German-inspired restaurant with Swiss and Austrian accents. Find us on Doordash and Skip the Dishes for take-out and delivery. Danke!
It's been 3 years that Eva's has hosted our Christmas party - and every year there's rave reviews from all who attend! Fantastic food, great setting, and Cole: certainly one of the best servers I've ever encountered. Thank you again for an amazing evening - in our opinion: you're certainly one of the best restaurants in Victoria!!
We tried Eva for the first time last night and had a super delicious dinner, we shared the beef rouladen with braised cabbage (the cabbage was actually my favorite dish of the night) and the Schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce, spatzle and rutabaga mash. We also had great service, thanks Cole!
I brought my partner for our anniversary. He is Swiss, and with my long list of allergies I can't make him a lot of his favorite meals. He thoroughly enjoyed the Rouladen and I very much enjoyed the gluten free schnitzel!! The servers were fantastic with answering my questions and making sure my meal stayed safe for me to eat without a reaction. Kind and thoughtful waitress. Peaceful and relaxing environment. We will be back for sure
I loved this restaurant! Modern decor made it feel cosy yet upbeat. The wait staff was super helpful and even gave tips on our future culinary adventures in Victoria. The food was delicious and very surprisingly not over filling! I would come back again for sure! The picture is of the Jager Schnitzel!
Elegant modern German restaurant with a simple yet inspiring menu! Wonderful service and witty friendly staff made enjoying dinner at the restaurant top notch. Delectable Schnitzel with mustard cream, pretzel with mustard butter, liverwurst on sourdough with pickled mustard seed, and Bavarian cream with raspberries. Some of the best schnitzel I've ever had!
Overall, Eva Schnitzelhaus is a delightful restaurant that never fails to impress its patrons. With its charming ambiance and delectable menu, it is no wonder why this establishment has become a favorite among locals and tourists alike. From the moment you step foot into the restaurant, you are greeted with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The interior of Eva Schnitzelhaus exudes a rustic charm, with wooden furniture and the walls are adorned with vintage photographs and artwork, transporting you to the heart of Austria. The soft lighting adds to the intimate feel of the place, making it the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends and family. But it is not just the ambiance that makes Eva Schnitzelhaus so special; it is the food that truly steals the show. The menu offers a wide variety of authentic German/Austrian dishes, with their schnitzels being the star of the show. Each schnitzel is perfectly breaded and fried to golden perfection, accompanied by a generous portion of crispy spatzle or braised red cabbage. The meat is always tender and succulent, with a satisfying crunch in every bite.
Schnitzel and meatballs were pretty good - nothing overly impressive about them though. The schnitzel was plain and quite greasy. Bavarian cream and chocolate desserts were great. To me, their desserts were four stars and foods were three and a half stars. It was a good place to visit, but not sure if this place would be my regular. Also, we were asked to leave after an hour and 15 minutes for the next reservation, which was interesting since we were not walk-in.
We had a wonderful evening at Eva with the entire family. We sat outside on the patio with two young kids, it was spacious and they had room to play on the benches. Our server Cole was super friendly and attentive. He helped us with all our decisions. The wine selection was great, and they even had one of our favourites from Else Winery. The Schnitzel was delicious (and enormous) as is to be expected since it’s their signature. What really surprised us was all the small bites and plates. Our favourites were the chicken liver mousse, Tartar, and the pretzels/pickles were a hit with the kids. Overall a great experience and an opportunity to try delicious German food in a great setting. We’ll definitely be back, maybe to try brunch, since it’s a family friendly spot that hits all the right notes.
A great meal. Thank you for a great round of comfort food.
This restaurant is a gem! To think that this place had basically zero wait time, while Blue Fox and Jam Cafe have lines going around the block is an absolute injustice and speaks to the lack of imagination most people have when it comes to their brunch choices. Nothing against the other two restaurants: they do a great job and are perfectly fine. But seriously -- venture beyond the familiar even a tiny bit, and youll be delighted with places like Eva that dare to bring new ingredients and treatments to familiar brunch fare! A benny with a sauerkraut pancake thats to die for! All kinds of schnitzels, including one made of eggplant for vegetarians like me! I could not recommend this place more highly!
Worlds best flat meat. Also try the small dishes. Pickles make me go wahoo! Clearly talented and nice people working here
We visited the Eva Shnitzelhaus for supper. Both of us ordered the classic schnitzel with sides of red cabbage, squash, rutabaga. The food was pretty good, the schnitzel wasn t as fluffy as we had in Europe but okay. The one negative, I have regards the ambiance. The restaurant is modern in decor, and quite pleasant, however, the choice of background music could have been more tasteful. Although I m not a prude, playing hip-hop where the lyrics included motherf###er and other profanity, is probably not a good idea for a restaurant.
It was such a pleasure to dine at Eva:) a wonderful place with wonderful beverages that brings my heart so much joy! What a fun and cozy place to hangout with friends Vegetarian options: Pickles
We had a great meal from start to finish, friendly helpful servers, great food and able to accommodate Gluten Free options for my partner. Really tasty food with a lot of depth of flavour, very fresh, seems like almost everything is made in house.
Was craving Swiss food for a while since returning from Zürich and was lucky to find this place in Victoria. Got the Schnitzel with mushroom sauce and have to say the mushroom sauce and the rösti were way more flavourful than the authentic version back there. Looks like theyve added a Canadian twist to it and it works well! The Schnitzel however, could have been thinner because thicker cuts tend to dry out really fast. Also, the spätzle was alright and could have been tad better. The overall dish however was good, the portions were pretty huge and I was definitely satisfied towards the end!
Absolutely amazing and delicious food!!!
Service is a little slow and the vibe is fine - just like any other restaurant in downtown Victoria. Food was fine, but who has time for fine anyways?
The $50 menu puzzled me a bit. Individually, the items were $48 but I paid $50. The music was not German as hoped. The food did not impressed. Would I go again, maybe!
The great cider and authentic schnitzel took me back to my time in Duesseldorf, Germany. And the staff is so friendly. Highly recommend!
My favourite restaurant in Victoria. Lived here for 5 years. The food and service are always on point
I have the worst winer snitchel in my life The meat was wery thin and toff I have a toff time to cut the meat i sended back the second order was the same the price what they charge for the snichel is a total rip of. Leslie
Highly recommend this spot. Went with family and we all were impressed by the quality of the food and the service. If you enjoy German food, you must stop in here! We would definitely come back on our next trip to Victoria!
Yummy !!!!!
This is a great german restaurant: service was friendly and fast, food was incredibly good, drinks were excellent, music and ambience was really nice.
Perfectly prepared schnitzel, wonderful spaetzle, some of the best braised red cabbage and sauerkraut Ive had. I wish I could rate it higher than 5 stars.
Loved this place and staff were also amazing. Best Schnitzel and Wurst I have had outside of Germany or Switzerland!! Beer also Pretzels
Really liked the jagerschnitzel, didnt get to take a picture but was great with the mushroom gravy, would like to go back for a dinner sometime
One of the better dining experiences I ve ever had. Cole was an absolute delight, ambiance is cozy and inviting and the food is incredible. Don t miss out on the cucumbers or the cabbage.
Our go to for special occasions! Best staff, atmosphere & of course food!
Went for brunch with friends. Food was superb - great quality, fresh, perfectly prepared - the decor interior was really well done, and service was excellent. Our server was welcoming and friendly without being overbearing. Just thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, well definitely be back for dinner!
Good price, excellent service, very tasty. Our best meal in Victoria.
Authentic Austrian experience, except the music, , with amazing food and drink with impeccable service.
First time eating here and it did not disappoint, it s a must try. Seriously, very tasty and quality schnitzel.
Absolutely one of the best schnitzels outside of germany. The mushroom gravy schnitzel was exactly the same deliciousness as can be found in good traditional restaurants in Cologne, Germany.
I went to Eva for my birthday 3 months ago and I ve thought about my meal here every day since. The best schnitzel and spatzle ever!!! I really appreciate the staff being quick with communication, going above and beyond to accommodate my dietary needs, and making constant changes to my reservation as some plans fell through- and without any complaints. I can t wait to get back here! Dietary restrictions: Specially ordered in chicken to accommodate my Chicketarian diet. This request needs to be made at least 3 days before you plan on dining.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options available Food
This being called Eva schnitzel house, we decided to go with the schnitzel. It came hot and fresh from the kitchen in the portions were extremely generous in size. The waiter was very friendly and a real Dynamo getting things done. Oh yes, and the food was terrific.
Beautiful and comforting venue. Such simple dishes made to absolute perfection. I m impressed. Edit: Updating my review after trying their brunch this is an absolutely MUST HAVE brunch spot in Vic. Unreal. Way too underrated.
food was great, some portions were small and overpriced though. staff was amazing
Very good schnitzel, spatzle and good old red cabbage. I will be back again when next in Victoria.
Great food, great service
Brunch here was so good!!
Loved the atmosphere and food. Some dishes were a bit too salty. And it was really cold in the room. Otherwise great and will be back.
Very tasty meal- schnitzel was perfect combination of crispy crust and moist meat. Sides also delish! Good value though cocktails were expensive, but they are everywhere these days.
Food was less appetizing than I expected. For the price the schnitzel really was not that appealing. Spatzel, I can make just as well (or better) at home. Atmosphere: typical city vibes with rap and alternative playing in the background. Not exactly a German atmosphere. Food
I had a good time there. Food was good, but for my taste, it needs more flavor. From the reviews, I had the impression that brunch is a better option than dinner. Anyway, it was worth it and the service was great.
The schnitzel with hollandaise was absolute perfection
Really great food, exceptional service and a good beer selection! What more could you possibly want??
Great meal. Lovely dining room, pretty bar . Ill be a repeat customer
Fully authentic, great food. Felt like I was back home. Food
Meatballs with mustard sauce. Delicious.
AMAZING. Visiting from NZ, and its our favourite restaurant in Victoria. Service was relaxed yet attentive, and the food is comforting and packed full of flavour. I wish this could be our regular.
My parents and I went to EVA yesterday night, were kind of schnitzel experts since my German grandmother would cook us that everytime wed visit her, and we were not disappointed with EVAS. The menu was simple but they delivered the quality and the execution. Surprisingly, out of all the sides, the red cabbage was the most tasteful and particularly popular in our table. We also had an excellent Pinot Noir and finished with the two desserts, with the caramel apple cake being my personal favorite. My parents were visiting me from France and we all had a memorable experience that sent us back to my childhood. Looking forward to the next time !
We ve been living in Victoria for a while but hadn t heard of this place, we happened to walk by randomly when looking for a new place to stop for some lunch. so glad we made the discovery! The food was great, staff were super friendly and the Austrian inspired interior was fun! will definitely be returning! Hopefully for dinner next time as the menu looks lovely!
Great Schnitzel and good beer!
Food is always fantastic, nice wine choices and great service in a charming atmosphere
We started with a wonderful Schwartzwald Manhattan, and opened with a pretzel with an exquisite mustard butter. I had a traditional schnitzel with mashed rutabega, and red cabbage. My wife had a mustard cream schnitzel, with spaetzle, and roesti. The roesti and schnitzel were excellent. We finished with a great white chocolate Bavarian crème with raspberry sauce. Well worth a trip for Schnitzel with spaeitzle. (Sound of Music reference!)
My first every German food experience was amazing here. Food is delicious and they have friendly staff and the restaurant is very beautiful. We go back!
Excellent. All around. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Best schnitzel / dine out experience in Victoria
Weve gone twice and really enjoyed it both times. The food is high quality and cooked perfectly, such delicious flavors. Weve had the same server both times and he is so kind and great at his job. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back!
The RACLETTE was really delicious, the real raclette cheese, potatoes were cooked just right, the plate was nice and hot. You can t go wrong preparing this dish unless you serve on a cold plate. I was very disappointed on the PANIERTE SCHNITZEL, it was oily and over done, this usually happens when the oil hasn t been change. The RÖSTI, it wasn t the traditional Swiss/German but it was a galette of potato instead. They DON T have an ESPRESSO machine!!! I was quite disappointed, specially because I have been looking for awhile to visit this restaurant, and finally my best friend and I decided last minute to go there for Christmas. I grew up in Switzerland, and was so happy to go there for some comfort food. The BAVARIAN CREAM, was DELICIOUS!!! I ll go back for the raclette, Bavarian cream , and a glass of vino. Please get an espresso machine. Yes, our server was really nice, and pleasant, she gave us our time to eat without rushing us like all the other restaurants do in town.
My wife and I ve eaten here a couple of times now and it is great!
The food seemed authentic, tasted great, and had a cozy atmosphere complete with photos of the Swiss Alps. I appreciate their inclusion of the Eggplant Schnitzel as a vegetarian option. While not quite as amazing as the pork Schnitzel my wife had, it was still delicious alongside the spatzel and a cocktail featuring a German spirit. Vegetarian options: Has vegetarian options, so youll have something if you want to go here with non-vegetarians. However, the lack of variety doesnt have me recommending this for dedicated vegetarians.
Jesus Christ the food here is so good. And the servers were top notch, just chill and fun and efficient. Made some jokes and chatted, then got right to it. Unknowingly I had dropped my napkin, at some point I went to use, and there was a fresh one right there, holy cow. Plus fun cows on the wall, double great. We got the Currywurst + beers to start. Yum yum. Then the Jagerschnitzel + Mustard/ Leek Cream. Both so good... Will be back. Thank you very much Colin and Cole. . Cheers!
Having dined in fine restaurants all over; Europe, New York, and Vancouver. Worked with some of the best food and beverage managers and Chefs in Canada . . . this was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. Arriving at an empty restaurant with a reservation at opening on Jan 14th, 2022 to 1 couple ahead of us who did not have a reservation we were seated at the back while they were seated at the best window seat in the room. Out of curiosity I asked how their seating and reservations worked. The host, after explaining their time block booking, which made little sense but we accepted none the less, went on to tell us What a weird question for you to ask, flabbergasted my wife asked him why he would say such a thing, to which he replied Because I can, to which he added I dont like you guys, you are being condescending. . . looking around the restaurant. Having never met this fellow in our lives I couldnt believe what I had actually just heard from the host of a restaurant and industry that is customer driven. Honestly the worst treatment I have ever received in any industry, and had he treated one of our customers that way for simply asking a question would no longer be in the industry. I will be suggesting to anyone I meet to avoid this place at all costs. I am only thankful he showed us who he was prior to us spending any money and we were able to get up and leave. My only regret is not being able to leave zero stars on this review. . . In reply to below from owner. . . to be clear. . .there was zero effort put into reseating us, and in fact once it was explained to us we were fine with that, It was the fully rude comments made to us by the House Manager that we even dare to ask about our seating, and then go on to say he was entitled to talk to us in that manner and tell us he didnt like us . . . he doesnt even know us? As I said . . . coming from a restaurant background it was one of the most bizarre things Ive ever witnessed. Your reply doesnt address that, nor do you seem to even care about the treatment of your customers.
Amazing food and service! Great value as well which is currently difficult to find in the city. The Jagerschnitzel is our go to.
Love Eva! Great food, amazing service.
The best German food and incredible service every single time!
Great place looking forward to going back soon. The food was awesome and so was our server Cole
Always delicious. Been here a handful of times with different friends and it s always a hit. Came here for brunch as well my word I would give 10 stars if I could! Service is always amazing too!
Eva Schnitzelhaus easily deserves 5 stars because of its tasty Schnitzel, Awsome service, and amazing atmosphere! I had the jagerschnitzel with spaetzle and mashed rutabaga, and it tasted amazing!
Eva is one of our fave spots for dinner and brunch! The food is delicious, and the wine list is unique- offering quality sips from talented winemakers across BC (and international). To top it off the service from Cole and the team is what keeps us coming back again and again. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from Patrick and Bri
Excellent food, interesting wine list, friendly staff and a great vibe. Exposed brick walls and ski-related decor fits the European feel. Will look forward to our next visit.
Absolutely amazing for date night!
Amazing experience. I don t drink beer often but I will definitely come back for that. Food was delicious nad servers were super friendly
I visited this German restaurant because it was my German friends birthday. On that day, I had a schnitzel. It was very tasty and a little bit similar to the Japanese dish Tonkatsu. The schnitzel at this restaurant has become one of my favorites. Food
We tried a bunch of different appetizers, and we all had a different schnitzel. The food was fantastic, pretty much every schnitzel was amazing in its own unique way, and the service was insanely good. Very cozy, laid-back atmosphere, maybe not the best place for a raucous night out, but excellent if you want to take it easy and enjoy great food.
We had such a wonderful dining experience on Sunday at Eva Schnitzelhaus. We had our little 10 month old baby with us, and we felt very welcomed by the staff. They went way out of their way to keep her entertained - replacing the spoons that fell on the floor, chatting with her - it way beyond thoughtful! And the food was absolutely delicious! Especially the ham and emmenthal schnitzel. The two servers that were working held the busy restaurant down effortlessly it was actually quite impressive to watch! We will be back again soon.
Incredible service! Outstanding food. We were seated immediately and wait staff was attentive but not disruptive. Had a classic schnitzel cooked to perfection with a crispy rosti and Brussels. I cleaned my plate effortlessly. We followed up with dessert. Delicious coffee and a fragrant, moist, not to heavy apple cake. I need to go back and work my way through the menu.
Very generous dish sizes, pleasant and inviting environment.
Second time visiting and it did not disappoint. Great ambiance and delicious food. Yum!
What an absolute gem. The service was amazing. Our server was someone that I would want to keep as best friend. The wine he recommended to me was exactly what I was describing. He was extremely funny and attentive. I wish I had grabbed his name to post on here. The food was fantastic. Beautiful schnitzel and amazing sides. Bravo!
Great place, food was awesome, super friendly staff. Will have to go again for sure!
Good Bavarian food I downtown Victoria. Felt it was a little pricey for the portions.
We make a point to come here when we are in town. Great food and service! friendly staff!
Stopped in for brunch and it was fantastic! Cozy spot with wonderful food, service, and drinks. I really enjoyed the jagerschnitzel with poached egg.
Great place all round. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Got a gift card for a friends anniversary to try. Food : 5/5
Pretty damn good shnitzel
Finally, I had the chance to give this place a try with a friend, and we were NOT disappointed. The food was amazing, and the service was fantastic, with a great atmosphere.
We had the jagerschnitzel, sauerkraut and spaetzle. Best german food i have ever had. And the beer was good too.
After walking by various brunch places with long lines, we easily got a table and quick service at Eva Schnitzelhaus. Ambiance and music are great. We loved our meals- the fried rice and schnitzel salad. Caesars were delicious. Highly recommend!
Best food in Victoria!
A good schnitzelhaus has a special place in our hearts after a few road trips to Leavenworth WA. But of course we havent been able to go for years. And this year is as hectic and crazy as the last few for all of us. So we tried Evas for one of our birthdays as a small quick way to capture the magic. Most importantly the food was very fast and very good. We had two different types of schnitzel, all of the possible sides I think, and three of the four desserts. Emily, who met us at the door and took us to our table served us for the two+ hours, we were there, was delightful, personal, personable and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. She really made this special for us. Even for Margo lol! I had to take a star off for ambiance because the venue itself is small and echoey so it was a bit loud. But then so were we, I suspect. Reservations only and I recommend if youre older as we are that you ask for a table. Many of the seats are bar-height stools. It was filled, and seemed by a number of regulars as well. Highly recommend.
Pleasant little place, with above average food but not gourmet. Unsurprisingly, a focus on schnitzels, of which there are at least four or five different types. All of which were good, pork not veal. The sides that accompanied them were well made. Seating of varying heights i.e. stools or chairs etc. but rather close together. Atmosphere enhanced by big windows. When we tried booking online, we were told that there wasnt a table available until later when we got there the place was half empty, and they were taking in walk-ins; thus if you wish for a specific time I would recommend calling.
We re Victoria locals and go here every date night. The food is consistently fresh, delicious, and served quickly. We ve travelled to fondue and schnitzelhaus across Banff, Germany, Austria, and the Swiss alps and we re happy to say Eva has some of the best German cuisine. The fondue is next level with the variety of options to dip. We love Eva and highly recommend it. It always leaves us satisfied. Prost!
Amazing brunch spot. The Deutsche baby and schnitzel Benedict are top tier. Friendly and attentive staff. Cool vibe with low lighting and a good view through the big windows.
Our server Mac was exceptional; well educated and well spoken. Give the guy a raise! Mushroom schnitzel arrived quick and delicious. We will be returning soon.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and even better food! Will definitely be back to try all of the other items! I had the jagerschnitzel and hubby had the classic with lemon and with an Erdinger dunkel.
The food here is incredible.
One of the best meals Ive had! Amazing place for quality German food. Their curry ketchup is also wonderful.
I had the beef chuck plate tonight. Seriously the best sauerkraut I ve ever tasted!!!!
Great place for tourists and locals. Speztel is very good.
10/10 would recommend. Everything was so good from the food to the service to the ambience. Delicious, good portions, great beer. I loved the pretzel. Only took one star away because it was so hot. Needed to turn the ac up a little. Food
Very good brunch!
So happy to find this place. Service is top notch and the food is the best I have had in a long time. Definitely a gem in victorias downtown
This place was absolutely incredible. Totally reminded me of the Jägerschnitzel I had in Austria when I was young. Probably even better. The service was superb. We had 2 drinks that I highly recommend: the Hofbräu Müchner Bier & the dry cider. Then, ended our meal with the Apple cake. Divine! This place is truly one to visit when you re in Victoria next. I d come back to the city JUST for this restaurant.
Lovely quiet dinner!
We had great food, great service and a wonderful evening. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free was great! Food : 5/5 |
The server from Calgary was such a sweetheart and made us feel welcomed and helped us make the right decision from the menu. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We will definitely comeback.
Great environment, great food, great service :)
Nice little place. The first time there for me it was a surprise to me what we were eating. Service was great and the food was good and fast coming out.
Recently went to Eva Schnitzelhaus with some friends and had an amazing experience. The service was very warm and welcoming, and the food was top notch. Special thanks to the staff for a great local wine recommendation.
Gluten free schnitzel - and it was absolutely amazing. Best schnitzel I can remember even having. Service was fantastic and we were seated right away even on a Friday night. Dietary restrictions: Ask for gluten free options as they have some available.
We live the layout, the cozy atmosphere, but the service and the food are the stars. We has jagerschnitzel and spaetzele. It was so filling and comforting. Food
None of the photos shown in previous reviews resemble what we were offered last night. The schnitzel was dry appeared to have been deep fried and the spatzle also appeared to have been fried. My cucumber salad was the only delicious thing I ate. Parking: Good
Came here to celebrate some life events with my partner. Such a quaint and warm environment. Our server (I believe their name was Mac from the name on our receipt) was attentive, pleasant and engaging. Could tell all of their servers are very well versed in the menu. Had the pretzel, eggplant schnitzel and ham and Gruyère schnitzel. Food was fantastic. The cucumber salad was my favorite. Limited drink menu had great wine and beer selection. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic food. Authentic and alright atmosphere . With ok good service. Priced good
Have been here several times and am always pleasantly surprised: great food, great service, great ambience. JAGERSCHNITZEL - to die for. Although not a vegetarian, I opted for the eggplant schnitzel last time and was not disappointed. Gotta have the spaetzle as a side! Rutabaga and cucumber salad were also delish. Will be back next time in Victoria!
The food here is a bit expensive but so delicious! The vibe was also a little fancy which was kind of nice, I really liked it and highly recommend! The jagerschnitzel and rosti were probably the best parts for me.
Wonderful discovery of a restaurant that serves casual German inspired food. Beautiful cozy restaurant. Friendly service with tasty, simple honest food. We sampled as much as we could on the menu and everything was lovely.
I had brunch with the folks at Eva and it was amazing! The food was wonderful, and the service was impeccable. Mom and I ordered the schnitzel hollandaise, and her partner ordered the breakfast with brats and roasti. All was fantastic and so reminiscent of traveling to Berlin. I cant wait to go back and try the jagerschnitzel!
I always love going to Eva. It is a great spot for brunch or dinner. The food is consistently tasty and they use good quality, local ingredients. The service is wonderful. All their staff are very pleasant. A great spot in Victoria :)
So pretty, atmosphere place, very good looking
There is no need for a modern schnitzelhaus
Great place, great service, great food, amazing atmosphere! Pork schnitzel was excellent, spatzle was seasoned perfectly and red cabbage delicious! Prepared in a homestyle fashion. Nice drink selection. Excellent servers! Highly recommended for authentic Central European cuisine.
Fantastic, and massive portions. Prepare a DD for the carb coma alone. Cole made sure we were well looked after, with a calibre of service you dont usually see on Vancouver Island.
Second time there. Delicious! Favorite desert. Bavarian cream with raspberry coulis
Unbelievable! memories of my Oma and Opa flooded through an amazing meal. From the service, the dinner wear and the food, everything was 10/10, will 100% be back, thank you Eva, thank you. Perfect experience
We would love to try their food but it is impossible to make a reservation. We tried their web site, emailed and called which went to a voicemail. If you are going to make your reservation process online you should really make sure its rock solid. I guess it was not meant to be, al vita Zein.
Best schnitzel Ive had since I worked for a Swiss chef. Excellent German beers as well, and fantastic service.
Great new addition to the Victoria food scene.
Great local craft beers on tap, more importantly the food is excellent
Victoria NEEDED a good German restaurant and Eva delivers. Great, comforting German food, a creative menu and cozy ambience. Highly recommend.
A small, intimate German restaurant at the foot of Chinatown. Absolutely outstanding service. Great German beer on tap. The menu is limited but represents a good variety of German dishes. My schnitzel with mustard sauce tasted great but the meat was a bit dry and overcooked. The vegetable dishes were excellent. There is a small bar inside the door and during the summer (if it ever arrives) there is provision for an outside dining area. This is a very good choice for an evening meal in downtown Victoria. Prices are moderate. Due to the limited seating and this restaurants popularity, a reservation is a must.
Fabulous brunch!! Had the not quite fried rice , which is actually fried spaetzle, pancetta, peas, and a fried egg. OMG delicious!
My husband had read a review about Eva Schnitzelhaus and decided we must go there! So, on a Sunday, we took our eldest grandson with us and went for a little adventure in dining. Eva s is a very pleasant little place with lots of wood walls, table settings and a feature that I especially liked was a minimalist approach to decor. It made for a cosy atmosphere. The wait staff are very pleasant, knowledgeable, have a good sense of humour and a quality that I really do like, do not say; hey guys, what would we like order? The menu is small but varied, they have a very nice cocktail list, imported and local craft brews and a good mix of BC and imported wines. We ordered our selections and we were very pleased with the quality and plating of our food. We will definitely be returning.
Second time dining here and just as lovely as the first time. I highly recommend dining here and havent had a bad meal yet.
Arrived on a busy Sunday of a long weekend. Hostess found us a table for 6 even though they closed in a hour. Prompt and polite service, good food and a nice atmosphere.
Not such a big menu, but whats on the menu is So good! We live 1,5 hout away from Germany and go there often for schnitzel, Evas exceeded expectations. The eggplant & jager schnitzel was excellent, Place to go to when youre around!
The food fulfills my nostalgic hunger for the meals I grew up with in a mixed Swiss household. I usually order a bunch of appies and sides. I m not a schnitzel liver but still really enjoy the eggplant schnitzel.
Excellent short menu of German classics done exceptionally well. The endive, apple and walnut salad was fresh and bright, and the beef tartare had a delicious through-note of mustard and was presented beautifully. The schnitzel is huge - enough for 2 to share with a few smaller plates - and magnificently crunchy. The mushroom sauce, morels and spaetzle were a perfect combination, as was a side of greens to cut the richness. Good drink options but very limited cocktail menu. Service was very nice and prompt with requests but just too infrequent with only one front of house staffer.
Lovely second visit to Eva. Service was especially friendly and welcoming. My wife and I shared a couple of small plates, a huge tasty salad and the regular schnitzel. Honestly sharing a few dishes is the way to go the portions are generous and you might as well leave some room for a few cocktails and a glass of wine. The atmosphere sitting at the bar was perfect. The staff were all friendly and attentive. All our food came out super fast but we didnt feel rushed and enjoyed drinks throughout our meal.
4.5 rather than 5 as there was some weird smell in the air like a glade plug in. Nice jaegerschnitzel, cabbage great, huge portions. I think wed split one next time (if we can sit outside maybe). Had currywurst to start - good. Server very funny.
PROS: - Food is pretty good but a deep fried schnitzel makes it a little greasy. I prefer pan fried schnitzels - Service is quick and friendly - Location is great with lots of parking nearby - Signage to the washrooms are funny. CONS: - It is a bit noisy inside. Acoustics are lacking. OVERALL: This place will give you A tasty German/ Austrian food experience.
Excellent restaurant offering many GF options including schnitzel. Not only was the food fantastic but the service was friendly and efficient. Great place!!
My partner and I visited Eva Schnitzelhaus for dinner, and had a wonderful experience. I heard about Eva through a friend, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they had gluten free schnitzel with a dedicated gluten free fryer (celiac win!!). I had the gluten free jagerschnitzel, which is pork schnitzel with a mushroom gravy. I had this with cucumber salad and roesti (which is like a hash-brown square). It was very good! Takes me back to going to a german restaurant with my Oma as a child. My partner had schweinschnitzel with roesti and red cabbage. He also thoroughly enjoyed it. Also the food came in lightning speed - I was shocked! Ill definitely be back to this local gem. Its modern yet rustic atmosphere, tasty food and rapid service puts it high on my list.
By far the best food Ive has in Victoria! The brunch menu did not disappoint either. I had the Not quite fried rice dish. It was spectacular! Everything is made in house . The red cabbage and spaetzle were my favorite side dishes. The schnitzel was amazing and the staff are awesome especially Cole. If your headed to Victoria or lucky enough to live there Go to Eva!
I finally managed to get a reservation - first attempt was a walk in during Taste of Victoria which was a no go. The food was fantastic. I will agree that the schnitzel should be pan fried verses deep fried as it was too greasy and slightly over cooked - but still nothing to prevent me from returning to eat again. But without knowing the kitchen setup up & staffing, there may be a reason why it is not done in a pan. Having said that, there was great crunch on my pork (I went traditional as it would tell me what kind of cooks they are as simple food should be able about the food & it was). Let me tell you the roesti alone is WORTH the trip. The Gods broke the mold after the creation of this alone. It is a small location & I did enjoy the decor. Typical little modern hip bistro feel in Chinatown with a great mix of windows, wood & concrete. Downside: you just cannot walk in an get a table. I would recommend down the road that the management opt for a better reservation system as there is no way to change it & I did not the email confirmation. At one point I needed to change my time, but left a phone message & email, neither of which got returned. When we arrived at 7 pm, there was no record of us & the staff had to go check for my messages. Luckily, they were able to seat us & we went on to have a fabulous evening with great German beer. It did our culture proud. I found the floor staff awesome & friendly. All the diners were having a great time. Nice to have a equal to superior replacement to the old establishment no longer with us.
Achieved a rare joy of eating dinner at the bar tonight. Most often my meals are accompanied, a table for three please . A table for two and a half , if I m in my dad joking mood. Myself, a 20yr ago, expat of the BOH/FOH, I relish the experience of eating dinner on a barstool in a nice restaurant such as this one. When one sits at a table, we give in to a world designed for us. The decor, cutlery, linen, tables, music, the ambiance is intentionally created for us by them. We sit at those tables often too closely, private conversations often heard, if interesting, eventually regretful we heard them at all. To avoid mostly all of that, choose to eat your meal, by yourself, at this restaurants bar. Designed for function and purpose, little else, sitting at this one without any tv s, is the place to be and likely no reservations required. Allow yourself then to be in the employee s world now. Choosing the bar to eat your meal, you get to see the man behind the curtain. (Wizard of Oz ref) You ll hear the spray of water from the dish pit hitting dishes. You hear the bell ring when food is up. You will see the hustle of a waitress pouring her own pints, as I did, you may see a glimpse of the chef if you re lucky. You will hear voices you cannot see spoken, you ll hear subtle sounds of metal, glass and porcelain, if you listen, you won t make much sense of it. You ll hear muffled conversations, did you drop waters off to table six? . Sitting at the bar eating your meal, you might feel as I did tonight, a feeling as if your on their team now and hopeless to help. If this restaurant s phone had of rang, I d have picked it up and asked who s calling. Sitting at the bar to eat in a place like this is living vicariously as though you re one of them. Being bored and obliviously sat and waiting at table six for your glass of water, you can do better. Do yourself this favour, order as I did. Two pints, Pilsner and Hefeweizen, in that order. Start with the Cured Herring on Rye appetizer. Order the Jagerschnitzel main with the chosen sides of spaetzle and greens. And sit at the bar to eat your meal by yourself or with one other max. If this place is packed full at the bar without anyone sitting at any of the tables, I ll know that you owe me a pint for all this good advice I ve given you. Table six.
This was Our First Visit to Eva and Not Our Last! Cute little place in the Bottom of Chinatown Make Sure You Come on a Empty Stomach, the Food is Excellent. We started with The Beef Tartare, Pretzel and Mustard Butter. Then the Schnitzel! Will definitely be Back Very impressed with Our Waitress putting up with all Our questions Affordable and Good Beer Selection
It is an amazing Schnizelhaus and Im so grateful the we have this in Victoria. Its so close to the original German schnizel. Everything was great including our waiter, she was helpful knowledgeable and amazing. Thank you for the superb night!
So good and food shows up quick! Very tasty and worth a visit
What an amazing place! Beautiful decor, fantastic food and amazing service. Cole is an absolute light, funny and very professional. We went for brunch and really enjoyed it. Cant wait to try it out for dinner!
After the closure of the Rathskeller, Victoria sorely lacked a quality German restaurant. Eva Schnitzelhaus is exactly that. Delicious food, friendly staff, and a unique atmosphere that is both cozy and grand. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ive had both the jagerschnitzel and the eggplant schnitzel here and both are delicious and huge portions. Major points for the spaetzle, pretzels, and the beer/drink selection too. Also some of the best and funniest service Ive had at a Victoria restaurant. A bit pricy to dine here regularly, but Ill definitely be back again.
We had such a good experience here. Actually lucked out getting into a couple other places first but glad we ended up here. Service was excellent and the food was something I wouldn t have sought out but it was very good. Would definitely return. Btw the schnitzel is enormous. All plates in general I would say are better for sharing.
Great comfort food after a long travel to Victoria... I really liked the Jager Schnitzel... (the pretzel coulda been bigger)
When you walk into Eva you are greeted by friendly staff and immediately feel the welcoming atmosphere. The food is truly amazing and will leave you feeling full and satisfied. I wish I lived in tow so I could eat at Eva more often Vegetarian options: Delicious vegetarian eggplant schnitzel!
Phenomenal food and amazing staff. Loved it!
Beautiful restaurant and amazing food. Have been to many restaurants through Victoria and this is top 1 by a fair amount. We ate a few different schnitzel and appetizers, recommend them all.
Great German food. Wonderful service. Highly recommend!
Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Hard to ask for more.
Service can be a bit slow when restaurant is busy but otherwise absolutely loved and enjoyed everything we ordered especially the liverwurst brioche even my 10 yrs old approved.
Took my wife here for her birthday and our server performed her job to a very high level... With the exception on my very personal pet peeve: dressed inappropriately! Never, never, never should a staff wear blue jeans and a non-affiliated tee shirt... Black jeans maybe. A branded, black tee shirt maybe. Our schnitzel was super, super fast, and tested great. The decor was very modern/spartan with just a touch of Germany. Just a couple low tables with the rest being stools. Nice experience, but missing something authentic I cant put my finger on...?
Service, interior and food were all completely fantastic. Incredible dining experience! Were gonna come back a LOT
Website was not accepting reservations three weeks ago. I called the restaurant and made a reservation on the phone for Oct 23rd. Showed up and they had no reservation for us and no table. Not impressed!
Not very authentic tasting Schnitzel. It was dry and a bit tough. They use pork instead of veal. The noodles were dry and not tasty at all. The red cabbage was pretty good.
Food was great, small but functional drink list, lights were too bright and music was too quiet but thats probably a frequent point of contention for your average schnitzelhaus enthusiast. Everything we ate and drank was great. Will likely return soon. Vegetarian options: Saw an eggplant schnitzel, hate eggplant so didnt try it but good to include that. Wheelchair accessibility: Most tables are elevated tables.
You will feel like you have just taken a trip to Germany. Authentic food including my favorite - spaetzle!
Great beer and food. Knocked off a star for waiting in the foyer for a while until someone noticed us.
A solid vibe with authentic German style food. If you re after some tasty and authentic German food and beer, this is your best option in the city. The location is excellent, situated just off of Wharf Street. The service is friendly and the vibe is chill. Only downside is that the food options aren t cheap, but the portions are generous.
Would give this place more than 5 stars if I could! Went for my Birthday dinner last night, was my second time at Eva and it again did not disappoint! Ambiance is amazing, service is great and food is 10/10. Will be back!
Amazing service, atmosphere, and food! Our server was super friendly and helpful. The resultant felt super cozy in a cold Sunday night, and the food was just incredible! Can t wait to go back!
Eva - a fantastic schnitzel house! We are working our way through the menu and loving the food and wine here. The SCHNITZEL HOLSTEIN was exquisite. The Chef is very creative.
Fantastic new spot! Great food, great drinks and service is top notch. Recommend literally everything!
Beware this place look nice, but I found soil in my lettuce. I cross my fingers that I wont get sick.
Really good experience, great food and good service for a fair price
Brunch was awesome! Great fusion of Island brunch and German food.
