805 Fort St, Victoria, BC V8W 1H6, Canada
Seafood restaurant featuring Indian-French influenced fusion fare and local libations.
Really wonderful, friendly service. It's a very small place so it feels quite communal, which suits the qualities of the food perfectly. This is the best meal I've had in Victoria for an extremely reasonable price point. The seafood was fresh, perfectly cooked, and everything had a wonderful complex flavour palette. My partner and I have fallen in love with Fishhook and will definitely be back soon!
I accidentally found this amazing restaurant when I visited Victoria from Vancouver. Some of the menu items have ethnic influences. The fish chowder had perfect richness not too creamy. I also had fish and chips, fish balls over rice and crisps. Everything I ordered was amazing. I would love to go back to Victoria to just to enjoy their food. Enjoy😍
The food is amazing and unique! We ordered drinks, the deviled egg tartine, salmon and chips, biryani, and the Cobb salad with salmon. Everything was delicious and the wait staff was great. Highly recommend!!
We had the halibut fish and chips, chowder and salmon belly sandwich and everything was incredible. The staff were friendly and gave us recommendations and really made our lunch as enjoyable as they could. I really appreciate when I see someone passionate about their craft and this place had it all. Best fish and chips we had on the island!
Great flavours and great service! The food was so appetizing with good portion sizes. The staff are absolutely lovely here; they were very helpful in recommending us the cardamom creme brûlée, which was a lovely way to end our meal. One of the staff members even offered to let me charge my phone when he noticed that my battery was getting low while helping to take our photo. Thanks so much for going above and beyond!
The food is good here will be an understatement. We ordered salmon and halibut fish and chips, their famous belly sandwich, fishhook chowder and seafood hotpot. Each and every item tasted heavenly and great portion size. The server was very pleasant and attentive. The chef (Mohit) was greeting guests personally and giving great suggestions. Highly recommended!
We went here because of the reviews and it lived up to the ratings. Great food with amazing flavors. This place is nice and on the smaller end, but the service was good and the place was clean. We ordered the fried chicken for the kids and really enjoyed the biryani. The service was pretty good too and we sat outside in the little patio area. Overall a good experience for Indian food with a French flair.
The very positive reviews we read about the restaurant while planning our Victoria trip had our expectations high. We had it on our to-do list on our Victoria visit in May 2023. We were glad to make it there for lunch just before our return trip from Victoria. Fishhook went beyond our expectations. We had ordered the Biriyani and The Pondicherry. The flavors were unique and perfectly blended. Never before had we loved salmon so much. Update: Visited the restaurant again on our second trip to Victoria in May 2024. We repeated the same order as last year. The deliciousness remains more or less remains the same, although we did feel that the biriyani was not as spicy as last time. Update: Visited in December 2024 again. The experience was great as always. The Biriyani was back to its best this time. And loved the Pondicherry maintained its consistency. The staff were friendly and attentive.
Fishhook is a wonderful spot for unique, French-inspired Indian seafood dishes. The seafood koftas on chickpea curry were outstanding, and the catch-of-the-day cod was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The staff was warm and welcoming, making the experience even better. The restaurant is small but cozy, with a great atmosphere. Truly unique food. Highly recommend!
Why eat here? The fish is fresh and ordered daily. Spices are roasted in house for the maximum flavour. The seafood and always perfectly cooked and expertly seasoned. I am passionate about great food and this is where I go to celebrate flavour. I cant recommend it enough- YOU NEED TO TRY IT?
Weve walked past this place a number of times wanting to try it, but its always been busy. We decided to have dinner and Im glad we did. The food had really good flavor, and the right amount of spice. I love that they embraced seafood, it was fresh fish and squid, nice and tender. The servers were excellent and the place was clean and well kept. Definitely would recommend.
Delicious fish and chips and the staff was so friendly and accommodating to us and our kiddo! Kid-friendliness: They were very helpful with making room for our stroller and getting a highchair for us:)
The food is delicious, specially the fish soup! Also the salad that comes as a side of the fish and chips is amazing!!
Went for the first time and it was fantastic ordered fish and chips and wow my family and Zoe will be back.
The claim chowder & biryani rice was excellent! Great spot for lunch
Amazing food and service. We were sharing food and everything was served properly to accommodate us. The quality was superb and the staff were professional. Will return to this place for sure.
The food is excellent very interesting menu. I love the tuna melt and the chowder
One of the best in town. Great people, creative, fresh and delicious food. A must for us whenever visiting Victoria.
This place is a walking distance, and i decided to try it after 3.5 years of living in Victoria. Chowder is nothing special. Red Fish Blue Fish is light years better. Pondicherry was great. Fishhook Poutine was good, one piece cod. Was it worth it? Yes, minus the chowder. Server was great. Service was quick.
Koftas were the highlight, but really everything was delicious. Very unique flavored seafood dishes.
Great little spot!
Delicious chowder!!
Casual hole in the wall find that is always busy. Cosy tables and quick service allow for timely rotations. Hearty chowder with interesting seasoning reasonably priced. Generous portion of dark fried fish and chips were a tasty choice. Cobb salad was fresh and crisp with shrimp and lox.
Tried fish and chips there. Food was not up the mark. very bad taste
Awesome food. Service was ok as I did not feel we were tended to within respectable time. The service was also different for each customer as some were observantly hand held more than others. Food was good to make up for it. Small restaurant that was very busy. Make a reservation even on week nights. Vegetarian options: Great selection of vegetarian options
Food was great! Indian and other countries fusion dishes, is just awesome. I highly recommend it!.
Awesome
We went for happy hour. Everything was delicious! The service was excellent and our server was great for answering questions about the food.
What a little hidden gem in Victoria! We had a wonderful evening with really fine food and great service - thanks for the great recommendations! If we had stayed one more evening, we would definitely have eaten here again.
Great unique taste seafood dishes with Indian-French influence.
Yum yum yum. Fresh halibut dish was perfect.
If I could give Fish Hook 10 stars I would! The food was so delicious that after trying them for dinner we came back for lunch the next day. I called to see if I needed a reservation, and they remembered me by name and reserved our same table without me mentioning anything. The staff is awesome. The food couldn t be better, and the atmosphere is cozy and warm. Definitely a highlight of my Victoria dining experience.
Delicious food, super friendly staff and fast service!
French/Indian fusion was the combination we never knew we needed. The food was delectable. Server seemed new but to no fault of their own. They werent super knowledgeable about what was on the menu but were friendly and kind and totally willing to get the info for us which was a real treat in the city. Wholly recommend both the seafood poutine, the fish and chips or the chowder. Itll give your tastebuds a ride.
Service was good but food was pretty mid.
So much love and skill from the chef Mohit Bisht, his assistants and a waiter make this menu so different from a typical Indian cousine. It isnt Indian fusion - except for a fusion only a culinary master can create, nor it is Indian-French or Indian-Indonesian food, as some commentators have suggested; it is a northern Indian cousine from the furthest reaches of Mughal Empire, Tehri Garhwal bounded on the north by Tibet where fall feels like Vermont and spring like Salzburg. Exceptional taste!
Absolutely delicious food and charming restaurant with lovely staff. There were three of us dining and we chose a range of dishes to share as there were so many things we wanted to try- the fish chowder, homemade pickles (all sorts of vegetables), a fish cob salad, fish pakoras and of course their fish biryani. All delicious! Love the Indian and French influences. Definitely recommend!
Very great place, came to Victoria for a day trip and I will say this place has amazing customer service. Cater very well to your needs, the food was absolutely stunning and perfectly cooked. 10/10 recommend this place.
Best Gluten-free fried Fish and chips ever! Highly Recommend for those with celiac. The Service was Superb! Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free
This is a delightful place with great food and thoughtful service. The seating inside is limited, but we were able to get a seat no problem. Im looking forward to trying more of their menu next time.
At a table for 5, my Mum had a dish that was too chewy, and had sampled a piece of the salmon from my brotherI, the waitress noticed and immediately got a complimentary piece of salmon for ny Mum. I loved the mussels vindaloo! Going back.
I was looking for an outstanding seafood chowder, and I found it at Fishhook. Three of us shared a delicious and very large bowl of chowder, and a serve of halibut and chips, and loved the experience. Mohit is a charming host.
Absolutely loved this place. We had fish pakora, chowder, squid katch (with a chickpea and tomato curry sauce) and byriani. They were all delicious but you just know that whatever you select will be equally as good. Local beers to wash it down and excellent service throughout. We arrived in Victoria too late on Sunday and it was closed Monday so had to wait till Tuesday to try it. It was 100% worth the wait. Don t miss it.
Delicious lunch, the staff was so friendly and gave us great recommendations for food. Prices are very reasonable.
Great experience having dinner here this evening. This is a small restaurant with delicious dishes.
I ve had the opportunity to visit excellent restaurants throughout Asia - Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Bali and Tokyo. The delectable offerings at the Fishook ranks amount the best. The dining experience is nestled within a simply elegant hole-in-the wall ambiance coupled with gentle appropriately attentive service. The menu is equally creative and intriguing. My choice was the sharable Koftas - a small loaf shaped blend of fresh salmon, shrimp and tuna - surrounded in a bowl with a masala curry and a just right spicy sauce. As a side, don t overlook the green or red house salads, each with a house dressing with a spectacular flavor signature. Portion sizes were generous and prices were moderate. A visit to Victoria would be perfect by including a meal at Fishook.
Oh my!!! This was an incredible experience for our group of 4. We were in the area having travelled from the US and vacationing in Victoria for a week. We had traveled all day and were hungry and exhausted. We stumbled upon this looking for a place close by they was open. I called and Mohit took my number and called back to tell me he had a table available for us. We arrived not knowing a thing about the restaurant. We were in for such a lovely experience. Mohit who I m guessing was the owner was very attentive to us. He showed pride in his food and was eager to explain what was in each dish. We were unfamiliar with the cuisine. He made recommendations and even suggested we order entrees and split them. We ordered the seafood chowder and two other entrees. Oh my goodness!! Every thing we ordered was just delightful!! Subtle but definitely different spices blended in such a way that I would be unable to replicate. The chowder had salmon and halibut. The fish in each dish was fresh and tender. Hard to describe each dish order than to say each was wonderful. And the service was amazing. Mohit waited our table and was so very attentive to us!! When someone takes pride and pleasure in what he does he does it stands out. Clearly he was proud of what his restaurant offered. And so he should! We left exclaiming that it was actually an experience and far more than just a good meal for hungry travelers!! Parking: There was a handicap parking spot which we needed but had that not been available it would have been difficult. We weren t familiar with the area at all so possibly there was more park behind the restaurant?
Our server, Mohit, was very friendly and hospitable. He helped us choose the most amazing dishes. We were very hungry, and his flavorful dishes were seasoned perfectly. They warmed our soul and excited our palates. The halibut and fish chowder were delicious. We will definitely make this place a regular stop.
Wonderful meal. I had the chowder, and my wife had the Cobb salad. It was a bit cool and rainy outside, so my chowder was perfect - warm, full of flavor. A good balance of potatoes, carrots, and fish. Delicious. The Cobb salad had a generous amount of salmon as well as plenty of shrimp, and the greens were fresh and crunchy. The service was quick and personal. Mohit, the chef, overheard us making plans for the rest of our stay in Victoria, and offered a few suggestions we greatly appreciated. We have already decided what well order next when we return to Fishhook later this week.
The food here is outstanding! Do not miss the biriyani. Packed with flavor !
My wife and I had an amazing experience and the food is among the best in Victoria. It is puzzling why so many of the negative reviews gave the food a low grade. Maybe it was an off night for the kitchen. Other complaints dont seem to take into consideration the atmosphere. Yes it is small, and may not be the most family accommodating, but not every restaurant is as big as a lot of the other restaurants that cater to tourists. Many small discreet restaurants are the best restaurants. I would suggest making a reservation if you want faster service, or go at times other than peak hours. The menu is clearly fusion, so the dishes are going to have a different take on the conventional version. I suspect at least some of the people that gave this place a negative review may have had expectations about the menu that seems clear to me, but may not have been so obvious to others. Many cultures around the world have their own take on dishes that carry the same name. I wouldnt recommend expecting one thing when the menu says something else entirely. Dietary restrictions: Most items are naturally GF, daily and egg free.
It was recommended by my friend Mridul who works over there. I went there 2 days ago and loved the flavors of every thing we had. Gonna visit again.
I had the seafood hot pot and it was really good real value for money
A culinary experience, the sandwiches are so perfectly assembled and all their dishes are seasoned to perfection
It wasn t my thing, but the wife and daughter liked it. I had fish at chips. It wasn t like traditional fish and chips. And it seemed like the oil that it was deep fried in was old. It gave the fish a bad taste and smell.
I had the belly sandwich and it was hands down THE BEST sandwich I have ever had in my life. Salmon belly, delicious sauce, delicate soft and yet perfectly crunchy on the outside ciabatta. Amazing. And the chowder was delicious. These chefs are actually innovative and creating food that tastes so good that it is hard to put it into words.
Great combination of classic fish & chips with Indian cuisine. Very nice team!
The service was just about awesome, along with the delectable fare served for dinner- the entire experience was just unforgettable. Mohit was passionate and listened to our needs and recommended the right meal for us. Daniel was an excellent server. Overall we walked out with a great deal of satisfaction
Fun place for a healthy and delicious meal!
Food is amazing! Poutine is the best in town!
Loved the biryani and seafood hot pot!! Ended up ordering more for take out after :)
Tastey fiid, very hot for us
PSA: this is Indian-French style seafood, not Indonesian. That being said it was delicious! Food : 5/5
I had a nice bowl of pho here
I went with my husband. We had a wonderful experience. The seafood Biryani was amazing. We also tried the daily khatch halibut which was delicious. Chef Mohit and his team were very welcoming and attentive. Highly recommended.
Speciality fresh fish restaurant with an Indian twist. I had the halibut and it was really good.
Amazing fish and chips! Halibut was cooked perfectly and the unique flavours of their red slaw and tartar sauce came together perfectly. Service was fantastic and friendly. A little short on space but well worth the wait if theyre full.
If you re looking for an Indian fusion restaurant, this is the one! The tables are few, but it s worth the wait.
I really wanted to like this place because I think the concept is very good. I was pretty disappointed in the end. Most of the food (except for the mussels), tasted like watered down versions of Indian food. The server was rude at times, slamming down the card machine we were done eating. Wouldn t come here again, unfortunately.
Best food I ve had yet in Victoria.
We were looking forward to an evening with delicious fish and Indian spices - unfortunately it was a complete disaster. It started with the starter and the main course being served together; the plates barely fit on the small table we were sitting at. Of course half of the food got cold, but that wasnt a bad thing because it didnt taste good anyway... The very expensive main courses were extremely poorly seasoned, overcooked and tasteless. I have no understanding for the good reviews this place has received. After the meal, the card reading machine was immediately slammed on the table, to top off an already very unfriendly service. We left quickly and will never come back.
Great food!
I purchased a seafood chowder to go. They put it in a compostable container then in a paper bag. I put it in my back pack and when I took it out, about 15 min later it had leaked through the composable container and the paper bag and all over my back pack. There was about half left, and to be honest the chowder was meh. And the lemony bagette was pretty meh too. Hugely disappointing.
Amazing! Everything from service, ambiance, flavors, to price-quality ratio was amazing. The lunch combo is such a steal!
The food is spectacular and the service is cheerful and friendly.
Didn t know what to expect but we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Unique fusion flavours , attentive and caring service. Fresh seafood m.
Favorite meal in Victoria! Ordered the chowder, mussel tomato soup, poutine fries, salmon belly sandwich, and cobb salad. All were awesome and the staff was so attentive, kind, and helpful.
Unbelievably delicious. Ive lived in many different food meccas, including NY, LA, and Seattle, and this was an absolutely incredible meal. We shared the vindaloo mussels (the broth was so good we couldnt stop eating it), the fish n chips, and the squimp toast. Everything was so flavorful, well-presented, and absolutely no skimping on the seafood portions. I would go back to Victoria just to visit Fishhook again.
Surprised I was able to get a same-day reservation, because the small space is often impossible to get in at dinner time. The imaginative drinks and our dinner choices were superb. The tuna is highly recommended.
Fantastic take on seafood! Had not been there in 9 years but the memory of our first visit was seared in our minds. Our second visit did not disappoint, true to our recollection.
Referred by hotel staff. Food and service are good. Two kinds of mussels are fresh and delicious. Salad is a combination of smoke salmon, shrimp and greens. Suits for two people.
Food not frash
Their version of fish and chips wasnt for me. But very friendly and fast service!
After reading all the great reviews, we were very excited to dine at Fishhook. We arrived when it opened expecting a huge line but were happy to see no one had arrived yet. We ordered: The Cure Tartine - open-faced sandwich - cured sockeye lox, chives cream cheese, shaved daily pickles, lemon oil drizzle The Daily Khatch - rock cod served over indo-spiced masala and basmati Pekoras - spiced channa-battered vegetable fritters - served with chili-mint raita dip Chowder - thyme-chili roasted potato, coconut milk & smoked fish broth, wild fish confit, celery, carrot, onion, smoked fish garnish, green onion, chili The reason I wrote down the descriptions is because all the dishes were so unique and like nothing I have ever had before. I think The Cure Tartine was the most interesting dish. The Daily Khatch and Chowder were also very interesting. The Pekoras were also good, especially with the dip. I definitely would try to go to Fishhook again if I am visiting Victoria to try some of the other dishes. Fishhook is nothing like anything Ive tried before and I want more of it.
We came here with our two kids (5 and 7) and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The fish and chips were great and the chowder was amazing. Dietary restrictions: Nut allergy friendly
We were first here pre-Covid on a trip to Victoria and loved it so much, I wrote myself a reminder of the name and what I ate. Of course I lost that, but we managed to find ourselves back in Victoria six years later, looking on Yelp for a place that served both Indian food and fish, and we were lucky enough to find Fishhook again. Mohid is a fantastic chef and cooked everything exactly as we wanted, always with a smile, and came to check on us in the outdoor patio numerous times. My rockfish with masala sauce was superb. My husband loved his salmon masala so much. We ll be back our next visit. Thank you Mohid.
Our first time visiting this restaurant . We both had the Seafood Katch of the Day Both the salmon and Halibut with the masala was excellent. The waitress was quite pleasant and attentive . She went out of her way to bring me some coconut cream when I found the dish rather spicy . Also , the manager came to our table to see how we liked our food . I would highly recommend this place .
Fishhook offers an exceptional dining experience with its fresh, locally-sourced seafood and inventive flavors. The warm atmosphere and expertly crafted dishes make it a must-visit for anyone seeking the best of Victorias vibrant culinary scene
Very good Indian food.
Great experience and value! I dined alone ordering one small-size chowder and one fish and chips. The chowder had a home taste to it and the fries were very well-done. The staffs were caring and friendly.
Stumbled upon this place while looking for a lunch spot and am really glad we decided to drop in! The menu was a really imaginative fusion of Indian flavors with seafood and French themes. Really friendly staff and a cute decor!
Wow, what a great service, server is extremely nice and attention. You cant go wrong with their food too, while all other places by the harbor are pricey, this place combines great taste and better prices We got the hotpot and the tuna melt Food : 5/5
They forgot to put the tuna in the tuna melt. It was just burnt broccoli on a lot of bread. They didnt offer to remake it or a refund. Not coming back.
Love this p,ace. Every dish is a surprise.
In a week of good meals on our visit to British Columbia this was our best meal. Chef Mohit Bisht delivers creative, well executed and extremely tasty dishes. We enjoyed cod pakoras, seafood chowder and the biryani. The desserts were great also, as was the spicy Caesar- Monica s all time favourite Caeser!
Vindaloo d seafood hotpot utterly amazing!
I came to this place because I was recommended by Reddit to try their chowder and fish and chips, and I left very disappointed. The fish and chip portions were very small compared to other places I ve tried. As a big fan of Indian food, the Indian-French inspiration did not come through to me at all. It tasted more like bland food with a dash of Indian spice. To describe the chowder in one word, I would say whatever . The owner described it as a fishhook speciality , so I was extremely excited. Only for the first bite to come with a dash of disappointment. The smoked fish was a nice touch but the base of the chowder did not come through for me in terms of flavour, texture, and spice. Overall, the food was mid and pricey. I would not come back again given all the other options around Victoria.
Nice selection of fresh seafood
We were not sure when ordering because we were not familiar with the food. Everything we ordered was amazing!
The bad first... I hated the food. My cod fish n chips were too fishy and the masala fries had no flavor. The good... (and why I gave 4 stars) my sister loved her fish n chips.
Quite a diverse menu of delicious food. The service was attentive and those small the restaurant is quite attractive.
the food was not impressive... squid was tender and good but the curry sauce tasted like some sweet dressing from a grocery store :( wouldnt go back, sorry
Three sisters & one brother visiting from US dined at Fishhook for dinner. We actually were looking for salads but then we saw Fishhook and thought it might be interesting. The menu was a mystery but the Chef clearly explained their take on traditional foods including the ingredients and cooking methods. We all chose the Pekora Cod Fish & Masala Chips. Pekora indicates the batter was gluten free and masala is a spice combo dusted on the crisp French fries. Both were excellent! We re all Fish & Chips aficionados. In addition, the meal included a great cabbage slaw and a delicious remoulade for dipping. Ketchup is offered if preferred. They served locally made Phillips cola and ginger ale which were great. If you want traditionally prepared foods, this not the place. But if you re interested in trying some new versions of old favorites, give it a try. Service was outstanding!
We love the vibe of the place. Server/host were very accomodating in setting up our tables as we were a gr of 4 adults with a toddler. Everything we ordered was a delight to our palates. We all love Indian food and appreciated the light hint of spices in all the dishes! Well done chef!!! Vancouverites, when in Victoria, dine at FISHHOOK
Ridiculously good value and huge portions. Two of us got the biryani, poutine and koftas. We re taking half the biryani home for tomorrow s breakfast! Also got a large glass of wine and spent <$100 including a decent tip. Well worth a visit if you want a different style of local seafood. N.B we phoned an hour before to reserve a table on a busy Saturday night. We probably didn t need to but if you re a larger group definitely give some notice.
Very interesting combination of different cultures! For sure, not the classic fish restaurant. If you like to try some exotic food combinations, then this is the right place for you. The staff and the ambience are very friendly.
Amazing food. Best place to try seafood. Perfect outdoor seating and friendly staff. Biryani was too good
The squimp toast is really well balanced. The bread, the filling the tiny bit of spiciness was just right and none of it was tough to eat.
Highly recommended and wonderful
Ordered the seafood hot pot and was disappointed. The seafood was nothing special, it was very light broth, and didnt have much flavor. Wasnt a very filling dish and wouldnt say it was worth it considering the price. However, also got the cobb salad and it was really nice. Ordered thr small but it was still a big portion of salad with smoked salmon/baby shrimp and the dressings are tasty!
The Biryani was excellent and a good portion, the squid the best I can recall ever having it was so tender. Very friendly service
Interesting fusion of Indian food and cafe fare. I had the Belly Tartine. I was a little worried when it came and it looked like so much bread. But the sourdough was light and crispy and really lovely. I like strong, spicy and sour tastes and this delivered it all. With sauerkraut, pickles, seared salmon belly, arugula and herb mustard - all my favourites. A great place to try something different for fish/Indian/ sandwich inspired fare, in addition to some traditional Indian dishes.
Staff were all very hospitable and provided friendly service with a warm smile. We thoroughly enjoyed the food the as well. The squid in the buryani rice stood out for me as it was really tender and delicious. We will definitely dine at fishhook again during our next visit to Victoria.
Their squimp toast is very tasty
I get this every time I come to Victoria! Squid+shrimp.... cant be bad. Thank you for the good food:)
The gluten free fish and chips are celiac safe and have a perfect subtle South Asian twist! The owner was super friendly as well. Dietary restrictions: Safe for celiacs with many gluten free options
So tasty and creative seafood dishes. The seafood kofte was great - make sure you try it with the chutney!
Food was great as our service
Where was the tuna? They recommended the tuna melt but it was just burnt broccoli with cheese. There was maybe a couple tiny dollops of tuna on this travesty, I was highly disappointed. The fishhook poutine was just as bad it was just french fries, cheese and curry. Youd think a place named fish hook would actually have a good amount of fish in their food.
limited menu, average flavors, the server took a little too long to take our order, good but not great overall
One of the best Sea food Restaurants in the heart of Victoria. Great customer service..! Authentic asian flavors embedded in most of the dishes.
Blown away, seriously. Such an incredible combination of NW fish and Indian influences. The humbolt squid and salmon biriani were outstanding, kinda sad I wont be eating them again soon!
Awesome spot...dont change!
Fishhook, simply, is by far the best restaurant in Victoria, with excellent service, kind people and exceptional food, Fishhook is the one place I will recommend to anyone! Do yourself a favour and eat here as soon and as frequently as possible
Outstanding food & service. Lovely, relaxing atmosphere.
One of the best fusion food I ve ever had. Amazing staff. Would recommend for sure
Delicious fresh food, the chowder and Vindaloo mussels were so good!! big portions and a beautifully tasting vegan dessert made from scratch - perfect dinner date. Highly recommended!
I m so grateful to find a gluten free fish and chip shop! The food was phenomenal
Definitely lives up to the ratings. Had a really good biryani along with a cozy and great ambience
Very delicious food, seems to be Indian new style.
The Seafood Hot Pot is a perfect share for 2!
Amazing!! So much flavour, loved it!! I got the mussels and my boyfriend got the fish biryani!! We ate it all. The place was a little filled and Im not usually personally a fan of busy places but not in a bad way, you just know they were busy because the food was so good portions, were a good size too
Great food! Fish was done perfectly. The music they had on I knew every single song. I thought that was pretty cool! The guys there were super friendly
Fishhook is TRULY a Victoria staple, the food is unique, and the staff is incredibly friendly. If you re ever visiting Victoria, this is a MUST eat, the food is so tasty! On top of that, they are very accommodating with special diets, the Fish n Chips is celiac friendly, which is incredible! One of the best places in Victoria! They also serve one of the best fries I ve ever eaten, it is a superb experience. Dietary restrictions: Celiac/Gluten-free friendly
Really great Oceanside spot with fabulous fish and chips and from scratch tartar sauce which is a must for me!
Best seafood hotpot ever, just go Food
Very nice service, none of the diners in my party enjoyed their meals
We visited from Vancouver and we enjoyed this meals so much!
We look forward to eating at Fishhook every time we are in Victoria! Never disappoints.
As others went there because of reviews, did not disappoint. Very friendly and attentive service. Great tasting food for a great price. Very flavourful, friendly and worth it
Limited seating. Creative Indian style seafood. Big portions.
Amazing restaurant with delicious dishes for any seafood lover. I have been to both Fishhook locations in Victoria and love the dishes they have on their menus. Everything tastes delicious and is very fresh. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the outdoor seating at the back of this location is a bonus. Service has always been wonderful. One of my favourite restaurants in Victoria for sure! Kid-friendliness: It is kid friendly but more of an upscale restaurant, so I wouldn t bring a large group of kids here. Plus it s fairly expensive.
Elevated flavours above expectations and exceptional service. The belly is the must try - oh soo good.
Amazing small restaurant in the core of downtown Victoria. We will be back! Food
The seafood is so fresh and the flavours of this Indian-French cuisine is delicious. Food is high quality (the mussels were extraordinary) and prepared perfectly. One of the more unique iterations of seafood restaurants in town! I appreciate that all seafood is wild caught/sustainable.
Rediculously tasty and super fair prices.
Exceptional seafood experience! The Belly sandwich was a flavor explosion seared salmon belly, crispy bread, and perfect seasoning. A must-try at this seafood haven.
The seafood chowder is one of best thing. you can feel the soft potato meal in you mouth, plus The owner helped us get food at 9:30am when the store was closed before we left inland.
One of the best restaurants in Victoria - highly recommended. Its a casual place, but very high quality food on par with many fancier restaurants. My favorite thing about Fishhook is the quantity of seafood they give you with each meal. The soups and sandwiches are loaded with fish, so you will definitely leave feeling full.
Had the best cod fish and chips here! Amazing. The Biryani was also delicious! Definitely recommend treating yourself and visiting this restaurant for some great eats! Wheelchair accessibility: On street level so easily accessible by wheel chair.
Amazing seafood! Great menu with something for everyone. They have local beer and cider as well. The fish and chips were great along with the rockfish.
Khatch of the day with the Humboldt squid was really good. The right amount of spice. Squid was not tough at all. Fast service.
The Vindaloo mussel dish was really good. Each mussels flesh was the size of a medjool date and sweet, soft, and fresh. The broth was on the subtle side, but it was very warming and addictive and allowed the mussels to shine.
Great place and unique food.
Don t bother going! Waited 15 minutes outside for a table and then another 10 inside to order food. Approached host at register to place order like sign says and was asked to return to our seat to order. Host never came to take our order and ended up just walking out. Business is truly overwhelmed and understaffed. Food looked delicious but we did not want to wait additional time to place our order and for food to come out. Wish them luck figuring it out.
Absolutely full of flavour! Delicious!
We came here for dinner during a weekend in Victoria and were very impressed! We got the catch of the day with squid which was delicious and we were so impressed with the amount of squid you got! We also got the fish and chips which we commented to didn t leave the heavy feeling in your stomach some fish and chips do. We also ordered their poutine to split, it was delicious and everything blended together so nicely but we were disappointed to only receive one small piece of fish with it.
Delightfully unique - both the food and service. Will come back for sure!
One of the best best fish and chips in Canada!
Great place, great fresh meal, try fish and chips.
SORRY, BUT, THE FOOD IS TASTELESS. I dont know how the google reviews say its super flavorful and bla bla bla. This is the worst I have ever eaten. What is the chef doing in the kitchen? Did you forget where you put the salt or did you not buy any salt? I think the ferrys food is much better than this. Its also overpriced. Based on how it tastes, the price is way too expensive. With the price you charge the customers, you should be able to buy at least 1kg of salt. Salt is not as expensive as truffle. If you have salt, why dont you use it? Do you want to save it till next year to save up cost? Cheapskate! DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT!!
The food was bland.
Food was amazing. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked
Delicious meals, lovely staff, great for a quick stop with friends or family. Dietary restrictions: Gf and df options Food : 5/5 |
Really, really fantastic seafood restaurant just a block off the main tourist area. The owner chatted to our table, walked us through the menu, and had a joke with us, which was lovely. I m a huge fan of Indian flavors, and this didn t disappoint. A good mix of Indian spices with some French technique. The chowder was awesome - light yet rich. Our table had three different mains - all were excellent, and reasonably priced for the quality. Fish Koftas were awesome. Really solid chickpea curry under it all too. Will certainly be back. Heard about the place from a locals channel on Reddit.
Just didnt enjoy the food much
Chef Mohit and their entire staff provided amazing service. The Biryani, fish & chips, clam chowder, and kofta were absolutely amazing. Great atmosphere for the entire family.
Typical Indian cuisine bistro. The fish chowder was good, the catch of the day and the salmon were a little dry. The chocolate cake is good. The cocktails are undrinkable: tomato seasoned WITH SHRIMP! and a similar gin tonic with chlorinated water and imperceptible alcohol.. Random cleaning Attracted by the positive reviews, I was disappointed, although the service was friendly and prompt even with messaging.
Absolutely delicious food-flavorful and fresh with personal touches to the presentation. A family supported restaurant that provided us with an exceptional experience. The broth for the Vindaloo Mussels was tasty with a lovely amount of spiciness. We look forward to our next meal at Fishhook! Special thanks to Mohit Bisht and his beautiful wife.
Was there recommended by relatives. Food is great, staff very friendly and helpful.
One word . Delicious!! This could be my wife and I new favourite restaurant. Both of us are foodies and eat out atleast twice a week due to our busy schedules. Friendly staff and amazing food. Only been there 3 times thus far but it was superb and above and beyond every visit. We plan on turning this into our go to fav eating place downtown Victoria. Everyone needs to try this restaurant out. They will be blown away!!!
Im a big fan of any gluten-free, dairy-free fish & chips I can get, but this place was absolutely amazing! There was this wonderful flavor profile that resembled what Id get if I were ordering an Indian fish curry, but the batter on the cod was crunchy and delicious; they reminded me of pakoras. The fries also had some delicious spices on them and the dipping sauce it came with complimented the flavor profile very nicely. The portions were pretty generous, I couldnt finish everything. Reasonable pricing considering its seafood in Victoria. Ill definitely come by again next time Im in town!
The best seafood restaurants in DT Victoria, reasonably priced and good tasting food.
Excellent food, well prepared. Friendly staff, great service!
The restaurant is very small and very loud. The tables are very close. The bathroom was not very clean. The chairs the upholstery was ripped and needs to be replaced. Food was fresh and tasty. The servings are good size. I dont think I will be rushing back. Who knows how clean the kitchen is?
We enjoyed a wonderful evening at this restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was exemplary. I don t think I could recommend this more highly! Dietary restrictions: Coeliac friendly with gluten-free food readily available. Knowledgable owners.
Staff not fair. We arrived before 8 PM but kitchen is already closed. No will to be friendly.
Great service, good quality food but you need to like the spices they use. I recommend trying it
I am celiac and rarely can I order fish and chips. Absolutely fantastic! Dietary restrictions: Tons of gluten free options. Food : 5/5 |
All the food was great but the masala poutine was amazing! The service was super friendly! Will be back soon!
the tuna melt was good, big portion but not too heavy on your stomach. the tuna tasted really fresh and the roasted broccoli added an interesting twist. not sure what the purée was but was good
Phenomenal food. The seafood poutine is to die for. Took my mom here for her birthday and they made her a birthday dessert on the house. I take all my visiting guests here!
Delicious food. Had biryani and The Daily Katch with rock cod. Great flavours. Will be back.
Amazing fusion!
My husband and I were looking a place that served great seafood chowder. The Google reviews were great but unfortunately the Fishhook chowder was tasteless and had very little fish in it. Neither one of us finished our bowl of soup and it wasn t due to the size. The toasted side of bread was very good. This is the first time I have ever gave a one star review for food.
Great seafood hot pot!
Such a gem! We ate here on the recommendation of one of our whale watch tour guides and were so pleasantly surprised. The food was flavorful and unique and the service was fast and attentive. We ll definitely make this a go to stop whenever we re in Victoria!
They have a gigantic fish chowder of a size that made me giggle. Absolutely delicious chowder. This is the best fish and chips I have had in my life. The flavors are impeccable and I cannot imagine anything better.
Very good meal in Victoria. Halibut catch of the day was the best dish we had. Chowder little dissatisfied but overall very good flavor, too runny for my taste of chowder. Pekoras were good as well. Slight hint of Indian cuisine in every meal, very well done.
Great food and great prices and portion sizes. Food is fast and fresh, and the service is friendly.
Great option for gluten free eating, especially the fish and chips
Got the daily khatch with the salmon and my wife got the squimp toast and chowder. All 3 were EXCELLENT and flavorful.
Ok. Yes the chowder is different here, but in the best way! It was so flavourful without the heavy cream-like consistency. I loved their take on seafood: fusing Indian elements and using fresh local fish. The service was friendly and informative. Our waiter explained how they utilize every part of the fish to contribute to several dishes. The menu had enough options for every pallet, food restriction, and budget. The space is charming and is not meant to seat a swarm of people, which I prefer. I would highly recommend a visit!
Very good quality food.
Wonderful fusion of Indian and seafood. Great flavors with high quality seafood. Small neighborhood business run by people who are very friendly, patient and helpful to make sure you are happy with your food. We are working our way through their menu and have had several wonderful meals.
Had the fish and chips. Choice of cod or halibut. I had the cod and it was great. Fries were fantastic. No tarter sauce. They did offer a remoulade sauce that was better on fries than fish. Overall a very satisfying meal.
This place is Pacific Northwest with an Indian take on it. I absolutely love the fusion cuisine that is presented and the people here are quite kind and go above and beyond with service. The cod was cooked to perfection. Not oily at all. I had vindaloo mussels and also had a portion of seafood chowder. Flavor wise you will leave satisfied tasting all the flavors. If I come back to Victoria, this is a place I would come to.
Excellent food and fantastic service. Mohit is wonderful!
