Tapa Bar in Victoria

Really tasty. The tapas bravas were great. We shared 6 different dishes and all of them were terrific

I came in on Saturday at 10:15pm when they close at 11pm. The employees and/or their friends were sitting and drinking and told us they were closed very rudely by closing the door on us. Have never experienced such horrible service.

Hits the mark on traditional tapas and vermouth vibes with some neighborhood cross pollination. Love the toki whiskey house cocktail. High quality import charcuterie, especially the chorizo.

Tapa Bar has been one of our go-to restaurants in Victoria for 10+ years. Consistent every time... excellent service, great flavors, and ambiance (like many restaurants these days, can be a bit loud when full...which is often!) We certainly have our favorites (grilled kale, pollo armanda, chili relleno...) but you wont be disappointed regardless of your choice. Reservation recommended unless dining early.

I want to be completely honest about my uncomfortable experience with the service here. After ordering a beverage, it took over 15 minutes to arrive, even though the restaurant wasn t busy at all. One server with glasses was polite and attentive, but the other had a very unprofessional attitude often standing with her hands in her apron or pockets, which felt rude and dismissive. It left me wondering if past issues with tips have affected her attitude, but I believe it s essential for servers to understand why they chose this profession. Additionally, the mussels were not cleaned properly and were full of grit, which made the dish unpleasant. Toward the end of the night, it seemed like the staff didn t care much about how food was being served, likely because the kitchen was closing. .

WORST service I ve ever encountered. Group of 3 of us went on Saturday, we are between ages 27-29, fyi. Place was pretty busy due to the comedy show later in the evening (we heard numerous tables discussing they were attending afterwards). Server was standoffish from the start, dropping waters with barely a hello before she turned away and left. Waited to order our drinks and 5-6 appies to share for the table. Food was alright, nothing to write home about, the drinks were fine. The sole and only time she came back to check on our table was to ask another round? To which I personally responded I M alright and she immediately turned away and disappeared again. She did not even wait to see if the other two people in our party wanted anything, and mind you their drinks were empty as well, but she assumed my response for myself was for the whole group.. Along with all of this shortness experienced with the server, we started to think that she was perhaps overwhelmed at the amount of people there that night, so I began to watch her interact with other tables and noticed that she was extremely attentive to other tables, asking people how their meals were, friendly, and to young and old tables alike- this left us to all to realize it seemed like she was intentionally ignoring our table. After all our food was delivered (came in two rounds, with the second round being brought out by other bussing staff) we then waited another 20 mins after we were done to try and get her attention for the bill. She would come close to tend to tables around us and then not look our direction and walk away. My husband then decided to get up and go to the hostess up front to ask for our bill, explaining we have not had our server come by after waiting and waiting. Hostess was nice and apologized, and the server even walked by a couple times while getting the bill up front and never acknowledged that my husband was paying. We are foodies and like trying new places, however the atrocious service at the Tapa Bar left quite a bad taste. We will never be returning here

Name me a better place to bring a group of friends, stop in for a delicious Martini, or when craving some bacon wrapped almond dates? Ill wait... Definitely be back again Food : 5/5

The food at Tapa Bar was fantastic, but the service didn t quite match the quality or price of the meal. Our plates were cleared while we were still finishing the last bites and dipping other tapas in the sauces. Surprisingly, they left our empty drink cans on the table until the end. The bill was simply dropped off without asking if we needed anything else, and they didn t offer a receipt. While our server may have been busy, it didn t quite compare to the attentive service weve experienced at other places. Overall, a bit disappointing.

Kid-friendliness: No Parking space

Front host was welcoming, however the other servers we encountered were either full of attitude or uninterested. I would not recommend sitting at the bar, the bartender was smashing everything down as if she was annoyed and overwhelmed at everything. Would not recommend, the lived experience of going here does not live up to its aesthetic

Avoid at all costs! We were called because our table was ready. When we got there, the hostess was visibly distraught because someone did something wrong our table was not ready. Instead of saying sorry another few minutes, they sat us outside in the corner and then forgot about us for 30 minutes. I am not kidding. We sat there for thirty minutes without water or anything indicating we have been acknowledged. Another couple came in after us and was able to get water and order. So we left.

What on Earth is the fuss about? Food is ok, but just ok and the service is terrible. The service is so bad in fact it feels like they resent you being there. Also, be warned, if you order multiple dishes be prepared for them to get at least one wrong then argue with you about it, maybe you should write them down?

Over-rated for Happy Hour experience. Maybe full meals are better but cant comment on that. Poor and unfriendly service. And food was mediocre at best.

Very expensive tapa but the taste is disappointing especially when you think about the price. The eggplant tapa s eggplants are RAW inside, it is terrible! their food tastes way different from Spanish tapa. Won t go again!

No idea how this place is rated so well. We got lots of tapas to share and they varied from bland and flavorless to overpriced. None of the tapas places I visited in Spain had tapas that came with tortilla chips, but okay, sure, maybe theyre doing it a little different here. Except- the chips tasted like they came out of a bag. The calamari at least seemed like it had been fried (in oil that admittedly needed filtering or replacing), but at least they have the capability to deep fry- why not make fresh tortilla chips at least? And if youre going to serve focaccia with everything, why not at least make sure its warm? Tortilla soup that seems to be raved about in the reviews here tasted like canned tortilla soup with bagged tortilla strips on top. It wasnt even hot throughout, not that I think that could have saved the taste. Seriously, no idea why everyone mentions it positively in these reviews. At least the atmosphere is nice? And our server was good, too. Overall, disappointing meal. We didnt spend too long in Victoria, but I sure hope theres better food in the town- I find it hard to believe that there isnt.

If you get a good table the atmosphere seems really fun, but if they stick you in a corner next to the kitchen, not so great. I understand not everyone can get a great table but this was my experience. Also, the sangria is terrible. Red wine and fruit is not sangria. You need to add sprite, orange juice, vodka, peach schnapps and apricot brandy (for really great sangria). To the restaurant: try it out and tell me its not 100% better.

This used to be our favorite restaurant in town. It used to be THE spot for a date night or a group gathering. Unfortunately, though, the quality has significantly decreased within the last 2 years or so. We went to Tapa Bar about a year ago and got food poisoning from slimy Cha Cha wings. After that, we stayed clear of this place for a while, but a few weeks ago, we went back since we really did love this place back in the day and wanted to give it another shot. This time, we didnt get food poisoning, but the mussels were gross (very fishy, slimy, didnt taste fresh at all?), so we each ate one or two of them and then stopped because we were worried they wouldnt be safe to eat. Thats the second time now that food here either wasnt or didnt seem safe to eat. Apart from actual food safety concerns, the overall quality has just gone down. The cocktails used to be fantastic and are now average. Same for the food - its boring now, uninspired, and bland. Just such a change from what it used to be...

Just fantastic all around. Service was perfect, food was outrageously delicious, and the bill surprised us with how low it was. Definitely a place that thrives on doing a good job, not just being near tourists. Go!

I recently visited Tapa Bar on two occasions. I ordered the Coconut Curry Prawns both times, and they were delicious, succulent, and perfectly cooked. I also highly recommend ordering Churros for the table, its served with a dark chocolate dipping sauce, and real whipped cream! - definitely a crowd pleaser, and a light way to end your meal. Everything was fantastic, and met my expectations, my only complaint was the service was a bit slow (could use improvement - I would still visit again though).

Absolutely amazing. The ambience of this place was perfect for a date night. The host and waitstaff are very friendly. Drinks were super yummy (highly recommend the espresso martini!). The food was exciting and everything we were looking for. Perfect portions for sharing!

Delicious food and great atmosphere! After a long day of exploring, we stopped here for a quick bite on the way to the ferry but, couldn t help but stuff ourselves silly with the delicious dishes! The grilled kale and mushroom tostada were our favorites. The patio is quiet and charming on the alley, and the service is wonderful. Highly recommend!

Its my go to tapa bar in Victoria. Great happy hour menu. Food is great as well as their service.

The Tapas Bar is always on point for good food and fun downtown atmosphere. Sat out on the patio in late May with the heaters overhead. We enjoyed olives with bread, calamari and margarita pizza. All good. Nice wine and white wine sangria. Lots of non-alcoholic special drinks as well, much appreciated. The lemonade was super flavourful. Our server was attentive and friendly. Exceptional food but water not refilled, bill presented before asking ( fancied a cocktail), approached twice to pay, before I even finished my wine. I was the only diner!

Fun place for happy hour

We really enjoyed the house salad (brown butter dressing very good), grilled kale (smoky), bit of a mixed response on the Moroccan chicken. Churros good- a bit more cooked and crispy would have been even better. Sangria was lovely. Wheelchair accessibility: We were able to park the mobility scooter, no issues. Staff were great to deal with.

Location and atmosphere were great. Service was pretty bad - server wouldnt even respond when we talked to her, then shed turn around and be super chatty with her coworkers. And the few times she did respond, she wasnt very pleasant. Thankfully it was at least fast. The food was almost great, but most of it seemed like it was missing some key flavours. Too bad, because the options sounded great and I feel like they justtt missed the mark. Red Pepper Chili Con Queso didnt seem like it had any peppers and it pretty much had no flavour. And the Pollo Al Ajillo wings were soggy and also seemed like they were missing some spices. The almond-stuffed dates were unreal though! Ill give this place another chance in a few months because I feel like it could be amazing, maybe it was just a bad day. Ill update the review when we go back!

Everything was perfect. My favorite would be the clam and pork soup. But everything else was really yummy. The only thing I wasnt a fan of was their lavender white tea cocktail. Its made for people who arent into sweet cocktails.

Happy Hour - Fabulous- I had pizza, Patatas Bravis, Prawns and beverage was Red Sangria- all well priced. The offerings are all flavourful and great portions so you may enjoy a variety as well, perhaps your dining partner likes something you dont, thats OK, the tapas offering allows you to enjoy and not full up to partake in the other shared offerings. The staff are friendly and open to any questions about the food plus if your nice will tell you their favourites or what they think may not be up to the level to recommend that evening so be gracious and tip well. Note: Bathroom lighting is great for taking pics.

Great place to enjoy a casual drink and tapas.

A group of women gets together once a month and someone chooses a different spot each month. There were only 6 this time and we were seated around a table and it was quiet enough to hear each other. The wine selection was good and reasonably price. I chose a bottle of Joya to share and it was $27. and very pleasant. The tapa selection was small and the order consisted of Margarita pizza, shrimp, chicken wings and the only complaint was that the wings were tough, but plentiful. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

Had the best date night at the tapa bar. Vanessa was our server and we had such a good time with her. She had great food and drink recommendations!

Food was more Spanish inspired than Spanish tapas. Calamari came with a salsa verde which was an interesting choice. Dark decor and nice ambience.

Some of the food was quite good (cubanette, steak, churros). But the potatoes and bread were not up to expectation.

My first time at this restaurant and I ll definitely be back. The service was excellent, always there but never hovering. Educated in their offerings and great with recommendations. I had the garlic prawns and the mussels and both were absolutely delicious. I would have had more but was full. Will be back to try other dishes.

I once hailed their seafood linguine as the towns unrivaled delight. However, revisiting after years, disappointment struck. The pasta lacked its former flavorful richness, tasting overly fishy and dry. Despite this, their salsa, tortilla, and sodas remained exceptional, as did the trio cream brulee. Regrettably, the pescato frito fell short. Service suffered, with long waits for the bill and payment machine (over 10 min for each). While still worth a visit, it no longer reigns as the top culinary destination.

No idea where the name comes from, tapas are from Spain and they do not ever look like that or are as expensive as those or are ever, ever accompanied by tortilla chips. Tortilla chips were on every plate we ordered somehow. By far the worst patatas bravas Ive ever had. The chorizo of the chorizo fondue plate was such a little portion it felt like garnish. We felt quite disappointed at the end. However, the place had a great vibe and the service was good and fast.

Quick seating on a Saturday, found the menu lacking enough variety. The cocktails on the other hand were outstanding.

I was here on Valentines Day and the bartender with short blond hair had terrible service and attitude with us, her food is amazing but the service is not! We felt like the bartender was been rude and racist.

I missed my order, but I placed the order again without saying sorry. The sangria pitcher, bacon roll? appetizer, pasta, spicy steamed mussels, and packaged pizza were all delicious. Parking is across the street at Bay Center...

Love this place. Been several times. Highly recommend. Good service and ambiance unlike a chain restaurant. Fun place for after work or just sightseeing. Parking: Parking can be hard and man it tad pricey. $5.25 for hour and half. Common Victoria we all don t ride bicycles! Kid-friendliness: I don t think is a kid place. It s more adult to me.

On recommendation from front desk at our hotel, decided to go to the Tapa Bar, Saturday late afternoon. Sat at the bar, had drinks and an appetizer. Bartender was a very attentive lady; friendly and professional. Had such a fun time decided to have dinner there on Sunday. Had margarita pziza and chicken cubanette. Both very tasty. Drinks as well. Fun spot to enjoy a drink and some food!

For context, I lived in Spain for a long time: The vibe here is great, and the service was very quick and great! The people were nice and very attentive. We ordered the chorizo fondue, the ceviche, and the olives which were all really good. The seafood linguine was also incredible. However the sangria was very, very, very watered down. LaCroix is to lemonade as their sangria is to actual sangria. I politely sent it back and they were kind enough to replace it with wine. The patatas bravas were inedible. They were very undercooked, the brava sauce was like store-bought marinara sauce, and the aioli wasn t very flavorful. I didn t have the heart to send them back, so I simply didn t eat them. Overall it was still a great experience, and I would still go back because the service was incredible and everything else we ordered was great.

Service and Food has gone completely downhill, and I doubt we will give this place another shot. It s a shame as it was always our favourite restaurant and one of the first places I d recommend to people visiting.

I love this place, the food is great! I recommend the papas bravas and the seafood pasta, oh and thryre creme brulee trio!. Their cocktails are also delicious, and they often have a great vibe in there. Service can be a little slow, but good otherwise

This is a hidden gem. If Im back in Victoria and could go to one place it would be here. Feels very authentic, Spanish tapas with a twist, great service, a little pricey.

Interesting place with impeccable service and has a festive atmosphere. On the other hand, vegetables that have been macerated in vinegar, frozen pasta (the kind bought in supermarkets and reheated), rice that tastes like water, dishes that are not very sophisticated, in short, we dont go there for the food.

The food is not great. Exspensive and small. Margaritas was fantastic

Starting off with the appetizer of Papas Bravas was okay, the tomato sauce was slightly a bit too much and the potatoes weren t as fried to standard, so it wasn t quite crispy. The Fritos was really really good (highly recommend); especially the fried Jicama was a unique touch. The Moroccan chicken was good (nothing special though, slightly bland chicken). This chicken dish had couscous base was well done and seasoned. The gambas con coco came with focaccia, it was a 7/10 (good), the sauce was delicious.

Great drinks, food and service. Maya really has great manners, very bubbly and she remembered my friend and I from a previous visit 2 weeks prior. Definitely try the red sangria.

In terms of price, food, and atmosphere this is easily one of the top 3 restaurants in Victoria. The grilled kale which normally wouldn t jump out to me on a menu is actually amazing. Great place to go with a bunch of people and split a bunch of different dishes. The atmosphere is great if you re okay with some loudness/busyness. Great drinks too

The service and atmosphere are very good, nice location and environment. Just the food.. had to say it s disappointed, we order the the typical Spanish tapas grilled potato and the taste is far from authentic, rest of the dish is just OK. Then the last served pizza was way too salty to eat so we began to feel sad about the meal. :( but the waitress was very understanding and return the pizza immediately, thats why I only rated the food at 2 star but everything else 5 star

I saw online reviews and thought it will be a good choice to spend birthday. But TOTALLY WRONG!! The two girl servers so rude and with the worst service. I reserved a cake before the meal for birthday and wait over 20 minutes after they cleaned my table after meal. I asked twice I saw she just walk into kitchen and leave. Also I saw it just put on the bar after its ready, but They walk pass for twice and didn t take it. And their attitude so bad without any apology for all the time. I like the food but will not recommend the service forever.

Whether its the seafood-infused creations that transport us to the coastal flavors or the hearty sausage-based options that provide a comforting contrast, each dish showcases a harmonious blend of flavors, textures, and attention to detail. The consistency in the excellence of their pasta offerings ensures that every bite is a delightful journey for the palate.

Food was fantastic, our steak was perfect, the calamari was very good, but the tzatziki was mediocre. Nice dark little place, fast service, and good price for the great food. Loved it!

We try to go to the Tapa Bar every time were in Victoria, the food is great every time. We also like it because there are lots of options for us including vegetarian options for our vegetarian family members although even those of us who arent vegetarian also enjoy the vegetarian dishes too. Great place for some delicious food.

Best mussel and seafood linguine in town!!!

After a long time a finally had the chance to comeback to Victoria and was really excited to try out this place having told that they had an amazing atmosphere and delicious tapas but it wasn t what I expected at all, after getting a table I waited 10min for a glass of water and almost 30min without any other server coming to the table even after I ask one of the servers passing by and she told me she would reach to our server . If the server in the very least presented herself and let me know that it might take a bit longer than usual to take my order I would be fine but that wasn t the case. Finally I decided to leave and go somewhere else. The place is beautiful but the service was really lacking.

Extremely rude staff!!!! Don t go if you want to avoid a waste of your time . Me and my husband were at least 25 minutes waiting and NO ONE SERVE US OR GAVE US AN EXPLANATION why they couldn t serve us and finally we end up leaving. Service : 1/5

Margarita Pizza was terrible half cooked and soggy. Moroccan chicken was just ok but seemed not freshly made. Garlic shrimp was good but Overall very disappointing food after I read such good reviews on Google, I am kind of confused as to why we had such poor food.

Ive been going to Tapa Bar for years and I cant believe I never posted a review until now! My favourite time to go is during happy hour as it does offer many of my favourite items at a bit of a lower price than normal. Both the garlic and Chipotle chicken wings, and prawns, are some of my go-tos. There have been some times Ive gone were the prawns were a bit more overdone than I would have liked, but this rating is for overall experiences with Tapa Bar in the 10+ years Ive gone. The chile relleno dip with tortilla chips is also a favourite, and today I tried some fried rice and cheese balls that Ive never had before that were FANTASTIC. The only slight qualm Ive ever had with Tapa Bar is that sometimes its a bit hard to have a conversation over the music and the other people in the restaurant, but that happens in many restaurants.

Nice covered patio area on a small ally. Friendly staff. Ordered a few things enjoyed the pollo and the stuffed pepper the most. Was disappointed in the sangria.

We had a wonderful time, finishing up our gastro tour of downtown Victoria at this lively (on a Monday night!) tapas bar. We only had the wonderful trio of creme brulee for dessert, but I am going back soon to sample the other things on the menu. We have never been disappointed at this restaurant, except when we couldnt get a table.

We love tapa bar!!!! We came all the way from Toronto to visit tapa bar once again after an incredible experience last year. Impeccable vibes, swift service and killer food. The sardine toast is out of this world and the mussels de cha cha cha are killer. Once again, WE LOVE TAPA BAR

Tapas bar is one of my favorite places to eat on a special night out in Victoria. It s in the heart of downtown by a very dreamy, charming, and beautifully lit alleyway on Trounce. In terms of food, they are never a let down. They feature classics like the Mussels in a nice Spicey sauce that comes with focaccia bread to dip it in. You cannot go wrong with most of the dishes there. The only dish I don t recommend are the chicken wings just because they have so many better options instead. While I love the atmosphere during the summer and seating on the patio, the inside of the restaurant is often way too loud. Because of this, it often makes me want to leave the restaurant quickly. The food is always a classic and the sangria is to die for. I highly recommend. 9/10

If you are vegetarian there are ok options and very expensive. We ordered two dishes that were similar with chips and it s too bad our server didn t tell us. Not sure I would go back. The good overall was ok and nothing.special.

Food was great. Cubanettes, we had the pork one, were amazing and the classic shrimp were better than in Spain. Service was wonderful.

Food was very good and it s was a lively (busy)spot for food and drinks on a Saturday. Service could have been better - had to get attention of server a couple of times but overall would recommend it.

The alley is just pretty - but the food is too salty for me and I asked for bread/ the staff were very impatient and rude and it took twenty minutes for bread after asking few times! It s my first time not to tip in a restaurant for their terrible service, and I won t go back again definitely.

Great food and service

It was decent. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. The tortilla soup and bread were great as well as the crème brûlée. Our server was a bit unfriendly. She was not very attentive or welcoming. I understand not everyone can be expected to be upbeat 24/7, but it just made things a bit awkward. Especially because the server for the table next to us was wonderful and talked to us more than our actual server. When she brought the bill she just dropped it and left without mentioning where to pay and did not come back to take our plates, it was actually the other server who cleared our took some of our plates. Lastly, even though it was a small thing she didn t say happy birthday or anything even when my boyfriend mentioned it while ordering desert and when checking my ID. It s a silly small thing but we both work in the restaurant industry and know the importance of picking up on those things when they re mentioned. But it s understandable that she was likely very busy with other tables. Overall most of the food was good and the restaurant is very pretty.

Chantelle and Jessy gave us the most accommodating and best service we ve had anywhere else here in Victoria! This is one of our favourite places and we will continue to keep coming.
