OMG, a little slice of Montreal, placed into Victoria. Stepping into this place brought me right back to the greasy spoons in Montreal. Deux halle dressed, patate, pepsi. Tastes just like it should. Congrats on keeping it going for so long.

The best poutine in Victoria. As a Montrealer living in Victoria, I ve tried many and this is authentic.

Used to come regularly 10 years ago when I lived in the area & it was always amazing. Now, it s hit or miss depending on the freshness of the fries & oil. I ve gotten some hard, cold, dark brown fries recently. When it s good, it s great. When it s not it s not.

The gravy was outstanding! We had fries and gravy and a cheeseburger. Fries where pretty good but hamburger wasn t great. I agree with other posts on the cleanliness of the restaurant. And the service. Wanted to something different as l aunthenrique which is our favourite place was closed.

This place is the best place for poutine and a steamie (steamed hot dog) around. The guys who work at this place are friendly helpful and hilarious. The food is wicked. No one talks here because everyone is stuffing themselves with glorious poutine. Theres also a ton of varieties of poutine, this isnt your typical cheese curds and gravy (unless youre into that because the classic here is prime), but stuffed with different combos of meats and veggies. Also you might think you dont want a steamed hotdog but get one, they are cheap and get the works you wont be sad. Someone on here said the bathroom was nasty but the bathroom is fine. Its clean and has soap and paper towels. In Victoria Im just thankful it has a bathroom at all.

I ordered takeout from this place, but the experience was disappointing from the start. The staff seemed uninterested and almost annoyed to be working. When I got home, I was met with a box of burnt, overcooked, and soggy fries. Safe to say, I won t be returning anytime soon.

Best poutine in the city.

Unfortunately the oil was old and dirty, then the fries were burnt. The fries made the meal acrid, bitter and inedible. Its such a shame when a good recipe and decent ingredients are ruined by poor kitchen management. Hopefully it was just a fluke that the oil wasnt changed on time, or the owner (if they arent always around), will be able to make sure that oil schedules are kept to!

The guy at the cashier with the beard wasnt friendly at all! Almost didnt order and walk out the door. The restaurant looks like it hasnt been cleaned in years so eating the food was kind of sketchy, hope I dont get sick! The protein tasted okay but the french fries was like mashed potatoes. Most likely wont go back!

Start by saying Ive had a lot of poutine. Most which have been in the QC. Alot of places do a good job but miss a few key points. La Belle Patate does not miss any. In my opinion. The gravy is on point 5/5 The curds are right 5/5 (taste and string) Them fries is good boys 5/5 (right cut and cook) If you want the real deal or introduce someone to a real authentic poutine, then this is the only place I would recommend.

A real Quebecer who settled here and makes local poutine. We are delighted after 6 months on the road without seeing a menu like that!! Bravo, its worth the detour!

This (as far as I know) the only place in Victoria with spruce beer, and it is excellent! The food is great too! Would recommend the supreme poutine and smoked poutine

AWESOME! One of the most interesting eating joints Ive ever been to. Their poutine has one of the nicest flavors in the gravy Ive ever had - on Wednesdays and Saturdays they have a BBQ version of the gravy that is very different; mildly BBQ, not full on BBQ sauce - definitely worth trying. I had one of their burgers too. Nicely toasted on the grill bun and some of the best grilled onions anywhere. A top notch place to have great experience with food you wont find anywhere else. (Dont forget to have a Spruce Beer!) Definitely two thumbs up for Matti and his crew!

The service was very friendly and we loved the putine! Great quality and not expensive It is basically take-out. You can sit at small tables near the parking lot but its off a busy street. We enjoyed eating outside even though it was a bit noisy. Highly recommend if you want a good putine.

We went in for lunch and it was fantastic! The meat lovers was amazing. The perfect lunch. Its was so filling it made it hard to get anything done in the afternoon, but totally worth it!

I had my birthday lunch there today. Maddy is an insane poutinier, but thats not all, you have to try a Belle burger. Its 17 bucks, but its worth every penny, if not more. You cant call yourself a burger connoisseur if you have never tried this burger. Food

So I called at 8:50 they close at 9 asked if I could order a large poutine with hamburger onions and jalapeños for pick up. No problems they said see you when you get here. Now never been too Montreal but I m assuming because the owner is that this is legit. Huge portion great flavour. The only thing better was the customer service second to none. Perfect piece of Quebec in BC. My husband was impressed and he is from the Gaspe so this is the highest compliment. We found this gem after we found the intended restaurant was closed and we are happy we did. The poutine was on our top 5. And we are both poutine addicts. Thank you again Mathieu.... Great food everytime!

Although it is clear the goal is not to have customers dine in, this place could really benefit from improving the interior experience. You re best to order ahead and pick up. I would not recommend using the bathroom. The door did not even close let alone lock and the smell that wafted from it out in to the lobby where u order was pretty much unbearable. We left a few times to get fresh air while waiting for our food. The service was ok. The guy who took our order gave us attitude when we didn t know the drill but the food itself was amazing. The quality of the ingredients was apparent in every bite and the burgers were just as good as the poutine. I would highly recommend trying the food here but get it to go.

A simple hole in the wall with an incredible reputation that held up for me. I went with my sister and we shared a loaded hot dog and an order of poutine with a spruce beer to wash it down. The food was terrific and the owner was a delight. He talked me into try to spruce beer soda and it was so yummy that I took a bottle to go for my husband to try. I ll definitely be back to this great place.

Ive eaten poutine everywhere I go. Even the other authentic Montreal restaurants and nothing even comes remotely close to this poutine. It is untouchable and undisputed.

For a restaurant that may look like it does, it doesnt mean they dont cook and serve excellent food. Keep an eye out for these gems. You dont know until you try, some of the best poutine in town.

Id been meaning to try this place for longer than I can remember, and upon finally stopping in, I wish Id done so much sooner. Having seen La Bella Patate recommended countless times, it lived up to the hype completely. The staff were quite friendly, creating a relaxed atmosphere, and the food was great. I ordered a small classic poutine and a spruce beer (if youre on the fence, try the beer) and look forward to returning in order to try a hotdog next. Overall this is a very fairly priced and tasty gem in Esquimalt. Solid 10/10.

Awesome poutine and burgers. I love spicy food, so I tried the Charlie special, and it was an instant hit that ill definitely come back for. Lots of great poutine options to try. Would recommend! Parking: The only parking is limited to street parking, the businesses next door do not allow parking for Belle Patate customers.

The poutine was delicious. One side note they do have a pay phone in case you need to call someone in 80 s.

I highly encourage supporting this local business! The poutine options are great. I personally enjoy the loaded steamie along with fries & gravy. Make sure you get their in-house made Spruce Beer (a French Canadian pop). So yummy!! The owner has always been so welcoming to us :) Parking: There is a parking lot in-between the Barber Shop and Memorial Park (across from La Belle Patate). Or there is street parking. Kid-friendliness: My 13 yr old son has loved La Belle Patate since we moved here when he was two! We have early fond memories of getting take out and going across the street to the playground for a picnic or to enjoy the summertimes Music in the Park :)

Just kike back home a small.guy doing great yhings with a Québécois twist helping kids gets thier first jobs too. Sponsors kids sports and always ready with a Bonjour!!!

Esquimalt legend

My kids and I really enjoy going here for a quick snack on our way home from school. Unfortunately today when we were there, we were told we could grab some ketchup packets off the counter for the kids corn dogs. Located close to the ketchup were small paper plates, I grabbed some ketchup and one small paper plate to put the ketchup on and noticed the owner staring at me across the counter. I could tell he was annoyed and asked if it was ok I was taking a paper plate. He angrily replied to ask him first before I take one next time. Totally surprised (I wasn t trying to steal a paper plate!) and left quickly. Unfortunate because we like the food there but feel uncomfortable going back there again.

Tied with Leopolds (an odd choice, I know) for the best poutine Ive found in town. Lived in Montreal for a little over a decade and consider myself somewhat of an authority on poutine. Though as the gentleman who ran this place wisely pointed out, Montreal has a lot of crumby poutine restaurants. Ever place has their own different take on poutine and nuanced versions. Leopolds has crispier fries and the gravy is much saltier. La Belle Patate reminds me more of the top tier street vendors/holes in the wall in Montreal that do poutine. Do not miss this place if youre in town or a local!

As a Quebecois, I can say the poutine is actually very good. I ll be honest though, I ordered a large and I m pretty sure I was given a small. I don t honestly understand how this is a large, I could have had 2 of them. Good food though,

My go place to as a Quebecer for poutine.. Poutine like you would have at a snack shack or a broken school bus in Quebec! Cheeses curds are in good quantity, fries are fried more than once and have the texture and dark brown color like in Quebec! It is not gastronomic, but well done home made/ retro style food. The House burger I had too was delicious. Each time I ordered take out it was steaming hot ready at the time they gave me !

Been going to La Belle Patate since 2017. Staff is really kind and helpful! Whenever I get that craving for really good poutine, La Belle Patate is always my first choice. I suggest getting the La Belle Special with a Spruce Beer to wash it all down!

Ok, this is definitely what I would classify as a greasy spoon, there s not much to say about the decor, but this is the best poutine around! And judging by the the steady stream of people in line, that s not a secret. Fresh cut fries, perfectly sautéed onions, a rich and delicious gravy, a little bacon and some chicken, yeah, the supreme was just right.

We came up to Victoria to score some of Canada s best, and we found it. Amazing staff. They were so friendly and welcoming. And the the food was delicious. Out of this world poutine!! I d drive all the way from Oregon again just to get a fix.

Every time we come over to Victoria for a visit, we make it a habit to get the original poutine at La Belle Patate! We take it to-go and enjoy the piping hot poutine at the park across the street. I love it, my kids love it and so will you. House-made fries drenched with perfectly seasoned beef gravy and cheese curds = flavour bombs in your mouth!! So consistent, so tasty; I guarantee every morsel will be devoured within minutes.

Ordered beef steak platter, and it was just 2 smash burger patties and onions and gravy and a side of fries which I upgraded to a poutine. Worst Salisbury steak I have ever had and the poutine was terrible, fries looked to be from the bottom of the basket all small burned pieces. This is supposed to be the best place in victoria for a poutine, I will tell you it is not and I will not return to this place.

I took my bf here for his birthday a few weeks ago. Hes from Quebec so the authenticity of this place was on point! The guys in the kitchen were so fun, friendly and thoughtful. We got burgers and poutine for takeout. They took the time to write Happy Birthday on the boxes. The food was also so greasy and delicious - as it should be! I highly recommend checking this place out. Well definitely be coming back! Merci!
