really nice ajumma taking care of the entire shop’s operation. had the beef chow mian and she did made sure my noodles were spicy after requesting for it. Affordable and delicious. Will come back again
Above average taste, reasonably priced..lady mixed up order (ordered shrimp, got chicken)..but overall if I am nearby and want to have a quick bite, I don't mind visiting this place again!
An excellent local business worth your support! We frequently get our lunch here since we work in the square, and the owner is always very sweet. It's always nice to have a hot meal prepared just for you! Thank you Mom!
I have often passed by this takeout restaurant and was curious about the taste of its Korean and Japanese dishes. I was a bit hesitant about trying this spot because of its mixed reviews on Google but I also want to support local. I ordered the bulgogi dish with rice for $14. I did not find it bland like other reviewers have suggested, but I found that the taste could offer more dimensions and I could have easily made this dish at home. I like hard rice, so I found the rice quite soft and perhaps even soggy due to trapped heat in the takeout box? The carrots had flavour.
Mom's kitchen is amazing. She's a one woman show, and makes delicious food for you right then and there while you wait in Market Square. It's better to think of her as a permanent food truck than a restaurant (no indoor space) Her food is delicious, the portions are large, and the prices are very reasonable. Today because I waited in the misty cold she gave me a cup of soup and it was perfect!
Amazing and Authentic food. Mom does it all on her own. My friends and I make this spot a regular go to when we are in town. Great flavours and just the right amount of food. Teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef
I recently ordered takeout from Mom's Kitchen and had the pleasure of trying their chicken dumplings and chicken teriyaki. The takeout process was seamless and "Mom" was very friendly and nice As for the food, the chicken dumplings were absolutely delicious. The filling was flavorful and the wrapper was cooked to perfection - not too soft or too chewy with a little bit of crunch. The chicken teriyaki was also cooked to perfection, with a sweet and savory sauce that complemented the tender chicken perfectly, nice to have it on a rainy day Overall, I had a wonderful experience here. The food was excellent and had the home cooked feel to it. I'd definitely recommend giving this a go, if you're in the area
This was a nice finding inside the shopping alley. A mix of Korean and Japanese cuisine. Not those elaborate menu options but selective items and all for 12$ each was a good option to go for. Served in cardboard boxes with plastic spoins and recyled wooden forks. We ordered fried Dumplings (actually Korean Mandus), Bulgogi, and Chow-mein… my little daughters loved dumplings and chicken and beef pieces in them. For parents, it was a little bland. More flavors needed. Probably they have adapted dishes to Canadian palate? But I know Canadians love spicy food too. Isn’t it? I forgot to take pictures of the food we bought, so I don’t have them in my review. Anyway, it was an okay-okay hot food option on that sunny yet windy-chilly afternoon. So we won’t whine about anything. All good. Ladies taking orders and cooking were nice and gentle people.
Solid food nothing crazy but the lady is so nice and so it s a good spot
Dumplings were great. Highly recommend
I had the fried chicken Benny, best Benny I ve ever had, the waitress s was super friendly
Delicious and affordable
The blugogi is amazinggg and mom is the loveliest human.
The ajumma that works here is really nice. She cooks the same way my own mother would, so in terms of taste, it s nostalgic but not anything to write home about. I d recommend stopping by for a quick bite that won t put a dent in your wallet.
Got the beef japchae
Just like your mom made it for you. Simple, tasty and nourishing.
This place is amazing, definitely worth going out of your way for. The bulgogi was delicious
Nice lady, thanks for helping us feed our daughter :) nice place to get food!
Delicious chicken ramen. Perfect on a snowy winter day. So glad we found this place while we were in town!! Will be back.
Delicious bibimbap - enough for two to have a great lunch. Highly recommended, and will be back to try other dishes.
BEST dumplings ever. Every time I m in Victoria I always hit this place-
I got the chicken dumplings and chicken teriyaki. Both were exellent and didnt make my stomach feel heavy at all
Food here is always so good and reminds me of home. When whenever I m in downtown I m come here for a lunch!
We ordered weekend special. The food is amazing. Quality of food is great. Felt like eating at home. Highly recommend
Delicious food and gently service. Thank you.
Ah! I wish I liked this place more. The lady is so sweet and she works there alone. That said, the bibimbap was pretty bare bones. Not a variety of toppings, no egg, nor was the meat browned. It ended up being even a little on the soggy side when you mixed it all together. I don t know if this is just the Korean food scene in Victoria, but after growing up in LA and living in Seattle, I don t think I would recommend this to other people and I would not come back.
Best Japchae! Like My Mom taste She is Super nice thank you so much Food
Mom is so nice! The food was cooked fresh and all four of us in my family scarfed it back. The beef and shrimp were good choices. My daughter said it was shrimply amazing!
I had the japchae. Very comforting. Good portion size. The lady working there is very sweet. I want to try the udon next!
some of the best food ive had in victoria! ive been slowly trying everything on the menu and there hasnt been a thing i dont love. the titular mom is also incredibly kind!
Maybe the people who give this place 4/5 stars don t know how to cook? Tasteless is an understatement. I tried once and I never will go back. If the price was half of what is on the menu, still I wouldn t eat this food again. Poorly made, more rice than anything else, and rice was dry! So you can imagine, trying to eat pure dry rice half way in this meal. Also I had to wait over 35minutes because you order at the window and she forgets your order. Go elsewhere!
Just hyped. Nothing is good about the food. No flavors at all.
Incredible food and awesome service. Had the dumplings and they were amazing, and the ramen was one of the best ones Ive had.
wonderful spot for Asian food. Amazing quick service and tasty meal
The food is very good and the lady is very kind
A cold chill blows through Victoria, its 11am on a Saturday, and I walk up to Moms Kitchen. I order the shrimp udon and wait, watching the bustle of market square. I ate my soup under cover, watching the raindrops drip from the dips in the canopy. Steam billowing from my bowl. This was very wonderful udon. Would reccomend to anyone who wants to get food, but also brought their dog and cant go inside. This warmed my soul
Ive passed Moms Kitchen several times and wanted to try something new for lunch. I highly suggest this spot for quality, affordable and delicious food! The owner was so friendly and truly gave me the comfort of a mothers kitchen. :)
Hidden gem in Market Square! Loved every bit of the shrimp ramen and dumplings. Reasonably priced and cooked with love. Check this out!
Definitely the best quality-price meal you can find in Victoria downtown. A small one-person managed restaurant that serves delicious Korean food to go for just 12 dollars. We ordered different dishes and we were pleased with all of them. Be aware that food might take 10-15 mins to be ready, so be patient. I will come back for more!
One of the best places in Victoria and lot of happy feeings here after the food was eaten !
Definitely hit the dumpling spot! Proper authentic Korean style dumplings which were so tasty and full of flavour! 10000% recommend moms kitchen!
Great food for decent price! Hidden gem indeed
Shrimp ramen was delicious, perfect amount of flavour and a hint of spice. Less than a 10 minute wait and the veggies were so yummy!
Exactly what I expected. Good portion and wholesome.
Great hole in the wall restaurant. Had the dumplings. Theyre delicious.
This is GEM! This is the best bulgogi rice dish! I love it! Love it! The sauce fits perfectly with the beef and the rice! I cannot get enough! And for 10$ for a big dish, that is a bonus!!!
Little hole in the wall. Great homemade style Korean cuisine. Hot sauce was fantastic. Had the bibimbap and bulgolgi.
Good Food Generous Portion with Gentle Smile
My wife and I ordered the number 1 (veggir) and number 3. Delicious food served by a hard-working woman. Her effort makes the taste. Its a small place compared with other options around, but definitely worth each bite.
As a visitor from out of town, this is probably the best valued meal you can find, so cheap yet so good, and run by a hard working store owner. Will definitely visit again next time we visit Victoria!
I LOVE the food from Mom s Kitchen! Best Korean food I ve had... but I drove down from Nanaimo today for dinner, and it was closed during what Google is showing for regular open hours (showing 5pm close, I showed up at 4)
Quick, delicious, affordable lunch spot! Meat and vegetarian options - the best!
Loved the ramen! So delicious!
I ordered the ramen it was really good, this place gives a wholesome feel.
The owner/chef cares for her customers and providing good healthy food! I especially like the bulgogi and the dumplings.
Great place for a quick bite! Love that the portions were generous for the price and the food was healthy and fresh. Perfect place for a yummy snack or hearty meal.
This place was an awesome find. We wandered around for a while and it smelled so good we stopped. The food was amazing, not heavy or oily, and the owner was so wonderful!
I have never eaten here (not yet) however I left my dog tied up in the rain while I went to grab food in market square and the women from moms kitchen came out and put her umbrella over him! Can t wait to try this place out.
Very good!
Amazing food, so fresh she makes it right there in front of you! She even came over to our table to make sure we were enjoying the food.
I had the chicken curry. It was delicious :)
Less money than noodle box, with a lot more flavour. $10 can feed two people
The portions are really generous and everything is 10$! We shared the chicken teriyaki, delicious :)
I love moms kitchen, as a student having great proportions for only $10 is very helpful. All their food leaves me filled and nourished. Definitely highly recommend.
Amazing upbeat service. Delicious food each time and for $10, it is the only thing a student needs. Always with generous portions. Just come eat here!
I work really close to here, and it is my go to spot for lunch! Fantastic food and wonderful service every single time! The beef chow mein is so wonderful! The portions are a great value!
Such amazing people and delicious food!!
Love Moms Kitchen! My fave is the chow mein which I eat at least once a week! Highly recommend.
I come here often for the beef teriyaki (with brown rice) and its really tasty. Good for students or people on the go looking for a wholesome meal. Fills you up for just $10. Plus, the owners are really sweet and know my order. And If youre lucky, their daughter will be there to hand you a lollipop.
Really delicious food. They advertise fresh local ingredients, and you can taste the truth of that statement in the quality of the food. I ordered the shrimp wrap and my friend ordered the chicken curry. For ten dollars, you really get your moneys worth; they did not skimp on the shrimp, and each of us got a large portion (including a salad for me). The staff were very friendly, and it was a really nice experience in the quiet market square for lunch. Recommended.
I really enjoyed my gluten free, veggie only, no oil, very spicy SOUP!
Never ever open on time. Was opened an hour and a half late the last time I was there. Havent even gotten to try their food because every time I go when theyre open, theyre not.
