantastic. This is THE place.
Weve been ordering from here for about 20 years. Consistently excellent. The dark orange fried beef and ginger beef are two guilty, yummy favourites, as is the eggplant. Tried the steamed buns this time, which were a great alternative to rice. (Although to be honest, we doubted we were eating the buns correctly...) We particularly also like that Szechuan does their own delivery.
Wow! Our dental hygenist recommended this restaurant. We were not disappointed. Best Chinese food in Victoria, B.C. in our opinion. We were all first-time customers and Szechuan did not disappoint. We thoroughly enjoyed every dish and will all most definitely be repeat customers. Well done Szechuan!
Big fan! You should try it
Food is fantastic! Our favourite Chinese spot - consistently good. We do pickup and the staff are lovely.
The staff (Diane) are very friendly and helpful. I had take out for my first time and based on my tasty meal and quick service I will order again. Ginger beef, Shanghai Noodles, Bok Choy with garlic and if you like spicy peanut sauce I highly recommend the cold chicken appetizer with the strangest name on the menu; Strange Taste Chicken. Id welcome back that tasty strange chicken!
The food is delicious great place to check out
Best Chinese food in town! Small unassuming restaurant from the outside. Delicious food. Staff is so friendly. Would highly recommend their chicken cream corn soup, house crispy noodle, and salt and pepper pork. Really everything tastes great!
Spicy ginger beef has been a favorite from here for over 30 years. Consistent quality and competitive prices.
Diane was very friendly and helpful with her suggestions! The red bean cake was so delicious, we ate it in the parking lot and immediately came back for more. Will definitely come again in the future.
Good food and service.
Always the best ginger fried beef in the city
I have lived 1 block away from this place for a few years but never checked it out. We got takeout today and it was phenomenal. Some of the best Chinese food Ive ever had 10/10 cant recommend it enough!!! Give it a try!
Polite, great tasting food Sesame chicken and fried rice were great! Saturday night and they got me my food in 15mins! Recommend for sure when youve got a hankering
Ive been ordering from Szechuan since about 2006. It is simply the best Chinese food in Victoria, and Ive never had a disappointing experience. JJs is great and I love I Kyu, but Szechuan Restaurant is still the champ after all these years. Kudos!
Best spicy ginger beef. I live in Vancouver now but whenever Im in Victoria I pick up a bunch of orders. All my ex-Victoria friends put in orders as well leaving me to haul 8 orders onto the ferry. ;) I miss this place for its originality. Highly recommend it as the food is great and the staff are lovely. Just go and enjoy your meal.
Awesome food and people!
So good. Dont really have to say anything else.
New Chinese go to! So so yummy! Ahhh-mazing Ginger beef! All other dishes - tried snap pea, mushroom, broccoli veg... fresh & delish, moo shu duck with pan cakes (good size).. incredible portion & a new fav. Highly recommend. Quick and hot to table delivery.
Best deep fried shrimp Ive ever had. Really good food at a fair. Definitely going to be ordering from here all the time :)
ok food, terrible service, one star is more than deserved
Weve been going tp Szechuan restaurant for years. My husband loves their spicy ginger beef and they provide many vegan choices for my daughter. Their food is consistently delicious. At the moment they are open for take away and delivery only.
This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in town operated by the nicest people ever. Prices are very reasonable for great portion of food. Its not as oily as other places and everything tastes really fresh. When Im too lazy, I order for delivery and its always very quick (30-45 minutes) which is very appreciated when I am so done for the day. I highly recommend to check this place out :)
We have eaten at this restaurant weekly for over 30 years. Their food is very authentic and delicious. Mild or hot and spicy to your choosing. Recommend to anyone.
Very dirty floor.
Szechuan has been a family favourite for years. The food is always fantastic. The staff is friendly and always make us feel at home. We miss going in in person due to COVID but recently got some take out and it was as excellent as ever. My favourites are the hot and sour soup and the spicy ginger beef. Make this a regular part of your dining experience.
No shrimp in the schezwan shrimp, but what looked like $5 worth of celery. Green beans were soggy AF and the mushrooms in the chow mein had that old mealy taste, you know when mushrooms in the fridge get old? Threw most of it out. The spring rolls were good, but quite salty. 2 stars:1 for excellent phone + delivery service, 1 for use of tin foil containers + paper bag rather than plastic.
Delivery was late and the food was cold. The food itself, besides being cold, was overly salty, swimming in vinegar, and yet somehow bland. The honey garlic pork was mostly breading and stale and extremely salty. The Szechuan spicy wontons werent spicy, Instead they were soggy and drowning in hoisin sauce. The dumplings were off. We didnt get the ginger beef we ordered, but after how bad it all was, Im kind of glad. Over priced, low-end American style Chinese food out of a box. Please avoid.
Best Chinese food Ive had so far in town. Richard is always awesome!
Have been enjoying the fine food at this restaurant for years. Have tried almost everything on the menu. Love the Peking Duck.
Best food ever, you wont be disappointed in any of the dishes you choose.
Clean, but food not great.
Fantastic food.
commonly
Lovely service here! Good food and decent prices wonderful atmosphere for a nice family dinner.
the spicy ginger beef is by far the best Ive tasted in town. good local family restaurant and the atmosphere is chill. The hot&sour soup is tasty. you must taste for yourself to experience the SZECHUAN STYLE. I would definitely come back again when i am in Victoria.
This is my go to Chinese restaurant when I am in Victoria. I am normally a picky eater when it comes to Chinese food as I look for quality and authenticity. Not only is their food delicious but their cleanliness and customer service, shows their dedication in the food industry. This place does not disappoint. Their portion size is very generous, so you can totally share amongst your families and friends. I highly recommend the Ginger Beef dish and pair that with one of their fried rice or the Singaporean Vermicelli Noodles. Oh, and do not forget their Hot and Sour Soup, YUM :)
Been going since I was a child, everyone is so nice there and the food is amazing. If you a fan of chinese food you should definitely go here.
What can I say about this place other than it has been around with the same owners, for 39 years... 39 years! Thats longer than your aunt Sharon has been designing jewellery. The food is still delicious as the first day I tried it when I was a kid. Protip: Get the Toffee Banana and treat yo self...
Ive been going here since I was a kid, and its maintained its amazingness the whole time! Incredibly tasty food, not greasy at all, and really affordable prices! (Between $12-15 for most of the large entrees) Highly recommend the mu zu pork, szechuan crispy noodles, and the bean curd in meat sauce (the last one sounds odd but is my favourite!)
Ordered delivery, after reading many reviews. Came hot and everything was cooked perfect, especially the veggies. Chefs Spicy Chicken was loaded with meat, with thigh/drumstick type Boneless Meat and Skin On, FYI. Kung Pao Squid was sauteed and sauce was awesome. Had broccoli, snowpea and mushroom. Again veggies were cooked perfect and sauce flavorful. Thin slices of garlic in all dishes except pork chow main, FYI. Could have been a bit more squid for $15.5 (there was maybe 3 pinkie sized pieces and 7 or 8 chopped smaller), but was also cooked well, so quality over quantity sometimes). Not a deal breaker. I will order again from here for sure! I agree with all reviews on the flavour and it has perfect spiciness without asking for more heat.
The food here was hands down the best Chinese food we ve ever had, and we ve had plenty! Fast service and friendly too. For those lucky enough to live nearby; go here, eat, enjoy, repeat. Thank you Szechuan Restaurant!
Worst take out portions ever
Staff is very friendly, but the soup I ordered was extremely salty for me, it does contain many wantons, however also salty! Checked more previous reviews, it seems it s a good Chinese restaurant for non Chinese.
The orange chicken here is good, but I dislike this place for their hotpot. How is a soup in a ceramic pot hotpot???
Great place and good food being goin there on a regular basis for 35 years! Diane was great as always taking care of my 91 year old mom and my 99 year old aunt.
Awesome food
Best Chinese in town
best Chinese food so far. tan tan noodle, ginger beef, vegetable chow mien
Delicious food!
Decent food in a somewhat tired setting, but not exactly anything to rave about. The signature Szechuan staple of hot sour soup was only passable. Hardly any Asian customers for lunch -- that tells you something.
Adequate Szechuan cuisine
Awesome food and service.. we will be going back...
The BEST!!! Has been since the beginning, Ive been going here for over 25 yrs!! NEVER disappointed
Good value good food
Cozy restaurant with delicious food.
Friendly staff. Ive been going to this restaurant for years. Prices have only changed once in ten years. Very reasonably priced. Seating area available. Takeout available. No parking lot for the restaurant. Pay or street parking nearby.
Across from Save on Foods memorial great place to go before performance good food gòod prices
Very unpalatable.
The food was really good, on par with most good Chinese food places in Vancouver. The price was fair for Victoria, but still quite a bit more than Vancouver. Worth trying.
YUM!
Excellent food the duck and seafood dishes were fresh and each dish beautifully spiced. Tried 6 different dishes and each were spiced differently. A joy to the pallet
Terrible. Not Sichuan restaurant just called Sichuan food. There do not have traditional Sichuan food. It is Guangdong. Not good , bad service and the staff has not respect word. Do not recommend.
The staff who is a women wear black glasses. Her attitude is so rude! She want to teach me how to speak? Funny! Do not go there.
Bad service from a rude women.
Good food... portions very small for a group of 7 adults
The service of the Guangdong women is rude!
Finally found a great Chinese restaurant in Victoria! The only thing I would request is an increased portion of pan fried dumplings for the price. This is my new go to place for Chinese.
The food is mediocre for typical Chinese but the delivery and pick up times are ridiculous. The three times I have ordered delivery (we live a km away) I have been quoted an hour, and the food took 1:45 to 2 hours and 15 minutes to arrive; this was only after calling back at an hour and a half to nicely inquire where the order was. Pick up is regularly delayed as well and I have waited for a half hour at their old, dark, and typically empty location to receive our order. While the food is okay, it is not anything special, and after several repeat visits to give a neighbourhood restaurant the benefit of the doubt, enough is enough. Customers are obviously not worth their time, so they are no longer worth mine and my money.
A small Chinese restaurant that serves hot and spicy Szechuan food. Found this place on a late night searching for open Restaurant. Has a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. And being a vegetarian, this was a treat. Loved their hot and sour soup! It was such a relief to find a vegan, good hot and sour soup. It instantly lifts your taste buds and gets you all prepared for the next course. There s a lot of options to choose from. Definitely worth visiting it again and again.
Been eating here for 18 years never had a problem with the quality or the service great family run business
Not a huge fan. I really appreciate how they are open late and do have a great selection of options. However, their chef special spicy chicken was just a lot of sauce and not really spicy. They wouldnt allow substitutions for their dinner for 2 item for something cheaper (due to dietry restrictions, we were unable to eat an item on the menu). Everything seemed rushed and the service wasnt the most friendly.
Lovely staff. Good prices. Try the ginger beef. Bam! Youre welcome.
Used to love having lunch here. Went back and the woman, who is always up front, was awful and rude. I think Ill pass on any opportunity to ever go back here. Many other great choices where the staff arent brutally awful in their treatment of customers. Avoid!
Awesome food . Dianne is awesome as well!
Best Chinese food in town. The Mandrin beef is my favourite
Great Fresh Food, unique style, interesting menu. We drive from Chemainus to eat here.
Quality spicy Chinese food!! Fast and friendly service. Nicely decorated dining room. Reasonable prices.
Really??? This passes for top notch food.....of any kind! Spicy ginger chicken had no ginger, a little heat and enough sugar to send a diabetic into shock, and thats was the best part of the dish. The chicken had the consistency of jerky, I have never had anything that dry and tough served to me in my life. The Mongolian beef was bland and extremely dry, and whats up with not including a side of rice.....with any of our dishes. I ordered takeout, walked back to my rental, took two bites and tossed it in the trash.
Love this place!
Food is always very flavourful. Tucked away, but inexpensive.
This is one of if not the best restaurants around! Spicy ginger chicken, Mongolian beef, orange favor crispy beef, chef special chicken, honey garlic chicken, peppercorn beef, etc.... all ridiculous! Additionally, the server (Diane) is a sweetheart. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Amazing sauce with fresh foods. Try # 2 on lunch menu
Unfortunately, I wont be coming back. Ordered a company crispy noodle to go today $11.50 after tax, portion wise, its only filled up to the half of the take-out container. Taste wise, BBQ pork is not fresh. When I asked for chopsticks, the waitress asked me, Did you ask for it over the phone? Eh. No? I never got any restaurant ask me this question when I asked for chopsticks for a take-out. When I got in the office, I noticed the chopsticks she grabbed from the kitchen has mold at the bottom. The packaging has stain of other yellow sauces. I dont even want to know whats happening back there in the kitchen. Oh, and, no Napkin in my take-out bag. Not a pleasant visit, not coming back.
Rude, rude, rude. Didnt even bother ordering, they chased us out with their manners.
The best Chinese food in the city!! Try the ginger fried beef.
