We loved the lamb skewers and stewed chicken with black fungus! Lots of authentic options with great flavours.
Best kebab (skewers) in town so far I have tasted in town. All the skewers were well cooked, juicy, and full of flavors. Octopus 🐙 and Lamb kebab was best 👌 Highly Recommended!
This is now my favourite restaurant in Victoria by far. We tried lamb, gizzard, chicken knee, beef esophagus, and grilled squid skewers. Every single one was fantastic, with the chicken gizzard being the standout. The oil spill noodles were one of the absolute best dishes I’ve ever had in my life. Absolutely outstanding. Additionally, we ordered the grilled fungus and lamb vermicelli and they followed suit and were delicious. Our server, Maggie, was very sweet and explained to us everything we were ordering to make sure we knew what we were in for. The chef/cook in the kitchen was also kind when we thanked him for the excellent meal he had prepared. Everything was reasonably priced for the amount of work that goes into making the food, as well as the generous portions. We will be eating here any time we are nearby, I cannot say enough good things. Thank you for the great meal!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a skewer restaurant in Victoria, and I can't recommend it enough! The northern Chinese cuisine here is incredibly authentic. Everything we tried was top-notch. This was our second visit, and so far we've enjoyed the lamb skewers, chicken skewers, shredded chicken with green peppers, stir-fried mushrooms with potatoes and rice, and beef noodle soup. Each dish was not only authentic but also bursting with flavor. The skewers, especially the shredded chicken with green peppers, were simply divine. The service was pretty good as well, adding to the overall positive experience. Additionally, the prices are reasonable considering the generous portions. Having lived in China and with my wife being Chinese, I'm thrilled to find such authentic northern Chinese cuisine in Victoria. It means we no longer have to travel to Vancouver when we crave real Chinese food. Our only regret is not discovering this gem sooner. Five stars all the way through!
Food was spot on👌🏼 really tasty and service was excellent
The customer service is amazing, they’re very friendly and welcoming. I definitely recommend the chilli oil noodles, lamb skewers, and chicken wings. My only complaint is that the lamb soup lacked a bit in flavour and looked watered down. That being said its great knowing there is a skewer specialized restaurant on the island and not only on the main land.
It’s so hard to find skewer places here in Victoria but I stumbled across this hidden gem! I came here with my boyfriend for a late night snack and ordered the chili oil noodles, and skewers. As for skewers we got the chicken gizzard, lamb and beef core. Everything was really good and the server was really nice. The only reason why we rate it a 4 is because our skewers were a little cold and we thought that medium spice for our noodles was spicy but it wasn’t. Overall we would definitely come back again and order the chili oil noodles but hot the next time and try the other skewers they have to offer! I would definitely recommend the noodles and lamb skewers :)
The skewers were flavored so well, a mixture of savory spicy and cumin. We got chicken gizzard, lamb and chicken knees. The spicy beef tripe vermicelli soup was okay; the taste was a bit bland but the spice from the chili oil was a lot for us we were choking on each swallow! We saved the soup for hot pot at home the next day, and that really took our broth to the next level!!
The lamb soup noodles are great, as are the skewers and rice plates.
Great food with friendly vibes.
The place was amazing! The staff was nice and the food gave me taste of what it was back in China. 5 stars!
Tasty and authentic food! Recommended...best of all, a restaurant in Victoria open late, bravo!!!
The food was delicious and the service was quick. Kid-friendliness: Welcoming to children Food : 5/5 |
We were searching for somewhere new to try and the skewers intrigued us. It was quiet on the Wednesday night we were there but we were convinced to give it a try by two people there who interacted with the staff in Chinese and said it was good! We had lamb and chicken thigh skewers, the garlic chili oil noodles (hilariously listed as oil spill noodles ) and the cumin squid. It was all very tasty! The cumin squid we found a little disappointing but would order everything else again. Lovely staff. Very reasonably priced drinks!
What a treat to have this regional Chinese restaurant in the neighbourhood. Favourites are: cucumber salad, bbq lamb skewers, oil spill noodles and spicy dry hot pot.
I spent years in Xinjiang province in my early 20 s and had yet to find a Chinese restaurant in Canada that produced these flavours. I came to eat here after walking by it a few times and being curious. This is a hidden gem and I m surprised it s virtually unknown to my white friends in town. If you are looking to experience Northwestern and Sichuan flavours melded into absolute perfection, look no further. Recommendations are the spicy hot pot, lamb skewers and oil spill noodles. Would love to try their da pan ji but it has been unavailable on my visits. 10/10, will keep going back.
Good lamb soup
Incredible meal, staff was excellent. Will definitely go again.
It tastes pretty good, but it would be better if the food could be served faster and the noodles could be larger in portions.
I have been curious about this restaurant for a long time, and finally had the opportunity to eat there. The decoration in the store has a very Chinese feel, and the waiter is also very friendly and enthusiastic. You can feel that he really cares about the customers. For example, he advised the three of us not to order for six people hahaha. The large plate of chicken tastes great, the chicken is tender and flavourful, the potatoes are soft and glutinous, and the chef even gave us a side dish! You can choose the spiciness of the spicy hot pot. Because I brought a friend who cant eat spicy food, I chose mild spicy, but it still received unanimous praise from three people. There are many ingredients to choose from, but to be fair, the price is a bit high. I can t accept 5.99 for a portion of bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms or potatoes. For the sauced beef tendon, I followed my brother s recommendation and chose the mixed sauced beef tendon. The ingredients were well mixed and the finishing touch! Cumin Chicken Knee Fried Rice was originally the meal I was most looking forward to, but the actual taste was a bit disappointing for me. I originally thought it would be dry and fragrant, but it turned out to be a topping of fried chicken thighs, and there were a lot of onions and green peppers in it. The seasoning did not taste like cumin, but had a strong sour vinegar flavor. Overall, the experience is very good. The good reviews can cover up the shortcomings of some dishes. I will go there next time to try the lamb soup and barbecue!
very salty and expensive. 2 lamb skewer for $9?? Salty and expensive. The store was still very crowded.
The lamb soup here is delicious, and the staff provide good service
A nice place to have Chinese style skewers
Try the lamb skewers. Amazing ! They are not open on Sunday and Monday which is disappointing. Food
Delicious skewers, try them all! Very flavourful with moderate to high spice available.
This is one of my favourite place in Victoria.
There are raw meat pieces at the end of the skewers. The lamb and chicken cartilage is raw, still can see the blood inside.
Its rare to find a good Chinese restaurant in Victoria. very nice. Everything is delicious. Just a bit expensive. Its okay to come once a week.
Getting Authentic Chinese. Northwest cusine - Xinjiang lamb skewers with a bowl of noodle lamb soup. mm-mm-good.
The skewers are delicious and the price is reasonable.
SO FLAVOURFUL, so good. Staff are lovely and accommodating. AMAZING Vegetarian options, I want to eat here everyday
Excellent! Nice meat on a stick for late night snack.
The money is really good nowadays, 100 Canadian dollars for a box and a spicy hotpot with chopsticks on one side. Aren t you afraid of eating out in the middle of the night? Arent you afraid of going bankrupt if you do this business? Making this money without conscience? Don t be a repeat customer! It s all a one-time business, and making one batch is one batch, right? When youre done, you close the door and leave, thinking that nothing has happened, right? Then take a good look at this amount. Dont even order takeout. Theres no need to eat this crap. Full of anger
Very good dining experience again, the mutton noodles are very good
The barbecue tastes very good, the fried noodles are generous, the spicy flavor of the beef tendon is also very delicious, and the service attitude is also very enthusiastic. I will go there next time I go to Victoria
Every time I finish eating, I think about coming back next time! tastes really good
It s always too salty...the taste is too simple
love this restaurant, the service was excellent, and the mixed spicy pot worth to try
This is my favourite restaurant ,very suitable to come with friends. Their bbq skewer are amazing and naan with lamb soup.My biggest favourite is the big plate chicken, Its so good to go with rice. Love the service, very worth to try it out if you haven t!!
I used to have a bowl of mutton noodles in the evening when I had nothing to do.
Can t fault this restaurant. Top quality authentic Chinese cuisine and a good variety of dishes.
Pleasantly surprised! Hard to find good regional Chinese cuisine in town. Oak Bay prices tho.
Wow! A unique and amazing experience. Food was delicious. Owner was fantastic and friendly. Apparently most of their traffic is out of town visitors who have heard if the place. Not sure why there are not more locals though. Authentic food that you will come back for. Take out and delivery also available.
The food was absolutely amazing, especially the prawn skewers! We had prawn and chicken thigh skewers and both were spiced beautifully, we also had the Cumin spiced Squid which was DIVINE. If you like spicy food, and seafood, definitely try it! We also had the big plate chicken (which was not a plate but a big caserole dish like pan) full of veggies and chicken, and broth. I didnt like it as much as I liked the squid, but nonetheless, it was delicious as well. Very well spiced (NOT the mediocre white people level spicy, but proper SPICY spicy) You can ask for your desired spice level too actually. Also, the skewers go SO WELL with the tsing taos. We will definitely be back to try more skewers, and the hot pot we couldnt try today.
Sooo delicious!! 10/10
Its a delight to find a restaurant that serves Chinese food instead of Canadian Chinese food. The staff gave me a curious but friendly look when I ordered the odd bits (yes thank you, I know that chicken knees will be crunchy!) Every skewer I ordered was great. (Unfortunately the mapo tofu was a big miss. The old pockmarked grandmother in the sky is shaking her head at anyone who leaves out the pixian douban and ground beef. It was just tofu swimming in an oily red soup. Come on guys!) Anyway the skewers are where its at. Im a big fan so yes, there are locals who know about the place.
not bad
Must recommend the Mixed Spicy Pot. Flavouring is so good and the mix of veggies that soak it up are great. Anything more than medium spice would probably melt my mouth. Enoki and Bean Curd Sheets favourite ingredients.
The mutton noodles are very good. They taste very good. They are the same as those in China. The mutton skewers are also very good. The attitude of the waiters is very good. Highly recommended.
The food was good but a bit overpriced. It was almost impossible to find their menu. The menu on Tutti has no pictures or descriptions and even not accurate so it was hard to imagine what we were gonna get. I hope to come back to try the hotpot after this virus thing is over
Great flavors and seemed authentic to me, its definitely worth a try. Some reviews are saying its overpriced but Id disagree. You get what you pay for.
Delicious! Overpriced small portions. Edit: they dont turn heat on in the restaurant, so be prepared for the same temperature as outside, even in the winter.
VERY TASTY
The food is fantastically flavourful. Absolutely do try one of the group hot pots. Am definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more of the dishes. The skewered grilled squid tentacles were delicious
Shared a hot pot for 4. Absolutely fantastic.
Taste really bad and so expensive. I think I won t be back.
Skewers are good. Everything I ordered has good flavours. Expensive? Yes, but if you add in travelling fees to the mainland for the same type of food, it ll probably round up to the same price anyways. Two things to take note: don t order squid in foil... it s only small bits & VERY small amount. & only chinese menu has hotpot (shabu shabu style). Hotpot on the menu that has English is not shabu shabu style.
Very authentic northeastern Chinese food with Uyghur and Sichuan influences. Lamb skewers were nice but begging to be cooked on a charcoal grill out back. Chicken Jiao Zi were great and served with soy and vinegar as they should be. Chicken heart skewers were great and a cheap eat that goes great with a cold Tsingdao. Mistakenly assumed that Spicy Pot on the menu was transitional broth hot pot that everyone else was having. It is not - super tasty though... definitely get some extra white rice to spoon the spicy ingredients that have been drained of broth and tossed in oil. Hot Pot is on a separate menu (not a Chinese language menu - just a separate menu we werent offered. I asked the waitress at the end of the meal). I make a lot of Hot Pot at home so will definitely be back to compare. Great to have some authentic variety in Victoria.
Food was good, but overpriced. No deliberate attention to service at all during our stay. Staff were just talking and ignoring customers. During the end we paid cash for the meal and restaurant said they had no change and took our money as tip, which is 20% tip, while we only had two people with absolutely no service at all. Staff also never mentioned option of paying by credit or debit, just said no change. Only recommend if your okay with restaurant staff taking your money and giving poor service with overpriced menu items.
Loved this place, really inspired food.
Lamb soups are delicious
Give it a try...really amazing Chinese street food
Be ready to numb your senses. But it sooo good if you decide.
I thought it nearly impossible to find a terrific Chinese restaurant in Victoria. This one, however, blows all of the other Chinese joints in town out of the water, despite or perhaps because of its limited menu. The cuisine is what would be known as barbeque street food in China. The owners hail from Northeastern China, near Russia and North Korea, and not far from Mongolia. This explains the predominance of lamb in the food Muslims make up a large percentage of the population of the region while pork is relatively scarce on the menu. The food is spicy! And it is very good. Many Canadians tend to equate spiciness with an absence of nuance. That is not the case in cuisines that are traditionally spicy, and it is certainly not the case here. If you are constitutively averse to spice however, don t eat here. There will be little you can tolerate. We brought our kids to dine; and although some dishes were too spicy for them, they did eat the skewers and the lamb soup and loved them. Only the adults were willing to eat the wonderful spicy hot pot, which was a blast of whole hot chili pepper, garlicky and savoury flavour. Rice and beer are virtually mandatory at this level of spice and, by the way, we asked for the kitchen to prepare the food as mildly as possible. Asian students are the main clientele here (hence the 1am closing time), but the restaurant is far from a dive. Notes: lamb soup is not to be missed. Also highly recommended is tripe, shrimp and enoki and shiitake mushrooms in the hot pot, and squid skewers. If Victoria can attract and support more diverse restaurants like this, the future is bright.
Delicious!!! We have walked by for a long time and finally went in. We loved the dumplings, hot pot and chicken thighs. It was a busy place. The service was top notch. Cant wait to try it again.
Way too good for how affordable it is !
Very nice place and beautiful people
Taste bad. Wont be back.
This restaurant is absolutely authentic Asian BBQ, nothing fake about it! The food comes in large sharable portions with exotic flavours and meats that make you look twice. A fun atmosphere, game shows on the wall, and a cliental base that suggests the authenticity of the food. This is what it is like to eat real Asian food - not the stuff we have created for our Western palate. Affordable too; a funky gem in Oak-Bay. Go with an open mind, and have fun!
This is one of my favorite Asian restaurant in Victoria. Tasty food and friendly services. I highly recommend the spicy pot, it was very yummy. If you like spicy food, you wont be disappointed.
I checked it out today and originally wanted to go, but I took a break. Seeing so many people commenting, I joined in the fun and commented. Went there a few days ago, four of us, and it felt pretty good. We ordered mutton skewers, chicken hearts, chicken gizzards, yellow throat, enoki mushrooms, grilled eggplant, mutton soup, and spicy hotpot. Anyway, we basically went there in the style of a book. . Advantages: The meat is good, especially the mutton skewers are fresh and tender, feel great, and have endless aftertaste. The spicy hotpot is so spicy and spicy. I haven t had such a delicious hotpot in a long time. It s better than the ones in China . The meat filling of grilled eggplant is really amazing. I didn t expect to be able to make it this way. It s delicious and enjoyable. Their flower rolls are pretty good, with a handmade flavor. Disadvantages: Flammulina enoki mushrooms taste good, but are a bit tooth-filling. But its not as shabby as the people downstairs said. That thing has the same taste when eaten. If you dont eat it, it tastes worse than boiling it in plain water. Its cheap and affordable. The mutton soup is a bit bland. My taste is heavy and the meat is a bit lacking. And that beef tendon, why is it always out of stock? I never ordered it. Price: The spicy hot pot is about the same price as Nadu in Beijing. There is nothing different. As for the skewers, I think it s pretty good to be able to eat such authentic and spicy skewers on the island. Five-star praise, hope to keep driving to satisfy my cravings. NB: Their waiters are all good-looking.
The price didnt show the quality of food. Could it be more expensive and less delicious?
Absolutely authentic Asian BB, great pan fried hot pot. Really busy place.
I was a bit skeptical about the place after reading the reviews but the place turned out to be one of the best Chinese food place i have ever been to . Spicy pot is a must buy and will make you want to come back to this place again and again . The price tends to be on the higher side but the quality of the food justifies it and its in par with rates of other places which offer a similar experience . Dont know about the weirdly named stuff i ate but everything was delicious . I recommend coming here with Asian friends who can help you in selecting some of the authentic Chinese BBQ offered here .
Really weird. The hotpot is a base of hot chili oil, so there is no soup. And I ordered beef tenderloin, but I got chunks of fat instead. Another miscue: I order tofu chunks, yet I received tofu skin ( ). The rice was not even well cooked, so it was really wet and heavy. How do you screw up rice so badly? The hot pot was $32!!! Too hot and too weird. Do they have a weird machine to make everything weird? I hardly even recognized the enoki mushrooms - they took off their heads! It was a very funny experience though and obviously takes a few visits to figure out what would be good to eat. I am glad that it is not another Chinese restaurant that is trying to cook the usual grub. So I hope the English translations on the menu improve and such.
Kebabs are good
Went last night. Really was excited about a new Chinese restaurant in Oak bay that isnt typical Cantonese fare. Pros: the food was really tasty with interesting ingredients Cons: a bit overpriced for what you get. The waitress was very friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. I feel like the amount of food you got for the hotpot was a little lacking for the price
The beer is overpriced but good, the service is awkward but Ok, and the food is quite nice if you are an adventurous eater. Also the hours are great!! My one true complaint is I thought I ordered a tofu and chicken skewer... But it was just tofu in sauce with chicken on top... slightly disappointed but still enjoyed it none the less. Please more veggie options for skewers please!!!
Nice lamb noodles. Filling
Great little place for spicy food lover. Would be better if they had kids menu.
