538 Fisgard St, Victoria, BC V8W 1R4, Canada
Long-running, old-fashioned Chinese institution offering dim sum & other Cantonese & Sichuan plates.
i visited here 2019 right before covid19 and i had a good memory so i came back. ordered kung pao chicken with small wantang as a side dish. i was so confused by what i got. i guess no one can call it a kungpao chicken. hardly see chicken in it but just lots of salary and peanuts 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ chicken cube wasn’t seasoned with spice or fried at all… wantang was ok tho.
Still an iconic destination to be at. We were there 20 years ago and nothing has changed. The servers continue to push the carts offering assorted dim sum delicacies like time stood still. Not many restaurants use carts these days. Don Mee stands the test of time.
Dim sum experience was nice. The cart ladies kept on bringing shrimp based and deep fried morsels one after another. Tofu and eggplant dishes were also topped with shrimp. The place was full by 10:30 am on a Sunday morning. Good alternative to Sunday brunch with friends and family.
I love this restaurant in Victoria's chinatown ... haven't been here since years ago in early 2000s due to am only rediscovering Victoria since 2022 ...its a famous iconic restaurant for chinatown here lots of celebrities have visited here over the years , am glad to rediscover this restaurant here , its location is upstairs no elevator just big staircase up and down to restaurant level . It's very ideal for large groups , the food portions are huge here each plate big can serve up to 3 people + ...... the quality of the food is amazing , they have vegetarian options too , I added menu Pictures for the post , I love this restaurant at night and the whole chinatown area at night all lite up , they are open all day . They got Washrooms, bar , window seating, as for parking its on the side streets outside and it's walkable from most downtown Victoria hotels and public transportation nearby
We had a delicious meal of Peking Duck and steamed pork buns. Quick and courteous service. Great atmosphere in Chinatown.
I tried the Dim sum hour, the food was awesome. It was my first time trying it. I went a 2nd time and the same as last time Quality food and service
Great atmosphere and good service. But…. The dim sum was horrendous. The recipes were really off and the quality of food was quite poor. The chicken feet were not as puffy as they should be and it had an unfresh odor. The shrimp rolls wrapped in rice paper tasted old and the rice paper was dry. The pork ribs were lacking in flavor but texture was fine. The egg congee was bland and had few pieces of egg. The fried taro was mediocre. The xiao long bao skins were dry, had no hot soup inside, and was warm at best. The shrimp dim sum thingys were very tough and lacked flavor. The xiu mai tasted like beef meatballs and not Chinese dim sum. The best thing we had there was maybe the tea. The price was very high for this low quality of food. We paid 160 CAD after tax and tip for 4.5 people. Food used to be good here but it’s taken a drastic change.
Chinese is always hit and miss for me, it has to hit a number of metrics for me to say I really liked it. Don Mee nailed it. Very good food (see pic of empty plates), great service, and very clean and elegant style/decor. We enjoyed the experience a lot.
Great place for a party
This is my 7th time eating here. The food is delicious. The staff is amazing.
Too much MSG, not healthy, too much stairs to climb
Fun and festive, great for classic banquet vibes.
Looks like a throw back from the 60 s food is good and the service is fast and friendly
The food quality and taste are average, but the dim sum cart is still there. The interior decoration is not much different from the traditional restaurant.
I have yet to have dim sum that rivals Don Mee, From the Rice wraps, dumplings, tapioca, chickens feat!
casual dim sum lunch during weekday is pretty relaxing
I ordered them first from DoorDash and have visited multiple times with my boyfriend and boyfriends mother after that. Beautiful place with a diversified menu and decent servers. Very reasonably priced too! Parking: Healthy affordable meal
Old style dim sum. Overall the foods are good, plenty choices of dim sum. Parking: Parking might be the worst part of this place. Really expensive parking lot, might wanna park somewhere far and walk to here. Food : 4/5 |
Highly recommend! Delicious dim sum, great atmosphere, convenient location downtown! We went for the morning dim sum service, loved the carts with all the different dim sum options. The prices were a little pricy per dish. But it was great.
Ordered take out food. Very disappointed! Way overdone deep fried prawns. Terrible chow mein. Used to be so much better. Prices are too high for the quailty. Service : 3/5
Fantastic dinner! Everything was delicious and the service was great!
Very hot and stuffy on the weekends. Can be hit and miss with the carts. No idea what the actual cost is per plate until to go to pay. Definitely a fun experience but better places out there. No idea if the food is brought in or actually made there?
I went in for an early dinner with my girlfriend, the place was totally empty and was put together so nice I wasn t sure if it had been rented for a private event. The staff were welcoming and sat us at a nice table by the window, service was prompt and kind. The food was very good. We got 4 items and liked it all. I would need to explore more of the menu to further rate. I recommend this place whole heartedly
Excellent service speedy, very friendly! Food items for us were hit and miss, some better than others.. We found two hairs in one of our dishes sadly.
Food was good but didnt get what we ordered. When we asked for what we ordered they argued that it was right. Ordered assorted beef chow mein and got seafood and chicken. They wouldnt fix it. Very disappointed.
We are disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. The food quality was poor and tasted like old buffet/cafeteria food. The price we paid does not match the quality of food. Also, we ordered deep-fried wontons and recieved deep fried wrappers with no filling.
Always gather here with family for Dim Sum
The definitive dim sum location in Victoria. Complete with the traditional cart service. Reservations recommended. Vegetarian options: There are a reasonable but limited number of meat free options but its hard to say a veggie dish wont have some broth or meat element given the cuisine.
It was too unpalatable. Every dish I ordered was terrible. When the boiled pork slices were served, I was confused. Is this really boiled pork slices?
Got the Family <2 meal. It all was delicious.
Great Dim Sum restaurant with carts circulating the tables full of yummy treats. All the standards but a few that stick out are the eggplant dim sum and the fried shrimp dumplings. They also have an extensive a la cartera menu of usual Cantonese dishes.
Dinner not included in tour package.
When traveling with my parents to Victoria, our go to place for food
I visited this restaurant because of good reviews and recommendations, but I was disappointed. The pork was too cold and dry, and the special dim sum, despite its different appearances, all tasted like shrimp, so I couldnt experience a variety of flavors. The fried dumplings were bland and needed sauce to be edible, and the xiaolongbao had no juice and wasnt warm at all. It was a disappointing visit, and I wont be returning on my next trip.
Still my favorite dim sum restaurant on the island. Lots of selection, and so many delicious flavors.
The dim sum is generally good. Its pretty good to eat among the Chinese restaurants on the island.
Our experience was wonderful! The staff was so friendly and the service was welcoming and attentive. The other patrons were of all nationalities and the energy in the restaurant was infectious! We enjoyed our meal!! The Dim Sum was tasty! Vegetarian options: Many veggie dishes!
The food here is only good if youve never had dim sum before. Its also way overpriced
Dietary restrictions: I found gluten free dishes Food
The reviews are mixed, but it suits our taste very well. After living in Guangdong for ten years, morning tea has become a part of our daily diet. I have eaten at many places, but I still think Victoria s Doo Mei is very good and tastes very authentic. I especially recommend the brewed rice. Green pepper
Excellent!!!
This is a very good Chinese restaurant. The menu is fabulous. The food delicious. And the service great.
Dim Sum was not fresh and overcooked, staff was unfriendly and I ve never had such a bad fried rice in my life. Oh and the toilets were super dirty, with splashes of water/urine all over the soil. Wouldn t recommend, obviously
Fortune cookie was the best part of the meal.
Just a note, Im not an expert at dim sum. I dont know how it should taste or fair pricing. That being said, my family walked in here wanting Chinese food. We were surprised when they came around with carts of hot food and offered it to you. We said yes to the first 6 items that came out. We enjoyed everything very much. And left full and happy. A little over$100 for 3 people
We went there for a dim sum, and the food was average. Each basket of dim sum costs an average of $10, and the dim sum menu is very limited.
Tastes amazing! Prices are really good too. Went at 10am on a Sunday and no line at all.
I did not like the food. I did not like it one bit. First of all they were out of everything we wanted to order, so we had to settle on the pork dumplings, wonton soup, and peking pork short ribs. The wonton soup was the only edible thing on our table the dumplings were just not very good and the Peking short ribs tasted like Panda Express orange chicken but worse (somehow??). It was also insanely expensive I almost choked when I saw the bill. I do not plan on ever coming back to this place, and wouldn t recommend it to my worst enemy.
Good
So so. I didnt have much expectation and not my choice, either.
Thank you for a delicious dinner tonight. The fried rice was amazing!
Great location, nice indoors, good eating. Had soup spilled on my camera, hot tea almost knocked over on my lap, and a waitress ask another member of my party why the tip was missing. Future diners: please come with expectations of food that meets their reputation and service that befits a restaurant less noteworthy.
A well-known restaurant in the middle of Chinatown. Lives up to the hype. Every dish we tried was outstanding. If you want delicious Chinese food, this place wont disappoint!
Group of five arrived for lunch at 12pm. The service was extremely poor! Super slow! we didnt receive any water. We waited and waited for the next round of food. We left and went to a different restaurant. I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN!
It was not great communication, but food was good.
Rude, terrible. We got up and walked out.
Now I know the reason why they have 3.9 start. I just left restaurant with NO enjoy foods because the foods is the worst that I have ever had and its super expensive. Especially, Its service attitude, I called in to order a table for 6 adults and 2 kids, when I get there, they just gave me exactly 6 chairs and didnt wanna give us a bigger table even though my husband asked for it. I have to come to front counter to ask for it! Also the food has no flavor.
Beautifully laid out restraunt with some quick and amazing service! Shang-hai chow mein was to die for! Wheelchair accessibility: There are many stairs to get to the 2nd floor with no elevator
Very good place for lunch, good, nice and cheap
Good food. HOWEVER, servers are discourteous about asking for tip while we re not done yet. Not a good way of asking tip. We re supposed to hand in tip before we leave. Tip isn t mandatory after all. Won t recommend this restaurant despite of having a good food and good place dine in.
Just okay food. Overpriced, but large portions. Service was okay. I was trying to bag my leftovers, while dishes being pulled away, and being asked to sign my check at the same time.
first we came here for dinner; the food is delicious
We had a great Dim Sum lunch at Don Mee. As with many Dim Sum restaurants, the service is only okay if you dont speak one of the Chinese dialects. But the food at Don Mee more than makes up for the basic service and basic atmosphere.
I came here once before pre-pandemic and the food, although not the best, was relatively good. However, upon this return trip to Victoria we took the family to eat here again but the food was so bad it was barely edible. The shrimp wrap was dry, brittle and old, the siu mai tasted worse than the frozen grocery ones not to mention it tasted like a hard old meatball, the xiao long bao was thick and dry, the chicken feet had an off putting fishy flavor, and the preserved egg porridge was flavorless the pork tasted though. We had one bite of each item and our whole table decided we wanted to leave and get something else. This was the first time our family has left a dim sum restaurant hungry. The food was that horrible, none of us wanted to eat any more. We ended up spending $170, still hungry and left feeling so disappointed at how bad the quality of food has become. Needless to say none of us will be returning again. I have yet to discover a replacement dim sum restaurant on Victoria but the sushi at Gozen sushi bar and the prime rib and lobster at The Keg was delicious!
The service was very great and the food was very good, especially the Chinese New Year set menu which was very The service was great.
horrible service... everyone around us was getting served and they walked right past us for over 20 minutes... food was cold for some reason and was greasy and stale. went here as a kid and i remember it being great but prices went up SO MUCH and quality has gone down. so sad
me and my friend have came here since we were kids , and it s gotten exponentially worse, I never thought I d be leaving a one star review here. They are only focused on serving the WHITE people (me and my friend are Chinese) and I had to CHASE them for any attention at all or even to get a menu or get my order taken. When the food arrived it was horrible, the beef we ordered was $20 and had only 8 pieces of meat which wasn t even meat just the deep fried parts!
Serving the cooked table by table is good experience. However, dim sum itself is the worst among many dim sum places I visited in pacific northwest in Canada and USA. Too many Dim sum made with fish cakes, not with the fresh seafood. I didnt came to pay that for fish cake. Many servers cant speak English, and they couldnt answer whats inside but I just accepted what looks good but regretted after I see fried fishcake is inside.
Service was very slow. To order a soda was like pulling a tooth. OMG food was lacking flavor. The carts are always on the other side of the room like it was a special area of the restaurant. Who knew that was possible? We waited for 30 minutes, yes, 30 min for BBQ BOA, Here is the kicker before that we were asking for BBQ. All we got from the staff was I dont know. I have shrimp rolls....... BOTTOM line, never again will we go there !!!! DONT......
Tourist trap, overpriced and poor manner. Ask the price list for dim sum before order off the wagons and compare to the marked pricing on your order sheet. Waitress looked at dim sum dishes and said one was marked underpriced with no reasoning. I will not be in this place ever again, enough said. Go to the Golden City restaurant instead nearby and get treated with respect.
worst chinese restaurant ever! noodles were undercooked and way too chewy, handed us wrong meal and told us it was the right meal we ordered, until the other waiter came and said it was a different meal, pork dimsum absolutely disgusted our family, all waiters were way too impatient and came by our table every 5 minutes to give us a new dimsum or appetizer when we didnt even order our meal yet, miscommunication/language barrier. so overall food was nasty, and would NOT recommend it. since this was our first time at a Chinese Dimsum place, Don mee Dim Sum, you have disappointed us. Would never go here again. They have bad reviews for a reason.
Disappointing Dim Sum at Don Mee: Not Worth the Hype. I recently visited Don Mee, a dim sum restaurant that had garnered quite a bit of local buzz. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired, especially when compared to the exceptional dim sum offerings in Toronto and Markham. First and foremost, the food quality was underwhelming. The steamed dumplings, a staple of any dim sum meal, were overcooked, lacked the delicate, translucent skins that are a hallmark of well-made dumplings and textures Ive come to expect from top-tier dim sum establishments. The har gow (shrimp dumplings) were similarly disappointing, with chewy wrappers and shrimp that tasted less than fresh and very chewy. Shumai (steamed pork dumplings) tasted stale and fowl. Moreover, the variety of dishes was limited compared to what you would find in the dim sum restaurants of Toronto and Markham. Overall, Don Mee failed to capture the essence of true dim sum dining.
Shrimp and pork soup is out of this world. Shrimp dumplings are also great !
Stylish place with tasty food. But has minima of $17pp which isnt displayed in any language. Staff were very direct in advising after wed placed our mid afternoon gapfill order: this doxks 2stars! Food
This was my go-to dim sum restaurant in Victoria before the pandemic. After being disappointed recently by two well-established Chinese restaurants in Richmond, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Don Mee is still as good as before. The restaurant was not very busy, but the freshly made dim sum were delicious. The food was not greasy. Highly recommend! No need to go to Richmond for dim sum anymore.
From street level there is a big flight of stairs to get up to the dining rooms and we didnt notice an elevator. There is a private dining room for groups to book. The dinner menu has just a platter of mixed dim sum items to order, so go earlier if all you want is dim sum. I think all were shrimp and tasty enough. The menu was big enough that we had a hard time deciding what to choose to go along with the dim sum packets. Our broccoli dish had nice, crisp, bright green broccoli done just right while the baby bok choy was a bit tough. We found the service to be satisfactory. We lingered over dinner, so sometimes they checked on us and other times we called staff to the The total price seemed a bit high for what we had, but Id go back again to try more items.
The dimsum shrimp balls are super disgusting. It taste like a plastic.
Iconic, longest-serving Chinese restaurant in Victoria. Had great meals both times Ive visited. Lots of great Dim Sum choices during the day. Had the eggplant entree and it was delicious, with generous portions. Vegetarian options: At least 10 good vegetarian choices
Nice place, warm environment, good food, service a little bit rude.
Great Dim Sum. Our favorite place in Victoria to enjoy a Sim Sum lunch. Fast service, great choices, and a fun way to enjoy lunch with friends and or family.
I was there for my birthday. Have never been there before. We didnt get service for almost an hour of being there because they were too busy with someone elses birthday party. The place was packed. We were put in a corner and when the food was finally served, the vegetable chop suey was mushy and overcooked. The lemon chicken barely had any lemon sauce on it. Just a few pieces of pineapple. I was disappointed.
Incredible dim sum!
Average flavor and food quality.
The worst Chinese food ever Ordered up some fried rice and noodle dishes, awful taste
The food was tasty and servings were very reasonable for the price. We had a very large group that they kindly accommodated. The place was clean and we loved the ambience. Staff were friendly and very patient with us. The manager was Rick was very helpful when we had issues with our receipt (I had contacted them 3 days later and they were kind enough to help us out). Would definitely come back again when we visit the island.
My son found a piece of metal in the har gow and the manager didn t even come by to apologize. Extremely disrespectful of them.
This is our worst experience in a food establishment. It is sad that the wait staff became rude with my husband when he didnt give the tip that he wanted. Aggressively took the machine away and gave us a nasty look while walking towards the reception till. Called my husband cheap, first when the wait staff grabbed the machine and second while we were leaving. We already paid more than $150 worth of food, and theres only 3 of us. It isnt fair to be treated this way. We will never come back.
Dim sun may be good but the dish I had it was very salty. Overpriced for the quality of the food.
Excellent adik sum
I really enjoyed dinner at Don Mee! We had one of the family dinners and there was more than enough to go around. I really enjoyed the organized delivery of each course. Staff were very attentive and friendly as well.
Rude staff, poor service, the man started being aggressive when I was not willing to give him a tip. Avoid this restaurant, there are better restaurants in Victoria. Rude staff and mannerless employees. I recommend they attend a training on customer relations.
OMG! Loved it! So delicious, friendly staff. Very clean washrooms! We cant wait to return!
I have eaten here several times over a 50 year period. The food was not fresh, it seems it had sat cooling for a while. The rice and vegetables were not very tasty. In the past this was one of the best I have eaten at in Canada. Not this time
We order for 8 people they charge 180$ and we had the size of 4 poeples. Very expensive for the size of their plates.
Me and my partner went to dim sum today. What a disappointment. We were there for 2 hours trying to enjoy a fulsome sample of all they had to offer. We had many many carts come back around to us several times, with no variations. Mostly shrimp and other deep fried items. No chicken dishes other than chickens feet, nothing with beef, and only one item with pork that was just a pork meatball. What we were offered certainly differed from the photo poster at street level offering items with BBQ pork slices and plenty of vegetables. We werent offered anything with vegetables in the 2 hours we were there. I cannot recommend this experience but I think they are the only game in town and are taking advantage of that fact.
Went at 1:15 p.m. on a Sunday with 5 friends. Food was excellent, although I think we should have visited earlier in the day because they clearly started winding down service around 20 minutes into our meal bringing around less carts and less variety of food items. We didn t see a single vegetable dish! Hoping the food offerings improve when I come back during peak brunch hours.
My first time at Don Mee. Loved everything about it. Excellent food, great service and warm atmosphere. I will be back.
Amazing experience, great service. We got the new year dragon 8 course menu. Everything was great, not a fan of the beef. Small dessert pastry. Would for sure come back just for the amazing service. A little pricey as it was $35 per person, but worth it.
Amazing food! Highly recommend!!
Been going here with family since I was little. So many great memories. Amazing food.
Good dim sum. Must visit when in Vuctoria.
Great dim sum
Good eats, good Dim Sum
Great spot for dim sum. Oldschool cart style with lots of options. Be aware the selection is slightly less on weekdays. (no grill cart+) Menu items are hit and miss. Recently a heavy miss, all veggies dishes were mainly celery and lacking flavour, chicken was over cooked and dry. Chow mein was flavourless, beef was tough and tasted old.
Really disappointed with this restaurant. Their dim sum is mediocre and dishes from their regular menu is less than mediocre. Well over priced for poor quality dishes.
Kid-friendliness: Fish tanks! Food
Food was ok, but service was terrible. They gave us high bills on purpose expecting to tip 10 dollars in a $30 bill, then complained my tip being too low. They also forgot to give us cutlery to eat the dumplings and bowl for chow mian. Also, many items in the menu not avaliable.
Came here at the end of lunch, I think. Communication was terrible. We ate off the dim sun carts. The BBQ pork was nice but small portion. Wife had some shrimp thing she liked. Once our waitress left, we never saw her again. Finally my wife got up to get a water pitcher. The hostess followed her back to our table and we told her of that and then she said she would get the drinks we had ordered asap. Asap? When she came back, she asked if we wanted to order more food. I told her I was too disgusted to stay longer.
My wife havent been there for awhile. One of the places that is always good! Food
Sim sun was great. Daughters chicken not fully cooked which was a big turn off
thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. lovely hostess. fried rice is a must try
Good variety of dim sum. u Vegetarian options: Ooo Food : 4/5 |
Very good dim sum
My beef chow fun was good and plenty.
Great food and service! I recommend!
Food is not good. Device is nothing. Do not waste your time and money
Jimei Seafood Restaurant is located in Chinatown, Victoria, Great Britain. It has been serving the surrounding community for 83 years, and its address has not changed. It is 538 Fisgard St, Victoria BC, Canada. It is really rare! Many people like the morning tea here. I like the seafood here. The lobster is delicious. If you want to know the history of this restaurant, you can go to the museum in Chinatown. There are some old Jigmei items on display. The Chinese are really diligent and have made an indelible contribution to the construction of this city!
Wow this restaurant is amazing. We ordered lobster noodles (longxiayimian), mu shu pork and seasonal veggies. Chef has great skills in making the lobster. Sherry was wonderful and the space is nice and spacious. Thanks for a wonderful dinner.
Really good dim sum, great staff and lots of tables. For me it had been a long time since I had dim sum and Don Mee didnt disappoint us.
Quality was adequate. Appreciate the carts and good service. Nice open space.
Its bittersweet giving them such a high rating as I wish to keep it to myself haha. But the food was so so tasty, and the service was great.
Everything we ordered was exquisite! Those scallops were pillows of pure deliciousness. Food is family style, and reasonably priced. Loved everything about this place minus the panhandlers nearby the entrance.
The location is perfect The restaurant atmosphere is just welcoming The food is great My favorite is the wanton soup and sticky rice
Decent Dim Sum place. Big lines on weekends but people are moved in and out quite quickly. Only downside on service is they were a little slow to ask about drinks/bring out water but everyone was friendly.
for such a large and nice looking place youd think the food would reflect it. my fried rice wasnt fried, had no flavor and arrived lukewarm. the hot pot (which wasnt even technically hot pot) also arrived lukewarm, and was barely edible with how tasteless and slimy the meat was. the ginger beef was the only thing that had any flavor. when we were finished eating what we could the server grilled us on why we hadnt finished the hot pot. definitely shouldve listened to my gut and went to one of the neighboring places instead
The elephant place to see its commercial premises and the Chinese crafts that you find in the place
Expensive but tastes cheap. Not worth it
It is the better Chinese food in the area, though somewhat pricy. The dishes that are good are just good, some are meh. But, THE BEST egg tarts Ive had in my life. It is adequate dim sum. If you want really good Chinese food, go to Vancouver. Or Richmond. This was my second time at this restaurant. Last year the siu mai was what youd get at any dim sum restaurant, this time it was chunky and kind of tough and tasted a bit too much like pork (might have been a little close to expiration if you know what I mean) and not much else. Chicken feet and cow intestine were good but the sticky rice was bland. Shrimp dumplings were excellent. So you have a range of pretty good to somewhat bland dishes. I said the egg tarts were outstanding, and they were. Ive had a LOT of egg tarts. I dont know what happened, but the custard was spiced with cardamom. While cardamom is not as common in Cantonese cuisine, and egg tarts are not made spiced, it happened. Whatever genius decided to do this deserves a raise because it subtly added a little complexity to make a beautiful tart. We arrived at 11:30a, the restaurant filled up steadily after and was packed by the time we left. People would come up the stairs, conglomerate at the top and block everyone who was trying to pay, while the line to be seated was somewhere behind them. There were not many people coming to clear the tables, I saw about two-three people pushing carts and four other people running around serving, clearing and setting up tables, and trying to handle payment. So 7 or 8 staff in total. For a restaurant with 15+ tables that could seat 6+ at each it was clear they were overwhelmed. Not their fault, but they were understaffed, so while everyone was nice, service was just not as good.
Don Mee has been open since the 1940s. The food here is fantastic. You have to decide if you are going to order off the menu or off the Dim Sum carts. I didnt know this and one of the women with a Dim Sum cart chewed me out in Cantonese when I told her I changed my mind and wanted to order off the menu. The tea is fantastic. I ordered Moo Shu Pork which was the best Ive ever tasted. When youre done eating, the cashier already knows what to charge you. Just bring the receipt they put on your table to pay. Ill definitely come back to this restaurant now that I know how it works!
I remember going as a kid during trips to Victoria. I have taken my kid now too and it brings me such joy. My top location for lunch in Victoria that is quick, delicious, and family friendly. Has not changed, that is a great thing. Only down side is on the second floor with no elevator.
Very good and clean dim sum. It s very popular when we went which is a great sign.
The food here was really, really good. Im picky with my dim sum and this ticked all my boxes. In particular the custard cups were among the best Ive ever had. Would definitely come back at the next opportunity - I thoroughly enjoyed a large meal here.
Bit of a disappointment for Asian cuisine. Too western.
The food is good. Shanghai dumplings are soooooo authentic. Beef chow fun is tasty. Spareribs are so so though. We don t quite like it. But I strongly recommend Shanghai dumplings! The waitress is too rushy, sounds like lack of patience.
We went for dim sum and did not realize that at dinner time, the only dim sum they serve is a 10pc platter. The menus are not super informative, so we didn t know what we were eating. However, the dim sum did taste good. We ordered the Don Mee Chow Mein, and were surprised to see that chicken lunch meat was used instead of real chicken meat, and that the noodles were very dry. This was our first time there, so we didn t realize that the meal is served more family style and that the portions per entree are quite large. The service was on the slow side, though the guys refilling the water did a great job! My impression is that they do really delicious dim sum, but that their normal entrees are lacking.
Its a chaotic restaurant with very busy staff so inattentive let alone welcoming. The taste of the food is quite satisfactory, I ordered beef with black pepper, but the meat is pitiful. The advantage is that the business hours are longer, providing an option for people looking for a restaurant at night.
Great dim sum! It was a bit pricey, but worth it!
The place to go for Dim Sum in Victoria, absolutely delicious. The service was slow and somewhat lacking attention though.
Grest food, friendly staff and good recommendations.
This restaurant is so weird. I tried to order from the menu but there is only runners with trolley tables. They show you if you want something you say okay I will take those prawns stuff, than they check your billing sheet. They come back to you with more food. I end up to say no all the time. I found this place annoying
Authentic dim sum dishes, the way the ladies push the cart around is very authentic. The quality is acceptable 8/10. So overall its a 9/10 experience.
Very average chinese food. They charged me for two cokes instead of giving me a refill. This is the first time in Canada that happened to me. I got charged for two drinks and actually the size was very small
I write this review with great regret Don Mee was a favourite restaurant for years before COVID so the idea of revisiting this old haunt after so many years raised my expectations. Unfortunately, they were dashed. While I was greeted cheerfully, the waitress was surly and unhelpful. And the food, while served hot, was inedible. The final strike against the restaurant was that when I complained about the quality of the food, nothing was done to adjust the bill. So sorry Don Mee I won t be back.
So cool! Loved how the food came in carts when it came to our table. I will come many times in the future!
Great dimsum place. Really nice servers.
Bad bad bad service our waitress came over the table after a looong 30 min waiting (by then I wanted to leave but rest of the family wanted to wait for a bit more we were there any way, and go find another pace could take us long ) a lady came ruching on the order wait for another 30 min to get the first dish , she messed up with the order on top of that start arguing whit us abut it we ende up asking for the bill wile we still waiting for some more dishes, by this time . Worse experience ever of all the time in Victoria . My experience might not affect to the restaurant as some of them don t care abut capacity ;all they care is abut to feet as much as they can and deal with it any was they won t leave
Good menu selection but food quality is mediocre.
Terrible restaurant with terrible service. We ate a cockroach, and waitress just took the food right away without any explanation.
Dumplings are good but not beef fried flat noodles. A bit pricey for the food quality. Service is terrible. The lady selling dimsum is in a rush and will leave you if no order is made quick. The dining area is messy and in disarray. The bathroom is unclean and smells terribly.
The food is okay, but i wouldnt go out of my way to eat here again. I had much better tasting food at a self-serve buffet. Was really disappointed.
I was there visiting while in port for a cruise and accidentally left a pair prescription sunglasses at the restaurant. I didnt notice that they were missing until the next day when we were already back in Seattle. Thankfully, the staff at the restaurant found them and sent them to my home address right away. That was very much appreciated!!
Everything is clean and nice. Good food, fast service
Best Chinese food I ve had!
The food was amazing!!!The pork dumplings, chefs kiss!!! The restaurant is beautiful!!!
Food was good and hot. Service was EXCELLENT. Waitresses are attentive and work hard.
Excellent food. Quick and friendly service. Authentic Southern Chinese dishes.
Kinda dated, reminds me of the 80s and 90s sit down Chinese restaurants.
1 Star is given for the delicious food only Otherwise there would be 0 Star Mainly because of the extreme poor services: 1 Request for Jasmine tea A lady gave you Pu er Tea and assured you that it was Jasmine Tea. (clearly she knew that she was wrong but never felt sorry, she was just lazy to change tea for you) Be careful she always fools the locals who lack knowledge about Chinese food (And sorry that you met me experienced foodie who came from Hong Kong) 2 Long waiting time to take order A waitress helped us twice to find another waiter to take an order (which is appreciated for her help as she was not allowed to take order) After 20 MINUTES, a man finally came here to take order 3 Poor attitudes We decided not to take more orders as there would be at least extra 20 minutes cooking time. And guess what the waiter responded? He immediately turned around & sneered Great! You better not to order (OMG What a shame of Chinese ) But thinking of one friendly waitress who is called Rose and all hardworking chefs, I still gave 15% tips. (How silly I am )
You need to fill water by yourself, you need to go out and find someone to help you take order, you need to expect they alway avoid eye contact with you because they think they are busy I don t feel like I am a customer to them but an enemy of the staff. I don t know what happened to them Although you are polite to them, you can still feel their anger towards their jobs. For sure, the food there is tasty but poor service can be fatal to your business
I had high hopes for this restaurant, seen it the day before. Had bad experience at Chubby Dim Sum. Well this place is no better. Staff couldn t communicate that there was a private party. They just said it was for big parties only. I asked to speak to manager who spoke well English. I asked why was he turning away customers. He got offended and told me he didn t need my business. Screw this place don t come here cause they don t need the business. They only cater to big parties.
Very good food and service. Heard a man getting mad at nothing and being extremely rude to everyone and talking down to manager. Manager stood up for his staff and said if youre going to treat me and my staff rude we dont need your business the rude man hit him I think and ran away. He handled it so well and so professional.
A classic
Probably the best dim sum around (including the Vancouver area). Delicious, fresh, accommodating, quick. No complaints
Food is good, but very very expensive.
Very tasty Chinese food. Recommend the five spice sizzling chicken along with the fried rice. Good food and good service.
It was super delicious, after I was stuffed with all of the amazing food. Officially my favourite restaurant!
Back here for the first time in 50 years. Hasnt changed a bit, still as good as ever. Dim Sum was delicious and reasonable cost. Won Ton soup was delicious.
Someone (like wait staff or the host) should attempt to explain the concept and the food choices to novice customers. We were led to a table, but not explained the concept of various dim sum carts being pushed around the restaurant from which we should order, or how the price would work. We finally flagged someone down and asked for a menu, still no explanation. Then no one came to take our order. We were VERY confused! Ultimately, the dim sum we accidentally ordered was good. The spring rolls were overcooked and almost hard inside. The service was non-existent, The wait staff spoke very limited English (insufficient to explain the concept even, barely enough to explain what what inside each dim sum). The atmosphere was traditional of an upscale Chinese restaurant. We were disappointed when we left and would not recommend this place to the uninitiated in Chinese (dim sum) restaurants (we did not consider ourselves uninitiated when we walked in, but maybe that was our naiveté!)
best restaurant in town the area is lovely the people are so nice and the food is scrumptious only bad thing is it gets really busy sometimes but that is just because it is so good
Avoid this place for an evening meal. Chicken I received was like the spam version of chicken, I think it was out of a tin. I didnt eat the main and server asked why, I told him it was inedible and not what I ordered and he just said OK and walked off. Their rice was also inedible.
We visit Victoria from up island at least once a year, but this was our first dim sum experience! It was a little confusing, a bit overwhelming, and I learned that I love shrimp toast, all the dumplings and I still cant handle chopsticks with any dexterity. I cant wait to go back
Ordered deep fried chicken balls. They were over cooked and there were deep fried prawns mixed in within my food. Good thing I am not allergic. Previously that week ordered chop suey and it was celery and onion with a couple pieces of carrot shavings. This place used to be so good, not so much. Very sad
Im not sure what they brought, but it wasnt flank steak hot pot. It was good, but it was a braised short rib in gravy. Also, not a fan of the dim sum. Lacked flavor and variety. All shrimp stuffed dumplings. The service was slow as well.
Be careful for those people with accessibility needs. There is no elevator to the second floor and all they have are stairs!
Delicious food and the stairs to go up prepared me to eat even more!
Awesome Dim sum will definitely be back. Very friendly servers.. Food
