Refined eatery in a celebrated beaux arts building offering choice seafood, cocktails & water views.
Hey, don't judge a restaurant by its reviews. I went there for the first time recently and it was amazing! I almost didn't go because of the reviews, but I'm so glad I did. The food was delicious and the service was great. If you like seafood or steak, this is the best place in town. And the prices are reasonable too. Oh, and a special shoutout to Tahnee for her awesome service. I highly recommend this place!
Had an amazing steak and seafood dinner. The food was amazing and worth the price. Our server Tahnee went above and beyond to make our experience an amazing one… would definitely visit again.
We arrived in Victoria on Thursday last week. My girlfriend and I were starving, and after checking out at the hotel we decided to walk by the harbor and ran into this place. It looked good and decided to come in. We ordered a margherita pizza and some raviolis with lobster and everything was delicious. It was a great choice, and also the venue and ambience were good. We will definitely come back here when we visit Victoria again.
Celebrated birthday on patio overlooking the harbor. Fairly priced. Tasty food. Great atmosphere. No one rushed us and we sat for a long time.
Other than the rather off-putting hostess who greeted us up front, every other server we interacted with during our pre-boarding snack next door to the ferry terminal was wonderful, including the gaggle of them that helped to unlock the second door leading to the patio, as our son's troller was too wide to fit with it being only halfway open. They had to fetch the tallest waitress to reach the top latch to get it open! After that little crisis was averted, we scored a nice table on the patio overlooking the harbor, and ordered the Shrimp and Crab Dip for Two, to share. When it arrived, in all its warm, cheesy, gooey deliciousness, we made quick work of it, loving every delicious bite! I also polished off a nice, well-mixed Old Fashioned to assuage the encroaching sadness about our upcoming departure from Victoria. Our waitress was friendly, boisterous and attentive, juggling a handful of tables, including one that was quite obviously populated with her mom and sister; the family resemblance was incredibly apparent, as was their familial behavior. While on any other day, I would tend to avoid a restaurant mere steps from a point of disembarkation, as they tend to be tourist traps, Steamship does a commendable job of what they do, and are definitely worth a stop to grab a bite and a drink, on the way in to Victoria, as well as on the way out, and any time in-between.
Great first time lunch experience here! Great food, lots of seating, attentive server, and really delicious margaritas! We will definitely be back to enjoy the happy hour specials and try more of their offerings. Quick service during lunch which was appreciated!
I am quite disappointed overall, I thought I would have high-end quality and fresh, homemade food but that was not at all the case unfortunately. the cocktails are not bad, but basic and lacking any fancy in the presentation. We had the coconut shrimp as a starter which were way overcooked and obviously not homemade at all. I think it's a frozen bag like you can buy at the store, so no real flavor or refinement and an excessive price (around $20). Then, the Poke bowl, it contained pieces of not fresh mangoes, they had to be frozen beforehand because they were full of water, which was really not pleasant and the other ingredients lacked flavor and taste. The rice + noodles mixture (overcooked in water) in a Poke bowl is not very good, especially for the price! ($26). The plate with the hamburger was so small! The tuna tataki is not bad, but for the price ($20 for a starter it's not worth it). and finally, the service was poor, we waited forever to receive our starter... and finally the starter and the main course arrived at the same time which was not practical or on the table nor to eat because when we wanted to start the starter, our dish got cold. the very nice view from the patio. I won't come back, enough other better restaurants in town.
The food was good but my seafood soup and crab cakes were a bit on the saltier side than normal. The only problem I had was the waiting time for our food. It took a whole hour for our food to arrive. Otherwise, the rest of the food and view was great on the patio.
I returned multiple times throughout my visit to Vancouver Island. Each time was clean, had an extraordinarily pleasant atmosphere, attentive staff, superb food, and great drinks. When I come back to Victoria, I ll be back to Steamship.
Had one of the finest burgers Ive ever had. The mouse running around our table was off putting, and our server disappeared at the end of our meal forgetting my drink.
Ho hum. Chewy steak. Alfredo sauce was at best boring, no flavour. At least our company was great.
Came in late last night off of a cruise ship. Our server Tahnee was amazing and so welcoming! The food was so good as well! Wish I could go back again!
Lovely place. I was here almost two years ago. I still remember that the pasta was amazing, and the waitress was very personable.
Delicious fish and chips in a lovely setting on the water.
I really enjoyed the food at the Steamship Grill & Bar. I had the Harvest Bowl and it was delicious. Prices were reasonable and portion sizes were generous. I appreciate the variety of meatless choices. The service was very good as well. Vegetarian options: Plenty of clearly marked options.
Signs of a Failing Restaurant We dined here on a Wednesday night, hoping for a fresh seafood dinner, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The cocktails were decent, though a bit pricey. I ordered calamari, chowder, and shrimp linguine. The calamari was unremarkable just the standard frozen variety you d find almost anywhere. The chowder was acceptable, but the shrimp linguine was the real letdown. The shrimp were overcooked, and while the pasta was labeled as linguine, it turned out to be spaghetti instead. While this isnt a huge issue, the pasta had a strange smell, suggesting it might have been on the verge of spoiling. I suspect the kitchen pre-cooks their pasta, portions it out, and then reheats it as needed. The sauce was overly salty and lacked flavor. The most alarming part of the dining experience was the frequent sightings of mice scurrying around the dining room floor. This level of rodent activity indicates a serious infestation issue. Overall, this place feels like a tourist trap struggling to stay afloat.
Love the ambiance of this place. It s like an old diner that has been remodeled into a beautiful restaurant. Our service was absolutely impeccable! I had a lot of questions and our server answered every one easily. I had the lingcod and it was spectacular! The key lime cheesecake was absolutely amazing to die for!
A must have is the mixed seafood platter for 2, WOW lots of food, great service and cooked to perfection, and excellent value for money.
I loved my lunch. My husband ordered chowder and was violently ill immediately within minutes of leaving. He said the chowder tasted good, but he thinks they used a ton of butter in the chowder and thats what made him ill. Almost like food poisoning. We dont really know what it was. The view was spectacular, and the service was good.
Great restaurant, the best one overall for our 5 days between Victoria and Seattle. Great Seafood. Our server Chelsea was very knowledgeable about the menu and the bar as well. Definitely will be back
Strange. I didnt give this restaurant a review, but Google said I did. And it was at 1 star. Anyway, I though the place was pretty good, and Id give it 4 out of 5 stars at least. The only thing was the price.
Nice space. Great Caesar salad. Fish and chips was good. Prices high but if warmer a nice patio overlooking the Empress and the inner Harbour
Very slow service. There was a large party at one table, but the other tables were empty except for us. Food was good, but not exceptional.
Stopped in for afternoon cocktails. Nothing to complain about on this visit
Food was good, view was good, service was ok.
Food was delicious, service was okay but they dropped the ball a couple of times. The setup though isn t the best, starting with restrooms being on a 3rd floor open to the general public and poorly kept.
Service was great, seafood mixed grill was delicious, had to fight my wife for my share of the drunken donuts dessert. Marg pizza was adequate but not their strong suit.
Crab and shrimp starter to share was good. Steak ok but mash dry and tasteless. Red wine starts at $40.
The grilled shrimp on the Caesar salad was the best we ever had. The fish & chips were delicious!!!! Best ever The service was fast. Friendly servers. Atmosphere very relaxing. Food : 5/5
Waitress gave us water decanter at table We filled out glasses. She returned took the decanter away. 5 minutes later returned with it full. 5 minutes later brought our drinks. Took decanter which was still full. Went to a different table filled their waters. Place the decanter at the bar. Then 10 minutes later dropped off the 3/4 empty decanter at our table. Um is this proper practise?
Very nice place. Good food and good service. Great location.
The food was delicious and the drinks were fancy. The server was nice and kept on checking in on us.
2 white couple came in after us and was served.
An unfortunate day to go to a good restaurant. They ran out of half their menu proteins and couldnt be bothered to quickly run out and buy more, even with 5 hours of dinner service still to come. What they had left was good, but when you run out of all beef products and some in your group are seafood intolerant it leaves them few decent options. I am honestly not sure I will return, and I used to very much enjoy going there
Ordered Ultimate Seafood Platter. Was later informed that Alaskan Snow Crab in Platter was not available and will just be replaced with lobster. No problem. We also ordered for a dessert with candle as a companion was celebrating a birthday. No dessert with candle came. Bill came with additional charge on lobster which we were not informed beforehand. No word on our end as we don t want to spoil one evening of our vacation. Paid, left and won t come back. If you want to enjoy your Victoria vacation, stay away from this restaurant.
The loneliness of traveling alone is comforted by the wonderful night view and food here. The food came out too late due to a mistake, but their apology and service resolved my mood.
The view was stunning on the patio during sunset time. Food was okay. However 2 major issues made the experience really disappointing. 1. We waited the whole hour for our food to come. We have 2 kids in the group and even the kids pasta took 45mins to serve, which was rare. 2. Even worth was the billing process. We had a group of 8 people, and an 18% gratuity was charged without telling us. When we were paying the bill, the server did not mention the 18% gratuity was already charged and did not give us the time to review the itemized bill, but rather bring the machine for payment waiting us putting the tips in as a usual practice and only left us the receipt from the payment without any order details. One of the other friend in the group reminded us to check if the gratuity was auto charged, so we went back to check and only then we noticed they already charged 18% without telling us. The store manager then agreed to refund the tips back to us. However, this is the first time I ever experienced when an auto charged gratuity was added without notifying the customers and hoping us not noticing this and pay the tips again . This is really dishonesty and stealing from customers.
We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. First, we waited for over an hour before all our dishes were finally brought out. While waiting, we asked for a blanket since it was chilly, and the server promised to bring one, but it never came. The worst part, however, came when we were paying the bill. Since we were a party of eight, an 18% gratuity was automatically added, But the server didn t inform us about this, and they didn t provide the bill for us to see. It felt like they were trying to scam us into leaving an additional tip on top of the automatic charge. After we paid, we immediately noticed the issue and confronted the server, who finally admitted that the gratuity had already been added. This was an incredibly frustrating experience and felt dishonest. We won t be returning and wouldn t recommend this place to others.
We had happy hour snacks. Oysters, tuna, wine. We sat outside by the water. Beautiful seeing. Friendly wait-staff, good food. Dietary restrictions: Very easy for gluten free.
Everything we tried was incredible We had the fish and chips, the salmon bowl friends had the pizza and poke bowl. The drinks were so unique and refreshing. I can t say enough good things about this place!
We sat on the patio for drinks and an appetizer. All good except the windows around the patio were filthy. Haven t been cleaned in some time. There is construction around do I expect some dust but the inside of the window was as dirty as the outside. Easy to fix and I hope they do.
The food was better than expected but service was slow and theres a temporary tent structure blocking the view from the patio right now. Better to try again after the construction is done. I had the Bang Bang Chicken Bowl and it was very fresh and well portioned.
Great food and service. The fish burger amazing
had dinner here, was very nice, cant seem to remember what i had :)
The fish and chips are THE BEST. If you hate tartar sauce, I do too. But their tartar sauce is full of dill, creamy yogurt flavor lemon. Unbelievable. I ate it with the fish and it was outstanding. Sooo good
Server guy with beard was good at first then turned arrogant and snarky. Once I wanted my gift card back that he tried to take for himself.
If youve read my post about the Parliament Building youll see that I sought another lunch option while touring Victoria. Considering the outrageous Canadian taxes I was happy to support a small business. The Steamship Grill & Bar is positioned in the center of attractions. Making it even more appealing is their exclusive waterfront location. Although we attempted to enjoy the waterfront deck, the moorage construction noise overcame us. After relocating in the dining area adjacent the bar we ordered from the impressive menu. I ordered the chowder and Cesar salad with a side of sourdough bread, and ginger beer. My husband ordered the halibut fish and chips and a root beer. My salad and chowder was good. Unfortunately, my husbands lunch was disappointing. The fish was bland with poor texture, and tepid temperature. The root beer was the worst hed ever had. Id give this restaurant another chance. However, Id be more skeptical when ordering from the menu. I tried to share a few photos but this business doesnt seem to offer posting images.
Salmon burger was good. The Amber Ale Crab Melt was poor. Soggy tasteless.
Horrible service We were waiting for 25 minutes when server finally came and when we asked to change the table she left and disappeared. Horrible. Do not recommend. Service
Such a a great experience. Nice view of the harbour. Great food, attentive service. Highly recommended Food : 5/5
Our lunch was fantastic. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We loved it so much that were going back tonight for supper.
One of the best places in town to sip Prosecco and enjoy world class view
Beautiful restaurant on the harbour front with patio. We chose to be seated inside on a cool June evening. Service was excellent. Our server showed genuine interest and made our meal memorable!
Oysters were huge and very tasty. Sangria had lovely blue berries, strawberries, raspberries, peach chunks. Arugula salad with beets, feta cheese, and chopped nuts was tasty! Very enjoyable to watch the bridge go up and float planes land on the Victoria inner harbour.
Casandra gave us the best service. Thank you very much.
For a touristy spot this was pretty good and the service was outstanding. We had limited time for lunch and they managed to get us in and out quickly. We sat overlooking g the water and the promenade which was nice. I don t think you can go wrong here.
fantastic location, friendly service, food is mediocre which is ridiculous for the premium price you pay here
Excellent choice for dinner tonight. Served by Olivia who couldnt be more helpful. Choice of food and drink excellent, staff all helpful. Costings fair for what we had. Would recommend to all.
Service was terrible. Appetizers took 35 minutes at 3pm on a week day. The server never came back to the table after ordering our food. Every oyster had broken shells in it. Patio was nice. Lots of wonderful restaurants in Victoria, I would not recommend this one mostly due to service.
It is clear that management provides little to no training to their servers our service was pathetic! The food was a 1 out of 10 certainly not worth the $450 (4 people) meal cost! I had assumed that a restaurant in that location would have been professionaly managed I was wrong! That beautiful location deserves an owner who knows how to run a restaurant.
Came here with a large group of friends and family on July 14, 2024 for dinner and was greeted by a hostess who couldnt of been more rude. She was a slightly pudgy young Caucasian girl with short brown hair. I asked for a table for our party of 8 and she stared blankly in our direction and said ok with no expression on her face at all. She then looked down while shuffling through some papers and making no other verbal communication such as thank you for joining us this evening perhaps, or sure one moment while I see if thats available . She acted annoyed that we were there to the point the other members of my party noticed. She then asked if we needed any kids menus for the younger members of our group with no expression on her face and acting if she was in some competition not to smile or be pleasant. It was the most passively aggressive rude behavior that Ive ever received while dining out and would of fired her on the spot if I was the owner watching this interaction as a fly on the wall. Once we were seated the waitress was nice. Food was very good but the steak came out ice cold
Ordered Fish and chips for Kids and adult, for kids was ok got one piece, but for adult also got one piece, I was expecting two pieces bcz in picture in google it has two pieces, other food was okay, service was not great, I was ready give order but no one was there to take order, Hostess said she is not server to take order, locations is nice.
My wife and I had a very enjoyable evening at Steamship Bar and Grill. From the greeting when we arrived, the service, food and staff we were treated extremely well. Dietary restrictions: I was asked if we had any food allergies and the server noted that on are order.
Steamship grill May 22, 2024. Interesting experience we just had at this place. First let me say English is not my first language, reading through the menus I selected a steak that the description included crab.. at my great surprise I didn t see any on my plate. Expressing my dismay to Chelsey my server she started to explain that my selection did not include crab legs but some crab meat in the sauce, my mistake no doubt. I had misunderstood the menu description. Our interaction attracted a little attention from other servers. An interjection from a person called Olivia was of the most inappropriate tone, stating that it does not include crab.. well that what it says while asking to see a menu. Olivia added in a reproaching voice NO ONE ELSE has ever At this point it didn t matter what she would add to her statement, Olivia had decided that I alone bare the responsibility of the situation. I gave the menu back and was going to eat my meal while disappointed. My body language probably revealed to Chelsy that it was not the best resolution to leave it at that.. Chelsy offered to add crab legs to my order.. Great I said her quick thinking made my meal a feast versus a plain meal. It was never about cost and or getting something for free. Olivia should mind her own business and leave good servers do their job. I was happy to spend over $200 and leave satisfied. Thank you Chelsy.
Service was really slow. Food was great! Kid-friendliness: They had crayons and pictures for kids to color. Food : 5/5 |
I dont understand the lower rating. Service was friendly and prompt. Seating was comfortable and conversation was easy. Our food was well prepared and the portions quite reasonable as were the prices. Their fries were outstanding!
Best Bellini in town
Great service and delicious food. Lobster Raviolli was beautiful as was the Sirloin Northwest. Food
Great views. Staff wasnt too sure what was happening. May have been mid day shift change. Decent food, but would stick with the dinner and not lunch time. Order the seafood individuality, dont do the tower.
We ordered take out from here. The Calamari was 20$ and came in the smallest portion Ive ever seen. So my friend gave her coleslaw, which was very soupy and bland. Pictures below. I am visiting from out of town, so have never heard of this place. But will remember it enough to not eat here again.
The toilets are on the 3rd floor, but firstly walked to the 4th floor, then a paper on the wall saying the toilets are on the 3rd floor, but no signs saying on the 3rd floor as you walk past in the first place. The butter for the seafood is actually not real butter, its imitation butter oil. Drinks are nice.
Absolutely great food.
The views on the water dining area top the food and service. The pizza was dry and needed some help to gain some flavor.
Really delicious and reasonably priced food. I particularly LOVE the Westcoast Salmon Bowl. It is healthy and delicious. We are locals and last went on Fathers Day. It was very busy and service was slow on that day but at least the server came and apologized without us pointing (it was full and they were short staffed). Other than that, staff were very friendly despite being overwhelmed. Id highly recommend this restaurant.
Great location right on the waterfront. Very good service from well informed staff. Great food would definitely recommend. We booked ahead which was a good thing even for a Sunday evening. Free parking 2 mins walk away.
Nice atmosphere, food just ok, friendly service. Not a bad experience, but would search out other establishments next time in the area.
Recommend reservation in advance, otherwise youll wait 30 minutes or more.
Only available tables at the bar or outside so got seated outside but no one came to serve us so booked an Open Table reservation online inside the restaurant but they refused to honour the reservation without explanation so went across the street to Fathom who seated us immediately without a reservation and with our choice of seating! Also noticed that we were not the only mixed race couple seated outside!
Best patio in town and one of the best happy hours in town UNTIL they added a DJ. Now its too loud to talk or visit so we will have to find somewhere new. Super disappointing. The only people who seemed to enjoy it are the young employees.
Great location. Service a bit slow but the views inside and from the patio make it easy to wait. I had the Sunny Disposition cocktail which was incredibly tasty!
Definitely worth visiting. Delicious. Food
The tuna tataki and ponzu sauce was really delicious. I enjoyed the crunchiness of the wonton chips and softness of the tuna. The jalapeño on top combined everything nicely. The oysters were nice and fresh. It didn t have such a sea flavour. We did get smaller sized oysters. The Fat Tug mussels and clam was really good, wish that it was served in a more of a bowl than straight from a deep pot which made using the sauce to dip a little hard without eating all the mussels and clams. The fries that came with it were great. The baguette was flavourless. The pepperoni pizza was ok at best. The dough is very bland. The pizza was overall a bit too bland. Having a garlic dip of sort might make this dish more enjoyable. I wouldn t recommend to come here for the pepperoni pizza. The servers were nice however the wait was very long. We felt that we were forgotten; long period in between of checking in, refilling water, etc.
Had an absolute fantastic pre Valentines dinner! This will be an annual Valentines dinner for sure!!!! Margaritas were so yummy...regular and fruit one! Waitress was awesome as well. Food : 5/5 |
Very big plate! bigger than we expected. We couldn t finish the food although the food was very tasty, especially sea food: very fresh with good cooking skills. Service is fantastic- we were given a free dish: there was a misunderstanding when we were ordering. They are very professional and nice people. A decent restaurant! Kid-friendliness: Provides kids meals and drawing.
Much improved over last year. Chowder a bit watery. Service was great
Too expensive for the food quality and portion size. Atmosphere seems a bit off.
Nice place right near the water
We came in for a quick bite, she got the lobster ravioli and I ordered half a crab. The snow crab was very delicious! Lobster ravioli was yum yum. Service was a little slow, as there was only one server serving the entire side of the restaurant. Ambience was pretty darn cool, much like it was a boat at one time, which I think it was. Id like to come back and try more of their food!
Called to make a reservation. Was told that they were booked solid and would not be able to accommodate us that night. Offered to book us in for another night however, it was our only night in town. Went online and was able to book a reservation immediately. Arrived at the restaurant to find it only half full and plenty of seats available. A couple in front of us did not have a reservation and was seated right away. Very odd. Anyway, the service was good. The food was hit-and-miss. My wifes shrimp linguine was very flavorful and she enjoyed it. My Fettuccine with chicken was very bland and lacked seasoning. Very middle or the road experience.
Folks behind me were taken in to be seated despite me standing at the door for 5 minutes. Your front door service staff could use some additional training. Did not stay, wont return. Lots of other great dining options in Victoria!
THIS PLACE IS TOP TIER! I loved our waitress she was so kind and enthusiastic but also, not so in your space. You get a beautiful view and the food is delicious, me and my boyfriend just spent our 3 year anniversary here and it was easily the best choice I cant remember what it was called but it came with two steaks, snow crab, salmon, ahi tuna, mash potatoes, veggies etc. It wasnt too pricey for what we got, other places would charge an arm and a leg for a leaf lol... This place was perfection, thank you thank you so much, we will be back when were on the the island
Went there twice, both times we had unacceptable service. The most recent time we went we waited hours for our food until they brought 2 meals and we waited hours again for the other 2 meals. We decided to tell our rude waitress to cancel the 2 other meals and just give us the bill because we re sick of waiting and we asked her for the manager but she said that the manager isn t here, she also lied about the managers name. We go to restaurants to have an enjoyable dinner and experience, steamship is far from that. Never going again
Yummy food, nice atmosphere, helpful wait staff. Lean. Close to everything downtown.
Fresh ingredients with local characteristics
Burger was amazing!
Booked reservation, got there, waited 10min at table no one came to take order or drink order. They didnt even acknowledge us when we walked right by them. Brutal service!
A friend came from Alberta and wanted Seafood . Had the Ultimate dinner for 2. It was amazing Service was wonderful the wait staff accomodate us. It a 10 out of 10 Wheelchair accessibility: Yes it is
Great seafood at this restaurant, we had the mussels, calamari and oysters. It was a great experience
theres a ghost
This was the absolute worst dining experience I have ever had in Victoria. We went for dine around, and ordered the shrimp gyoza, the sirloin steak (medium rare) and the crème brulee. We waited about half an hour to even get our appetizer, which was decent but nothing amazing, but by far the high point of the meal. A half hour later our steaks came out, cooked beyond blue rare. Once we could flag down a server we sent them back, requesting again a medium rare steak. The server assured us new steaks would be prepared, but my partner received the same steak as before (he recognized the cut he had made in the meat when it first came out). When the new steaks came out, 10 minutes later, my steak was still undercooked (beyond rare), and my partner s steak was still extremely undercooked and blue rare. We choked down some of the meal and were approached by the server, who let us know that they were out of the crème brûlée, which we had ordered over an hour earlier. The slow service and extreme incompetence of the cooks had resulted in our meal getting even worse. We waited another half hour for the replacement desserts to come out. The mini donuts were alright but the chocolate cake was terrible. One positive note to the meal was our server - she topped up our drinks and took the cost of the food off the meal. She was apologetic about the experience and knew the restaurant had provided a shockingly bad experience. That being said, don t waste your money, or your time coming here.
We went here for the dine around and stay in town menu. The food was delicious, our server was wonderful and the atmosphere was lovely. One grip is that the bathrooms are so far away from the dining area. I wasnt expecting to go out the door and up several flights of stairs to use the washroom. We also went early around lunch time. The kitchen staff seemed upset with each other and I witnessed a member of staff complaining about work in the dining area. Not the worst thing just brought the vibe down quite a bit. I would definitely try this place again since the food and service were great. Maybe just an off day for the kitchen staff.
Our group of 6 women friends really enjoyed our dine around 3 course dinner on Thursday evening. . The choices were all excellent so we tried different dishes in each category . Our feedback was unanimous - the food was delicious and presented beautifully . We all want to come again. Thank you the chef(s) and to our server / bar manager and helpers for their skills and service .
Standard dining experience in a convenient location! But really Mediocre all around. My appetizer ( Winter Greens and Wild Baby Arugula ) had literally half of a date, two specs of goat cheese, maybe just maybe one slab of bacon, zero arugula, and 10 pounds of dressing. Flame Grilled Mongolian Lamb Sirloin was bland and a wasted opportunity. I should have known when it was advertised with salsa. Our medium-rare requested steak came jarringly rare. Dessert, a vanilla crème brûlée, was ok. Nothing special, and unfortunately the custard tasted cheap. Worst part? Being charged $50 for a $15.99 retail bottle of white wine. Alarming up-charge and almost insulting. Rarely do I have this many negative fronts in a review, but unfortunately every realm of this dining experience fell short. Service workers were nice, but paid minimal attention to our table. Overall, really disappointed. At this price point, you can do so much better in downtown Victoria in all dimensions: quality, quantity, taste, variety. Don t waste your money here sorry not sorry after a $70 bill. Vegetarian options: Very few. Kid-friendliness: Not a child-accommodating vibe.
Definitely an iconic downtown restaurant. Very convenient location right across from parliament and next to the inner harbour. The atmosphere is very pleasant and bright, but it can be noisy on a busy night. The food was good, a nice spot to get seafood if youre craving it.
Had a great dinner here on the weekend. Had the dine around option and it was delicious! Our server, Olivia, was fantastic too! Very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!
They always accomodate my dietary restrictions which is my #1 priority, and wvwrything else is great too.
The food was good, a bit pricey for what you get but I was ok with it. Our server was fantastic . Very happy, polite, attentive, and professional. Cons: The age of this place really shows, seating is uncomfortable, it smelled like burnt food, and the setup is awkward. I would still recommend this place. Hopefully they invest in the seating, amenities and aesthetics. Again, the service was amazing.
Everything is very rich
The steak need to be hit with a hammer the ceasar was dry the beer i got took awhile to get then asked for anther one didnt get it when l got the bill was charged for to the service sucked
Im not normally a sea food eater but the king crab was amazing. Steak was cooked perfectly.
A little pricey.
Worst experience in Victoria. Upon entering, i could see tables open but i was seated at the bar. Which is very hard to get seated on, because the chairs are so squished together. I still wanted to give the place a chance as i heard it had great food. Had a loud group right behind my back, and their laughing - practically barking - was making me jump from my chair. I immediately asked for my dinner to go instead, I didn t want to endure the next hour when i wanted to just enjoy a nice dinner. The bartender got my bill and I gave her half a tip as I did still get some water. She said my dinner would be ready in a takeout box and I should be good to go. Another waiter brought the appetizer out - which was part of the turkey dinner i got. It was still in a bowl, and I told him I had asked for it as take out instead. So then he brought it in a box, and now it was waiting on the table growing cold as the turkey was getting ready. Next he brought the turkey but I noticed the dessert included with the set was left out. I looked around but the bartender was gone, and I asked another waiter for the pumpkin pie. I asked for a paper bag twice, as they kept forgetting - and this time another waitress said they don t have paper bags anymore. In a tone that conveyed, oh well too bad this is all we ve got. So I brought the three boxes of turkey and bisque and pie back to my hotel through the blasting wind and now of course everything is cold and the turkey is super dry - they forgot the jam sauce as well. If I wanted cold turkey dinner takeout i could have got it at a supermarket for half the price of what i paid. all i wanted was a nice experience, maybe a cozy turkey dinner by the water at a proper table on Christmas. I don t know if the staff I interacted with were just very junior, or the restaurant was too busy to take care of one customer at the bar, or if the setup just wasn t working for the night - but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I do really wish I can just return this food back to them.
Our waitress was amazing and the atmosphere was awesome.
Food was great! Customer service was even better. We would eat here again when we come back.
We went to this restaurant because it was advertised as somewhere with a great view. There is no view. You cant see anything from inside the restaurant. So that was disappointment number one. This establishment seems more on the higher end of things, until our server showed up with her chest hanging out the top of her low cut crop top and about 5 inches of her stomach hanging out the bottom, complete with a cardigan she kept off the shoulder until she just took it off completely. The service was ok, except that she delivered all our drinks in hand instead of with a tray. At the end of the meal I quietly asked her to put someone elses bill on mine as it was their anniversary and I didnt want them to pay for anything, knowing theyd fight me on it. She then asked that same couple how they want the bill split and proceeded to only give me their drinks, so they had to pay for their meals. We paid cash, and only received partial change back before we could leave a tip. I asked if maybe I did the math wrong, but she confirmed that she did short change me because theres an 18% auto gratuity that she forgot to tell us about at the beginning of the meal. So she just took our money without our consent. I dont understand how thats legal, but I didnt want to make a scene during the anniversary celebration. Absolutely infuriated. I wont be going back there.
Came as a party of two and three on both Xmas Eve and Xmas evening. Staff was very accommodating as we didn t have a reservation and limited choice of restaurants were open at Xmas. Server behind the bar was very kind, attentive and interested in her guests. Meals both nights were finely prepared and served; the specials on Xmas day were particularly tasty and plentiful. Great fun and festive atmosphere. Couldn t have selected a better place for a fine meal and most attentive service. Thanks!
Stopped here for beer today which was fresh and delicious. The first two pictures are of their 20 oz glasses that are 9.95$. The last picture is a 14 oz glass at another establishment within walking distance. Draw your own conclusions
Christmas dinner was disappointing with small portions of rather tough turkey and a very mass-produced feel. One person at our table selected steak and was unable to eat it as it also was very tough. Our waiter was good, if a little scarce given the size of our group. As expected prices were very high as it was Christmas Day. I expected that, but overall very poor value.
A rainy Sunday morning, few people were there. Service was pretty good and food was good too.
Excellent food as always - always a must go when we visit Victoria. The service was lacking though. We both needed water refills and it was confusing on who our waiter was.
Good nice place to grab some lunch and watch folks walking by the water and small boats.
Great food with an amazing view
As we strolled through the city, we came across a lovely diner where we decided to take a break and indulge in a delectable seafood platter and a refreshing beer. The food prices were reasonable, and the view of the sea from the restaurant was breathtaking.
Not recommended! Sitting for half an hour no body shows up! They re working hard to do nothing!
The customer service was awful! We sat there for more than 30 min and nobody came to our table! Just left! They worked so slow. So disappointed.
Immediately upon entering this establishment, the host gave a clear division in treatment between the people ahead of us and our party. He gave us a judgemental once over before reluctantly seating us on the patio. Our waiter was lackadaisical. No interpersonal skills. Was cold and rude introducing himself, then 2 minutes later was giving his name and a jovial greeting to the table sat after us. Everyone in our group observed the division in treatment. We initially ordered the seafood platter for 4, only to be told there were items unavailable to prepare it and that the kitchen was under stringent rules not to send out certain dishes if items werent available. We were further told that substitutions were not an option.Fine. But a minute later, our server was telling another table that the kitchen was very flexible about providing alternatives and adjustments to any dishes they wanted. When our food arrived, 4 wasps appeared and were incessantly flying around our table. Not the staffs fault, but the subsequent experience sure was. My partner went to ask the host if we could move inside as my friend and he both have a heightened sensitivity to wasp stings and, frankly, none of us wanted to risk being stung. The restaurant was not busy, but the host responded with I GUESS we can look into seeing what we can do and maybe move you After waiting for a prolonged time, we were finally allowed to move inside. Our server then disappeared completely for 40 minutes. No check-ins whatsoever. My friend attempted to wave down a waitress and was disregarded entirely. She finally resorted to asking the bartender to send a server to us so we could pay our bill and was treated like a massive inconvenience. We waited another 20 minutes for our original server to attend to us. He was mostly silent and avoided any interaction. By this point we were so disgusted with the blatant division in treatment and rudeness from the staff that we reciprocated the lack of engagement. Upon leaving the establishment, we asked to speak with a manager and were informed that no manager was on the floor. Instead we were sent a woman who gave us no name, no official title and who proceeded to socialize with her friends at the door while blatantly ignoring us. When she finally did acknowledge us, my friend listed our collective concerns and was met with condescension and patronizing conduct. Im sorry you feel that way Theres nothing we can do, but you can contact our General Manager. Allegedly, she was the person in charge in the managers absence. Find a better stand-in. My friend is from out of town, and bringing her to this establishment for a night out was embarrassing. The staff were rude, ill-trained, and judgmental. Im disgusted.
I have rarely, if ever, recieved such poor service, judgement and clear disregard in my experiences in any restaurant before. When we first arrived, my two companions and I were immediately glanced over as if we were unwelcome in the restaurant. Reluctantly, we were seated, and our server, Charles didnt bother to introduce himself, simply dropped off our waters and took our drink order. We overheard the way he addressed the table beside us, where he was polite and engaged. It was a noticable difference in the treatment between the other guests and ourselves. We asked to share the seafood tower for four, and were told they were missing ingredients and were under orders not to make it with any substitutions. Our server proceeded to tell the next table that the kitchen is very flexible and would be happy to accomodate their requests. We were swarmed by wasps, which of course we dont blame anyone for, but two of us have heightened sensitivities to wasps and bees and simply didnt feel like being stung. My friend asked her partner to go check about moving inside, and he was brushed off by the same rude host who mumbled I guess we can look into trying to move you - even though the inside dining area was nearly empty. We proceeded to be ignored for nearly 40 minutes and I waved down a waitress to ask for our bills and was again, rudely dismissed. I finally got up to ask the bartender and was treated like a massive inconvenience to her day. Each and every staff member (aside from the girl who actually seated us) treated us as if we were unwelcome, inconvenient and a burden. After paying our bills, I left with a bitter taste in my mouth, feeling disrespected and frustrated. I returned into the establishment looking to speak with a manager on duty, and was told they would be with me shortly - with much attitude from the same host. The young girl who came to address our needs first ignored us and chose to chat with some acquaintences in the lineup before finally muttering sooo who asked to speak to the manager. She did not introduce herself, and told me there actually was no manager on site but that she was the current supervisor, essentially the person in charge for the evening. Her condescending voice and attitude made it clear she did not give an iota of thought to my complaint. She smiled at me and spoke to me as if placating a small, incompotent child. When I openly addressed her ignoring us to speak to her companions, she made a poor excuse about our description from the host. The judgemental looks given to us throughout the interactions with the host made it clear he knew who we were, and her attitude was flippant and ignorant. We will be reaching out to the ACTUAL manager as well. The food was good, but with such an absolute gongshow of a staff, this restaurant is not worth the time, money or headache.
Worst service I have received on the island, went for a nice dinner with my wife and friend who flew in to visit, forgot about us for 40 minutes after moving us inside because of a wasp infestation on the far end of the deck, refused to let us order the biggest item on the menu due to 1 of the items on the platter being out of season, yet the next family beside us were told oh dont worry the kitchen is very flexible with adding or changing anything on the menu, had to wave staff over 3 times and goto the bar after not being given any extra service after are food arrived for roughly 40 minutes
Food was great, atmosphere was great, service was friendly but a bit slow.
Food was good, service was terrible. Waited 15 min to be greeted by server, and then another server noticed and took our order. Food delivered and waited 5 min for cutlery. Asked for wine before main was delivered and we were 75% done with the meal before bottler arrived. I had to get up and get our own salt and pepper. Never saw server again. Manager made it right (thank you), but seemed to also confirm multiple complaints about server prior with nothing done. Atmosphere was pretty, but the lack of service was frustrating.
The food and atmosphere were quite nice. No complaints in that department. However, one of the servers happened to have a swast!ka tattoo poorly hidden close to their sleeve. This was particularly offensive as a Jewish person and a member of the Chinese Jewish Association of Vancouver. I asked for four plates and was only brought two. It was likely due to my nose and hair being giveaways. Being Chinese probably also didn t help. Crab dip slapped tho.
Olivia provided amazing service! Food and beverage were delicious and our group left happy and satisfied.
Great dining experience! The view of the harbor was perfect setting. Olivia was amazing with our large party and made for a wonderful experience.
Olivia was our server and she handled all 28 of us like a pro! Food was great a little slow but there were 28 of us!
We went here for a friends bday dinner, gorgeous view on the patio. It took 40 mins to get drinks, ny martini had 3 bruised and falling apart olives. For appies we had the tuna with was really good, the ceab dip was disgusting, it tasted like a pureed highliner fish cake with mushy texture. The mains were underwhelming on flavor. The server was nice, but he seemed clueless Blouy everything. Cant believe thos placenis a tourist place, I will never return.
Great food. Our first waitress was great, then her shift was over, and the waiter that took over was horrible. We would have stayed and ordered more drinks, but he pretty much ignored us. Too bad
Terrible service - took forever to get our order taken, the server brought the wrong order wrong more than once, he never came to refill water or checkin on the food. He seemed lost Drinks - our Caesars were served warm? My wife ordered a red wine, she was brought Sangria. Awful food - the worst pub food I have ever been served - the burger looked like a boiled meatball, covered in an inedible sauce, the chowder was thin and full of potatoes, no seafood to be found and the coconut shrimp were exactly what you get from Costco and we are certain they were microwaved. I m only writing this in hope that management reads and acts on feedback of disappointed customers.
Bisque was so peppery I choked on the first sip. It took 10 minutes after we were seated for a waiter to appear, even tho the room was empty. Very little food for the price
Kitchen not open every day. We canceled our reservations at the lodge. Too bad, nice to look out at the bay.
Our anniversary dinner. Steak and lobster for me, lobster ravioli for her. We started with the crab dip. Cold food for both of us. My lobster was dry and came without butter. My wifes ravioli was 5 pieces of flat dough. We spent some time looking for the lobster filling, but gave up. We never had water refilled despite asking politely. Our food was dropped off and we never spoke to another staff member until asking for the bill. I kept looking at our sad plates knowing that I should not have made the reservation. It was an expensive meal and should have been special. We just wanted to leave. I ruined our anniversary by booking here.
One of the prettiest restaurants downtown. I ve found the food is a bit hit and miss, but overall really good. The staff is very friendly, but like most island restaurant it can be slow. Food
What a wonderful place! Must go for great ambiance and good eats! Our server Charles handled our party of 15 amazingly!
Nice patio seating & friendly staff! The food and drinks were excellent too! The red sangria was not sweet but the mango mint iced tea was! Both excellent choices.
We had a great experience at the restaurant. The food was excellent and so were the drinks. The service was very good. Our server, Olivia, was attentive and very friendly. The price of the food and drinks was very reasonable and the location is just unbeatable. The patio overlooks the bay and it a perfect place to watch the sunset. I have read previous reviews and the negative reviews just dont make sense.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Unfortunately we didn t get an seat with a view. It took our server maybe 15 minutes to take our order. Unfortunately the meal we wanted to order was no longer available, so a second choice was offered. A few minutes later our waiter said that was no longer available either. The food was ok. Not fabulous. There were other disappointments and service was really slow. Wait staff friendly and hard working, but we re frazzled. It just wasn t a great experience.
Group of 9 adults and 2 children. Highchair available (did require cleaning before use). Crayons and little kids menu which is great. We had a reservation. Beautiful view on patio. Heaters available but not out and ready for use (unsure if available for use), would have loved then offered or on as evening continued especially with little ones. Ordered drinks but thereafter no further inquiry aside from if we wanted another immediately after we received our first round before happy hour ended. Water was readily available with carafes on table. No further ask of more drinks. Asked about food orders nearly 45 min after drinks arrived. Food took a long time to arrive (even asked for childs meal early and that took a long time also). Food was good but not the largest portions given pricepoint. 2 people had northwest steak and seemed was to have crab but actually only in the sauce, which was disappointing. Plate pickup was nearly 40 min after meals finished. No ask about dessert, coffee etc. By that time we had been there nearly 3.5 hours (long for a 1 course 1 round meal.. ). Bill was split accordingly but would have been smart to ask in advance and have cheques prepared as there were some mistakes with splitting and seat orders. Not the best first experience but the view was so lovely that it was still nice, and obviously worthwhile when with the right group of people regardless. I personally think the restaurant could work on enhancing food/post meal service and increase portions slightly and perhaps consider optimizing the happy hour food/drink menu (even pricing is not that different). Cant comment on dessert or other aspects of the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Highchairs. Crayons and kids menu. Main floor bathroom.
Great food, well served in great surroundings. Service was fabulous, Nick must be the hardest working server in Victoria. Our new favorite spot in the inner Harbour.
Nice atmosphere but average food. Pizza looked like I made it at home. Linguini had tiny unrecognizable shrimp. Seemed like it was the servers first day. She needed better training.
We had an amazing dinner tonight! The food, the service and the patio views are a top notch. Seafood, chowder and steaks were awesome!
Our server Olivia was awesome helping with questions we had with the menu so we both had wonderful salads for dinner. We are older so just wanted smaller meals. That left space to try the drunken donuts for desert. OMG so darned good. Thank you Olivia for such great service and thank you Steamship Grill & Bar for a delightful lite dinner. Vegetarian options: Several salads to choose from as well as the veggi type of chicken or beef to choose from Wheelchair accessibility: Sidewalks have accessibility and the main floor will be accessible to wheelchairs
Great patio with amazing views and good spot for date night! Food is good, however the service could be a bit more attentive and fast. Hosts are very welcoming and accommodating!
Great patio, enjoyed the Harbour and my mojito.
Nice variety of items on the menu. Great view of the harbor. Enjoyed the poke bowl and the chowder. They did run out of pizza so go early if you want that.
Super friendly staff - Cathy was our server and amazing!! She shared a lot of great spots to visit in Victoria and even showed us a video of mom and baby peacocks :))) def the highlight of my trip
Oysters werent fresh, pizza was surely a frozen pizza. Service was non existent. Food was overpriced for the quality and portions. main meal came out with our appetizers all together and took 40 minutes.
Quick service and tasty food on my way to catch the ferry! Thanks!
Nice place for an informal meal. Cozy atmosphere and nice friendly service. Due to crowds it may be wise to make a reservation.
We had the mixed grill for 2. It took a long time to get our food but it was well worth the wait
Visited yesterday,, terrible service ,, waited 45 mins for my food and food was very cold with half of my order was missing and worst service .. not recommended at all..
On the terrace you have a beautiful view of the small harbor. The food was excellent.
We found this restaurant after getting coffee next door and decided to give it a try. Im glad we did because the food and service were great. We did not have to wait long for our food and it was so delicious! We were worried about being underdressed but the atmosphere was good and we felt comfortable in our street clothes without being dressed up.
Looking for a place to relax and dine after our sightseeing and visiting Parliament Buildings. We are seated outside, nice view and quiet. Got some Appetizer Happy Hour and please don t miss it, especially Tuna Tataki with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc is Perfect and Balanced, We got our Main Dish as Sirloin with Lobster tail (AAA Sirloin) Juicy and tender Cooked as Rare as I like. This meal is Brilliant
It was OK, nothing special
Overall food were overcooked Seafood tower is never available i dont even know why they have it on the menu. They dont have any kinds of steak sauces which is amazing fact. Food : 1/5
We came here to grab a quick bite before our ferry ride out of Victoria. We told the server right away that we were in a time crunch and she accommodated our wishes by being super fast with her service. The food was delicious! We got the rigatoni and the fish tacos. Both were presented well and came out fast. Would recommend!
We were seated at 1:40, given water and order taken.bwe left after being ignored until we decided to walk out at 2:50 after seeing people after us had eaten and left. Tried to get any servers attention. There were only 4 lol. Zero stars!
Great place in an impressive building and if there is enough of you the sea food tower looks amazing.
Great food terrible staff Dietary restrictions: gf Food : 5/5 |
Visited in late June. This was our first meal in Victoria and it was really good. This place is located right on the harbour and has picturesque views of the harbour from the patio. Aside from the great views, the food was really good too. Had the lobster ravioli and the whiskey crab bisque with crab cakes. Cant go wrong with these winners. Also, the mango mint iced tea was so refreshing and perfect for people watching on a lazy afternoon.
Waited almost 1.5 hours for dessert after supper. Yes we were a larger party but that wait time was ridiculous.
Food was quite good. Customer service was excellent.
A simple fish and chips took 1.5 hours to get and to top it off another 1.5 hours to get the bill which was completely wrong.
Great place to eat! The server was really nice and did a great job! I had one of the best meals of my life here!
Steamship gets five stars for its location and harbour views. The seafood was decent, but not amazing. The worst part of our experience was the poor and inattentive service. Despite having reservations, it took about 5 minutes for our party of two to even be acknowledged by a hostess. It then took over an hour for our food to arrive after ordering, with zero apology for the wait. There are enough great restaurants in Victoria that we don t feel the need to return.
Awesome place to visit when on vacation.
I had a Harvest Bowl. It was mediocre and the salmon was awful, dry and overcooked. The chocolate cake we had for dessert was delicious though. Didnt go there again.
Happy hour oysters and calamari! Yum.....
Safe choice for nice food and good service. Really enjoyed my experience and the linguine was a knockout.
Great place to have dinner with an amazing view of the harbour! The chef aakash is the best! Great service of te server Jamie lovely girl!
Good food, nice atmosphere, great drinks, and pleasant and courteous service. I recommend it anytime.
Beautiful Place for a dinner date specially during sunset. Patio closed during winters but a quiet and cozy atmosphere.
Our waitress was excellent Wheelchair accessibility: We had no problem with our power wheelchairs . There was easy access and room to park them. Our waitress was excellent. Food : 4/5 |
Havent been yet, just made the reservation and the hostess is a gem! It is a treasure to hear the smile in a persons voice, and one of the qualities that makes for exceptional customer service. Will update after dining, but the bar has been set high.
