By far, my favorite sushi bar in Victoria! I've been coming here for over 12 years, and it has always been the freshest and highest qualify fish and I love the staff! My mouth is watering thinking about it, so I think I'll go ahead and place my order now!
A hidden gem ( next to Beaver Tails ) in downtown Victoria. Get reservations, as this place is very busy! Cheerful staff that are having a good time. I must have seen at least 5 pickup orders during my meal, as it was packed. Recommended by locals for very good reason! Fantastic quality, excellent presentation, and one of the best neighbourhood restaurants. Bbq Unagi is so good!
This small yet quaint sushi restaurant is tucked away on Broughton St in Victoria. They only have wild salmon! Yeah! Prices are reasonable and plenty of people came in to get their takeout. I highly recommend this eatery if you find yourself in Victoria and craving sushi!
I visited this place when it first opened and have returned several times since. Unfortunately, my impressions have remained unchanged. The chirashi don, while well-presented, didn't taste particularly fresh—some of the fish had a rather fishy flavor. The shrimp was overly chewy, almost like rubber, and the tamago was disappointingly squishy and watery. Rice also didn't taste fresh. Service was minimal at best. I’ve heard positive things about their lunch teriyaki, so it seems their cooked dishes might be worth trying, but based on my experience, the sushi could use some improvement.
Amazing sushi restaurant. Food was amazing and service was also great.
My work colleague rants and raves of this place all the time and had been bugging me to go all these months. I finally did somewhat reluctantly; I had a one-time unpleasant experience eating here with my dad when I was 16 (my older daughter is currently this age just to give you a time stamp) and had bad diarrhea afterwards, nearly missing my first Young Drivers appointment back in the day. 🙅🏻♀️ Food quality is okay. The sashimi is fresh but not that huge deal that it melts in your mouth and you must go here now that I read in other reviews. 🤔 As you can see, the presentation for their large assorted sashimi is very lacking; 15 pieces yes, but of very limited type and for the price? Not a good value to the eye of a sashimi connoisseur. My beef teriyaki was overcooked. They asked how I liked it done, I replied medium rare, but dish was medium borderline well done. Service was there but quite slow; we were given the bill but took a very, very long time for them to come back for the POS. I mean, why bring the bill if you're not ready to accept payment right then and there, and made to wait? 🤷🏻♀️ No stomach upset this visit which is a plus but even ordering their two biggest entrees, I left the place hungry still and underwhelmed. I feel this place is overhyped, would only go back here with accompaniment, and would most likely order something completely else on the menu. 🙎🏻♀️
I honestly think 3 stars is really generous. I had high hopes based on the past reviews, but its not that good. You need to make a reservation since it's not that big, and the service is slow and indifferent at best. I think we waited for more than 45 minutes for our food and it didn't arrive at the same time. Im thinking take out orders were given priority. The sushi was fine, but the rice was cold. The salmon and new york steak teriyaki were also just okay and served almost western style. The beef noddle soup was bland and didnt taste like anything. Honestly, there are better Japanese restaurants nearby, so please avoid this one.
Clean and small place to eat. Staffs looked professional at what they are doing. The shrimp tempura was great. Crispy outside and soft inside. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. I got the beef and shrimp teriyaki but it was barely anything.. it tasted good but 20 dollars for that ( the photo) is quite overpriced I think.
Fantastic sushi, very reasonably priced. Especially the scallop rolls are outstanding! Kid-friendliness: They dont have high chairs, but my two-year-old was able to sit on the bench. Despite that, the staff were very friendly toward her.
Ive been going here for 25+ years, the food is always delicious. I cant stay away!! Dietary restrictions: Gluten friendly
Best tuna tataki in Victoria ,shrimp sunomono salad and Ricky roll and Lily is the best waitress.
Trust me when I say, as someone who has lived in Japan and been to many Japanese restaurants in major cities across the world that, this place is not up to par. The food is not cooked correctly.
This place is a scam that only white people would like because it is not even remotely related to Japanese food. It s fast food level packaged as the real deal to scam people $25 for a salmon don that was a HUGE bowl of unseasoned white rice (Chinese rice btw) with some unfresh pieces of fish they call don . There was so much cheap rice in there and no seasoning it could have been a portion for a family of 5.
The food is overpriced and bland. Ordered teriyaki chicken don. For $20 dollars, I got food court chicken and way out-of-portion large amount of hardened rice.
Tourist trap
Gone here my whole life at least once a month best restaurant in the city!
Wonderful staff who remembered me when I took a year off for parental leave. Food is the best balance of good quality and good price, and its a nice cozy dining atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone.
Great food and a bunch Gluten free options. Their Japanese GF beer was excellent
Been my favorite Sushi place in Victoria for over 15 years, they rarely miss. Spicy Salmon and spicy tuna with avacado are my go to dishes, and are in fact the dishes which turned me into a Sushi lover so many years ago.
Been coming here for years. Great food, love the tuna tataki & sushi rolls. Service is always excellent. Will continue to come here and recommend it to others for years to come.
Ate Rainbow sushi in 2015 I still remember it till now Surprised to find such a delicious sushi restaurant in North America
Great sushi experience! We love this place.
Great friendly place
Absolutely love this place. Great ambiance and sushi are great. The tuna steaks is simply delicious.
Delicious and fresh at a really good price point. Tried a lot of different sashimi and nigiri and it was all amazing. Good, straightforward service.
Ebizo has high quality, fresh, and relatively inexpensive Japanese food. Its a great place to stop for lunch.
I still feel this is the best sushi house in Victoria. Service was seamless. Everything was fresh and well prepared. Food : 5/5
Amazing Sushi and tempura the best in Victoria BC
The food is so good. Make a reservation or come when they just open up. Or else you might not get a table! Definitely worth the effort to get in early!
FAST and QUALITY authentic Japanese sushi stop. I felt the prices were LOW for how wonderful it was.
Glorious, fresh and tasty sushi! The space is so cozy, the staff is delightful. I highly recommend it!
Always fantastic service and food! One of the originals Food
Best sushi in Victoria
First time at this place and I loved it! Big portions, fast and non-invasive service, and fresh, well-made sushi. Mid-level prices for high quality food. Definitely will be back again.
Really authentic restaurant. The tuna nigiri Was probably one of the best i never had. The texture and the taste was fantastic! The rolls were really delicious. When i get the Chance - i will defenitely come back!
Went last week for lunch. Seems they pay attention to the regulars there more than first timers . Sushi / Negitori quite small, tempura ok but getting extra water took some time. Gave it a try but won t be back.
Food for 6: $400ish includes alcohol Pros: easy to find, paid parkade close by, menu selection is your typical sushi place. Service was fast. Prices are fair. Cons: cooked kitchen dishes came out late into the meal. Food for thought: this restaurant has serve the local neighborhood well. It has a fan following and gets busy fast. Reservation is recommended or come early.
Absolutely wonderful. My first visit and I will go back.
Great little restaurant in every way:)
Very enjoyable. Staff was friendly and attentive.
Very cozy and warm venue, delicious sushi (they make the salmon and tuna maki the way it should be ) and wonderful chefs and servers They need reservation but if you are lucky enough you will get a seat even without (we just saw it and went in and they were nice to seat us even without reservation)
Best sushi in town for many years!
Delicious! The food & service was outstanding! We enjoyed the cone, sunomono salad & split the tempura chicken & vegetables Will be sure to visit again!
It did not meet our expectations. This is not the perfect place for soup, it taste like water with soya sauce. Needs improvement with the quality of food with very small serving. Great service tho.
The service and the food was amazing. Been going there for years and it never disappoints. My sister says its the best tuna tataki in town!
Delicious food & great service! The only downside is that I got too full too fast. Parking: There is some street parking, but th parkade is only half a block away.
Absolutely beautiful place, their chef is one of the best in the world, absolutely bomb meal
I have eaten at many sushi restaurants and this one definitely places among the very best. The fish was so fresh with a buttery texture, the green tea refreshing and well-presented, the service was excellent and the prices were good. If I lived here I would eat here at least once per week. Highly recommended!
Best sushi we have ever had!! Buttery avocado, crispy unagi, and the most fresh and flavourful sashimi we have ever tasted. The server was also very friendly and personable. Would recommend the toro nigiri (albacore tuna belly) as the star of our meal. Will absolutely be back next time we are in Victoria!
This place is an absolute gem! Prices are reasonable, portions are good, service is excellent! I absolutely recommend to all sushi lovers in the Victoria area!!
We had an excellent experience, with friendly staff, great food and honest prices.
It s just the fast food, even not as good as the fast food and quite pricy, which cost me almost 20 dollars for just a chicken don /The restaurant looks like an authentic Japanese restaurant but the food is totally western.
Make a reservation, because the fact that our reserved group of 6 (the max theyll reserve for) went on a Tuesday evening and the place was just packed, says it all. Really good food; really good service. If you love sushi, do not miss this opportunity. And if you have celiac disease, just ask for gluten-free options and theyll have you covered. I went there with my gluten-free Meetup and it was excellent. Reasonable prices too, considering the times we live in. A great date-night idea in the heart of downtown. Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie-only choices. Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options including soy sauce available.
Trusted food for decades
Best salmon sushi Ive ever had, very nice people and the service was exceptional.
The best sushi I ve had
Favourite sushi bar in Victoria. Great location to walk to if you re downtown, near great shops off government street. Service is always excellent. The atmosphere is quiet and a great layout, not a huge place so at peak times you may have to wait for a table. I ve purchased takeout as well and quality is still superior to other sushi takeout. A favourite place of mine for lunch. The food is top notch, always peak freshness, excellent presentation as well.
Best sushi in Victoria hands down.
Best sushi restaurant
Fantastic food. Big portions . Server was extremely helpful helping to pick gluten free options for this Celiac girl. Friendly, fast service even tho the place was at full capacity. Definitely Ill be back and highly revomend Dietary restrictions: Excellent for gluten free options
Some of the best sushi Ive ever had. Highly recommended
Excellent place, exce
Having read glowing reviews about this Japanese restaurant in Victoria, I was excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The first challenge was the restaurants small size, resulting in a wait for a table during lunchtime. Once seated, we encountered delays in receiving service, which significantly impacted our overall dining experience. We opted for straightforward menu items, hoping for a quick lunch as a lot of time was lost in the wait for a table. I chose the Chicken Teriyaki Don, but to my dismay, it turned out to be rather dry, lacking the expected teriyaki sauce. On the other hand, my dining companions Beef Teriyaki arrived drowning in an overwhelming amount of teriyaki sauce, creating an extreme imbalance between the two dishes. Regrettably, the service was quite slow, and it took a notable 20 minutes for our orders to reach the table. Additionally, our water glasses remained unfilled throughout the wait. When my companion requested a fork due to the excessive sauce on his plate, it proved to be a significant challenge to capture the attention of a member of the wait staff to receive one. In summary, I must admit that the overall dining experience fell short of my expectations. The service and delivery times left much to be desired, and the inconsistency in the preparation of the dishes was disappointing. Consequently, my search continues for a reliable and satisfying Japanese restaurant in the area.
Love this place! Great food and location with extremely efficient and friendly staff!
A favourite of locals!
Great authentic style Japanese sushi!
It was such a great atmosphere and amazing service. Really good authentic sushi
Great lunch
Best traditional style sushi in the city, hands down.
Best Japanese food in Victoria.
I have been going to this restaurant for almost twenty years. The staff is always pleasant and remembers everybody names. The food is excellent. Always have a lovely time there with my family.
Best sushi and best service in Victoria
Can t comment on the food since we didn t end up eating here. We were told they may not be open until their listed closing time (8pm) due to it being a quiet Tuesday night . Arrived at 7:00-7:15pm and they were already closed. Shame as we really looked forward to eating here.
Decent food but excellent service and pleasant atmosphere. All the food was fresh and delicious I only had a selection of nigiri. Food
Best sushi restaurant in Victoria!
Ebizo Japanese Restaurant is located at 604 Broughton St, Victoria, BC V8W 1X7, Canada. Salmon sushi is delicious made from wild salmon with attractive red colored meat fish.
Price/quality ratio is outstanding! Highly recommended Food
One of my favorite sushi places...and the staff have been there for decades
Our families ride or die restaurant. Everyones first choice for birthdays and special occasions. The team is amazing and the sushi is the best in the city by far!
Im picky when it comes to sushi. I tried a few nigiris here, and I found the rice too tightly squeezed, giving the rice hard and dense texture. Nigiri rice should be gently shaped so that the granules barely hold together. It should fall apart when chewed. Their rice was too dense and did not fall apart. Its more like rice ball than a nigiri. As for the neta, the Hotate was nice and fresh, but the toro and ebi were on the fishy side. Chopped scallop was fresh and had nice texture, but the black pepper they added was overpowering.
Ebizo is the best sushi in Victoria but their customer experience still suffers in comparison to the experience in Japan. Seafood is really solid, tempura was under-done. Last call for food is 7:30 pm which is not reasonable. I guess thats a Victoria issue, but it still feels bad, trying to have an extended night out (and paying the associated premium for it).
Amazing Sushi
I have been going to this place for the last 25 years. Today was the first time in like 5 years. Management seemed to have changed. The miso soup was bland and needs more taste but the BC roll was carefully prepared with avocado and it was delicious. Need to come back again to really assess what changed.
Best sushi in Victoria! Fantastic hospitality, atmosphere, and food. Everything was priced well and the staff were polite. The fish was fresh and well coloured, and tasted fantastic raw and cooked. Id have to call this the best sushi in Downtown Victoria, and I encourage any sushi lover to try it out.
Great food and service. Sashimi was fantastic.
Always good food I ordered veggie temp tuna and spicy salmon avo roll Tuna roll was the best of all three Tempura batter was thin and crispy but smelled old oil
Impressed with the quality of the fish that I had. Sushi chefs were professional and engaging. I was happy to pair my wonderful meal with Orion Okanawin beer. Slightly malty notes paired well with the Ikura and Uni. I look forward to sampling some sake next time. Kanpai!
Best little sushi joint in town, awesome staff and atmosphere. Amazing fresh sushi. Well worth the visit
I was looking for a great sushi restaurant but instead I ended up here. :( This is what they call beef teriyaki and it was $20 a plate! It came with miso soup and rice but I didnt eat anything but the vegetables. At least the waiter took it off the bill. I would NOT try this one again
Best Japanese restaurant in Victoria! Essential!
If I could rate it 10 out of 10 or 100 out of 100 I would. The quality of the sushi is top notch along with the sushi chefs who do an amazing job. The team at Ebizo always makes you feel welcome and part of the family.
Best sushi in victoria. Ive been going here for years. Great service and great prices.
Excellent service affordable pricing as well as traditional
Tasty and fresh
Best sushi place in Victoria, friendly stuff and No.1 Sashimi cone in my life. Reasonable price
Fabulous food, fabulous service, nice staff. Would 100% go back.
Very very good sushi. Small cozy place, great service.
We have been coming here for 15 years. It was our first date place and we love it. Service is great. Food is amazing. Recommend making reservations.
Fantastic authentic Japanese sushi, and I was really surprised that the bill was relatively modest. Book ahead.
Far and away the best sushi in Victoria! The menu selection, quality of ingredients, and attention to detail at Ebizo never fails to impress me. The handmade nigiri and buttery smooth sashimi is out of this world. There are also more exotic dishes for the adventurous types - only place Ive been to in Victoria that has natto on the menu! A great date night spot, Ebizo is within walking distance of most of the attractions in downtown Vic. Built into a heritage building in the heart of Old Town, this place is cozy, with the right balance of traditional and casual. It does tend to fill up fairly quickly so make sure to arrive early. Pros: +Delicious food +Excellent quality +Great selection +Fairly priced +Good date night atmosphere Cons: n/a
Wonderful hole in the wall. Very attentive staff and great food.
The staff was all nice and it was super busy when we walked in. The food was good, especially the vegetable tempura, but even after the restaurant was no longer busy it took way longer than it should have to get our sushi. There was almost a 45 minute gap between our tempura and the sushi. Besides that everything else was great.
Top quality fish and sushi
Love it. Food was great and reasonable cost. Have a big Okinawa beer.
Great place. Great staff. Incredible food. Outstanding experience of japanese food dumplings are exquisite.
The sashimi melts like butter....if you love sashimi go here...NOW.This is a small place and very popular. Use Google to see when it is busiest if you are not keen to wait. My only negative is during warm weather it can be a bit warm.
Best sushi in Victoria. All ingredients are top quality with a Noticeable difference in taste and freshness. Small place with a good atmosphere. Experienced chef staff. Highly recommend
Can t comment on the quality of their food, but their service was terrible enough for me to leave a google review. Was greeted by a question asking how many people (which I answered 3), immediately followed by a comment long wait! . When I asked politely about the expected wait time, I was replied with another disgruntled answer don t know. but they (3 nice ladies ahead of us) were here first then just walked away.
Perfection
Very high quality and delicious Sushi, some of the best Ive had in BC.
Always fresh and the saba is the best sashimi! Friendly staff and they always remember you. Authentic Japanese !
Some food are good and fresh but some not so. Something in details are strange to Japanese cuisine standard. One waitress is good but some serviced badly. It looks a Chinese operated Japanese restaurant.
I ve reviewed Ebizo previously and just wanted to update. This place is still the BEST place on Vancouver Island for sushi and tataki! Great staff and atmosphere.
Different owner, all the goods are gone. The server lied to us when he didnt have a kind of beer we ordered. He brought a different beer to us without saying anything. We ordered another beer from a different lady, and she just said the beer was not what we ordered because the one we ordered was sold out. Anyways, Even apart from this, I really see this place is not as same as a few years ago anymore. The food changed completely. I rather get sushi from a supermarket. Its really sad because it used to be my favourite sushi place in town.
Fantastic sashimi. Melts in your mouth. Definitely worth the visit !
I went and ordered a chirashi don. It was $25, and the portion size was extortionate. Not only that, but the actual fish itself was sour, old and had no taste. It was clear that the fish was frozen, it was ice cold and still wet. The shrimp was sour, and my stomach still feels weird some hours after eating. I believe the only reason this place is open is because of the tourists. Best bet is to go to Sen Sushi.
Cold sushi rice? I visited during my work trip to Victoria. I had high hopes based on reviews. The quality of the fish and service was great, however, the sushi rice for both my maki and nigiri was terrible. It was cold and hard, and very small (for the nigiri). It honesty seemed like, instead of using freshly cooked rice for each piece of nigiri, that they were using premade little balls/pads if rice made the night before and stored in the fridge. Definitely would not go back if this is the quality of rice being used.
This is hands down my favourite sushi restaurant in Victoria! Lily is the best. She always serves me and my family when we come. Their quality of food and service is always up to par and consistent.
Great food
Best tuna tataki, shrimp sunomono, Ricky roll and spicy tuna avocado roll in the city!!!
Not impressed. Nigiri was mediocre at best, and Ive honestly had better from a supermarket deli. Got the chefs selection for $26 and veggie tempura for $10. Three tiny nigiri, one scallop, one hamachi and one tuna. The roll was cucumber - flavorless. The small bite sized nigiri were totally disappointing. The tempura was greasy and not thoroughly cooked - and had carrots?? (still crunchy too... wth) batter fell off, and squash / pumpkin piece was massive and awkward. Saishi de siago. First and last time Im going to Ebizo.
Best sushi in Victoria! If you like premium sashimi this is the place to hit up. The venison and salmon tataki are both delicious. Toro was velvety, like butter.
Bomb sushi and nice sitting space inside! Thank you Vegetarian options: They have avocado roll, sweet yam roll, oshinko roll, and miso soup - to name a few Food : 5/5 |
Some of the best sushi I ve had in downtown Victoria. My new go to!
It didnt feel particularly delicious and the portion was very small. The fish ingredients were very fresh. Average presentation
Best place to go! Been going for over 10 years and have never once been disappointed! Favourite sushi restaurant in Victoria!
This place is just amazing
gross
This is a popular place in Vancouver where you can enjoy Japanese food. Japanese international students may also work part-time. Vancouver is a place where there arent many people who can speak Japanese, so its helpful to have a shop where you can communicate in Japanese, and its also a place where you can feel a sense of relaxation. Although some of the dishes have a slightly Canadian original feel to them rather than pure Japanese food, we recommend this restaurant as you can enjoy Japanese food at a relatively reasonable price.
Takeout from Ebizo: uni sashimi, Alanna cone, smoked duck, and tsunomono. The best.
Authentic sushi at a great prize. Cozy environment and lovely staff. A must when youre downtown Victoria!
Friendly staff always quick service. Best tataki and sushi in Victoria- thanks
Our favourite place for sushi in Victoria
Best in town!
This is my favourite restaurant in Victoria. Im a born and raised 52 year old fellow and I couldnt recommend this place any higher.
My favorite sushi spot in Victoria! Consistently high quality rolls and great service.
Poor food not fresh I tried many sushi places and love sushi but this one was really bad
Always amazing food and people! Our favourite sushi in Vic by far.
Blaming Covid for no dine in service is such bad customer service. There are other great places I suggest people try elsewhere.
Top Japanese restaurant in Victoria
Great food. Great prices.
The BEST sushi in town, just dont tell anyone - its hard enough to get a table! (Assuming they do dine-in again.)
I give this an one star because the food is really just meh. All rolls have more cucumbers than rice.(I did not order a cucumber roll) If you really want to see what actually sushi is, avoid this place if possible. Go take a ferry and go to Vancouver for sushi. EVEN TnT is better. They also charge me 2 dollars for green tea. Green tea is almost always complimentary in most Japanese restaurant.
Still so good! I was lucky enough to go there often, 10 years ago. Here I am again on vacation in Victoria and I had the chance to return there. As always, Excellent service! Excellent sushi! The same wonderful team to serve us! We feel at home! Tuna Tataki, Vegetable tempura, Dynamite roll and Negitoro roll, are just some of the delights to eat there!
Best Sushi! Great service! So happy they are open for inside dining again!
Best chopped scallop cone in the island. Also other delicious things!
Very busy spot with Amazing food and service, highly recommend.
Consistently the best sushi restaurant in Victoria. I recommend making a reservation as it is almost always full.
Always the best in town. No one gets a 5 but these guys do. I have been eating here for almost 20 years and it still my favorite place for sushi.
Great sushi nice quiet atmosphere.
I have no patience for false advertising to get you in the door. Menu on the outside of restaurant clearly shows the udon soup is $14.50. You get inside and sit down and the same soup is $17!! Explanation is that that is the lunch price, not dinner price. On the outside menu this is NOT clear. We got up and left. Can not support misleading tactic like this. Add to it is how the server suggested to sit us at the worst table in there when we walked in... clearly saving the better seats for a bigger group or another customer. The food may be amazing but you lost us because of this.
Very delicious. Had the 10pc assorted sashimi and the chirashi don. Seafood was very fresh tasting and fairly cut, would not disappoint if you like sashimis. Have yet to try their other items!
Food was great and atmosphere was nice. However when we arrived early for our reservation the waitress said your reservation was 7:30 and you are Early so its not ready yet with a very belittling tone. After we were seated she was busy socializing with different tables and took a long time to come to take our orders. Will not come back again due to the waitress selection of customers she chooses to interact with .
Best sushi in town for nearly 25 years though I probably shouldnt say that because its ALREADY difficult enough to get a table!
Fresh and delicious!
Easily the best sushi spot in Victoria. Khan is an fantastic sushi chef and always delivers an amazing meal
I absolutely love this place! The most wonderful team serving the best sushi in town. Every visit exceeds my already high expectations. The hot towels never disappoint either. Thank you Ebizo!
Good
Our favourite sushi in Victoria!! High quality and great price. Always yummy
Best sushi & great service
Love Ebizo, sushi is the best and so are the staff
Finally. They re-opened this week. Ive missed them so much!!!The best Japanese restaurant in Victoria.Cones are sooo good!!
Best sushi in Victoria! I have been coming here for years and the staff has remained the same. Quality, consistency, freshness never wavers. Ten out ten every single time!
Ebizo is the best. Top of the line sushi every time. Not just great most of the time but every time. See you again very soon.
so so so wonderful The only one I will come again in Victoria
Excellent as always, great quality ,fair prices. #1 in my books!
Theyve taken the care to make it a truly great spot.
Great place. Not terrible prices, but could be better.
Good quality sushi. Dont eat too much milk/butter fish.
This place is special. Im coming back and bringing friends
Amazing sushi! Went back ten years later, same great staff, same amazing sushi!
Great and fresh foods, small but busy, you better make a reservation:)
