Great food. We had a Asian wrap, chicken stews, and pork tonkansu. NEVER had chicken or pork so tender or moist. Would go again. Waiter was friendly.

inattentive service, our server tried to justify this by saying that because theyre a new age restaurant they don t check on guests. they tried to charge my friend for food she ordered but never received; this could have been avoided had the server checked in on us at any moment. it wasn t even busy. very expensive for decent food and okay cocktails.

Had an amazing dinner here last night. The food and service were absolutely amazing, and you really can t go wrong with anything on the menu. My only disappointment was how overcrowded and jammed in some of the seating is. At our table specifically we were sandwiched between 2 other groups and could hear their conversations clearer than ours. All around a great restaurant, would eat here again. Vegetarian options: Many Vegan and Vegetarian options throughout the menu.

Just an overall wonderful experience. I have been there twice now and the food and serve us have been consistent

I wanted to love it but the food was very mediocre and perhaps I simply ordered the wrong things but the way to my heart is through my stomach. That said I ll tell you the good and the bad things because obviously reviews are somewhat subjective. I was so excited when I saw the menu so I hope other items are better for you all. Pros: -The server was lovely and friendly and when it got busy and we had to get her attention, we never had to wait long. - The decor and vibe is very cool. I love the high ceilings and open kitchen. - my cocktail was great and very unique, my server suggested it because the menu was a bit overwhelming with lots of ingredients I d not heard of. - they take reservations. Cons: - it was uncomfortably hot. Perhaps that was just because we were close to the kitchen but I don t love feeling too warm. - It can be very loud and the tables are fairly close to each other. - the food was super disappointing. I ordered the spicy salmon tartare and it tasted like tinned salmon salad with mayo. I guess I expected more of a traditional tartare and it was really fine wee salmon pieces (blended even) and very mayo heavy and a bit on the fishy tasting side. It didn t taste like lovely fresh salmon as I d hoped for. It was far too rich to finish. I didn t find there was much spice to it. I also got the Humboldt squid thinking it would be more of an Asian style. It was almost like a tonkatsu dish though and I think squid is a nice delicate item which shouldn t be turned into a thick breaded chicken wing. It was very dry with not enough sauce for the end product. Also far too heavy and thickly breaded to enjoy. I d hoped to share the appies with my friend but she was not at all interested in them so I spent $82 for a cocktail and 1.5 dishes (couldn t finish half the salmon). I absolutely support spending more on the finer things but this was not one of them unfortunately.

I had the ahi tuna over seaweed salad and it was absolutely delicious, our server recommended it. It tasted like steak and the salad didn t taste like seaweed so I really enjoyed it. My husband had salmon he like it a lot too

The food here was phenomenal. We shared a bunch of small plates so we could try a few different things and everything was excellent. The staff were all super friendly and attentive for the whole meal. Definitely try it out of you get the chance.

As much as I wud like to give more than 3 stars but the server lady that greet and serve us had really bad manners, not only she NEVER gave us water from the get go till the end .. (it was dead quiet, whats ur excuse??) she also serve a weird and negative vibes towards us, if you forgot to take my order is one thing but being unapologetic and serving long face then side eyes look ..you need to have a reality check for ur job choices, ur in the service industry and what service did u deliver?! Other than that the F&B are good tho

Enjoyed a late lunch here after wandering downtown Victoria for a few hours. The staff were patient while we browsed the menu as we decided if thats where we wanted to dine, and were helpful in describing some of the menu items. Ultimately we sat outside on their sunny patio and ordered the Korean fried chicken. It was a great sized portion, the chicken was tender and saucy, and paired well with a side order of rice.

The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Yes you..Applebee. Every dish we tried was delicious and we will definitely be back. Dietary restrictions: I have a serious fish allergy and the staff went way beyond my expectations. They substituted every ingredient that could have been an issue and didnt make me feel like a problem.

The food is home- made and delicious! We stopped for happy hour. They have outdoor seating! We had a Bao bun, Korean chicken, and lettuce wraps. Glad we stopped by! Waitress was attentive and friendly!

Our experience was perfect, from the moment we walked in the door, to the delicious and beautifully plated food. Our initial server was fantastic, however they all help eachother out and every single person was incredibly friendly and attentive. This has been our best experience eating out in a long time. Stopped in on a whim for a late night dinner while on vacation - we LOVED Block. Dishes were inventive, staff were friendly, great drink menu (including good variety of tasty zero-proof options), and the atmosphere was upbeat. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for buzzy late night eats.

The food was good and service was warm and friendly. Unfortunately the portion sizes left a bit to be desired. I understand these types of restaurants do smaller plates, but they cut the matcha cheesecake so thinly that it collapsed when the server placed it on the table-- and not like it fell over because momentum, but the tip of the cake was so thin that there was no structural integrity. The thick end of it couldnt have been wider than 2cm. Id understand if it was a tasting menu item and was priced accordingly, but $14+tax&tip for just a few bites kinda soured the experience. If the ingredients are that expensive maybe they should change it out for something with friendlier profit margins? Or maybe they were running out so cut it smaller, but then they should have just 86d it that night. All other portions were small too and wasnt enough to share more than a few small bites (between two people), but the dessert was just insulting :( edit** Looking at other reviews with pictures, the cheesecake was an appropriate size like 9 months ago and has gotten smaller. That being said, none of the photos show one as small as the one we received. I cant stress enough that the wide end of the cake was barely thicker than my thumb

Great Japanese fusion dinner last night with my husband for a date night. Ordered the Korean Fried Chicken and flash fried shrimp among other delicious dishes. Block is a must try in Victoria. The food, staff and atmosphere are all five star. We ll be back

Went to here with a friend before a concert. First time customer, so I asked the bartender\server Chad to order for us. Absolutely delighted as course after course of some of the best food I ve had in a very long time was served us. Relaxed atmosphere, really reasonable prices for what you re getting. Would highly recommend, and will certainly eat here again when I return to Victoria.

Fantastic! Food was phenomenal, the service was excellent. Some friends surprised my partner and I with a celebration for our upcoming wedding and we came here for dinner. Our previous activity ended early and so we were a half hour early for our reservation but they accommodated us without hesitation, and we were a party of 11 so it was no small task Im sure! Service staff were always there when we needed them but were never pushy. All of the food was fantastic and there were lots of options to accommodate the various dietary restrictions of our party. My only complaint was that it got very loud very quickly but honestly that may have just been on us We will definitely be going again.

Almost a 5 star if the sauce on the Red Devil Calamari was better. The sauce tasted more like ketchup than spicy Thai , missed the mark. The Korean beef short ribs were very good. Service was quick.

Been coming here since they opened. I thought with a name like the block, it might be kind of corporate, but its a really nice place with a good atmosphere, and tasty food. I have enjoyed many a unique cocktail, and the on tap Negroni is fantastic. Well keep coming here, as the quality and service have stayed top notch. Its refreshing to see the owner in the restaurant regularly, as it makes a huge difference with consistency in a newer restaurant. Dietary restrictions: Good selection of things that are GF, but dont feel like GF!

Talk about high expectations and being disappointed...This place had such good reviews that I went out of my way to make a reservation. Even before we arrived at the restaurant, I was already a bit put off by the aggressive, repeated demands that we confirm or cancel our reservation. I literally received three messages, from three different platforms (including both text & email) asking if I was reeeeeallly absolutely sure that I would be attending. I responded to the very first confirmation request saying yes, as well as to the later ones...but they just didnt stop coming. It was to the point where I remarked to my companions that it seemed like they were hoping wed cancel. My friends speculated that perhaps they were overbooked. We became even more convinced that this meal would be outstanding, since clearly so many people were trying to squeeze in for a table. Unfortunately, the food was very mediocre. Everything was over-salted, the flavors were not interesting, and the short rib was just plain bad. Overcooked, tough, not much flavor beyond salt. It was so bad that even though none of us were full (due to the small portions), we decided not to order another dish and instead walk down the street to get a $4 slice of pizza. Sad to say, I enjoyed the pizza much more, likely because I didnt have high expectations for it and it was just a good, filling, solid piece of pizza. I would have rated the restaurant as a 2, but added on a star because the server was quite sweet and attentive.

I recently dined at this fantastic restaurant with a group of friends, and we were all impressed with the variety and quality of the dishes. The Kara Age Chicken Skewers were a hit, with perfectly fried chicken paired with a delicious Japanese-style mayo. We also loved the Saikoro Steak, which featured tender grilled steak bites with a delightful chili-ponzu sauce. The Spicy Salmon Tartare was fresh and flavorful, enhanced by the seaweed and tobiiko. Another standout was the Ahi Tuna Tataki, which was lightly seared and sesame-crusted, offering a perfect balance of flavors. We couldnt get enough of the Thai Mushroom Risotto, a rich and creamy dish with a perfect blend of mushrooms and Thai curry broth. However, the only issue we encountered was that all our share dishes arrived at the same time, making it challenging to enjoy each dish at its best temperature. Despite this minor inconvenience, the overall experience was excellent, and I highly recommend trying their varied and delicious menu items.

We have dined at Block Kitchen several times now, and it never fails to impress. Every visit has been remarkable for its food and excellent service. Great vibes and atmosphere. They have great cocktails as well. This time, we arrived during happy hour and ordered the Red Devil Calamari, which has quickly become our favourite appetizer. It s the perfect balance of spice, textures, and flavours. The Chili Tofu Steamed Bao Buns were another highlight. We had the Tokyo Fries, and they were an absolute hit - Crispy, flavourful, and perfectly seasoned. The kimchi was an another delicious side dish! The pan-flashed spicy prawns with peanut sauce were delectable. For dessert, we went for the dark chocolate pot de crème. To our surprise, it was a vegan dessert that blew our minds with its taste and creaminess. Highly recommend Block Kitchen. Kudos to Block Kitchen s team! You guys rock! We shall return

Absolutely loved this restaurant! Favorite meal I had during my trip to Victoria. The food was so good, I would eat it every day if I could. Definitely recommend the Korean Fried Chicken! Perfect sharing sizes for a group. The drinks were also perfectly made. We loved the atmosphere and service as well. Recommend reserving a table ahead of time because this place gets packed!

Ok the menu the service and the food excellent. Unique Asian western kitchen. I loved the duck rolls and short ribs. There were 6 of us and all in with cocktails, beer and champagne plus tips and taxes 500 canadian dollars.

We had the duck spring roles, steak, spicey prawns and salmon tartar. Absolutely recommend you take the time to enjoy this resteraunt if you are in Victoria, worth every second and every penny.

Delicious food!

I took my husband and nine-year old to Block Bar thinking it was a different restaurant that I had visited previously. It has a low-key but friendly vibe. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They were observant and were able to provide excellent service without hovering which I loved and appreciated. We ordered several different things including cocktails and mocktails (the non alcoholic spiced rum is divine), and shareable plates like the lettuce wraps, steamed buns, pork belly, gyoza and edamame. It was all delicious! The sauces accompanying the dishes were the perfect balance to the flavors of each dish and we honestly ate more than we should have! We definitely recommend going to Block Bar for amazing Asian fusion food and delightful drinks in a cozy and intimate space.

Went to Block recently for a surprise birthday dinner and they did NOT disappoint!!! Gorgeous, delicious cocktails, an INCREDIBLE spread of share plates that looked like works of visual art, and tasted even better! Justin, our server, was so fun and kind and attentive, and the owner Andy even came over to see how we were enjoying our meal. Can t recommend enough - thank you for the BEST birthday, Block Kitchen! We ll be back many, MANY more times!

Always a good time with Andy and the fine folks at Block Kitchen and Bar... Although they specialise in interesting Asian-fusion creations, I took a gamble on the smash burger today... and as usual, left satisfied. Keep up the good work, team. Wheelchair accessibility: There is no automatic door, but diligent hosting staff will notice and assist when needed. Washrooms are wheelchair friendly. There are both tall-boy and standards height tables to accommodate guests needs.

I love this place! The Asian fusion tapas style food is incredible and I love the fact that the drinks are also fusion. The Caesar is delicious as are the lettuce wraps. Service is fantastic, they seem to really care about you having a great time. They also do a matcha shaft which Ive never seen before!

Had the sweetest waitress. She has such a fun and lively personality. She recommended great drinks and food too! We loved the atmosphere with dim lighting and cool art. We got a bunch of different food to share. We got one of their special beef bowl. It was filled with a variety of different veggies and flavors. We also got gyozas, seared tuna, and cabbage pancakes. For drinks, oh my goodness. I had the best drinks here! Ube colada, last samurai, post melona, shokushu, limes of passion, and birds of paradise. Holy cow they were all fantastic. We ended with creme brulee. Id say this is my favorite restaurant here in Victoria!!

Gd place to chill out wif friends. Love their fusion s dishes! V ordered sides - steak, fries, today s special - miso Japanese Trout & Pork Belly lettuce wrap that is highly recommended! For dessert, Matcha cheesecake is perfect! The top matcha cheese layer with sesame biscuit at the bottom served with Yuzu paste is absolutely amazing! Server is nice & sweet!

After our first visit to the Block, I can honestly say we will never go back. And before anyone questions this reviews, I do a ton of them and love to support local restaurants and eat out. This place is waaaaaay over rated. Service was almost with an air of snobbery when we said we didn t have a reservation, it was a Tuesday @5 pm in January. The saikora steak, that is cut for you into kid size pieces, is literally accompanied with soup of ponzu sauce swimming in sauce.. Absolutely terrible and the price was $22, the serving size was embarrassing. The Korean chicken was so over done - it tasted burnt and was beyond sickly sweet with their sauce. And the karaage chicken was very overcooked and had little to no flavour The drinks were a whopping $19/ and were the biggest disappointment and waste of money we have spent dining out Unfortunately for us, everything from the service, atmosphere, to the food and drinks were a complete letdown. Our visit was terrible, and the service was really poor.

We dined here tonight on January 27/24 to try our first Dine Around set menu of the season. We arrived and were greeted by friendly servers and got seated right away for our 5:00 reservation. We had 2 cocktails both of which were excellent. The Yuzu Shall pass and a seasonal cocktail with basil oil. I did also try a glass of the feature Saki but found it extremely pungent but bland at the same time. I mentioned to the water that I wasnt fond of it, and they showed exceptional service and took it back without charge. The first course of the Dine Around menu was a scallop with Tobiko and Schichmi. This was served in a scallop shell a la coqulle st jacques style. This dish had a lovely balance of spice, sweetness from the scallop and the tobiko. If I had to criticize this dish at all, I would say that the tobiko could have been presented nicer. Second we received the Tako Yaki topped with kewpi mayo, Japanese BBQ sauce and bonito. The flavour was fantastic, and it wasnt drowning in sauce like some are at other places. The texture was a bit more crisp and perhaps cooked a little long as the inside was fluffy, but the outside took away from that light pillow-like texture sometimes seen in tako yaki. Third, we received fried crispy cauliflower tossed in a General Tso sauce. The texture was perfectly crisp, and the cauliflower was cooked where it was tender but didnt lose integrity. The General Tso sauce had a good balance of acidity and salt but lacked the intensity of sweet spicy notes that some have. Next came a tuna tataki with seaweed salad and zen dressing. This was seared perfectly and had a lovely sesame flavour. The seaweed salad more appeared like fine diced greens rather than wakame or other seaweed salads, so the flavour/texture was a bit unexpected, but was still a nice light foundation for the tuna. Our final savoury course was prawns served in a Thai curry broth accompanied by naan bread. The broth was great and coconut forward, with a pleasant balance of spices and richness without being heavy. Sadly, the prawns were quite overcooked, which really let the end of our meal down. An order of Edamame was also ordered for the table to share, which had a togorashi seasoning, which was amazing. They were perfectly cooked, and the seasoning was just right. During the final 3 courses, I had a glass of the Howling Bluff Sauvignon Blanc. It paired nicely with the food, but on its own was a bit too acidic. The dessert was the most disappointing part of the meal. It was described as a Hawaiian butter mochi with rum pineapple compote and milk ice cream. The ice cream had a nice texture and a slight chewiness. The pineapple was lovely, sweet, and let the rum come through in a balanced, rich way. The mochi itself was served as a solid triangle piece of the glutinous rice. It was very grainy, bland, and unpleasant. The dessert lacked a HUGE amount of finesse and quality from that of their savoury dishes. Overall the experience was a B- with good aspects, some great ones, but some key components were quite a let-down. Since this was a tasting menu, I was a bit disappointed that the water didnt describe each dish as it came to the table. I know this is usually reserved for more fine dining, but it would have added a nice touch. I just hope that they might consider altering the dessert of this set menu because it killed the end of the meal. However, the rest of the experience was quite good. Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance is level and would be easily accessible, however many of the tables are high tops, which limit options when its busy.

We are vegetarian and found plenty to enjoy on this menu. The mushroom risotto was my favorite, so creamy and earthy with great texture. The Zen salad was fresh, sweet, but not too sweet and crunchy. I had forgotten Asian style cauliflower. The colour and flavors were outstanding. From the subtle to the bold. It was all delicious.

We had the delicious tasting menu, while our middle school kids ordered à la carte. The seared tuna tataki was the absolute standout for everyone, kids included, as were the scallops in a shell with tabaiko roe and Japanese mayo. Our daughter loved the ramen, in which she had chicken rather than pork. Unlike another review I read, the grilled shrimp in a Thai peanut broth were simply excellent. Only the taco yaki and the beef lettuce wraps were disappointing. They were not bad, but they were not as good as many of the other things. The tasting menu dessert was terribly tasty. Terrible, because by that time we were all totally stuffed and all of us decided that we shouldn t have dessert until we saw the tempting ice cream, fruit and mochi offered on the tasting menu. Everyone lapped it up, and my wife commented that the house-made vanilla ice cream tasted amazingly like crème brûlée. Everything was presented beautifully. Eating at the block was a delightful experience. The servers, ours I think was named Justin, but also several others who helped us, were so friendly and relaxed. None of the all-too-common high-pressure service. And, written by my 10-year-old: Amazing food and service! Most of the food (everything except the Korean lettuce wrap) came pretty quickly and was delicious. We will definitely come again. The restaurant was very busy on a Friday night but the service was bang on. This new to us restaurant offered a 6 course tasting menu so we could try a variety of their popular dishes. Everything tasted amazing but the standouts were the Saikyo scallops, Thai curry prawns, and the Tako Yaki which must be seen and tasted to be believed. We will be back!

Its probably one of my favorite restaurants in Victoria. That was my third time there, and no matter what you choose everything is amazing. If you go to Victoria you definitely should give it a try. Food

Incredibly small portions. The steak was very disappointing, it was half a steak cut into small pieces next to a lake of ponzu sauce. That was $22. The Naan with 3 dips was depressing. It was cheap 2 inch circles of bread you would buy in a bag served next to 3 small dips. That was $14. The Asian lettuce wraps with duck was flavorful but also very small. Also $22. The only properly portioned Item was the okonomiyaki with pork ($16). Fusion restaurants rarely get it right and the Block is no exception. Random assortments of Asian cuisine with no originality or expertise. An overpriced gimmick focused on the look of the restaurant rather than the food.

There are many things I loved from this place. The food was just incredible. Original, creative and approachable. The relation of price and food/service was very good. The service was kind and with great timing. Family friendly. The concept that all plates can be sheared makes the experience even better. New Years Eve dinner was surprisingly delicious! The restaurant has a relaxed bar-style ambiance. The menu blends Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai cuisines, offering a delightful mix. For example, the cabbage-wrapped duck with Thai chili sauce, Korean kimchi, and Japanese sesame sauce was a pleasant surprise. The octopus takoyaki shaped like a pizza, paired with pork cutlet, was unique. The beef had a cocktail-like flavor, creating a wonderfully intriguing taste. The only downside was that, right at the beginning of our meal, the waiter asked if we wanted to pack leftovers, despite plenty of available seating in the restaurant.

Good food, good service.

The highlights for me were the tuna tataki and the red curry prawn dish special. We also had 3 dips and naan, short ribs, edamame, okonomiyaki. All of it was tasty.

This is our second visit here, and we had such a great experience. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious! We came during happy hour got four appetizers and two 9oz glasses of wine for $64 (before tip). Can t beat that price!! In addition the food was delicious. Seasoned very well and so much flavour. Would absolutely recommend!

I had been looking forward to trying this place since it opened, avidly following their special posts on their instagram accounts. I was disappointed with the experience, though. Menu items came all at once, meaning our table was overflowing with plates, and we felt rushed to eat hot food quickly. For the price, I expected more. Perhaps it was what we ordered, but many items seemed to rely heavily on okinomiyaki toppings, which, combined with the rushed experience, led to an underwhelming experience. The cocktails were clever and excellent. Whoever is curating these is a gem. Special mention to the korean shortribs - those WERE excellent.

Overall experience was okay, service was friendly but not attentive and it did take a while to be greeted at our table and get our orders in. Food arrived quickly but short ribs seemed slightly over. Would give it another go in the future as the menu is extensive and it does lend itself to shareable plates and would be a good spot for appys and drinks with its atmosphere.

I dined at Block Kitchen with my family and friends. The food was superb, and the ambiance was ideal for a gathering. Highly recommend!

Celebrated a Birthday dinner here with family, shared many different dishes !! Pork belly takoyaki, Humboldt squid, Korean fried chicken, shitaji mushroom risotto paired with a ube Pina colada and a yuzu shall pass tequila/mezcal cocktail, finished with a shared special of the night yuzu tart and a different take on a miso/maple flavored creme brulee. This place was crazy good. Best restaurant I ve tried in Victoria. Went with 4 and the staff were incredibly friendly. But I was not expecting the food to be so unique and delicious. My family who has never had Asian / Korean fusion food loved it! The prices are entirely reasonable as well for how filling the dishes are. note that this is not a place where you get a dish for yourself, you get a few and share with the table.

Not your average Victoria restaurant. The food alone is the reason to go. The wine selection is broad and priced well. I didn t realize the original Block is in Banff. One of the chef s came out and presented the dish. It was an artisan experience. Plates exquisitely and tasted even better. 10 out of 10, would recommend. Come for the food, stay for the desserts.

What a great place! Went here with a big group and had no problem having all of us. We ordered a bunch of stuff to share, which was easy to do here. Everything came out quickly and was SOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!! Staff and ambiance was also great. 10/5 recommend

This restaurant is perfect for quick, amazing service! All the food is delicious and has great shareable serving sizes. Even with a group of 18 we were able to get all of our food within an hour of constant ordering because we couldn t get enough of the dishes!! 11/10 recommend

We really enjoyed the food. Servers were very good. But wow the noise level was off the charts. We could not talk without yelling because everyone around us was yelling. Add in some music and bad acoustics and there you have it. We reserved the spot as a romantic meal at the end of our 2 week vacation. Please, don t go here if you are looking for romantic or cozy. It s fine for a night out with friends.

LOVED our experience here last night! We had a lovely time, enjoyed our many tapas choices and had great service from Jesse (who made some amazing recommendations). Some highlights were the Asian Lettuce Wraps that were the perfect sharing portion and had great flavour, the Pork Bao (yumm), and the Ahi Tuna Yaki Onigiri which was so delicious! I highly suggest you end your evening with the Matcha Cheesecake which was to die for.

We stumbled in and everything was amazing. Believe Rebecca was our server the first day and we had to go back again the next day. Justin was our server the second night and he was also amazing. Would highly recommend Block for their food and drinks. Vegetarian options: My wife is vegetarian and she left happy and full.

Been to Block a few times now and always leave a happy camper. The Tuna tataki is cooked perfectly with a creamy seaweed salad, and the Takoyaki fries are a great twist on a restaurant staple. I found the pork wraps to be just okay, but the great happy hour menu made up for it!

Beautiful meal! Both in taste and presentation. Our server was friendly and helpful - even though we asked a lot of questions. Such a different vibe, all made in-house and original. Really impressed at every level.

Words can not describe the amazing dishes served here. Everything is spiced to perfection. I can honestly say of the many restaurants I have visited over my many years this one is on top of the list. Running in circles looking for an interesting place for dinner for our first night on a brief holiday from Vancouver, we found this new place. The atmosphere is SO great! And the staff was so welcoming. Asian fusion food with something for everyone. Had pork and kimchi dumplings, humboldt squid okonomiyaki and beef lettuce wraps. Service was light and friendly. Newly opened. This place is a Victoria must visit!

I don t know I can add much to the reviews that are already here. We stumbled upon The Block randomly after grabbing some Oysters upstairs and were blown away by how good it was. The service was great, the food on point and the flavours were amazing. Highly recommend the Ahi Tuna and the Bao, though I m not sure anything is bad here, those just stood out as incredible. 10/10 - will definitely come again.

We shared the spicy prawns, Thai mussels and octopus chunks (couldnt find any octupus, just mush). I didnt find anything that wowed us. Not sure, like most Victoria restaurants, what the hype is about? Its just average folks.

Super great food and service

The food was the best of our stay in Victoria. We had the Tokyo fries, Kara Age Chicken and Mussels in yellow curry with Naan. Dessert was pot de crème! Jessie our waiter was superb! Make a reservation to insure a spot!

Korean BBQ with just the right spicy level and freshest bun and fillings. Yummy octopus savory tako yaki too. Great service. Just needed a little more patio space and hit the afternoon lull. Will be back again!

We actually were not crazy about our dining experience here. Based on the reviews, we chose it over a bunch of other restaurants in Victoria, and wish we had chosen differently. I m not sure if it has been overly hyped or we caught it on a bad night. Service was really harried, starting with the hostess, who didn t seem to want to give us 30 seconds to choose whether we wanted to eat inside or outside the energy was just to get us seated as fast as possible. That energy of impatience and a sloppy attitude towards service pervaded throughout the night. Tables were uncomfortably close together. Part of the problem was a server serving a bigger table in the corner window next to us who seemed purposely oblivious to us. When we arrived and the hostess was seating us, this server saw us but didn t make room for us to be seated, forcing me to wiggle in on the other side and push up against the person in the two- top. It was embarrassing and weird. This would have been a good time for the hostess to say something and help us out, or for the server to graciously make room for us. You have to be aware of how you re using space in a configuration like that. Throughout the night, she was visibly encroaching on my husband s space, bumping up against him without apologizing, while she hung out with the family she was serving. Our own server was visibly harried and our plates piled up, so I started bussing on my own, putting plates under each other. She did that thing where you try to make eye contact and they pretend not to see you. I asked her to take the menus from us and she just put them next to me on my seat instead. In terms of food, the kimchi was lovely, flavorful and interesting, and the ahi was very good, but some of the food was more heavy- handed than we anticipated, particularly the calamari and Korean fried chicken, the latter dish was just a bit too sweet. All in all, it wasn t a relaxing experience, and memorable for the wrong reasons.

Deadly mains. Excellent fries. Had little green flakes on them. Correct amount of salt. Dipping sauce wasn t ketchup but more than made up for that with the flavour. Classy af.

Went two times with friends in the evening: First time service was questionable, everything was misplaced and / or late, but the food was good enough to try a second time. Second time, my two friends (vegetarian for religious purposes) ordered the certified vegetarian lettuce wraps with tofu. Halfway through eating, my friend realizes there is grilled pork throughout the tofu. We complained and staff apologized, however we waited another hour for our bill while they cleaned up the restaurant. Not to mention charged for the tofu the owner said would be omitted. The staff are not friendly, the atmosphere is lacking in comfort. Food was good, but not good enough for two horrible experiences.

Went for a friends dinner on a Wednesday night. Waited 30 mins for an appetizer. The food was all overly salty...perhaps just me, but also commented by the person I was with. Overpowered the flavor of the food. The waitress was then eating and drinking at the bar. We were waiting a long time for the bill. I went and asked her, she said she wasnt serving us anymore...ok, but perhaps let us know? Atmosphere is OK. I personally didnt care for the salty food and lack of communication. Would I return, no.

We went there for the first time to celebrate my wife s birthday and we had an excellent experience. Staff was very kind and attentive and the overall service was great. Wow. Great restaurant. So delicious food, great selection and everyone was super friendly. You have nothing to complain about there. Except in the kitchen area, the air conditioning is a bit cold. But thats probably because of the open kitchen. Be sure to try the octopus balls - they are amazing!

We were visiting from Portland, OR and this was the first restaurant to pop up with good reviews. We ended up visiting twice during our trip because we enjoyed the food and the experience so much! My favorite dish was the Zen Salad - the dressing is fantastic. We tried the hummus plate, pork belly lettuce wraps, chicken skewers, Hawaiian meatballs, Korean short ribs, and Pork-Kimchi gyozas. If youre there when the cardamom ice cream is available, you must try it! Thank you, Block staff, for your hospitality and the memorable dishes.

My plate arrived with ketchup smothered all over it for a $20 plate of food. The food was abnormally small and by the end of it my stomach was in severe pain. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. They also rushed us to order after we sat down within 2 minutes as they were closing but didn t tell us that when we were at the door deciding whether or not to come in.

Quaint little Asian place with a rustic finish that serves Asian fusion appetizers for sharing. It has a nice vibe, perfect for hanging out with friends, offering healthy choices of blended drinks, mini entrees and appetizers.

They were extremely accommodating to my partners garlic allergy - one of the chefs even came out of the kitchen and gave us a list of everything he could make without garlic. Honestly not my favorite. Love that it is owned by chefs and that it is creative. It was just very expensive and I was told something I ordered was a full sized meal and it was super tiny. Great for foodies and definitely a fun vibe! Just not for me.

Was in Japan in April and was really craving some of the flavours we experience there. These guys are nailing the authenticity, especially the tako yaki. Same as we had in Japan, only better as I wasn t standing in a crowded street eating them lol. Will be back to see how the okonomiyaki compares to the ones we had in multiple cities there. Other dishes we had were the Korean fried chicken, so spicy and saucy. Very good! We had the duck spring rolls with their spicy dip, also delicious. We both had the pork belly bar which was AMAZING. The bao buns are so soft and delicious. We also tried the kimchi which could have been spicier but is very flavourful! Will be back for sure.

Its my first time coming here Block Kitchen and Bar Victoria. We order okonomiyaki pork belly, tokyo fries, ahi tuna yaki onigiri, Thai mushroom risotto, karaage chicken skewers, steam bao buns japabao dog, and ahi tuna tataki. We also order blocktails too. I would definitely come back here in the future for sure.
