At the Saxe Point Pub we are dedicated to being the heartbeat of our community, we strive to offer outstanding hospitality, tasty fare, and a warm ambiance where everyone feels welcome. We do not accept reservations.
I had lunch here with a large group of work colleagues. Considering the size of our group, the service was fast. Our lunch tasted fresh and I really enjoyed my meal. We also ordered the Hazy IPA special...what a great deal! My only comment is that it's quite loud in there and it's hard to have a conversation. I would definitely go back.
Had such a great experience here! The service was so friendly and knowledgeable. We had a few desserts and the fish and chips. Portions are a great size and everything was so tasty. Highly recommend.
I have been here several times since they have opened. The staff have been friendly ever time I've visited. The bathrooms have also be clean. I've mostly gone for happy hour and the prices are really good. The food is tasty and I have yet to try any fancy cocktails. I plan on being a regular here.
First visit to this quality establishment, and two months on from their opening, the Pub is showing strength in their style, service, and selections. An enviable patioisbacked up by an appealing and attractive inside pub and dining g area. The food offerings were very enjoyable affordable semi-traditional pub offerings with a touch of originality tossed into liven the mix. Service was very friendly and helpful. The beer selection was good, but would have liked a few more craft offerings and rotator options, but that's a minor critique. All in all Saxe Point is a wonderful and welcome to the Victoria "Foodie" scene! Looking g forward to more visits to this great pub!
Stopped in to check out our new pub in Esqimalt. We were greeted with the most kind welcome. Our server Melissa was absolutely awesome. We chatted, and she made suggestions. Unfortunately, we were there just before closing and just had spicy margaritas. 🍹 We will definitely be back. If this was any indication, this place is a 5 star 🌟 all the way.
A welcome and lovely addition to Esquimalt. Food, absolutely wonderful in both flavours and presentation. The menu is very well balanced with small dishes and large plates. It hits on all notes for the foodie wanting to try something new or an old favorite that they recognize. You can't go wrong with the porcini mushroom Arancini , delightful perfectly made balls of spectacular burst of flavour in each bite. The sauce is well balanced with the perfect amount of black truffle oil. It's a pretty dish that will leave you wanting more. Next we have the smashed potato salad, where to start? This is also my husband's top pick so far. The potatoes were extremely well seasoned with the perfect doneness, each topping complimented the other. Both fine dishes for a hot lunch hour on the patio. Drinks you will find something you like. Great selection of craft beer and big brewery. Cocktails and mocktailas line the menu with fabulous choices and unique blends. Don't forget the wine section with many choices to try. The patio has a fantastic atmosphere as umbrellas cover the tables providing ample shade. Lined with beautiful flowers and a view of the park. Inside has the perfect layout the bar front and centre with the patio wall fully open you catch a breeze while watching your favorite sporting event and enjoying a beverage with friends or alone. The pub is well appointed and comfortably inviting. The staff makes this pub an even better place to enjoy a meal or simply drinks. From the front end, bar and kitchen the staff is top notch. Excellent prices for the caliber of food and drinks served. We will return. Lunch hour get there early as the pub fills up fast. I almost forgot to mention the patio is dog friendly. Please remember they are a new pub and have not been open very long. It gets extremely busy at top hours.
we came in just 4 days after opening. we expected to wait and for there to be some hiccups so more or less just passing this review on to the owners. the burger definitely needs a bit of tweaking! the patty was delicious however our bacon was so overcooked that it was rock hard and we couldn’t even bite into it. the fries were also very undercooked. the dressing on the salad that came with it was weird and didn’t taste like a traditional vinaigrette; this may be a personal preference though. the chicken bowl was really tasty however the chicken just tasted like pure turmeric. like it’s all we could taste (and i love it and cook with it frequently) I would dial that down a bit and maybe add something else to season it with. we will come back in a couple months and try these dishes again as I think there is a lot of potential; I think your cooks just need a bit more experience. will update my review then. also as for pricing I think everything is pretty much on par with the rest of victoria. it’s expensive everywhere. for these two meals plus one soda it was $67 (including 18% tip) all the best to you guys.
Truly fantastic fish and chips - I’ve tried everywhere in Victoria, and I’d say that this is hands down the best. So good that I didn’t even take a photo before I’d eaten half of it! Overall, great menu and excellent drinks choices in a wonderful atmosphere. 10/10 will be a regular!
Last night, we had a retirement/retirement party at the pub, and Aleah and the team made it a very memorable event. The service was spectacular, and the food was amazing. The charcuterie boards were a huge hit. It is so great to have a local pub that can help build lasting memories.
Are office did a christmas party there the staff there where so good and fast . For me i found it a little loud but its somewhere i would try again
We had an absolutely fabulous breakfast/brunch there. Nice pub atmosphere. I dont know what Voodoo magic they did on the potatoes but they were SO good.
This restaurant is a complete and utter rip off. Very small portion extremely high price. Terrible food quality. And poor management. I complained to manager who did nothing. Bad ownership.
Feels like ur in a different world here! really good breakfast and lots of choices for desserts!
Incredible food, service, atmosphere, and drinks. Thank you for an amazing evening!
Good atmosphere and great service, not wonderful food though, went for lunch, tried their poke bowl and my companion had the mini saxe burger special, The special was reasonably priced at $23 with a full burger, fries and salad including a draught beer. Though upon trial and conference with my companion the fries where just good, salad appeared fresh but was also not spectacular, and the smashed idea behind the burger patty was cooked to the point of dryness, like the chef forgot the whole idea of forming patties to retain juice and flavor, it came with a sweet sauce that was the main flavour and an onion ring that dwarfed the patty giving the burger a large size and the whole lunchtime deal a great portion size. My poke bowl was really standard fare, if a very small portion of tuna the carrots appeared dried, like they where grated yesterday, Also at $28 it was very expensive and did not at all live up to my expectations. Overall i belive it is worth another try to try their finer options, but for lunch on the standard menu, they are outrageously expensive.
Love this new addition to Esquimalt! The food is awesome, especially the burgers, and service is great. I especially love the Saxe Point Burger. Ive been there for both lunch, and supper and one of these days I want to try brunch.
Went for lunch and found the place packed, so quite loud. The only seating was at the bar which we dont mind. Staff was running to keep up, food was great! Hubby loved the French onion soup. Esquimalt needed a new pub!
The food and service were excellent. However, I wont go back because it was just too darn noisy. The noise made it impossible to converse normally. Vegetarian options: The french onion soup was very good and filling.
Let me say the food was good and the service was fast, but look, the background music was simply put too loud. Could not hear the person 2ft away, at my table . Takes a lot out of your dining experience if you have to shout at everyone, because someone likes listening to loud piped music all day.
Love this new pub! Weve only had the chance to sit outside, but it was cozy under the heater with the little blankets they offer. The food is decent and the service is quick and cheery. Looking forward to our next visit. Kid-friendliness: My 7 year old felt comfy there and enjoyed the kids burger and fries and a Shirley temple :)
Went there for happy hour with my dad. It had amazing service and atmosphere, with even better food and great prices, will deffinatly be going again!!
Okay, second time around much better and tastier, salad was a little bland for my liking and difficult to eat in their dish but overall pork was good and tender, when you think of pork belly you want some crisp to it too which there was none. Fries were good. The experience was good not too busy but the atmosphere was pub style which was nice.
Saxe Point Public House is an absolute gem in Esquimalt! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and a friendly atmosphere. The staff truly embodies the pubs commitment to exceptional service theyre attentive, efficient, and genuinely seem to care about creating a great experience. The food is fantastic! Chef Leon and his team have crafted a menu that elevates classic pub fare with fresh, local ingredients and a modern twist. Whether youre craving a hearty meal or just a few snacks, theres something for everyone. And the drinks? Dont even get me started! Their selection of craft beers, wines, and signature cocktails is impressive. Happy hour is a must the deals are great, and the bartenders are true mixologists. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual lunch with friends, a family dinner, or just a relaxing drink after work. What truly sets Saxe Point Public House apart is its dedication to the community. They acknowledge the traditional lands they occupy and strive to be a welcoming space for everyone. If youre looking for a fantastic pub experience in Esquimalt, look no further than Saxe Point Public House. You wont be disappointed!
Great service, great food, and lots of choices for drinks. Everyone was really friendly. Will definitely be going back.
Dined in with my children and a couple of friends - the service and food were exceptional! The atmosphere was quite busy and cramped at lunchtime on a Friday, but one could argue that s a positive! Can t wait to try other items on the menu
A group of us stopped in to have dinner before a celebration of life for someone very close to us. Originally we invited 10 people, but only four of Us that showed up. We explained that we were on a bit of a timeline. Once we were seated three people joined us unexpectedly and the front and staff allowed us to move seats so they could join us. They very quickly wiped off another table and moved a table to that one to make a group for seven. We explain that we had a celebration of life to go to, and we re on a timeline. They immediately took our orders as soon as we were ready and even allowed us to pay our bills in advance so we could rush out if need be. I was super impressed with the hospitality we received the food was good and my only complaint is the floors are really slippery.
Thanks it was the perfect spot to celebrate a Friends milestone Birthday. Great food. Wonderful staff. Food
I really wanted to like this pub/restaurant. After we received our food, the server checked in that the food was good and then disappeared. We were completely ignored after that. I think moving forward, I will go to other restaurants/pubs in Esquimalt and Greater Victoria who have proven themselves.
Finally checked out our local. Delicious pot pie. We went on first day of new menus. My fave part was when the hostess sat my son and I and thot we were a couple (Im 42 years older)
I was totally embarrassed! The waitress asked how my meal was. I wanted to be honest and tell her that I didn t feel that my burger resembled a Smashburger which is what was advertised. She seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say, and said that My feedback was important.. So I continued to tell her that I felt a Smashburger, to me, meant a burger that has been pressed down aggressively with spices, seared, and still retains its juices. I told her that I was definitely expecting something other than just a regular burger which I felt I had received. It was obvious that my comments were more judged than welcomed, which embarrassed me in front of everyone. Also, I asked her if the burger came with a side dish . She said yes Salad and fries. I asked her if it would be possible to just get All salad and no fries. She said yes. When my meal came, I got a tiny little bowl of salad Which is what everyone else at my table received, but my friends received fries as well. So in other words, I only received a half a portion of what I should have. My friend spoke up and they brought me another Salad, but once again I shouldn t have had to say anything.
Great spot in esquimalt!
Great food in a nice setting. I like the sports on TV with good music. The server I had ignored me to the point that I felt the need to edit this Google review which used to be a 5 star.
Enjoyed their patio for happy hour. Great service, food and drinks will come again!
Had a lovely lunch - servers friendly and proficient (Kosar thank you!). The food was so deliciously flavourful - more than adequate serving size. It was rainy and the doors were open so I found it a little chilly. Parking: I m not familiar with the area and had difficulty finding a street parking space.
Great place. Very comfortable atmosphere, good service and great food. Loved the Korean BBQ wings.
Had a terrific brunch here on a Sunday morning. Food was great, as was the service
Food
Are here today for lunch. Food was good (not great) but service felt exceptional. The person who greeted us at the front was very friendly and our server Sagar was kind and attentive. The kids menu has nice options and we got coloring pages when we sat down. Highly recommend for dining with children in esqimalt.
We love this place!! Yummy food - friendly staff and great atmosphere!
Patrons feeding the homeless from the patio? Let s not do that.
I am really enjoying the new local pub. The menu isnt huge, but the execution of it is excellent. The chef clearly has high standards as everything Ive ordered has been consistently impressive. A hybrid of traditional pub fare with a unique take that is tastefully done to ensure a great dining experience. The front of house team is awesome as well. Polite and attentive, Ive yet to have a bad experience out of my 5. Drink menu is decent with lots of great beers on tap. The cellar would benefit by growing in size. All said and done, Im happy and proud to call Saxe Point my local pub.
We were a party of four at 11:00 for brunch. We all had breakfast meals. Great food. My eggs over easy were perfect. The potatoes were crisp and the bacon was nice and thick. The sour dough bread was chewy and delicious. Swift and attentive service, at a time when the restaurant was less than half full. Clean toilets and free parking across the street.
Saxe Point is such a charming little joint. They have a very cozy vibe inside, with a beautiful patio for sunny days. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and kind. Dietary restrictions: I have a gluten and dairy allergy and they were incredibly accommodating
Wow We were there last night for my birthday 6 of us had perfect meals drinks and service 10 outta 10
keith!
Way to noisy inside. You need sound baffals. Reminds me of ill covo inside in the winter. Patio service and food rocks!!
Really good & interesting food. Beautifully laid out with lots of patio space. Service was good but a bit slow. They are quite newly opened, so they will probably be better equipped to deal with busy times once they get their feet wet. Overall, I would definitely try this place again. I can see this becoming the new go to go place!!
1 star off for being seated for over 15mins before a server stopped by the table, rest of the experience was great
First time here and I really enjoyed myself. Food was awesome and the beer was cold. Thank you will be back.
Great new pub in esquimalt
This is the best thing to come to Esquimalt! Such great food, amazing service, and a wonderful atmosphere both inside and outside. Perfect for summer drinks on the patio or warm comfort indoors. Parking: Parking is available at various facilities in the area including street parking and paid lot for the city hall.
Our experience was 10/10! Great food! eVERYTHING we got was good. We ordered the Fatoush Salad , the burger and kids meals and literally everything was amazing . Love having a local spot that reaches the downtown calibre for quality !
I had the burger that looked impressive but was lacking in flavour the meat was very dry and flavorless the bacon was very tough my ,wife had the salad bowl with the chicken and once again looked delicious was one note , no flavor the most boring salad she ever had . The service was awesome food came very quickly for how busy it was. Probably wont make the trip back
Stopped there last night with husband and teenage daughter. We didnt hear the text that our table on patio was ready so it got given away within 2 minutes! Opted to try inside, table top was very wobbly and unsafe. Menu to fancy for our teen and the music was Way to loud!!!! Shouldnt need to yell or repeat to the server due to the music. Disappointing and left.
Won t let in at 6:30 pm without ID even stated multiple times we aren t drunk just there to eat
What a great addition to casual drinks and food in Victoria! Welcoming decor, excellent service and yummy food. Be sure to try the burger. Its outstanding!
For all the hype, very underwhelmed.Table was not mounted and wobbly. Very loud, partner couldnt hear me and neither could server. No salt or pepper on table. Slow service. Went before the rush for dinner. Mediocre food - very small food selection. Our drinks came out at separate times. I ordered the muscles which were good, but i do wish they had proper cutlery for it. (Maybe i am picky) Boyfriend ordered the breaded korean bbq chicken with bun, when it came to the table we were surprised it was a burger! Wasnt the best, fries were ok, salad wasnt enjoyed. Never got asked if we wanted a second round or dessert. Didnt even get a bill after asking for one was just given a machine to pay. Definitely wont be back.
Great service, friendly staff, and delicious food! Went for a single beer, but after smelling those nachos, I couldnt resist.... suddenly that one fat tug turned into four, and I left feeling very satisfied. Will definitely return next time Im in the area.
Great place
Excellent and friendly, and attentive service. I had the Buttermilk Battered Korean Sauce Chicken Burger. The accompanying salad was very tasty. A good portion including the french fries for anyone. The burger was nicely cooked, crispy coating, but tender and moist inside. Personally I liked the abundant sauce and hot banana peppers. However, for others who dont like spicy or dont like as much sauce, it could be a bit much - thus my 4 out of 5. In many ways its a typical sports bar with lots of screens to assist the view from various angles and has a heated patio. Also, I enjoyed the active space with lots of people. However, for those who want an intimate conversation or an outing for a young family, this is not the place for you. Thus, my 3 out of 5 for atmosphere. If you like active sports bars with an great selection of drinks, this could be a 5 out of 5 for you. Parking: Although its address is Park Pl, Park in the strip mall parking lot off Esquimalt road.
It s more cactus club and less pub. Pretty standard and uninventive menu. Food : 3/5
Long overdue , we needed a pub in esquimalt , this place hits all the marks, great location, great food, great drinks, all at a reasonable price. Libations I say! Food
Great food, Atmosphere and terrific staff. Love the outdoor table service too. Would definitely recommend Parking: Bus stop right outside the common area Wheelchair accessibility: Easily accessible
Great experience all around. Service was quick and servers made great recommendations to try the Cubano sandwich - delicious! I liked that local beers are offered on tap. The pub that Esquimalt needed!
Ordered a beer and a side of fries (for our daughter), fries never came so we got the bill and left with a hungry kid. Server didn t apologize when we brought it up. Very few vegetarian/vegan options too
I went for lunch today with a dear friend. The pub itself was lovely, the staff friendly and the food it left something to be desired. We actually struggled with the menu. I thought that many of the items were too expensive for what was being offered. A crispy chicken thigh .not a chicken breast, salads that were quite expensive. My friend decided to try the burger I didn t want a burger as I had a burger the night before. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak. Any Philly Cheese Steak is normally thin slices of beef. It looked good presentation wise but my friend s burger was dry and over cooked and my Philly Cheese steak was unlike any I have had before. It was one of the dry hamburger patties cut up in chunks and put in the bun. If I wanted a hamburger I would have ordered one and not paid $24. This is the first review I have done on any restaurant. We were both so disappointed that I felt it was necessary. All I can say is they need to get a handle on the food. Right now they are new and a novelty in the neighborhood but that won t hold if the food is disappointing. Reply to Demian, Thank you for your reply. We did tell our server in depth and she told us she had reported it to management. Also, that it would be brought up at your next meeting. Because you took the time to reply we will try you again and hope that things have improved.
Welcome to Esquimalt! What a great addition to our community!
Great place, great food.
Incredible place and service. Could not recommend it more! The only downside is that the plate I ordered (salmon, mussels & brocollini) was a special, so I can not go there tomorrow and get it haha. Please make it a regular.
Our visit to Saxe Point Public House would be an exclamation point in the day of anyone visiting the west coast and will be a go to destination for locals. It is beautifully designed. The architecture is airy and vibrant with indoor and outdoor spaces that are inviting and welcoming. The art work on display is stunning and features local and indigenous art works as well as photographs which pay homage to the history of Esquimalt. I especially loved that the outdoor patio allows owners to bring their well behaved pooches. This seemed to be a space that beckoned people of all ages especially families, seniors and young people. The offerings were outstanding as well. Our group tried many of the happy hour offerings. Everyones plate was interesting and delicious. it left many of us wanting to come back to try the others choice. Finally the drinks menu was great as well with many local craft beers offered even during happy hour. My family is visiting soon and I plan to treat all to this new gem of the West Coast. Congratulations to the owner, chef and designers!
Great food/drinks, service, vibe and the patio is dog friendly Lanea & Leah are wonderful!
Good service but expensive for small portions. $25 for s small portion of nachos which were burnt with super dry brisquet. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu
Impeccable service from the time the host seated us to our servers. Food was delicious and happy hour specials were generous. Really happy to have a quality local pub. Well done!
My first visit was for a Tuesday afternoon happy hour and this new pub didn t disappoint. Lovely service, delicious food and Strongbow on tap. I ll be back.
Waited 90 min for patio got seated in hot restaurant ..we didnt complain seems manager didnt care anyway ..wasnt that busy
First time here. Nice place but so noisy you have to yell to talk to the person sitting next to you. I had the cottage pie and was very disappointed. If you are going to call something a pie dont serve a plate with a pie filling and no pie crust to be seen. My husband had the Philly cheese steak it was good.
Have been twice since recent opening. Both times very enjoyable. Lovely staff, great food, boss on the floor keeping things running smooth and helping out. All around good vibes. Thank you for believing in Esquimalt
First time to Save Point Pub. It was great! Service was prompt and friendly. Food delicious. Check out out!
Loved the curry and the fritters were incredible. The service was excellent.
Great menu, great food, great service, great ambiance, dog friendly patio!! 10/10 exactly what esquimalt needed try the chicken wings !
Went for lunch today with my girlfriend after a long anticipated visit to this new place in esquimalt, only to be super disappointed with the food. We had the beat salad, steamed mussels and a burger, the food was extremely bland in taste, my burger was cold to the touch, beat Salad was almost tasteless, the mussels were pretty good but had an over powering Paprika seasoning. The happy hour menu was the same price as the regular menu as well. We both couldnt finish our food and walked away extremely disappointed with our lunch. We both agreed we wouldnt ever go back and wouldnt recommend it to any of our friends. Hopefully, being a newer place to eat, they can get everything cleared up and improve the quality of food and make some changes to thier happy hour menu.
This is a great place to go to! I just wish the management would take more time and responsibility to train their staff on how it goes for a start up and the steps to make sure that there is an excellent experience for the customers.
All around, a lovely place to share a bevy and watch the local colour.
On my second visit for lunch I had the seafood chowder and it was one of the best Ive ever had. I also had one of their wonderful moctails. As before, the service was sterling and the ambiance inviting. My friend had the fantastic burger. Also a good choice. This new pub has the vibe a good local public house should have - a contemporary upscale menu catering to most appetites, friendly and prompt service, decent prices and a fabulously cheery and sparkly atmosphere. Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian and gluten free options.
Delicious food. Great addition to the area.
First visit, won t be our last, great experience. Greeted with a warm welcome, admired the inviting West Coast décor and comfortable seating. Our server, Amber, was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. She explained how everything was made in house and told us about the artwork we admired. Our meals were delicious elevated from the usual! We each had one of the brunch specials. They were both flavourful and original. The portions were generous and fairly priced for the quality of the food. We look forward to our next visit!
Our Airbnb host recommended this new spot to us after a long day of traveling. We had the best experience. Our server was adorable and the food was delicious.
delicious food and really fun atmosphere! get a beer tower for the table!
Sat on the patio with the dog. Drinks and food came out quickly and it was tasty! Great service
Tried this new place twice in a week while visiting. All the food was amazing. Cheerful service and a crisp clean atmosphere with a nice patio. Highly recommend.
The food was good. I had the fish and chips, and found it to be tasty, with the fish well cooked, and the fries nicely salted and crisped. It needs a bit of something more to make it great though: maybe its just needing a bit more salt in the batter, a bit more tang in the tartar sauce, something like that. Adding some malt vinegar improved it. The sticky toffee fritters were a very yummy treat to split! Two recommendations: blinds on the west facing windows are really needed. By the evening, the restaurant side is being blinded. I also found the floor inside to be a bit slippery. I would recommend those who are unsteady or at a fall risk consider sitting outside. It would also be much quieter. We found it a bit loud even on the restaurant side. I would say that the menu is not the friendliest for those with dietary restrictions, as the descriptions are not entirely thorough and things like vegan, dairy free, or gluten free options appeared to be limited.
A beautiful lively spot with super freindly staff and an incredibly delicious smoked fish and mussels chowder. Also, Best pint of Guinness in Victoria without a doubt.
Probably because they had just open and were not completely dialed in, but we left before we could even eat due to really poor service. Hopefully Ill be able to update with a more positive review when I try again in a few weeks, when the service is figured out
We went for happy hour on their second day of being open. The cocktails were great, service was friendly and food was good! The patio is also a great place to sit on a hot day. We are looking forward to returning and trying more menu items in the future. So happy to have a pub in Esquimalt!
Vegetarian options: They will work with you for your best option Dietary restrictions: Always ready to help Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly on family hours
A pub in Esquimalt! Yay! Drinks are reasonable prices, not many vegetarian/vegan options but it is still new and what others ordered looked great. We ordered fries and our runner came by with a fry refill! Overall bright pub vibe with a patio, gender neutral bathrooms, and friendly service :)
Beautiful room, outstanding food quality and attentive friendly staff.
Great people watching and super friendly staff. Delicious for dinner too. Welcome to the neighborhood!
Went for my birthday lunch and had a fantastic time. Got in right before the lunch rush. Great food. Amazing staff that went above and beyond for us. Will eat again
Delicious food (the smash burger was amazing, and the chicken burger and beet&endive salad got rave reviews as well) and a nice atmosphere with friendly people trying their best. Its freshly open and it is BUSY, but sitting for 10 minutes before anyone offers you a drink was annoying. When our server did make it to our table, she was lovely and accommodating from that point on. Food came out at different times, with the 4 year old at our table being served last, although she thoroughly enjoyed her noodles&cheese when she got it. Minor gripes: there needs to be some sun shades on those back windows for when the sun is going down. I was absolutely blinded for almost the entirety of my meal, even with my sunnies on. The floors are SLIPPERY. I almost wiped out walking to the bathroom, and our table and chairs were sliding around with any minor pressure. It was super annoying. Oh, get the sticky toffee fritters. Thank me later. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu for food but no kids drinks posted on it. My poor server was very confused when I asked for a small glass of milk. I felt bad.
Very tasty food. Had the beef burger and really enjoyed it. Only thing was the side salad was a little bland but besides that flavours for everything else was great! Service was on the slow side, but it was to be expected given opening week and we went during the dinner rush. Most likely will be back again down the line, once some of their opening operational kinks have been smoothed out.
Place was busy took a while to get service. It s nice overall but I wasn t that impressed didn t get water prior to meal had to ask, my cocktail was nothing special $15 I can make a better one at home. Meal was good though. Service was less than impressive. Nice addition for locals in the area but I won t go back. Pretty $ for what we ordered. Many other places in town I could have spent 50% less and would have been more satisfied. C-. Vegetarian options: Some good looking salads.
Lovely had the braised short rib nachos.perfect portion for me as a dinner n delicious service was fantastic, very friendly.shall b bak
Great atmosphere and friendly service but two drinks, spaghetti and a Cuban sandwich costs $100. Also, they use plastic straws?? Our vegetarian friend enjoyed her appies but there are no vegetarian handhelds or mains. Vegetarian options: None other than one salad and a few appies. No vegetarians mains. Would not recommend for dairy free or vegan allergies. Dietary restrictions: Cannot accommodate dairy allergy and if vegan I don t think there s anything other than one salad.
Genuinely one of the worst meals I have had in a long while. Got the nacho, which came out to my surprise soggy and mushy due to the puddle at the bottom of the skillet. Had nothing but high hopes as it s such a great location, looked great inside, and service was great. It literally needed to be average quality food for it to be a win due to all the positives. Unfortunately, at $36 for a pint and one of the smallest portions of nachos in the city it wasn t even remotely good enough.
Delicious food, great service, amazing patio (which is also dog friendly)! My friend and I had a great experience. Ill definitely be back again! Also, the buttermilk chicken thigh burger with Korean BBQ sauce is probably the best chicken burger Ive ever had! Ive noticed reviews saying that there are no vegetarian options besides appetizers and salads but there are also 2 options in the Handhelds section of the menu and 1 option in Large Plates. Vegetarian options: Im not a vegetarian but I noticed vegetarian options :)
Update: 15 Jul 2024, the owner reached out to me and refunded the nachos and fish and chips and apologized. Also said he would talk to the staff about how my issue was handled. Ill give them another try. I was super excited to try the pub and the food, especially the fish and chips. We ordered a few random items from the happy hour menu and I ordered the fish and chips. The food came out one dish at a time even though we let them know that it was meals, there was at least 10 - 15 min between each dish and not once could we eat food at the same time. The first 3 items were very good, then came my dish and chips. The fish was burnt and acrid tasting, I had no choice, I had to do what I hate doing, send it back. In the mean time they brought my sons last dish, the happy hour nachos that were so spicy my son (who is not shy of spice) could not eat them at all. Then they brought out my order and they only gave me a piece of fresh fish, the fries were the original fries and ice cold. So I literally paid $20.50 for one piece of fish, and they still charged us for the inedible nachos. I brought this to the attention of the waitress, and the manager and all I recieved was in insincere apology. I get there is issues to work through when you just open a place and I was willing to overlook it, but to still be charged for inedible and ice cold food is wrong. Not sure I want to go back and waste another $85
The only recipe that results from restaurant owners offering sub-average wages: inexperienced staff and deplorable service. Flatten out the kinks fast SPPH or youll be sunk in short order.
Great addition to the neighbourhood! 4 stars due to the slightly limited food menu & few options for people with dietary restrictions, but both food and drinks were delightful. Will absolutely be back!
This pub is exactly what Esquimalt needed! Food was yummy and service was great. One request though is to have a veggie burger on the menu :)
Went for my birthday dinner. Worth it! Great food. Excellent service. Good value. (Portions were ample.) Dog friendly (on the patio). Their Drambuie flavoured Crème Brûlée = Drambrûlée was AMAZING!
Great atmosphere, great food, and good service all-around. I will say the food is quite pricey. I really wanted a salad, but I couldnt justify paying $18.50 for the greens alone, then $9 to add protein. I ended up getting a grilled cheese sandwich, which was delicious with two sides but I left still hungry, unfortunately.
Amazing new pub in Esquimalt. Burger was excellent. First class service. Highly recommended
Saxe point public house, A friend mentioned that they had lunch at this place, as well as stating they didnt like the food experience we decided to try regardless. We decided to try due to popularity. However that being said, after waiting 35 min outside. We ordered the burrata, for 26 dollars. That apatizer came with only two slim slivers of a baguette? Thats insane. So much cheese and pesto for the tiny bit of bread. Second courses, steamed mussels and the burger. The fries with the burger where ice cold, stale. My wife got the mussels and couldnt open a quarter of them. When expressed to the staff we were told that they could not comp anything. As the food was running evey 10 min. That is the problem !!! Cold, stale, not edible! Very sad. Busy location,, horrible quality. Save your money, save your time.
Esquimalt finally has a winner!!! Food was great and the price was reasonable We will definitely be back Food : 5/5
We had a wonderful dining experience at this awesome new (long-awaited) pub!!!! From being greeted and served by owner Demian, to the refreshing drinks and delicious food. We got our bill and thought there was a mistake - it was under what we expected. Thank you so much - we will be regulars
Very happy to finally have a pub in the neighbourhood!
Very happy with my first experience with the pub, great atmosphere and loved the big open doors. Looking forward to see how it progresses as they ease in. Would like to see a more expanded menu with more vegan items, and a gluten free deep fryer is a must.
The Korean Chicken thigh Burger is absolutely delicious. Every bite was a new flavour experience. Outstanding!
A great experience. We were a table of 8 and were completely taken care of with excellent service. The dishes were a clever mix of good old standards and some new combinations. All were delicious. Our only complaints were that the large table wasnt large enough for the banquette seating, so it required sitting on the edge to get to your meal, and some type of blinds for the west facing windows would have been nice, as it was painfully bright and hot. P.S. While writing this, there is a question in the Google review form of which dishes you would recommend, but it only allows the choice of Smashed Potato Salad. I would have chosen the Scallops & Pork Belly with Black Pudding
Everything was amazing! We arrived at 6 on Saturday and it was packed! Even though the service was prompt and friendly. Our server was fantastic The atmosphere is georgous with an open warm, welcoming feel. My partner and I had to scotch egg to start and we wanted to drink the creamed leaks! I had the cubano that was out of this world! Prices are average to any nice restaurant in Victoria and so worth it in my opinion for a nice evening out.
Stayed for one beer. Happy hour & regular menu included for those wondering
I love the menu here and I cant wait to go back and try more things! Service was outstanding and very friendly, and even though the place was packed when I went for happy hour, I got excellent service. I loved my Philly steak sandwich and the delicious little toffee fritters for dessert.
It is a bit disheartening to see appetizer-sized dishes priced as main dishes. Other than that, the food was delicious. Great location and service was good too.
