First time, enjoyed a great lunch with our parliament building tour.

Beautiful historic location with first class menu. Parking: No parking here. Kid-friendliness: Well behaved kids with ID ok. Wheelchair accessibility: Not sure about that as there were stairs and door sills.

great food with reasonable price which hard to find these days. I highly recommend to visit if you are in Victoria.

I have had lunch at this establishment twice in the last six weeks and in both cases, the service was very poor. The food and ambiance are good and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food however, the level of service leaves much to be desired. I believe the staff are unionized and hence zero incentive to work hard and provide good service. It s a shame because the location is very unique and the food is quite wonderful. Not sure we ll go back.

What a great experience to eat here. I never knew this place existed and I have lived here most of my life. Service was fast and super friendly, prices were really reasonable. You must make reservations and dont skip the desserts you wont regret it.

Make a reservation 2 weeks in advance. When you drink the carrot and ginger soup, you will get pieces of minced ginger, which is rich and fragrant. The Salmon Oscar has a large piece of salmon steak drizzled with white sauce, garnished with delicious shredded crab balls, asparagus, white cauliflower and fragrant rice. Its delicious. The dessert chocolate cake tasted as good as it looked on the plate. The service staff are very professional and friendly. Im surprised how the food quality of this restaurant is so good. I recommend anyone who comes to the BC Provincial Parliament Building to try this restaurant. Vegetarian options: There is an area on the menu with about 5.6 vegetarian dishes to choose from.

This is a little known place in Victoria, in the Parliament Buildings, run by the government. The walk through tight security and the basement tunnels to the dining room is an adventure in itself. The food is delicious and well priced. It is typical fancy West Coast food, a sampling of the diverse cultures here. The dining room is quant, historical. It is a real treat to eat here. Note that it is best to make reservations well in advance.

Very impressive high quality meal at a very reasonable price given the setting. The service was spot on and the food produced in a very timely manner. Well worth a visit but you have to have ID with you and book ahead on the phone.

We were surprised at how awesome the breakfast was here. We came on a Monday and walked in sans rsvp after the Legislative building tour. The food was super delicious, the portions didnt disappoint, the service was awesome and the prices were very, very reasonable! We were actually lured in because they had grilled cinnamon rolls on the menu, which I highly recommend. We wished we had tried this place sooner as it bested some of the other local food fare for us we would have been regulars everyday of our trip. :)

Food and service was excellent but the portions were small. I am not a big eater and I was hungry after finishing my meal. Portions could be larger.

I had the salmon risotto. A very small serving. My waiter Paul didnt seem to be interested in my feedback. In fact, he never inquired once about how our meal was. Unfortunately, I left hungry, very surprised at the small portions.

Going to this dining room was something that Ive wanted to do for a very long time, the room is located deep with the Legislative building (but still has windows to the outside). It feels very historic to dine in this room. The service was good, options for all, prices were reasonable, portions did not leave me feeling too full. The dining room offers weekly specials as well as the regular menu. Well done, thank you for the experience.

As another reviewer shared, its obvious that there is some discrimination going on here against Asian visitors. Our table was polite to our waitress, and yet when we asked for an extra plate, it was met with a very, very angry face. So much to the point that we felt uncomfortable to ask for anything else. We saw that there was more effort to serve the other caucasian tables around us. The service did get better as the meal progressed, but we were too traumatized already. We wont be back, and would certainly not recommend our other friends of Asian decent to come. There is some real old school discrimination going on here. The food is definitely good value here, but the portions and quality also align with the pricing.

Very short and rude on the phone when you call to make a reservation (which is required).

Unfortunately, the woman answering the phone appears to often speak rudely to potential restaurant guests. She hung up on me before I was even done asking a follow-up question after she said no for a table of two today.

My brother visiting from England said it was the best breakfast he d EVER had. I had to agree. (He never said that about my breakfasts!). Victoria s best kept secret.

The best soup rotation ever!! They have a really fun and tasty ever-changing menu of daily and weekly specials. The staff are so friendly and keep incredible composure in such a busy and fast paced environment! Highly recommend!

The Dining Room was closed when we arrived for 9 AM booked breakfast from Sydney. Noone called us or warned to let us know. Only a written note on the door. A service not acceptable for a government institution. We had a great experience here before. Very disappointing.

This used to be such a great place to have lunch but after CHEK TV did a story on it recently you can t get through on the phone to make a reservation. Very disappointing!

So, Ive always looked forward to visiting the legislative dinning with my hubby, we finally were able to make a reservation a week prior. I had booked our reservation for just 2, but obviously life happens, and things change... my toddler had to come along with us making it a total of 3 people. Our reservation was for April 12th at 11am. I got there and explained to the lady that we were now 3 as opposed to 2 the lady at the front desk was super rude and her manner of approach towards us was horrible... she was like you should have called to let us know... dont you know we are busy over here... the tone of her voice made us want to leave and I was like if this is a big deal, I ll rather just leave. I dont have an issue with her telling us all that, but she really needs to get a proper customer service training on how to approach customers as well as speak calmly to folks no matter their race.... you dont talk down on folks or make them feel stupid. Sadly, I dont remember her name. Nevertheless, the server was nice, and his service was great. Parking: we found a great spot and just had to walk less than a min to the place

Great lle hideaway - but it does require reservations a week in advance. Food was hot, delicious and inexpensive. Service was outstanding - never had to ask for a refill and my coffee was hot throughout my meal.

Enjoyed a Tea & Tour here and the tea we were served was lovely - an enormous cheese scone with jam and fresh fruit. The heritage atmosphere is cozy. With the exception of our main server, the serving staff seemed rather indifferent, not going out of their way to make it special for the group. I would return to sample more of the menu.

The food and atmosphere were stellar. The service was outstanding for the most part, however, they do have one gal there that definitely shouldn t be in the service industry. Wheelchair accessibility: My Dad is 92 and the staff really went out of their way to make it genuinely easy and comfortable for him.

I ve been there at least 3 times now each time has been a 5 stars experience for me. The pesto salmon was delicious and I m not even a cooked salmon person. The environment feels good and the service is excellent. Everything about this place feels good. I suggest calling ahead to make a reservation. :)

Its like trying to get into a top secret place, the security, xray machine, handing over your ID for a visitor tag. Wow. Once you go hru all that and follow the yellow brick road to the restaurant, it was good. The staff people were great, our server was funny and had an awesome sense of humor. The white table clothes and citton napkins was very nice. The food choices were good. Burgers, sandwiches, pasta, salads and full hot meals as well. The prices were not bad at all. Dessert was delicious as well. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free choices were made for our friend. Parking: Find a spot around the building and pay.

The staff was very nice and attentive. The first day, I had the chicken ceaser. The chicken didnt look very appealing. The second day, I had the turkey sandwich with fries. Very generous portion. The fries were cooked perfectly.

In the basement of the Peoples House, there is the cutest restaurant... the food very good and the atmosphere is a delightful throwback to a past era. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Its a lovely spot to bring your parents for a delish meal in a unique setting.

I had breakfast there a couple of days ago while visiting visiting Victoria. Both the food and service (so professional!) were very good. Prices were extremely reasonable - excellent value! I wish there were more places like that. It s nice to sit at a table with proper tablecloth and special tableware designed specially for them. It was a lovely experience.

An absolutely amazing experience.

Wonderful food, reasonable prices, and a great location. I had Scotch Eggs and Mushroom and Onion soup. The Scotch Eggs were mildly spicy, crispy on the outside, gooey yolks on the inside (the way I like them). The Mushroom Onion soup was creamy and gently spiced. Service was friendly and fast. Reservations recommended. White tablecloths and napkins. Will definitely return next time Im in town.

Great meal old school service

I called to at 9am on May 24 to try and make a reservation. Whoever worked that day (a woman) as the person to answer the phone was the rudest person I ve ever encountered in customer service. Situation: we called to ask if they had room for a group of 7. She answered like she could not be bothered uh sorry we don t, we only have a table for 4 . Alright understandable. We hang up. I call back 5 mins later to see if we could just put our name down for the 4 person table (a few of our free group decided to let the rest of us go since some of us really wanted to try) and with the most ATTITUDE the lady says I already told you: WE. DONT. HAVE. ROOM. FOR. 7. People . I reply yes I know, I just want the table for 4. She responds Yea. No. Not available . Like what the hell is wrong with her. This lady needs to realize that her attitude is simply not okay. I understand that people don t have the best days that that s alright. But you need to be able to separate your emotions and your work life, and if this is how she normally is, she should NOT be working in customer service. It was embarrassing for her and it was one of the most unpleasant interactions I ve had. Imagine being one representing the parliament and acting like this.. not a good look.

Please dont tell anyone else about this place. Its not that big and hard to get a table. Excellent value.

Finally visited here, you must reserve. Food was great and good value. Their mushroom soup was on the salty side. I just have to make a comment about their reservation system, please bring it up to the 21st century! The only way is to call ?! Can someone design an online rez system? And then, the waiting line! . Please put a sign, like a sandwich board, way at the back of the line that a reservation is needed ...not at the door, do as to not create all kinds of confusion and congestion at the door. Too many people budge to the front or wait in line for x minutes only to find you need rez. The security guys can be a bit terse, not your friendliest first face of the restaurant. But still ...come and say youve been here.

This is a real gem of an experience. Fine dining at a very reasonable price point. Silver service. Dining inside the parliament building steeped in history. The food was delicious. I recommend the steak!

Service was pretty slow, but the wait is worth it. The food is excellent and the prices are more than reasonable. Definitely get reservations ahead of time. They do not accept Discover or American Express cards for payment. This information was not available to me ahead of time. Be advised that you need to go through security screening and surrender your identification card while you eat.

This is a hidden gem in Victoria. For breakfast, the food, atmosphere, and service exceeds what you will experience at the Fairmont Empress for almost half the price. Every time I visit Victoria, I love to eat breakfast here. To get into the Parliament Building Dining Room, you have to go through an airport-like security screening, but the officers are super-friendly and fun to talk to.

I have always enjoyed going to this place but my latest experience was extremely disappointing. I believe the sitting arrangement was based on some kind of racial profiling. We were placed in a smaller room with other Asians and the table immediately outside us were also Asians. It was a hot day and we wanted to open the window that was closer to out table. We asked for permission first and the server said we could helped ourselves and so we did. She even suggested we could climb on the chair if need be. While trying, from out of no where, a manager showed up and raised her voice about how that window was permanently shut and that it was a 100 year old building etc. So, I asked for a portable fan. More voice raising and then she left. Then we tried to open another already opened window wider, she rushed in tell us that birds have flew in before with more attitude. I am proud to be Canadian and we are known to be nice people. Unfortunately, my foreign relatives had to see an ugly side. Unless u are white, I suggest you skip this place.

I had a new experience at the Houses of Parliament on Victoria Island. Breakfast was limited and luxurious, but the price was reasonable (you have to make a reservation for lunch in advance). It was such a wonderful experience and the taste was the best.

The prices are reasonable and the food is really delicious. Unlike most reviews that gave high marks to the service, I was somewhat disappointed by the cold expressions and unfriendly attitudes of the waitress and server. As soon as we entered, discrimination was clear as it was only for our table. I recommend going at least once, but if youre a foreigner, dont expect friendly service.

Amazing experience. First time going there and wont be my last. One of those gems in this city.

We heard alot about this place so we decided to try it out. Our experience was not good. We were given totally burnt out toasts and surprising thing was that they did not even apologize and not even offered to change the burnt toast. My mistake I did not take picture. The toasts was totally burnt in black color. I would never go to this place again and would not suggest anyone to go there.

What a fantastic experience! Everyone from security at the Legislature to the people who check you in are absolutely wonderful. Such a lovely dining room with delightful ambience. The food is just delicious and reasonably priced. We had the turkey/cranberry sandwich, and the smoked Montreal beef sandwich. Both were super tasty, but the Montreal beef was an explosion of flavour and done to perfection. We shared a couple of desserts which were also amazing. Our server was so sweet and very accommodating. From what we could tell, all of the wait staff were really friendly and efficient. Will definitely be back!

Great first lunch experience here! The shrimp bisque was delicious! The ceasar salad was one of the best, especially with the added shrimp (so many!!). Highly recommend coming here for a unique dining experience in a beautiful building downtown.

Loved it here, got a cosy corner for four for breakfast. Really great service (thanks Pilar!) decent food and good value. Leave enough time for the security screening if you plan to meet anyone or are on a schedule but the guys on the door are also really helpful and polite.

Yummy and affordable restaurant inside the parliament building It looks like they have different daily specials and a set lunch menu. We got a tomato bisque, this fish dish, and seafood linguine. The food was pretty good and very decently priced. It was in the low $30s for two people. The entrance is in the right side of the building and you have to go through security to get in. The restaurant itself has a historical feel (prob because it literally is historical).

This place is not widely known to the public since the location is quite difficult to find lol! But the food was sooo delicious and the prices are very cheap! Taxes are included on everything on the menu, and the service you receive is very professional and hospitable. Food was wonderful, definitely recommend.

Charming and a great experience. Excellent food very reasonable prices And much fun if you visit the legislative building. You definitely need a reservation. And use your Google and ask for directions on how to find it. It is somewhat hidden and out of the way . You must go through security and surrender a piece of government ID in order to get in and you get it back when you leave.

Who wouldnt enjoy dinner here?! Its fancy, the service makes you feel important, and you wont have to eat beans and rice for the rest of the month as the price is made for the common working person. Food is of premium quality. They serve a wicked pot of tea and fresh blueberry pie rife with lots of blueberries. I was pleased to see the fresh flowers in the table centerpiece arrangement. You will have to reserve ahead of time and go through a security check as well. This place is an absolute gift. Vegetarian options: I had black bean and quinoa burger. Im sure there may be other options but I dont remember.

As always, today, July 21st, 2022, the experience, the menu selection, the service, not to mention our blueberry pie dessert which we shared,was amazingly good! I d highly recommend this breakfast/ lunch restaurant that might be one of Victoria s best kept secrets. You are checked in through security, so bring your photo ID. Before you even eat, you wind your way through the basement corridors with painted brick and stone walls, of the Parliament buildings, going out one door and into another before arriving at the beautifully decorated Tudor style restaurant. Servers are prompt and friendly food is delicious and best of all the prices are very very reasonable. You can check the specials of the day on their website. You will need reservations about 48 hours in advance, especially during the busy tourist times.

What a great dining experience. The Leg restaurant is a must visit in Victoria. Our out of town guests joined us and they too, were totally impressed. Make a reservation and view the menu online. Service was like a 5 star hotel and the food was delicious. From start to finish everything was perfect. Great atmosphere, fantastic food, and a staff that cares about you. Its a very unique dining experience and this restaurant is like a hidden gem. The entrance can only be seen on the right hand side of the stairs facing the main building. You must wait at the door. A security guard will open the door and ask if you want to make a reservation. Afterwards, the security guards will ask everyone to provide their ID or passport (be sure to bring your ID and passport, it would be too sad not to be able to enter without them), replace your meal pass, and pass your belongings through the security gate before you go. Dining room. Walking along the road to the restaurant, you feel like you are walking in a cave. Although the restaurant is not big, it is warm and tidy. The service staff are also very good. The prices of the meals are also very reasonable and the portions are very sufficient. The small details of the key meals are not inferior to the high-end ones. Restaurant (for example: steak plate temperature, beer ice glass temperature, etc.). As for meals, I love steak and dark beer. The sandwiches are also very good, but the portions are really too big. Don t miss the desserts. The desserts are different every day. You have to tell the service staff about the desserts and they will prepare a plate. Desserts of the day are available for everyone to choose from. After finishing the dessert, it is a perfect ending. Sitting in history, enjoying delicious food and high-quality service, you can also go upstairs to visit without queuing outside .

This is a place where you can have a unique experience from the time you enter to the time you leave. Ive been here twice and the steak is the best. Coffee and dessert can be ordered additionally.

A friend brought me here to give it a try. Reservations are required. Security is tight. You need to leave your ID and be issued a number plate. The restaurant is decorated in an old style and there are many waiters. The main meals are exquisite and cheap, while the desserts are a bit more expensive.

Beautiful place for lunch and very reasonably priced. You need a reservation for sure. The roasted red pepper and tomato bisque is bursting with flavour. Highly recommend the key lime pie or the sour cream chocolate cake as well.

A hidden Gem for lunch. White table clothes, amazing food and prices that will please almost everyone. You need to be sure that the house is not in session. Reservations are recommended and you will need picture ID as well since you do go through a security check to get in. Returned again in Nov. 2022 and its definitely still 5 stars across all key measures.

I had lunch here twice so far. This is a cosy place with nice cutlery on the table. I had a cup of vegetable soup and a wrap and I was pleased with my lunch. You most likely need appointment if you would like to eat there.

To my Mom and I went for a lovely lunch. We had a lovely server Pilar. We loved our server, the decor, the food was yummy, the setting was very nice , white table cloths, a Christmas tree and Music, white china, heated plates, we enjoyed the fact that we did not feel rushed to leave. The prices were great. We have booked for 2 weeks from today so we can try another menu item.

This was so surprisingly good and well priced. My food portion was huge and so tasty. The dining room and pathway to it have a very rustic feel - you can feel the history here. I would definitely dine here again when in town!

Had an excellent breakfast dining experience. Came in early on a Wednesday and the place was practically empty so I was able to get in without reservation. The place is fairly formal setting as you would expect from a commonwealth parliament restaurant to be like. The servers are very warm and friendly and had fun conversations with the regulars. The food was okay. Had a hash. the main meal was a bit dry but this was one of the few dishes without soggy mushrooms. The eggs on top were good. The biggest surprise was the price. The prices mentioned are lower than most comparable restaurants and apparently include taxes or there are like no taxes. End of the day, its a good meal at a fantastic price and a regal touch. Get a taste of high government life for a meal

Top notch breakfast for IHOP prices. The dining room is wonderfully decorated. Skip the tea at the Empress and come here instead.

Impeccable but unpretentious little dining room found in the Victoria, BC Legislature. In a side door under the stairs and through several passageways, one arrives in this relatively small space but with open, airy window views to the gardens outside. There is good selection of a variety of unexpected collaborations of good food served in simple plates on white tablecloths. Although close together, the tables don t seem crowded. The service is understated but efficient without being stuffy or infringing. The Legislative Dining Room is a stress free interlude in a busy day. Reservations are a must.

Excellent place, I loved it. My breakfast was amazing. The waiters treat you well, they are aware that if you are missing something and the most incredible thing is the place you are in the parliament, and it is not expensive, approximately 18 dollars for food and drinks.

Not many people know about this place. Reservation only and requires id to get in. Lunch menu was good, offering lots of varieties with reasonable prices. Service was excellent.

Our second visit....first time for lunch. The food was delicious, very reasonable priced, the waitress was delightful. Special requests were accommodated. It was lovely to have white tablecloths and linen napkins at lunch.

Always a great lunch Staff are friendly and professional a wonderful time spent with my daughter and sister.

Bring picture ID, and since its the Parliament Building keep in mind security happens so dont bring a knife, scissors, etc... Reservations are highly recommended. The food is not expensive but the place is rather small and fills out fast. There isnt much of a view and it has a bit of a basement vibe but still its inside the Parliament Building!

Breakfast and lunch are served in the British Columbia Parliament Building Dining Room. We are generally open Monday to Friday, but we recommend checking the website for times and making reservations, as opening hours may change or may not be available due to council schedules. The lunch menu features representative Canadian dishes such as curry-flavored chicken salad, shrimp sandwiches, and Montreal smoked meat. The quality of the food is high and the prices are reasonable. Although this is a restaurant where members of Congress also eat, the service is friendly and doesnt feel formal. The entrance to the dining room may be a little difficult to find as it is located at the center right of the front of the building. To enter, there is a baggage check similar to that at an airport, and you will need a photo ID such as a passport or drivers license.
