We had several small plates. Just right to try different things. The fried Smelt brought back wonderful memories. Beet salad, pan fried Oysters, and sautéed Scallops were paired very well with a yummy Chardonnay.
I found this place by looking at reviews. Boy did we get lucky! The food was excellent service was superior. Highly recommend this jewel! yes I ate an oyster before I took the photo. Lol.
The food is pretty good. We got the steam seasonal seafood, fried smelt , cod, and dozen of oysters. The creme brulee was orange flavor and was overwhelming. 2/5 Oysters were fresh and good 5/5 The smelt appetizers was a good serving size too! Despite the creaky and steep stairs there were quite a few families and elderly people here. Service was on the slower side and could of been more attentive. I asked for light iced drink and got full ice so drink was too cold for me. We made reservations but it wasn't super packed so probably can go without one.
The hostess at the entrance mistakenly informed me that my booking was for downstairs and luckily they could accommodate me, later on I was being informed that my booking was meant to be at upstairs. Our server “ Kennedy” was amazing, she was friendly and professional. Food was good, the oyster was divine. The grilled octopus was slightly overcooked & the Bouillabaisse was a bit salty.
I have always gone to Ferris’s downstairs and enjoyed it well enough, but was never ‘wowed’. On my birthday we were actually on our way somewhere else for dinner and I had a craving for oysters. Being past 5 pm, we decided to go upstairs. And what a lovely surprise! Upstairs is elegant and beautiful but still casual. The food (because we ended up just…not leaving!) was great -the chicken liver pâté was out of this world!! And our server, Chelsea was so lovely! In fact, when she found out it was my birthday, she comped us each a wine without telling us. Will 100% return.
Overall, it was a delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the attentive staff, setting the tone for a fantastic dining experience. One of the standout aspects of Ferris Upstairs Oyster Bar is its ambiance. The vibrant and lively atmosphere created an enjoyable and upbeat vibe throughout the evening. Whether you're looking for a casual night out with friends or a charming date spot, this place hits the mark. The drink selection at Ferris Upstairs Oyster Bar is impressive and the wine at happy hour pricing is awesome. However, while the service and drinks were excellent, I must highlight one area for potential improvement. The food, particularly the seasoning, leaned towards the saltier side. While some may enjoy the bold flavors, I found it a bit overwhelming. I would suggest that the kitchen pays closer attention to balancing the salt content to ensure a more well-rounded dining experience. Despite this minor drawback, the overall quality of the dishes was commendable. The oysters, in particular, were fresh and presented beautifully. The menu also features a variety of seafood options, showcasing the chef's dedication to sourcing high-quality ingredients. In summary, Ferris Upstairs Oyster Bar offers an inviting atmosphere, attentive service, and a wide array of delightful drinks. It's the perfect place for an enjoyable evening out. While the food could benefit from a reduction in saltiness, the overall experience is still worth savoring.
You want to eat here. First off, our server - Chelsea - was amazing. She was always bang on with her timing. We always had everything we needed. The food was fantastic. We started with some fresh oysters, which were super fresh and very tasty.. For our mains, we enjoyed the Ling Cod, Arctic Char, Clam Linguine, and the Bouillabaisse. All were amazing. Our entire table was impressed! We tried most of the desserts, all of which were enjoyed. We will be back... don't miss it!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We polished off two dozen raw oysters!!! I ordered the black cod in a red curry(Amazingly flavorful and very well cooked!). Hubby had the strip loin, it was slightly over cooked but nonetheless, it tasted perfect. The old fashioned was also on point (he ordered two) ❤️ The wait staff were all super friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience!
I liked everything - food, presentation, service, atmosphere. Bouillabaisse was not what I ate in Marseille, France at a Micheline restaurant, but I liked this version a lot, very tasty. Ceasar cocktail - bravo! Scallop appetizer - just perfect. Thanks for the great experience!
great deal on fresh oysters for happy hour. also got chorizo puffs which were just ok. nice ambience, would return.
Very nice place th food was very tasty its a good place if you want to celebrate something with your friends they arrange the table for you! We were like 14 people.
Love it. Great place, great food, great service.
Went on a non-busy night so the atmosphere and service were good. Really tasty; not huge portion sizes but one of the most satisfying meals Ive had in a long time. Food : 5/5
We bump into it in total hazard. Really nice from start to finish. Great food. Short menu so everything is homemade, fresh and from reflexion! Will come back and recommend! Staff is great also.
Food and cocktails were delicious and creative. Service outstanding. Thanks Kennedy.
While visiting my aunt a few of us went to the Ferris and the food was delicious. I m not a fan of oysters however, now I am. The menu is very good and has a lot to offer. We enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and fabulous service. Definitely recommended while in the area.
We are repeat customers. We always include Ferris Upstairs on our trips. Amazing everything! Cheers!
We started with the dates wrapped with bacon which was very tasty. Then we had the shellfish small plate. Plump mussels in a tasty broth. Be sure to ask for extra bread to soak up the sauce. We had halibut for our main. Perfectly cooked and moist. Our server, Kayla was attentive and personable. Overall this was an outstanding evening
What happened here? Ordered two brownie desserts to go as a Friday night treat. $9.5 each plus tax and tip, and yes, the brownie is tasty. Nothing exceptional. And a fat tablespoon of whip cream? I know food prices have gone up but really? I have been coming here since it opened in the early 90s and I was a waitress down the street at the old Chandlers restaurant. Times, and food quality, clearly have changed.
Best food we had so far on Vancouver Island.
This was our first time here and the friendly waitstaff let us know that the kitchen was closing in 30 minutes but they would still seat us and take our order. My husband had the blackened cod with prawns and I had the shellfish which was superb. A fire alarm went off before the food came out (not in our restaurant but some other location) and the kitchen had to remake our food, but no one fussed and we were so grateful. I would definitely come back again!!
pink pony drink is the best, morganna is even better:)
Kayla was amazing! She was so detailed in making sure that my dietary restrictions were accommodated for and I ended up with the Bouillabaisse with gf bread, it was delish! Will definitely come again the next time we are in Victoria
New found favorite for business meetings or personal. Everything on the menu is delicious. Vegetarian options: Saladsbare delicious specially Cauliflower Salad and the Watermelon Salad.
Absolutely loved it! Food and presentation were amazing! Out server Kayla was awesome as well
Great space needs music playing throughout location
Great atmosphere and service. The meal was outstanding.
I just spent a week touring Vancouver Island, eating seafood every day. Ferris Upstairs was by far my favorite. The black cod was cooked to perfection! The fish melted in my mouth. Another winner on the menu was the warm, roasted cauliflower salad. Im planning to beg them for the recipe, lol. The service was great, everyone was pleasant and professional. Highly recommended!
Amazing experience!!
Highly recommend.
Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, amazing service. Would definitely come again!
So glad we found this place - searched for seafood restaurant during our first visit to Victoria, but most results had just one or two items (and usually a pasta or fish & chips). Ferris Upstairs was just what we wanted - many fresh options, all meticulously cooked and simply but deliciously presented. We had oysters, smelts, and bouillabaisse ... maybe also the shellfish? (Great cocktails too!) Everything was delicious and beautiful. The staff was professional, enthusiastic, and helpful.
This place never disappoints. Thats a rarity. One of my top 3 in Victoria. Go now!
Food was good, it is on second story.
I wish I could say something bad about this place so that I never have to worry about getting a table, but the truth is that it s a go-to for anyone who wants great seafood in a great setting. Parking: Paid lot across the street. Free on Sundays.
Server excellent and food excellent! Wheelchair accessibility: Elevator Food : 5/5 |
Fabulous in every way
Excellent meal and service.
Absolutely delicious.
Cocktails and apps were fantastic!
Peak food experience! I dont gush for attention. The oysters with horseradish vodka were everything I dreamed of. The sherry mignonette was also mind blowing. The beet salad...hello. The halibut entree absolutely nailed the flavors it was going for. The family loved the linguini. The service was so nice. The old town brick wall vibes are classic PNW. I will dream of this meal. Dont miss this on your Victoria visit! Dietary restrictions: I am celiac and this is one of those places where you know they care and take it seriously
Had a fantastic anniversary dinner - great service, atmosphere, and delicious plates from start to finish, highly recommend!
Chelsea was great! Attentive and helpful and courteous. Grilled squid was phenomenal! Kudos to the chef!
I was here about a month ago. My memories faded a bit as its been a while. I had smelt, oysters, bouillabaisse, the cod dish and maybe one of more dishes. The cod dish and smelt were our favorites. Bu really everything was good and we left satisfied. I am not sure when I would come back to Victoria but when I do, I will probably revisit. Very good food. I was glad we were there.
Everything tasted amazing. Service was excellent. Answered any question about the meal. Wife and daughter loved the atmosphere.
Very tasty- only wish the portions were bigger for the Black Cod!
Simply excellent seafood and service. Very nice ambience. Parking: Parking garage nearby.
Food is good, not amazing, as the price would indicate.
I tried the oysters during happy hour. The food was excellent, but the happy hour was too short.
Dietary restrictions: I have dairy/egg sensitivities and I wasn t sure they could accommodate (almost everything included dairy on the menu) but I was able to order an appetizer and two mains that they prepared differently. They did an incredible job and I was so appreciative. I highly recommend this place - the food and preparation are top-notch!
The Humboldt squid and tuna crudo were absolutely amazing! Great service and cute ambiance.
Delicious oysters in a laid back atmosphere that makes you feel like a local. Delicious octopus, too. Food
Exceptional food and service. Best restaurant in Victoria. Fabulous oysters and the Black Cod was amazing. Would eat here again in a heartbeat...
Always love Ferris upstairs and this time didn t disappoint. Kennedy was our server and she was relaxed and funny. She recommended the squid over the octopus even though they are both great but she nailed it, it was the best. Everyone is so friendly and at home it makes the visit very pleasurable.
What a gem. Ate here our first night in Victoria and it was spectacular. The roasted cauliflower was so tasty and the cod and halibut were splendid. Service was awesome and Kennedy was absolutely the best! Just go here!
A must go to for seafood and ambience Dietary restrictions: Well handled by the staff. J 1 Food : 5/5 |
Lily was super lovely and attentive and all of our food was absolutely incredible! We highly recommend the arancini.
Great service, great seafood. Oysters and mignonette were delish!
I loved Ferris oyster bar. We went there for the happy hour and it certainly did not disappoint! The server (Kate) was extremely helpful and made us feel welcome! Food was unbelievably good. First time being here :)
Food was great. Mushroom pate had incredibly full, deep flavor. Raw oysters were fundamentally sound and fresh. Grilled octopus was cooked to perfection with amazing sauces. To top off, Lily was super friendly server! Food
The seafood Laksa was delicious, and our server Kate went out of her way to make sure we had a great experience. Definitely will be returning!
Kate was our server, such great service and delicious food, thank you!!
Chelsea was great, and the happy hour oysters were such a good deal we came back the next day with friends.
Kennedy was amazing Food was amazing Atmosphere was amazing Beautiful evening celebrating with my beautiful fiancée Google needs to fix the listing. We searched seafood restaurant 4.5 stars or better and Ferris didnt show up yet they are an established local goto spot.
Awesome food and experience overall. Kennedy was great. Would highly recommend.
Excellent service and food were great! Fresh oysters are amazing! Steak fries was spot on. Our waitresses was top notch, highly recommended!
Loved this place. Great halibut! Lily was our server.
I want to love Ferris-Upstairs (I love the space, the service, and the food). We ve been going, off-and-on, for years. But I ll think twice about coming again (the $$ is what it is, I accept the cost of eating out): this last time (June 2024) we took a friend here for his birthday and all of the above was as expected. Just fine. But on, and on, and on, as we visited, the music just thumped away, drove a wedge into the evening, the intimacy, the conversation it just took over. What a headache. Why is that? Is it to keep the vibe, to keep the (mysterious) clientele feeling like they re out In-The-City? Should we have asked that they turn-it-down-a-notch? Should we have to? Are we just getting tired of spending our allowance and getting defeated by the too-loud-to-be-social, too-loud-to-be-fun ?
Had a great evening. Loved the food and service! Thank you Lily.
GREAT oysters
Kennedy took great care of us will be back soon! Best seafood ceaser .
Great time. Service was wonderful. Food was eclectic and refined. Service could have been spaced just a hair.
You know that scene in Burnt with Bradley Cooper when the Michelin star testers drop a fork to test the service. Well during my meal I inadvertently let my napkin slip slightly off my lap and partially onto the floor. Well what do you know, as I looked up from grabbing said napkin my server was there, waiting, fresh napkin in extended in their hand!! If that isn t a representation of absolute quality service I don t know what is!!
Love Ferris ! Delicious food, great drinks and great service.
Really worth visiting!
As stated the oyster and seafood bar were fantastic. The food, the service nice paintings on the wall and a special thanks to our server Chelsea.
Excellent experience. Service by Kennedy was fantastic and she gave great recommendations. Seafood was very fresh. The only thing we didn t love was the chorizo puffs - the pastry seemed underbaked. Otherwise, highly recommend
Lovely place, great food and even better service. The black cod was delicious and the creme brulee was a perfect finish.
Kennedy is the BEST! Best server ever!!
Great food! Great service!
Kennedy was the best! My wife and I have had the best experience and will be coming back
Food and service were amazing. Some dishes were complete surprises like the roasted beets and cauliflower dishes. I wasnt really into the art (outsider Canadiana) but thats just me.
Truly excellent service and food from start to finish! Chelsea was a fantastic server and the whole staff was so kind and friendly. Well definitely be back!
Delicious food. Great happy hour! Loved the buttermilk oysters they were the best I ve tasted.
Lily was the most amazing server, genuine and so very professional and attentive. The cocktails were superb and the food exquisite. Do not miss this restaurant if you are in Victoria.
Had an awesome experience this evening! Ordered fresh oyster, linguine, salmon, and bouillabaisse, as well as wine and some cocktails! Our hostess was friendly and outgoing, and our server was fantastic. Our server offered us complimentary desserts to compensate for wait time on the food, even though we hadn t felt like it was long at all. Food was fantastic and service was great!
Absolutely top notch incredible food and service. Ignore the outliers. Our favourite stop whenever we visit Victoria for special occasions. Kennedy is an excellent server, whos attentive, knowledgeable and personable, adding to the 5 star experience. Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner :)
One of our favorite restaurants on the island. Food is always good and so is the service. Kennedy served us last night and was super friendly and helpful. Cant wait until our next meal at ferris upstairs!
Had an amazing happy hour filled with fresh oysters & a couple other excellent appetizers. Barry took care of us & did a fantastic job, will return from Alberta for fresh shucked oysters again. Kid-friendliness: Had a 7month old, staff very accommodating & friendly.
Our server Kennedy was fantastic, witty and very helpful!
Great vibe and service!
Always a great experience. Food and service excellent. Unfortunately there was a long table with very loud guests. Also very warm in the restaurant.
We came a few weeks ago and I forgot to write a review! We had a wonderful evening on our weekend visit over from Washington. It was cozy, the food was yummy and Chelsea our server was so wonderful. We really enjoyed our experience and definitely recommend!
Kate was the highlight of our experience! Very personable and a unique humor to her which i found revitalizing.
We very much enjoyed several of the small plates. The flavors of the dishes were all remarkable. Our server was so helpful and cheerful. All in all a very nice experience.
Fantastic evening out with friends. Excellent food and exceptional service from Kennedy
We had gf dieter at the table and Kennedy was super helpful! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Recommended dishes Seafood
Phenomenal experience the food is truly brilliant. Would highly recommend the Black Cod, truly some of the best cod I ve had in my life. Atmosphere and service is what I d expect from an upscale restaurant. Food
Heather was incredibly friendly and attentive!
I don t know if we got a bad night for the kitchen but we went because of the reviews. The oysters were okay but served with 4 droppers of flavourings that we weren t thrilled with. The black cod was small with 2 shrimp for a high price and the liver pate was uneatable. Our server was lovely though I felt bad for her , she gave us a dessert to help the situation.
Recently celebrated 70th Birthday at Ferris Upstairs! - Great service and great food...server Lily is a natural and genuine person who made our evening that much better. Happy to see steak on the menu, highly recommended. Bruce & Yvette Food
dine around is good. Recommended smoked salmon
Kate was super friendly, had a lovely vibe, and made our experience truly blissful - thanks Kate!
Kennedy was amazing. The food was soooooo good.
Our server Kennedy was amazing! Great food, great people! Lovely spot to go!
Great food! Sticky Toffee Pudding was so fantastic and our server Kennedy was super great!
Kennedy was an amazing server for my Birthday dinner. We loved the atmosphere, the drinks and the amazing food!! Oysters were super fresh and tastey too!!
We had a tremendous variety of plates from seafood to veggies. Kennedy our server was wonderful. Exceptional food and price was very reasonable.
Kate was a great server and the fish and chips was excellent!
We love the cozy atmosphere of Ferris Upstairs! The food was delicious with wonderful flavors!! We enjoyed small plates of roasted cauliflower salad, steamed local shellfish with fries & aioli, sherry braised beets and finished with a delightful orange & almond cake. The service was excellent and Kennedy was personable and fun.
Great food, good service, lovely atmosphere!
Beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, great hot sauces for oysters! Recommended
Me and a friend dined at the upstairs Ferris restaurant. We had the dine around menu and shared our items so we could try multiple things! All the dishes came out in perfect timing and each dish was unique and delicious. Our Server was attentive and helped us find a bottle of wine we liked. Rustic but also chic vibes. My only note would be to have some more approachable price points for wine and more bc wines. Me and my friend wanted to try a restaurant we had never been to before and support local businesses but our bill was $80 each before tip since the cheapest bottle of wine was $50. If there were some $35-$40 bottle of wine options and maybe overall a more approachable drink list price point wise I would definitely visit again. Otherwise everything was great!
There is so much potential for this to be a solid go to place. The atmosphere is great. However, a general lack of effort with service and food can make that experience less than satisfactory. I do remember it being better a few years back. Hopefully, they turn it around.
Awesome food. Great setting. Will try the Spanish Tapa restaurant (connected to Ferris Oyster Bar) next time when visiting Victoria.
First time here. Very cool place. Great hosts. The food was outstanding from snacks/ appys to dessert! Great drinks! Looking forward to meeting Perro and the Grill too.
Had cod for my friend and duck leg confit, and some oysters for myself with another friend. A big plate Portion was ok for one person. But the duck leg confit was dry, not juicy at all. Apparently the cod wasnt that good. Especially for its price, both the cod and duck were just ok. Sauces were hard carrying the meal. But the oysters were almost top notch. Again, quite pricey but oysters cant be cheap and fresh. Otherwise all pretty ok. But definitely a bit pricey for its meal quality.
Beautiful location for a date night dinner or some friends. Food was amazing and hostess was lovely. Vegetarian options: Tasty and well presented vegetarian dinner was an option and it was fantastic.
Our food was amazing, our waitress was top notch nothing but good things to say.
One of the best in town. I booked the NYE dinner for a couple of friends, and everything was great from start to finish. I am still dreaming about that white bean cassoulet.. YUM!
Very nice food. Great little nook of a place. Service was very good. Highly recommend
Great food and wonderful service.
Upon discovering this establishment through various must-try, happy hour, and fresh oyster lists, we decided to visit and experience it for ourselves. We arrived shortly after 5 PM, and were fortunate enough to secure seating, as the majority of the restaurant was already reserved for the Dine Around event. We availed ourselves of the happy hour menu, which included the following options Miyagi Fresh oysters - These small to medium-sized oysters were carefully selected for their clean and fresh taste, and were served with an option of additional sides of horseradish and mango marinara for 50 cents each. Arancini Balls (3pcs) todays selection were gumbo-style risotto balls filled with shrimp and savory chorizo, which were expertly cooked to perfection. The slight spiciness of the chorizo was perfectly balanced by the acidity of the tomato sauce, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. The exterior of the ball was incredibly crispy, providing a satisfying texture that was both comforting and enjoyable. Buttermilk Fried Oysters - Five large, plump oysters were lightly battered and fried to perfection, resulting in a crispy outer layer that encased the succulent oysters. They were served on a bed of crisp lettuce and accompanied by a tangy mayo sauce, which added a contrasting flavor and texture to the dish, making it a perfect balance of flavors and textures. Chorizo Puff (4 pieces) - featured a mildly spicy chorizo, encased in flaky, buttery puff pastry. The dish was elevated by a drizzle of sweet honey, which added a subtle sweetness that perfectly balanced the savory flavors of the chorizo. The Burrata dish was a standout favorite for us during our dining experience. The Burrata was expertly paired with a flavorful mixture of pistou, zucchini, hazelnuts, basil, and urfa pepper, creating a truly irresistible combination of flavors. The depth of the flavors in the pistou perfectly complemented the delicate creaminess of the Burrata, making for a truly mouthwatering dish. The only downside was that it was only served with two slices of grilled bread, however, upon request, the staff promptly provided us with additional bread to fully enjoy the dish. Along with our dinner, we both decided to complement our meal with a Hoyne Espresso Stout. The stout was smooth and creamy, with a subtle hint of espresso that complemented the flavors of the meal perfectly. Our experience at this eclectic seafood bar was a fantastic start to our mini getaway in Victoria. The atmosphere was lively and fun, and the seafood was fresh and expertly prepared. We highly recommend this establishment for a night out, whether youre looking for a casual meal or a more formal dining experience. Additionally, it seems that they also have a downstairs restaurant that serves a variety of different foods, providing even more options for diners. All in all, it was a memorable and enjoyable experience.
A very good place, the food was delicious. I highly recommend the laska seafood and the chowder. In general, I do not recommend it very much for very large groups because the tables are small, hence the service is quite good and the staff is very pleasant.
Every dish is of high quality
Another great night out! Ferriss Upstairs has been consistently great for years and is definitely in my top 5 restaurants in Victoria. The food is always amazing, and the service is quick and attentive without being intrusive. A great atmosphere for a casual meal or for a date night or a special occasion. Good lighting and music volume that allows for conversation without yelling. Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian options!
Great staff, delicious food
Good
Absolutely delicious food and amazing service. Will definitely be back!
Excellent food and service, not just for oyster lovers!
If youre looking for fresh and authentic seafood experience, look no further! Try the Seafood Linguine!
Excellent seafood place. Great atmosphere and amazing food.
Love their seafood linguine! The seasoning is savoury and seafood is fresh. The clam chowder is a little bit saltier than expected but the portion is definitely XXL, good for 2 ppl.
Super fresh oysters that pairs extremely well with Seacider Kings and Spies
In all honesty, just a fan of Andrew due to MFM
The food was delicious. The service was fantastic. The prices were fair for what we got. The ambience is cute. Make a reservation if you can just in case there is a wait. Would come here again if were feeling some yummy seafood.
This was our first experience here and our last. The seafood was mediocre, I could barely find my pieces of fish in the broth because they were so small. At about $90 per person, including tip, its expensive. There are lots of other fantastic restaurants in Victoria they constantly deliver. Try them first!
Had an awesome time at Ferris a few weeks ago on a Friday night while visiting Victoria. Was with a party of 4 and both the food and service were fantastic. I left an item there by accident and Barry and the team made sure that it was returned to me. Would highly recommend! Thanks again!!
Loved the food, especially scallops and bouillabaisse. Oysters are fresh, but smaller than what served up the island. Overall, very happy with the experience. The staff was very nice to us.
Very nice selection of food
Simplemente, love it
Went for happy hour and left full and satisfied. Great deal on oysters, other food options were delicious and drinks were super tasty.
I made a reservation for 7:45 pm on a Thursday night. We were pleased to find a lovely corner table waiting for us, where we enjoyed a dozen oysters with a horseradish Infused vodka. Amazing!
We went here for our anniversary, and had a stellar evening. We arrived 30 minutes early but they were more than happy to accommodate us and had us sitting within a few minutes. The service was great with assisting with everything we needed. All of the dishes that we had were fantastic but if I was to suggest one dish I would suggest the Chicken Liver Paté. Their paté is on par with the paté I enjoyed at gastronomic restaurants in France. Thank you all for an unforgettable anniversary for us, we will be coming back... Soon <3
Private room for a work event. Ama,ing menu and awesome service!
My wife got a nice juicy and delicious Hamburger. I got a beef and pasta plate, I think it was stroganoff. The beef was nice and tender, but I was not a fan on the stroganoff sauce. We enjoyed the the greenhouse looking ambience, and the seating.
Went for my birthday. Service was lovely, our waitress was so fun and sweet! Food was delicious.
Tara MADE our night! Our service was fantastic and food was delicious too!
Great experience. Highly recommended
Had the salmon. Wonderfully prepared, especially the crust. Crispy. Amazing balance of flavors with their choice of greens. Server recommended the perfect wine to complement. Just a beautiful, overall dining experience. Casually refined., calm and never felt rushed. Also love the decor and Service was excellent!
First time visit. Really impressed with service. Booked on Open Table and for the first time the restaurant responded (brilliantly) to the purpose of our visit. Excellent food. Will return for sure.
Have been a long time patron, its always been a reliable Victoria staple. However, I went there a week ago ordered the Tokyo chicken burger, the burger was bland nothing like the menu description and needed salt, when I got to the middle of the chicken patty it was raw. The fries are no longer hand cut either. Will probably not be returning anytime soon, since all I hear from ppl are that it just keeps getting worse and unpredictable whether the food will be decent or not. The server was great, I was offered free dessert and didnt have to pay for my meal.
Perfect execution for food
Very disappointing from the micro sized uncomfortable booth to the waitress who clearly didn t want to be there to the overpriced bland food. We will not be back.
I love oysters, and this place has oysters!!!!
Small but amazing place! Great service, chefs, local beer, food, and happy hour!! We had the raw oysters and the unbelievably delicious Hokkaido Scallops. They only complaint is that it will be hard to find a place that compares to this back home and also now by comparison I am a terrible chef, lol. Must do restaurant in Victoria!
Best veggie nut burger and the lemon feta dressing is to die for Vegetarian options: Best homemade burger ever Food : 5/5 |
fresh local seafood, friendly staff and superb cocktail. a must visit. One selection on the menu is Hokkaido Scallop... a curios choice given Canadas clean Atlantic Scallop and Japans recent lease of nuclear waste into the Pacific.
Stumbled upon this great restaurant while walking around downtown. Chelsea, our server was charming an extremely nice. The halibut was superb, muscle s delicious and my wife has wonderfully cooked Polenta. Restaurant was very accommodating with dietary changes. Yum!
We almost missed it because the entrance is a hole in the wall but upstairs is a nice little place the fills up quick. They greeted us very nicely and within seconds we sat at the bar. We started with two old fashions and a dozen oysters. The drinks were well made and the oysters were clean fresh quality and completely shucked. The Arancine were good but not traditional but if you know anything about Sicily you will also understand that you either need to go to Sicily for the real ones or ask your grandmother to make them. Now for the mains, one was a seafood stew with muscles served with bread and it was very good. Very clean and fresh seafood served in a white wine based stew with garlic most definitely why it comes with the bread to dip in the broth we had to ask for more bread, top notch. the Halibut was over a of seafood and spinach. It had a clean mild tast and the fish was crisp on the edges yet flaky to my fork, my only observation is it was a little small but a good choice. Bottom line is this place does prepare good quality seafood that is obviously fresh.
Had reservations, arrived within the 15 ninute window, they had already given away our table. Sat us at the bar, 2 minutes later a table opened up and they didnt offer to reseat us
Great food and service . One of the best meal we had in Canada.
The fresh oysters were amazing. Great taste, even better value. Porcine mushroom and pecan pate was delicious as well.
Good value for money and very welcoming
Here for our honeymoon stumbled into this recommendation from a conversation with a stranger. Bar non, best meal we ve had this year. The layers in the dishes.. flavours textures perfection. Service is impeccable. The boys in the kitchen are pros. Timely. Sharp. Focused. Will definitely be back!!
If you are a pescetarian like me (fish but no meat, no shellfish), avoid this restaurant. There will be virtually no choices for you here. The kitchen was happy to accommodate me, but what I got was a perfectly good piece of halibut -- on a bed of frozen peas. Vegetarian options: Extremely limited, ie one entree. Dietary restrictions: See my revies about pescetarian options.
Best meal we had during our time in Victoria!
Havent been here for a few years. Still a great place to go with friends. Food was as good as I remember. Do reserve if you can get a spot.
I am sorry but I was really disappointed. This 1 star is simply for the food. The service was awesome. Atmosphere great. Food terrible and so over priced for the tiny portion of bad food you get. Paid 120$ for 12 oysters, tiny piece of not so great Cod, and about 12 tiny dried out mussels in total the amount of food the two of us consumed was enough to fit in the palm of your hand.. and only just bearable to eat if that. We ate it because we were simply starving but wish we hadn t so we could ve went elsewhere with our money. Much better options in Victoria.. my boyfriend and I don t spend 120$ on a dinner very often. Regretting our decision deeply.
I ordered the $36 black cod. The portion of fish was so small I could eat it in one bite. I politely asked the waitress if they were low on fish, or if this is the standard size. She said it was the standard portion but offered to add one more children s sized fish portion on the side. She was very nice about it, 5* for service rating. I took her up on the offer. Why did I only give a 2* rating for service you ask? The second waitress came by to ask me how everything was. Things went down hill fast. I told her briefly the same thing. She explained to me it s a small plate . I asked her why it s listed under the large plates section of the menu. She said the plate itself is large - there is additional protein. She was referring to the 2 tiny shrimp. The only thing more disappointing than getting a tiny, Overpriced plate is having to argue with the staff about it. The first waitress was so cool I have 2* instead of 1* all around here. Nice job. Give her a promotion. My advice for the owners - Don t be cheap; Serve normal sized portions. You re not a Michelin star restaurant. My advice for patrons - go eat at the keg instead. We went the previous night, 5* all around.
We came to Victoria for the first time and decided to have dinner here. We had a fantastic experience! Friendly staff, cozy and comfy atmosphere and the food was phenomenal! Definitely worth it. Happy Hour menu for the first hour was a great way to try the most amazing oysters and the meals off the regular menu are incredible. Highly recommend!
Lilly made us feel at home during the whole night of having excellent tasty dishes made with local ingredients: look no further and book before it s full: Some amazing dishes are black cod , scallops and the immaculately tasty baked oyster and squid! Bon appetit Food
Great food
Exceeded expectations from start to finish. Service, drinks, food, all amazing. Its a cozy little place, cool atmosphere, did I mention the drinks?! Great experience.
We ordered a dozen fresh oysters which were very good. The fried smelt were a also delicious. My bouillabaisse was very tasty and would have been perfect if it had a few more ingredients like shrimp and scallops.
Really good food; Tiny gem in down town Victoria!
We had a marvelous time with our very sophisticated English friend who had arrived in Victoria for the day. I was on a mission to demonstrate that there is good food in Victoria, and the Upstairs bar was a great place to start. We had appies and bubbles only at this great place and everything was terrific, in taste, texture and presentation. Lots of great seafood options!
Up a creaky staircase to a warm reception and table with a view onto old Victoria. The bartender mixed good cocktails and our server, K, took very good care of us for our entire meal. Fresh oysters were definitely fresh, but a little short on fixings. The mushroom and nut patent pâté was an interesting appetizer. Black cod main was a smallish portion, but well prepared and moist; dumplings were fried, as opposed to steamed and baby bok choi was left limp and drowning in a bland broth . Manila clam pasta could have done with less salt. The bread was probably day old The wine list needs work.
Great bottle of wine and a super cool menu. We had fish, scallops, and a good selection of tasty bites to start.
One of the best oysters I ever ate. Oysters better than at other local (high end) restaurants. They had a a very creamy, soft and calm texture. Perfectley balanced, with a nice haptic experience, they don´t immediatly `collaps´. Excellent friendly service, felt cosier in this loft style restaurant upstairs. Combination of Wine selction looks greaat, too. The Sancerre was my favorite.
Ferris has amazing atmosphere -- it is a great place for a romantic date or an intimate catch-up with good friends. Some of the food is amazing, but you need to know what to get as other items are comparatively disappointing. For reference, I got two appetizers: I gobbled up the delicious one (mushroom tartare) and abandoned the lackluster pork bites. The service was friendly but inattentive. It took me around 30 minutes to flag down the server and order a drink in a mostly empty restaurant (after having told the server I would be ready for a drink in 5 minutes). Overall, Ferris is a nice location with great menu items and average service. Kid-friendliness: Ferris target audience is certainly not children. Families would have a more enjoyable meal at another locale. Frankly, children are contrary to the atmosphere/vibe at Ferris.
I really like this place in the center of Víctoria, good food and service.
Great happy hours. Oysters were delicious and nice cocktails. Definitely my favorite in Victoria
A must try when visiting the island, the food was amazing!
We sat out on the front entrance mini patio. It was beautiful and the service didnt lack at all. Our server was attentive and quick and was so helpful with our questions. They have incredible oysters, the prosecco was amazingly well paired as well. We had a few more appies, ahi tuna crisps, Vietnamese spring rolls and the coconut curry muscles and clams. Everything was incredible and we will be back soon.
I d been waiting a few months to try Ferris Upstairs and it was worth the wait! The oysters were so fresh & delicious!!! We ordered the steak as well - it was delicious (sorry for the halved pic!! Lol). Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu. Honestly too good! Service was also impeccable! Thank u!
Great oysters
Food was delicious and atmosphere very fun. My only note is to not get the scallops unless youre not hungry (its a... smaller dish, lets say). But the service was great and the shellfish dish was amazing too!
Food was pretty good overall. Wonderful oysters (as one would hope). Other food was hit and miss. But it was slow! Standing cramped in a tight stairwell waiting for our reserved table. Huge wait between courses. Overall our quick dinner took over three hours to complete.
Great food, good atmosphere, whats not to like? Remember to make a reservation before you come to ensure you get a table as this is not a very big restaurant. If you are craving some fresh oysters like myself , dont miss out on the happy hour deal. We ordered a dozen oysters, and they were $2 a piece. Fresh, clean, paired perfectly with the lemon, ginger, vinegar and Tabasco. For entre Ive gotten the clam linguine, a cream based clam pasta with pancetta, fresh leeks, topped with parmesan. Great flavor and good portion. Overall an enjoyable experience, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Up there on my list of best meal experiences in my life. Ive been craving oysters for years in my landlocked home, so that was a great start, but one of the best old fashioneds Ive ever had really got the ball rolling. Our table worked through so much - chorizo puffs, fried oysters, squid, scallops, carpaccio, polenta, shellfish, every dish kept bringing distinct flavours and platings and all of them so well seasoned and realized. Our waitress was fantastic, the space delightful. Id personally prefer a space for finer dining to refuse children or more strongly impose behaviour standards on dining parents, but I cant begrudge the restaurant for one bad parent and their half dozen brawling preteen wards. I cant wait to come again, and to try the attached tapas bar.
Hands down one of my favourite restaurants in Victoria. The staff are fun and knowledgeable and the seafood is delicious. Their squid small plate is delicious and I would recommend it to anyone to try.
If you havent had the cauliflower salad you havent lived.

Such a nice little place! Very homey yet elegant. The menu looked amazing with lots of interesting recipes. The venison dish was delicious and the service was great. Definitely recommended!
Thank you for the lovely oysters & drinks!
not bad
Generous portions
Outstanding dinner.
Are meals were amazing and super delicious and the service was good. Definitely will be back.
Seafood chowder soup is rich and filled with flavours of the sea(also pretty salty). First time trying bouillabaisse and it was good too.
We went here a couple of weeks ago. What a disappointment! Overpriced blah blah blah food. Snooty waitress.
